Hi, I’m Elliott, and writing smut changed my life.
I also write military sci-fi and fantasy and D&D shitposts, but this is about the smut. I promise it won’t get weird. Much.
In 2010, I was scraping by as a substitute teacher and things were not great at home. I had only written gamer fic for friends, my aspiring mil sci-fi novel was stuck, and I needed some sort of escape… and I thought, “Well, I like sexy stories, and Literotica is free, and…”
My story was a feel-good adventure about a college guy with a heart of gold, a jaded demon weary of evil, and Heaven's hottest mess. It was silly. It was sexy. It was polyamorous, warm, and irreverent, and Literotica loved it: high ranking, tons of comments, and holy shit am I getting positive feedback from the internet?
So it became my first book:
Tumblr media
…and that book plugged some holes in my life. It didn’t get me out of subbing, but it filled the financial gap, and it picked me up after a break-up. More importantly, it gave me an audience. When I published Poor Man’s Fight, I already had readers, and that led to more readers… many of whom then picked up Good Intentions and loved that, too, though some had the shocking experience of “Oh my god, it’s full of butts!”
If you’ve read this far, it’s probably time for the content warning. I’m a big believer in these, for serious reasons and, um… less serious.
WARNING: “Good Intentions” contains violence, explicit sex, nudity, inappropriate use of church property, portrayals of beings divine and demonic bearing little or no resemblance to established religion or mythology, trespassing, bad language, sacrilege, blasphemy, attempted murder, arguable murder, divinely mandated murder, justifiable murder, filthy murder, sexual promiscuity, kidnapping, attempted rape (which is never comedy), immolation of said attempted rapists, persistent disrespect for vampires (which is always comedy), arson, dead animals, desecrated graves, gang activity, theft, assault and battery, panties, misuse of the 911 system, fantasy depictions of sorcery and witchcraft, multiple references to various matters of fandom, questionable interrogation tactics, cell phone abuse, reckless driving, even more explicit sexuality, illegal use of firearms within city limits, polyamory, abuse of authority, hit and run driving, destruction of private property, underage drinking, disturbances of the peace, disorderly conduct, internet harassment, bearers of false witness, mayhem, dismemberment, falsification of records, tax evasion, bad study habits, and an uncomfortably sexy mother.
…and that’s just the first book.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They've all got those warnings. Even the short story collections.
Credit to the incredible @leemoyer for all my book covers, and for teaching me so much about this biz. And while he's not on the book covers, I've gotta share the other central protagonist as illustrated by the awesome @juliedillon:
Tumblr media
...yeah, Alex gets into some shit.
If you're looking for protagonists who really communicate, if you want polyamory instead of love triangles, and if you hate when steamy scenes fade to black, I've got you covered.
If you’ve read this far and you’re interested, or even if you just want to see more content warnings, please give my stuff a look on Amazon (including Kindle Unlimited) or on Audible where they’re narrated by Tess Irondale. Give her a listen and you’d be happy to hear her read just about anything.

A Man's World - Now a Book <3 (Interested in a free copy?)
Hi! Wow, it has been WAY too long since I have been on Tumblr posting fics... and I miss it so much! A lot has happened since I've last been on, but I have a few fun updates.
"This Is A Man's World" is officially a book! (Launches October 6th!)
Man's World, my Carlos Sainz fanfic that I posted all last year, is now officially a book on kindle unlimited + kindle pre-sale (soft cover coming soon!)! I knew I loved the story so much that I wanted to post it somewhere, and finally my friends (and several of you!) convinced me to re-write the story with original content... and I finally did it.
So really this is a post to say two things...
THANK YOU. A million times over. All of your comments, likes and reblogs kept me going through some tough times last year – and I can't appreciate it enough. Your feedback and love of this story made my day over and over again, and words can't express how much I love this community. You guys just rock.
As a thank you from me... I would love to give you the new book! So, would you like an Advanced Reader Copy? I can't think of a better group of people to read the book, and I'd LOVE some feedback honestly! The bulk of the story is the same, but there's definitely a lot of fun updates. I've of course redone the names and teams, but the characters are the same... if not better <3
If you are interested in getting a copy, then send me a quick Tumblr message or an email @ [email protected] ! I'll happily email over a copy to you in kindle format or PDF, whatever you would like.
And if you're feeling wild enough to leave me a Goodreads or Amazon review (or a cheeky social post!), then this independent, indie author would eternally grateful!
A Man's World - Goodreads Link
If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can get the book for free HERE. (Pre-sale also available if interested!)
My Author Instagram -> Follow me for some fun Georgia/Luca (formerly Carlos... but still Carlos) memes, reels, videos+ my dog reviewing books. ;-)
----------
My second update is that now I am done Man's World (and that chapter is closed)... we can FINALLY get back to Lily's chapter. (And thank God caused I missed her.) Expect Hate To Love You Chapters to resume posting next week!

Claps hands “Everyone gather round”
Haven’t seen a to-do list in all this chaos so Here’s your rudimentary checklist on what to do now to save it:
If you haven't already make sure you hit the love/double-thumbs up button on Lockwood in netflix.
Keep posting, reblogging, reacting and commenting on ALL social media to keep Lockwood trending. (Tumblr, FB, Insta, Twitter, Reddit, even Pinterest) YOU want to get other streaming platforms to notice!!!
Keep watching Lockwood on Netflix in the background.
Request the show from Netflix.
Keep up with @charmquarkstrangequark group watch on May 20-21. Post about any other group watches.
Vote for Lockwood on this cancellations poll (currently in 4th at the time of this post). Vote, sign and post any other polls or petition.
For those who have made original posts (gifs, AMVs, Fanart, Fanficition or original thoughts) Make a Masterlist post so other’s can quickly find a post and reblog.
Reblogging is better than liking. Tumble is not a place where you dedicate you page to one thing. I cannot tell you how many times people have watch and joined a fandom based of gifs of that show.
Donate to the WGA strike fund!!! Want to really stick it to Netflix? This is the way. Last strike lasted 100 days! Writes are just as unhappy as us so help them fight the system. Also the longer the strikes goes, more desperate platforms will be to get new content which could turn heads to Complete Fiction as they are in the UK and not affected. You can also buy groceries for the strikers.
Stream the Soundtrack on you music platform in the background. Amazon Prime has it.
Buy the e-books!!! (amazon kindle)
Buy the paperbacks.
I think the best platform to pick it up would be amazon as they probably have seen an increase in sells on the E-book. Hulu/Disney+ is another option as Disney has publishing rights in the US. I don’t like the idea of HBO picking it up cause I think they would sexualize it too much.
Finally do not be toxic, threaten violence and be a bully. Go to your basement and get you feelings out on Joe and Esmerelda. But if you want to get business people to take you seriously do not actually sent them hate and threats. Politely explain that you are upset and may/will be canceling their services.
Sincerely, a veteran Young Justice and Clone Wars fan.
P.S. Just found out you can name a tribute in your WGA donation. My tribute is to First name: Lockwook Last Name: & co.

hi erm i dont know why im asking but what is all for the game? like ive seen alot about it and i really want to consume this piece of media but i also do not know what it is at all?? pls help
ah jeez. aftg is complicated yet the best thing that’s ever happened to me fandom-wise. worst thing to happen to me productivity-wise. first books called the foxhole court, then the Raven king, then the ravens men. there’s physical copies of the books, but i haven’t ever seen it sold at any bookstore ever, only off of Amazon, but the kindle prices are real cheap and you can find almost any book online free via questionable websites.
all for the game is a book trilogy centred around a runaway w loads of trauma, but he’s running away from his kinda mob boss dad—gasp— which may be off putting but it’s like you don’t think of it as a mafia book it’s just a book that has bad guys who happen to be the mafia. i don’t think that’s a spoiler.
it’s also centered around made up sport, but it doesn’t feel like it’s centered around to but it totally is. it also doesn’t feel made up? like it’s not fantasy it’s just not real.
its gay, which you probably know if you’ve seen any fan art, but it’s not really sweet gays it’s kinda course and gritty but absolutely lovely and heartwarming. but also I have hazy memory bc I read the trilogy in a week but im pretty sure that only gets started midway through the series, so it’s not the WHOLE plot but it’s like a portion of it. their relationship isn’t really problematic, it’s basically the opposite, and all the angst is in the plot and characters themselves rather than how they interact w each other.
speaking of, this trilogy covers A LOT of heavy heavy topics, I’d say what was most off putting for me was the past rape and pedophilia which is touched on pretty briefly but at the same time very largely, but im sure somewhere there’s a list of tws somewhere if youre at all concerned about that.
it’s a fun read! it’s not at all too long (i mean, you read the goldfinch, not at all on the same level as that regarding word count im pretty sure) and i hear it reads like a fanfic, which might be why i consumed it so fast. it has no fantasy or sci fi, its basically a novel or slice of life I guess. i don’t really know the proper terms. there’s action that comes in the form of some violence, but i think most action is really on the exy (made up sport) court. oh also im pretty sure there’s an on page bj and the like. but no sex.
if I knew you in physical life I wouldn’t rec you this bc a) u might read it and hate it and it would ruin me and embarrass me b) u might read it and find it mediocre and it would ruin me and embarrass me c) you don’t read it and I feel annoying and finally d) u love it and it ruins you.
anywho, I hope u have a fun day/night, idk your time zone, and happy reading/non reading/watching. Thank you for giving me a reason to rant about my little obsession on this random monday evening! hope this helped/was what you were looking for

Sending love to one of the best writers on ao3 😘💕 I check your page frequently and wanted to ask about the things that you enjoy doing or aspire to do
Hi Anon, it's so sweet of you to send this ask to ask after me. Rest assured your words are appreciated on this end; thank you from the bottom of my heart and top of my soul 🫂 I'm very glad you think highly of my work even after so long, and I'm so so sorry I haven't had any new content in such a long time. But I am hard at work on a oneshot that will definitely be published before the next chapter of Samarra, so the well won't stay dry for long! The summary is “A jaded prison nurse must come to rely on a man she hates and fears in the midst of a deadly prison riot.” I started writing it in the ward; it's based off of the Moundsville Penitentiary which is an especially spooky place I've been to–an old 19th century prison made of towering stone turrets, eerie high ceilings, and rusted iron cells packed together like pigsties. I'm hoping to get that atmosphere across; it's about ⅔ of the way finished so good progress is being made!
Well I enjoy writing, most of all, but I've already talked about that in detail a thousand times so I'll spare you. I love reading, of course (I just finished “The Five”, about the victims of Jack the Ripper, and it's a fascinating bit of history and an incredible and horrifying look at Victorian-era industrial Britain). I love exploring the mountains with my cats trotting along beside me and photographing what I find. In all honesty I'm a bit of a trappist–I rarely see people except hunters and cashiers, and most of my time is spent alone with myself or my dad. But each day is an adventure when you're in nature and each season brings primordial and beautiful changes– I collected watercress the other day and found the downy remains of a fawn.
I love watching old movies. My dad and I were watching Laurel and Hardy last night and I swear it holds up a century later. Before that we watched King Rat, which is one of his–and my–favorite movie; about two men stuck in a Japanese prison camp and the Machiavellian and underhanded ways they survive there. The book is particularly good too, and the epilogue about rats devouring each other has haunted my dreams for a long time.
On the same subject, a series that I highly recommend is called Tenko, which is very similar to King Rat, except the prisoners are women. It's so grueling, realistic and enrapturing; I've never seen anything that so squarely focuses on women's experiences, relationships with each other, the hardships they face, and how they struggle to survive together in a thankless, deprived environment. The backstabbing and despair that comes in their darkest moments, the love and support in which they uplift each other with, their mistrustful and uneven relationships with their captors that occasionally erupt in friendships and affairs–and all the episodes are on dailymotion, too!
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x74u4fi
I like dreaming most of all. So many of my story ideas come from my dreams. The worst thing in the world is waking up and trying to catch the stray strands of the dream slipping through your fingers. It's amazing to live so many lives–good or bad–inside your head. Sometimes when I wake up, I feel a sweeping, palpable sense of relief that I don't live in the world I conjured last night, and sometimes I wish I could just claw myself back into my brain and live in that little pocket world for the rest of my life.
I do not aspire to much. I don't really have any base wishes but to keep writing and live til 70. We all have our hopeful fantasies, of course, and when I finally do get Ragnatela on Amazon Kindle (Microsoft Word is trying to swindle me out of one hundred and fifty American dollars to use their dogshit platform, and since the manuscript is half-edited, I'm afraid to lose my formatting if I switched to a free program like Libreoffice) maybe it will get some attention.
I still intend on writing on Ao3 until the day I die, though. Even with its unsavory content I have such a soft spot for its unrestricted freedom of speech and prose. Plus I don't want to give up talking to you guys and goofing off in the comments ☹️ I also aspire to stop drinking. I'm sure I've already shaved a few years off my lifespan with my tippling habit. But when one day is much like the other, is there much point in extending it?
I aspire to travel around the United States more. I took a trip through the Deep South to visit Savannah and it was enrapturing; something I will remember for the rest of my life. Rusted-out cars felted in green moss, skinny, grazing horses in windswept fields, peeling roadside signs advertising tent revivals, clownish golliwogs behind still windows of cafes, forgotten tugboats half-sunken into lagoons, highway strip hotels where craggy hookers peered at you suspiciously from their fold-up chairs, and derelict cemeteries separated between Union and Confederate. It was just post-Irma and we were often the only tourists at any of these places. The effects of the hurricane were stark and obvious, with the land in a state of shock before any official agencies came to clean them up. I remember boats crashed into the harbor and grandfather trees felled in front of opulent antebellum homes, and the sea churned brown and murky when we trekked to the beach. The sense of desolation, and not only from the hurricane, was chilling–but I loved being there and loved being swathed by the kudzu and history. My mother is very ill and before she dies we might make up briefly and take a trip to New Orleans together and explore rural Louisiana; I'd always wanted to write a story set in New Orleans. Louisiana is a fascinating state with its mixture of Napoleonic and Creole influences; and I've always been drawn to the grand, decaying tombs of New Orleans as much as I have been to the odd Francophone swamps and their hidden dialects and traditions. And one day I would like to go way, way out west and explore the Gold Rush ghost towns. All the mines where I am are filled-in, so I would like to venture underneath the earth just once.
Most of all, I aspire to be alone, and live by myself for the rest of my life, far away from town, somewhere in the mountains like where I am now. I wish I didn't have to see another person for the rest of my life. Being alone with myself is bad enough, being with others is intolerable.
Anyways, I apologize for my undue pleonasm, you caught me in a chatty mood 😀 Here's an excerpt from the newest prison one-shot:
Rhoda had met Jesse Fitzner her first day on the job. It was midway through her shift, and she was taking a lunch break and grading her sister Sherise's homework in her office. The day had started with a white-knuckle ride in early morning mist so thick she couldn't see the taillights of the car in front of her. Midway through her preliminary tour of the prison, an inmate had stuffed his toilet full of socks, which promptly overflowed and leaked sewage out of the cell onto her high heels. The hoots and jeers had made her speed up, trying to avoid the leering eyes of her future patients. And her introduction to the mental ward, by a younger but just as pessimistic Fawna, had not lifted her mood any either.
So there she sat in her office, snatching a moment of calmness and frantically scribbling corrections over Sherise's homework before her sister turned it in tomorrow. And then the door swung open.
A blond man poked his head in and briefly raised his eyebrows. He was wearing the omnipresent, drab gray prison uniform, pants and a sweatshirt rolled up to his elbows. "What are you up to?"
She flipped the cover of the notebook over.
"Going over my sister's homework. Is there something you need?"
"Passing on a message to Nurse Judson. One of the inmates wants to switch his blood pressure medication."
"Oh, she'll be back soon. I think she's–doing something with the prisoners. Just give her a few minutes."
"No hurry." He pulled the chair opposite her and sat down in it. "So you're grading your kid sister's homework? Shouldn't she be doing that herself?"
The man had thick blond hair that stuck up in back like a duck's tail, and very rosy cheeks. He looked like he had just shaven, by the nicks on his neck.
"It's a long story. I should be–"
"I've got time. If this is your first day, you need to take some time to yourself to relax--else you'll end up in the infirmary."
Rhoda laughed. He had a nice smile and a nice manner about him–very jovial and friendly. It was refreshing to see a man who didn't stare at her like she was a piece of meat. "Well, my parents died when my brother and I were still young. Seth was seventeen, I was fifteen. He went to work so we didn't have to break up the family, and I stayed home to care for my little siblings, all three of them. It wasn't fun. I always wanted to do more for them than what I was stuck with, so I'm making sure they get good grades and go to good colleges. That's why I got this job in the first place, to put some back for their college funds."
"That's real decent of you. I don't know a single woman who would go so far for their family. You'd best be proud of yourself. Where's your brother now?"
"He's working out of state in Pennsylvania. He found a good woman and has a concrete contracting business now."
"You got yourself a man?"
"Never saw the need. Someday, maybe, when I'm lonelier."
"Working here for a few years will train that loneliness for a man right outta of you."
They both laughed at that, and Rhoda felt her tensed muscles begin to relax. "I didn't catch your name."
"Jesse Lee Fitzner." He reached across the desk to grip her hand. For being such a small-built man, he had a crushing handshake.
"Rhoda Ames. Pleased to make your acquaintance."
"I knew a few Ameses when I was on the outside. Where your folks from?"
"Beckworth, west of here."
"Oh, you're bullshitting me. I have folks from there too. You don't know a Harry Fitzner, do you?"
"Harry who used to run the car repair shop?"
"That's him! My uncle. He retired a few years ago. His lungs got to him. Too much time in the mines."
The door slammed open again. An elderly prison guard, who had greeted her rather abruptly upon her hiring and who had a hard and wrinkled face, was standing in the doorway. When he saw Jesse, his face grew harder. "What are you doing here, inmate?"
Jesse raised his hands, still not moving from where he was leaning back on the chair. "Just dropping off a message for Nurse Judson."
"Next time, leave the message with Nurse Ames and promptly return to your cell. There's no reason for you to be here actin' so friendly."
To Rhoda's mild disappointment, the guard grabbed Jesse by his arm and yanked him out, harder than he needed to. Before he was escorted out, Jesse tossed a glance over her shoulder and winked at her. "Rhoda, you're a young lady, and I'm a bit of a spring chicken myself. I think we would get along real well outside these walls."
Rhoda couldn't help the giggle that bubbled up from her throat. She felt lightheaded. She was a rangy and abrupt woman with a working tan, and hadn't much experience with men flirting with her.
When Jesse was marched out, Rhoda stood up and grabbed her peaked nurse's cap, girding her loins for the next shift on the ward. While she was counting medications, the elderly guard–Miles–came in again and shut the door behind him. She flinched, expecting a dressing-down on her first day of work. I wasn't fraternizing with the prisoner, was I? Am I… am I gonna lose my job?
He sat down opposite her. "You ever hear that tale 'bout the lady and the snake?"
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to–"
"Old story; old, old story. One of them Aesop stories they wrote when people was still in togas and carved words in stone. A woman was walking home one day when she saw a frozen snake lying on the side of the road. It begged her to save its poor little self, this little creature of God. So taking pity on it, the woman brought it home and warmed it by the fire between her breasts. And as it thawed, it bit her breast. 'Oh, why would you do such a thing? Your poison will kill me,’ she wailed. And the snake smiled and said, 'You knew I was a snake before you brought me into your house.'"
Rhoda stared at him, puzzled. "I don't understand."
"You know what that fellow did to get in here? Fitzner was top dog in a motorcycle gang outside of prison. A real nasty one. He ordered a contract killing on a rival gang member. They snatched the poor fellow when he was leaving a bar. Hung him from a tree, broke his legs with doublejack hammers, used him as target practice with their sawed-offs, cut his dick off and shoved it in his mouth, then left and let him choke on it and bleed to death for the rest of the night. He was out, too, far out in the mountains, and they only found him weeks later when a hunter stumbled on him. One of the killers snitched on Fitzner in exchange for dropping a drug felony sentence he was staring at. That snitch went into hiding and changed his name. Two days after Fitzner was taken to this good penitentiary, he was found with his head beaten in, in a dry creek bed."
Rhoda's head began to spin in slow whirls. Her hand where Jesse had shaken it grew very clammy. She remembered his bright smile across the desk, his dark eyes, and felt bile and vomit churn in her throat.
"You both were talking for a while, I noticed. He's good at prising information out of people, Fitzner is. A boyish smile and a few good words and he can make both men and women melt like butter on yer tongue. See? Now he knows who you are, and where your folks live. Now he can get to you."
Rhoda tried to talk, but her tongue was paralyzed. She looked down and wiped her sweaty hands on her knees.
Miles got up and went over to the door. He looked out of the window set on top, and his hard face relaxed. He seemed much older in that moment, more wrinkled and exhausted.
"You'd best be careful of him, Nurse Ames. He's a bad 'un. I'll be glad to see the back of him."
As it turned out, Miles retired later that year and it was Jesse who saw the back of him.
And Rhoda became very wary of him from then on. Whenever he saw her in the hall, in the chow line, in the infirmary, he smiled at her and tried to make small talk. She ignored him, or was curt with him.
Unfortunately, he seemed to take that as an invitation.

Still promoting my work. You can listen to this for free on YouTube or read it for free on DeviantART under CherokeeGal1975 in my Books and Illustrations folder. Or you can buy it on Amazon either as a paperback or Kindle ebook.
Yes, it's an mpreg, but only because I hate most of what I find in that genera, so I decided to try it myself and remove all the elements I didn't like. It was my experimental plot that became a novel.
Anyway, here's the synopsis:
Johnathan was a family man and cargo runner and had no interest in getting entangled in royal affairs. So, when a deposed and fleeing princess arranges a meeting to give him a package to keep safe, he was reluctant to take it. But she convinced him to hide the royal seal until she needed it back despite himself. Unknown to him, she had also tricked him into carrying another precious cargo.
When Johnathan learns of the trick, he’s furious. When he confronts the princess about it, he learns it’ll be impossible to return it before it’s appointed time. Then she tells him of an unbreakable bond between them and ends a long search for someone he had lost as a boy. So, instead of revenge, he does what he can to help her. He must also avoid capture; the King would execute Johnathan if he ever found out about his secret cargo.
Anyway, there's talking rat companions in very positive roles. A little girl that's also a dragon my main character adopted as his daughter after rescuing her from a gladiator stable. Gay werewolves are briefly mentioned...I wrote those in not knowing that's a popular theme in this genera. I went on a literary dumpster dive and it gave me some insight into the minds of the writers. Hated the stories, but used what I learned in my own work.
There's a princess who saves herself, but uses my main character to do it...out of desperation only. She's not evil at all. She later makes it up to him.
I've got a couple of chapter's of backstory. Two chapters that jump through time a bit as a way to keep the pace of the story up. I was mindful of that because in my first novel, I was told it was too slow.
My first novel is titled Eden Symbiotic by Meriah Smith and it's available on Amazon and on DeviantART. Since I'm aware that people aren't likely to buy my work...though I'd love that if you did, I'm so broke...I'm more about honest feedback and maybe constructive criticism. The more the better.

what’s the best way to purchase your books to ensure that you get the most available profits from it?
sincerely, a girl that wants to buy it, but hates giving money to amazon
Thank you sweetheart.
I will be honest in that Amazon is the only way to purchase it :(
I will be super transparent under the cut about prices/amazon/self-publishing as I didn't realise a lot of these things when I signed up to KDP. If anybody is interested in self-publishing this way or wants to ask questions, feel free.
This is all for The Story of Old: End
These are the price breakdowns for the ebook
Tumblr media
I selected the 70% royalty which means it costs me $0.09 to have the book delivered to somebody's e-reader but I make $2.74. If I selected the 35%, I wouldn't have to pay delivery costs but I make less money. This is typically selected by people who have lots of images/graphs etc and it would cost them a lot to pay for the delivery. Ebooks are the way I make the most money because the royalties are higher.
Now, for the paperback as this has to be listed as a different entity on KDP.
Tumblr media
The book is priced at $13.00 and I make $1.78 from it. The minimum I can put it up for is $10.03 because it costs just over $5 to have it printed so I wouldn't make anything from it. Amazon gives you 60% royalties which is actually a lot higher than traditional publishing (but I think with traditional contracts, you do get a lump sum stipend for writing, you don't have the costs involved with artists, formatting, editing, promotion etc).
I can also select "Expanded Distribution" which means my book is available on B&N and Waterstones, but my royalty rates drop to 40% because the book still has to be printed by amazon and shipped to them, so Amazon is essentially a middleman and takes the money I would have earnt to ship it to that store. I haven't selected it because I would earn a sum of zero. I get that people don't want to give Amazon money, but they would still print the book and it earn money even if you purchased it from B&N.
Onto Kindle Unlimited...
Yesterday, somebody read the entire copy of The Witch and The Monster and I earned a whopping 59p. This figure is estimated because the actual amount depends on how many people subscribe to kindle unlimited and how many pages are read across the whole system. Each month, the amount "per page" varies.
Also, if you read the same book more than once, we only get a payment for the first time you read it (so if you really love a book on KU, please consider just buying it).
Tumblr media
You have to meet certain thresholds on Amazon then you get a payment. On the US Amazon site, I think you need to earn around $100 before you get your payment - it's not like somebody buys my book and I get $2.74 straight into my bank. So, if somebody in Germany reads my book - that's amazing! - but I won't "have" that money until more people in Germany read it and I hit the threshold in that market, e.g. one person in France has a copy of my book, but I won't get that money until I earn €100 from the French Amazon site. (Bonjour if it's you).
Many people do go down the self-publishing route but there are many expenses involved:
I've paid the same artist to do the covers for The Witch and The Monster as well as The Healer and The Alpha (I did the Old ones, that's why they're bad lmao). I'm proud not to use AI. I've also commissioned two other artists to make fan art because we all have to support each other.
I also pay for a proof copy of the paperback to come so it can be checked for errors. I had the page/margin size wrong a couple of times, so I had to order more proofs.
I also then wanted a finished copy which doesn't have PROOF over it for my bookshelf but I only have to pay the raw printing costs.
I could order author copies because I just pay the price to print them and then sell them at local fairs etc, but I can't take them to local book shops due to the amazon isbn.
I've paid a little bit of money for marketing on facebook/instagram/amazon which I don't think really had any effect.
I've done giveaways which cost me money and didn't reach a massive audience.
I post a lot on facebook/reddit/instagram/twitter which is free but does it have much of an effect? Probably minimal.
I have also utilised the amazon book promotion where I can offer the book for free for a limited time and I had massive numbers of downloads but not really any reviews as a result so people must just like free things.
I also used Booksirens (which is similar to netgalley) and had a lot of clicks but I wouldn't use it again. 2 of the readers they found never posted a review so I'm owed credits (because I essentially had to pay every time somebody downloaded my book and they didn't fulfil their end of the deal) which I can't use unless I pay again for a book to be hosted.
All of this is to say that self-publishing isn't "easier" than traditional publishing. There is so much competition and you are fighting to be seen. Amazon is the only avenue that I have right now to have my books published, but I completely understand if you do not want to give your money to them. I love writing. I love creating. If I was doing this for money, I would have quit. Whatever you decide, thank you for wanting to read it <3

Question:
Am I going to be able to buy a physical book or is it just going to be online to read? I’m desperate to read this story, The Lost Boys is everything I’ve wanted a book like this about for years, but I hate reading on a kindle. I need a physical book unless reading fanfic and even then I love printing them out to read🤣
I’m so excited to read this, it sounds so fucking good! I can’t believe someone is actually making a book like this! One more reason to be excited for Halloween🥰🥰
hiya,
Paperbacks will be available on release day because of Amazon’s policies and then not allowing paperback pre-orders (it’s been an ongoing explanation to all my interested readers).
I actually got my manuscript back yesterday so now it’s time to apply the last round of edits :)

Can you recommend a good ebook reader for pc and android? I'm bedridden and bored out of my skull most of the time and recently decided to get a digital library card, but I don't actually do much reading outside of ao3 and you seem pretty knowledgeable on book stuff, and it would be cool to have something where I could maybe swap between reading from my laptop in bed to reading from my phone while I'm at my doctor, and be able to pick up where I left off, if possible. If not, still anything easy to use on my computer and phone would be great!
libby works great for library cards! you install the libby app on your phone, and while there are apps for your computer, i usually just log in to libbyapp.com. it automatically syncs your location between all your devices. it works with any library that uses Overdrive for ebooks and audiobooks (which in the USA afaik is most of them)
if you want to use your own epubs, the easiest way (as in, doesn't involve calibre and calibre companion and cloud storage etc etc) is to go to play.google.com/books and upload the epub there, then you can read it in the browser or on your phone in the google play books app and it will all sync up. however if you hate google that could be a problem.
here's my referral link for a two month free trial of scribd: https://www.scribd.com/g/200fnv just like the others, you can read in a browser or a mobile app, and there are SO MANY BOOKS (just note that audiobooks aren't actually unlimited, i've hit the monthly cap a few times)
kobo.com has mobile and desktop apps, i haven't used it much but i assume it should sync pretty well. however that's going to be all books you've purchased, and its primary advantage as far as i can tell is not being amazon. i've heard their e-readers are pretty good.
if you aren't morally opposed, kindle apps are basically all about syncing. i have an old version of the kindle app on my computer so that i can crack the drm on all my books, but you can also just use read.amazon.com to read all your kindle books in a browser (i do this at work). and, honestly, no one else as far as i can tell has matched whispersync functionality when it comes to syncing your reading location between an ebook and an audiobook. i have LOOKED. i would LOVE an alternative to whispersync. i don't have many kindle books with matched audiobooks (sometimes i find deals using matchmaker) but when i had a kindle unlimited trial being able to seamlessly switch between reading the text and listening to the audiobook was so fucking nice. i know amazon sucks and i know the library is better (and i DO use the library as well as buying, so many goddamn books) but a lot of self-pub authors distribute exclusively through kindle unlimited and i'm not going to pretend it doesn't bring useful functionality to the table.
if anyone else is weak for free trials i want bezos money so here's an affiliate link for a kindle unlimited trial: https://amzn.to/39g7ehd
but using your local library card with libby is obviously cheaper and better long-term, and you can get a lot out of the scribd free trial if you're reading a lot

Now... without further ado... your preview to Chapter 6!
Find chapter 5 is HERE to get up to date on the story!
“Georgia… I feel like the pre-season debrief can wait until we’re back at the office, hmm?”
“Lily, I need you to come to my room, now. Floor 15, room 1568.” There was urgency in her voice, urgency and something else, something that sounded like panic.
“… Now as in… now now?”
“See you in five.” Before I could protest, Georgia hung up the phone. I looked at the clock - 8:10 a.m., which meant the hallways would be fairly empty. I threw on some clothes and made my way up to Georgia’s floor, which was of course much higher up than mine.
No expense spared when it comes to Ferrari and their drivers, I scoffed to myself. The Mercedes F1 team was known for its cost savings when it came to hotels and drivers. Lewis used to always complain that as a 7x World Champion, he was lucky to get a suite when it came to Toto and Mercedes’ purse strings.
I headed straight to the room that Georgia had texted me and knocked on the door. It was as if Georgia had been standing there waiting for me, because she opened it on the second knock, causing me to fall forward, only catching myself on the coat rack that had been placed right next to the door.
“Jesus, Georgie…” I grunted, shaking off the small moment of shock as I walked into the room. Seated on the couch was her fiance Carlos Sainz, who just nodded my way as he kept his eyes on the TV, glued to the Real Madrid game going on in the background.
Georgia motioned for me to take a seat, which I obliged as Carlos immediately lowered the volume of the television, finally turning to face me and Georgia. As soon as Carlos looked at me, I felt dread take over my entire body. Carlos was always so happy-go-lucky – likened him to a golden retriever, barely anything got him down, but the solemn nature of his face told me exactly why I was here.
“So is someone going to tell me what is goijng on?” I asked, breaking the awkward silence that had settled between the three of us. I could see that Georgia was trying to find her words.
“So… after the pre-season party last night, what did you do?” Georgia finally asked and I frowned, giving her a pointed look to let her know that I wasn’t thrilled with her nosy question.
“Not really any of your business…” I scoffed at my ex-teammate, but I knew my cheeks had gone slightly red. I wasn’t sure what she had heard, but I wasn’t about to admit that I had slept with her brother last night.
“Well it seems like it IS my business now,” Georgia quipped, and I couldn’t hide the shock on my face.
“… just fucking spit it out Georgia.”
“Lily, I don’t care if you and Charles are fucking. I don’t care that you and Pierre are fucking. I don’t care if you sleep with the whole fucking grid…” Georgia’s words started to slice through me.
So she did know that I had slept with her ex-boyfriend Pierre. Guess I wasn’t as discreet as I had hoped.
Before I could get a word in, Georgia continued, “… but what I do care about, is your reputation. As only one of two women on the grid, you know what is at stake. I fucking hate that the entire world looks at us under a microscope. The world shouldn’t care about who a woman sleeps with, and its none of their business… but that just isn’t the case. What we do is and for the forseeable future will be looked at through a looking glass. Am I making any sense to you?”

I feel so silly I've been posting art online for years and I don't think I ever made one of these 😂 in all honesty though? I think a lot of it has to do with thinking people I already talk to know so it'd be irritating them to repeat it, but they really don't know so when they're surprised so am I. But yeah, if there's something you want to know, you're always welcome to ask!
Some random stuff about me:
⭐ Because I work from home my outfits are tank tops and lounge pants (I got those from Amazon and they are *chef's kiss*. That "kimono" from Hot Topic really does drop that low - I'm 5'2" and it looks ridiculous but I love it.
⭐ Copper compression gloves are wonderful.
⭐ I've got a pizza sauce recipe that's like our cheeseball recipe; the longer it sits the hotter it gets. I have no self-control with hot peppers and sauces and one day my stomach will have a hole burned through it because of this 🤣
⭐ I can and will blow through art pencils and micron pens, but I'll also hang onto the tiniest nubs and nearly-dry pens because I am terrible about buying more. I'd buy larger sets of what I use the most, but uh...*sticker shock*
⭐ I prefer physical books, but if it's an author I'm unsure of, I'll try the ebook first. I play Plants vs Zombies 2 more on the kindle than I do read.
⭐ Either I have some green witch magic or I've got mislabled seeds, but since I've started gardening I've managed to grow 4 foot tall dwarf variety marigolds.
⭐ Hated Halloween Kills. Very disappointed in it. I think the setup for 13 Ghosts would make a really freaking cool haunted attraction.
⭐ I love playing Mario Kart Tour, but it's not the same as when I could do online multiplayer in Mario Kart Wii. Up for sharing my friend code if you want to kick my ass lol
⭐ When I say I enjoy anime, I used to enjoy a large range, but since I've gotten older I've learned I just don't care for a lot of newer stories. But I have binged Azumanga Daioh, Bastard!!, Full Metal Panic, and Crayon Shin-chan multiple times.
⭐ I'm fairly sure winter, art block, and imposter syndrome meet up in skinny jeans, UGG boots, and pumpkin spice lattes for brunch every year.
⭐ One more that I forgot when I posted this a couple weeks back on patreon, I have a small Bath and Body Works addiction. Really love the Fairytale and Into the Night scents especially.

Now that the month is winding down, I will finally have time to update the Queer Book Directory! I have found a lot of amazing books to add thanks to a new server I have joined, but I specifically want to yell at you guys about @marsadler's book First Creation that is coming out this week!
Tumblr media
First Creation is a love letter to fallen angels, rediscovering religion in a way that works for you, queer rage, and hunger of all kinds.
SUMMARY
Amitiel, an angel of God, and Stolas, a fallen angel-turned-spy, should be enemies. However, after they uncover a shocking secret that drives them to desert, they go on the run together in modern-day America. Both are injured, and it’s only by chance that they stumble upon a long-abandoned church. Ensconced in the alluring, stifling church with a forgotten cemetery and too many peach trees, they finally have time to heal. They also have time to think and plan, which is as much a blessing as it is a curse. Amitiel must come to terms with his strange hunger and forbidden desires, while Stolas plans their next move. They both grapple with the knowledge of where their food rations came from, and that something is very wrong in the heart of Heaven itself. God has vanished, and if he isn't giving the orders, who is condoning the atrocities the angels commit in the name of winning?
TWs (taken straight from mars' site)
death, murder, blood and graphic gore, graphic cannibalism, war, food rationing and mentions of starvation, manipulation, blood drinking (in a sexual situation), explicit sexual content
WHERE TO OBTAIN
Amazon (Kindle Edition)
There will be more, they mentioned uploading it to itchio at one point as well as potentially having paperbacks! So I'll update with those links when they are available
MARS ADLER
mars is an amazing friend and lovely part of the writing community, they have been incredibly supportive of me on discord, twitter, and instagram. it's actually why I'm making this post, their twitter was suspended just a few days before the release of this novella. That's kinda fucked and they deserve to have love showered on their work.
I will be reading this and reviewing it as soon as I can after it is released. Right now, I am reading The Sun & The Star and Junker 7, both of which I need to review and add to the QBD. I also need to move the QBD off of tumblr since there have been rumors of staff removing custom themes (boooo i hate). It will still be the same link and the same way to find it (through my page or at this link), but it will be hosted off site that way we don't loose it.
ANYWAYS, check out this book! I have very high hopes for it, everyone who has beta read it is screaming about how amazing it is. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

FAQs
Just kinda compiling all of these.
Do Patreon supporters get early access to your fanfics, fanfic snippets, fanfic BTS, etc? Nope, Patreon is for original works only. If you like my fanfic and want to support me but don't care about my original work, you can sign up for the $3 tier.
Hey, aren't you... Yes, I am @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels but I try to keep this tumblr strictly for posts about my original novels, including answering questions. I will also sometimes reblog fun stuff. For fandom, go to my other tumblr. It's where I'm more active anyway.
Why do you have two separate accounts? I like to be organized, and the idea of mixing 'fandom' with 'professional' too much makes me uncomfortable.
Is your real name Lincoln? It's real in all ways that matter.
What are your pronouns? She/her and they/them. My gender is none of my business.
What is your publishing schedule? I'm alternating posting standalones and series installments and hope to publish two books a year. So Pestilence is in September, then a standalone in December, and the next book will be War, then the book after that will be a standalone, etc.
Do you do sales? Yes, I do sales periodically, in conjunction with the release of a new book and at the end of the year.
Why do you only share pictures of your cats on Patreon? I'm a very private person and would like to limit glimpses into my personal life. I love sharing my babies but also want to manage my anxiety and trust issues in a way that is healthy for me.
Will you do audiobooks? I'd like to! It's a priority of mine for sure. I'm currently researching performers to find the best fit for each book, and I want to make sure I have the funds to properly compensate them. I'll announce it here once things are locked in.
How do you build an audience? I don't know. I wrote some fanfics in two popular fandoms right before they exploded in size, and kept writing for fun. I didn't plan anything. It was basically "right place right time."
How do you... This post gave me all the starting tools I needed to self publish. I cannot credit @thebibliosphere enough because following her tumblr and learning from her posts was beyond beneficial. I never would've had the courage to self-publish if I didn't see her do it first, and be open and generous with her knowledge.
How many books are you working on/do you have planned? The Horsemen Quartet, a trilogy, and five standalones.
What is A Masque of Shadows? That is my magical murder mystery novel, which takes place in a fantasy version of Venice, Italy, and is Game of Thrones meets Murder on the Orient Express starring the grumpiest detective, his spymaster bestie, and various murderous women who can step on me. It's being posted chapter by chapter on my Patreon for subscribers, and will be published in full in e-book and paperback when it's finished with revisions (i.e. my copy editors rip it to shreds).
What about the fanfic? I have not abandoned my fanfiction. That will continue to be free. In fact I hope between book sales and Patreon that I'll have more time for it.
Is there smut in your novels? There might be in the last Horsemen novel. There isn't any planned for the others.
Are you [insert sexuality/gender/mental illness etc here]? I am not obligated to share any of my personal info. I have sensitivity readers who have kindly agreed to be compensated for reading my novels for areas that either don't draw on personal experience, or do but still deal with a subject I'd like a second opinion on.
I only want to read your fanfiction. Good for you. It's on Ao3.
Why do you use Amazon, which is of the devil? Because there is no ethical consumption under capitalism and too many people use Amazon and Kindle for me to eliminate the payday it provides me. "You can have your principles when you've got a belly full."
I hate Amazon, how do I best support you? You are in good company, I also hate them. My Payhip is the best way. However if you do use Amazon please leave a review! Treat it like an Ao3 comment. I want to see keysmashes.
Can I do fanart/write fanfic of your novels? Have at it! I would be very flattered to see any fanart you do. For fanfic please do NOT under ANY circumstances tag me in it or send it to me or gift it to me on Ao3. It's for legal reasons.
Are you on [insert social media site here]? No. Tumblr is my only social media site. If that changes, I'll let you know.
Why jackals? I shamelessly stole the idea from Seth Myers. Back in the heyday of the pandemic when he was doing online-only videos, he joked about how no matter how pedantic the correction, his viewers would faithfully type "with [their] little jackal paws" into the comment section to set him straight. He made more jokes in videos after that affectionately referring to his viewers as jackals, and it made me laugh so hard I decided to use it for my own.

Made my scifi trilogy free for christmas
Tumblr media
Hey party people, you and I both know that 1) it's christmastimes, 2) sometimes gifts are hard, 3) free stuff is cool, and 4) reading is radical. Right?
Right! That's why I've made the Kindle versions of my science fiction trilogy totally free up through christmas eve. Yes, you heard me, or interpreted the words I wrote as a voice in your head, you can get three entire books for the low low price of zero US dollars (aka zero GBP, JPY, CAN, EUR, AUD, and many others)!
By clicking a small number of buttons, you can have Under, Beyond, and From Strange Stars all delivered straight to your rectangular electronic device of choice, and if that device can read Kindle ebook files, it can even open them!
The Strange Stars trilogy is one of science fiction adventure, new planets, cool aliens, and a healthy dose of optimism for our upcoming future.
So if you, a loved one, an acquaintance, a hated one, someone you're generally friendly with but don't really hang out hang out with, an exiled family member, or even a particularly intelligent bird are looking for up to three new books to read, try these!
Even if you're only passingly interested right now, why not grab them anyway so you don't have to wait another year for me to do this again?

Well, cheers!
Tumblr media
Made myself a kiwi-aloe-pomegranate juice cocktail to celebrate 😆 Doesn't taste as disgusting as it looks lol.
Book description:
"When the Periwinkles Wilt is a beautiful and insightful exploration of emotion and love. It deals with complicated feelings and not always knowing exactly what to do or how to feel."
"...a constant echo of internal melodrama and domestic misery. The friction between serenity and chaos, love and longing- living under the burden of humanity’s collective moral ambiguity."
I think most of you will agree when I say “Life is a rollercoaster ride”. And I really like this analogy. In life, there are ups and downs. It’s calm when the rollercoaster goes up but when it goes down again, it scares the hell out of you. Then next time when you go uphill, the thoughts of the inevitable downfall haunt you. Life is pretty much the same.
Eventually, you start to hate the high and prefer to stay in the low, because it hurts more to fall from higher ground.
This book is about the low, not the high. It contains poems and short stories related to various themes like depression, peer and parental pressure, rejection, self-hate etc., though at first glance they might all seem like heartbreak poems (not that there’s a dearth of them here... ). Love, friendship and relationships are the main foci of this book. The writings are divided into six separate categories just to organise them and make them easier for you to navigate.  I’ve always wanted to compile something of this sort since the time I published my first poetry anthology ‘These were not for you’ under a pseudonym. Why did I use a pen name back then? And why am I publishing these in my name? Well, I don’t have a definite answer to that. Maybe because I’ve since come to accept these thoughts and emotions. I’ve learned not to be ashamed of the ‘low’. There’s certain calmness in these melancholic themes and a lesson of stoicism. Bad days will come, there’s no avoiding them. But what matters is how you deal with them and even more important, what you learn from the experience.
Not all relationships work out, not all friends stay, not all ventures lead you to success, but that's obvious, isn't it? Happiness is fleeting, and once it’s gone, all you’ll be left with is that same feeling of destitution. But we must learn to accept it. Running away will not solve the problem. I’ve had friends who took to addictive means to escape this reality, I’ve seen people talk of death as if it were a saviour; I’ve also known some of the most optimistic and light-hearted personalities in my short lifespan on this planet. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t spend enough days locked up in my room, crying my eyes out or seeking to ‘escape’. Though my forms of escapism were much milder: books, poetry, the internet, music...
The aim of this book is not to give you false hope. I won’t say crap like, “everything will be okay, give it some time” or “it’s okay not to be okay”. Everything might not be okay and I know it sucks not to be okay. What I want you to do, my reader is to accept. Accept the bad, ‘cause it is inevitable. Just learn to live through it, smile through it. You’ve come this far, my friend, you can do it. I believe in you and I want you to believe in yourself. And maybe these few poems and stories will give you some solace when the times are bad.
Hope you will enjoy my amateurish works, and I wish you all the very best in life.

20 books and 8000 pages are even revised upward from 12 books and 5000 pages (because that has proven to be an attainable year-long reading goal lately). It is hard to overstate how much getting a kindle, as against supporting Amazon as I am, has broken me out of an almost decade-long reading slump. I love reading. I have so many books that I want to read. So many more are coming out or have come out that I want to read.
And yes, absolutely grad school had taken a toll on my reading enthusiasm, but mainly insomnia did (because even now, unmedicated, I will read for hours and hours and hours without getting tired, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s paper or screen, or whether it’s a textbook or a user manual or something interesting—while before I would read a chapter or two and be tired enough to turn out the light and go to sleep. Idk.).
I mean look at this for this year (kindle was bought in mid June):

And like literally A DECADE. I haven’t read this much since 2014.

This app, StoryGraph, was appealing to me because it had a bunch of reading challenges (that actually had prompts that were interesting/doable to me), which other people swore by for getting out of reading slumps. I signed up for a bunch that I was like “you know what, I’m just gonna see how far I get, that’s all” and now you know what, if I read a book with a yellow cover soon, I’ll actually finish one. By the end of the year I’ll actually get pretty close to finishing the most ambitious one I signed up for that had sixty different prompts.
And I hate that I can attribute it to this, but thanks to the kindle… I am reading more. Thanks to looking up reviews to see which kindle I should get, I’m following a bunch of book people on YouTube, who have now let me allow myself to go into bookstores and buy books sometimes, and those books get read (like today, I read 350/400 pages of HOME BEFORE DARK—not on the kindle, but an actual real book).
Just. Wow. I’m really glad to have this hobby back. Idk what it is about it, but thanks kindle, this is really truly amazing.
