#I killed osial for a reason

Various SelfAware GenshinAU Ideas
Kind of an Imposter!AU, but instead of someone else taking the role, the true Creator gives you the role because they didn't want it.
Imposter!AU where Teyvat itself wishes to enact vengeance on those who have hurt you and falsely made you out to be a monster. To make those who have made you, the lands most beloved God, suffer suffer in turn. You are the only thing holding back the fury of the world itself.
The Creator is reborn/isekaied into the Genshin world, but there's a smaaaaall hiccup in the system and you wake up as what essentially amounts to a level 0 commoner with no skills at all, beyond what you were already bringing to the table. You have powers, sure! You just... can't quite figure out how to get them to work? You also can't understand anyone? It's a bit of a mess.
Villian/Imposter!AU where the true God is chased all over and eventually taken in by the Abyss Order.
The Creator is reborn/isekaied into the Genshin world but there's a different smaaaaaall hiccup in the system and you... don't have a body? The vessel creation/transfer went haywire and now you don't have a set form. Instead you can only change into other creatures, or people.
For whatever reason, when God wakes up no one recognizes them. Instead of taking on their role as 'The Creator' or whatever, they decide to plant crops instead, a la Harvest Moon style.
Imposter!AU/ Villian!God summons forth chained Gods and imbues them with their power to help teach them about the world, and wreak havoc and vengence. Osial, Beisht, and Azhdaha in a team of four with the Villian!God.
Imposter!AU God who, instead of being outright killed once they've been apprehended, is mutilated beyond recognition for being an imposter and 'wearing the face of god'
The Creator and "God" are two different entities
I really like the idea of taking common SAGAU tropes and concepts and turning them on their head.
Special blood that sprouts flowers, or Ley Line blood. The cost of being an all knowing entity is your eyes. Taking common powers and giving them a cost. 180-ing on what's 'normal', it's funnnn! >:D

As noted yesterday, I compiled a list of Morax's sins. The following are all of his unforgivable sins according to the fandom, the inexcusable blood on his leger, the utterly indefensible actions of Morax that call him to the stand:
1. Participant in the Archon War.
Zhongli participated in the war for the stolen Authorities. No, we don't know if all Archons knew the seats held the Dragon Authorities, we just knew they knew Celestia was choosing 7 gods to rule the land and exiling the others. All that matters is he participated in it, doesn't matter if he didn't know the reason, didn't start it, or was forced! Dragon authorities are up there and that's all that matters!
...wait, we do have one reason.
"I wish not for dominion, yet I cannot let the common folk suffer." [Zhongli's Character trailer].
So it's confirmed he participated to stop innocents around him from unnecessarily suffering, he never actually wanted the leadership role. His Adepti also refer to him (and themselves) participating for the sake of "bringing prosperity back to the people" [Xianyun Story 3].
However, there is no prosperity in participating in war PERIOD, silly gooses!! How dare you act in the only way possible to lessen the violence for the innocents caught in the crossfire?? The arrogance. War criminals!! You shouldn't have participated in the first place! What happens to all the other innocents you've directly witnessed caught in the crossfire is up to them and their misfortune to bear. Not. You!
(now that I think about it, calling all of them war criminals for participating in the archon war (with majority of their moves being made in self defense) would more than likely be equivalent to calling Wriothesley a willing accomplice in the child tr4ff1cking ring he was victim to or Childe 100% guilty for everything that happened in Fontaine). But anyways.
2. He killed Chenyu Vale's god, and became the new ruler over the now godless and defenseless (because the Archon War was not over after her death) people.
Fu Jin states Chenyu was peaceful under that god's rule until the Archon War was called. She didn't know if her god chose to "go mad" over survival or "seeking the position of a god who may rule this world". Either way, she instigated a war against Morax and, frustrated in not being able to get the upper hand, decided to flood Bishui river in a last ditch attempt (which was also set to kill not only her people but the people Morax was assigned to look after. Queue his contract with his people triggering into effect).
It's not explicitly stated she died but she more than likely did. I mean, it's a war, and she wasn't going to stop murking all the innocents until she took the Archon spot.
Also...I...actually don't know if I could call it unrightfully stolen land (and before y'all bring up the whole "Archons don't belong they're on stolen land b/c usurpers" thing, so are all of the humans and beings created by the PO on this planet. Everyone who isn't a Vishap should be blamed). In order for a land to be stolen, it needs an owner still claiming ownership over it, and there was no owner holding ownership over it anymore.
The battle was also not instigated by Morax in an attempt to steal Chenyu Vale, it was first and foremost a battle out of self defense that later changed to a land naturally "changing hands" (leaders. For example you wouldn't say Focalors "stole" Fontaine after Egeria died, Ei "stole" Inazuma after Makoto or Venti "stole" all of Mondstat after the first leader's death). It would also constitute as unrightfully stolen if the native habitants fought against Morax now leading them, but they accepted his rulership over them with no underlying contempt/force. A natural and consenting change of hands.
But! Either way! Rightful self defense or not, he m6rdered! Which is bad!!!! He deserves to be punished for it and it's added onto his list of crimes!!!
3. He murked Osial, whose "d3ath"bed was the foundation of Guyun Forest.
Morax was noted to have murked Osial because Osial "wrought chaos upon his domain". Another piece suggests this was also an act of self defense, for Osial's power (whether it be out of hatred for Morax (which seems to be the more likely case because Zhongli says they were long grudging rivals) or just his general existence is unknown) extended over a large range, reaching Liyue's citizens and terrorizing them. Morax's intervention/confrontation of Osial was only noted after Osial's power reached and terrorized his citizens. There are no pieces insinuating nor confirming the opposite. [Diary of Roald the Adventurer, Vol. 6]. [Monolith Fragment].
...soooo the crime is once again murking in self defense. But violence is violence!! Punishable by law!! If Morax didn't want to be charged for this, he should've stood aside and let the waves terrorize and kill his people for many millennia to come (though wouldn't that also be breaking the contract/rules of being an archon, which is to act in the health/benefit of their citizens first and foremost?). Zhongli is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. But who cares! Whatever he does or doesn't do in this instance is punishable by law and *true* justice!!!
4. He murked the Chi/Qingce.
It is noted the Mountainplace the Chi "ravaged" long stood before it decided to make its living place there (dispelling the myth that its corpse formed the land). People also lived there before it started to cause havoc too. It is unknown why it was driven to cause chaos, but the fact of the matter is, it caused chaos to Liyue's people specifically, and as per Morax's duty as an Archon, he stepped in to slay(?) it. It's not completely dead, just separated into pieces. Morax could not permanently kill it.
...violence is violence though! What he did is punishable by law!! Though, technically doing anything else in this instance is also punishable by law (doing nothing and allowing the monster to ravage his people is against the ideals of an archon but forcing them to move is also punishable by causing liyueans emotional duress via forcibly moving them due to outside forces they can't control but he can. Doing this each time a monster appears onto the land they've dwelt on before its existence is also unfair). [The Stars Inscribe the Year].
5. Marchosius and other Adepti participated and sacrificed themselves as a result of the war neither them nor Morax started!
...so you could say it's all technically due to Morax they're forced under these conditions (even though he didn't start the war, force the war to happen, nor force them into a contract)! Punishable!!
The Adepti, who were not forced into following Morax [Xianyun Story 3], established a contract with him to protect Liyue and his citizens. There were risks that came along with this job they decided to commit to, but they still did so dutifully. The circumstances they agreed to led to many of their deaths, including Xiao's karma, of which there isn't an insta-relief potion to. Zhongli can only slightly offset the effects.
Basically they're literally a walking: "Well if it isn't the consequences of my own actions."
6. Liyue AQ.
Morax inadvertently went through with a plan to unleash a sealed god beneath the sea, as a test (more specifically for the people who signed up knowing their job's risks. Nonetheless, they are risks he was somewhat responsible for this time around).
Despite the test naturally having risks (as any test in existence does, it's not a proper test without risk), it was a battle partially planned by his own hand. Even if he didn't directly throw the chaos at them, he was still behind the scenes, therefore shared some responsibility for it and the consequences.
The game does go out of its way to confirm nobody was ever in any real danger (3 characters confirming this, Signora doing most of the talking in the scene) and the battle wasn't even at Liyue Harbor (Keqing stating it wasn't) however Osial is still a crazy god and if anyone got injured Zhongli would share some responsibility (he could've stopped it).
This (excluding Khaenriah, we don't know what happened there) is pretty much the only "stain" on his career, in terms of judging him for being guilty of not handling the Authority healthily or whatever. He could arguably be declared guilty because he set up a risk-less divine test that came out the wazoo or he could be declared as not guilty by being argued as responsible enough (as an Archon) to properly ensure everything is prepared for his stepping down (alongside there being confirmed no actual danger). His multi millennium experience with these things is further reassurance for this claim.
7. Azhdaha.
This is...this is pretty self explanatory. There is absolutely no defense to Azhdaha's actions nor a reasonable excuse for Zhongli to not confront him (especially when Azhdaha is more than likely the Geo Sovereign. There are literally no other contenders in Liyue to stop a crazed sovereign hellbent on decimating all humans on his continent).
This...this shouldn't need any arguments. It was literally Morax confronting him or the end of Liyue (this is the same dragon frog who caused immense earthquakes when turning around in a nap. Now imagine him up and raging about!).
PS: There is no confirmation anywhere whatsoever he directly took part in decimating the Sovereigns alongside the Shades. And if this were so, it would make zero sense for Azhdaha to automatically submit and wish to become BFFs with Morax after Morax tried to lay waste to him and his brethren some years prior.
PPS: We don't know if he was directly at Khaenriah. Despite all Archons being called there, quite a few didn't actually make it to Khaenriah (Venti, Rukka, Egeria, and we have some pieces stating Morax personally directed the troops to deal with the Abyss breaking through in the Chasm during the Cataclysm).
PPPS: Zhongli does not owe Neuvillette alone anything. Neuvillette is, above all, a judge. Of Fontaine. Do you see judges of the US rushing over to Cnada to subjugate over others in accordance to their own personal laws of their land? No? It also wouldn't make sense for Ei to go over to Fontaine to wreck havoc over Fontainians not following her personal Inazuma law(s) either right? Alright same applies here (with some game logic).

The Broken Contract
Fandom: Genshin Impact
Pairing: Morax/Zhongli x Reader
Other characters: Osial
Category: romance, angst, sfw,
Warnings: death of a character, violence I guess, since you'll read someone's death
Author's note: I recently entered this fandom and according to my PC, I'm not leaving soon since I installed the game and I'm a total addict to it. Also, you people ready to pull for Daddy Geo?
Tumblr media
You were there to speak with your brother, you were trying to reason with him, even when he didn't wanted to hear reasons to stop the war. You hated the place where you were, between two persons you loved: Your brother and your husband. You just wanted them to stop trying to kill each other.
Osial was there because you were his sister, had it been anyone else he wouldn't have appear. It didn´t matter that you were technically his enemy. You were always a bit smarter than him, and if he could get you back on his side, he was going to hear everything you had to say.
Morax was there because he thought you were acting strange. He didn't distrust you, he thought there was something wrong with you. Maybe you were tired and in need of a few days away from the war. He was there to tell you to go rest. What he saw however were you being held by Osial, staying so close, speaking so soft that he was struggling to hear.
Morax thought you were betraying him. You who had looked out for him, you who had got close to him. You, who had made yourself comfortable by his side. You who had carved your name in his heart. How was it possible? How could you fool him?
You laughed and suddenly the sound wasn't lovable but sinister and Morax caught your words as you laughed: "God of fools". Osial laughed along and crush you against him, you hugged him back hiding your face in Osial's chest and Morax wasn't able to handle it. Not only were you betraying him, you were breaking the most important contract for him: marriage. Every contract was sacred, but this was the worst, there was only one way to pay, death. He shot his polearm, thinking he would be able to take down two birds with one stone or pole arm, but there was no luck, he had only pierced through you.
Osial's expression of horror and panic was the most delightful image Morax was able to see, he called upon his weapon and the polearm flew back to his hand as you fell back out of Osial's hug, spilling your blood in the ground.
The God of contracts saw you and he felt something breaking even more when he saw your eyes focusing on him, blood fell from your mouth but the expression on your face was the same you had a couple of nights ago, as you told him you loved him.
— Look Os, it's my hus...— There wasn't a proper end for the statement as your eyes went dull, lifeless.
Osial felt the rage burst in his veins, poisoned words started to form in his mind, he wanted to avenge you but seeing you bloodied in the ground made him stop. You would never want that. You would never want to hurt Morax.
Osial, however, was a vengeful creature, not even the pain and suffering from your lost allowed him to let go and forgive. He couldn't do it, he was never going to forgive Morax, not even when he was being sealed in his gigantic, monstruos form.
"She didn't double-cross nor commit adultery. The sweet, precious and beautiful Y/n was my sister. She convinced me to stop fighting... Then you broke the most sacred of all contracts: Marriage"
Morax didn't show a reaction. His cold stone gaze stayed in the sea monster and shot the last one of his rock spears needed to seal him
"You shall suffer the wrath of the rock" Osial laughed after those words "You killed your wife for nothing and now you can't even ask forgiveness to her grave."
With the ritual done, Morax looked at the place where Osial now rested. Cold raindrops started to fall over him but he didn't moved. The cold water soaked his clothes, the droplets traveled over his skin and a sad smiled formed in his lips.
" What do you mean with that? We will never be apart. If you miss me or if you feel lonely, I will send rain your way. Every raindrop will be a kiss, if you get soaked it's because I'm hugging you and If the droplets trail down your body, those will be my fingers, going down your body to soothe you"
How stupid had he been. He couldn't even blame his feelings since he hadn't killed you out of rage or jealousy. He was thinking straight, he was rational when thinking that you had broke the marriage contract and needed to feel the wrath of the rock. How foolish of him, to think you would ever betray him and his love.

Could you tell us more about Nahtaviel? What is her story? What is the au youre referring to? Does she have any interactions with other characters?
Ohhhhhh!!! Sure!! Let me explain it to you in parts💖💖
To start, when I say "AU" I mean an alternate universe where my ocs are part of the story (such as a game, an anime, a novel, etc.).
I do this mainly so that there are no problems with those people in the fandoms who like the story to be followed 100%, which is why I say that it is AU and therefore the canon story will not be affected.
In the case of Nahtaivel she is part of the Genshin AU (which I share with my friends) where she is part of the story along with other ocs and therefore there are certain changes in the lore with respect to the original story to the game.
Now that we have clarified that point, let's go to the next one, where I will talk about this lady dragon.
Nahtaivel is part of my oldest ocs, I created her during 2014-2016 and she is based on Leviathan. Her name is basically Leviathan said backwards (Leviathan=Nahtaivel).
And in 2021 I adapted Nahtaivel for the lore of Genshin, which at that time her story was simpler compared to now, in addition to the fact that in 2021 the fandom didn't know about the existence of Sovereign dragons in the game, info would be revealed some time later.
Then in 2023 when the Fontaine arc came out, I decided to revamp Nahtaivel by giving her a more solid story that involved some parts of the game's story.
Many Genshin fans know that Neuvillette is the reincarnation of the sovereign dragon Hydro and that he is based on Leviathan.
Well this is where things get interesting.
In some myths and biblical stories about Leviathan, they say that there was not a single Leviathan but two Leviathans, a male and a female. And then God would kill the female because these sea beasts were a danger.
So at that moment I said "Hey, what if Sovereign Hydro reincarnated into not one but two new entities?"👀. Added to that I was also inspired by the lore of Zekrom and Reshiram from pokemon.
So basically Nahtaivel and Neuvillete are re-incarnations of the sovereign dragon Hydro and basically they consider each other as siblings (Naht being the older sister, for breaking the egg first before Neuvi). Although Neuvillette is the one who has control over the hydro element, obviously.
How crazy that there are also two Hydro archons(???.
Regarding the history of Nahtaivel I will try to summarize it a little:
Nahtaivel, the first moment she came to the surface from the depths of the ocean, she was curious about the world of land and humans (Yes, the little mermaid). So little by little she learned about this new world and its inhabitants, even interacting with humans and learning different languages of those times.
So in exchange for that, Nahtaivel would teach humans the secrets of navigation and encourage them to explore beyond the limits of the Teyvat's seas.
The humans of Liyue and Inazuma would begin to treat her as a goddess, calling her by the names of Gran Mare and Mother Sea. She was the one who maintained order and balance in the seas of Liyue and Inazuma.
In addition, Nahtaivel would form a good relationship with other deities and beasts of the sea, among them Osial, who would become her right hand.
But things would change with of the archon war, Nahtaivel tried to ensure peace between the deities of the sea and the inhabitants of the mainland because she did not want lives to be lost (And because she knew this was a twisted plan on Celestia's part). Which was one of the reasons Osial and the other sea deities saw her as someone "weak" besides that they envied the good relationship she had with humans.
And that is why one day they betrayed her, plotting to try to eliminate her and take her power to keep it for themselves. But that was their biggest and last mistake. Because they only caused the beast that slept in her finally to wake up.
Nahtaivel massacred the traitors who tried to kill her, her wrath was on the surface and few sea deities were able to escape, including Osial.
Two hundred years later, Nahtaivel would agree to help Morax seal Osial and, in the process, take revenge on him for his betrayal.
What she didn't expect is that she and Morax would end up in a romantic relationship, learning about each other and after sealing the vortex god, they would get married and have a 2000 year old marriage. They even had a daughter.
Currently Nahtaivel leads a peaceful life as a "mortal" with her husband in Liyue.
As for her relationship with the Genshin characters, it's still a work in progress but I have some here: Zhongli/Morax (husband), Neuvillette (younger brother), Beidou (ex-pupil, partner in crime 1),Venti/Barbatos (friend), Traveler (acquaintance), Xiao (her husband's pupil and she wants the poor boy to relax a little once in his life) and Hu Tao (Her husband's boss, partner in crime 2).
And regarding Nahtaivel's personality, she is quite motherly. She seems intimidating at first but the truth is that Naht is calm and depending on who she is with, she can be more open or not. Being that with her closest ones she has a softer attitude and likes to play some little joke.
She is honest with her words, and sometimes she can even be too direct with what she thinks, she doesn't like lies or betrayals. Naht is only aggressive when she feels threatened or is in combat with someone else.
Ahhh...I hope this wasn't too long haha TwT)💦 and thanks for asking!!💖💖💖

I just stumbled upon your god of war reader series and wanted to add in my own idea!
Mc: Is this yours? *holding a feral and terrified Xiao up by the scruff of his shirt like a kitten*
Guizhing and Zhongli: No?
Mc: Well, he is for now. *yeets Xiao at them* keep an eye on him I have a bitch to kill.
Basically instead of Zhongli, we were the ones who found Xiao fresh out of working for the archon who mistreated him (more like we just picked him up and left while everyone was too scared to stop us lol) and eventually decided that having Xiao stay at the Guili alliance would be a better environment for him to heal.
So one day reader just appears with Xiao in their arms all casually like: Can you watch my cat? Before leaving without another word because they decided to kill Xiaos previous master just in case.
It leaves Guizhing and Zhongli entirely confused because negotiations for forming an alliance had only just started and nothing was concrete yet you were already kind of trusting them with taking care of someone important to you???
Poor Xiao is devastated by the news for all the wrong reasons and wants to stay with them so they ask if they can stop by to visit every so often. It's clear from the look in their eyes that they're quite fond of Xiao, especially his chonky bird form, but they always maintain a certain distance that makes Guizhong sad to see. Maybe watching their interactions with Xiao, who has clearly been abused before meeting them, and how gentle they are with him helps change Guizhongs opinion of them?
Really just, Xiao being their unofficial-official first child with Zhongli as the other parent and Guizhong as the cool wine aunt, lol. Maybe Osial as some grumpy uncle if it's before his betrayal.
Sorry for such a long post, I'm not good at summarizing.
first off,
never be sorry for long post/asks, i love them <3
secondly,
hsdfjlskdjflk oml no but this could work.... i mean gow!reader is, at its core, a protector because of what happened in their past, so having them see xiao's suffering will certainly prompt them to act.
Tumblr media
it's just that in this scenario i would see him becoming one of your adepti instead of morax's?? since you were the one who first saw him and actually rescued him, the sense of gratitude and loyalty he has in canon towards rex lapis would go to you. under morax and guizhong's tutelage, it would be his goal to have your stamp of approval, for you to allow him to serve you and devote his blade to your causes.
your relationship is of a slightly-awkward-but-trying parent and shy-and-equally-awkward-and-socially-struggling child, and it's both hilarious and frustrating to watch. i agree that guizhong would probably feel a little differently towards you once she sees you genuinely trying to help xiao. meanwhile, morax sees you sleeping under a tree with chonky birb xiao also napping on your lap, and he feels himself falling head over heels all over again... ah, same old, same old.
gosh, imagine him having a rivalry with your siblings!adepti. him wanting to prove his worth and how despite he's been on your side for a shorter period, his loyalty will not lose to your first disciples. he's definitely going to be one of your most trusted and feared generals for sure. and with your blessings, xiao would literally be unstoppable, this hurricane of wind on the battlefield, barely visible to the untrained eyes as he downs one enemy after the others.
you know what would be interesting? after the archon war ends, when morax decides to enlist the help of the yakshas, and he asks for xiao's help. right in front of you.
it's an understatement to say that you're furious.
you've hidden your struggles about the tortured souls haunting you thus far, so none of them knows about it at this point, but you know what thousands of years of killing would do to your adopted son xiao. it would be your first big fight with your lover (but certainly not the last), and unfortunately, this time, there's no guizhong to mediate between the two of you....
and xiao is just. standing there, anxiously glancing at the both of you, internally panicking because fuck my usually sickeningly lovey-dovey parents are actually fighting now what am i supposed to do???

Can you do childe , scaramouche and xiao with a s/o that isn’t the greatest fighter but while shopping reader gets into a fist fight over something and wins
Synopsis :
You end up in a fist fight and win
Character :
Childe/tartaglia
Xiao
Scaramouche
Warning :
None, it's been a while I haven't written so I might make a few (a lot) of mistake
A/N :
I would gladly use again the excuse of my exam for this late, well, very late answer but the real reason is that I'm lazy, I hope I won't have to write this in two parts or else it will be even more delayed
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Childe/Tartaglia :
Childe knew you weren't the kind to fight, an he respected that
Being seen as a nuisance in his own country because of his tendency to bring chaos everywhere is already enough, so usually you're the balance of the two
But one night in liyue harbor when you were taking a stroll with you beloved boyfriend some guy recognized childe, he wasn't really welcomed anywhere anymore since the accident with Osial
Childe being well... Him, provoked them even more
At one point the guy, still trying to attack him verbally, said that he wasn't even worth being with you at all since he has blood on his hands
Childe became quiet and you knew it was the last straw, he tried to be better for you everyday and had some issues with his self image
So you through the hardest punch you could, to the point it even made you stand back a little
The other guy tried to attack you, luckily you knew the base of self defense et were able give more damage on them that they did en you
Then taking childe by the arm you started to speed walk away, winning
When he realized what happened he was just as excited as a puppy, telling you how amazing you were et imitating some of your move
You knew you'll have a long night when he started talking about sparring together
Xiao :
Even if he is an adpetus still in fonction and take a lot of his time to defeat demons he always go out of his way to make sure you get home or travel safe
One night when you were visiting him at wangshu inn you fell into a treasure hoarder's trap
Xiao heard your voice since you weren't that far away but got only closer, he couldn't intervene unless you called his name
And that's how he saw you, his sweet s/o, the most pacific person he met, taking part in a fist fight AND winning
Once it was over you just dusted your clothes and got on your merry way to visit him
He isn't going to bring it up to you unless you do but he found you pretty cool
Scaramouche :
Scaramouche doesn't fight much either, or at least he doesn't need to
Only a glance from him and people are already heavily sweating, so even if he was a really good fighter he don't go to violence immediately
During one evening, a party was set by the tsaritsa herself, she wanted the fatui member to bond and have some fun since the gnosis hunt was going smoothly
And while your boyfriend were pouting on a chair because he didn't wanted to be here, it didn't stopped you from having fun
Until a very drunk childe tried to start a fight with everyone available
Not very sobber yourself, but still more than childe the two of you started to playfully fight, until ut became a full fight with kick, punch and everything
Call it luck or call it childe being almost black out drunk but you managed to win against him
You still had a few bruises and cut here and there, so you just got home with scaramouche when he asked you to
Once in the confort of your home he loosen up a bit, told you he is proud that you put this ginger in place and won against him despite not being that keen on fighting but prefer if next time you'll let him handle it or just don't fight at all
You had to remind him that the scratch you got were nothing and that no, he can't kill childe just because he want to when he is like this
~hope you'll like it~
Hi! I really love your sagau fics. I’ve read your one-shots like Vulnus Aureum, which I especially liked for some reason, and the way you’re writing this au in your Gnaw fic is pretty interesting!
The elements made into their own beings, the Creator’s children is amazing! I love the Abyss Made Manifest.
“Some alchemist made them when Khaenri'ah existed” I wonder… Is this Gold/Rhinedottir?
Ngl, I did not expect Ganyu’s horn to be torn off, but that’s great! (wow that sounds weird) In most fics the Creator gets hurt and barely inflicts damage, so to see them cause that kind of injury is impressive! I love it.
I’ve seen in other sagau fics the hilichurls and other abyssal creatures being allies to the Creator, but it’s the first time I see someone write Osial. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen next, if he can help the Creator escapes… I really love the way you’re doing this! I'm very curious to see what comes next.
Thank you for writing this!
And thank you for reading this! I'm glad so many people are having a good time.
The Abyss Made Manifest (please, call her Nil, her full title makes her feel old) loves you too!
I don't exactly know much about the Rhinedottir/Gold, but I'm going to say she, at the very least, led to the clone existing.
Maybe not on purpose, but her work probably did a lot to lay the foundations of creating a vessel for a spirit. If she did actually have a direct hand in it, Nil likely devoured her.
(Also, the one who started the project? Immortal, eternally trapped in the Abyss, to be tormented forever, in every possible way. They're basically Prometheus, but instead of eagles eating their liver, they're just an abyssal chew toy until the creator gives them the final peace of deletion.)
Ganyu, while a sweetheart, is devoted to her work to a degree I'd maybe call obsessive, and in a cult AU I'd presume her faith would be just as (if not more) intense.
She, like most of the world, is pretty under the not-you's spell. If she knew, she'd likely march to that palace and kill the other you herself.
(Though she'd have to get in line, there's practically a mob of angry allogenes and Archons outside the door in that scenario.)
Osial is a big friendly hydra who needs more love, damnit.
A sweet baby who can also drown an entire section of the world. That is Osial. My noodle child.
Anywho, thank you for talking to me! The wonderful people on this website are the most human contact I get other than my two friends.
Archon War anon - and no worries if you thought that just Osial and Chi were enough! It's just that the way it gets talked about, I always felt like there had to be just a ton more gods fighting?
no absolutely! it does get talked about like it's thousands of them. which, like i mention in the previous ask (i know i should've read and answered this one in the previous also but i didn't check lmao) is also a huge hole of information that we simply do not have in-game. we don't know who the fuck was morax fighting. they tell us osial isn't the only one buried under guyun, but haishan can't be there bc beidou is the one that kills him, and beisht is out and about, so who tf is? i can't see liyue going to war with sal vindagnyr nor mondstadt or sumeru, let alone fontaine, and we know for a fact that he did not fight havria (...right?). so who was it?
chenyu vale did tell us that there was a different god in charge of that area, and i think it either also tells us or we can assume that said god had several adepti-equivalents with them that also fought morax? but if its only adepti-equivalents were fujin n co, then that leaves only the god to fight since those three deserted. it likely wasn't only those three but still, i can't remember rn. my point stands.
one of he books mentions that the dunyu ruins were home to a different god altogether? i think? but we don't know the age of those ruins. and even then, they're the exact same architectural stlye as the rest of liyue, for the most part. like the only time i've seen non-guili style architecture in liyue (that isn't the domains or the chasm) was in yelan's story quest? i think? which took place under qingxu pool??? so there might've been a god there. there's also a sea god mentioned in another one of the books. we don't know who tf that was, if they were even real, or if their timeframe even matches the archon war.
so again, i think the best explanation we have so far is that we know of no gods that fought morax (beyond osial n chenyu vale's lord) because the way we find that out in-game in other regions is if they had another civilization to their own. kinda how deshret and rukkadevata had their own people (though those two didn't fight). so if we see no other sign of a civilization other than the guili assembly in liyue, then we stand to reason that the entirety of the nation (bar chenyu vale? but even then the ruins there are the exact same style so) was one unified nation.
which would mean it was a china situation, where everyone fought eachother within the same nation until only morax remained standing. which is why we don't know of anyone else – they left no marks of having had a civilization of their own, and so we cannot know if they ever did exist. the only reason why we know havria and chenyu vale's god existed is because the game told us about them. if the game hadn't told us, and we'd only seen the ruins of their civilization, we would've found the exact same style of the guili assembly and then assumed morax simply controlled those places as well.
osial is a different topic entirely, i don't think he counts hahah
edit: forgot about xiao's master, so i guess that's another confirmed god he fought? alongside chi, whom i also forgot about. still, i think chi was more of a land beast than a god with a people, and xiao's master i have no clue about. (am i tripping or did chenyu vale insinuate that the god in charge of that area was xiao's master?????? maybe i'm just confused. if it was, that just takes one god off the list, since xiao's master and chenyu's lord could've been the same person. if not, i've no fucking clue where xiao's master fits into all of this. like i'm not sure if it's ever stated that it was a god from liyue? it must've been. but then, where were his people? did he even have any? idk. you get my point)
Before It's Too Late - IX (9).
Little reminder: If you would like to join the taglist, you are more than welcome to comment as such. I've gained a little attention from those who enjoy SAGAU content, but feel obligated to comment and reblog.
CW: Angst, slight cliffhanger
"What was with that look back there, Signora?" Childe asked as both of them stepped off their boats and into the docks of Snezhnaya, knowing they had somewhere specific to go.
"Childe, don't tell me you are such a fool you did not recognize the Creator's ring on the Traveler's finger," Signora glanced at the man, though he scoffed.
"I noticed, but just as I was about to ask her more about it, you made me leave. Even then, I had my own suspicions when Lumine and I fought at the Golden House." He says in annoyance.
"Any sort of suspicions you have about her will be brought up once we confide in the Tsaritsa. Until then, Childe, it would be best to keep your mouth quiet. You may spew out nonsense before you say any truth."
"La Signora, Tartaglia, what brings you to me at this hour?" The Tsaritsa asked as she watched two of her loyal Harbingers walk to her throne.
"We have Morax's gnosis, as per the contract between you both." Signora says and holds it out to the Archon. She took it from the woman, not moving an inch.
Tumblr media
"Is that all from you both?" She asked as she observed the object in her hand, then smiled at the gnosis in return.
"Not all, Tsaritsa. The Traveler you've come to despise... we think she might have Creator Sister Laila's ring, the true ring." Hearing those words from Childe's mouth caught her attention, making the woman place the gnosis on the table beside her throne.
"Impossible," she interjects, causing the two to grow confused. "If Laila were here, she would be the first to embrace us once more, just as she had when she created humanity. She would not shroud away from her Archons," the Tsaritsa sounded like she denied the idea of Laila not reuniting with her very creations.
"We thought so, too, for a time. However, when I fought the Traveler at the golden house, she pulled out this weird-looking weapon. It tore through my Foul Legacy Transformation with a singular blast. When I released Osial from under Morax's spears, a singular shot killed him in an instant." Childe continued, making her stand from her throne.
"If that is the case, then I will task you, along with the other Harbingers, to bring her back here. I will know it when I see her," moving away from her throne, she dismissed them both and left the room.
"Laila, when you meet with the Qixing and the Adepti, what are you going to tell them?" Paimon asked as she floated around Lumine mindlessly. "Are you gonna tell them about your sister?"
"I'll have no choice but to. If they allow Faleon to come and bring what I need, then I would not need their help. My sister gets weaker by the second, and if she turns into a witch before she could give her power to me, which insures Teyvat would not fall, then humans die out in months. There is a reason I've also called upon the Acting Grandmaster from Mondstadt." Laila explains as the two leave Liyue Harbor.
Tumblr media
"And the plan is to meet them all today?" Lumine asked next, which the creator hummed in response. "I wish you the best of luck." Though the traveler had not forgotten her brother in the mix of this, she knew the fate of Teyvat could help them reunite.
As Laila once again took over Lumine's body, she looked at the sky for a moment. Once she could see the sun setting, she began walking toward the designated meeting place. Seeing as Nantianmen was in the adeptal bode, no one passed through, out of respect. It also meant the statue of the Three were nearby.
Hearing the flapping of wings, Laila sat down at the stone table first before seeing the adepti sit down. "If you would kindly give the Liyue Qixing a moment, they had to bring the Acting Grandmaster with them," she says as a floating tea pot hovered in front of them. "Tea, anyone?"
Watching as Xiao appeared, Laila thought for a moment. "They'll be here in two minutes, and then I will explain everything. I owe you that much," she says and stands up from the seat. Hearing as the adepti stayed quiet, Madame Ping arrived with the three Qixing, Jean included.
"Now that you've all arrived, I will start by explaining what a soul gem is. It is tied to everything, including the reason I left." As she opened her hand, a small crystal formed, something that looked foreign to them all. "This soul gem is inside my ring, and if it gets destroyed, I die."
As she set it on the table, she continued. "However, there is more to this little thing than meets the eye. If you'll notice, a soul gem shines as a sign of purity, that the person who owns it still has hope. If a soul gem grows tainted, a grief seed is the one thing that clears it." Seeing the looks of confusion on their faces, she continued.
"Because of this, I am a magical girl, someone who fights a never-ending battle against witches, creatures of despair. This soul gem is the opposite of a grief seed, which comes from a witch. My sisters and I are magical girls, and before we created Teyvat, we fought side-by-side." She says before calming down enough.
"Your Grace, if it is a difficult topic for you, you don't have to tell us." Ganyu noticed her uneasiness, but she shook her head.
"When the three of us first created Teyvat, we had the intent of creating seven acolytes to sit in the thrones of Celestia. If anything happened to us, these seven would have enough power to deal with witches together. When it came time to choose the Archons, every single god I had created wanted to be an Archon. Not out of power, but because it gives a direct link to us." She continued.
"Almost 1000 years before the Archon War, I suspected something to be wrong with my sister. Each time I asked about her, she denied anything of being wrong. I can't remember the day, but when I checked on her after she made an abnormally large star, she turned into a witch. I had to put an end to her before she could destroy Tevyat. That is the reason I left." Laila says before looking at the adepti.
"If that's the case, why have you returned now, of all times?" Keqing asked skeptically, seeing as though she couldn't quite believe Laila yet.
"Because Mayla is going through the same thing. Her soul gem is tainted enough that if I free her from the preservation chamber she's in, she may very well turn into a witch that could destroy this universe. Mayla created the ground, the crops, the first to show how to harvest. I'm sure within the past few centuries, not as many plants have bloomed as once before. If she does, most cooking ingredients become unusable." It was a lot to say at the moment, so she kept quiet for the moment.
"Your Grace, Mondstadt has an ongoing festival in the Divine's names," Jean points out, which Laila nods in response. "Surely, those have helped a bit with your sister's gem, wouldn't it?" If she heard that her efforts didn't help, and how they were useless, but she shook her head.
"They helped, but only for a short time. Teyvat was once a singular nation, not divided like it is now. If you wanted to help, all the nations would need to hold a festival together. Even then, if that worked, it wouldn't hold for long." it hurt to admit the truth, but if Mayla didn't have long, Teyvat would crumble when she turns into a witch.
"If I may, can I ask what you plan to do next?" Xiao spoke up, though the question left her quiet for a moment.
"I still plan to leave. Truthfully, I grew dissatisfied with this world. Maybe I expected too much, but until I have a reason to continue looking over Teyvat and the others connected, I don't see a reason to stay here." She thought aloud, which the faces of everyone dampened with sadness. "Then again, if my travels through Teyvat proves it has changed since the start of the Archon War, I might change my mind."
"If we were to move the statue to Liyue Harbor," Ningguang starts, which Laila hums.
"Geo and Dendro slimes. Many people underestimate their strength, but though the adepti cannot lift the statues, the slimes can. They were meant to be the original guides of Teyvat, and as such, they will follow you wherever you lead them to," Laila answers before looking at the sky again. "None of you have seen a witch, have you? Not up close."
"I believe it is safe to say we have not," Jean adds next, making the woman hum for a moment.
"Would you like to? By my abilities, I can share memories with anyone I choose to. I should remind you, just in case, that this is a memory. I know it was never fully discussed, the truth behind my sister's death. That day was the reason I left, but it was also the reason the Archon War began."
The world around them was covered in a temporary darkness, followed immediately by the sun above them.
"Carin? Come on, I thought we were supposed to visit the gods again. They should've chosen who the higher gods are by now." Laila says as she sees her sister putting stars into the sky again. "Why do you work on the stars at this hour?"
"Laila... do you honestly think the thousands of gods you've created could choose only 7 to follow us?" Those words weren't something Carin would usually say, though her youngest sister noticed how slow her movements have gotten.
Tumblr media
"I don't get it... What's wrong?" Laila asked as she stepped closer to her sister, though she could tell something was wrong. "Sister, is something the matter?"
"Laila, please extend my apologies to Mayla and to the gods who wait for us." As Carin set her soul gem on the table, Laila rushed to the sight of the tainted gem, deflating at the sight.
Using her abilities, Laila conjured a hammer to destroy Carin. Raising her arms, black mist seeped out of the tainted gem. Turning behind her, Laila watched as her sister's body fell to the ground. The sound of crying rang out through Celestia. The growing size of a witch tore through the architecture of the castle as the day grew to night.
Just as the banquet of gods approached the gates, the skies above turned into a cloudy night. The sound of marching soldiers in front of them caught the gods' attention, though further sight proved 2D soldiers marched down the stairs of Celestia. Such a sight could've been considered a march to execution.
The floating stars around the witch formed into red spider lilies, a beautiful march to an execution. But even then, what was beautiful never lasts. Laughter broke the silence as the soldiers around her started attacking the gods. An impenetrable shield protected the gods, though Laila pursued the witch toward Teyvat.
Unrealistic tears fell from the eyes of the witch, as if she cried as her soldiers tried killing the gods, though her efforts were in vain. "In here, quickly," Mayla's voice demanded of the gods, all of them listening without a second thought.
"Sister, please!" Laila called out, though the witch showed no effort to stop. The tears that fell from the witch's eyes burned the bridge behind her, severing the stairs from the floating heaven.
Oh my. No one's been giving you requests. Ooh, that sucks. Let's see...
Maybe a modern day kind of reincarnation soul mate piece? Like Zhongli/Morax's soulmate was killed during the Archon Wars and then reborn into 2000 years later in the present? Like Reader goes to Liyue after hearing that Rex Lapis is dead?
I hope by "modern" day you mean the time frame of the game! I don't normally do soulmate stuff but I can have a little fun with this~ mod Cake
Tumblr media
You were a completely average person, all things considered. Though you haven't been granted a vision, you felt a connection with the earth all around you.
Mythology was something you were fascinated with, so you practically memorized all the old stories about the archons. Despite not growing up in Liyue, you felt a strange connection to Rex Lapis, god of contracts.
So when you heard of his passing, something resonated within you. It felt like losing something you never actually knew. Still, you felt the need to go and pay your respects to the fallen deity.
On your way to Liyue, news of Osial's resurrection and subsequent defeat by mortal and adepti alike reached you. That was good, at the very least. It seemed that Liyue would continue to thrive, even without it's archon.
With the ship docked, you stepped into the land of contracts. Liyue Harbor was a bustling city of business and culture, and you were a little overwhelmed, in all honesty.
You eventually ran into a man by the name of Zhongli. There was a moment where it felt like he was looking right through you, but then he acted like nothing was strange.
"You seem lost. Are you new to the city?" His voice was deep, friendly, and familiar.
You explained to him the purpose of your journey. There was a subtle change in his expression. It felt almost...sad? Nostalgic, maybe. Sympathetic? It was hard to read.
He lead you up to Yujing Terrace, to the site Rex Lapis fell. There was some incense in the middle. Having brought your own, you went over and offered a small prayer.
"A compassionate heart, you have." You heard your new companion speak. You explained your reasoning, your fascination with the supernatural and a strange connection to Morax.
"I see..." There was a fond smile, before the man offered to show you around the harbor. Naturally, you said yes.
Hi. Sorry for the following rant, but you're the only person I know who seems to be having a hate-love relationship with genshin. Please feel free to ignore this though if you want.
So I was doing Zhongli's first story quest, about Havria, and it's revealed that when she died there was backlash due to her godly powers. Now I don't remember for certain if this is canon or fanon, but I also thought that the reason Osial was imprisoned and not killed was due to the backlash. So how did Zhongli's "death" not get questioned then? Like Rex Lapis' death should have leveled at least half of Teyvat. And maybe sure, common citizens wouldn't have this information, but at least the Adepti should have known. Was it explained somewhere and I just missed it?
Like Liyue arc was so full of plot holes it's not even funny anymore. (And this is coming from someone who is willing to overlook a few plot holes). Is it so hard for Mihoyo to hire some competent writers, or at least keep track of all that's being said. Like I get that writing is hard, but if you strip it to the bare bones genshin is a simple story, and I think if they had kept that in mind they could have done so much better.
Again sorry for the long rant. i guess I just needed to vent a little bit.
Ah, you poor soul....
You made the classic mistake. When reading Genshin, you felt the hollowness of the storyline and the lack of any logic or explanation behind its events, so you instinctively tried to connect what was happening to other parts of the story. Your self-made explanation made sense, it felt good, so you assumed it was actually canon. But it's not.
There is no reason ever given for why Morax sealed his enemies instead of killing them. This is simply never discussed or mentioned. Same way there is no explanation for why the Traveler wants to see Morax's corpse so bad, or why we think a Guizhong Ballista will help us look for the cocogoat. We just do it because the plot needs us to do it.
In regard to gods exploding when they die, it seems to be something they can choose to control. The energy Andrius unleashed when he died (because, yeah, he's a ghost in present day) was actually beneficial to Mondstadt, since it change the previously frozen climate to something warmer. There's also no mention of Deshret or Rukkhadevata causing any big explosions with their deaths.
Take your personal pick of whether Havria was just taken too much by surprise to control it, was too weak and pathetic to control it, or if she decided to fuck up those bitches who shanked her on purpose.
In regard to why the adepti never question the whole "Rex Lapis was MURDERED" thing, it's because his supposed murder is just a plot device to have a cool sequence of events where the Traveler is a fugitive for some reason. After the end of Act 1, the entire concept of his death being caused by someone intentionally is largely dropped. EDIT: On replay, there's some mention from Keqing that the Qixing would nominally be the best suspects (though no explanation how they could have possibly achieved it), but that the adepti simply do not believe humans could have done it. On the other hand, they also never mention the adepti looking for any non-human culprit, so... do they think he just dropped dead from old age? This is never explained. At the end, the Qixing just tell the human populace that Morax failed a heavenly trialed and uh ascended or something.
At the most generous, you can say that "murder" was just Ningguang's kneejerk reaction and she sweeps it under the rug as quickly as possible once she realizes how stupid it is, and the adepti never took it that seriously. They're just mad in a generic way that Rex Lapis is dead, whatever the cause might be.
Honestly, Genshin's plot being stupid is like... it's bad. But it's made infinitely worse for me by that fact that the characters are worse. The characterization and (lack of) character arcs are just... I can't do this. Why does this """story""" even exist? It's so pointless.
....I mean, I know why it exists. GOTTA SELL THOSE ANIME WAIFUS
Same here, it was pretty touching-
... Anyway-
In this cutscene we see, at min. 1.34, that there's a strange statue thingy, and we see Morax and the Yakshas that are doing something that looks like a seal.
My theory is that the statue is Guizhong, and they're creating a seal so that her dearh doesn't have the same effect of Havria's.
Because when the Goddess of Salt died, her body released a huge explosion of energy that turned her people into salt statues, so it's not strange to imagine that something like that happens whenever a god is killed (that could be the reason that Osial was only sealed, and not killed), and they used a seal to contain the damage!
Yeah it's pretty much implied to be her in the cutscene, considering Cloud Retainer said all they managed to arrive to was her lifeless body and that very much looked like a petrified Guizhong. The dark swirling thing the Yakshas are sealing also seems to be the black dust described in one of the tablets in Guili Plains about its fall, which could probably be an immediate aftereffect of her death
Makes me wonder if Guizhong ended up looking like that because of her nature or if she had to be petrified to further minimize causing another catastrophe
In the Memory of Dust lore description, it said she was dissolving into fine dust and the statue in the cutscene is in the middle of crumbling. I feel like it could be her nature that caused her to turn into a statue considering she still managed to speak as she lay dying, slowly dissolving before being cut off. Tho we can't really rule out the possibility of her being petrified after dying then turning into dust and Zhongli was just overlaying the memory of her final words at that moment
It could have also been her cause of death. Like, slowly becoming petrified and the stone crumbling away at the same time caused by an enemy's power, which sounds like a pretty terrifying way to go
However she ended up that way, it's quite sad as Guizhong was said to have had a lonely final smile and she looked like she'd been hugging Zhongli, or perhaps had been hugging herself as the end approached
I've beat this horse before but I still can't get it out of my head how the fandom completely ignores how Childe treated Liyue like they were lambs to slaughter and than have him the one to be so upset over Zhongli's "betrayal" (admittedly I role my eyes whenever it's referred to as that).
I don't think people remember that Childe got the sigil of permission before Zhongli faked his death meaning that his plan to raise Osial to target Rex Lapis was always on the cards. Childe spent months in this new nation forming new relationships and yet he had no hesitation about potentially killing many of them just for his Tsaritsa.
Yes, he expressed his regrets to the traveller about having to go this route but he didn't hesistate.
There was no warning to the people he had met, not to Xiangling who's restaurant he dined at often, not to Qiqi who he imported coconut milk for when he learned she liked it, not to Zhongli who had become a close associate to, because he had one goal in mind and that was to fulfil the Tsaritsa's mission.
And why would he put them first? He's part of the Fatui, who we know act by the philosophy that the end justifies the means. If it was ordered by the Tsaritsa, who he promised to follow and who he respects greatly, it's no wonder he would follow through with no hesitation.
I know some people argue that Childe put his faith in Rex Lapis to stop Osial but personally I find it a weak argument. Firstly, Childe admits himself he doesn't like to get those weaker involved (meaning the citizens of Liyue) if he didn't have to which to me is an acknowledgement that his actions could have consequences for them. Secondly, the reason for summoning Osial was to steal Rex Lapis' gnosis and we saw what happened to Venti when his gnosis was forcefully taken from him.
At best, he planned to take the gnosis after Rex Lapis had sealed Osial once again. At worst he would have taken it mid-fight. However as this didn't happen and canon hasn't expanded on what Childe planned to do, it's speculation for the most part.
It's why I always get frustrated when in fics, shipping or otherwise, that Childe gets upset with Zhongli for making him public enemy number one without having him acknowledge how his own actions did this. It's always Zhongli who has to feel bad about the deceit but Childe is never made to reflect on his actions and what he actually tried to do.
I find it frustrating as someone who loves Childe to never see this side of his emotions actually explored, at least not without authors making him pin the blame on Zhongli. If you want to have him upset at his treatment in Liyue after the Osial incident, than actually explore why he's being treated that way and his own role in this and how that would effect him.
Stop babying him! He's not the innocent uwu boy who got taken advantage of by the Gods that fandom likes to make him out to be, he's a very complex and interesting character with many sides to him that seemingly clash and yet come together to make the character we know as Tartaglia.
(TL;DR me expanding on my prior hc on how smol tonia’s authority works in the fatui chain of command in regards to the chasm fatui quests + the osial incident + some Fun Tonitoni Opinions About The Fatui And Her Work
ft. I AM SO EMO RIGHT NOW)
(so to rehash, my hc is that smol tonia, as a harbinger, currently works alone with zero men personally assigned under her tho she’s capable of “borrowing” things in the area if she has to. so she really just got shuttled to liyue with her own personal mission re: the gnosis and could use the fatui men and resources there if she wanted, but otherwise, none of it was really her business
so most likely, tonia heard about the fatui mission re: the chasm in passing but didn’t know any real specifics, if anything at all
.
that said, even then........... knowing her own disdain for the fatui, for their immorality at times - i do also hc that the whole osial business was her final card. as quick as she is to anger, to make ridiculous decisions, she’s not stupid. and even if she acts horribly to her colleagues and to civilians, at heart, she doesn’t want to do harm or be a “bad person”. any “deeply evil acts” are because she’s resigned to it, has no choice to do them as a harbinger of the fatui.
if she had a choice - if she could just leave the fatui, no consequences involved - she would. she absolutely, 100000% would.
unfortunately the tsaritsa sees tonitoni as a trump card of her own, so she stays. and so, tonia is reluctantly resigned to crossing lines in the course of her work. tho she truly tries not to where she can, to restrain her devastation to ultimately petty things (buildings and objects are material; people’s moods and peace of mind can always be restored; lives and true happiness are not - unless the person deserves nothing). osial was her last card bc she very well understood it could cause a death toll, especially to oblivious innocents.
she wouldn’t particularly care about the fatui getting an awful reputation after. reputation is wholly immaterial and repairable. a person’s life is nowhere comparable.
it’s why i also think that when it comes to the fatui trapped in the chasm......... she would be incredibly upset. to the fact that nothing was done for them—and to herself, because she didn’t do enough, she didn’t care to look deeper into the matter of the chasm and realize it’s not just her and personnel stationed in liyue that could have repercussions heaped on them bc of osial. and sure, these fatui aren’t under her direct command—none of them are, really—but she’s internalized quite early on into her harbinger career that she’s still responsible for people down the chain of command. she’s meant to be a leader, a trustworthy and capable figure, even if she doesn’t want to be.
it’s also possible that in regards to the fatui in the chasm, she had been reassured/preemptively reasoned that as they were under a different harbinger’s authority, that harbinger would manage the matter and make sure to recall their people. needless to say, in that case, tonia would be soooo pissssedddddd on hearing that no recall was put out, nor any attempts really to extract them. and feel even more guilty, as She has the ability to command another harbinger’s men if needed—which is to say, she could have put in a recall order before the rite of descension on the pretense that she needs them for her own mission.
.
—on a side note, i v much do hc that due to all of her traumatic experiences + fatui work, smol tonia does have a slightly......... bended moral stance, in general.
certainly, she wants to be a good person - but she understands on a practical level, considering her situation, that’s just impossible in a strict sense. she’s killed, tortured, maimed and devastated people—so, so many, and some of them she honest to god couldn’t care about. she can’t be good. she accepts that she can never be a truly good person, after what she’s done and become.
but she aims to not stoop to a level of blindness because of this. that even if she’s not a good person, she won’t let it become an excuse for anything - she will accept her villainy as villainy, she will accept the cruelty and the horrors as fundamentally unacceptable things.
even as her work advances the tsaritsa’s respectable but extreme endeavors, even as it’s become instinctive to resort to terror and murder as a first and only option - even as she does all this for her own personal goals, in a way, to claw and tear her way back to her family and to ensure their wellbeing, no matter what. even then, she believes and accepts that the end should never justify the means.
eyes wide open, drinking in the never-ending shades of grey to black. she will always be a sinner, awaiting her ticket to hell. it’s just a matter of when.)
Cleanse
Kazari’s quest had me in my feelings when I wrote this. I’ve been using it for zine applications but kept forgetting to post it here. Lumine angst below.
***
Lumine settles beneath the limbs of a Yumemiru tree, tired and emotionally frayed after defeating the miasmic tumor. She takes a deep breath hoping the smell of Sakuras and ozone will steady her. The quest had been long and fraught with peril. She felt somewhat guilty about the love letter burning a hole in her pack.
“I really don't think you're supposed to eat that raw,” Paimon says as Lumine pulls out a lavender melon and bites into it.
“Some things are good fresh, unless you’re saying I should season and roast you before eating?”
Paimon pouts and puts her hands on her hips. “Paimon is not “emergency food.” Stop trying to eat me!”
“So you don’t want any of the melon?”
“Paimon didn’t say that! After all of that cleansing, even that looks appetizing.”
As Paimon finishes the leftover fruit, Lumine takes out a kitsune mask. It's insides are stained with pink dust, all that remained of Kazari and the Kitsune Saiguu.
There is so much sadness and pain in this world. Is this what you saw?
So many questions had run through her mind ever since that fateful day. She can still feel the residual wrong of that perverted altar. What could you have seen that would make you side with them? What could make you manipulate innocent creatures and kill innocent people?
Even an island like Inazuma was touched by the pain and cruelty of this world. The hurt of its trapped people leached into the land itself. She suppresses a shudder at the image of warrior-shaped manifestations. Lumine remembers how Kazari would talk about the Sakura, like it was a sentient being. On the outside it looked strong, but it was crying out, suffocating under all that darkness, the rot killing it slowly from the inside out. Kinda, like me, huh?
It had been a month since Lumine had met Dainsleif and fought the abyss herald. Since, Aether—
There's a painful twist in her chest and she feels warmth on her face.
“Lumi?” Paimon asks, her voice filled with worry.
The Sakura had been dying, poisoning everything it touched. Lumine had tried to keep up her cheerful face to not worry Paimon, but she had been off. Rushing recklessly into battle, getting annoyed at every minor request that took her off course. Long sleepless nights where she would replay Aether leaving over and over and over again.
If I had been faster.
If I wasn’t wasting time solving every minute problem of Teyvat.
I wonder if I'm dying too?
She hiccups and her chest spasms as the first sob breaks through.
“Lumi! What's wrong?”
Much like the Sakura, she had been accumulating rot within. Ever since that day when the most important person, the reason why she traversed this large and dangerous land, when they had found each other again and he-he "Why-why did he leave!" she screams into the twilight night.
Her sobs are like cracks breaking open and revealing more and more pain. Every abyss mage and ruin guard, Dvalin, Childe, Osial, and there was still so far to go.
“Lumi, it's okay—”
"It's not, it’s not okay!”
Paimon, as tiny as she is, hugs her tight as Lumine sobs into her arms.
“Why am I not good enough? What could be so important that he would leave, again?” She heaves. “I've done nothing but look for him, became Teyvat’s human gopher and trailing like a dog after any scrap of information.” She starts to hyperventilate. “A-and he just left, with no explanation. Just left me alone because of some stupid conflict that doesn’t even involve us!”
“Lumi, you’re not breathing. You’re scaring Paimon!”
Lumine holds her head in her hands, sobs becoming muffled through her fingers.
“He left me.”
"It will be okay, Lumi. We'll find your brother. He's waiting for you, remember?" Paimon hugs her tighter. “And you’re not alone, you have me. I’m with you to the very end.”
A quiet breeze brings the smell of Sakuras. It envelops Lumine as she cries out months of hardship. It’s some time before her sobs become small gasps and eventually sniffles. All the while, Paimon holds her and rubs her hair. With some clarity, Lumime remembers the mask in her hands. She had been digging her fingers into its face, blood from her fingers smeared across it.
Do not be blinded. Do not waver. Keep walking the path that you believe in.
“Kazari…” Lumine sniffles a few more times and wipes her eyes. “You're right, Paimon. I can't quit, but It's just so hard." Paimon smiles as she wipes a remaining tear off of Lumine’s face.
"The best things come from hard work, right? Like how Xiangling’s best dishes take so much effort!"
Lumine laughs. “Of course, you link this back to food.”
Paimon sticks out her tongue but continues to hug Lumine until her chest stops heaving. “It’s okay to be sad, I’ll be here for you.”
And I declare it purified hereby.
Lumine rubs her eyes. “Paimon, I'm glad I met you and everyone else. You’re important to me.”
Paimon hugs her again. “I’m glad I met you too, Lumi. We’re the best travel companions ever!”
***
As Lumine sets up their camp for the night, she feels lighter. She looks out to the night, the lights from Konda a comfort and the tiny pinpricks of campfires in the distance a warning.
“I’ll find you, Aether. Nothing will stop me from getting us home, together.”
