why do all of my favorite characters keep getting impaled both literally and metaphorically by a thousand sword blows representing the eternal weight of hatred and pain they must carry all by themselves why does this keep happening (this is about anthy himemiya and xie lian)

hi! i'm sorry for the dumb question but i wanted to finally start reading manga in japanese (i already have a little list of titles beginner-friendly) buuuut i'm not sure where i actually find it ;; sorry again for the stupid question
Not a dumb question at all! There are a bunch of places to get manga, the most accessible probably being (unfortunately) amazon.jp. You need to have a Japanese address to buy things regardless of where it's being shipped to (or not, in the case of ebooks), but I believe just any address will do. You can also sometimes buy manga directly on the publisher's sites. Cmoa is another good place to check, and they also will often have entire volumes of manga available to read on their site for free (just look for the 無料 section). Bilingualmanga might also be of interest. It's free (and therefore sometimes gets taken down), but is exactly what it sounds like. Their selection isn't huge, but what they do have, they have in both English and Japanese.
If you want to buy physical volumes, CDJapan is my go-to. I'm in the USA, but I'm pretty sure they ship to most parts of the world. Kinokuniya is also a good place to buy manga from, especially if you're lucky enough to have a physical store near you. My main issue with them is that I think they're overpriced, though. Another thing that depends on luck, if you have any Book Off stores near you, go check them out! It's secondhand, so finding what you're looking for is definitely luck based, but I think it's a good experience to browse Japanese language books and manga regardless.
If you're having trouble finding something in particular, or want some... slightly less legal sources, feel free to contact me off anon!

Hot take: I actually don’t really believe it was Madoka Magica that kickstarted the edgy, gritty, dark (and usually seinen) magical girl trend. I feel like it was something that was sadly just bound to happen. Also Madoka honestly isn’t THAT grimdark in comparison and lacks the copious tasteless fanservice that many of those titles have. Madoka is depressing and existential but not violent and gory. Mahou Shoujo Site and Magical Girl of the End honestly did far worse things to the genre. I could be wrong though.

Next time I see Loid “For The Mission” Forger act like Yor and Anya aren’t his real family I will throw hands I swear to God—
This man has the gall to say that like 90% of this new OP isn’t taken straight from his point of view. He really sees Yor and Anya like this and still goes “Yep. Totally for the mission, guys.”
I love Loid, but the next time he says it, I’m going to literally crawl into the show and slap the shit out of him. Get it together, Loid!!

Look, I get that the shounen vs shoujo and “people hate things aimed at girls“ is and has been an issue for like....decades
but I don’t know how to tell you that the answer to “shounen but the characters are all women“ is NOT whatever magical girl show you have in mind

i actually wish, like, i'd really like to write something about why there's so much nazism present not just in FEWL, but yasuko aoike's body of work as a whole, even if a lot of it remains untranslated. explain it somehow
because like for as silly as the woman's creations are (literally gag BL manga with characters based on 1970s musicians), the existence of not just nazism but all of the politics, especially in FEWL, really do say something about like... postwar japan, the presentation of nazism in 60s and 70s, how nazis are portrayed in media as a whole, us imperialism, and probably so many other things
like, aoike didn't just randomly decide that her main character's father would be a nazi tank commander for no reason, this isn't just a "oh it was the 1970s" thing, there's intricate historical and cultural reasons this sort of thing happens, and as easy as chalking it up to that is, it undermines the fact this type of stuff can even happen today

OMG YESSS I LOVE THEMMM!!!
Looking up to you is my favorite Shoujo manga of all time. It made me realize i just wanted a romance where the roles of male lead and female lead where switched and I've eaten up the crumbs of everything like that since. And now I'm obsessed with Yeonwoo's innoconce.
The author decided to grace me with this amazing work of art and i need more people to LOOOOOOOOK!!!
