#I get that Rhys was also affected by the knowledge but at the end of the day it was still Feyre’s body and her autonomy and her safety

Do you really want to talk about choice when it comes to Elain?
Lucien leaves when Elain chooses not to talk to him.
Azriel leaves when Elain wants him to kiss her.
Lucien is not around because she does not want him there.
Azriel is not around because he can't stand to see their bond.
Lucien canonically told Feyre that he will learn to live with Elain sleeping in another male’s bed by talking to Rhys, someone he believed brainwashed Feyre into loving him.
Azriel canonically told Rhys he will defeat Lucien in a blood duel that could end in death if Lucien were to challenge him—not that he wouldn’t take it that far.
The only person who has put Elain above himself has been her own mate, while Azriel not once seemed to consider how Elain might have been affected by choices he made for her without her input.
Not when he chose to stay away from her, even after she dealt with Nesta’s intervention.
Not when he chose to “protect her” from searching the trove.
Not when his only contribution to their brainstorming on searching for Vassa was that Mor shouldn’t go because it’s dangerous, despite him having more knowledge of her.
Not when he also remained silent when she expressed wanting to get reacquainted with her powers.
The only choice he wholeheartedly supported was her returning the necklace because it aligned with his desire to continue staying away from her.
And last I checked, it was Lucien who whispered that Elain is his mate and that Azriel has none and had no plans whatsoever to make Elain his.

I’m curious as to what you think elain and Lucien have in common, personality wise? What do you think their story will be about? What will be their conflicts? Obstacles? Suspense? That kind of thing.
I love you for this ask and I apologize because you're probably about to get way more than you bargained for.
I'm not sure SJM has created two characters who so strongly mirror one another. Rhys and Feyre were similar but they had noticeable differences to me in terms of their personality. Like Rhys really struggles with forgiveness and letting go of the past while Feyre is pissed at 3 pm, then over it at 3:04 pm (with Tamlin it was more like 3:55 but she's even moved forward since ACOFAS while Rhys is still holding a grudge as of SF). 😂. Feyre is also more open while Rhys still tends to hold his schemes close to the vest.
But Elain and Lucien. They are these two characters who have both suffered immense losses and violations to their bodies. Yet they still internalize their anger and sadness and don't lash out at others. I think people mistakenly believe they don't have much depth as a result but I actually think it's because of their reactions that prove how much they actually feel. All the times they aren't talking, yelling, or demanding to be seen is time they're spending turning everything over in their head. They're also observing the world around them, they're watching the interactions of others. And all that time they're spending simply paying attention adds to their knowledge of how relationships and society in general function.
They have also both ended up in places that they did not choose for themselves. Their responses to that are what I'd consider both a strength and a weakness. I love their optimism and attempt to make the best out of any situation they find themselves in but at the same time, they can be too complacent as a result. They haven't learned to fight for what they want and where they want to be and instead just allow life to happen to them.
Some other very similar core values they seem to share is a respect for tradition (I actually could provide text from the books to support all this but that would end up being extremely long so I’ll spare you).  They have both mentioned an awareness of traditions and values of a certain place and why it’s important to uphold them.
They both share in the ability to apologize for having made mistakes and we actually see them make changes to their behaviors showing that they've learned from those mistakes.
It’s a weird thing to note but neither Lucien or Elain have said “Fuck”.  Lucien has said “Shit” and “Hell” and Elain has said “Hell” but I find it interesting that they both share a similar manner of speaking and neither is what I’d call crass or vulgar.  Speaking of “Hell”, they actually insult people in a similar manner and make similar jokes.  After the Human Queens left, Elain said they could all “burn in Hell” and Lucien told Amarantha she could crawl back to the shit-hole she came from (we find this out after he tells Feyre about something that was sent (Amarantha) from the shit-holes of Hell.  And they both made a joke about Amren being cranky.
They are both extremely social, good at talking to people, enjoy parties, enjoy the outdoors, and neither is afraid to show love and affection to their loved ones.  Lucien told Feyre she was a better friend to him than he was to her (I don’t necessarily agree but Lucien felt it) and Elain acknowledges that she failed Feyre (it's note worthy that it happened before Elain even has a book) but realizes she’d always been the foundation that held them up.  And both Lucien and Elain have held Feyre in their arms to comfort her at different points in the series.

As far as their story, I think it will start in Spring. Lucien is permanently stationed there as of SF and while I’m not entirely sure how Elain will end up there, there seem to be definite hints that it’s coming.  I have this weird head-cannon that I can’t seem to shake that Elain is going to feel the drums of Fire Night and find herself pulled there because the magic is calling her to restore Spring (and she’ll possibly perform in the Rite with Lucien though I could see a few problems with that, one being that if the Magic chose someone for her (even if she were unaware of who that Male was), would she again feel violated as a result?  Or would she feel connected enough to the lands that she was comfortable with it.  If she is an owl shifter than her physically get there would be easy enough. I've also considered that the book will open with her staying in the townhouse to give herself some independence after some of what happened in SF.
Even if Calanmai doesn’t happen or doesn’t happen right away, I’m still certain she’ll be going to Spring where she and Lucien will begin interacting.  I think they will both be extremely instrumental in getting Spring back on it’s feet, helping the people believe in the leadership again.  Once that happens, the armies will be in a stronger position to join in the upcoming war efforts. And I do think the reason Elain will be capable of this is that she's been gifted Goddess of Healing like powers to restore a fallen land.
I also see them traveling to the continent to help free Vassa.  It’s possible Koschei is Valg and from TOG we know that fire can defeat him though I don’t think Lucien’s fire can stand up to the lake where he’s at.  There’s a line in SF where Briallyn states Eris’s fire wouldn’t have withstood it so I think that’s a hint of something that will be a problem for Lucien.  Either this would be an opportunity for Elain to step up and use what I think are her healing powers (again, something else we know that can defeat the Valg) or maybe along with Elain’s powers, Lucien will discover more of his Day powers.  I’m not 100% if they’ll actually defeat Koschei or just manage to free Vassa while Koschei finds a way to escape from the lake.  If SJM plans on bringing the Asteri to Prythian in the final book (and depending on what number book Elucien’s would be) than I could see her having them defeat Koschei in their story since the Asteri would then be the new big bad.
Major conflicts would be both Lucien and Elain addressing their past loves and finally letting go of them so they can move forward.  Elain learning to let go of her stubbornness over something she believes wasn’t her choice and realizing that even with accepting her destiny, she still has a choice in it.  I don’t think Elain will act quite as hostile as Nesta did towards Cassian but I have no doubt we’re going to see a little fire from her when she first starts interacting with Lucien. She might touch upon how her sisters and even Az view her as someone in need of protecting when she no longer needs it.   I also think we’re going to witness the emotional bombshell that is Lucien discovering who his real father is as well as making some sort of peace with both Eris and Tamlin.  I’m not sure Lucien will ever have the same close relationship with Tamlin as he once did but I can see them finding peace with one another and then maintaining a casual acquaintance in the future.  I do see his relationship with Eris growing stronger though.
Really, there are so many loose threads surrounding both Elain and Lucien.  She would take their story in so many directions.  (Will they stay in Spring for awhile or head to Day? Will Helion be High Lord for years to come or will SJM find a way to have Lucien take over? Could Lucien step up as High King? ). Personally I don’t think the Autumn Court will play a huge role in Lucien’s book only because I feel like it would make more sense to be a focal point if Gwynriel end up together (what with her unknown grandfather and all and Eris, looking to take over the throne, as an ally of the NC.  But still.  Lucien does have ties to Autumn, Spring, Day, the Human Lands, etc. and Elain has always wanted to travel.  They both have unknown powers, they’re both sort of the underdogs of the series, they are the only Mates of the series who instantly knew they were Mates and had the bond snap into place.
I could be way off base with all of this but I just hope that the one thing I’m not wrong on is an Elucien endgame!
Also, I apologize because I was rambling with my thoughts and it might all sound a bit convoluted!

Do you think that Rhysand, Cassian and Lucien would still love Feyre, Nesta and Elain if somehow they stayed human? How do you think that would effect their relationship?
For Cassian and Rhysand, I think they would still end up with Nesta and Feyre, but it would take longer for Rhysand’s bond to form than Cassian’s. In the books, Rhysand did not know from their first meet that Feyre was his mate. It was only after Feyre was meant to go back to the Spring Court with Tamlin that he discovered. In this hypothetical scenario, I think it would take quite some time after the events of Under The Mountain for their relationship to form. I do not think that he would be embarrassed to be with her but rather he would worry how Prythian would treat her. Cassian in the books suspected from their first meeting that they were mates so I think regardless of Nesta’s species, he would have attempted to be with Nesta as soon he was able to. Lucien is a no brainer, he would want to be with Elain ASAP and would love her to bits. I think Rhysand and Cassian would end up with their mates if they stayed human, but I really want to hear your thoughts on this.
I do not think their half human children would be treated terribly by their fathers but rather Prythian at large and Illyria. High Fae society still sees full blooded humans as beneath them and half humans are not treated well. Rhysand’s children would be slightly protected by his status in Prythian as High Lord, but them being half human would still negatively affect them. For Cassian, the fate of his hypothetical children would be grim. The Illyrians value physical strength, which is something that the children would be lacking because they are half human. I think they would have a hard time in the camps. I do not think he would be a bad father but his desire to show them his heritage would lead to a lot of issues for them. High Fae society would never accept them, so they would never be able to live peacefully outside of Illyria. Lucien would do his best to protect them, but it would only work a little. How do you think Prythian would treat the half human child of a High Lord? How do you think Illyria would treat a child that is half human?
Oof, that would make all of their stories so tragic! Ianthe may be a bitch but she was right about Lucien (and Cassian, and Rhys) being sad if their mates remained human.
Since I just reread acotar, there are moments in that book where I was like, Rhys must know. He's acting like he knows, not just because he has his Super Secret Not Evil persona and we get to see the Real Rhysand, but there are ways that he's acting that don't align with him not knowing. Like Clare Beddor - I get that it's easier to protect someone he had talked to (Feyre) than it would be to protect a woman he's never met (Clare) but he didn't have to give Amarantha a name at all. Why protect Feyre at that point, especially when he knew it would hurt Tamlin? So I do wonder if it was more like, he had a funny mental itch and couldn't explain it/didn't put it together with the bond, much like Feyre was with him for months.
IMO, if a half-human child of a High Lord or even of a super strong Illyrian were also proven to have considerable power, that might weigh more heavily than the fact that they are part human. It seems like they value power more than anything else, it's just that their judgement/evaluation of power is tied closely to their own in-world racism. Which... is pretty similar to our own world, it's just that in our world power is based on money, race, gender, social connections, cultural knowledge, education, etc. rather than some poorly explained magic system.
Their children probably would have to work much harder to prove themselves - I can see them being tested, bullied, mocked, etc. until they came into their power. And this being sjm, they would have that in spades.
However, there do seem to be enough high fae who aren't total dicks so that perhaps the stratification would change? Like I can't see Kallias, Helion, or Tarquin going along with this, just like I can't see "lesser" fae playing along 100%. Lots of them rebelled against Amarantha, and there is an argument to be made that they did so out of self preservation rather than a sense of justice. But perhaps?
In my dreams, the Cauldron takes away all High Lord powers and redistributes the magic evenly. But even though that will never happen, I can see a scenario where lots of other fae, and the non-asshole High Fae, recognize their bigotry for what it is and work against it. Again, maybe just in our heads, but still. The possibility is there in how she has characterized some of the High Lords, and some of the lesser fae (e.g. Balthazar, Emerie, Cassian, the Suriel). I think that however Illyria is handled (or not) in future books could give us a lot of insight as to whether a Prythian-style social justice movement is possible, or if it truly was just a moment for sjm to say that Rhys is not actually a dick.
(Sorry this took so long to get to, I didn't plan on taking that break in October/November :D)

world building cause twn doesn't part 11: witchers
we all love witchers, they're dramatic, they're sexy, and they're very important. some might say they are the namesake of the entire series. also, fair warning that it gets very geeky and into the bits of polish media that are hardly relevant for twn at all, so feel free to skip after the cut.
an asterisk means the bullet point is not from the saga, but has the same canon deal as the games– it could happen and would not affect the original canon, so do with that what you will
colour code cause i fucking love colour codes - already happened/introduced, probably s2, important background info, stuff that might be in the prequel, extras
series masterpost
history
witchers, also known as vatt'ghern in elder speech, have been around in some form for a really long time
when humans started populating on the continent in the late 700s, they encountered a lot of scary shit that they had no idea how to deal with
for around 200 years people just got eaten, until around 950 when the kings hired some slightly mad mages to create a magical knightly class to kick monster ass. they called this class the order of witchers, beginning the first age of witchers
the main mages and leaders of the order, cosimo malaspina and his student alzur, started with creating witchers from adults. this didn't work, so alzur kidnapped 38 children and brought them to rissberg castle in western temeria. yeah. these were not good dudes
Tumblr media
alzur developed the first witcher trials, putting the children through first physical training and then alchemical processes designed to mutate them into witchers.
the physical training had a lot of climbing cliffs, running obstacle courses of death, and hitting each other with sticks. before alzur could even start mutating the kids, 4 had died
the alchemical processes started with giving the children shrooms and toxic tea, which this ended up killing a large amount of them. however, after a month, the first witcher was created. a week later, erland of larvik (hes important for later) finished the process. by the end, there were only 5 alive.
these 5 were continuously trained by the best hunters, trackers, mages, alchemists, and warriors on the continent. however, the whole point of making witchers was to have magically enhanced knights, and none of these five had exceptional magic powers, so the whole process was officially declared a failure
cosimo and alzur didn't agree, so they took the 5 witchers to the abandoned morgraig castle in the remote kaedweni kestrel mountains to continue training the existing witchers and create some new ones*
after the originals set out on the path, the mages kept creating more witchers. in the winter, they would all go back to morgraig castle to spend time together and mourn those who had died
after a while, the original leaders of the order had left and the witchers started in-fighting, tricking each other, and even threatening to kill each other just for a contract
this escalated until a witcher named arnaghad nearly killed another witcher named rhys. when the order told arnaghad that this was super against the rules, he summoned his crew and they battled the order. arnaghad's group lost, so they left the order and travelled south to the amell mountains in nazair and formed a new witcher school - the school of the bear*
the drama didn't end here, however. a group of bear school witchers decided they didn't like arnaghad and tried to kill him. these witchers then travelled to the far southeastern tir tochair mountains and founded the school of the viper*
these two schools became especially famous for their chronic backstabbing, and public opinion began to turn on witchers. the other witchers were obviously not pleased with this, so twenty of the others left the order and decided to try and help witchers regain respect.
these 20 took tons of alchemical and mutagenic knowledge and equipment with them, planning to improve the recipe used to make witchers. they travelled south to ebbing, where they eventually settled in stygga castle and formed the school of the cat
however, the cat school was all the way across the continent from morgraig castle, so the advancements they made didn't really help the order. the remaining original witchers were feeling a little bummed and useless, but they didn't want to cause some huge problems by leaving to form their own school.
fortunately, our friend erland of larvik was the diplomatic leader of this group. he explained to the remaining order members why he wanted to leave, and then peacefully took 13 of his bros to the far northern kingdom of kovir. they settled at the kaer seren fortress and called themselves the school of the griffin*
the last witchers of the order figured there was no reason to stay in the practically-abandoned morgraig castle, so they travelled to eastern kaedwen and formed the school of the wolf, headquartered at the kaer morhen fortress
these schools turned out to be a pretty good idea, since they were so spread out their respective witchers rarely encountered one another and were cold but civil when they did.
the establishment of these five schools ended the first age of witchers, but began the period where the schools flourished, known as the golden age
here are the general locations of the 5 schools
Tumblr media
training and the trials
"the trials" is the collective term for the processes that young boys go through with the goal of becoming witchers. it was initially developed by alzur and contained physical/combat training followed by mutations, but was later expanded to include monster knowledge, use of potions, and magic
the trials begin with the choice, which is kinda what it sounds like; a voluntary decision to commit to a witcher's diet and training, both incredibly gruelling and frequently led to heart or liver failure, insanity, and/or death
a witcher's training can be divided into physical and mental. physical training includes swordplay, hand to hand combat, use of magic, obstacle courses, tracking, and hunting. mental training is about studying alchemy, monsters, and herbalism
the diet is really just a lot of shrooms. like, a lot of shrooms
the first big trial is the incredibly painful trial of the grasses. it gets its name from an alchemical mix known as the grasses: corn lily, nightshade, speargrass, wildrye and wolfsbane
the entire trial takes about a week, beginning with drinking a tea made from the grasses. the adepts would then be tied down and intravenously given herbs and elixirs, the most deadly step of the trial. those who survived would fall into a disturbed sleep characterized by glassy eyes, ragged breathing, and coughing, which would progress to vomiting and seizures after the elixirs were administered again. they would fight the herbs, elixirs, and viruses in their bodies until the seventh day, when they woke up with cat eyes. only 3 out of 10 survived, gaining heightened senses, slowed aging, faster reflexes and metabolism, and superior strength
the gwent card for the trial of the grasses paints a lovely picture
Tumblr media
how slow is this aging? very. vesemir, the oldest witcher alive, is around 290 and looks like a middle aged man. unfortunately, this isn't a profession that allows for death from old age, but i'd assume witchers have the life spans of aen seidhe elves: 350 ish years
the fast metabolism is responsible for a lot of cool things that come with being a witcher, their bodies naturally run warmer and are therefore less susceptible to infections and better equipped for freezing cold winters, they heal incredibly quickly, toxic potions aren't really a big deal, and they're horny all the time. yeah, it's canon. you can hear geralt explain it to some school children here.
the next trial is the trial of the dreams, in which the witchers in training basically trip balls under the supervision of druids or mages. it enhances the abilities from the trial of the grasses and grants night vision, but also makes witchers sterile.
the last trial is the trial of the mountains, which is a test of physical strength, survival, and combat skills. there's no real standard process here since different schools have different environments, but it's usually a specific and dangerous course the adepts need to run.
after this trial, the adepts receive their medallions and officially become witchers
the trials are meant to not only train witchers but to prepare them for the dangers of life on the path, so by nature survival is rare and indicates high skill.
however, on the rare occasion that a master witcher does not believe that a student is ready, they can have the student go through an additional trial known as the trial of the sword. this is really just a kill or be killed combat where the adept must prove their skill.
the path
the path is really just the outside world where a witcher will do their witchering. most witchers go on the path for the first time in the spring after they finish the trials, and then return to their schools in the winter
it's obviously quite a dangerous life, witchers often don't know that their brothers have died until they just don't come back for the winter
especially since humans don't really like them, and it's hugely common that witchers get cheated out of their money or even tricked and killed by villagers
why don't humans like these wonderful monster killers? it really varies. witchers are quite secretive about their lives, so people tend to fill in the gaps. negatively, i might add
that's where we get the myth that witchers have no emotions, which is completely untrue. witchers do tend to be fairly low-affect, like they wouldn't really react to death or sickness or war in general, but it's probably more because they've seen it all before than that they don't care
many witchers have incredibly strong bonds with their brothers, horses, and mentors. of course, geralt and his family are a lot closer than most witchers would be to theirs, but the basic capacity for emotion stands
people also think that witchers will steal their children, which is sort of partly true? the vast majority of children who become witchers are child surprises of other witchers, but it's important to note that there just aren't that many witchers out there
more accurate is the belief that witchers will steal your girl. now many of our lads can and will be monogamous, but countless more just... won't.
a lot of human hatred for witchers is just plain racism. witchers aren't really considered nonhuman, witchering is more of a profession than a separate race, but they are called nonhuman as an insult both to them and actual nonhumans. it's complicated.
you may have heard geralt grumble something about the witcher's code, which, as cool as it sounds, isn't real. the order had a set of moral objectives they wanted to serve, but that died with them. geralt heard about this and knew that no one knows what the witcher's code is, so he would make it up whenever he didn't want to do something. i love that energy
the closest thing most witchers have to a code is their commitment to neutrality, which is basically just what it sounds like but a lot more complicated.
it doesn't mean that witchers can't play a force in politics, since there's a lot of perfectly normal witchering things that can be argued to change the political climate, especially in a time of war.
it does mean that witchers cannot commit to a political cause, like enlisting in the army or assassinating a king. geralt is famous for not giving a shit about this rule. literally. that's a big part of where his fame comes from. he was knighted while his poet gigolo boyfriend sat there and reported on it.
it's also important to note that neutrality is more of a school's commitment than an individual witcher's. for example, when nilfgaard tried to buy out the viper school, they straight up said no because that would be committing their entire school to a cause. however, when nilfgaard went to hire a few viper witchers as assassins, they agreed. yeah, this was frowned upon since it is certainly not neutral, but it's a lot more common than entire schools breaking the rule.
magic, alchemy, and equipment
witcher potions are very useful, but also highly toxic, and would definitely kill a normal person. even with mutations that make potions much safer, witchers have limits and can't use too many potions at once
signs are simple spells that don't take the years of training and genetic predisposition required for most magic. they can be cast easily with one hand and in the middle of combat, or just when you need a bit of spice in your day. we know of 8 signs, but it's entirely possible there are more
aard - a simple but powerful telekenetic super punch
axii - jedi mind tricks
hate reflecting sign - used almost exclusively by the wolf school to reflect a monster's bloodlust back on itself. especially helpful for a particularly angry monster like adda the white when she was in striga form.
heliotrope - a shield that absorbs a singular impact, needs to be timed well as it disappears in a few seconds. best for blocking single massive attacks, like when you wake up a hung over sorceress and she tries to turn you into kentucky friend witcher
igni - turn your hand into a magical flame thrower
quen - a shield that is active until broken, best for buying time under fire or waiting for an sneak attack
Tumblr media
somne - puts someone to sleep
yrden - creates an area that monsters can't enter, if they do they are slowed down and forced into their corporeal form (if they don't already have one)
witchers are proficient with practically any weapon, but of course they're are known for their two swords, steel for humans and silver for monsters
they're both for monsters OoOooOoOO
some carry crossbows as well, but that's definitely rarer
all witchers also have a medallion in the shape of the animal of the school where they were trained, these medallions don't only distinguish different schools of witchers but can sense magic in the world
keep reading if you honestly have nothing better to do
the school of the bear*
Tumblr media
the bear school was founded by the rebel arnaghad after he left the order with 13 other witchers. they knew they wouldn't exactly be popular, so they travelled south and built the haern caduch fortress in the amell mountains
the mountains are freezing cold and inaccessible, before the witchers they were only populated by gnomes and dwarves. the bears did establish decent relations with these two, but still mostly kept to themselves.
they're definitely the most solitary school, some would sail to skellige to avoid other witchers
there's no real sense of brotherhood between bear school witchers, they've been known to fight each other if they have a chance encounter on the path
the bears needed to adjust to their new much much colder environment, so they began using heavy armour and prioritizing defense over agile attacks. bears are also the only school other than the cat to widely use crossbows
this is reflected in their trial of the mountains, in which students had to run to the peak of mount gorgon and bring back a special runestone. most froze to death on the way and their bodies became trail markers for future generations
because they're so reclusive, we don't really know many bear school witchers or if there are even any left
the school declined after a chunk of them broke off to form the school of the viper, but the official breaking point was when some angry and war-weary villagers climbed all the way up to haern caduch and started rioting after the bears failed to deal with some vampires
the school itself didn't have a dramatic end, it was already rare that witchers would spend winters together and they just didn't care enough to defend their keep. the remaining bears took still contracts in surrounding areas and haern caduch still stands, although covered in snow, if any wished to visit again
the school of the viper*
Tumblr media
why did a group of witchers led by a man called ivar evil-eye chose to leave the infamous kinslaying bears? because they weren't dramatic enough. this should tell you a lot about the viper's vibe
their main gripe was that the bear school frowned upon taking contracts on people. also known as being a hitman.
clearly they didn't want intruders, so they found an even more remote location than haern caduch, the tir tochair mountains.
these mountains have the last large settlement of gnomes, and are located between the nilfgaardian province of geso and the korath desert (aka the frying pan aka if you end up here you will be stuck here and die).
they built their keep literally into the mountains and named it gorthur gvaed, but it was sometimes called the blood gate keep. intimidating.
the founders also really wanted to take on the wild hunt, so they created a school to train witchers to help out. the libraries of gorthur gvaed arguably contain the most complete collection of information about the wild hunt on the continent
unfortunately for those of us who want to fight the wild hunt but fortunately for the hunt itself, the vipers were super super secretive about their knowledge and never shared it
viper teachers were notoriously cold and cruel to their students, but in different ways than other witcher teachers. the viper version of the trial of the mountain doesn't include a mountain at all, instead the adepts had to kill the pet they had been given at their arrival at gorthur gvaed.
the viper fighting style was the direct opposite of that of the bears, they would wield two weapons and use unpredictable and rapid attacks to overwhelm their opponent. armour was light and flexible, allowing for as much movement as possible. vipers also loved using their alchemical knowledge to coat their blades in poison
when the usurper was collecting power in nilfgaard, he heard of some super killers with shady morals and wanted to recruit them. the vipers refused due to their neutrality and the usurper destroyed gorthur gvaed and the school with it. oops?
apparently, the refusal to work for the nilfgaardians was not a sentiment shared by future generations of vipers. in the 1270s a small group of vipers were hired by emperor emhyr var emreis to kill the northern kings and create chaos in the north. he called them the kingslayers, which isn't very creative but quite accurate and intimidating.
this did break the vow of neutrality, but only on behalf of the kingslayers and not the whole school. however, it definitely gave all vipers a reputation as assassins
the most prolific kingslayer, letho of gulet, enjoyed this line of work so much that he started looking for employers outside of nilfgaard.
philippa eilhart and sheala de tancarville hired him to kill king demavend of aedirn, which gave letho enough of a reputation to be hired by the scoia'tael to kill king foltest of temeria
two other kingslayers, serrit and auckes, were tasked to kill king henselt of kaedwen but failed and died in the process.
we don't meet any vipers other than the kingslayers, but letho mentions that there are at least two still alive
the school of the cat
Tumblr media
the cat school is my personal favourite because they are so fucking interesting. they're absolutely awesome.
the school started with around 20 witchers in the order who were getting a bit irritated with the order's lack of well, order. they really wanted to improve the witcher recipe, so they took a huge amount of alchemical and mutagenic ingredients, tools, and formulas when they left
they travelled south to the famous stygga castle, which has been occupied by numerous politically shady organizations over the years due to its seclusion. it's very rare that anyone not associated with the current owners know where the castle even is, and if they did they would probably be hunted down
cat witchers broke the vow of neutrality that previous schools took, like... a lot. as in they encouraged their students to work as spies and assassins for the local rulers to help make the school more popular.
luckily for them, it worked! the cat witchers didn't just deal with monsters, but bandits and warlords too, and were very well liked by the locals
unfortunately, the success was pretty short lived. remember those formulas the cats took with them to improve the witcher recipe? yeah, they worked. really well. as in the first batches had almost no emotions at all, they didn't even seem human.
but in the spirit of progress, the cats wanted to make their witchers even better. but, they didn't have any test subjects that weren't monster killing zombies. the solution? make some witchers with extremely enhanced and unpredictable emotions, throw them in cages, and run tests on them! yikes
one of these literal lab rats, a young witcher named gezras, managed to free the other survivors and escape stygga. they ended up with a group of aen seidhe guerrillas, who helped hide them in exchange for their fighting skills. this definitely saved gezras and his friends' lives, but was yet another hit to the school's reputation*
as a reaction, some of the local nobility (who didn't even know the school had split), began to plan an attack on stygga castle. right before the forces arrived, however, gezras and his allies snuck into the castle, killed the mages and witchers who had tortured them, and snuck out without warning the other witchers about the incoming attack. everyone still inside when the soldiers arrived ended up dead in three days*
without any leaders or home base, gezras took the surviving witchers north. along the way, they picked up mercenaries, other disillusioned witchers, and nonhumans, forming the dyn marv caravan, the new nomadic headquarters of the cat school*
a big part of the caravan was that they rejected mages, but were also big into trying to improve the witcher recipe. this led to some seriously terrible variations on the trials (ie human experimentation) that earned them a solidly awful reputation that was made worse when the caravan supported aelireen in her rebellion against humans*
eventually, the caravan settled like right next to kaer morhen, the headquarters of the school of the wolf. most of the witchers actually got on quite well, but a small group of cats led by this idiot named treyse wanted to be special. they made a deal with the kaedweni king radowit's mage astrogarus that in exchange for killing the wolves, they would be the leaders of a new special kaedweni witcher order*
the older members of the school, like the then-leader guxart, knew this was a terrible idea, but were arrested by the kaedwenis so they couldn't interfere*
surprise surprise, this was indeed a terrible idea. after the cats attacked the wolves, radowit told his men to kill all the surviving witchers from both schools, including treyse. turns out the king didn't like all the witchers in the area and wanted them dealt with. the few cats who survived were permanently banned from taking shelter in any other schools*
eventually, guxart got out of prison on the condition that he would keep his witchers far away from king radowit*
the school declined significantly after this, but officially ended when soldiers took control of the caravan, killing most of the witchers. all hopes of revival were dashed when one of the few survivors killed the others to obtain some armour diagrams*
yeah, the story of the cat school is very dramatic. i wouldn't expect much less from them.
the school had a reputation for being extremely emotional and unpredictable, they had no issue with taking contracts on humans or even other witchers. the cat school is also the only one to train women and nonhumans, and they were publicly sympathetic towards elves, even fighting on their side against the northern realms.
their fighting style is similar to that of the vipers, relying on speed, agility, and accuracy. cat weapons aren't very powerful, but lightweight and precise and designed for deadly hits, like a crossbow. armour is also incredibly flexible and lightweight, made to be easily repaired on the road.
one of the cat trials is walking a tightrope blindfolded, they would practice this throughout their training on increasing heights that eventually became deadly if failed.
some cat witchers we meet are brehen of iello, aiden, jad karadin, kiyan, and gaetan.
the school of the griffin
Tumblr media
they're literally the opposite of the cats. erland of larvik and 13 of his friends left the order amicably and travelled west to one of alzur's old fortresses, kaer seren in kovir. apparently it was haunted, but they're witchers so it wasn't a problem
the school was strictly neutral and placed high value on knightly virtues, training was focused on magic, preparedness, and etiquette. the older griffins were mentors and parents, not just teachers, for the younger ones. erland made his school sort of like a family, kaer seren even had a graveyard to bury griffins who had died.
griffins were definitely the most respected by the north, their masters would even be summoned to give advice to kings, especially on matters related to magic.
their fighting style emphasized powerful signs and taking on multiple opponents at once, cause that's just awesome. griffin armour was medium weight, light enough to offer good movement but heavy enough for the freezing temperatures at kaer seren.
griffins were expected to be polite and kind to everyone, and had no issue killing dragons. those are unrelated though. you can be an ass who lets dragons live.
the library at kaer seren had a huge collection of magical information, but it was all destroyed when some local angry villagers caused an avalanche that killed multiple witchers and made the fortress pretty much unusable
fortunately, the surviving witchers were well liked enough that other schools offered them shelter in the winter. that's why coën got to hang out with the wolf witchers, and the griffin attitude is definitely why he was the most comfortable with ciri
other than coën and erland, the only moderately important griffin witcher is keldar, an expert on monsters and mentor to coën, who still guards the ruined kaer seren*
the school of the wolf
definitely the one you are most familiar with, the school of the wolf was the last school founded when the few remaining witchers in the order decided to join the new age of witchers
Tumblr media
they chose the recently abandoned kaer morhen fortress in kaedwen as their headquarters, and quickly earned a reputation as a professional and reliable institution. they even helped hide count esteril thyssen and his wife agnes from the angry king videmont.
unfortunately, in around 1170 some angry mages and priests led a mob that attacked kaer morhen and killed every witcher inside. the school recovered somewhat, but a few years later the massacre from the school of the cat happened and nearly all witchers from before the attacks had died
the last children trained in kaer morhen were trained in the 1230s, but by then the only pre-pogrom witcher alive was vesemir, a fencing teacher with little knowledge of how to carry out the trials, so the school couldn't make any new witchers.
however, vesemir kept spending winters in the keep with a few of his younger witchers, geralt, eskel, lambert, and later, the griffin witcher coën. kaer morhen also housed geralt's child surprise, ciri, and eskel's, deidre, for a while, and was open to witchers from all schools except the cat and viper.
wolf fighting was similar to that of the griffin, they used mixed attacks and medium-weight armour and valued relationships with each other, but did not place as high a value on magic
other than vesemir, eskel, geralt, and lambert, the witchers leo and berengar were also from the school of the wolf
future
by the 1250s, all the schools were functionally extinct, although a few witchers still travelled the continent doing the same work as always
alzur never shared his process for creating witchers except to his students, who then shared it to their students and so on. however, enough massacres and pogroms happened that gaps in knowledge grew and it's impossible and impractical even to try to make more witchers

Pre-mating bond reveal Feysand Smut request! Featuring feyre in some lingerie and a whipped Rhys ps. I love your fics
On the long, never-ending list of things I need to be doing right now, this is definitely at the bottom.
I need to find out what Azriel learned from his spies in the human realm, make sure Amren and Cassian haven’t gone to wreck the Summer Court, and pay my taxes.
Watching Feyre shop for lingerie is below the fucking taxes. It’s below everything.
And yet here I am, staring with too much interest as she runs her finger along lacy unmentionable after lacy unmentionable.
I’m mesmerized, desperate to know which one she’ll choose to buy. The simple knowledge that she has it will torture me, but I don’t even care. I have to know.
Five minutes go by, then ten.
I follow her like the whipped little bitch I am as she circles the store once more, making sure my face doesn’t betray my interest in the teal little thing in the corner.
“You know what, I don’t think I’ll get anything,” she announces suddenly, turning to me to analyze me with those beautiful, too-observant blue eyes of hers.
“Alright.”
“I mean, do men--sorry, males--even care about this kind of thing? Or do they just prefer their women to be naked?” She peers up at me, lips curved into an innocent smile. “Which do you prefer?”
“Last I checked, I don’t have any women.”
She shrugs like that’s irrelevant. “You’re buying it. You should have an opinion.”
Before I can even start to respond, she’s closing in on me, putting a hand against my chest and leaning in co-conspiratorially. “Hypothetically, if you were to come home to find me draped across your bed, what would you prefer I be wearing?”
She grabs something off one of the racks, and the feel of lace on my arm makes blood shoot straight to my crotch. “Something like this? Or nothing at all?”
My jaw aches from being clenched so hard, and there’s absolutely no way I can respond, so I just shrug.
Feyre smiles knowingly and flits across the store, snatching up the piece I’d been subtly--at least I thought--eyeing the entire time.
She drops it on the counter and gestures over her shoulder to me. “I’ll take this. He’s paying.”
I roll my eyes but nod when the clerk looks at me, and she makes a valiant attempt at hiding a smile. Once the damned thing is wrapped up, Feyre slips the bag on her arm and gives me a bright smile.
“I’m going home.”
My chest clenches at that word, just like it always does, but I ignore it. “I’ll walk you.”
“No, thanks. I’ve got what I wanted from you,” she teases, shaking the bag in my face. “But who knows? Maybe in... two or three hours when you come home, I’ll be waiting for you.”
Fucking hell, she’s going to kill me.
But the question is... is she just teasing me, or is she serious?
~
Exactly two and a half hours later, I find out.
She was fucking serious.
She’s...
Ah, fuck.
Fuck.
I’m frozen in the door, staring at her, and I can’t think about anything besides how right this feels.
Coming home to find her in my bed, wearing some wonderfully indecent negligible, looking at me with so much blatant lust it almost chokes me.
It’s so fucking right.
But it’s also wrong, because she doesn’t even know why it’s right.
Because I still, still, haven’t told her that she’s mated to me.
Because I’m stupid.
Stupid or not, I realize I’ve been standing here like some mute idiot for a little too long. “Hello, Feyre darling.”
She smiles at me, a warm smile that makes my chest ache, and I grip the doorframe to keep myself from striding to her and tasting it.
If she knew, she wouldn’t smile like that. She’d probably scream at me and rage and curse the gods for giving her someone like me.
And I don’t want to tell her, because I’m selfish and love the look on her face. Right now... right now she’s looking at me like I’m everything.
With a dramatic flourish that makes my lips twitch, she throws the cover off of herself, allowing me an unobstructed view of the overpriced contraption I bought earlier tonight.
It’d stood out to me because of the color. The bright turquoise is almost the exact shade of her eyes, and it’s beautiful against the pale backdrop of her skin.
The color, however, is not what my mind is focused on.
It’s focused on the way the lace frames the smooth swell of her hips, the way its not exactly solid enough to hide the rosy color of her nipples, the way the thin, feeble straps are slipping off her shoulders.
No longer able to stop myself, I stroll over and brace my hands against the edge of the bed.
I take another long look, starting at her pretty red toenails and ending at the challenging look in her eyes.
“Hi, Rhysand.” She says my name slowly, like a woman who knows she has a man in the palm of her hand. “So? Do you like it? Or would you prefer me in nothing at all?”
“You’ll have to give me a comparison,” I respond, forcing my eyes away from the swell of her breasts for a moment. “But maybe later. Right now, I’m interested in this little get up. It did cost me quite a bit of money, you know.”
Reaching out, I grab her ankles and slide them around until her body’s facing me.
“I’m afraid I can’t see all of it, though.”
She understands and smoothly turn over, putting the rest of the little set on wide display.
And by the rest of it, I mean the tiny slip of blue lace resting above the curve of her backside.
She’s temptation incarnate, a woman designed by the gods to drive me happily to insanity.
“Hm,” I murmur nonchalantly, running my finger along the material softly but not touching the skin I’m suddenly desperate to bite.
She shivers, and the fact that I’m affecting her but barely even touching her does little harm for my ego.
Reminding myself yet again that I should walk out of this room and lock the door behind me, I put a hard boundary in place.
I can’t fuck her.
Not yet. Not while she doesn’t know who I really am to her.
But that doesn’t mean I can’t satisfy the insane curiosity that’s been demanding for weeks I find out how she tastes.
“Turn over again.” She complies, and I lean to press a kiss to the top of her ankle. “Now spread those pretty legs for me, Feyre darling.”
Slowly, her feet slide apart on the sheet, and I trace the movement to look at the apex of her thighs. My hands glide up her skin, and she sighs, the sound so goddamn pretty I have to take a deep breath to calm myself.
I press a kiss to the inside of her thigh, and her hand shoots out to grab my hair and force my eyes back to hers. “I want-”
I know what she’s going to say, so I cut her off. “And while I’d love to give you anything and everything you want, we don’t have time.”
“We have all night.”
“Mm, true.” Another kiss, but this time I dart my tongue out to taste her skin. Holy fuck, she’s perfect. “But when I fuck you, Feyre, I’ll need longer than one night. I’ll need days, maybe even weeks. I’ll need you to be so strung out on me you can’t breathe, so desperate you beg. And we’ll definitely need to be out of the city, because I plan on making you scream my name loud enough to wake the dead.”
It isn’t the whole truth, but not one word was a lie.
It seems to do the trick because Feyre settles back, raises an eyebrow, and says, “Proceed, then.”
She’s trying to play it like she’s so unaffected, despite the fact I can smell her arousal and see the way she’s clenching the bedsheet.
I slid to my knees, bowing before my mate, and pull her ankles until her legs rest over my shoulders. I realize my wings are out, yet another testament to how different this is, how unhinged I’m becoming.
For a moment, I just familiarize myself with the feel of her skin, so unbelievably soft and warm against my palms. She lets me touch her, leaning up on her elbows to watch.
Making eye contact with her, I lean down and press my nose to the apex of her thighs. And inhale.
Even though it’s been teasing me for the past five minutes, the full scent of her hits me like a punch to the gut, and a low, satisfied sound escapes my throat.
She blushes, color blooming high on her cheeks, and I smile up at her.
Mumbling something I’m too distracted to hear, she falls back on the bed and puts a hand over her face.
Is she... praying?
Gods, I’m going to enjoy this. I’m going to drive her crazy, make her feel as undone as I do.
As soon as I can figure out how to get this fucking contraption off her.
Lace and little straps are everywhere, and I mess with it for a minute before giving up and just ripping the bottom half off.
“Rhysand,” she scolds, like I wasn’t the one to buy the damn thing.
I’d reply, say something witty, but now she’s bare before me, and the sight of her thighs spread for me, the obvious sign of her arousal... it undoes me.
My mouth is on her before I can think about it, tongue tasting her and immediately dipping inside for more because holy hell.
She tastes better than anything I’ve ever had. Better than cool water on the hottest day, fresh sweets, ripe fruit, whatever.
A low groan meets my ears, igniting a fire in my blood, but I keep my pace slow, not wanting this to ever end.
Her hips start shifting, desperate for more friction, but I hold them still and keep her exactly where I want her. I run my tongue around her clit, then suck on it gently, and her thighs tighten around my head.
“Rhys.”
The name I’ve heard for five hundred years has never sounded better, and as soon as we’re done here, I’m making it a law that no one but her can say it.
I kiss her slowly, keep going until she’s panting and cursing and saying my name over and over and over.
She comes on my tongue, attempting to strangle me with her lovely thighs, but I don’t stop. I honestly don’t think I can.
I taste her until I’m drunk on it, breathe her in until she’s all I can smell, fill my hands with her soft skin.
I can tell she’s getting close again, so right as release hits her, I slip two fingers inside her and shift my mouth to her inner thigh, sucking on the skin until it’s sure to leave a mark.
I’m trying not to be too possessive, but the thought of her walking around with a little reminder of whose mouth was on her drives me a little crazy. I push my fingers into her again, kissing the other thigh.
Gods, the feel of her around me... her smell surrounding me... it’s almost too much.
She seems to agree.
“Rhys,” she pants, half sobbing. She’s limp on the bed, legs trembling as I kiss them. “It’s too much. You’re too much. I can’t-”
Dropping a kiss to her hip bone, I crawl up her body, bracing myself on my free hand.
The other keeps moving as I lean down to brush my lips across her ear. “You can, and you will. I’ve wanted you for weeks, Feyre darling, and I’m not about to stop at two measly little orgasms.”
I push my fingers into her a little harder for emphasis, and she arches up into me, pressing her breasts against my chest. “I think you’re trying to kill me.”
“I would never let anything happen to you,” I tell her, meaning the words. Hell, I’d mean them even if she wasn’t my mate.
Her head falls back as she gives in to the pleasure we both know she wants, and I drop a kiss the arch of her neck as a reward.
She hums, a happy little mmm sound that makes me grin.
Her hips lift and circle as she rides my hand, and as she breathes my name again in that husky little tone, I can’t hold out anymore.
I kiss her, exactly how I’ve wanted to since the moment I first saw her.
Her head tilts, lips opening for me, and it sends a bolt of pure fucking joy through me at how natural it is.
An entirely different emotion shoots through my veins as she sucks on my tongue. I know she can taste herself, and the thought makes my cock throb. I’m lying further down then she is, so I press my hips into the mattress to relieve some tension.
Not that it helps when I know exactly how she feels around my fingers and how much better she’d feel around a different part of me.
I nip her lip for being so annoyingly perfect, and she wraps her arms around my neck, using her hands in my hair to pull me closer.
She’s kissing me back, kissing me as if she can’t get enough, and it’s like a fever broke out and consumed us, driving us to a frenzy.
I realize I’ve horribly ignored her breasts and shift to tug the lacy blue bralette down far enough to free them. The tips go rigid under my stare, and for a moment all I can do is try to remember how to breathe.
Then I capture one in my mouth, circling the tip with my tongue in time with the movements of my hand.
“Fuck, that feels good,” she murmurs, the words an incentive as I switch to her other breast.
I’m all over her, pressing kisses to her chest and neck and mouth like I can’t get enough.
Because I can’t. No amount of this will ever be enough.
Eventually, her grip on my hair starts to tighten, and I press my lips to her ears to whisper, “Come for me, Feyre darling.”
Probably for the first and only time, she does what I tell her. As soon as her mouth opens to release a sound that’ll probably make me come in my pants, I capture her lips with mine.
I keep going until every last little helpless whimper stops, then pull my fingers out and lift up slightly to look at her.
Flushed cheeks, wide eyes, kissed lips. Beautiful.
For a second, we just lay there and stare at each other, and I swear to gods, the words are right on the tip of my tongue. You’re my mate, Feyre.
Fuck, I want to tell her.
If only for the two percent probability that she doesn’t try to kill me or become disappointed by the news. The thought of that two percent, of what it’d feel like to be loved by her--not just desired--is almost enough to risk it.
But in the end, I’m a coward, drawing away from her and pulling the sheet over her. “Sleep,” I say softly, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
She reaches for me. “Rhysand, I can-”
“It’s okay, gorgeous. This was about you.” She blinks up at me, blue eyes so godsdamn bright. I brush a finger over her cheek and say honestly, “I wanted this to be about you.”
“Okay,” she whispers back, obviously exhausted enough to not argue, turning on her side and getting comfortable in my bed. I know her smell will be all over my sheets tomorrow, one more temptation I’ll have to deal with. “But next time, it’s about you.”
I get to my feet before I can commence next time. The thought of her hands on me... I could sit still and let that woman touch me all day, and I wouldn’t get bored.
I walk to the door, and stop in the frame to look at her again. She’s already asleep, dark blonde hair bright against the black of the sheets.
Gods, I can’t live without her.
Over five hundred years on this earth, and I’m completely wrapped around the finger of a woman who doesn’t even realize it.
I know I’m not worthy of her, but I also know that if by some miracle she doesn’t run in the other direction when I tell her about the mating bond, I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to be.

A Few Notes About ADSOM’s Writing/Themes Type Stuff
Because I’m in the mood to ramble and have a few opinions about some smaller things in the series that I actually think are really cool/smart writing. This is all personal opinion and is based on a bunch of half-formed thoughts and realizations, so if you disagree or think I missed something, please know I probably did, I’m just jotting this down for fun and have not fully explored all these concepts yet. They just seem neat at first glance. Also, other books have probably done some of this stuff too; I’m not saying Schwab is the only one who’s done any of this stuff, I’m just saying that it’s cool that it’s in ADSOM.
- First of all, props to Schwab for Alucard. I know there have been plenty of authors who have brought new characters in later in a series with no prior warning, but I have rarely seen one so immediately popular and gripping in a trilogy as Alucard except for Finnick from the Hunger Games. Alucard’s introduction doesn’t come at the cost of another character (as in, he’s not there to make someone who’s supposed to be bad look even worse) and his arc doesn’t supersede anyone else’s. He’s great, and the fact that he is generally considered part of the main group despite being introduced a whole book later is awesome and a testament to his character.
- Sort-of connected to the previous point, but I think one of the reasons Alucard works so well is that he doesn’t have a giant arc. Everyone else in the series has a fairly complex internal conflict going on (excluding Lila, but she still has a long arc even if it’s shallow) and Alucard does too, but his is one that suits his shorter presence in the story; he doesn’t have to become king/learn to stop running from responsibility/change allegiances every five minutes. He just has to figure out how to confess a painful secret to several people who aren’t willing to listen. Schwab, especially in ADSOM, isn’t afraid to give characters different size arcs at different times; if you graphed them all, it wouldn’t be a bunch of near-identical lines that could be mistaken for one, it’d be a bunch of crazy curves that start and end at different times and reach different heights. When authors who have larger casts do this, it instantly makes the story twice as engaging. Alucard’s just a good example of this.
- I know this one’s a bit more controversial, but Kell/Lila actually has a lot of narrative potential for Threads of Power. In the main series, it’s framed against Rhy/Alucard, which is already an established relationship (even if it took a break) where the two characters know each other well; this is why, once Alucard can confirm he never meant to leave, the two get back together relatively smoothly and happily. Their relationship is much more matured than Kell and Lila’s, which is why Kell/Lila’s chemistry can sometimes read as a little strange (at least to me), and why I don’t think it’s necessarily a perfect relationship just yet. Lila is a very strong personality with a bit of a demanding streak; Kell in turn has a massive problem with caving to others and refusing to stand up for himself (I’m gonna talk about this later). Left unchecked, this will become a problem, but if addressed in Threads of Power, it can lead to two really engaging arcs with Kell learning he does not have to be everyone’s emotional punching bag and with Lila learning that it isn’t enough to just stay in a relationship- there has to be give and take, something she hasn’t demonstrated well yet. Maybe they’ll even take a break in Threads of Power to give the pair time to mature (I’m personally rooting for Alucard and Kell to somehow get stuck together while Lila gets stuck with Rhy). IDK, I think Kell/Lila is cool, especially when taken as a work in progress over a fully fledged relationship.
- This is part of the previous point and part of the following one, but I think the fact that Kell’s personality and problems are largely focused on his tendency to avoid conflict is a really cool idea for a protagonist, especially a man (note that I’m not calling him weak here). This may not sound like Kell’s personality, but let me explain. Kell is insanely noncombative, and almost everything he does to try and solve a problem reads to me as him actively trying to avoid confronting someone about it. “I don’t feel like part of the royal family because I have no princely attributes despite being one in name, and while I acknowledge I’m lucky I still can’t get rid of these feelings”- Smuggles instead of talking to the Maresh (he tried with Rhy and Lila and look how that turned out). “I’m feeling pent-up because I almost died multiple times in less than twenty-four hours/have trauma and am being punished with isolation/no longer even being called a son despite the fact my magic acts up when this happens”- Competes in the Essen Tasch instead of talking to Maxim. “I hate you because you hurt my brother’s feelings when you abandoned him and I had to pick up the pieces”- Consistently antagonizes Alucard instead of really confronting him/letting him explain himself because that would mean that Kell’s ingrained-trained protectiveness of Rhy has caused another problem. Kell is a character who seems very proud and sure of himself, but when one looks closer, he actually has very little confidence. He has no self-respect, and that sets him up great for his narrative foil- Holland.
- Holland and Kell have a complex narrative relationship as two very well developed foils, and a lot of this has been addressed by the fandom before, but one of the most interesting points I haven’t seen much of is their thematic exploration of respect vs pride. Holland is a character who doesn’t like himself- this much is obvious- but while he takes no pride in his own actions, he has an insane amount of self-respect. He has to be literally forced into following another’s will, he doesn’t let other people’s opinions get himself down, he gives as good as he gets always no matter how hard it is. Holland has to be beaten into submission, and even then he simmers with righteous anger over it because he knows he should get to make his own choices. Holland has self-respect; I may hate myself, but that doesn’t mean I will let you disrespect me.
Meanwhile, Kell is a people-pleaser who puts on a facade of confidence who never actually uses it. Kell has pride in himself- in things like his magic, his coat, his wit- but he doesn’t actually have a lot of self-respect. He folds to anyone who is more demanding than him (AKA everyone else in the series), and the other characters abuse this constantly. Rhy, whether he means to or not, uses his influence over Kell to keep him from standing up to the Maresh over their constantly-shifting parenting positions. Maxim and Emira use their affection and respect like bait to get Kell to do what they want even when he’s uncomfortable. Lila can yell at Kell about his upbringing or accuse him of overprotectiveness (sometimes fairly, sometimes not) and Kell will simply stop talking. Kell just lets this happen; he doesn’t ever stand up for himself because he has been convinced things are usually his fault. I may like myself just fine, but I will let you walk all over me because it’s not my place to stop you and I’m probably the problem and also I shouldn’t have wanted XYZ in the first place. It doesn’t matter how much Kell debates with himself if he started the conflict or if he rails against the way he’s addressed- as long as Kell isn’t respected by his loved ones or the people around him, he won’t respect himself, and that is simultaneously really interesting and really, really sad.
- Also on the Holland and Kell front, Holland using Kell as the metaphorical scapegoat for his issues makes perfect sense, especially since I think he actually knows he isn’t in the right. Kell is often in places where Holland is at least uncomfortable and at worst in pain, and he is the tangible representation of Red London, the world Holland hates most of all. I’m convinced Holland’s brain put two and two together, which is why Holland often punishes/hurts/hates Kell for Red London’s systemic issues even when it is obvious to everyone involved Kell isn’t to blame. Holland lashes out at Kell in their first meeting because he’s offended that Red London is successful and White London is not; this isn’t Kell’s fault. He blames Kell for a)killing him and b)killing the Danes and stealing his vengeance; this also isn’t Kell’s fault. He even seems to get a little bit of satisfaction over the idea of sicking Osaron on Red London through Kell, despite the fact that making a deal with Osaron wasn’t Kell’s idea either; it was Holland’s (Kell didn’t have a choice to kill him and didn’t think he’d survive, but Holland still seems to interpret it as Kell banishing him to Black London, even though he would absolutely do the same thing in his shoes). Holland is a very angry person and Kell is unfortunately put in his way a lot, but I still think it’s neat that the very-rational Holland seems to have an awareness that this behavior isn’t fair/has unfair intentions but still is unwilling to stop anyway. He’s using this grudge as a coping mechanism and that feels really realistic to me.
- Minor point here, but the knowledge that eye color and stuff is incredibly varied and changes with magic use makes my little artist heart very happy indeed.
- I’m a big Osaron fan, and one of the things about him that I think is really cool is how completely unconcerned with revenge he is. Yes, he holds grudges against the Antari, but he doesn’t seem to care that he got locked in Black London for centuries. He has taken no personal offense over it, and that makes him seem even more inhuman to me- Holland spent like six hours in Black London and he carried that grudge for ages. Also, his complete certainty that he was not going to repeat the Black Plague in Red London is hilarious to me- he’s like a dog that keeps knocking its toy somewhere it can’t reach because it doesn’t compute that repeating the same action will always have the same result. Surely this won’t go wrong again, Osaron thinks, as the world once again starts dying off. He’s kind of an idiot, and I love that.
- The fact that Kamerov is both a knight and silver themed during a time when Rhy is throwing himself into his role as the Golden Prince may be unintentional, but is still cool nonetheless.

Did you vibe with Feysand this book? what about their pregnancy
Hey sugar!
Yes I did vibe with Feysand I loved seeing them from other’s perspective, their love still filled me and every time they were cute with one another it added ten years to my life.
I loved, LOOVED that they called them out on their bargain, because even though I do not hate it and I understand why they did it, I think it was very important that they were told that as partners that was a cute decision and all, but as rulers that was a stupid call. I love that we get that from Rhys: the realization that more than his mate’s life, he bargained the welfare of his court in all the anxiety he constantly feels.
Now with the pregnancy... I still go back and forth with it. I think it worked for the narrative and I think it was an effective propeller for character development and action. I loved seeing Feyre excited to have a baby and I appreciated the anxiety and terror Rhys was feeling along with that excitement. My hope with this narrative going forward is that they don’t use it to sort of retire Feyre from the plot of the books because “she’s a mom and someone needs to stay home with Nyx”. I will stand by this choice or at least respect it, if in future books we still get Feyre Cursebreaker in all her might in conjunction with Feyre the mom and not just Feyre the mom.
My issue with it, which did not deter my love for the story or the precise arc of this book, is that at the beginning it seemed a tad convenient, like ohhhh Feyre is pregnant and her pregnancy is quite dangerous so she can’t do much really, this is why Nesta is needed. Even though, I understand why we did not get much information on the day-to-day of the pregnancy because both Cassian and, specially, Nesta were not part of that day-to-day I would have loved to go deeper into that just so it would make a fully fleshed justification for why Feyre was on the side of the game in a way in which no other character from the IC really was. The further I got into the book the more I liked the way it was woven into the plot, but a part of me wishes Sarah could have found another way make Nesta take charge of the Trove, because at the end of the day that is where Nesta stepped because Feyre couldn’t.
However, I think it was very successful in helping understand more the magic system and Nesta’s powers at the end. That scene where she saves Feyre explains that her powers, in coming from the artefact of creation itself (The Cauldron), could have an effect in reality in an altering way that none of the High Fae even Rhysand and Feyre in all their might could have. For instance, Feysand and High Fae can use the materials available to them to create or destroy, they have a very empirical magic if you will; but Nesta, Nesta had power that came from creation itself, therefore she could alter the fabric of reality or at least access the tools that would permit her to do so. It’s like saying that death is something that alters reality and is part of the innate fabric of the world, and that’s what she has access to, that realm of agency/action, and why only she could step in and save her. Feyre’s situation was beyond the known and the empirical, she was as good as dead (again... my fucking baby can’t catch a break) so of course only Nesta, who can access the fabric of reality, could actually do something. It is even suggested that she talked to The Mother, which further supports that her powers gave her an access to something bigger.
Additionally it made us remember that Feyre is a person unlike any other in the world of Prythian. There is no text book for how her powers truly work and affect her. It is a reminder that in all of the history of this world, only five people have been made (The Archerons, Amren and Myriam) and all in very different circumstances and with different methods so it’s not like they can rely on the other experience to successfully guide Feyre. So it becomes believable, to me at least, why no one knew what the fuck to do about it and why they decided to take the safe route of “no magic until that baby is out”.
Also it show where the world needed clear advancements. Yes they have all the magic they might want and stuff like that, but performing a c-section and the risk it entails is that they did not truly know how, hence all the previous cases resulting in death. There she established that magic does not necessarily give you knowledge on all things. It’s all good and dandy if you have the tools to perform a c-section but if you don’t know how to do it then those tools are useless. That’s what was happening there. Madja and Rhys could have the magic, but neither had the knowledge on how to perform it successfully.
It was an unusual, more complex way to help understand and delimit the world in ACOTAR. But as I’ve said a million times sjm books are deceptively not for the lazy reader.
Anywho, Feysand are now parents and omg.

Opinion on ACOTAR's Azriel
WARNING WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS
As stated in my previous post, this will be my opinion on what I believe should happen to AZ if he ever gets a book mainly focusing on the relationship side since so many people think he should be paired with someone. So in this post, I will remove all personal feelings I have on the series and characters, so this can be unbiased. In a later post, I will discuss my thoughts on the books.
Now that that is over, here is a recap of the last post before I go into what I am going to add for those who haven’t been able to see my other post:
Ok, ok, I know this will probably be an unpopular opinion, but...
I think if a book is made about Azriel, it shouldn't be about him magically finding his "mate" or there being the main love interest for him, or honestly him being with anyone at all. He deserves all the happiness; I agree that only leads me to encourage me more, hear me out...
· Azriel has gone through a lot of suffering emotionally, physically, and mentally (outside of emotional). As a result, it would be harder for him to express who he is, let alone try to open up to someone"new" that he would surprisingly learn is his mate.
· If he was to get a book, I think it should focus on how he went through his difficulties and what he does in the shadows outside of the knowledge already shared of his job. We already know he plays a large part in what goes on in the background of the Night Court, so it should be foremost in what he has seen, which no one shall know.
· Another point is maybe if SJM wants to introduce a love interest, it is done not through a sudden crush but slow-building of perhaps the love interest being caused through a mission which he ends up being forced to get closer without want and reluctantly develops feelings.
· Also, like Nesta, along with implied multiple times in the story, he releases his emotions through one-night stands, and we readers just need to accept he isn't a relationship man but not wanting a long-term thing. He has always been represented as closed off, along with never being implied as someone who actively wants a commitment yet to be left to his own, so maybe it should be shown as so.
Now, I want to add evidence to support what I am trying to communicate with everyone.
In the books A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, A Court of Frost and Starlight, and A Court of Silver Flames, they slowly pull information about what Azriel had to deal with what his job was in the stories. Unfortunately, as the books progress mainly in ACOWAR and ACOSF, people started to try and ship him with many people, not considering what he has gone through with his past, which would only lead to issues if a relationship were to develop at some point in the series.
That is where I will be starting, about how if he does get a book, what should happen with his past, then we will go through how his “relationships” should proceed throughout the series.
In ACOMAF, the author SJM introduces him as part of the inner circle, consisting of Mor, Amren, and Cassian. He is the spy of the Night Court who is constantly working with the shadows to gather information for the High Lord Rhysand. Even when Feyre first met him, she was off-put about how he acted with the shadows. “With approval as the shadows seemed to wrap tighter around him. As if he were the dark have from which they flew from.” This only shows more into the beginning of how powerful he could probably be, like foretelling, which is introduced more and more throughout the series.
Azriel is very quiet and keeps to himself most of the time, even to those he loves and cares about profoundly, unless something has him become protective. For example, in the meeting in ACOWAR, he jumps to attack Eris because he insulted Mor. Another example was when Feyre was being offended by Tamlin, he said, “Be careful how you speak about my high lady.” This line shows that even when he is quiet, he contains anger that has not been explained about how far it runs. He is considered a very mysterious character when described throughout the story because none of his past has entirely been told mainly. After all, no one knows what happened to him.
Taking this information into careful consideration implies more going on behind the scenes with him and his powers of controlling the shadows, which have not been introduced. The information provided through the stories about him being a captive song with abused for a while also gives insight into how much pent-up anger and emotion he carries with him that could affect him dearly, leading him to possibly do things behind the Lord’s back even as friends. The latest book states that he has been dealing with a lot to the point Rhys gave some work to Cassian. What was the work, though? What work was so much that it forced Rhysand to split the trade with Cassian?
Going into the idea of his book, if it was to be created, it should bring in the information about what he has gone through and what he has to do as a shadowslinger. It should also include information on his job as a spy because honestly, does anyone know? If he gets a book it should be about his career and how his past has affected the way he is. So many aren’t focusing on the fact he has gone through many difficult times, always forced into positions where he has risked everything because many people only focus on how he acts with the others or how the others interact, not him. Because of all the emotions most likely pent up and the distraction of constantly running around, it has probably only affected him more.
Now finally going into relationship side. Many people are shipping Az with Gwen or Elain and even arguing over it, which is ridiculous because first off, let everyone have their ships stick to your own belief don’t belittle others. Back to the point, when shipping him with all these people, no one realizes there is no solid development of the two characters of the chosen ship together in any book. Even if nothing leads Azriel to be emotionally available for him, even to realizes he can get in a proper relationship.
If he were to be in a relationship, he would need to be able to sort out his emotions more, being able to be at least able to open up slightly to heal instead of hiding from his mind, which he has been doing, or at least what has been implied of him doing. When in a relationship, someone must openly communicate and stick to the other if something happens. With his past crush, Mor (who still hasn’t shown if he is completely over her), he never showed much emotion or opened up much with his claim to love her. If SJM established anything in the book, it shouldn’t be a relationship but just him having one-night stands that honestly shouldn’t be needed if it is written well enough.
Another reason why he shouldn’t have a mate because mates are considered rare in that world, meaning if he has a mate, how would that be rare considering that he would be the 4th person in that group to have a mate that randomly appears. It wouldn’t make sense.
All in all, I think Az shouldn’t end with someone, and the book should main on him growing mentally, so he becomes stronger. Please ask any questions; if you think otherwise, please I’d love to hear it, I’m always open to listening to others’ opinions on matters considering them.

Book of the Month (Mar): A Court of Silver Flames
Okay that was a crazy ride… holy mother sh*t. I don’t even know where to start and I have so many thoughts it feels like my heart and head will explode. Just like my Chain of Gold review (which you can find on my post page) this will probably be long and full of spoilers so sorry in advance, but I just need to get it out. Also these are the other books I read in March (it was a crazy month with a SJM and Cassie Clare book!):
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas (5 stars)
Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare (5 stars)
Siren’s Lament Season 2 by instantmiso (5 stars)
Frankenstein 1818 edition by Mary Shelley (unrated)
Characters
So to start I of course need to talk about Nesta, her being one of the main characters, but also because it’s NESTA. Like many people, I hated Nesta for all of the previous books. Like actually hated. She just made me so mad. The only time and reason I didn’t totally hate her was during the war in ACOWAR and mostly because I wanted Cassian to be happy and I could tell they were mates. But after that, especially in ACOFAS, I disliked Nesta so much it hurt. For her whole life she (and Elain, but I’ll get to her later) just let and expected Feyre to do everything for them and keep them alive. And after all of that, she blamed Feyre for being Made into a Fae, when Feyre was literally the only reason she was alive. As an older sibling myself, that made me so mad. I would never rely on my younger sibling because I would do everything in my power to keep them safe and provided for (like what Nesta did for Elain, which also riled me up because Feyre never got the same treatment). Going into this book I was worried that this whole thing was going to be about Nesta being a whiny bitch, but instead, the redeeming feature of Nesta, was her knowledge and acknowledgment of how shitty of a sister she’s been. I know that it took her a long time to actually be nice again, but I was happy that she actually knew that she was being terrible and deep down wanted to be better. She wasn’t just being terrible because she felt entitled which was the vibe I got from her before, but instead was terrible because she thought it was too late to get better. After that I thought her journey was very relatable and heart wrenching. While I still was mad every time she got mad and was mean to Feyre or any of the Night Court group, I could still sympathize how she felt like she was intruding on their family and that she didn’t fit in.
Now let’s talk about Cassian— I love him. That’s about it. JK… Okay, I have always loved Cassian, but this book made me appreciate him in a more emotional way. All of his insecurities had me crying for him while relating to him so well too, and when we heard more about his mother and how when he was younger he didn’t get physical touch which is why now he always needs physical touch… MY HEART COULDN’T HANDLE IT! God, that was such a precious moment when he needed to hug and kiss Feyre’s forehead, because that’s how he best shows affection and needs affection warmed my heart in so many ways, but also made me cry. And although it hurt me when Cassian would doubt himself and feel lesser because he was born a bastard, I still felt that pain brought Nesta and him closer in more ways. It wasn’t just him helping her, but she helped him too, and both allowed each other to grow on their own but also together. I fucking loved that.
Relationships
Now I’m just going to jump right into relationships, because I feel like individual characters besides Nesta and Cassian can only really be talked about through their relationships with other characters since it was only Nesta and Cassian’s povs in the book.
So first let’s talk about (obviously) Nesta and Cassian— I mean I already started to talk about them together above, but this book was so powerful for me because of the way the two of them worked together to heal themselves. That was beautiful. But also it is a tiny bit annoying how both Feyre and Nesta were unaware of their frickin mate bonds! I know, I know… neither were born Fae so they don’t have the same knowledge of the mate bonds that everyone else does, but come on! I knew Nesta and Cassian were mates since they first met! And I know that it definitely wouldn’t have been smart or healthy for Nesta to accept the mate bond at the beginning, but at the end when she still has to talk to Cassian like he isn’t her mate, after they literally consummated the mate bond on several occasions, I was kind of annoyed. I know it was still part of her growth, but also wild that she still was playing dumb like that. But I’m happy they finally admitted everything at the end.
Next let’s discuss the Archeron sisters— So really their relationship at the start just made me sad, seeing none of them get along (except Feyre and Elain). Especially since I still kind of felt like everyone should just be falling at Feyre’s feet and apologizing about how terrible they were for mostly her whole life (even Elain, since she also never helped keep them alive in the human world. Really she was just as bad as Nesta but wasn’t an outright bitch about it). But even though Nesta was encouraging nasty behaviour from them (because she was also being mean) Feyre and Elain both were just as mean to her sometimes. I mean, when Elain went to the house and Nesta and her got in an argument, Elain was just as harsh as Nesta was to her. But I guess Elain has just never been my favourite person. I’m still a little pissed how both Feyre and Nesta do everything for her and she just sits still and looks pretty, but I’m betting that will change in future books. Anyways, I was very happy at the end of the book that all three sisters got on good terms and even went to visit their father’s grave together. That last scene got me pretty emotional.
Nesta & Emerie & Gwyn— In contrast with the Archeron sisters’ relationship, I loved this new friendship that Nesta found with Emerie and Gwyn. I think now that Nesta found those two, she really appreciates the relationship between family that isn’t blood, because they are now like her sisters too. I loved both Emerie and Gwyn so much in this book and I was so happy that Nesta found them and let them into her life. Feyre found a family in the Inner Night Court, and Nesta found her own people with her Valkyries, and that felt very poetic to me. The family you choose is the family that sticks with you forever (although you can choose blood family too, and I’m glad Nesta found her way back to Feyre and Elain, but I’m glad she found more family too).
Nesta & Amren— Okay, this relationship had me very mad for most of the book because I just wanted to scream at Nesta so bad! I can’t believe that Nesta got mad for “choosing” Feyre’s side, when literally Feyre and Amren were family first! Amren and Feyre were close and part of the Night Court family before Nesta came in, and even though I was happy that Nesta was making friends with Amren, she can’t get mad at Amren for being friends with Feyre too! Especially since she was friends with Feyre first! Again, not saying that Amren and Nesta being friends was a bad thing, I just got mad that Nesta was being so weird about it when she has no claim on Amren to be just her friend. Sorry I just had to get that off my chest, but I am happy that both of them seem to be friends again now :)
Nesta & Rhysand— Throughout the book I totally understood both Nesta and Rhysand being unfriendly to each other, but boy was I in tears when Rhysand fell to his knees before Nesta because of what he did for Feyre. That was the most beautiful brother-in-law/sister-in-law moment in the entire world. Really I don’t want to even talk about Nesta and Rhys’s relationship in most of this book because I feel like that’s now in the past, I just want to focus on their amazing family relationship going forward, because now they will be in-laws from both sides (Feyre and Nesta being sisters, and Rhys and Cassian being brothers).
Nesta & the House— This was a beautiful relationship and I was beyond happy that Nesta became best friends with the House. Super heart-warming and those are honestly my only thoughts. I can’t wait to see more of Nesta and the House in the future!
Cassian & Rhys & Azriel— Again, I just love the three of them! Their brotherly bond is adorable, but it also makes my heart break when they all take on each other's pain, because it’s just so beautiful and sad at the same time. I don’t know how else to explain it. When Cass and Az still feel hurt about not being able to help Rhys when he was underneath the mountain, and the pain Rhys and Az feels for Cass’s past, and the same for Az’s past. It’s beautiful but sad because I can just feel the love they have for each other and the true pain they feel and it hurts me too.
The Night Court Inner Circle— This is also just a short pop in to say how much I love this whole family together: Rhys, Az, Cass, Feyre, Mor, Amren, and now Nesta, Elain, and Nyx. They are all a big beautiful family that makes my heart ache just thinking about them. I can’t wait for more scenes about all of them interacting with baby Nyx, because that will kill me and give my life again in the best way possible (again not sure if that made sense, but that’s the only way to explain it).
And for the big finale in relationships… my Elain/Azriel/Lucien/Gwyn thoughts— to start off, I’m not dissing any ship anyone makes and I think all thoughts are valid. But I don’t know, for some reason I just don’t think Az and Elain are meant for each other. I just think it’s too obvious and cliché (for lack of a better word) to have all three brothers fall in love with all three sisters. BUT I also see how it is obvious and cliché to have mates end up together too. So I really don’t know what to expect. But one thing is for sure— and again no hate please— but I totally understand why Elain and Lucien are mates and “equals”. Throughout this book it is mentioned multiple times that Elain doesn’t belong in the Night Court while Nesta definitely does (like the scene where they visit the Court of Nightmares but I do remember it being mentioned other times as well). This also explains why Azriel’s shadows don’t go close to Elain, because she literally represents light. Lucien on the other hand, is literally the son and heir to Helion, High Lord of the Day Court (even if he is unaware at the moment), the ambassador to the Spring Court (full of light and flowers), and ambassador to the human lands, somewhere Elain misses very much. I know none of this should mean he has any claim to her, but it definitely makes sense why they would be considered mates and “equals”, because Lucien’s birth and life matches the light that Elain represents. Just some food for thought. And concerning Gwyn and Az, I just think they would be really cute together, honestly. I think that Az being the first one to rescue Gwyn on the most traumatic day of her life is significant, and will have something to do with Gwyn’s own healing in some way, but of course that doesn’t have to mean sexual or romantic. I thought both of the extra bonus scenes at the end of ACOSF (yes I’ve read both) are really setting up for the next book which will cover Elain and Az’s journeys, but I don’t think that means they will get together. I thought Rhys’s comment about Elain in the Feysand one was very true, and Elain isn’t the innocent helpless girl we’ve been made to believe. I think she has a lot to share from her own story, and I think that Az needs to have his moment in the spotlight too.
Plot
Lastly, let’s talk about plot, which is essentially the next war that may be gearing up to happen. I hope for all of my babies’ sakes it won’t happen and it’ll just be a little negotiation and everything will be well, but I have a feeling that won’t happen. This dude in this lake is very intriguing though (sorry, can’t remember his name) and I’m excited to see what will happen next. But most importantly, I think in the future a lot of shit will happen with Mor too, because since she was gone so much in this book I think that’s SJM getting us ready for a big Mor moment. I have a feeling there was more to her negotiating on the other continent than we know about yet, and also I feel like there's something more about what happened with her and Eris that I’m excited to find out about.
I just feel like this was more of a character driven book (which are my favourite books) than a plot driven book, and a lot of the information we learned in ACOSF will be more important in the future books. So for now, I’m okay with not talking about it (although side note, I’m really happy that crone queen bitch is dead. I did not like her!)
So thanks for reading till the end if you did. Sorry for any grammar or spelling errors; I’m too tired to read over this.
Until next time!

Please don't read this ask as combative, I'm just genuinely curious. How do you justify the age difference between Sidra and Val? I know you said Val is technically a teenager/young adult in fae years but isn't that the same justification a lot of immortal/mortal pairings use? (Like Twilight with Edward being "frozen" at 17.) The fact is that Val's lived literally 200+ years more than her and that has to color the experience divide, right? Is there a way authors CAN make these age gaps work?
No worries! I think it’s a good question and gives me an opportunity to clarify some stuff! I should preface this by saying that it’s totally ok if people aren’t comfy with the “young woman paired with ancient magical dude” trope that’s common in fantasy nowadays. It’s not for everyone and that’s fine. I’ve tried to make my take on it more morally palatable, but if it doesn’t work you, then it doesn’t work for you.
Putting this under a cut because it got long, oops.
Val isn’t “frozen,” he literally ages 10 times slower than Sidra, including mentally and emotionally. 50-year-old fae are the equivalent of 5-year-old children. Val being 223 is basically him being in his early twenties, barely mature enough by fae standards to be considered an adult. So while Val has been an adult longer than Sidra has been alive, from her perspective, Val has also been an official “adult” for like, 2-3 years, from his perspective. He also doesn’t see Sidra as being 2 years old, he sees her as being similar to himself in age, as a young adult. In fact, it fucks him up a little that she’s a fully grown person when she’s the same technical “age” as a toddler. The same way it fucks Sidra up that he’s still alive. He can’t wrap his head around how “quick” humans are. To him, growing a mind and a body and a personality takes centuries and she did it in two decades? Weird. Gross.
I should also mention that while yes, technically the sheer amount of stuff he’s seen is more than what Sidra has, the fae also perceive time differently than humans as a result of their immortality. So he doesn’t necessarily retain all of the stuff he’s lived through, or it doesn’t affect him the same way it might affect a young developing human.
However, this is all details compared to what I think is the most important thing in cases like these: framing.
In the case of Twilight, the framing emphasizes how Edward is mature and has been through high school and college multiple times, how he knows and understands more than Bella. His age is written as adding to his power, his allure. He doesn’t consider himself a teenager, and neither do his vampire peers. In every way but physical, he’s an ancient adult. It’s supposed to be intriguing that an older, intelligent and beautiful man would find a plain teenager attractive, and his age is used to reinforce his power and dominance.
If Edward perpetually had the mind of an actual 17-year-old instead of being “physically” 17 and mentally 109 or however old he is, I think Twilight would have the opposite problem of Bella eventually dating a teenager as she grows older unless she turns into a vampire. That’s sort of touched on in the books but it doesn’t go much further beyond “I will be a wrinkly old woman and you’ll be hot forever!” because, again, Edward already had Bella beat in the “life experience” department, and would still have that over her even as she grew older.
In the case of ACOTAR, it’s a similar thing. I don’t recall if it’s ever explained how the fae mature, but I do know that Rhys has been “waiting” for Feyre before she was even born? Like, the mating bond paired him up with a human infant at some point? And he has to wait for her to become an adult before they can boink? Same with Jacob and Renesmee. That’s just straight up magical grooming, fam. These men are adults for an extremely long time while they wait for their younger partner to catch up and become legal, often not even letting her live a life independently before they marry and have babies. These men become their partners’ lives.
In my case, Val’s age is framed against a backdrop of much older fae who patronize, belittle and insult him because he’s a young man poking his fingers into things that he’s too naïve to understand, according to them. This on its own doesn’t automatically solve the age difference, but he’s not framed as having power over Sidra, he’s not considered one of the oldest and most powerful fae, he’s not held up by the narrative as an older man who somehow, against his better judgment, is lusting over someone much younger than him because she’s just so mature and full of life and special. His age isn’t held up as a mark of experience and maturity and power. It’s just a thing that marks him as different from Sidra, on a magical worldbuilding level.
The younger party is also important. Are they inexperienced and naïve? Are they a young sheltered teenager, only now entering their first ever romantic/sexual relationship? Are they entering this relationship without any prior knowledge of who they are and what they want from life and a relationship with this person? Is this adult their first and only entry point to adult life in general? (Not saying you need to have multiple partners before you can find “The One” or anything, but having a frame of reference and knowing what you want out of life and the relationship is important IMO.)
Sidra doesn’t see Val as superior to her, she doesn’t think he’s above her and that she doesn’t “deserve him” or that he’s too good and cool for her, that she’s somehow not enough because she’s younger. She sees him as an equal, which makes any attempt at pulling the age/experience card pretty meaningless, because she doesn’t believe he knows what’s best in any given situation just because of his age. She doesn’t see him as an authority on most things and doesn’t consider herself below him in most things, either. She has already built a solid understanding of who she is and what she wants (or doesn’t want, at least). One of the first things that happens in the book is her rejecting a man because she realizes that she doesn’t want for herself what he wants for her.
And while yes, Val does eventually become a large part of her life and helps her figure out what she wants and needs and what she wants to become, she does the same thing for him. He isn’t a jaded old man taken with a pretty young thing who brings light back into his life or some other cishet-white-man nonsense, he’s young and stupid too and she helps him realize what he wants and who he wants to be. And they don’t do this on purpose to each other, it just happens through their interactions. Even if it were one-sided Val simply doesn’t have the maturity and experience to essentially “groom” Sidra into anything. Plus, they don’t get married and have children at the end (spoilers, I guess). They’re not bound to each other the same way many YA fantasy books often “bind” their young protags to their much older love interests (mating bonds, marriage, kids etc). Sidra still has the choice and ability to leave him whenever she likes and she’s fully aware of it.
That being said, my solution isn’t perfect and tbh I don’t think there is one? But this is fantasy, mortal-immortal pairings will always have weird dynamics because they’re not real and everyone makes up their own reference for how they should or shouldn’t work. Things like these will be subjective, and as long as the characters involved are adults, are making informed decisions and don’t have significant power imbalances because of their age difference, I think it can work!
(The target demographic is also very important I think. Impressionable teens shouldn’t read things that make adult men attractive or desirable. My target demographic is a bit older than that and I hope most of my future readers will have enough sense and independent thinking to know not to imitate fiction. Plus, again, I’m not playing on or emphasizing the typical age gap power dynamic.)
Hope this answered your question!

so i’m not opposed to a cc/acotar crossover but i’m very confused how it will work logistically.
if cc2 happens before acotar 5, then sjm will have to spend a lot of time explaining who bryce is and why she entered prythian (for readers that haven’t read cc series). and it also just wouldn’t make sense for bryce to spend a few chapters (or more) in acotar 5 bc then cc readers will be left behind.
but on the other hand, even if acotar 5’s ending matches with cc2’s ending, i don’t get how sjm is going to incorporate the two plots into acotar 6 and cc3. she would encounter the same problem of leaving some readers in the dark who have only read one series, and it wouldn’t be an issue if it was just a simple crossover but she incorporated major plot points into it. like the small rhys/aelin crossover isn’t a big deal because it’s just a fun easter egg for readers who have read both series, but won’t affect the comprehension of readers unfamiliar with the other series. from the snippets of cc2 we got though, it sounds like bryce possesses an item that is linked to the trove and will likely be necessary for the acotar plot to continue, and the ic could help bryce find aidas or the horn or whatever (idk i haven’t read cc).
it just doesn’t seem like it could be a quick, fun crossover with all of the characters and swords tied to such major plot points - bryce and the acotar characters would probably have to have a significant presence in each other’s series. which personally i think will make it too confusing for readers or will make for messy narratives. and personally, i have no interest in cc and don’t want to read it just for more of the acotar characters :/
but maybe i’m just missing another, better possibility. how do you see her treating the crossover in future books?
I have a theory about this, but it hinges on acotar5 coming next, rather than cc3. It could actually work either way, though, the more I think about it.
My idea is that acotar5 will start with Azriel's POV of finding Bryce and the reveal with Truthteller.
Here's why:
It's quite likely that Az is the next MC of acotar.
This would allow acotar-only readers to "discover" Bryce from the perspective of someone who has no idea who she is or why she is there. Hence the "explanation" of how she got to Prythian would make sense to someone who has never read CC. In explaining herself and what she needs to the IC, the acotar reader gets to learn along with the IC. This is usually how infodump type things work in a way that still feels natural to the story. You have character A who doesn't know a thing, but character B is very knowledgeable and has to explain things to character A.
This would also allow for the fact that Azriel could have a role in terms of helping Bryce along with her story.
It could also be a springboard to Azriel's story. Which Sarah is excited to tell.
We actually have a precedent for this; the end of acofas featured a preview for Nesta's story - the intervention. That same scene was included in acosf, but it was expanded quite a bit from the original.
I'm very very torn on how long Bryce will actually be in acotar5 (if my idea is true, of course). I don't want her to be there for long. I doubt she will be, considering she knows how much peril her own world is in.
I just don't want that whole thing to be too extensive, because it will be a whole clusterfuck. If cc3 is next then we could still get expansion on that scene, and Az would still be involved. And Amren the Translator, and RhysRuhn. But hopefully Bryce would move on pretty quickly. Then we could still get acotar5 opening the same way, with that scene from Az's POV.
It would also make sense that if we get a sneak peek of acotar5, it be that same exact scene. Just following Az instead. He was in the entire scene, and had a pivotal role - not just in finding Bryce, but in revealing the connection between Gwydion and Truthteller.

Can I just say that so far everyone is assuming that Azriel doesnt know about Mor's sexuality but...did Azriel say so? Cause I dont recall hearing his side of the story.
He's been a spymaster for over 500yrs, I'm pretty pretty sure that he knows. And Mor is not exactly the most shy person or the most discreet. I'm pretty sure he always knows what she does or goes because he wants to protect her after what happened to her, he will always have the sense that he failed her the first time and it wont happen again. He definitely knows.
Everyone "assume" he's in love with her mostly because of the way he protects her, etc. But he hasnt put out loud to anyone his love feelings for her. They just "assumed". Rhysand can not get into his mind and neither can not read his expressions. No one really knows what goes through his mind. Perhaps he was at the beginning and once he found out her real sexuality, he decided to move on.
Also, Mor is the only female that has been so close to him for the past 500yrs. Yes, he had "lovers" but I assume they were just night stands. Mor is the only female that got to know him in a more personal matter alongside Cassian and Rhys and then Amren.
I dont see any romantic love from him to Mor. I think he knows about her and he's trying to protect her. I dont think he has ever let any female to know him in a deep personal matter and I think he also use the out loud knowledge of him having feelings for her to repel any romantic approach from other females because he's incapable of letting people in so easily.
I think Mor assumes he has feelings for her and perhaps every time he try to clear that out, she just assume he will confess some romantic feelings instead and shut him out before he has the chance to speak.
I'm just assuming a lot of things but I really really dont feel any romantic love from Azriel to Mor.
And I think, and I have a strong feeling about it, that if he dare to voice or show any type of affection to Elain beyond friendship, wether he clear out or not to Mor that he does not have any romantic feelings for her before doing so, Mor will not react well to it.
And I say Elain because so far, I do not see Azriel spending garden time with any other person. Or any type of leisure activity with any other person beyond the inner circle the way he does with Elain.
And fuck it wether you can see it or not, Azriel clearly likes Elain enough to open up a little bit with her, and she likes him too. They might end up being best friends or whatever if SJM decides to stick to the bond with Lucien and develop their link into a romantic relationship but Elain will still be a door for Azriel to break free from those so called "feelings" he has for Mor.
In conclusion, HE DEFINITELY KNOWS ABOUT MOR. Thank you for your time.

Let the pettiness commence
Let me be frank here when stating that if the quarantine weren’t happening I would probably remain the type of blogger to just re-blog posts without commenting or making my own posts. I enjoy looking at things more than commenting what can I say? I should say thanks and welcome to all the followers I’ve gained these past few years. You all are awesome and hope you all are staying safe during these troublesome times!
Alright, I’m going from civil to petty here and I should forewarn you if you’re a fan of Sarah J. Maas and her novels you’ll prefer to stay away then listen to my rant. Just being polite and giving a heads up.
Listen, there are periods where atrocious books become a major part of trending pop culture. Eventually, the hype dies down and people can take a deep inhale of relief. Around the 2010s time-period, the hype was focused on Twilight books. No matter where you went you felt suffocated by the hyper-fixation people had on this series. I’ll be honest I was an avid Twilight lover for a period until I wised up and had to recognize these books are horrendous and having a bad influence on teens during my era. Teens were getting Aids from drinking each other’s blood literally, they were drinking someone’s blood literally. While they’re still popular main society’s attention has begun to wane.
Pop culture has an new interest in Sarah J. Maas’s series: Throne of Glass (ToG) and A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR). At one time I was part of the fan-base obsessed with her books. During a bleak period where every book I purchased ending up a dud despite strong premises; Maas’s first books, in both series, were a breath of fresh air. They had characters you found hysterical and enjoyed the story-lines (even though the storytelling was meh at times) and you couldn’t help anticipating future novels to see where the novels took these characters. Both series died for me at the books: Queen of Shadows and A Court of Mist and Fury.
These novels were my wake-up call to Maas’ manipulative storytelling patterns and her inconsistent characterizations. She completely morphs characters depending on the scenario. A noble, decent character is turned heinous to either add unnecessary drama or to make readers turn their affections towards another character Maas’ manipulates into becoming “the hero”- typically a love interest. Usually, the first-or second in TOG- love interests are noble characters with a few flaws but nothing to make readers despise them other than the fact they’re not the prettiest men in the series. Literally, readers adore the male characters that are otherworldly attractive than an average looking male who is humane and unproblematic. Problematic much? The message I’m receiving is you should fall in love with a pretty face rather than explore the person’s entire being (this includes past history, personality, characterization, etc).
People will say I’m petty because I’m annoyed Chaol and Tamlin did not remain the love interests. This is absolutely untrue. I’m annoyed Maas had to pull absolute garbage reasoning out of her ass to make the characters despicable.
Let’s start with Throne of Glass. Celaena (I refuse to call her Aelin because the name visually repulses me, it sounds like something Maas stole out of better high fantasy novels) realizes she doesn’t find Dorian compatible and finds Chaol more of an equal. Chaol has flaws but his main one seems to be he’s good-looking but only average in comparison to Dorian and Rowan- whose sex on legs apparently. Maas realizes people will deny Rowan as a love interest (after he gets into a punching match with Celaena) so she has to make Celaena despise Chaol and interact towards him with hostility despite her recognition Chaol had his reasoning's for certain events in previous novels. Then, Maas takes Chaol’s character, who is known for being awkward around women and loyal to a fault, and make him have one night stands, cheating on women, and apparently the scapegoat for everything that goes wrong because Celaena can’t own up she made mistakes. Nehemia also died to give Celaena that necessary push to go against the king but it’s entirely Chaol’s fault for Nehemia’s death since Celaena can do no wrong. Horseshit I say.
Dorian is not a match, Chaol is the bane of Celaena’s existence so Rowan is her champion. Gag. I actually liked Rowan in Heir of Fire but I found it repulsive how Celaena keeps throwing herself at him in Queen of Shadows and growing dependent on him. When she put him in a bath and started throwing her favorite shampoos in I found it to be the most awkward scene. It’s a moment someone with limited knowledge of sexual encounters would conjure up. “Let me give my love interest a bubble bath!” I’ve read these type of bath scenes in other novels but they’re more maturely done. Although I have to remember these books are written for teens. Then, they become mates. A contradicting setup because he had a mate in the past. But, no one is compatible unless they’re mates in Maas’ world. So, mates are stuck together and seem to have a servant/master relationship in certain portions of the stories. Yuck, just yuck.
Readers if you have to state someone is someone else’s mate so you’re aware they’re a thing then it’s probably not a healthy relationship since you’re staying they own that person in Maas’ world-building.
I’m going to stop while I’m ahead when writing about Rowan and Caelena because they repulse me. Buuuttt not to the same extent as Feyre and Rhysand. I absolutely despise these characters with every fiber of my being. This is one of the most unhealthiest relationships I’ve ever read. Before I jump into why they’re disgusting let me just say I love how everybody hopped on the Feyre adoration bandwagon only when she got into a relationship with Rhysand. Nobody liked her until she got.into.a.relationship.with.Rhysand. Wow!
Listen, I understand why Feyre couldn’t stay with Tamlin after what he did (ahem what Maas decided he should do). However contradictory Tamlin’s characterization was the relationship had turned unhealthy. Yetttt, no one batted an eye with Rhysand was giving Feyre date rape drugs, forcing her to give him lap dances making her sick when she came out of the haze, and her being entirely repulsed when he made-out with her. Plus, I read Rhysand as a gay or bi character when he was introduced. I think he would be a better character as a gay male seeking a friendship than their disgusting love story. He goes from giving her roofies and at least seeming like a morally gray character to Feyre’s champion. Yeah, not buying the bullshit.
I pity Tamlin’s character truly- he was butchered beyond recognition. He goes from allowing Feyre to wander to her heart’s extent- as long as she wasn’t in dangerous areas- to locking her up because he thought it made sense. He’s suddenly possessive of her in the most disgusting ways (but Rhysand isn’t possessive in the slightest even when he calls Feyre his “mate!”). All these details were added to make Rhys’ character more heroic. Rhys goes from being a somewhat tolerable character in his actions to a fucking messiah. Rhysand goes from roofie expert to whisking Feyre away for her own safety. Rhysand assists Feyre under the mountain unlike Tamlin! (Because the queen didn’t give a shit about Rhysand and he wasn’t under her radar to the extent as Tamlin). He loves reading stories with Feyre unlike Tamlin. (Hmm, Tamlin offers to teach Feyre to read which she stubbornly refuses because she’s independent but Rhysand forces her to learn and he’s romantic!). And gasp, Tamlin ended up being the one who murdered Rhysand’s family hence their animosity (hahahaha how desperate are you Maas, I mean seriously how pathetic). Feyre, just like Caelena, was forced into this relationship with another abuser painted as a hero in storytelling. Rhysand and Rowan are constructed into heroes to make their disgusting actions justifiable in comparison to Chaol and Tamlin’s ruined characters.
I’m mostly focused on the main relationships since that’s all I keep hearing about. Changing subjects briefly, Maas’ does not acknowledge PoC or LGBTQIA unless readers are pointing out lack of representation. If they’re introduced you’re guaranteed either they die to promote the white lead’s agenda or forced to become a villain. What kind of statement does that make, Maas???? Also, her world-building is beyond odd. Random characters get introduced in weird scenarios that she has to force into the story-line just for sprucing purposes (Manon and the 12 and the 12 princesses from Earth or whatever). Really, what were the purposes of these characters???? And these kingdoms are written so bad. One realm has everyone wearing Renaissance era clothing while the next realm has people dressing hipster I mean wtf?
The reason for my rant is that I needed to get it out of my system. Lately, I cannot get away from these garbage novels. I’m on my Kindle the books are recommended. I’m on Goodreads her books are recommended and keep winning Book of the Year despite better novels being on the same list. I go on Facebook someone mentions deciding to give the series a spin under quarantine. I’m on tumblr (if you’re a fan then that’s fine, enjoy what you love) and artwork keeps popping up. I love it’s typically Feyre giving Rhysand lap-dances in the earlier part of the series where she’s desolate and sicken by these moments. People are quite forgetful when they want to ignore something in order to make Rhysand babe. I wish I knew how to block anything Sarah J Maas on here because I’m trying to escape. I want to read other authors’ novels and not have Maas’ smug face pop up on my recommendation lists. (Her books are on every list on Goodreads- every freaking list!) Hopefully, when quarantine ends the hype will quiet again but I’m getting ticked off here.
Just had to get it off my chest. I’ll probably go back to quietly ignoring the recommendations and artwork but I’m having a moment here.

Drunk MID
So I’ve seen this before, which made me think of how I might see the characters as drunk. I’m not used to being around drunk people, my parents drink maybe twice a year at best and both are happy-go lucky drunks so knowledge is limited! Asch: Strangely enough, he calms down. It’s not a bad way to get information from him, or to have feelings talk because he’s much more open. Until he decides he doesn’t want to talk anymore, and explodes worse than if he was sober. RIP Ava’s house.  Noi: Happy go lucky! Like a little kid on a crack laced sugar high everything is GREAT everything is HAPPY everything must be TOUCHED AND NO HE WILL NOT SIT DOWN AND HAVE SOME WATER HE MUST RUN.  Pierce: Opposite of Noi, he slows down even more somehow. He will however latch onto anything, or anyone that he likes to cuddle and pet. Good luck getting away from him unless a new victim strays too close.  Leif: Gloomy drunk. His walls break down leaving him emotional, enjoys Pierce’s affection. He HATES this. However he is also too competitive to let everyone else drink while he’s too much of a ‘coward’ and always ends up drunk too.  Rhys: Does not drink. He may have a glass, or two if with his fellow guards/Lady Grandma, but he will not get drunk. Depending on his mood if asked you will either get a long rant about the effects and dangers of consuming alcohol or he will simply state he doesn’t like the taste.  Ava: Has not gotten drunk, so no one really knows. It’s not that she won’t, she’s not as ‘good’ as her fathers like to believe, she’s scared to be like leif. An emotionally vulnerable drunk. She spends a lot of time hiding from her own feelings, and worries getting drunk will bring them all to light whether she likes it or not.  Bonus Lorelei: Aggressively happy go lucky. She will physically drag you to a party because it’s going to be FUN and so you have to be there and she will not be taking no for an answer. Little dopey, just wants to have fun and by god she will make sure you have fun too if she has to take over this entire party herself.

Headcanons + Making this to replace my old headcanons post.
Disclaimer: JUST GOING TO SAY NOT EVERYTHING I GIVE THEM IS SOMETHING I AGREE WITH! like Some characters will have a headcanon that’s more because I can ACTUALLY SEE Them enjoying an activity but even if they do I DON’T their are things that these characters would do that I DON’T think anyone else should do EVER!
Asch
Has a safe space in his room where he can be himself. It’s a place where He gets to let his guard down. that is his earth room
Has a tendency to be more attracted to those with a darker tone then him. then again its not really hard to have a darker complexion then him. (Regardless of race someone could have a tan or something, or just be a bit darker than him.) He himself hasn’t noticed this and probably never will.
Mirage sleeps in his room
If Rhys somehow got really sad and mopey he’d locate that ice cream truck and angrily threaten the ice cream man to give him all of the ice cream or DIE. Or he’d just want the entire truck, & if no one stopped him then he’d throw it through Ava’s window into her apartment.
Sometimes late at night when everyone’s sleeping & Asch can’t, he summons Rhys to his room and forces him to read him a bedtime story. Rhys used to do this when Asch was younger as well. He really likes Rhys’s voice.
If he was a human he’d probably be some NEET gamer who spends all his time roleplaying on World of Warcraft or something and he’d always rage about bad plot points or game mechanics in Anime & Video games.
The most likely to dirty talk
He sneezes like a kitten and when he does fire comes out.
Would be god awful at pole dancing
He doesn’t know what to do when it comes to love and isn’t used to physical affection.   Its.....very pleasant whenever he gets it...but it also feels too comfortable for him. He’s scared of comfort, despite loving it.
Later on once he embraces affection he becomes absolutely addicted to it and is by far the most passionate of them. Though that angry scowl never leaves unfortunately . His passion rages on like a burning flame, like....an intense RUSH of desire. It can be overwhelming at times.
In fact he DEMANDS the affection.
In battle he’s more brutish than the others by far. A giant barrage of flames being sent EVERYWHERE .
One time he read a fanfiction & thought it was 100% Canon. & when anyone said otherwise He screamed angrily and shot fire balls at them; Even when they weren’t physically there. Of course since they weren’t there he just  ended up burning the phone Ava got for him, but you know, whatever.
Loves curry
Really likes chocolate and caramel for whatever reason, but he can’t stand other sweets. he also likes strawberries
He enjoys the video game Indivisible, & some war military tactic games. He also likes rage games for some reason too even though he hates them, its complicated but he can’t stop playing, he gets too into it and too angry. He also enjoys racing games & MARIO PARTY, Especially when he wins.
His favorite animal is the bull
Dhaur is his husbando
His sin is wrath
Used to hate Steven Universe at first then grew....to like it. then love it. It seemed so dumb to him at first but as he watched it he came to understand it more.
Asch trusts Rhys more than the other daemos. He’s known him the longest and believes in his judgement he doesn’t think Rhys would EVER lie to him or deceive him.  Because of this Rhys is the only person Asch is ever fully open with. He wouldn’t leave anyone else he was this open with back on daemos. He is quite FOOLISH to believe this however. :) after all Rhys is working with Lady Grandma.
He once dared Leif to eat a cactus after getting particularly angry in a game of truth or dare
Him and Rhal never get along ever. They always yell it eachother, and get into arguments.
Rhal has far more Knights than Asch
As for Lady Bish. Asch is completely indifferent towards her.
He doesn’t know why but he keeps on sniffing Ava’s bra for reasons obvious to the rest of us. Regardless he destroys them just the same
Smell/sweat Kink bitches
 Probably into S&M.
He sometimes rehearses villainous Dialogues with himself in the mirror when no one’s around.
He also does this with Rhys on occasion...if he’s feeling particularly BRAVE that day
Holds up a lot of pent up emotions and hides it pretty well. He prefers to let them out as anger instead..but when he gets drunk it all just POURS out of him. He just sobs and cries and hugs and kisses and laughs. just...everything. ALL OF THE EMOTIONS BESIDES ANGER he expresses openly. He doesn’t become a completely different person he just becomes far more open. He compliments a lot as well.
He got drunk once and decided from that day NEVER AGAIN!
Though when he first got drunk he really liked it. Despite the flavor. and downed like 3.
 That was a #Mistake
His favorite Crystal gem is Garnet, or Sapphire? Its hard for him to choose between them.
Rhys
The thiccest of the daemos on earth. By that I mean he has the biggest butt
What I mean by that is he does a lot of squats, & Glute exercises. He also has a magic that makes all the fat he gains go to his butt but that’s not important. Its not always in affect only for emergencies.
Would be VERY interested in science if he knew what it was
He would eat pizza with a fork
Gluttonous in any task he enjoys. When he eats he eats ALOT, sex would last a long time with him Though not many people know this about him because he takes his time.
The  common one is Research, reading, observing, & ESPECIALLY LEARNING.
He also adores validation give him it.. Wears a long trench coat to hide his big butt from the world well not hide but-.
specifically daemos since some uncultured daemos tend to be quite handsy.
It doesn’t always work but whatever trench coats are cool.
has frequent discussions with Asch in his room. He’s the only one Asch is completely honest with. Asch trusts Rhys with EVERYTHING.
If he was a human he would be a college student studying to be a scientist of some kind.
He would also work volunteer jobs at the retirement homes.
If he was a human he’d probably meet Asch by working as his grandmothers nanny. I don’t think Asch would live by himself.
has a tad bit more fat on him than the others. but his muscle can distract from that. Plus his fat isn’t even noticeable outside of his ass His lover would nickname him sunrise, because his smile can chase the night away, cause his face is what brightens their day, because he is the beginning of something new bright and beautiful.
loves Rubix Cubes If he romanced Ava it wouldn’t be because he likes her it would be because he wants to use her. mostly for her nonexistent power ((magical and political))
Loves sweets more than the rest of them
I think I had enough for him last time.
His mother and Asch’s were close.
Spends waaayyyy too much time trying to over analyse tv shows he watches
Is a big fan of Pheonix wright, Fran Bow, Gravity falls, Danganronpa, Dr. Stone, Dr. Who, Fnaf, & pretty much any other game or TV show that either gives you a lot to think about after the episodes/playthrough, is chock full of thousands of possibilities and theories, or requires a lot of thought and problem solving to play. He also likes strategy games like Fire Emblem, & Final Fantasy Tactics. OH! And Pokemon but not for the normal gameplay for the competitive scene.
Due to having the element of water he is  usually cool calm and collected. but he also is able to flow with a situation if needed. He’s passive
Often reads to Asch because Asch has a harder time reading. Him and Asch went to school together when they were younger and thus have a closer bond than the others.  ((Lady grandma forced Asch to go))
Once asked Ava if she had any more of those porn magazines. Was pleased to find that Ava had an entire closets worth. Though not all of it was the fighting techniques he was looking for.
He  has no fucking idea how a vagina works in the slightest. or what vagina’s even look like? Despite his extensive knowledge sex is one of the places where he knows the least. Because he has no idea what lesbian sex is he is completely oblivious to the fact that he’s been staring at 2 girls fucking it on in those magazines he’s found underneath Ava’s bed.
He once had to help Leif out with the creation of the Furby organ. It was incredibly difficult for him but also very insightful
The Furbies terrify him though.  That STARE its..just...ugh
 The best at pole dancing.
Is far more elegant on the battle field than the others. His attacks are more precise and careful than theirs are.
He’s also the best at dancing...well fancy dancing. like ballet,  and slowdancing.
Sleeps in Ava’s fridge sometimes.
Starting teaching Noi how to read a bit more after they went to the mall. The shops are cataloged after all
Is cold resistant to a point. I mean ice magic CAN still hurt him but like...less. I’d liken it to a Pokemon.
His favorite crystal gem is garnet. If your talking singular gems then I’d say Ruby. But...like Garnets amazing why would you want to choose just ONE of them as your favorite when..
Likes classical music, R & B, Soft...indie songs, Soft pop, Trap music & Bossa Nova
If Ava did marry him she’d probably get locked into a loveless marriage for power that doesn’t exist
If he found out about Ava’s lies he might have a fucking meltdown. :D like everything he was working towards EVERYTHING would have been for nothing.
That is until the prospect of watching how the human world continues to function without magic...he’d realize they have TECHNOLOGY and how...amazing it is.
Leif
The more he likes you the more he’ll want to stab you. Just how it is
The more he’s attracted to someone the more he’ll want to stab their guts out. he’s weird like that.
Big sadist I mean we already know this but like in all the ways? ya know?Like he literally gets an orgasmic feeling in his veins when he slices someone open kind of sadistic.
If he was a human he would probably be a doctor or surgeon who only has his job because it allows him to legally cut people open.
would’ve probably been one of those school bullies who only bullies someone because he’s in love with them if he was a human
You could literally get him to do anything by being like “ I bet you couldn’t do that. “ or saying “ ____ go get the ____ for me” He makes everything into a competition.
Broke EVERYTHING when he was a child.
Tried to eat a cactus, because Asch dared him to.
Asch didn’t think he’d actually do it.
His sin is PRIDE of course, which is why he feels like he has to prove everything and lives to have his ego STROKED.
Later he tried to shove a cactus up his ass because a stranger on the internet said that only cowards don’t use cacti as dildo’s
He had to go to the doctor many times.
He really liked the large amount of sharp objects in the hospital room
He may or may not be banned from that hospital
The nurse had to file a restraining order it was a sad day.  But they got the pricks out!! and that’s all that matters! PLUS Leif got a new thumb to add to his collection!
He really likes it because its a special decorated one. With PAINT on the tips. its weird and shiny. The nurse probably won’t need it anyways.
He has a rotting placenta in his bedroom no one knows where he got it!(AND NOBODY ASKS) but it still has the umbilical cord attached no baby though :(
He isn’t allowed outside anymore for obvious reasons
He found out what Furbies where and fell in love with them instantly . He stole 20
He made a Furby organ. why? Because its infinitely stupider and more terrifying than a regular one. He forced Rhys to help cause Rhys is smart. It still took like 90 tries and costed Ava alot of money, and Furbies.
He keeps it in his room and he plays it constantly. Mostly to annoy Asch, Ava, and everyone else around him. He also loves the fact that its called an organ.
He was dared to eat a jar of nails and he fucking did it.
He obviously had to use healing magic on himself
He’s really hot for Noi. Like...a bit too much no one notices though.
A bit hotter for Ava than Noi though, That’s why he keeps wanting to penetrate her with his knife. The more he threatens to do this the more he likes you.
His element is Life, or earth. Mostly life which is why he’s so vigorous and excited.
This is also the reason why he’s so obsessed with killing things. when you live your ALWAYS killing, every move you make you end thousands of lives just like that!  Daemos of the life element seem to want to enjoy life to the fullest and never look back. EVER
As such he’s also good at cultivating life, weather it be a plant or an animal. Everyones always surprised by this
Back on Daemos before his snap he’d actually be alot kinder to Noi, ((IN the first 4 episodes whenever Noi got hurt he was the only one to ever show any concern. I find that interesting in contrast to how he threw that out in some of the later ones. )) He’d often be the one that consoles noi or talks things out with him.
Leif is more aggressive, energetic and far more cruel in more docile environments. He becomes much more empathetic, & Calm in hostile ones. ((Like that time where he actually got on Rhys’s case for being too hard on Asch, or the times when he was like “Hey are we actually going to let Noi die” and offering to heal Noi when he was writhing in pain when they came to earth.  ))
He’s actually more perceptive then he seems, he cares about those around him NORMALLY its just going this long without killing anything is maddening for him. HE NEEDS TO KILL. to let it all out, once he does he’ll act as he normally does.
He was the only one even remotely kind to Noi back on daemos, that changed when they got to earth. (besides Pierce. )
Though due to his normal lack of empathy in a world where he’s human he’d probably be one of those people who just don’t care about how what they say affects those around them. Doing and saying whatever he wants regardless of how others may interpret that.
He LOVES Skullgirls. He really likes the character designs and the fact that double always has organs or something hanging out.
He also loves all horror movies and video games where he gets to cause mayhem; Like Saints Row, or Grand Theft Auto!
He’d be the only one of the daemos that is fully accepting of the weird side of the internet. You know the WEIRD side. He’d be into all of the bizar kinky fetishes you’d find on Furraffinity you just know it.
He doesn’t actually like Ava he more-so see’s her as a trophy? I mean well he DOES but he’s mostly in the whole fight for her thing to win a prize. And she’s the prize.   ((Well at least before the newest episode))
Pierce
The most Physically affectionate of the daemos even more so than Noi
Big buff bara man. LIKE BY FAR THE BUFFEST
Would probably run an animal shelter or something if he could
Would be running an animal shelter or something if he was human
Likes….fluffy. waayyy too much
He’s by far the most empathetic of the daemos. Yes even Noi then again Noi isn’t very empathetic.
Very tired 24/7 needs coffee to sustain himself.
Often by himself in the quiet. sometimes while alone with his thoughts they spiral out of control, Regret, Doubt, Despair, Uncertainty, Fear, Insecurity.  All at once. Does he cry not at all. He suffers as he stands Silent. ultimately its impossible to tell when he’s having one of these moments as he doesn’t show it on his face.
 Big PP
He is very loyal but his loyalty isn’t...friendship. He doesn’t really like Asch very much, but he does trust his judgement and follow his orders. He’s a knight after all, besides he appears to have some connection to one of Asches family members ((The daemos in that Flashback had a crown on their horn)
He likes standing because when he stands theirs no threat of getting too comfortable, no chance of falling asleep and drifting away, no chance of drifting into sleep and deciding to never wake up again, no chance of getting lost in the comforts of the object beneath him.
He is the one that cares for Ava the most
Doesn’t really care about the cultural norms on daemos. he flows free like the wind and accepts any new and sudden changes.
Heavyish sleeper, gets grumpy when woken up.  Like if your trying to kill him his instincts will kick in and he will wake up but otherwise he’ll just stay asleep. LIKE THROUGH EVERYTHING
Though while he is the most empathetic of the Daemos he’s also prone to intense levels of apathy, where he just shuts down silent lost in his thoughts unable to be disturbed. these are only momentary
His element is air. Because of this he’s mostly just free and flowing.
Sometimes gives Ava Piggy Back rides to make her feel tall
Potentially one of the only one of the Daemos that genuinely care about Ava.
But also potentially only see’s Ava as a cute pet to love on rather than a person in and of herself. But ultimately he does also care about her feelings, and her opinion on things.
I prefer to think the latter rather than the former.
one time he accidentally befriended a large swarm of bee’s and they followed him to Ava’s house.
 Gives Ava piggy back rides
Out of the Daemos he’s the one who Ava is closest to. The others have yet to even notice this.
One time the boys found porn on the phone and just gathered around the phone looking at it confused all bug eyed. Pierce saw the filth on the screen and made the executive decision to yeet it out the window.
Ava had to buy a new phone
Has a rough yet gentle touch. he takes care and caution when dealing with life.
because of the above him and Leif have an impossibly hard time cooperating when its just them.
The best with animals.
When not caught up in apathy he is the exact opposite. He becomes far too
Noi
He would enjoy fortnight if he played it
Would thrive off of old memes
If he was human he would be that one friend you wouldn’t want to hang out with because he fortnight dances, dabs, uses outdated memes, rick rolls people, and everything unironically.
The least muscular & Thicc by far. he doesn’t have any meat on his bones, unlike the other 4. Flat boney ass.
He’d probably be some sort of social media icon or a street performer if he was human. He thrives off of validation. Though because he’s a clumsy fuck street preforming wouldn’t be the best gig for him.
Likes music the most
Would probably be the first of the Daemos to watch and enjoy Steven Universe. ((Though I’d bet the others would come around. They always come around))
He Rick Rolled Rhys one time.
His sin is Envy, he often feels insecure about himself, and he looks up to everyone else seeing how “Cool” or great they are. ALWAYS saying “GOOD JOB ____” whenever they do something cool, he’s always excited but with that excitement comes the thoughts...Why can’t I do things like that? I wish I COULD BE STRONG LIKE PIERCE, I wish I COULD BE SMART LIKE RHYS, I wish I could be PAMPERED LIKE ASCH, I wish I COULD BE HANDSOME LIKE LEIF. That’s why he’s so focused on being better than everyone else. I wanna try! Let me see it! LET ME TRY FOR ONCE. that comes from not only desire but ENVY. he just channels this envy in a much healthier way than most would. *Cough* Leif *Cough*
He has EXTREME insecurity problems and longs more than anything to be better than the others.
After he found out what breakdancing was he dedicated SO MUCH of his time trying to learn how to do it.
He may or may not be obsessed with that
He also really likes Ava. But he’s moreso in love with the idea of her? He doesn’t really listen to much of what she says due to the fact that he’s so scatterbrained and spacey. He just likes when she talks. He mostly fell in love with Ava because she was the first person to present themselves towards him as an option. back on Daemos he was relatively low class. Thus he was viewed as unmarriageable, worthless, dumb, WEAK, & Poor, So trying to enter a relationship with ANYONE was out of the question. The boy thought he would die without finding love.
He thought Ava was actually GENUINELY interested in romancing him and because of that it excited him. NO ONE HAD EVER actually wanted to romance him. Back at home NO ONE liked him, no one was ever kind to him. Well Leif sometimes was pierce would show some kind of a...paternal affection rarely. But Leif also treated him cruelly and insulted him like the others.
Due to how loving and compassionate he is he was kicked  out of his household.
Despite this Noi isn’t exactly empathetic. He doesn’t pay attention to the emotions of others he’s far too caught up in himself.
In the first 2 days on Earth He & Leif would shit talk Asch behind his back. Mostly talking about how they didn’t really like this plan and just vent their frustrations out at eachother
Starting on episode 5 him and Leif just kinda. He became too scared of Leif to even approach him as much and thus he kinda grew apart from him. thus causing him to latch more onto Ava. AVA likes him, unlike them. HE HAS PROOF after all.
He’s also far too stuck up in the idea of a powerful princess loving him a lowly peasant a low ranking knight someone who.....who wouldn’t be worth anything to her.
If they were to find out about ALL of Ava’s lies he’d take it the 2nd hardest. Asch would be the first, Rhys the 3rd. Leif the 4th, & Pierce the 5th.
Mostly because the only reason why she chose him, the only reason why they went on a date wasn’t because she was interested in him but because she didn’t want her cover blown. He thought she actually loved him not to say she doesn’t care for him but-...he thought she WANTED him you know?
She wouldn’t be a powerful princess, she wouldn’t be a cool sorceress, she wouldn’t be this big thing that he wanted so much she’d just be herself and then Noi’s fantasy would crumble.
Its the dream the fantasy that someone so powerful so strong would set aside their time and pay attention to him take him out in hopes of COURTING him that he fell in love with. Not ava herself.
That being said he does like Ava and even prefer spending time with her to half of the main cast.
Ava
Has to take Prescription drugs
Ate cat food once when she was five
Probably into pet play
Really likes collars
One time she went to some bitch in her high schools  Quinceañera to release a box of 4000 angry bees upon it and run
Greedy
Spends alot of her time watching Anime when not with the Daemos
Her favorite Crystal Gem is Amethyst because god damn
No where NEAR as thick as Aphmau is. She’s alot more twiggy.
Would totally do the WEED if her dads weren’t hovering around her 24/7
Has a lot of Girl on girl porn in her room. Specif under her bed and in her closet.
