Episode 29: Magnetic Attraction
Defensive training time! The team are doing Karate together I only got to a yellow belt myself because of how expensive lessons were, but it was fun either way
"I flipped Lance easy, and I'm a girl" "I fall for girls" Lance just say you like women who can kill you Once again we see Allura pointing out the fact she's a lady,,, I will never get over the back handedness of those comments
Oh my bad it's Judo! I've never done that one before
Great, nanny and Coran are here to tell Allura she's being improper again, and he thinks it's a good idea to guilt-trip her with her dead dad dude when will you learn that you can't stop her, she's literally doing worse by being a solider, protecting herself is the least she should know since even her guards can't handle when Lotor is after her
More misogyny from the team, the show really do be a product of its time 💀
The one good thing Coran does is warn other people to get to safety, but then proceeds to say "it's nothing, definitely not weird that a freaky orange and red cloud is slowly spreading over the sky of Arus when it's noon" if he doesn't die of old age I'm killing him myself
Oh so the cloud is rapidly causing global warming, eco terrorism is horrifying
Why the hell is there a group of people washing themselves in the last remaining water of a boiled away lake? im not sure if dotu will ever answer that but golion will later on
robeast so hot it melts missiles, and the team is immediately going to fly up to it except allura can't launch because blue has no power from the surrounding water which got boiled away oh shit this is actually a good plan on Haggars part
Ooh we get to see a crystal that probably helps power blue lion! Maybe that's where the nexus idea in VF came from!
Alfor ex machina, i can't remember the last time we saw you but it's been a hot minute hasn't it
HOLY SHIT LORE Black gets powered by lightning/electricity, Red gets powered from the heat of lava/magma, Yellow is also magma but more earth dependent, Green is powered by wind, and blue obvs is powered by water like i knew all this already but i love the fact i get to listen to it now
Coran finally thinks of protecting Allura against Lotor and attacks through castle defenses,, except not that it works because Lotor just attacks Allura who is still stuck in her lion as long as she stays inside I assume she's safe but man she's not having a good day
Lance is a smart cookie! He plans to make a path with their own magnetic laser in order to get up to the robeast Now only if he made more plans like that, the fights would be easier me thinks
Lotor doesn't want to hurt Allura, yet actively sends missiles at blue lion while she can't move I hope your dad beats you ong
wait did the team not know that they needed water to launch blue? ok that makes sense actually since they don't know anything about the lions and their mystic nature kind of late in the episode to realize that though
GIRL WHY ARE YOU OPENING THE HATCH FOR THE MECHANICS OF BLUE TO LET WATER RUSH IN, I DON'T THINK THAT'S HOW IT WORKS BUT OK Blue lion is back anyway so I guess it worked
Voltron formed, robeast defeated, and global warming cloud dispersed, so water can come back, the GIF for this episode is going to be great
DAMN ZARKON TRASHING HIS SON FOR THINKING FOR HIS DICK AGAIN
"My beloved nincompoop" LMAOO
/episode end
Episode 30: The Sleeping Princess
Lotor has a nightmare about a woman he says is Allura but very obviously isn't, especially when she does fade into Allura's design, probably his mother This man really obsessed with Allura
PRINCESS CORRAL MY BELOVED, LOTOR IS A SLUT FOR TURNING HER DOWN SHE'S SO CUTE
"Stop whining, you have no feelings" -Zarkon get his ass
Lotor stop making batshit excuses for not marrying her, you'll be unhappy either way good god
At least Zarkon knows that he'll fail his mission against Arus, if he just held on a little longer lotor wouldn't be a problem but nope
Tumblr media
Look at her, she's such a sweetie! She's even helping Lotor try to marry Allura, a mistake, but she's got her heart in the right place
"I want Allura to come willingly, [but] she lives in terror of my father" Lotor she's afraid of YOU, this is man is all kinds of delusional
Another flashback of the Not Allura woman, still think it's his mom, and she's definitely Arusian which is probably why Lotor has so much obsession for Allura
Flower picking time! Gotta give the pretty princess some pretty flowers to match! The boys are so wholesome
Ah, shit the cat fucked over a blue lion pilot again, what is with that cat against the color blue, now Allura is presumed dead and everyone is freaking out about it
Of course Keith pieces it together that she can't be dead as long as Lotor is still after her, which yeah makes sense but c'mon any other guy see through it please
Hunk makes a plan! Fake funeral for the princess to lure Lotor and Haggar out I'd love it if the team got more scenes like this, everyone is smart enough to contribute somehow
Oh shit Orla attended her funeral! That's nice to see
Keith you're such a simp for Allura, yes, yes we get it Allura is a girlboss and is an amazing leader
What a sweet idea, people throw flowers into Allura's casket and almost filled it to the brim maybe it's tradition for every Arusian, that'd be cool
Lotor hijacks the carriage Allura's casket is being transported in, sucks for him though BECAUSE PIDGE MANAGED TO HITCH A RIDE GET HIS ASS PIDGE
Rip Pidge gets used as a hostage EXCEPT ITS PIDGE VS HAGGAR AGAIN BECAUSE HE HAS A GRENADE ON HIM Oh god this kid is about to sacrifice himself if it means making sure Allura is safe and taking down one of the baddies, where's that post about dotu Pidge being suicidal
"I oughta feed you this" (proceeds to run at Lotor and Hagar with a live grenade) "PIDGE FOR PETES’S SAKE DITCH THE GRENADE" - Keith "WANNA SEE WITCHCRAFT?!" oh my god, everything is happening all at once
Grenade explodes, it was knocked out of pidge's hand beforehand, so he dove for Allura to protect her as best he could still so sweet even under all that pressure
Lotor and Haggar run away and Allura's awake, so all's well that ends well I guess Pidge finally gets a real kiss on the cheek from Allura, good for him
LOTOR STOP BULLYING CORRAL, SHE WANTED TO HELP BUT YOU FUCKED UP SO MARRY SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY LOVES YOU YOU FOOL

I had a thought this morning (wowie): why do you think Allura had a sudden change of heart regarding Lance? I can't recall if you examined this before, though I know you've tackled a similar topic. My guess is that she only went to Lance to hold onto an idea of home. The show might contradict me on this, but since Alteans live freakishly long lives, I can't imagine sudden and frequent changes being something they deal with very well as a species. With everything changing so much so quickly around her, she probably really needed an anchor, or to feel like she belonged *somewhere*: the castleship got destroyed, she had to live on an unfamiliar planet among people who were somewhat distrustful, she found out the Alteans were alive yet probably felt disconnected from them due to the huge time gap, and her found family were reunited with their real families, which had to make her lack of home more obvious and even harder to bear. Not to mention that Lance reminded her of her father. I think it also explains why they both never seemed happy together once they started dating — she probably knew to some level that what she was feeling for him was not romantic love and realized that she was unconsciously using him to fill a void, and Lance probably sensed that hesitation in her, which would only reinforce his feeling of not being good enough/of being inadequate. This actually makes me really empathize with Lance's post-war decisions (as much as I don't like them) and love Keith for inspiring and giving Lance strength even more, but I digress. :p I apologize if this is something you've discussed already!
You know...I actually don't know if I've talked about this before. And I actually hadn't considered the option you presented here, so that's interesting!
I like this option.
It paints Allura in a better light than how people have viewed her in the past (when it's been brought up here). And it makes sense with the whole "they were trying to make parallels between Lance and Alfor" thing I talked about previously.
I would much rather think that Allura turned to Lance after everything that happened with Lotor, and everything she had been through, because she needed security from him in a familial sense.
It is much better than the only other reason I can think of which is that she knew Lance had feelings for her, and therefore saw him as a safe bet for someone who would be there for her and potentially do whatever she needed.
The only thing I am unsure of is I don't actually remember if it said anywhere that Alteans lived longer lives. Honerva, Lotor, Allura, and Coran did, but they had extenuating circumstances that made that the case.
I think regardless, the bottom line is that the narrative just fits better when Lance and Allura have a more family orientated relationship instead of a romantic one. And the thing is I really think Lance had matured enough by that point in the show that if Allura had said this to him – had said that's what she needed – he would have been okay with it.
That was a nice thought you had, anonymous, and I'm glad you shared it! :)

me: huh I guess this Percy Jackson stuff is kinda cool. Oh, and the Witcher is supposed great. Oh and I can never stop talking about Batman.
my brain, punching me in the face: witchy sheith aus
#1 Kiki's delivery service type au. Magic is known but rare. Semi modern aesthetic. Maybe 50s ish?
Shiro's car breaks down and he has to walk the rest of the way to town, probably like 10 miles. Far. Keith comes down on his broomstick and they walk and talk for a while. The car is Shiro's baby, he's devastated at the thought of it breaking down and that someone will tow it to God knows where before he can come back for it. After a couple minutes of him not asking, Keith points out that there is room on his broomstick for two. Barely.
Shiro loves flying, of course.
They get into town, arrange for someone to pick up Shiro's car, who asks Keith, hey aren't witches usually girls? And trans!Keith's just, well this one isn't.
They go to a diner. (Maybe the 50s aesthetic was just the diner, Keith's jacket, and the classic car, actually. I'd be more comfortable with a 90s aesthetic anyway. It's at least post civil rights movement.) Shiro asks why Keith was flying out there, aren't witches usually assigned to their city and that's that? First off, that's in-training witches, how very dare you. I am a grown ass man. Second off, big sigh, yeah. My dad died. I'm bringing him to my mom's place because, well, I don't really know what to do with him. He's totally carrying an urn just, in his bag, it's a little funny in a morbid way.
Keith's gonna hit the road again right after eating, Shiro's gonna wait on his car, but they're both heading to roughly the same part of the country, maybe they'll meet up?
Definitely pre cellphones. It's very hopeful, very meet cute. Could go anywhere from here.
In retrospect I totally just made up the broken down car subplot in my waking mind to explain Shiro's movements but like. It works.
#2 sudden switch to Victorian aesthetic. Magic is Unknown and it is a big deal that Keith told Shiro anything.
So they arrive at the house together, and it's just Allura and a couple of unnamed extras there. Allura is completely ooc, sorry about that. Also the extras might be Pidge and Romelle, but if they are, I do NOT recognize them in those outfits lmao.
Anyway, Allura is in a tizzy over the state of them, they crashed through some trees or something at some point and are just. Slathered with dirt. They're both drawn to separate baths immediately. Keith is taken by the two girls, who lock themselves in with him, and Shiro remarks that he didn't think this was that kind of house, Allura says maybe she's just that type of woman. Keith, meanwhile, is Not Enjoying His Bath. Flailing limbs everywhere, even more so when they try to dress him.
Solo scene with him and Allura, There's been a Mistake. Keith does Not know how to stand in a dress. The shoes were right out, Keith has Giant feet. (Possibly actually? Like the Galra are Giants in this? Idk) Allura explains that the house (which has a name, but I've been watching Locke and Key and so the name my brain suggested was just Key House which means nothing to Keith) must be inherited by a Woman of the Blood or the protection on it and the people who live here and the family would have to be entirely redrawn, which would leave them vulnerable for months. Keith doesn't want to hurt his family, per se, but this is. Actually unbearable.
He leaves to stare at a portrait of his family when he and his sister? Inheriting cousin? Were babies. The brain suggested Lotor but uh. Why Keith in a dress? Maybe Axca? Whoever it is is either dead or unbearable.
Shiro narration. He thinks the purple skin is the result of the painter not knowing how to paint black skin, is surprised the family hung it anyway. No, they're just fucking purple. I wasn't imagining purple Keith, but a bit where Shiro thinks they did a terrible job bathing Keith and then it turns out that no, he is purple, he told you that you had the Sight would be cute.
Keith notices Shiro's presence, asks if Shiro's mad that he didn't tell him the whole truth. Flashback here, I think they shared a hotel room halfway here? And things got heated? And Shiro goes, yeah, if I'd known I'd been traveling with a member of the Peerage, I would have (I wanna say made Keith pay for everything instead of going dutch but dreaming Eli did not care).
He asks if it's okay to hug Keith, which he does from behind so Keith can keep staring at his mother's painted eyes. He tells Shiro he's lived as a man for over half his life, that his dad, at least, has never been anything but supportive, that he's a bastard anyway, (brain went through a rabbit hole of trying to decide who's in the painting then, but I'm not sure it matters? Only that Shiro thinks the babies are too young to determine the gender) that there's all kinds of ways for this to fuck up that aren't even his fault and he'll have gone through all of this for nothing.
Shiro says that he'll stand by Keith's side no matter what. A first kiss maybe?
This feels more like a friends to lovers situation than a meet cute, that could be fun. Like the flashbacks go farther than this trip, Keith's been "lying" to Shiro for longer, Shiro's like, this man can't lie to save his life, it is Known, so clearly he honestly doesn't care about a title or whatever. I'm feeling very Sherlockian about this now, it could be quite cute.
Oh throw in that bit from when I went on a Witcher binge and had the idea of Keith being Shiro's Wife for even purposes but then traveling as a man both for safety and because it feels truer? And Shiro does all the Peerage stuff for him because Keith doesn't wanna and because obviously even if it's Keith's inheritance We Are Stuffy Sexist Olds and Obviously We Only Want To Speak To The Man. Could be good here, idk I abide these vibes.

Esteemed Bastards,
I am currently rewatching Voltron legendary defender. Why is this important, you may ask. Well. I've reached season 5 episode 6. As you can guess, there will be spoilers. You don't want that? Cool, just peel you're eyeballs off and get scrolling.
On another note, this could be offensive, but I'm not really sure. We can have a normal conversation if you disagree, so don't start yelling please. I know this will come off strong.
Still here? Well, you've been warned.
This post is about Lotor. Or well. It's about Oriande and the consequences to Lotor.
At this point, here's what you should know about me. I barely remembered Voltron before starting this rewatching session. That said, I love the Good Lotor tag in ao3. Now that I've seen him again, I'm a bit less biased, but I still wanted to let y'all know.
So Lotor.
He's...an asshole. He's cunning and manipulative, and scarily intelligent. But he's also been hurt and deceived and betrayed. He doesn't let himself count on others. I'm not a psychologist, but it doesn't take one to know that his childhood played a gigantic role in that.
Throughout seasons 4 and 5, a few things have been constant.
Firstly, Lotor is unnerving. He's smart, unpredictable, and deadly and so much unlike a bull in a China shop, that it's scary. He's so much unlike what we expect of Galra in the Empire at that point. So much unlike Zarkon.
Secondly, being different is something Lotor takes immense pride in, but despite that he is in his most frantic behavior when saying it. "I am not my father." I feel like I've been hearing that for ages. And it checks out. Lotor despises his father, or well his animated corpse. He is someone that has learned to take pride in being different, and for him that means being half-Altean, for him this means trying to be learn as much as he can about Altean culture.
Thirdly, his sole goal has been quintessence gathering. In terms us 21st century earthling can understand, he wants to end an energy crisis. He wants unlimited energy to sustain his people. I get it. Even things that are revealed in the next season(if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about), do not disprove this, though the talk about his ethics is a big thing after that.
Fourthly, Lotor is not a good leader. Don't look at me like that. He's not. He's a good scientist, but he lacks an iron clad moral compass. He's learned how to bend ethical matters that should be unbending, but he's a scientist. He would be amazing as part of R&D or as an explorer. Being a leader, however, is not his calling. He's not steady enough, he is too fluid and curious to be the rock his people can lean on. That's alright, of course. Not everyone can lead. He gets too caught up in his own head. He forgets to sit back and explain.
Now let's switch focus to Oriande. Specifically, episode 6 in season 5.
In this episode, we see proof of all this. He's smart, he's unpredictable, he's knowledgeable, he doesn't slow down, he's not a rock. It's right there. He goes inside the white hole with Allura, feeling like the explorer he could have been.
Now I don't know about you, but Lotor barely helped Allura when the guardians attacked or when the room was about to crash on them. Again, that's understandable. The first part, is sow thing probably very few people would ahvw thought and the second required knowledge he had no way of possessing. He guided Allura, yes, but she did most of the job, to be honest. (That's not really the point, but I wanted to mention it.)
And then the final test. The white lion summons them to knock-off Astral Plain.
Lotor doesn't start the fight. He defends and dodges, yeah, and the lions keeps coming. As much as he likes to deny it, Lotor is obviously Galra in his stubbornness. Of course, this could just be a personality trait, and have nothing to do with being Galra, but let's just acknowledge that he's stubborn. He's stubborn and his culture encourages that. So, he doesn't give up. He fights back. He's not about to let himself get killed. "Victory or death," he yelled. Well, knowledge or death would be more like it, but the point stands. He will win the knowledge he wants or he will die trying. He's fighting for it. He 'kills' the white lion, and he's suddenly outside the temple. He's lost.
Let's check on Allura.
She dodges the lion again and again, jus tlike Lotor did at first. It keeps attacking. At some point, she thinks that this is not the way. "I seek the secret of life. I give my own." And then she await her death. Thankfully, it never comes.
Allura passed. Let's see the requirements for that.
Trusting a mystical guardian that is trying to kill you to spare your life
Being ready to give your life for something you don't understand
I don't know about you, but this does not feel right. Sacrifice is a huge deal, there are so many different ideas regarding this, but sacrificing your own life for something you do not understand seems stupid to me. What type of martyr complex must one have to gain the favor of the white lion, to gain access to the knowledge of Altean Alchemy?
The lion expects people to be ready to give their life for knowledge. It is very similar to the trials of Marmora, but there is one flaw. In the trials, there is no way to win against your assailants, int he first test Keith has passed. So Lotor wins against the lion and this leads nowhere. He was ready to die, but he didn't surrender. He flew into a white hole for this. He was ready to die, but not without a fight. It's understandable, isn't it? He fought and if he lost, if the lion killed him, then so be it. But he won against the lion. How is that wrong? How is fighting for knowledge wrong? He is prepared to die but he will not simply lay down his arms and wait. Why would he? He has people counting on him, there will be no peace at the face his death. He must win. Why would he just present his life to the lion? Why does he need to die, to learn the secrets of life?
Allura made peace with her death. She knew that she was needed but she somehow found the strength to trust the white lion with her life. She trusted a being that was trying to kill her with her life. I have yet to understand if this is strength, stupidity, or bravery. She showed a martyr complex possibly bigger than Keith's, and he was ready to die in Naxzela. Apparently, this is what the lion favored.
Allura has had quite the character development, and she truly deserves this, but her willingness to die for something she does not understand, her willingness to sacrifice her life for something that could prove meaningless... That's not why she should pass. That's why she should go to therapy. And I'm not joking here. Allura should pass for wanting peace and trying to achieve it through peaceful ways.
I understand how important it is to learn when to stop, when to give up, but the white lion should not have tried to teach that with their lives at stake. Teach them that they will have to yield at some point in their lives, but not at the cost of them and certainly not without understanding the situation. Letting go is a big thing, trusting someone takes strength, but trusting your enemy is not strength, it's stupid. All life is precious, others and our own. As if that's not all, the lion never does explain any of this. It's content with an act of martyrdom.
And, of course, what it did was all sorts of detrimental to Lotor's mental health. It's not just a sore-loser thing. His whole life, people have demeaned him for being Altean. Instead of wallowing in self-hatred, he managed to find pride in being Altean. He hates the father he has met, he despises the innecessary cruelty of the Galra Empire. He adores Honerva. Her mind, her research. And the white lion essentially turns him down for not having a martyr complex. For trying to survive.
I admit, inner peace is not something Lotor has achieved but in his mind, he was shunned by the lion for his galra beliefs. The embodiment of all his mother stood for, in his head, considered him unworthy because of his culture. I hadn't thought of it before, but a friend of mine called this racist and it scarily fits.
In all honesty, isn't the drive of the Galra inspiring? Their ability to commit to their goal is unparalleled and extreme. They are so stubborn, but it doesn't have to be something bad. I'm just saying that the Galra are nothing if not committed. The only issue is with what they are committed to achieve. After 10.000 years of misguidance, though, can they be blamed for a faulty moral compass? Not that they are all angels, but I don't believe that so many of them are inherently evil. For heaven's sake, remember the Altean training in season 1? Remember Allura saying an Altean child can defeat that level? Isn't that very unethical to human cultures? Training a child to kill? It's not all black and white. Alteans and Galra both have their faults, just like humans do.
Back to the point, though. The white lion takes a tradition older than Zarkon, a tradition the galra have had for more than 10.000 years and considers it wrong. Or well, that is the message it conveys. They are being tested for their worth and apparently the old galra tradition, something that should not only be a synonym to Zarkon, is not worthy. Lotor is unworthy because he is loyal and stubborn to a fault, because he is not ready to become a martyr.
This is not okay. We all know that human culture is vastly different from the alien ones in the show. Heck, even western and Eastern cultures here on earth have a lot of differences, but this is too much. If the galra are too violent and volatile, then the white lion is a hypocrite in its value of life. Life isn't something to be taken lightly. Be that someone else's life or your own.
This episode, in my opinion, marks the star of Lotor's descent to madness. It is truly a shame, that such great characters were subjected to such... bad writing. I'm not saying I can do better, I'm saying that they should have done better. I'm saying that the bar is raised higher. I'm saying that this show is good, but it could have been great.
Thanks for reading. Drop a comment or an ask about this. I'm craving a real talk about voltron!

I see all the Klance, Plance, can't say Shance since they're still mourning the lack of Shiro in the trailer, Kallura, etc. shippers bemoaning that Allurance has to be canon now since this clearly looks like a date, and you know what? I hope it is a date, even though I don't ship Allurance. Why? Because both Lance and Allura need to confront these feelings. I'm still endgame Klance, but regardless who he ends up with, if he does at all, I think this final date will be the catalyst he needs to get over Allura.
Look at his stance: it's relaxed and subdued. I'm assuming he and Allura were discussing something before she goes to heal(?) the tree, then wouldn't he be by her side, holding her hand, or the animators simply pan to his smiling/smitten face as he gazes at her if these two were endgame? Really, it would only take one or two more seconds. Instead, we have him slouching slightly, hands in pockets, and shadowed by Allura's light. You can argue time restraints as to why they didn't pan to his face, but I think it's because it would have revealed a major spoiler: Lance's forlorn yet happy face as he finally learns to let Allura go. His body language is not of someone in love. If anything, he looks relaxed. And not the "I'm trying to play it cool since I'm on a date with Allura" relaxed, but as if everything weighing him down has lifted, if only for a moment, and he can sit back and enjoy life. Lance has continually stated how he is awed by Allura, but he seems awfully withdrawn while watching her do this amazing feat. And these same feelings have also instilled within him a crippling sense of inferiority. Remember the scene when he was talking with the mice?
Tumblr media
“I’m pathetic. I used to make fun of people who would get their hearts broken. Heck, I was the one breaking hearts! I guess I never knew what it meant to like someone the way I like Allura. Allura’s not like any other girl I’ve ever met before. Probably because she’s an alien, but still. She’s smart, courageous, and makes me want to be a better person. That is so weird to say. And I can’t tell her how I feel. She wouldn’t take me seriously anyway. I don’t have anything to offer. I’m just a boy from Cuba, not a space prince like Lotor.”
Lance's feelings for Allura always made him feel lesser in comparison, and that's why I loved how he seemed to be maturing when he finally admitted that Allura might not love him back. And I won't lie that I think his, and Allura's, character regressed with the sudden romantic moments in season 7, reducing (in my eyes) Lance closer to his old girl-obsessed persona, and Allura towards the cliched "pining princess before the knight." This is why I'm glad this date is happening, because if the animators felt that this scene was important enough to be in the trailer, then this scene is obviously a turning point in their relationship. And I truly believe that he took her on this date so he could 1.) relinquish his crush on Allura, and 2.) make her see that, while she cares deeply for him, she does not love him romantically. I do not think Allura meant for Lance to be a rebound. But the feelings of betrayal and heartbreak were clouding her vision, and the hatred she felt towards herself for falling for Lotor was looking for someone to correct it. And the best person was Lance: the sweet, flirtatious boy who has openly crushed on her for ages, been there to support her since the beginning, and, most importantly, is on her side. I do think Allura does love Lance, but not in the way she think she does. This date can be the healing both characters need, with Lance finally realizing that he is more than his play boy persona and is just as important as Allura, and with Allura learning that it's ok that she fell for Lotor and that it's time to forgive herself.
And who knows, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this is the scene just before Lance steps into the light to stand side by side with Allura, but his body language just doesn't seem to match this. And for Allurance shippers, kudos for you for shipping these two amazing characters. I'll be there right beside you if someone tries to shame you for shipping these two. Personally, I just see this relationship as a stepping stone for Lance and Allura to continue growing into the people they want to be. So is my multishipping heart worried? No. In fact, I welcome this date with open arms. And to all my other shippers out there who fear this scene will spell a canon endgame for their ship? Don't be. Why?

Voltron season 8... Or what bothered me!!
Right. First time doing something like this... A review kind of thing. But I have the strong urge to express my feelings about that. Be careful, of course there will be spoilers. So stop reading now, if you don't want any.
So... The first episode was kind of lame. Just preparations and a lot of talking that wasn't very interesting or much relevant for the plot. I'm happy for all the Allurance shippers out there. I'm sure you all cried out in happiness at this point. Gotta say, their kissing scene was kind of nice. I loved the reverence to the 80s voltron at the beginning.
Second episode, lot of flashbacks. Nice to understand Honervas point of view. And kid Lotor was just sooooo cute. Totaly adorable.
And of course we have the usual comic relive episode. But it was nice. Most screentime Shiro gets in the entire season. Which is very, very, very disappointing to be honest. Give my boy the screentime he deserves!!!
Tumblr media
But hey, Shiro has been ripped of screentime and importance ever since they decided to make Keith the black paladin. So I was kind of prepared for my hopes and dreams to be crushed. I always hoped he would go back to the Black lion. And when it was clear that that was never going to happen again, I had the theory that he may become kind of the white lion. Or at least an equivalent to that... But that got crushed as well...
The final fight didn't make much sense in my opinion. The Atlas and voltron combining each other into one?? I guess they made that choice so Shiro could be with the team in the final fight for the realities, but it really felt kind of forced and out of place. But we had that situation since Kuron. That plot line was kind of forced as well. So I'm used to it.
It was kind of clear for me, that Allura would sacrifice herself. She has no one (except Koran, who doesn't really count in this regard) in this universe anymore. So her sacrificing herself to safe all of existence and therefore be reunited with her family again (kinda) made sense to me. Poor Allurance shippers though.
It's nice that they followed the 80s Voltron version and redeemed Honerva at the end. Although those Altean super magic powers were always a little to conviniet for my liking.
Speaking of conviniet: the power ups that some of the Bayards got... Way to go to do that in the last season. We can now fully appreciate the new forms of the Bayards in the upcoming seasons... Oh wait... Never mind...
The aftermath was kind of nice. I love the two groupshots they are taking. I missed Shiros facial hair since the days of season 3. And those Glases 🤣🤣🤣 Koran is not changing at all. And Altean Lance... Not quite sure what to think of that. For me it doesn't make any sense. Why would the get those markings, just because he kissed Allura? You wanna tell me, that Alteans can give away their DNA by kissing... Yeah... Right Voltron writers... Pidge and Hunk look nice a little bit older. Keith with his even longer hair looks kind of cute.
AND WE ONLY GIT ONE REAL GROUPSHOT OF KEITH AND SHIRO!!!! AND ONLY AT THE END!!!!
Tumblr media
But I'm happy, that they decided to give Shiro a new man. That he got married was so nice. Wish it would have been to Keith though 😜😜. But I'm super happy, that they at least gave us the pleasure of the kiss with his new husband. Very nice.
Anyways... Let me hear your thoughts on the matter. Always happy to discuss.

Don't you think it's kinda ignorant to not listen to people with criticism and dismiss it all? Not trying to attack you or anything but pretending problems don't exist seems really.... damaging?
Okay, here’s the thing! I am not pretending problems don’t exist, in fact most of my mutuals like nomadism and aquaburst give very valid, respectful, productive criticism that I agree with. It’s just that, what I find causes so much drama is that people latch on to word of god that they don’t focus on what the show offers. Nomadism brings up a point about how the interviews are all lip service on what the show lacks, and yes thank you, it’s similar to the point I was trying to make since season 4, which is to not prioritize word of god over the show.
Once I stopped listening to word of god and judge the show on its own, as any other viewer would, I started to enjoy it much more. People would rather listen to what AJ says rather than what the show says. He’s an actor, his opinion isn’t even word of god yet people hail it as truth. He’s a fellow fan, he has his own takes just as others, which I find to be rather shallow takes since they misrepresent many things.
Word of god can go on and on about how Lotor truly loved Allura but the show says no, it was pure exploitation and he needed her for the ships, the romance was to seal the deal type of thing, and his idea on Altea and for being the daughter of Alfor. Word of god says Lotor’s backstory shaped him and he was abused, but the show shows none of that, and in the context of the show his parents actually have a more sympathetic backstory, since that was shown onscreen. In fact now that we know he planned to kill Zarkon to gain the paladins trust he comes across as a sociopath, which fits what we saw of him.
In the context of the show, it all makes sense. Lotor’s entire arc becomes so clear when you watch the show and ignore all what is said. There was a lot of foreshadowing and little neat hints that I adore. I rather enjoy the show for what it is rather than what it is said to be. That’s all in regards to my enjoyment of the show.
In terms of my enjoyment of fandom, I just filter out many “criticisms” that are just insulting the writers or claiming characters were ruined, as if that was not the basis of the set up arcs. I just find some criticisms to be super negative and insulting, and tbh at this point I have no idea what anyone is saying cuz I blacklisted lots of ships and people. I just decided to invest my energy in producing things I always wanted to reblog for myself, and show more love for certain characters and scenes. I also feel much more free after the suffocation that was post-season5, which I said before felt very controlling in how I should interpret Lotor and dictate my enjoyment of Haggar, and how that shouldn’t be me “romanticizing” her etc. So yeah, it’s a matter of putting my own happiness first I guess? Which I do highly recommend it made me much more productive in appreciating my favs.

Is it possible Lotor wanted to get the purest quintessence through the rift in order to revive someone (some Altean that cared for him in the past)? I don't think he wanted to have quintessence just for his own power or to destroy others (as Zarkon instead does) - it doesn't suit VLD Lotor imo. Do you have any ideas?
Actually have a very specific theory about this, right here.
In other news, I’ve been really wondering about Lotor’s childhood.
Tumblr media
For a long time, I’ve assumed that Lotor’s very Altean presentation was sort of something done consciously to spite Zarkon, but, honestly, thinking about it more, that doesn’t entirely explain things.
Lotor has a (fairly thick) Altean accent (something that isn’t AJ’s natural accent and thus affected for in-universe reasons) that doesn’t slip when he’s alone or distracted or anything like that. Besides that, a lot of his perceptions and cultural sensibilities are, frankly, Altean.
In s4e3 it’s stated that Zarkon never trained Lotor, but Lotor was clearly trained by someone- he knows how to fight and quite well. Furthermore, his weapon of choice is a straight-bladed longsword, when every galra sword with the sole exception of one of Zarkon’s bayard forms (the whip sword) has an obvious curve to the blade.
Lotor is proficient in an Altean style of weapon, speaks with an Altean accent, presents himself- the shape of his armor, the length and style of his hair- as would be expected of an Altean. His perceptions and values are stereotypically Altean- he values diplomacy, negotiation, solidarity.
These aren’t things you can just adopt, even over a period of time, in rebellion to one’s father. Cultural attitudes, accents- these things are either changed very slowly by prolonged exposure to people with similar accents and attitudes, or they’re sown from the cradle.
The implication of s3e7 is that Zarkon and Honerva spent very little time with their child. After all, the entire span of time that would logically be Lotor’s life was the same span of time they were fixated on the rift- Zarkon and Honerva met each other for the first time when she came to Daibazaal to study it.
And s3e7 made a point that their research on the rift took precedence over everything else in their lives, and, even fairly early on, Zarkon and Alfor stopped being able to see eye to eye over it. Seemingly, while they remained paladins together, Alfor stopped visiting Daibazaal.
That timeline wouldn’t suggest Lotor would have a lot of Altean exposure if Zarkon shut out Alfor that early.
Unless, y’know... Lotor wasn’t on the side of that divide that we expected.
Tumblr media
Here’s what we see in s3e7: Alfor was a family man, thrilled to be a parent, and took opportunities in unrelated discussions to show everyone his baby daughter. Conversely, Zarkon’s overtures of acknowledging Allura are stilted and awkward, and Honerva doesn’t even make the effort, dismissively saying that the present they gave Allura was just a customary gesture.
The feeling here isn’t really that Zarkon and Honerva would be parents, if not for presumably Zarkon feeling a moral obligation to have an heir. They were quite taken with each other, but as newlyweds their focus is going right back to work, not on a family, and I can’t see Honerva compromising her work to raise a child. Babies are, by necessity, really needy, and if you work nonstop that’s going to be a lot of interruptions because baby Lotor is hungry or cold or scared or lonely and the only real way babies can express anything is screaming.
That ignoring that pretty logically if Honerva intended to keep a personal eye on Lotor, she’d have him living at the rift observatory with her, like she did with Kova, when rift exposure isn’t good for your health and Lotor as an infant would not have much of an immune system.
So what if the implication here isn’t just Lotor might’ve been raised on Daibazaal but by an Altean governess, but that some subtext to the arguments we saw Alfor and Zarkon did have onscreen was that Alfor basically took Lotor in?
Because back before s3, when asked if Lotor would be pursuing Allura romantically as he had in prior continuities, one of the writers actively said “What if they were siblings?” which I found very unusual because that’s never been remotely a thing in prior continuities. It’s pretty clearly not a thing biologically in this continuity since Lotor’s divided heritage means he needs to be related to at least Zarkon, and somehow I’m really skeptical there was a torrid offscreen affair between Zarkon and the Altean queen, especially one that, with that setup, would be very obvious and Lotor would not be calling Honerva his mother.
But honestly... if Lotor had been raised by Alfor, that. makes a lot of sense. Not only is that I can see something Alfor doing, easily- just taking Lotor and leaving at some point, losing his patience with Zarkon and Honerva focusing more on the rift than on their own child- but it would slot a lot of things into place.
Frankly, the way Lotor talks about Alfor would imply Lotor was close to him. Closer than he is to Zarkon, who he seems to have no positive feelings left towards- our only vestige they were even there is Lotor acting out the perceived role of begging Zarkon to pay any attention to him at all.
As I mentioned before, Lotor wasn’t trained by Zarkon, this is canon, but, clearly someone had to have- and what a coincidence that Lotor’s weapon is...
Tumblr media
The exact same length and shape as Alfor’s.
In s3e2, Allura reacts very oddly to Lotor, averting her eyes and stating it’s “deeply disturbing” without clarifying what about it disturbs her- that Zarkon has a son at all? She knew he was a married man and at that point could probably guess the Altean witch accompanying him was Honerva revived. If Zarkon’s still around and so is his wife, it’s pretty straightforwards that they could have as many children as they wanted to. Nothing disturbing about that, and her reaction doesn’t imply that she’s imagining in full technicolor detail a couple of ancient space zombies doing the do.
People have also pointed out that when Alfor’s AI is fired up for the first time, he has a somewhat awkward-sounding line emphasizing Allura is his only child.
Tumblr media
Which people have pointed out is a really suspicious thing to say, unless, y’know, that might be relevant somehow, or something might call that into question.
(Or if it’s factually correct, but, in practice, Alfor was raising another child pretty much as his own)
So was an unsung part of the developing enmity between Alfor and Zarkon that, from Zarkon’s perspective, Alfor practically stole his child, while from Alfor’s, Zarkon and Honerva neglected their son to the point that he had to personally intervene?
As a theory, this is something we should be able to test pretty rapidly going into s5... because if this theory is true, then the castleship was Lotor’s childhood home. Logically, since very little of it has been touched since its ten thousand year struggle, outside of the rooms the paladins have taken over, if Lotor lived there... he should have his own room still. One pretty much exactly where he left it. And even if Allura and Coran don’t make the decision to give him that room immediately... I’d still expect Lotor is going to react very suspiciously to being back onboard the castle, if there’s anything to this theory.

Crazy, Millennial Love Story chapter 13
Read on AO3, FF.net or under the cut!
Tumblr media
Like a kettle on a raging fire, Keith starts squealing when things get too hot under his feet. The pressure is off, misunderstandings are addressed, and Keith can finally breathe easily again.
For now, at least.
Chapter 13 of ? Ongoing 3246 words Modern/romance
Keith was comfortable. He was comfortable, safe, warm and… moving? He groaned as he cracked an eye open. “Where am I?” He mumbled as he took in his surroundings. He was in a car. The one that belonged to Hunk’s mother, to be precise, with the chef behind the wheel. He was lying, spread over the back seat, leaning against Shiro’s chest, the man’s arm firmly around his waist as he couldn’t wear a seat belt in this position, and covered in all three of their coats. That sure explained the warmth. Every pothole, every bump of hastily fixed asphalt that was characteristic for any road in the metropolis’ downtown area only worsened his headache, though. He must have had one Hell of a fall. “Where are we going?”
“What? Dude, we’re taking you to the hospital!” Hunk called from behind the wheel. “You fainted, remember? You were well fed, you had enough to drink, but not too much either. You had literally no reason to pass out, so we’re getting you checked out.”
“W-What?! No!” Keith protested as he kicked the coats off his legs, sitting upright. “I’m fine, I swear!” He only stopped struggling when he felt Shiro’s prosthetic tighten around his waist.
“Keith… You’ve been acting weird all month. I’m worried about you, you know. What if it’s something serious?”
“I know…” Keith mumbled, settling back into the man’s chest. “But I’m really okay, physically speaking. You don't have to take me to a doctor." He pleaded, and not much later, he felt the car come to a halt as Hunk pulled into a parking space by the road.
"But, if it's not physical, then what is it?" Hunk asked, turning in his chair to look in the back seat. Keith noticed traces on cheeks from old tears. He’d have to somehow make this up to him, but it would have to wait. He had to talk himself out of this situation first.
"Just stress, I guess." Keith said. It wasn't a lie, just a gross oversimplification, and Hunk seemed to be buying it. "The last two months have just… It's been a lot to adjust to."
"Right, I get it. But try not to overwork yourself, okay? I know it can be tempting, but you need to be careful with what jobs you do and don’t take."
If it was up to Keith, Hunk would never find out how hard he just hit the nail on its head, though. "I'll be careful." He mumbled solemnly.
"Good. Now if you guys don’t mind, I’ll drive you home." Hunk said optimistically as he started the car again, driving the two of them back to their apartment.
Even though Keith was now conscious and sitting up in his own seat, Shiro maintained his death grip on Keith’s waist. Hunk might have bought Keith’s excuse, but the older man wasn't having it. Deep down, Keith was painfully aware of this. He shouldn’t have been caught off guard by what came next.
"Is this somehow about my relationship with Allura?" Shiro asked, performatively staring out the window, resting his chin on his hand, to further drive home the casual, disinterested tone he had delivered the question in. Keith tensed under Shiro's arm, he knew Keith hated it whenever he feigned indifference, possibly even more than when it was real. "I knew it!" He shouted. “This is about me dating Allura!”
"How did you know?!" Keith asked, looking at him in bewilderment.
"Keith, buddy, it really doesn't take a detective to figure that out. All month, you've been moping in your bed, which really wouldn't be weird for you, but not once did I come home to the apartment smelling like weed. You've been losing your appetite halfway through or skipping meals altogether,"
"Skipping meals?!"
"at so much as a mention of Allura, and you've been making me promise to be safe and call you if anything went wrong, but only when I went out with Allura. Keith, you're even skinnier than when you moved in with me three years ago. Did you really think I wouldn't notice something was up?"
"Shiro, I..." Keith stammered, his vision blurring as tears welled up in his eyes. "I-I don't… I just wanted to..."
"Protect me?"
Keith nodded. Shiro sighed.
"You know, I've actually talked about this with Allura. See, before we met I used to date this guy who thought he had to protect me from the world, and seeing as you don’t know about his existence and apparently came to the conclusion that I'm heterosexual, it's safe to say that that relationship didn't work out."
Keith could only look up at the man. Eyes like saucers, his jaw slack, and his mind was having more than a little trouble keeping up.
"But we can talk about that later if you want. What's important now is that, yes, I'm technically physically disabled, and yes, my mental stability isn't what it used to be, but I'm not naive. Being a cop in the big city does that to you. I trust Allura and Coran, which only leads me to the question 'Why don't you?'"
Keith shook his head, looking down at his feet to hide the tears in his eyes only to make them fall to his lap immediately. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
"Try me.” Shiro said sternly. “If something happened to you, I want to know it. Trust is a two way street, remember? You can talk to me."
Keith sobbed and rubbed the tears from his eyes. That’s right. Shiro trusted him. And while it was difficult, Keith knew he had to trust Shiro as well. "Remember when I took that job from that anonymous number?"
"And I told you you were pretty stupid for not asking the guy's name? Oh, I remember."
"Thanks for rubbing that in. Anyway he introduced himself to me when he arrived at our meeting point. He said his name was Lotor."
"Oh boy. That couldn’t have ended well..." Hunk squeaked from behind the wheel, sinking in his seat ever so slightly, but it was enough to catch Shiro's attention.
"You know this Lotor guy, Hunk?" Shiro asked.
The man behind the wheel nodded. "Yeah, I know him, alright. We all do. We just don’t particularly like bringing him up. He’s something of a collective trauma I really wish you guys wouldn’t have to deal with.”
“How come?” Shiro asked curiously.
“Have you guys ever seen Scott Pilgrim?” Hunk checked. “Like, Allura doesn't need seven evil exes. She just has one evil ex with the combined spite and saltiness of at least ten evil exes." He said as he squeezed the steering wheel, knuckles turning white. "He tries to scare off anyone who would be her friend or potential romantic partner. And what’s worse is that he’s successful pretty often. We've all had to deal with him. It got ugly most times, but now we just block him and as many of his teenage cronies we can on all of our platforms. It's easy enough, I'll show you guys how to do it some time."
"I appreciate the sentiment, Hunk, but he drew Keith out in the real world. I don't think it's as easy to keep a handle on a bitter ex and his posse of fangirls when they can physically come at you." Shiro argued.
"You're right." Hunk sighed in agreement. "And, I mean, not only is the physical threat concerning, but there's also the fact that this is the most unpredictable he's been since I've been friends with Allura. He’s never tried to approach us outside of the internet."
"What baffles me most is that he went for Keith, not for me, since I would be his direct competitor."
"It's because he knows we're close." Keith spoke up, driving the heels of his palms into his eyes in frustration. "He told me Allura did the shittiest things to him while they were dating, and then he made me promise to keep you safe."
"Two birds, one stone." Shiro concluded.
Keith's shoulders shook as a sob wracked through his body. "I'm sorry." He croaked. "I shouldn't have trusted some eccentric rando over you and Allura! I was just so scared..."
Shiro hushed him as he pulled Keith into a tight hug, firmly rubbing between his shoulders. "It's okay. For what it’s worth, if I had been in your shoes, I probably would have done the same. No offense, Hunk."
"None taken.” Hunk piped up from behind the steering wheel. “Ah, we're here."
"Trust me, it's worth a lot." Keith chuckled through his tears, muffled by Shiro's sweater. “And again, I’m sorry.”
"You should save your apologies for Allura, Keith. And Hunk, I can't let you drive home with a clear conscience. You can stay the night at our place." Shiro offered as he gathered up their coats.
"Thanks, that sounds great. I’ll call my mom to let her know."
"Hunk, babe, are you awake?" Keith asked as he stared at his darkened ceiling. It had to be at least 4 in the morning, but he didn't care enough to turn his head to take a look at his alarm clock. Hunk was warm and comfortable at his side, cuddled against him in Keith's cramped single bed.
"Yeah, I'm awake." Hunk mumbled, a hand coming up to brush the hair out of Keith's face. "Why?"
"I was just wondering..." Keith whispered, hesitating for a second. "If I had asked you about what Lotor told me about Allura, would you have believed me?"
A deep sigh escaped Hunk, tickling Keith’s neck, as he thought on his answer. "I don't think I would. I've known her for a few years, and Lotor and his fans have tried to drag me away from her too, and she supported me through all of it, so I'd have a hard time believing she could have been a bad, manipulative person."
"Then what would you do if you hadn't? What if you didn’t know the first thing about her, except what she posts online?" Keith asked as he rolled to his side, facing the other man.
"I… would listen to what you have to say. Then, I would talk to Allura, try to find some of the guys she dated other than Lotor, talk to them, and then take what I found back to you, and hope we could all come to a mutual understanding. Like… I don't like passing judgment based on rumors."
"I try not to, usually. I just don't know what came over me this time."
"Hey, it's okay. Shiro is your best friend. You were just worried. But… next time you're struggling with a dilemma like this, come talk to me, okay? I'll help you out."
"'Kay." Keith yawned. "Thanks Hunk. Good night."
"Good night, Keith."
“Allura?” Shiro tried, speaking into the receiver of his cell phone.
“Shiro, ohmigod! You took forever! Is Keith okay? What did the doctors say?” Allura’s voice came from the other side of the line. She sounded concerned. Scared. Panicked, even.
“We… never arrived at the hospital?” He hesitated.
“WHAT?!”
“No, wait, shit, I mean he woke up before we got there, and he told us what was wrong with him.”
“Right, and he can just tell what’s going on?” Allura asked. She didn’t sound too impressed.
“Well, yeah. He got really stressed. Like, a panic attack… And he passed out. Simple as that. Because we’re dating.”
“Because we’re dating?” She asked, disbelief dominant in her voice.
“Yeah. Apparently your ex didn’t come after me, like we expected. He just booked a shoot with Keith about a month ago, and he just put the most horrible ideas about you into his head, and he’s just been mulling on it for weeks. It’s been eating him from the inside.”
“I can’t believe I used to date that guy.” Allura sighed in exasperation. “To think that he would stoop so low.”
“It’s okay Allura, there’s no way you could have known it would go like this. It’s not fair to beat yourself up over this, so please don’t. I promise I’ll be better than him.”
A chuckle came from the other side of the line. “That’s not a high bar to raise, honey.”
‘Honey’. The idea that Allura would refer to him as such still reddened his cheeks, quickened his heartbeat and made the hairs on his neck stand on end.
“Shiro, listen… If you don’t want to go public with this, with what happened to Keith and all, and the chance of Lotor losing his shit, I understand.”
“No, I still want to. I don’t care about Lotor or what he might do. I love you, and I want the world to know. If you’ll let me, that is.”
“Trust me, I’ll let you. But what about Keith?”
“Don’t worry about it, I’ll talk to him in the morning. We might come over later tomorrow if you don’t mind.”
“I don’t mind. I actually want to see him in person after what he pulled earlier.”
“I completely understand.” Shiro chuckled. “So… uh… good night, I guess?”
“Right. Good night, love.”
“Good night, sweetheart.” It was still so alien to him; being in an intimate, romantic relationships, being called ‘honey’, ‘love’ and ‘sweetheart’, and calling his partner ‘honey’, ‘love’ and ‘sweetheart’ in return. It felt alien, but it felt good.
It felt right.
It was 11 in the morning by the time Shiro and Keith were on the bus to Allura’s apartment again. Hunk had gone home about an hour earlier, but not before making breakfast and ensuring the three of them were well fed and ready to tackle the day. Especially Keith. It was sweet how concerned he was for his well being, Keith thought. He wasn’t used to all this love and affection being directed at him. Even Shiro wasn’t as hands-on as Hunk was. He would have to make it up to his boyfriend, someday. Maybe with some grand gesture, like in the movies. But that would have to wait for now. There was something else on his mind altogether.
“About last night…” Keith started, glancing at the man sitting across from him. “You said you used to have a boyfriend, right? That wasn’t just my pounding skull talking to me?”
“Nope, that was all me.” Shiro said, smiling sheepishly. “But yeah, I had a boyfriend in high school.”
“And not just because you were ‘bi-curious’?”
“Sorry to disappoint, but I’m a full-blown bisexual.” Shiro said as his smile became more confident.
“So, then, why didn’t you tell me?” Keith asked.
Shiro only shrugged. “It never came up.”
“Dude, I came out to you!” Keith hissed, only not to shout on a bus full of people. “I’d call that ‘bringing it up’!”
“Hey, that was your moment. I didn’t want to make it about myself.”
Keith groaned in frustration. “While that’s really sweet and all, it really didn’t occur to you that telling me about this thing we have in common, being attracted to men, might make me feel better about myself? I mean, in all the time we’ve spent together, I’ve never once seen you look at a guy the way you look at Allura. There’s no way I could have just guessed.”
Shiro stared at Keith, a shocked, nervous smile on his face. “Yeah, you make a valid point there. And, I mean, I hope this thing with Allura is going to be long term, it would have taken even longer for you to find out… I’m sorry, Keith.”
“It’s okay.” Keith said, smiling sadly as he patted Shiro’s knee. “But seriously though, I’m happy for you and Allura. I’ve only ever seen you guys be good for each other.”
“Thanks, Keith. You have no idea what that means to me. Now, if I’m not mistaken, this is our stop.”
“Keith!” Allura yelled when she opened the door, flinging her arms around the shorter man’s shoulders, almost immediately pulling back to get a better look at him. He still wasn’t looking his best, but definitely better than last night. “I’m so glad you’re okay.” She whispered as she pulled him into a more gentle hug this time. “You really scared us there, you know?”
“Yeah.” Keith mumbled. “I, uh, I have a rough idea. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pass out.”
“I don’t think anyone means to pass out.” Shiro joked, trying to make light of the situation, but quickly swallowed his words when the two glanced up at him, a near identical unimpressed pout on both their faces. “I’ll be quiet.”
“I hope you don’t mind, Keith, but Shiro called me last night to tell me about your situation… Nearly gave him a heart attack when he told me you guys never made it to the hospital.” She spoke as she gently punched Shiro in the arm. “He told me Lotor talked to you.”
“Boy did he…” Keith mumbled under his breath, glancing away from her, still feeling like he had somehow betrayed her. “I… I know I shouldn’t have trusted him. I knew you’d never do anything bad to Shiro, but there always was this tiny seed of doubt that something might go wrong, and it wrecked me.”
“Keith, no. Don’t blame yourself. None of this is your fault, and you know it. I just wanted to warn you, because it might happen again. Especially when Shiro and I make our relationship public.”
“I’ll be ready for him this time.” Keith said, his eyes full with newfound determination. “I’ll know he’s a lying sack of shit and shouldn’t be trusted.”
Allura giggled, for the first time that day. “I appreciate the sentiment, Keith. Approaching people outside of the internet usually isn’t his way of doing things, though. He’ll be unpredictable to any of us from here on out.”
Keith only shrugged. “I tend not to think too far ahead myself. Unpredictability is just the way I roll.”
“If you say so, Keith.” Allura said, smiling ever so endearingly. “Can I ask you a favor?”
“After what I did, I’ll do just about anything to make it up to you.” Keith said, fiddling with the cuffs of his sleeves.
“Then would you take the picture for our announcement?” She asked again, offering Keith her camera. It was nearly identical to his own, with the exception of her more expensive and high-end lense and flash diffuser.
Keith smiled and gratefully took the camera in both hands. “Where do you want this taken?”
Allura took Shiro’s hand and lead him to the ceiling-high windows, overlooking the city skyline. “Here is fine.”
Keith nodded and got ready, bringing the viewfinder to his eye. “Come on, Shiro, smile. Do something, no need to be nervous.” He encouraged.
“Uh, well, okay.” Shiro mumbled when Keith went back to find the two of them through the lense again.
The next thing he heard was a loud whoop and giggle from Allura as Shiro swept her off her feet, cradling her in his arms like the princess she was. Keith chuckled as he clicked the shutter what had to have been at least ten times. He smiled genuinely, unlike last night, when he still worried for Shiro’s general well being. No, this time it felt right. They were friends. Close ones, after only a few months.
And Keith would never let anyone try to tear them apart ever again.

Don't be disappointed when kallura like zutara won't happen. They hardly interact
It might not happen. It might. The series is on going and everything is up in the air at the moment because of that.
Kallura does stand a strong chance of becoming canon because of history. Kallura happened in all of the previous versions outside of Go Lion (even there I think it was like a peachshipping situation where it was hinted at, but never went anywhere). The crew could’ve enjoyed the pairing as children, adding it to this series.  There is arguably light hinting at it throughout this series like the scene with them floating out in space and the interactions they do have, even then I’m not sure if it will lead anywhere.
I do think that if Kallura or Romelle/Shiro is gonna be canon, this and the next season are gonna be the points that could make those really bloom. With Allura and Keith finally seeing Lotor in the flesh, this could spark Lotor feelings for Allura and bring out Keith’s emotions more towards her, possibly feeling jealous about Lotor and not knowing why. With Romelle likely being introduced this season or the next, we could see her and Shiro bond and give an explanation about what the hell happened to the real Shiro.
With that said, other pairings could happen as well  and I won’t complain. Or none at all. Because you’re right, anon. Nothing is set in stone. That’s part of the fun of me being in a fandom is guessing about what direction the show is going in. Sometimes I am totally wrong from me predicting Dark Dipper and that never happening or thinking Lotor was the Weblum Galra when it was Acxa; and sometimes I’m right on the money like Galra Keith and predicting Acxa’s personality by the way she acts in the Weblem.  I am not getting my hopes up about anything whether it be about Kallura, Lotor’s redemption or even my predictions about how the clone theory will play out because I can be totally wrong and Kallura won’t be end game.   But you never know.  ;)

hiya! ♡ i love your analysis and wanted your input of some of the teams relationships with each other! it just feels like they understand and practice the mechanics of team bonding but don't really /trust/ each other
Thanks dearly!
Okay, let’s divide the team into categories.
Trust as a learning curve: Pidge edition.
We have Hunk, Lance and Pidge, obviously, who have been friends, I’m assuming, for at least a year or so. Though we haven’t been given much info about their past apart from that one flashback of Pidge’s when she first met Lance and Hunk. In fact, it’s only Pidge’s relationship between Hunk and Lance that’s really explored between those three. Hunk and Lance’s relationship doesn’t get the same depth. But that’s because there was an element of distrust from the start for Pidge: her gender, her family and Kerberos, she was surrounded by lies. It’s clear that their friendship has grown since then with the emergence of Voltron, as you can see there is a clear line she had previously drawn between them and her which has disappeared now. Likely similar to the line Keith draws between him and everyone else. So, you can sense a type of self-preservation from her since the very start, though you see the way she gradually embraced everyone since that stressful time in her life, especially when she becomes aware of the fact she ‘hasn’t always been there for people’ when she is tasked with taking back the castle from Sendak. She becomes aware of the fact that she perhaps never treated Hunk and Lance fairly, but they both kept trying anyway. In realising she’s allowed to embrace the team fully, she becomes comfortable enough to reveal her true gender. Her entire first arc was learning to trust her team, as you could see she was reluctant open her mind to them at the beginning with the mind melding exercise. So, in terms of Pidge, I believe she trusts the team very much now, and there is a clear cohesion between her, Hunk and Lance. Lance borrows her stuff a lot, and they enjoy a video or two game together, and Hunk is her nerd partner, but she’s also a voice of analytical reasoning for both Shiro and Keith as leaders. She’s also trusted Shiro from the start because of his connection to her family. And because he’s, well, Shiro.
     2.  Trust as sacrifice: Lance edition.
Lance doesn’t seem like a very trustworthy person when you first meet him. At the very start we see him making stupid calls in the simulator, disregarding Pidge’s advice and Hunk’s anxiety so he could show off. Immediately, this backfires on him, and already the show was alluding to his bravado being something he’ll have to get a grip on. It shows he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to lead anyone anywhere. At the start, he’s almost as impulsive as Keith, taking off into Blue without a second thought and even going after Shiro against Garrison rules. He doesn’t have a personal reason like Pidge, he just wants to look cool and rescue his hero. He wants to look good in front of all these people, especially Keith and Shiro. Keith: because Lance wants to surpass him. Shiro: because he wants to impress him. He’s not entirely trustworthy at the start. It’s not until he throws himself in front of Coran after his homesickness hit that we really get a sense of him as anything but the showoff he portrays himself as. It alludes to the idea that he can earn trust through sacrificing this obnoxious part of himself. Trust, over time, for Lance, becomes about him trusting the others enough to put himself on the back-burner and encouraging them to take the wheel. Trust, for Lance, is gradually transforming into allowing the others to shine while he offers advice and encouragement from behind. That was a long rant, so let’s get to some interrelation examples. Lance and Allura, recently, is a good one: He’s endlessly supportive of her, as he realises that earning her trust and appreciation is about lifting her up, not talking himself up. She has the power, but he has the words that inspire that power. She trusts more so than the others now I think, but only after he sacrificed his role as the Blue Paladin and thus his self-promotional ways. And he trusts her to carry out her duties in Blue, better than he believed he ever could. Pidge, Hunk and Lance, hasn’t really been an evolving thing since season 1. It’s been pretty steady, but you can still see him encouraging them onwards, trusting their skills and intelligence and making sure they know it, too. Keith and Lance is a good example of stepping back to allow the other to rise up. Sacrificing his wish to pilot Black and accepting Keith instead was a BIG shift in trust for Lance. He became aware that surpassing Keith is a foolish endeavour, and how he can contribute much more by simply supporting him instead. He steps back, and offers advice and encouragement for Keith as his right hand, which allows him to pilot Red instead. The only fracture of trust I see here is Shiro and Lance. I find seeing Lance as Shiro’s right hand a little awkward. I also find Shiro disregards a lot of things Lance has to offer, mostly because he so self-assured himself, unlike Keith, who really needs Lance’s advice. We see him ignore Lance’s idea to escape in episode 6 of season 4, which ends up trapping them. Undeniably, Shiro supports Lance, we’ve seen that. But Lance isn’t Keith. Shiro is used to Keith as his right hand, not Lance. That went longgggg.
    3.   Trust as something to be earned:  Keith edition.
Trust isn’t something we see as coming naturally to Keith. The fact that Shiro seems to be his only past connection is proof of that. To earn Keith’s trust, you really have to work, and so does he. Clearly Shiro means a shit load to Keith. He places a lot of value on Shiro being the only person there for him during unknown-to-us tough times. Keith seemingly has never given his trust to anyone else, despite being in a school where there a hundreds to people to make friends with. He could have walked up to Lance or someone one day and simply said, “Hey want some tips on piloting? I can help,’ and ding ding! That’s a connection that could have stemmed into something trusting and friendly. But he doesn’t do that. He’s a ‘loner.’ My guess is he wants to trust, but due to abandonment issues, he cuts himself off, similar to Pidge. He’s terribly frightened of rejection. He doesn’t want to misplace his trust, and neither does he want people to misplace it in him. Trust is a long tenacious process for Keith. And if the issue of Kuron arises, plus the issue of Lotor’s arrival. It will really be tested. Season 3 was hopeful for his gradual expanding of trust, for the fact that he was learning to trust his team, and in turn, they were learning to trust him. And that’s only because Shiro was gone. He was pushed into the deep end and forced to really rely on the people around him like never before. He couldn’t just run away from them like he did with the Garrison because Shiro had given him a role to play. It opened up his character a lot. You can see him often using Pidge as his analytical reasoning, and Lance as his emotional one. But when Shiro returns, and they instantly slide back into the usual ‘do what Shiro says’ trap, I think some of that trust fractured. They weren’t even considering Keith’s orders anymore. Though Lance does ask Keith at one pint what they should do, not Shiro–something interesting. Keith and Hunk have a clear developing trust in each other’s skill sets, as you see Keith relying heavily on Hunk’s ‘brain’ and Hunk relying on Keith’s ability to stay calm–this more so in the Weblum episode from season 2, though. Then there is Keith and Allura, something that had been building and then fractured in season 2 with his heritage reveal, but was steadily growing again in season 3, until he decided to abandon his role in season 4. She, being determined and tested by her own leadership role, never giving up, was offended probably by his unwillingness to just bare with the hard times for a while. But you see again, she overcomes it when he explains why he was pulling away from the team. Allura herself has become a lot more empathetic towards her team now that she is a part of it.
    4.   Trust as respect: Shiro edition.
Everyone respects Shiro, period. Including us. He’s the head of Voltron, a legend on Earth and a very strong looking fella. I’d respect him if I ever met him. I’d trust him, too, because he has many moments of softness and humour which makes him likeable as well. And he’s very easy to sympathies with because of his PTSD. Everyone on team Voltron respects and trusts Shiro, too. They have since the very start. It’s been the least complicated progression of trust out of EVERYONE. Because with someone like Shiro, it’s an automatic tendency that comes along with his very role. Everyone loves and trusts Shiro. Here, I’d like to compare that to Keith, who struggled to gain the team’s trust as leader. They fell in trust with Shiro instantly, but not so much Keith, he had to fight for it. WE fell in trust with Shiro instantly. But with the entire Kuron theory, I think the point is for us and the team to fall out of trust with him. Even in season 4, the team was pretty comfortable with him as leader again, and the idea of him as a clone was not once touched, so everyone, including us wants to trust this adorable dweeb leader with big muscles and bad stage talent. Everything was entirely too comfortable with Shiro back. Keith trusts Shiro enough to give up the Black Lion as quick as possible. But it may end up biting them all on the ass. I think Shiro’s story will revolve around everyone losing their trust in him when shit gets real about his identity, and they’ll likely have to turn back to Keith. Shiro and Keith themselves trust each other an incredible amount, but perhaps a little too much. Shiro trusted Keith wholeheartedly to lead Voltron, but it scared Keith, and he didn’t see that at all. More so, he contradicted this supposed trust when he undermined Keith in season 3, which really rattled Keith. And Keith perhaps trusts Shiro too much based on their clearly heavy past together, and likely doesn’t see the warning signs of it not actually being Shiro. This, of course, is only relevant if this is a clone Shiro.
    5.   Trust as a trait: Hunk edition.
Hunk has very recently been labelled as a new diplomat for Voltron that will likely really showcase in later seasons. His heavy involvement with the Balmerans, the Puigians and the entire Coalition presents him as someone not only the team can trust, but complete strangers, too. This presents an exchange of trust the team places in him to relate to other civilisations. He’s universally recognisable as a trustworthy person. So, the team trusts him with rallying tasks like this. However, we saw it tested when he was suspicious of Rolo and Nyma, and the team disregarded his gut feelings in favour of the potential info of a rebel group. It’s clear he is bitter and perhaps slightly hurt when the team realises he was right, and that Lance had been taken advantage of and his lion captured. ‘Rant rant rant, I TOLD you so.’ Hunk is clearly annoyed about this. Everyone looks pretty glum at being told off by Hunk, but they accept it because they overlooked his warning, so it’s on them. I would love to see where Lance and Hunk’s relationship stemmed from tbh. Are they life long friends or did they meet in the Garrison? It’s obvious they are close, by the way they constantly lounge around on each other, but it doesn’t have the same emotional weight attached to it as Shiro and Keith’s relationship. There is a real sense of being comfortable around each other that Shiro and Keith struggle with as they go through this leadership issue. I noticed a lot in season 4 how much Shiro himself actually relied on Hunk’s shoulder canon for Voltron. So there is an element of brute strength earning him a respectable amount of trust from the others as well as his inviting personality.
Phewww, I’m gonna stop there because I could go on for a while. But there you have it. Some lovely analysis on some lovely characters.

We don't know if any of the other voltron characters are trans. Why can't they be our "representation"?
if you wanna headcanon shiro, lance, keith, hunk, allura, coran, or even fucking lotor as trans, you're more than welcome to it. ideally they'd all be trans, cisses be damned. the only reason I really wanted pidge to be a trans boy is because as a writer it seemed to me to be the best way to do it without it feeling shoehorned or hamfisted (according to redditors pretending to be film critics) and because there was plenty of ammo for checkhov's gun in the show's pilot. if I were in charge I'd have the scene where pidge and matt finally meet up have matt say something like "Katie is that you?" and everyone is like "who the fuck is Katie" but pidge is crying because he's finally back with his brother again and then matt's like "I missed you so much [blah blah blah] you're so grown up [blah blah blah] I like your hair but why'd you cut it all off, it was so beautiful" and the paladins are all "WHO THE FUCK IS KATIE" and pidge tells them that he was born Katie Holt and that the name Pidge Gunderson was just an alias he concocted so he could stay at the academy after getting kicked out for hacking the system, at which point matt would express he was proud of her ability to be able to hack that secure of a computer, and so Lance and Hunk are like "but why didn't you tell us, you're our bro and we don't care that you're actually a girl" and then pidge could be all like "because I realized that I was more comfortable pretending to be a guy, way more comfortable than I was when I was a girl, and eventually I realized that I wasn't pretending to be a guy anymore, and I was just being me for the first time in my life", and then allura or coran would compare it to some hero who was revered in their culture who was just like pidge (aka trans) and keith would be like "it doesn't matter how you were born, it matters who you are now, so if you wanna be pidge then you're still pidge to us whether you used to be katie or not" and shiro would be like "I always knew but I figured as such" and hunk would be like "oh so the picture in your diary was you and matt" and lance would be like "I don't really get it but if you want us to keep calling you pidge then we will because we all love you" and pidge would start crying since that's not what he expected to happen and matt comes up and is like "well I guess I'll never know my little sister... but I'm glad to meet my little brother" and it would be a big super happy cheesy family love deal that ends with a group hug or some shit and the background subtly shows them drifting past a pink white and blue space cloud or some shit (idk space terms).but if they did literally any other character to be trans in any other way I'd also be happy but they are not doing that and so I'm clinging to the salt of everyone calling pidge katie and her because the next character I'd want to have end up being trans is allura and I'd feel like a selfish asshole if I wanted to push my headcanon of a trans girl over the 6+ possible trans boys. I have seen trans man shiro headcanons I've liked, so I'm not like objectifying trans boys or anything (at least I sure fucking hope I'm not) by obsessing over pidge being one, but goddamn it I spent way too much time pushing trans pidge onto the cis 'she is basically mulan, quit making everything queer' rhetoric I saw way too much of for me to just give up on that headcanon.

why are lotor's generals called generals, when they don't do anything related to that title? is it a hint?
I’ve always assumed it was something of an exercise in nepotism/ Lotor using his influence to give his friends higher titles so they had some power to throw around too. You are right in that it doesn’t really affect much of how he relates to them, but, Lotor doesn’t really do much with Proper Military Hierarchy. None of the Generals have lieutenants, and they don’t operate on the military aristocrat system Zarkon does where each commands an individual ship and a sector in space.
Honestly my referring to them as Team Sincline is because I think that’s more accurate to what their standing was with each other, they were more a band of conspirators with Lotor leading only because he’s got the best head for strategy. Acxa, Ezor, Zethrid and Narti have a clear expectation to weigh in on policy and when Lotor makes a judgment, if they don’t see value in it, they’ll question or argue with him and this is something all five of them consider normal. Even Acxa, who seems to take Lotor’s position the most personally, will still second-guess him and raise questions.
Their operating structure is much more similar to the Voltron Paladins, which we’ve seen both the real leaders of Voltron- Shiro and Allura- take the front lines and inhabit an obvious peer relationship with their subordinates. This is unacceptable to the empire, remember- in s3e1 among Throk and his friend’s criticisms of Lotor, that he fights alongside his subordinates.
That said, I’ve always taken it as the point of s3e1 is that Lotor sort of dresses up his actually very revolutionary, contrary-to-the-empire views and attitudes in words the empire won’t react with immediate outrage to. He makes a show of playing “presentable” by the empire’s standards but in actuality he has zero intention of actually making those concessions. So I feel like slapping the “general” title on his four closest friends is part of that, as well as meaning they’re not exclusively reliant on his protection- in something as stratified as the empire, a commander would have some very built-in hesitations to challenge a general. Which that, I think, is the significance of how Lotor gave them a position that ranks above commander, where most of the fleet is.
