something that pisses me off in RA is that Flanagan will occasionally hype up Pauline as this super important and prominent figure in Will’s life, even treat her as a proxy for the mother he never knew, and yet will just refuse to show it beyond the like. two or three (personal) conversations that they have in canon. I get that he was attempting to make her an important person in Will’s life but why not do that by actually making her an important person in Will’s life

I know people are upset about Izzy being killed (I am too) but the truth is I don’t think it was bad writing or even them diminishing Izzy’s character, I actually think everything about the last episode has to do with production and I think Izzy lovers will feel a little better about it if they see it like that (it helped for me).

Basically, if you look at it like this, I think 2 important things came into play. Budget and how the showrunners assumed this would play out. Which is to say that they probably assume HBO will either renew them for season 3 and cut their budget again or they’re going to be cancelled.

Both are very likely, so assuming they had this in mind, removing Con, who I’d guess is the 3rd highest paycheck after Taika and Rhys was probably their best budgeting move, especially if they’re thinking of having an all out war in the final season that they probably want to be a visual spectacle, so each season feels like it’s getting consistently larger in scope.

On the other hand, if they do get cancelled (which they probably will because the HBO CEO is a weird little conservative goon), they left the ending in a way that could be considered an ENDING while still being prepped for a 3rd season. So in the time they had left (which was 2 episodes less than their first season) they gave Izzy an entire completed character arc.

I 100% understand the sadness and anger, especially after all the shit he went through during the beginning of the season, I felt gut punched when I learned he died and was bitter as hell through my whole first viewing of the season even though I’d had more than a month to process it. But after having thought it through, I genuinely don’t think it’s simply them treating Izzy as just an extension of Ed’s character growth and I sure as shit don’t think it’s because they wanted to conform to Izzy haters.

I think if they had all of the resources and episodes they wanted, had a guaranteed season 3, I think we would have gotten the character growth we got with better pacing and he probably would have at minimum made it to season 3 (I also think he would have had a love interest, but that’s just what I wanted for him tbh).

I think they did the best they could with what they had, allocated a lot of budget and screen time towards his character despite having less of those 2 things than the first season, and at least let Izzy have a completed story and arc, even if the ending was deeply disappointing.

Well, I’m still glad that Gojo was always a character who was growing and learning at least. He’s literally one of my favorite characters of all time now. Like, he’s never been as perfect as how the fans would make him out to be despite canonically being viewed as an absolute nuisance to everyone around him (I don’t think his peers necessarily hate him but a lot of them probably hate to see him coming and the ones who’ve dealt with him long enough to consider him a friend, tolerate him and groan whenever he opens his mouth, too 😭… out of love. He’s extremely childish so there is only sm the other adults around him can take and to an extent, his students. I think the only characters in canon who adore him and their eye’s sparkle whenever he’s around, and being a silly teacher was Yuuji and Miwa (she asked him for his autograph (he’s the most famous sorcerer in the jjk world) and when she was alone, she did a little dance in the empty hallway 🥺…) from what we’ve seen even though the others still care about him, too. They just find him rather annoying, which he most definitely is. And he does it on purpose. He plays too much.)

Star Wars VII breaks my heart a little bit because I LOVED Rey in the force awakens. Scavenging for parts no makeup wearing an old x wing pilot helmet chewing with her mouth open marking the days on the wall. Bonds with every droid or human she comes across. Scrappy and alone and endlessly optimistic. I wanted to see HER character arc. But instead she lost every defining personality trait, became the world’s most generic protagonist, and kissed the man who psychologically tortured her and also committed genocide.

Finally finished the book I’ve been trudging through for over a year!!!

#I do not dnf books especially since I was like over halfway through it #I had seen this book while working at the store in 2019 and thought it sounded interesting #got it for Christmas that year didn’t have time to get around to until last summer #I have a basic understanding of how music works and whatnot but this was just so dense and boring #the book could’ve been 100-200 (maybe even more) pages shorter if the interlude things weren’t included #I just felt like he rambled on so so much and like clearly the editors got tired because there are a handful of errors throughout out it #I think my favorite error is referring to ‘You Belong With Me’ as ‘You Belong To Me’ in the glossary #like he also mentioned Pandora a lot because he helped create stuff for it and it was like we get you think pandora is great #anyway going to do a poll to help me decide what to read next!

Can you imagine how much better the last two seasons of legacies would have been if Hope and Landon decided to stay forgotten by the people at the school. They would have went to New Orleans, got Hopes family to remember. Together they would have gotten answers to everything they needed. They would’ve found a way to defeat malivore that didn’t involve Hope becoming a full tribrid before she actually wanted to. And that didn’t involve Landon being sacrifice unnecessary again.
