Wild Kratts: Our Blue and Green World Trailer.
Underneath the cut for those who consider it to be spoilery, but we have a trailer for the one-hour special, Our Blue and Green World, airing April 1st, 2024.
The Kratt brothers disagree on what's better; blue oceans or green forests. Aviva takes on the role of referee to demonstrate how oceans and forests work together to make our living planet, just like Martin and Chris need to keep working together. It's up to the gang to get Martin and Chris back in sync in time to save planet Earth from Zach and Paisley's villainous plans.
This special was first mentioned back in May of 2023 during an interview with Martin Kratt heralding the show's premiere of its 7th season. The original title was Blue and Green: The Living Earth before it was chaned to our Blue and Green World. The episode will feature climates and habitats corresponding with the Kratt's "blue and green." With it, will come the introduction of new Creature Power Suits: The ones we have seen thus far in the trailer are Indri Power, Green Anaconda Power, and Blue Whale Power.
My thoughts:
HOLY SHIT THE BLUE WHALE SUIT
HOLY SHIT THE BLUE WHALE SUIT
HOLY SHIT THE BLUE WHALE SUIT
Tumblr media
*calms down.*
Ok but I'm starting to see a weird pattern in the PowerSuits in this season. For some strange reason, they have to retrofit the wearer's mouths to match the ACTUAL anatomy of the animal the suit is based off of. They did it with the Wild Pony and the Mountain Goat Power Suit and both of them were.... ugh. Now they did it with the Blue Whale Suit and to be fair, while I hate that particular feature, it's not enough to make me hate the suit. In fact, I kinda like it more because of how silly it looks (Martin is the perfect person to wear this suit tbh). Still though, I wish they designed it like the Crocodile, Hippo, or Puffin Suit where the giant mouth is simply an attachment that doesn't move while the wearer speaks.
Tumblr media
For those who don't know, Indris are the largest species of lemur in the world (alongside Diademed Sifakas). They are the only animals besides humans that can find and use rhythm using "wailing songs" to communicate. They're also critically endangered due to slash and burn of their habitats and poaching for their flesh as delicacies (yeah, very odd that Gourmand isn't here, but I digress). There's an estimate to be less than 10,000 left in the wild and are expected to have a population net decrease by 80% within the next 30 years... yeah, considering that they're endemic to Madagascar, not a very good sign. I didn't even know what an Indri was until reading the article, and if I'm not the only one who had no clue about these guys, it's probably definitely a good sign that they're getting some spotlight in this show.
The Indri Power Suit looks so goofy, but again, something about how silly it looks just makes me appreciate it all the more. I... weirdly expected it to be way bigger like the Puffin Suit, but again that's just me.
Tumblr media
I am a huge fan of how they designed the snake-inspired Creature Power Suits in the show. But the Anaconda Creature Power Suit... holy shit.
Tumblr media
LOOK AT IT /POS
Look at the markings! Look at the green! Look at the patterns, and the color schemes! Chris FINALLY got a green Creature Power Suit to activate! Our boi won! It's also a pretty clever callback to the Amazon special where Chris met the Anaconda (I really hope the Power Disc for this suit is green because god that would be so aesthetically pleasing).
Ngl, if the old flash games were still on the website, and this was one of the Power Suits I could earn for my character, I'd play it in a heart-beat.
I'm really interested to see the Zach/Paisley team up. This season already started to utilize her better by giving her another solo appearance, and now we're seeing a 1 on 1 team up with her and another villain. I was always gunning for a Paisley/Donita teamup but this works too. They're both very similar characters that can bounce off each other in similar, yet different ways (I actually headcanon that they're related - second cousins to be exact - because of those similarities). The final battle is gonna be kickass.
Tumblr media
If you were to tell me without any context at all that this was a screencap from the upcoming WK feature film (that this episode is often mistaken for), I would believe you. Because HOLY SHIT! The linework, the lighting, the hues, AND the shading! I am becoming more and more grateful for the 2-year long hiatus - the animators needed time to cook and they fucking COOKED. For an extended TV episode, this is pretty damn impressive.
People don't talk enough about this, but fun-fact: A lot of the animators of this show had experience working for Disney. Erika Worthylake was one of the artists on this show, doing several beta designs for animals such as wild ponies and salmon sharks. In 2019, she was the lead designer for Anga, one of the new characters in Disney's The Lion Guard (which, much like Wild Kratts, was animated in Toon Boom). Ben Balistreri had collaberated with the Kratt Brothers and Luc Chamberland in 2007 to work on the show's pilot episode, creating several different designs for the animated characters. Ten years later, he became the executive co-producer of Tangled: The Series. Kendal Brouet, who animated A Creature Christmas, worked on The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder in 2022. Just to name a few. It's just a fun little thing that comes up in the back of my mind whenever the topic of WK animation comes up, and this instance of animation is so fucking good that I HAVE to talk about it, because I have MAJOR respect for these guys, and if there were ever moments in the show that remind me "Oh, this slaps," I just remember what these talented artists worked on through the years and it clicks together nicely in my brain.
Tumblr media
According to Whrokids, this episode is gonna have a runtime of 58 minutes. I found this screenshot of someone who did far more searching and sleuthing for new episode content (they were the ones who found this trailer actually). I'm not sure how valid this particular screenshot is, but if this is the case, then this will be the longest episode of Wild Kratts in history, and will be the closest thing we get to a Wild Kratts movie (until the actual WK movie is released in theaters).
Fucking. Hyped.

   I have a lovely cedar chest that my great-uncle made for my mom or my grandmother. Well-made furniture, my beloved. It’s functionally immortal. It had to be refinished in the 80s, but aside from that - pristine condition. And it’s filled with problems.
   I started quilting as a teen, and I just figured things out as I went along. If I’d had someone teaching me, they might have given me good advice like “Don’t put vintage fabrics in an item that’s meant for daily use” or “ONLY use cotton batting if you intend to quilt very heavily, because if you leave much room between the lines of quilting the batting will pull apart” or even “You need to know about mitered corners!”
   So I have several beautiful quilts that are falling apart one way or another because of things I didn’t know. It’s a shame. I also have one spectacular crazy-quilt top that I made as a gift, never actually quilted, and realized later that because of poor fabric choices it would never do as an actual bed covering. It would have to be for display only.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was, um, bonkers for satiny and silky fabrics back then, and saw no problem with mixing them with every other type of fabric. It’s either magnificent or appalling, depending on your personal taste.
   I’d like to quilt again, maybe in a few years when I’m less overloaded. There’s one modern-style quilt I’d love to try made with uneven strip of fabric. I saw it once, loved it, and now cannot remember the name of the pattern or find ANY reference to it online. So, for anyone who might know:
Tumblr media
It starts with strips of fabric in different widths. When you get all the strips sewed together, you then cut uneven strips the other direction (showed by the arrows). Offset those from each other by and inch or two, then re-sew them. (a simplified explanation, but you get the jist). It gives a neat, zig-zag appearance. Anyone have a name for this? I know how to piece it, but I could use some guidance on how much fabric to buy to begin.

I finished the 87 series as a whole (except the European vacay season like I can't find it anywhere) and want to cry!!! My boys!!! I can't believe it's done!!!
What an awesome show. I might have to rewatch it just to write down more notes and thoughts. ;)
Anyways here's some headcanons about my sweet 87 boys and some show observations:
Hopefully with this people might give the show a chance. It's so delightful and charming. You won't be disappointed.
🐢🧡🐢💜🐢♥️🐢💙
The turtles are all basically 3-4 years old. They make tons of comments about living half their lives in a fish bowl and when Yoshi comes across them they're still babies. When they're shown mutating, they go from baby turtles to the older bipedal forms we know them by.
They're all identical sans their voices. (In the 87 show not only does April have trouble telling them apart at the beginning but so do the animators in every episode)
They all seem to possess super strength and some levels of invulnerability. Donatello in particular had a multiple story brick building dropped on him, which he just walked off. They've all shown varying skills such as bending metal with their bare hands. Raphael as a practical joke in one episode picks up a couch and hurls it at Donatello just to be smartass. Leonardo cuts metal like tinfoil.
They still think of themselves as turtles first and foremost, so they don't refer to each other as brothers. (despite the fact they're totally brothers) and simply address each other as friends. (They're brothers tho we all know the truth 💕)
Something not explained in the opening of the 3rd season, the turtles as babies, before they mutate, are shown with different shell patterns. While it's not obvious which turtle is which it is neat the artists went out of their way to animate each turtle with a unique pattern.
When you watch the show the amount of people and mutants that dislike the turtles is shocking. For a fun kids show made in the late 80's to mid 90's, it's basically a huge allegory to the civil rights movements and you can even take relevance to human rights movements of today.
Despite being so lovable they have only a small circle of friends. Most of those friends at some point have betrayed them too.
The boys have seen two different futures of themselves. (not counting their shared apocalypse nightmares) The first future is where they get old together in a mansion and they're heralded as heroes and everyone likes them. The second future doesn't show them but in the second future it's stated being a mutant is a crime punishable by death and all mutants are criminals regardless of deeds. This is before the red skies studio era of writing. That's before it's supposed to get edgy.
They all are highly intelligent. They can each pilot every vehicle ever present in the show despite none of them having a formal education, license, or understanding of the rules of the road. Michelangelo in particular seems to have a knack for US fighter jets.
In season 7 episode 11, titled "Dirk Savage: Mutant Hunter!" We meet two new mutants named Rahzar and Tokka. They're a gay couple. You don't believe me? Go watch the episode. I'm not pulling your leg. I swear. I promise. It's a good episode go watch it.
Master Splinter calls them his sons. He also calls Carter, his newest student, son occasionally too. It's his term of endearment.
The turtles in this version are known to get sick pretty regularly. (probably because of their still developing immune systems). They always get sick as a group and they totally soak up the pampering.
They in the first season share a 4 stack bunk bed and then after the bunk is destroyed in the season 1 finale they each get their own alcoves which they treat as their own rooms.
I didn't remember which Punk Frog said it, but one of them called Leonard and Michelangelo his Bubba which is a term of endearment for brother. The punk frogs call each other bubba too. So unlike the turtles they were either all frog brothers who mutated together or after mutating they just decided they're brothers and they also adopted the turtles as their brothers too.
Mondo Gecko seems older in this series because of his appearance but he's the same age as the turtles and actually mutated from the same ooze as them on the same day at the same time so he in 87 is like a mix of their brother and cousin? He's related regardless. (We all know the truth in our hearts)
Shredder and Krang act like a married couple who've been married too long and are on the cusp of a divorce but they've been together too long so they just keep tolerating eachother.
They all love the unhinged gross unholy pizza combos. Michaelangelo's stated combos are actually tame compared to some of the things they've eaten. One episode the boys committed to the bit so hard they ate lit candles just to mess with Michelangelo. They get pregnant sardine fudge pizza cravings at midnight. They put cereal on regular pizza for breakfast. They hate vegetables though. They literally gag when Splinter eats sushi. They refuse to eat bugs despite their turtle origins (interesting enough the Punk Frogs don't even like pizza at all first unlike them) but like they will eat out of the garbage. But not fresh handmade sushi.
They're so casual about being in public. Like they have disguises but sometimes they just go out in public as themselves. They also have so many elaborate disguises. In the first episode their first instinct to blend in was to throw on bright neon shoes, various bomber jackets, and start publicly beatboxing and breakdancing.
The turtles get called slurs by Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady. The slur in question is "Shellback" . When Donatello makes an evil clone the first thing the clone does is call him that slur. It's so funny like that's yourself. Donatello basically called himself ugly. Why is that so funny.
Shredders go to threat in the show and many other villains go to insult is to straight up threaten to eat them. Like, do none of the villains care about getting salmonella? Why do all the villains want to eat them?
Something I've noticed, they refuse to use nicknames. They only use each other's full names. It makes me wonder why? I theorize it's probably to do with the fact Master Splinter gave them their names and that's the first thing they received? It's not like they're not playful enough to use nicknames.
Despite his fatherly role in their lives, the turtle boys don't call Splinter their father and this is more than likely to do with the fact they see themselves as turtles and know they have turtle parents. (Again we know the truth)
April in this show is an adrenaline junky. She's also a child endangerer. She's helped save the day a lot but she would much rather the world burn so she can film it as her next big scoop.
The boys treat April like their mom in this show. April herself doesn't really get that. In one episode she got poison flowers and thought it was from the boys and went to "let them down gently" because she thought they romantically liked her.
April on multiple occasions reads bed time stories to them. She in one episode read the same bedtime story 4 times just because they liked it that much. She was going to read it a 5th time just for Leonardo.
When Zack, the 5th turtle, was in danger instead of helping him April shouted "What a scoop!" and filmed a child in a death trap.
Splinter believes in wholesome gaslighting in this show. He once cured three of them of permanent balloon-itis with moth balls but made up a story about how it was an ancient mythical legendary cure. Then after they were better he said it was moth balls.
April actually got fired from her job because she wouldn't badmouth the turtles on live television (also for other reasons). She focused on freelance while helping the boys on the side.
April is really bamf. She's actually saved the turtles just as much as they save her.
I just want everyone to know I love these little guys. The turtles are pure little snookie pookie baby bookies. No one knows the amount of space these silly little fictional turtles take up in my heart.
I hope maybe with more word out people might give the 1987 tmnt show a chance. It's really cute and funny. A super enjoyable time. It doesn't deserve the ragging it gets from other shows and fanbases. They're just goobers.
Thanks for reading my ramble list. :)
Also! if there's any fanfic recs please let me know I'm making a list and checking it twice ;)

Five Random Lines Meme
tagged by @shes-a-voodoo-child, thank you!!
rules: pick any ten five (sorry lads I gotta mow the lawn but you’re welcome to collect ten!) of your fics, scroll to the midpoint, pick a line (or three) and share it. then tag ten people.
tagging: @jaimehwatson, @girlfriendsofthegalaxy, @believerindaydreams, @dansedan, @grand-magnificent, @miserablecreachur, @nagdabbit, @shiny-good-rock, @shinakkyo if you’d like to!
I’m also gonna pick the fics more or less at random out of 105 fics, here goes:
1.    The Captain and the Gentleman, The Sea Wolf (Jack London), Wolf Larsen/ Humphrey van Weyden (#35)
 The flash of fear on his cabin-boy's face should have occurred to him. He adds abruptly, "Er, in matters of literature."
 "Oh. Of course."
 Is he imagining the coldness in Hump's voice, or is that simply the whip of salt-tinged air on his bare cheeks? They cross the decks with nigh a word, only the wash of the waves beside them.
 His heart pounds in his throat. Would it do to be direct? His own captain those years before simply instructed him to remove his clothes, a cold, brutal affair. But that had no part in his desire, it was simply an exchange he agreed to. Something to pass the time. Stealing a glance to Hump, he can’t help but feel like this will be another matter entirely.
2.  A companion to trees and a song for a friend, Beyond the Law (1968), Joe Billy Cudlip / Ben Novak ( #80)
 Cudlip frowns, “People, they just. Don't know what to say.”
  “Come off it, Cud, people aren’t all that good and you know that,” Silas growls, “They treat us like there's just got to be somethin’ different about us. Like there's just got to be somethin’ wrong.”
  “Eventually you want to prove them right,” Ben murmurs gently.
 “Now what would you know about that?” Silas mutters sharply. Cudlip’s cheeks burn.
 “Silas, shut up - -”
 “No, it's alright.”
3. it's the same ballpark, Death Note, L/Yagami Light, Matt/Mello/Near (#100)
"Hey," Mello keeps his eyes on the screen, "no working during Movie Night, we agreed."
L shrugs, "Near is working."
Near gives L a very dirty look, but abandons his patterned stack of Lego nodes, "Considering possibilities, that's  all."
Mello and Matt share a conspiratorial look before yanking Near by the armpits onto the couch between them. Light muffles a chuckle as L returns from the message to tangle a hand in his hair.
4. white collar chokeout, 新日本プロレス | New Japan Pro-Wrestling, KENTA/Katsuyori Shibata (#5)
“Tch, Kacchan, it’s going to take more than that to shut me–”
He moves, snarls, Kenta moves with him, he’s going to bite his fucking tongue off –
– Kenta’s lips are on his. Kenta’s tongue is in his mouth, fuck, shit, fucking– Kenta’s hands framing his face, his teeth clicking against Shibata’s, and his whole body a hot, sure line against the fire under Shibata’s skin.
His eyes are closed, Shibata realizes. And without thinking about it, he closes his in answer.
If he opens them, he will have to reckon with this. He will have to.
Kenta’s lips are soft, and Shibata can taste the little skip in his teeth as he leans forward, slipping deeper into Kenta’s hold. The closet hinges creak. His blood pounds in his ears. He keeps his eyes shut.
5. pith and rind , The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Tuco Ramirez/Angel Eyes
Maybe that was why Blondie had stayed so long the first time-- those deft, wicked fingers making him into a martyr every night. Tuco's skill with rope was better than Blondie tying his own damn noose, by now, but this was something entirely different. They'd used the rope about a month ago in Angel's house, Blondie's neck straining, his breath like a hunted animal.
Blondie hadn't complained about that.
Angel's hands trace his spine again, all the way down to where his hands are neatly bound. Then he sits back consideringly, a penknife appearing in his hands as if by magic. He studies Tuco while he cuts the orange slices in half, exposing the bright color beneath the pith. He eats one off the knife, with a casualness that almost makes Tuco flinch. Despite the fact that they'd just had it out the night before, that he'd really been hoping Blondie might stick around this morning, he could feel himself getting pretty damn hard in his pants.
He can blame it on the knife. That's new.

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth - Review
This is the second Team Ladybug game on Steam, it came after Touhou Luna Nights, which I reviewed.
Despite being interested in it only because it was a Team Ladybug Metroidvania, it did a great job of making me interested in the source material, which I will be reading into very soon.
Tumblr media
To explain the plot of the game, first I need to give some context.
The setting is based on a series of light novels called Record of Lodoss War, they date back to the 80s, and another novel was released not too long ago, 12 years after the last one, and this game serves kind of like an introduction to this new series of novels in a way.
The game does give you some backstory, enough to establish its own, coherent narrative, and even without reading the novels, I feel this game can be enjoyed, along with its themes.
Though I would imagine reading the novels and then playing this game would be nice for the fans since you would know all the characters and their backstories.
The plot of the game is pretty simple, you are told there was once a group of heroes who brought peace to the land of Lodoss, and that the only girl in the group, Deedlit the elf, fell in love with a human.
She wakes up in an unknown place, with her memories feeling hazy, she must travel the labyrinth she finds herself into and discover what she is truly doing there.
As I mentioned, you will find several characters from the original series, from protagonists to major antagonists, but despite the game not explaining each character, you can see a theme in Deedlit's journey, and it's one of sorrow and loss.
The game doesn't have that much dialogue, but in the little it has it's able to convey those emotions at the end of the game, there is not much else to talk about in terms of plot, so it's time to talk about the gameplay.
The gameplay is just a bit similar to Castlevania Symphony of the Night, but there are big differences, for one, you can aim in 8 directions for your attack, and you also have a bow you can freely aim.
Magic works similarly as it does in Touhou Luna Nights, but there is one more mechanic that mixes things up, very early on in the game, you get wind and fire spirits, and you can switch between which one is active.
This changes the element of your attacks, and when you have any of them active, you can level up the other one by defeating enemies, by reaching the max level, you automatically regain health while having that spirit active, getting hit removes a whole level though.
Another property the spirits have is that you completely absorb the damage of the same element, which replenishes your MP, which reminds me of Ikaruga in a way.
I like this system very much, at the start I thought it would make things too easy, but you die pretty fast if you are not careful, and the HP recovery rate is not that high to feel like it removes danger completely.
I especially like this system in bosses that use both of the elements, it's very satisfying for me to learn their patterns to optimally defeat them.
The level design is also alright, it's the typical "unlocking an ability or key to progress" kind of design, but it also takes the spirit changing into account, including obstacles that need it to be surpassed.
While the level design isn't as great as in Touhou Luna Nights, it's still pretty good.
Enemies are also pretty standard, what stands out are the bosses, as I mentioned before, they put the spirit changing to the test, and they all have at least one tricky attack that might need some figuring out.
The boss rush has the same issue it had on Touhou Luna Nights though, they have the original health, making it so the first few die in just a couple of hits.
The game has some extra features though, after you complete the game once you can pick a number of modifiers to the game, like always staying on level 1, 1 HP, spirit levels being always 1, or retaining all of your learned spells.
For me, that increases replayability quite a lot, I kind of wish these types of settings were retroactively added into Touhou Luna Nights, these challenge runs in Metroidvanias are very fun to try, and giving you the choice to pick exactly what you want makes me more willing to try one.
And that is pretty much all there is to the gameplay, it's pretty solid overall.
The only stuff left to mention is the graphics and music, and they are both fantastic.
Team Ladybug did a great job yet again, the sprite work is incredible, just like with Touhou Luna Nights, visually the game is eye-candy, though the afterimage of the Deedlit can be bothersome sometimes, you can turn it off if you want.
And that's pretty much it, I heavily recommend this game, even if you never heard of Record of Lodoss war or haven't read the novels yet, I think this game holds up on its own, And if you are a fan of the series already, it will be a very cool experience.

Let's (re)Read The Great Hunt! Chapter 28: A New Thread in the Pattern
Tumblr media
If I were one of those Net Troll Aiel, you'd never see my spoilers coming unless I wanted you to. Perhaps I am one and do want that, or maybe I'm an incompetent, but either way. There are spoilers for the whole Wheel of Time series under the cut.
Perrin watched the mountains of Kinslayer’s Dagger uncomfortably as he rode.
Hey, Perrin's back! And we've got a wolf icon. Because it's a Perrin chapter! It's not complicated.
The wolves said there were people in the mountains. Perrin wondered if they were some of Fain’s Darkfriends.
Not everyone is a Darkfriend, Perrin. You of all three boys have least reason to be this universally paranoid since you didn't actually run into any Darkfriends on your journey except maybe a couple of the Children.
Mat, his bow slung across his back, rode with seeming unconcern, juggling three colored balls, yet he looked paler than he had. Verin examined him two and three times a day now, frowning, and Perrin was sure she had even tried Healing at least once, but it made no difference Perrin could see.
Verin already being just a good person by trying to help Mat since she's here.
“Tell me again! Anything I may have missed, anything that will help me find the Horn. . . .” Ingtar drew a breath and let it out slowly.
Rand must not be able to think about the glory of the horn because Lanfear and Ingtar are hogging it all. Dude is getting a bit monomaniacal.
The wolves call him—or it—Shadowkiller; I think it was a man, but they wouldn’t go close enough to see clearly.
Ingtar's immediate leap to shadowspawn under the circumstances only enforces how corrupted his time made him.
“He flaming wanted me to see him, or I likely wouldn’t have.” Uno sounded disgusted at admitting it.
Uno, you're a great guy. I don't know that you're Horn great exactly, but you're a great guy.
He was a tall man, with skin dark from the sun and red hair cut short except for a tail in the back that hung to his shoulders.
Someone please tell the Aiel that the 80s are long gone and that their hairstyles didn't look good when they were contemporary, let alone thousands of years after the fact.
“Maybe Ingtar’s right,” Mat added quietly. “Maybe Rand is an Aiel.”
Perrin nodded. “But it doesn’t change anything.”
“No, it doesn’t.” Mat sounded as if he were talking about something beside what Perrin meant.
What are either of you talking about? Mat, are you planning on betraying Rand or something? It feels like what you'd be considering that now since the Portal Stones push you off that path for good.
But you have the look of those who have made the journey to Rhuidean and survived.
Urien must be suffering from excessive hydration and hallucinating as a result, since Verin very much does not have this look.
“You call it the Waste,” Urien said. “To us it is the Three-fold Land. A shaping stone, to make us; a testing ground, to prove our worth; and a punishment for the sin.”
Oh hey, here's another mention of sin - though of course this particular sin was really more an offense against Aes Sedai than the universe.
I . . . can tell you only what is known to all. Rhuidean lies in the lands of the Jenn Aiel, the thirteenth clan.
Since there apparently still are some Jenn (How? Why? Etc?), one wonders if perhaps they really do live there. Maybe underground? They've got to be somewhere, and Aiels are quite good at finding people, so...
“What would I not give,” Verin murmured, gazing up at Urien, “to have you in the White Tower. Or just willing to talk. Oh, be still, man. I won’t harm you. Unless you mean to harm me, with your talk of dancing.”
I like to think that Verin's whole life has been a series of events like this one where she almost gets to learn something astounding by the standards of the Tower but doesn't really get to focus on it because of the gravity of her real mission.
“He Who Comes With the Dawn. It is said there will be great signs and portents of his coming. I saw that you were from Shienar by your escort’s armor, and you had the look of a Wise One, so I thought you might have word of great events, the events that might herald him.”
“I cannot tell you where he is, Urien,” she said, “and I have heard of no signs or portents to guide you to him.”
Urien had a good instinct since these people absolutely could tell him about Rand.
They won't though. This is another great Aes Sedai tier lie. She can't tell him where Rand is at the moment and she doesn't know of any particular omens that would be relevant to Urien's quest. She knows plenty about the subject of course. She's just not sharing.
Of course, as much as I love Verin, I must admit that even she has her blindspots and biases, being willing to consider the possibility that the Aiel are nothing more than a Shadow's corruption of prophecy. Dang girl, that's cold and wrong.
Softly, as to herself, Verin spoke, still staring at the ground. “It must be a part, and yet how? Does the Wheel of Time weave threads into the Pattern of which we know nothing? Or does the Dark One touch the Pattern again?”
Speaking of, next time: It's bigger! It's badder! It's Texas!

In regard to the Faruzan situation:
There has been a lot of complaining about her, so I want to write it all out. The issue with Faruzan is not any one thing, but rather a combination of bad choices stacked on each other.
1) She has an 80 cost burst but generates only 2 particles, which means she needs huge amounts of ER to run. In itself, this is pretty whatever. Like two thirds of the cast (minimum) have energy issues.
2) Those two particles are locked behind a charged shot, a widely reviled mechanic that caused endless complaints when Sara released. Some people are ok with it, but most aren’t. Even people who use Sara just straight up skip it. Which they can do because Sara’s C2 aaaaand...
3) Sara runs with Raiden and gets her burst filled back up even if she generates 0 particles personally. Gorou runs on a team of 3-4 Geos, who all battery each other. Faruzan doesn’t have those mitigating factors. Of the two Anemo DPS characters, Xiao has to run with a dedicated battery on his team and Scaramouche guides directly tell you to only burst every other rotation because getting it back up every time is too difficult. They can’t even battery themselves, much less Faruzan... their support. Scaramouche’s kit even disincentivizes running more than two Anemo characters because you miss out on one of his buffs (and god help you if you want to run a Geo support).
4) Her buffs are entirely in her burst. Yes, her A1 lets her charged shot give the same buff as her burst, but only for 4 seconds. Even Sara gives 6 seconds of buff, and her tengu lightning explicitly has a delay before it comes down, so that you can switch characters and use they skill/burst just as it hits, enjoying the entire duration. You can even buff different characters on her skill and her burst if you want to. And Gorou doesn’t have this issue since he has 10s duration of his skill, which can more or less cover Itto’s 11s burst, since I believe the buff also has a 2 sec duration before expiring.
These things combined make Faruzan extremely difficult to use, and none of her cons before C6 mitigate it. Her buffs are good, but not if she can’t reliable use them outside of a very specific and awkward setup.
And then you get to her C6. And it’s just insulting.
5) Sara and Gorou C6 give element-specific Crit DMG too. But that’s ALL they do. There’s nothing else in those C6s, at all.
Faruzan’s C6 gives her Anemo Crit DMG buff, but it also solves her awkward buff range issues AND gives her CC AND solves her energy issues AND turns her into a battery AND gives her additional buffing option (Tenacity). All at the same time.
It’s like... they had a kit in mind, and then they stripped down all of it in order to stuff it into a single con.
Getting a 4 star’s C6 is an insane RNG exercise, even when you’re down for the banner 5 star. I will never forget how I went to 80 + 74 on Zhongli’s 2022 Lantern Rite banner and got ONE SINGLE copy of Xingqiu the entire way through. I got 8 Yanfei and 8 Beidou, but 1 Xingqiu. That could be Faruzan for any Scaramouche wanter. And if you’re a Xiao main (or, god save you, a Heizou main) who doesn’t even want the rate up 5 stars? There’s even online stories about people getting to C6 Scaramouche before C6 Faruzan. All while she’s almost certainly locked to his banners, just like Gorou and Sara are locked to Itto and Raiden, so the opportunities for her cons are few and far between.
Being blunt...
Faruzan’s burst should have never been that weird polyhedron with the triangle movement pattern. It should have always triggered repeated collapses around the on-field character. That’s how Gorou’s burst works, functionally: his skill but it follows you. And her cons should have then added to the collapses’ functionality, something like C1 increased burst duration, C2 suction, C4 energy gen, C6 Crit DMG.
Yes, you’d have energy issues to C4 that way, yes, that is separate from the charged shot issue, but at least it wouldn’t all be gated to C6. Because a 4 star’s C6 shouldn’t just turn them into a different, better character, seriously.

Top five tops you own (if you want to post pics that’s cool! But descriptions are also cool!) Bonus: Top five bottoms you own
sadly no pictures because I am not at the same house as most of my clothes!! also as a side I first read this and was like "but I don't own people that's bad" before I realised. anyway.
TOP 5 TOPS (excluding me)
this one lace blouse I have - it's white and goes really, really nicely with pretty much everything I wear. it has flounce sleeves and has the advantage of being an all seasons thing. the neckline is also perfectly placed to not screw with my necklaces, and it was also £8.99, which was Very nice
my 'Creation of Adam' t-shirt, it's! a t-shirt, with a print of the artwork on it, but it's very nicely placed and looks good with high-waisted things, which is pretty much everything I wear
my mushroom t-shirt, it is a light brown t-shirt with like. botanical drawings of mushrooms on it, and even though the washing machine likes to destroy it it is Still going strong and it's a nice one! looks nice with reds, and I don't wear it as much as I should!
this black lace t-shirt I have, that I pretty much always style with a black bra underneath and one of my Lucy & Yak pinafores. it's probably 30-40 years old, since my mam had it when she was my age, and it's a classic, simple, does the job while also making a bit of a statement, like. no one else in this O'Neill's is wearing vintage Topshop
tough to pick just one more but I'm gonna go for my Blitz Magazine t-shirt that I grabbed from the V&A gift shop about 10 years ago, it's black with white text, oversized, loose, and is my go-to for when I'm studying at work because it lets me pass as a student at the uni so I can use their desks, which are a better height than the dedicated hospital ones. also it just looks GOOD on me it makes me feel certain ways about my appearance!!
TOP 5 BOTTOMS
vintage midi skirt I got off vinted last week for £6. aside from being £6, it has other very nice aspects, such as fitting perfectly, having belt loops, and being genuinely stunning - it's red and gold stripes with a very subtle white floral pattern over it, and it has the bonus of a built-in petticoat so I can wear tights under it
copper cigarette trousers, there isn't much to say about them except that they look great and are good for those "tesco at 5 and drinks at 6" days that I have more often than anyone would expect
tapestry trousers I got for £10 off vinted - they're made of a thick material and have the appearance of like. an old pair of curtains (affectionate). they have a floral pattern and I have a pair of boots somewhere that go very nicely with them. they have pockets, too!
red corduroy skirt, it is a dark red corduroy mini skirt I found in a charity shop! I don't usually Like mini skirts but I like this one, it's not mini-mini but also lets me show off my leg tattoos, so I'll give her that. also red is a banging colour on me
gay shorts. they're knee-length shorts with a very very 80s floral pattern on them. they are PERFECT for summer. they are incredibly ugly and also the most comfortable things I own. I look at them and smile because I put them on and everyone knows I'm not cishet. gay shorts

Reference post for myself
OK, next up in my series of posts for myself to reference for gender care, see prior disclaimer (I Am Not Your Doctor And For All You Know I'm Actually A Dog) in dr kristophine's gender emporium tag. PITA factor = pain in the ass factor, not necessarily side effect but something to consider.
Preventing hair loss (will be relevant both for people undergoing masculinizing therapies as well as people aiming for feminization who do not want to lose their head hair).
Minoxidil: topical (Rogaine, multiple brands available). NOT prescription-only; however there are online services that will sell you access to a doctor to include both minoxidil and other, Rx only therapies. Not sure if those are worth it, probably not if you have a good PCP but if you don't, might be an option. Must be used continuously BID, significant PITA factor. Gains lost if treatment stopped. Some evidence for combination with microneedling treatment to improve penetration but this carries infection & scar risk so use with caution. Personal note: suspect cotreatment with DMSO would increase permeation into substrate but this is potentially carcinogenic?? But I saw a bottle of DMSO on shelf at local hippie store???? Look that up more later. --note: DMSO appears to be a bogus cancer cure. jfc. it's a solvent for fuck's sake.
Spironolactone: systemic, anti-androgen, will stop peripheral DHT conversion that drives follicular atrophy. Used for hirsutism in cis women, likely less useful for trans women per my friend, but should decrease androgenic alopecia in AFAB people starting testosterone & also in AMAB people who have not yet experienced significant hair loss but are looking down the barrel of it. Genetics inherited from mom's side so look at maternal granddad/uncles for likely hair loss patterns. Once significant hair loss experienced, I doubt spiro could reverse, but some data do suggest could reverse early loss? Can be used in combination with minoxidil. Electrolyte abnormalities, frequent urination. (Spiro/finasteride may be more useful for body hair than facial hair in trans women per my friend.)
Finasteride: systemic, 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. Some similarities to spiro. Highly effective (about 65%, so don't get your hopes too high) in cis men. Data lacking in trans patients. Some thoughts of risk of mood SEs but not well supported bc poorly studied. Trouble with erectile function likely for both finasteride and spiro but again poorly studied in trans women. Sexual side effects likely to stop with cessation of therapy, source.
Dutasteride: another systemic, 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. Appears to be useful in the same ways as finasteride with potentially fewer side effects, source. Always suspicious that "fewer side effects" just means haven't studied it enough yet.
Laser: lots and lots and lots of devices sold, I get a shit ton of targeted ads bc I've searched alopecia, but these are not FDA-approved and rarely even FDA cleared (HairMax is the only cleared one to my knowledge). Hundreds of dollars. Not worth it per any research I've seen. Unfortunate bc there probably IS something there given possibility of paradoxical hair growth with laser hair removal, but not yet delineated & developed for market as far as I know.
Ketaconazole shampoo: what the FUCK. This is a thing??? Unclear mechanisms, extremely poorly data, but really low side effects, available OTC, and may inhibit peripheral DHT conversation. Anybody tried this shit????
Prostaglandin analogues: used successfully in lash growth serums. Results on scalp less promising, likely due to thicker skin, trials in progress, if I were going to recommend this would probably suggest considering combo with microneedling as well. I've tried the version available from Sephora for the bald spots after I had a couple of trichilemmal cysts removed and it's not dramatic but didn't give me any horrible SE either. Available OTC. Annoyingly expensive, think it was like 80-90 bucks for the jar I got.
Other therapies are currently in trials for autoimmune mediated hair loss, but this is not typically going to be the type of hair loss seen with hormonal therapy, so I would ignore Janus kinase trials and PRP injections for now unless further benefit is demonstrated for multiple forms of alopecia.

November 5 – Family Ties One-Shot: Write a one-shot revolving around your character’s family, include 3 family members minimum.
Friday night dinner at the Johnson's
“Ok, so. What iiiiiiiiis six times six-” Jeremy held a pencil out to Suzie, who was sitting at the other side of the dinner table as the little girl held her hands over the top of her list of times-tables, being quizzed.
“Thirty … six?” She scrunched up her face, before counting it through on her fingers and deciding she had cracked it.
“Thirty-six!” Jeremy confirmed. “Good job.”
Friday nights were his sacred night, where (unless there was something really cool he wanted to go to instead) he would go home for dinner and to spend some quality time with his family. This wasn’t enough, in Suzie’s eyes, but it would have to do. She was even more cross that she’d been forced to do her homework before she could actually have any sort of fun and show Jeremy the new kingdom she was designing for all of her toys upstairs. But still, she had his virtually undivided attention, which was alright.
Mr Johnson was in the kitchen, where there was a rhythmic sound of chopping as he handled the vegetables for dinner. He craned his head briefly through the door to look into the dining room, and smiled. Jeremy was high-fiving his sister.
“Jere?”
His son’s head turned around to face him. “Yeah?”
“Can you have a look at the potatoes and check if I’ve done enough? I never know how many to do when your Uncle comes over, it throws off all my quantities. It can wait until you’ve got a good break-”
Jeremy nodded. “Sure thing. Just give me a minute.” It could wait until they’d got through Suzie’s homework, rather than him disappearing now. It wasn’t like his Mum had even got back from collecting Uncle Joe from the station (he’d been at a meeting in Salisbury earlier in the day, and was swinging by for a flying overnight visit before he headed home). Then there would usually be the inevitable ‘cup of tea, get him settled into the guest room, give everybody a chance to decompress from the work-day’ before dinner was actually served. So he wasn’t in a rush, even if he was the designated roast potato master. “Alright, now, Suze. You want to run through those six times tables for me another time? Show me you’ve mastered it, yeah?”
Suzie nodded, and began to recite the numbers in pattern, as Mr Johnson returned to the kitchen.
“What’re you listening to?” Jeremy asked as he made his way into the kitchen. His Dad had something soft and mellow playing, that Jeremy didn’t recognise. There was a large cup of tea on the worktop, and a small mountain of vegetables piled up. In the oven, a chicken was roasting away.
“Hm? Oh… boring,” Mr Johnson chuckled, “Just some old folk band.”
“It’s nice,” Jeremy smiled. His Dad listened to a lot of classical music, he wasn’t one for big things or loud things, and apparently never had been (the music scene of the 80s had really passed him by), but this somehow seemed to suit him. “You know the Gentleman’s President is really into his folk music? He wants us to make sure we include at least one folk or trad. Track in every arrangement this year.”
“Really?” Mr Johnson raised his eyebrows. “Nice to see some appreciation for tradition, I suppose.” He couldn’t imagine that it was all that glamorous, of course, compared to what the young people loved these days. “Anyway, there’s your potatoes. I’ll leave them to you, Potato Chef,” he gave Jeremy a smile, with a twinkle in his eyes.
Jeremy quietly went about filling a pan with water to begin the necessary rituals for his prized roast potatoes, listening to the music. His father was stirring gravy on the stove, and the two of them quietly went about their business. Suzie came stomping back downstairs from putting away her maths book, and came to sit at the table, when there was the tell-tale sound of the door opening and a loud call of, “We’re home!”
At that, Suzie leapt back away from the kitchen table and ran to the hall, where Uncle Joe made a suitably large fuss of her.
“Hi darling,” Julia Johnson laid her hand on her husband’s arm and pressed a kiss to his cheek, before she dumped her coat and bag down on the kitchen table. “And hello you,” she gave Jeremy a kiss on the cheek too, which made him scrunch his face slightly in a smile. It sounded like it had been a long day.
“Tea, or wine?” Mr Johnson asked, turning around from the stovetop.
“Just water, for the moment, I think,” Julia sighed, as she sat down and took her shoes off.
Uncle Joe emerged from the hall, with a big broad grin on his bearded face, and Suzie balanced on his hip. “Howdy Johnsons!” He greeted everybody, looking cheery and as if he hadn’t spent the whole week sitting in a blank, boring conference centre. “Jeremy Johnson, did you get taller?”
“It’s just the hair,” Mr Johnson cut in.
Jeremy grinned, and left the water to heat up so he could go and give his uncle a hug. “He’s right, I’m definitely not getting any taller.”
“We’ll get you some shoes with a big platform on them-” Uncle Joe joked.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jeremy crept slowly out of Suzie’s room, where the nightlight bathed everything in a purplish glow. He turned around as he left, with one hand on the door. A chaos of blonde curls spilled out all over her pillow. Hopefully she was having nice dreams about the story book they’d been reading through (all about a park keeper named Percy).
He pulled the door to behind him, but didn’t quite close it. If he did that, it would make a noise, and in an instant she would be awake and the whole process of bedtime would have to be repeated.
He padded down the landing, keeping to the side of the corridor to avoid the squeaky floorboard in the centre, and made his way down the stairs.
“It is a worry,” he heard his Dad’s voice drifting up the stairs. Jeremy slowed, one foot hovering above the next step. “He hasn’t really said anything about it, but I think he probably wants to do something with his music.”
The disapproval was obvious in his tone, even from here.
“He has at least agreed he’s going to finish his degree and make sure he gets a good degree,” His mother added. Jeremy lowered his foot, but stayed still. He didn’t want to eavesdrop but it felt like lately he’d been on the outside of these conversations all too often. Uncle Joe said something that Jeremy didn’t quite manage to make out.
“You’re right,” Mrs Johnson conceded, but she sounded troubled about it. “He is a good boy, I just … I worry, you know? I don’t want to see him throw his whole future away and then break his own heart for it.”
Jeremy felt his heart break a little in that moment anyway. He didn’t want to worry them, he didn’t want to break his own heart and risk having a future that would be difficult and would maybe never pay him back for all of his hard work. But wouldn’t he be doing all the same things if he settled for a career that didn’t actually bring him any joy? Wouldn’t that be heartbreaking and unfulfilling?
“He’ll be alright,” Uncle Joe spoke. Jeremy felt very warm towards him for a moment. “He is a good kid. Maybe this is just something he needs to explore, you know? It’s not as if he’s not a talented little sod,” he added.
Jeremy smiled to himself, then continued down the stairs, deliberately taking a few loud steps, before he swung the living room door open (and everybody looked around at him as if they hadn’t just been discussing him). “Sorry, I’m putting the kettle on, did anybody want anything?”
“Oh, no, thank you darling,” Mrs Johnson smiled, raising her glass of wine.
“No thanks Jere,” Mr Johnson shook his head.
“All good, thanks kiddo,” Uncle Joe smiled.
Jeremy swung the door shut behind him as he went to go and make himself a cup of tea. He would join them again in a moment or two, once he was done. For now he tried to fight the unsettled feeling in his stomach, and he pulled out his phone to reply to some texts that had come in while he’d been putting Suzie to bed.
North End get stuck in the Tractor Ruts
The week from hell was complete on Saturday when North End lost 2-4 away to Tractor Boys at Portman Road. It was the third defeat in eight days for North End and finished off a horror week with eleven goals conceded and only two scored. North End were their own worst enemies in Suffolk with some horrendous defending for all four of the the home sides goal. 1-3 down at half time we saw North End rally for a while when we made it 2-3 but Ipswich looked dangerous every time they went forward against a North End defence that was quite literally all over the place. Poor passing, poor positional play and some weak tackling were all criticisms that could be leveled at the North End back line on a day most of the players in Yellow will want to forget.
Ryan Lowe made four changes to the side beaten at Leicester in midweek with Browne, Ledson, Keane and Frokjaer coming in for Whiteman, McCann, Holmes and Millar. North End held their own for the first fifteen minutes but soon afterwards Chaplin was allowed a shot unchallenged from 12 yards directly from a corner on the left. It was appalling defending but there was worse to come later on. North End rallied a little and when Frokjaer equalised ten minutes later it looked game on. However North End then lost the ball twenty yards into the Ipswich half and Williams ran 80 yards unchallenged to fire the Tractor Boys into the lead beating Freddie Woodman at the far post. It was absolutely diabolical defending by North End and in added time we went 1-3 down when Hirst headed across goal for Broadhurst to make it three with Lindsay the wrong side of the scorer. North End fans watched on in disbelief as we went in two down at the break.
The manager made three changes at half time, which seems to be a recurring habit after a poor first half for North End. Whiteman, Holmes and Millar were introduced as North End looked to get back into the game quickly. Within ten minutes of the restart North End had reduced the deficit white a Whiteman shot took a deflection into the net and put some life, at last, into the North End play. Much as we tried out efforts seemed to get less effective and with quarter of an hour to go the home side closed out the game when Jackson got on the end of an Ipswich breakaway cross to make it 2-4 and that was the end of that. Woodman made an excellent save near the end to stop things getting any worse but this was a poor result in a game which I thought we could have taken something from if we had defended anything like we were doing when winning those matches earlier in the season.
So, incredibly, we still sit third in the Championship table after this week from hell but the pack have now caught us and if we dont collect some serious points from the next two games, both at Deepdale, we will start to drop quickly. No doubt every North End fan would have taken twenty points from the eleven games and if the three defeats had been sprinkled amongst those eleven games then it would be much less of an issue. From what I have seen so far the squad is better than last season, however, we seldom perform to our maximum in big games under Ryan. We have defended very well in the games we have been leading but I feel we often give teams too much respect and do not play to our strengths. These aren`t criticisms they are observations after seeing all twelve of the competitive encounters this term. The manager must instill confidence back in the squad over this international break and we must come out against Millwall wound up to bursting point. It has been a very good start for North End but all that will be forgotten if the next three games follow the pattern of the last three.
Technology can play such an integral role in relationship violence that the Duluth Model includes a Tech Power and Control Wheel (PDF, 540 KB), outlining how physical abusers use technology to facilitate the original eight tactics. It includes verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as contact that takes place electronically. Can you believe the knitting portion of this Mystery #wip is completed on Day 14?! In just 2 weeks, We've reached 473 stitches (and goodness only knows how many short rows)on my beautiful #chiaogoo interchangeable needles. I'm using #queenslandperthyarn (80% Superwash Wool & 20% Nylon) in the colorway Rainbow Reef as the Main Color, and #malabrigosockyarn (100% Superwash Merino Wool) in the colorway 195 Black as the Contrast Color! I have never seen a pattern written in this way but it's one of those things where, if I take it bit by bit and trust the process, the progress is AMAZING. Life is like that sometimes, don't you think? Life has certainly been like that lately. My current housing crisis is reminding me of that. But the magic part is that I haven't had to revert to any old behaviors to cope with the stress! Thank you for seeing me through it. Next step is to pin this baby out an give her a proper blocking! Keep watching.... #wittyknitter504 #knittingislife #knittingislove #vogueknitting #knitshawl #knitstagram #knitblr #knittingismyyoga #knittingnotquitting #menwhoknit #realmenknit #guyswhoknit #gayknitters #guyswhoknit #knittingaddict #knitlifechoseme https://www.instagram.com/p/ClAIDsGpFY-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Typical Music Tim Burgess (Bella Union) (released 23 September 2022)
There is a thread on the Hoffman boards where the discussion concerns how many times do you play a new album that you don’t seem to like.  One of the members actually claims that he gives it one spin.  He believes that an album is understandable on the first play.  He then says he can prove this because he has several albums that he played when they came out and thought they were terrible and filed them.  Years later he digs them out, plays them once and immoderately says, ‘yep, it still is terrible. My judgment call was correct.’  To amplify his idiocy he claims he has never been wrong yet.  Once he declares an album to be horrible, nothing will change his mind.  It is this close mindedness that astonishes me.  Perhaps I’m the close minded one but I refuse to believe anyone can hear an album one time and determine its effectiveness, its greatness or its deep impairments.
Since The Beatles are the favorite topic on the Hoffman boards, let’s take their most difficult song, Revolution 9.  I’ve no clue what this man thinks of this song and I don’t care, he has little to offer me in terms of what he thinks is good or bad.  The first time I heard Revolution 9 I had no idea what I was hearing.  By the 50th time I heard it I knew it’s rhythms, I could detect a form to it and I heard patterns and repetitive musical motifs (even if they were atypical music).  Those discoveries came with repetitive listens and over time I came to enjoy it when I heard it.  Maybe it isn’t my favorite Beatle tune, but that is irrelevant.  I came to accept it and understand it and therefore I no longer had a reason to discount it or skip it when I played the parent album.  Had I been using the man in question’s judgments, I would have let my first impression rule my mind for the rest of the album’s encounters with me.  I never would have played Side 4 of the album it was on or I would have skipped it thereby diminishing the artist’s intended complete statement.
When I encounter an album I dislike I tend to spend more time listening to it trying to understand what it is I dislike about it.  I play it until it becomes second nature to me and more often than not I find I don’t necessarily despise it, but I understand what my problems are with that album.  I want to know that because that gives me a finer appreciation of an artist, their overall musical vision and I’m able to speak of all of their work including that which I don’t like.  Just dismissing an album after one play is foolish and reductive, an easy out.
I have a bad habit of playing an album once and saying to myself (and sometimes announcing my ignorance publicly by telling my brother) ““I hate this!” That phrase should be universally stricken from a music fan’s criticism of any music after only one listen.  Music, despite what Mr One Play Lasts My Lifetime believes, is complex and to grasp everything about it on the first play is downright difficult if not impossible.  Imagine having the capability to fully grasp Trout Mask Replica on the very first listen.  I’ve no doubt some people were (and are) able to do that but my head certainly couldn’t.  But to write it off makes little sense to me.  I paid for the damn thing and I’ll be damned if I’m going to file it after one play.  I have done that, a lifetime ago when I was more proud of my close mindedness.  I thought it was brash and bold to denounce something after one play.  Today, I’m not the guy I was way back in the ‘80s when I thrived on that nonsense.  Case in point my enjoyment of the band The Swimming Pool Q’s who I despised in the 1980s.  My contempt for them was based on a handful of plays of their second album.  I’d guess I never played their eponymously titled album more than three times and I chucked that band in the trash bin.  I bought their entire catalog this year knowing full well of the risk and I walked away with a finer appreciation of them today than I ever would have believed I would have in the 80s.
The first time I played Typical Music (I bought the 2 CD version on the day it came out and I posted the contents on 27 September right here) I disliked it immensely.  I couldn’t hear a single solitary melody and it sounded like a mess.  Granted, part of that is down to my deplorable hearing loss that sprung up two years ago.  But that is beside the point at this juncture.  I read the credits of the album and discovered that Thighpaulsandra plays a variety of synths and mellotrons as do other musicians.  At first I thought what the heck is Thighpaulsandra (of Julian Cope fame) doing with Tim Burgess?  But mostly I thought why doesn’t this sound just like I Love The New Sky, Burgess’ last album that I fell in love with after just a couple of listens.  So, I pulled that album out and played it.  Guess what.  It sounds pretty close to this album and Thighpaulsandra is all over that album too as are synths and mellotrons.  So, that was my first lesson in Typical Music.  I had to stop bitching that this new album was a synth album (it isn’t but music fans when they hate something can be intentionally reductive).
My next task was to force myself to play Typical Music every day for one week.  This is a double album, a long double album that runs 80 minutes in length.  And playing an 80 minute album each day is a task that I didn’t really want to do.  But in doing it, I suddenly started hearing things I didn’t hear on first play.  I could discern melodies, I got familiar with choruses and certain stanzas on certain songs.  When that happens I tend to grab the album to see what the song is that I’m suddenly becoming familiar with.  By the end of seven plays, I suddenly had some things I was really enjoying.  Suddenly I was finding songs I wanted to hear again.  I’m not talking the easy to understand things like Time That We Call Time (which Pearl Charles sings on of all people) but more complicated songs like The Centre of Me (Is A Symphony of You) and L.O.S.T. Lost/ Will You Take A Look At My Hand Please and Kinetic Connection and Slacker (Than I’ve Ever Been).  And with more listens those songs I call complicated are no longer complicated at all.  I'm still trying to figure out Flamingo and Revenge Through Art which means more reasons to spin this album!
Then I wanted to read the lyrics to see what the devil he is saying at the beginning of Curiosity.  Is it a patch of nonsense words or is he actually saying something.  I wanted to know because I cannot tell you how many days I’ve woke up with that song in my head and I don’t know what is being said.  Well, to read the lyrics on the CD version is impossible for guys my age who need new glasses and eye surgery.  They are minuscule and Burgess’ handwriting is sloppy and difficult to decipher.  Should I buy the vinyl version just to be able to read song lyrics?  Well, I do tend to admire double albums and true double albums are a blast to have on vinyl (in my viewpoint) and it was becoming apparent that I was really finding this album to be quite a jewel, so here it is on vinyl.  I realize that is quite a long build up to explain why I have now bought a second copy of this album.  But there is it.
I’m not going to photograph everything about this album.  It looks the same as the CD version with the exception of the obi on the album and the record labels.  That’s what you will see.  Above you see the album cover and the back of the album.  Since Burgess is a modern man, he has an album cover with no writing or information who this album is by.  He trusts you will know he is Tim Burgess (the hair gives his identity away) on the cover but his record label slaps an obi on it to identify this.  It is a double album and a huge cost to the record label (I assume doubles cost more to produce than singe albums) and they want to sell it so they ensure his name is found on the obi.
Below you see a close up of the front of the obi but only the front side with all the writing.  The back of it looks like the sticker on the front of the CD version (as you see in the photo above at top).
Since this double album is on colored vinyl I will give you shots of that as well.  Below is the first album which is on red vinyl.  The second photo is my (patent pending) Sunshot Shot.
The second album is on blue vinyl as you can see in the two photos below.
The final four shots are individual shots of all four of the record labels.
i have a date on saturday. i’m not particularly excited to go on it, if i’m being honest. it’s not that i don’t want to go on the date, i definitely do. but right now it’s not the usual “pre-date anxiety” that i’m used to feeling any other time.
i didn’t feel it very much on the first date either, now that i think about it. i think that’s a good thing. before i would worry myself so much about whether everything was perfect, if i looked like what they’d want me to, if they’d like me as much as i did. i guess now i have come to the realization that if she didn’t want to continue talking to me, she wouldn’t have. If she didn’t want to get to know me in person, she would’ve declined the first date. If the date didn’t go well, it wouldn’t have been the end of the world. If she didn’t want to go on a second date, she wouldn’t have said yes.
my two friends, who i introduced to each other and are now a couple, had pointed something out to me a few weeks ago about this. they said that i came up in their conversation. they talked about how i don’t have much confidence when dating and i don’t want to ask for as much as i give to the other person. they said because i’m a good person i deserve that reciprocation. it threw me off because i know it’s true. i did tell them they’re right. in the back of my mind i have had the thought that i want to get out of that cycle of feelings bc i know it directly comes from being emotionally abused and living in a dv household for a while. you try to outrun those patterns, but trauma can really make you blow up your own life. admittedly, i’ve been in a relationship with an emotionally draining person before, and i have been that person in a relationship before; i’ve made the effort to not be that person again by getting help. i never want to be that person again. since i’ve gotten better, i know there’s no rationality to talking myself out of happiness, but i’ve done it so much that it’s become normal. i really like this girl, i know she likes me, and it seems like we both just want to hang out and get to know each other more. i’m kinda scared to open up, but i know not putting so much pressure on myself to make it all work is the first sign of things aligning for the better.
aside from any feelings of anxiety, i know i’ve been feeling depressed lately. just a mix of school starting again and my best friend’s mom passing away after battling cancer. seeing her in hospice was very heart wrenching and i know my friend is having a hard time right now. while in the car to her mom’s service she made the joke that she’d never thought out of all things to have in common with a friend it’d be that she’d lost a parent while young.
it’s a very weird thing to be going through again, because her mom very much was a second mother to me. i think because it was a more prolonged grief this time; we knew once she was diagnosed she’d only have so much time left. people with my dad’s condition can live all the way into their 80s before having fatal complications. it’s just a sign of time not being guaranteed. my main problems are i keep getting these overwhelming waves of sadness and i haven’t been sleeping right. it’s messing with me a little bit. i don’t want to oversleep and miss my dental cleaning tomorrow. i’m going back to work soon and i don’t want it to effect me in the money making department. i have to get a car eventually.
for now i just need to allow myself to hurt. my mom is being very generous and gives me hugs whenever i ask. she knows i need them if i ask. what’s made me feel good is that i crocheted my cat a blanket and she loves it. my best friend’s mom could never teach me how to crochet wherever she tried. i just couldn’t get it, and i suddenly know how to now. i’d like to think she gave me the stillness of mind long enough to just let instinct take over. now i’m making a blanket to send my grandma. it’s halfway done. i’m going to keep crocheting to feel closer to my friend’s mom and to give my mind a break.
that’s all for now i guess
