My dear friend who just saw Spider-Man 2 for the first time: Bro, why is Peter even trying to go to school to become a scientist? I thought he was a photographer.
Me, who has not considered this, but knows that Peter is going to argue that the staff photographer job at The Bugle should go to him in the next movie: ....... Good question.
On a real note, the college stuff probably made it into the adaptation for these reasons:
It's one more aspect of a normal life for Peter to try (and fail) to manage with being Spider-Man
It gets him an in with Dr. Otto Octavius
Dr. Connors' assessment of Peter's brilliance and laziness is a prime reason for Otto to give him the speech about using his gifts for the good of mankind, which will be a central theme/conflict of the movie as Peter struggles with losing his powers
It shows that Peter does have ambitions and something to offer outside of his being Spider-Man
That last item is also something demonstrated by his photography skills, but I've thought it over and I think that while he's good at it and enjoys it, it's probably a hobby he's monetizing as opposed to an actual life goal. He takes pictures for The Bugle because he needs the money, he mentions getting fired by Dr. Connors in the first movie, so whatever probably-science-related job he had there didn't work out.
The thing is, all the non-freelance jobs Peter has in the Raimi series don't work out, so I'm not sure how the staff photographer thing would have gone for him in the long run.
Then again... a job like that would allow him to be out of the office on assignment pretty frequently and they probably would have given him somewhat flexible hours (given all the time that has to be spent taking pictures outside normal office hours in order to get the scoop) as long as he was getting his 40 in, getting the work done and keeping in communication.. ... So it might actually be the best kind of full-time work available to him. I know very little about STEM careers, however, so anyone can chime in with more information.

hot take: not that it matters, but I truly don’t think lazy people actually exist. even if we DO run with the truly heartless idea that everyone has to be “useful” for the right to live, everyone wants to be “useful”. Everyone wants to do something. Nobody wants to completely waste away doing nothing, that’s just not the nature of living. They just don’t have the drive to go with the options the government has decided are worth having the right to live for. And they shouldn’t have to.

in the new year i know i gotta get around to going through my wardrobe and selling some bits. I have some cute like fairy kei bits, sweet/sweet classic lolita dresses, bear lolita even a coat perfect for sweet or classic lolita. And they're adorable, but like dats not my style and I bought them to experiment but I'm just not a fairy kei pink gal or a sweet lolita so i guess it's time to get them go and be loved and used by someone who gets lots more value than me from them ( •̀ ω •́ )✧

So whats it like having illustration for a job? Or was it graohic design? It was something along those lines right?
i do both actually! to be honest i just call myself a freelancer, since i do whatever people will hire me for. most of my gigs are theatre related, usually stage design + costuming, and then also stage photography/documentation. a lot of my graphic design and illustration work is also usually theatre related as well; i do logo designs for small theatre companies and a lot of posters/graphics + tour marketing campaigns. this book contract i just finished is the biggest illustration job i've done just solely by itself (cover + 13 full page interiors), whereas normally the illustration/drawing work i do is a part of another job; like hand-drawing a logo or doing big scenic painting. the biggest physical 'illustration job' i did was for the set of my thesis show in undergrad, where i painted custom portraits of queen victoria that got blown up to 20ft tall (don't ask), a ted harrison style 30ft mountain range backdrop, and a custom hand drawn+painted 30ft floral mandala for the turntable in the stage. yes that was all for the same show and yes it took me almost a year to design everything.
to get back to your question though, it's like being any other kind of freelance worker, i suppose. i had a lot of fun with this book contract and i'd love to do more, but it just depends on what gigs find me first.

Any faceclaims for Milo and/or Sam? Literally lost my mind at your Gavin one he’s so beautiful 😩
So I generally struggle with visualizing people without descriptions, and I've been trawling around pinterest hoping something jumps out and bites me. Got very lucky with that happening for Gavin, but I'm still on the fence about and fine-tuning Milo and Sam.
When I drew Milo I kind of went off others' ideas of Matt LeBlanc, but I'm still debating. I've been wondering if Joseph Gordon-Levitt would work, but I haven't tried yet and he also seems a smidge off.
Sam is tricky because I've kind of gravitated toward Josh Hartnett, but that wasn't originally what I wanted in my head. However, I haven't been able to spot anyone closer to my original idea, so I'm trying to figure out how to draw him with Hartnett as kind of a springboard?
I've been trying to sketch things out in hopes that something will stick, because I have a horrible time trying to picture people while listening to something if I haven't been able to see it physically in front of me.

the fact that you realise you're in pain is the incentive you are looking for to get help. listen, the pain is comfortable yes, it's what we're used to, but you need to step out of it. it's never too late to start taking care of yourself
A lot of what I'm dealing with hurts. I had a cavity that hurt really bad up until recently. (Nerve probably died) and my joints hurt frequently. But the fix for the teeth is gonna hurt worse and I'm terrified about what getting evaluated for EDS is gonna uncover. I've repeatedly injured my wrist and I'm not sure if I'm going to get the full range of mobility back. I'm not sure what they're gonna have to do or what I'll have to look out for.
I liked being a black box where all the random things that wrong with me were just a funny mystery. Funny little humonculus man. Not 'repeatedly failed by the medical system' man. Don't get me wrong, I'm ready to tackle this. But dude I'm terrified.

love when people @ work ask me if I can like take a couple of photos for their website, which they of course, expect me to take+edit for free b/c editing isn't like time consuming at all or w/e, and I'm like yeah my camera's battery broke and I have yet to get/wait for a replacement :) and they just :) oh ? so you only have the one camera ??? like ??? nah buddy those things are so cheap I can very clearly afford having 15 of 'em lying around at home at all times in case a couple of them break :)
