though I don’t usually discuss gender and/or sexuality headcanons cuz I LOVEE when other people project their own headcanons onto my art, I also love getting the chance to talk about my own headcanons every once in awhile, so thank you!!!!

so, we all know mettaton, right? the pretty robot from undertale? the man himself, iconic even years later, his wondrousness still filling the minds of many today? WELL we all know he’s trans, correct? going from a genderless ghost to his true self as a robot. WELL, I SEE KIIBO BEING TRANS IN THE SAME SORT OF WAY YKNOW. I really adore the idea that kiibo was made with zero gender in mind, idabashi leaving it up for kiibo to decide whenever the time came. raising him purely genderless for several years (neutral pronouns, clothes, and the like) until he decided on his own that he prefers to be masculine presenting/refered to as a man, and idabashi immediately respected that and started raising him as a man! building more masculine outer armor, helping change kiibos voice if he wished for it, more masculine clothing and uniforms for school, stuff of that sort! (though after becoming more comfortable, especially postgame after he’s rebuilt and doesn’t have to deal with that pesky over armor from ingame, i see him dressing more gnc, just wearing what he likes and not caring whether it’s considered masculine or not, he’s very comfortable in his own masculinity!!!!!)

basically as a huge tldr i headcanon kiibo as a trans man in the same way that mettatons a trans man!!!!!!!

and as a bonus, in AUs where i make kiibo a human/not robot he’s an intersex trans man!!! again, raised genderless until he realized on his own that hes a man :3

wish i had some huge elaborate headcanon paragraphs for shuichi too but he is simply the most bisexual disaster ever and that is all LMAOO most unintentionally gnc cisgender man in my brain

as a little saiibo bonus though, i like the idea that kiibo unintentionally and maybe sometimes intentionally helps shuichi become more comfortable in his own masculinity postgame too, helping his confidence in dressing more freely n such :DD i feel like he’d always feel this pressure to wear more masculine uniforms and such when he goes out due to his more feminine appearance, but seeing kiibo dress without a care in the world really inspires shuichi to do the same!!!!

Let’s talk about you! Tell us something about yourself :)

Yo, I'm Nemi, I'm in my 20s and a whumper all the way, baby. Outside of whump, I like rocks (like have an entire degree in geology like rocks), video games (Octopath Traveler, Pokemon, FE, Nancy Drew PC games...), anime (don't ask me about Chainsaw Man, I won't shut up), and hiking (rocks but in their natural habitat).

What does “whump” mean to you?

I get to stab men and laugh about it. I love violence, I am very sadistic

Your fearsome reputation is something of a legend around here. How did you find whump and what made you want to join?

Very long rabbit hole but to be less long about it, I saw some whump stuff on the blog of a pokemon tumblr I stalked (because I didn't have an account) and I was like, Hey This Is The Shit. I lurked for a while but as time went on, I wanted to talk to people about whump and share my own shit cuz I've never really had anyone to talk to about that sort of stuff (at least not without making them really concerned lol).

Being able to talk about wanting to beat up/stab/restrain a guy without concerned looks and questions is so therapeutic, honestly. Do you have a favourite(s) whump trope?

Gore, noncon surgery & body modification, vivisection, female whumper w/ male whumpee, and just general depravity!

Female whumpers, my beloveds! Speaking of favourite pieces, tell us one that you’ve written?

Uhhhh what have I written at all...mmm, well, as far as Castys things, if I had to pick one, it'd probably be Cycle-stys of Yikes . Basically it's a nice little overview of Castys losing his damn mind while he's stuck in a lab for like 240 years. It's probably one of the darkest things I've written as far as, uh, what happens, and that's saying a lot. Idk I just feel like I did a good job with describing these really fucked up actions as...whatever the hell he thought was happening.

For Erebus and Terror...it's hard. I'm really proud of the whole series, tbh, just how I've been able to develop both Erebus and Neteri over time as they change each other, but for a standout chapter...Maybe Chapter 14, Red, White, and Blue , cuz I really love the way I wrote Erebus's panic and what was happening to him from his POV without explicitly describing what was happening. And what's not to love about how upset he is in that one :)

Damn, Red, White and Blue! You’ve definitely earned your reputation..that was brutal! Is there anything new you’re working on at the moment?

Yare yare...I should get started on the next chapter of E&T at some point, shouldn't I? I mean, I have a huge AU stockpile that's basically all between me and one person and we just sit on them, so probably nothing from there for the people...So yeah, probably the next chapter of E&T whenever I get around to that and then I'll probably try to come up with something for Castys since I'm sure people miss him.

Take it from me, the people definitely miss Castys! Care to share what your writing routine usually looks like?

Hahahaha who knows, man. Back before my lil hiatus, I used to write every day whenever I had time and felt like it, but then I became Gamer Mode for a few months and I'm still working on getting out of that habit. But usually just on the couch or in my room with either my video game/anime OST playlist on shuffle (she's 59 hrs long!) or my weeb playlist (anime ops and whatnot) because if it's English words then it's harder to focus on writing,  y’know. Usually I jump around in whatever chapter or piece I'm writing, writing the scenes or bits of dialogue/description as they come to me, and slowly stitching the whole thing together until it's one whole blanket boy.

Is there an easy thing for you to write, something the words just pour for? Anything you struggle with writing?

The easiest thing in the world is whatever bullshit thoughts Castys is having. He is incredibly easy to channel. Any of his dialogue or what he's thinking about comes without much thought. The words also usually flow for my classic™ incredibly long run-on sentence paragraphs that have like no breaks in them cuz it's all go go go, baby. Erebus and Neteri talking isn't too hard either, especially if they're bickering. As far as hard, probably descriptions of pain because it can hard to say how much a thing hurts over and over without being repetitive. I am also not a researcher.  I will just be out here making shit up because it's MY fantasy world so I can have whatever bullshit I want!

Do you have any words of wisdom or writing advice for us?

Well, my old habit that worked for me was to try and write every day, for at least half an hour. If I end up going more, great, but if it's not working at least I tried. That and inspiration is everywhere. Steal whatever shit you like and cobble it together into something unrecognisable. It's not plagiarism cuz you're making something new. Like, E&T came from Stephen King's Misery and a magical girl anime. Go crazy, go stupid.

If you’re curious, I like to take names from characters I strongly identify with. My own personality isn’t necessarily similar to theirs, but for some reason, it makes me happy to see myself as them. Sol is my main name, and was originally derived from Sal Fisher, from the video game Sally Face. Juno is taken from the main character of the Penumbra podcast series ‘Juno Steel’, and has masculine connotations to me because of him. Chip comes from the character of the same name in Just Roll With It : Riptide, while Art is a diminutive of Arthur Bennett, from Just Roll With It : The Suckening.

This blog is mostly gonna be JRWI stuff, flags and userboxes, with probably an healthy dose of punk/leftist takes and some of my own experiences.

No DNI, but know that I block pretty freely. I’m 20 so keep that in mind. There should be little to no NSFW stuff on here, outside of the occasional artistic nudity, joke and me talking about political stuff that suffer from being censored.

sorry to go off rn but those m cr fans are just soooo bitter for no fucking reason. they think their morals have to align with their music tastes and find any sort of way to find any sort of dirt on other bands they don’t enjoy. example i constantly see callout posts for band guys that usually overlap with similar fans and music with m cr. look i know band guys can suck and obviously they shouldn’t be praised like saints, but these out of nowhere callouts for band dudes i see are always from m cr accounts. are you actually wanting to call out shitty behavior or do you just want points for being high and moral because youre the fan of the most unproblematic feminist anti capitalist band who’s never done anything wrong?

I’m new to it, and while I don’t have any kind of ships that anti’s usually hate (minor/adult, family/family, etc.) I do have a lot of age gap ships and one ships that’s especially problematic.

My super problematic one I use for coping, and I want to talk about and share and stuff, but I’m worried people will send threats or call me things like an abuser bc I like this certain ship.

It sucks that I can’t just talk about my problematic ship, but the pro-ship community makes it better. I just wish there was a way to make sure only pro-shippers see my toxic/coping ship posts, and not anyone else like anti’s or irl friends lol.

Someone put Howl’s Moving Castle on a list of “problematic media” because for the majority of it Sophie is cursed to be a 90yo woman and Howl is in his late 20s. Both the novel and the Ghibli movie had the romance as the subplot, but antis are still against it cuz age gap (also spoilers, she turns back to her original age of 18 at the end, so while the gap is still there it’s not even half as severe). But nooo, a gap is a gap so in it goes! Also, Tangled is problematic. Frozen. Zootopia. Disney as a whole is problematic “just” because “racist.” (While I won’t deny there are some very racist things in Disney media like SotS, the depiction of Native Americans in Peter Pan, the Siamese cats in both Lady and the Tramp AND Aristocats, and the company itself is capitalist asf, to condemn Disney based on “just” racism alone is a bit of a stretch.)

Haters gonna hate for the sake of hating. There’s a high chance it's not going to make a lick of sense to you because of the long leaps in logic to get to those conclusions. And that’s entirely a them problem. I’m actually really surprised When Marnie Was There didn’t make it on the list (iykyk!).

Anyway, back to you. There is a way for you to post freely about your ships here! Two ways, actually!

The first is to make a sideblog.

Pros:

great option if you’re lazy and don't want to log out

anonymity. no connection to your primary blog unless you link it (literally or if there’s enough info to reasonably ID you)

much like a vent blog, a writing blog, or an art blog, can be dedicated solely to one thing so you don’t have to clutter your primary/stuff won’t get buried if you want/need to find them later

can be as private or as public as you want

can get asks (anon or not) and submissions

can block people*

can send Tumblr DMs

*Blocking someone on mobile only applies to your primary blog. I don’t know if there’s a way to do so for sideblogs but if you’re on browser you’ll have go to to Settings > select the sideblog URL > scroll down and manually type in/copy-paste the URL of the person you want to block into the Blocked Tumblrs section. Which leads me to

Cons:

the blocking thing, as mentioned above. if you block from your primary account, you can’t see them, but they can still see your sideblog unless you block them there.

can’t send asks, reply, or follow from sideblog; all interactions will come from your primary

always the risk of posting content to the wrong blog so whether you’re on the web or on mobile, double-check and save as drafts just in case!

if you’re going by a different name/persona, you may need to be careful what headcanons/aus/ideas you put out there. this goes doubly so for artists

The second is to make a new account.

Pros:

brand new shiny clean fresh start! anonymity!

sending asks, following people, replying to posts, all the perks!

no worries about posting to the wrong blog

block to your heart’s content without jumping through hoops

again, can be as private or as public as you want

Cons:

a bit more work (emails and passwords and all that)

might feel trapped to just be about One Thing

same con as the sideblog if you’re going by another name/persona, in that very specific or niche hcs/ideas/aus/art could be used to ID you. or just go for it and pretend this really is another person who just happens to share your exact opinions on things. who’s going to know but you, ya know?

Whichever route you take, do what you need to keep yourself safe. You can’t stop idiots from seeking things out they don’t like (you’d think they just wouldn’t but antis aren't known for being logical, ironic they insist they are), which is why proper tagging is so important. Note the tags proshippers use and tag your posts with those. Pop into inboxes to say hello, a majority of us are friendly and chill! And regardless of what the antis say, you do belong in the main tags. People just need to learn to filter and block shit they don’t like, but that’s far more work than screaming at other people to a) block them first and b) not post things they worked hard on making.

If people call you an abuser for liking something in fiction, they need a serious reality check. Tell them to grab the fictional character’s hand with their real one and drag them away from the person harming them if they’re so concerned. Please. Don’t grab a plushie because that’s a doll and that's not alive. Don’t grab a body pillow because that’s a pillow and not alive. Don’t grab a drawing, that’s paper and not alive. Grab the real, living, breathing character who’s being abused and make it all better. Guaranteed they can’t.

How you cope is your business. You’re not self-harming unless you’re intentionally triggering yourself, and you’re not harming another living person if they happen to see something they don’t want to see. You are not responsible for their reactions. If it matters to them so much how you cope, if it offends them so much, they’re not worried about you, they want to control you. There's no one-size-fits-all approach for dealing with shit. Some people go to therapy, take medication, or both. Ok I feel like y’all need an explanation for why I stormed off so suddenly for seemingly no reason. Well there is a reason.

I know what happened today was just a misunderstanding, I get that. It was just… Adding to the stuff I’ve been dealing with rn both on here and irl.

Between what had happened on here (which is resolved now, don’t you guys worry) and what’s happening at home, I needed a break from… Something.

I had a pretty rocky day at work yesterday. The only person that seemed to give a shit about me was the teacher I was working with that day.

And my brother has been being a dick to both me and my parents and because of that my mom and dad were… Kinda on edge.

Today I had the day off and I spent most of it cleaning and just getting housework done since that distracts me the best. And I did get a lot done. And my mom wanted some of her noodles made for dinner since she’s on the keto diet right now. (If you don’t know what that is, just look it up cuz I don’t even know) So I made the noodles but I accidentally used the wrong flour and because of that, the first thing my mom did when she got home was freak out about it.

No thank you for the housework (accept for washing the dog)

That was just the breaking point for me. I just couldn’t take it anymore. It just felt like the world was against me. So I figured the easiest thing was to just avoid being on tumblr.

I’ve talked to my mom, we’re trying to work things out. I just don’t want to be more distant with her than I already am.

My brother however, is being… Extremely nonnegotiable. So who knows when he’ll stop being a jerk to everyone.

I just don’t want everyone to panic, since I don’t usually take breaks like this. I’ll still be off for probably the rest of tonight and maybe into tomorrow. [REPOST] Just Stitching? - What You Missed On That Hisoka x Machi Scene [A Dialogue Analysis]

I'm too deep into Hisoka x Machi. I already made many posts about them in a single month. How do I cope?

Warnings: if you haven’t read chapter 357 of Hunter x Hunter, then it’s gonna be spoiler so don’t go any further if that’s the case; bad grammar; unedited; typos.

Remember reading these panels in the Hunter x Hunter manga? Those times when Machi offered to stitch Hisoka up, both when he was still dead and after his revival through post-mortem nen.

In the official translations, they translated Machi's lines as such.

But then, I read the Japanese raws, which are posted below:

Hunter x Hunter - Chapter 357

I noticed some things between these two scenes where Machi was talking to Hisoka about doing the stitches to him when he's dead versus after he's revived. Unfortunately, these things were lost in English translation. So today, I will share these findings to you.

1) Machi stitching him for a purpose (or more?).

In the first picture above, she said this to him:

"I'll make your face pretty, as well, for you." (Also has the implication of doing it for some future purpose)

So, in this sentence, she told him she will make his face pretty, but look at the ending of the conugated verb, する, which means to do.

-といて. This is the contracted form of -ておいて, a conjugation of -ておく. -ておくforms are usually used when the action done, being done, or will be done in advance or instance is for future purpose(s). There are other usage for this verb form but they don't fit the context here, at least to my perspective.

So in this scenario, when she said she'll make his face pretty, it's pretty much for the future purpose of funeral or when his corpse is presented to others, or whatever it is that she's thinking of when she says this. So yes, she's gonna do the stitching for a future purpose or two. Or Three.....

But then, after Hisoka was revived, this is what she said to him regarding the stitching:

"I'll do the stitching for you."

In this part, there's no more of the -ておく stuff, so it means that the stitchings will not be done in advance or at the moment for some future purpose. Just flat out gonna do it.

So in the first picture, she intended to do the stitching for him for a future purpose (e.g. funeral, presentation to others before burial), but after his resurrection, she's saying she's gonna do stitchings on him, flat out. No future purpose or anything whatsoever. No strings attached. It's like doing this as nothing more than a service, at least that's how it looks like to me.

It's such a great contrast. Maybe it's because it's so obvious that she omitted the -ておく form. Perhaps, it's just it's useless to stitch him for future purpose or convenience for her now that he's alive and seem to be well. Why did she have this in the pre-revival Hisoka scene and not the post-revival Hisoka scene? Just think about it and keep it in mind for now.

2) Stitching For You: Pre-post Mortem Nen vs. Post-post Mortem Nen

So in the first scenario, Machi's word ends in -てやる.

In Japanese, -てやる is used when:

doing something for someone or a favor, but it's either someone you're very close (like super close) with like best friends, someone that's inferior in rank (e.g. a yakuza member whose rank is inferior), or someone younger, mostly children.

doing something or a favor for an animal (or plants)

doing something harsh to someone (e.g. 殺してやる 'to kill' (and the act is directed to the person you're going to do this to); gotta have strong will, determination, and/or anger in doing that act

Right, here obviously Machi is being very casual to Hisoka, who is lying there dead. Her guard is pretty much down and he's treating him as if they're very close (unless she's talking down to him like a subordinate, which is super unlikely in this scene).

But look at here, when Machi tells him this phrase when Hisoka was revived and all alive now. Look at the ending of the verb:

-たげる, a contraction of -てあげる.

We use -てあげる when you do something or an action for someone, but unlike -てやる, this is more neutral and much more respectful than -てやる. You use this for a classmate, a co-worker in the same department, your friend (not super close ones tho) - basically as long as they are not a superior (e.g. boss in work, teacher, parents). You can also use this instead of -てやる for people of inferior rank if you want to avoid looking or being rude, especially in office settings.

Machi's speech here took a turn. When Hisoka was dead, she was talking to him very casually (note: -てやる) and when she's talking to him after his post-post mortem nen revival sh*t, she's talking less casual; it's more neutral. Informal, casual enough, yet it conveys distance between the two, if you know what I mean.

If you consider this two findings, you can come into the conclusion that she does care about him and doesn't show it in front of him. Notice the changes. When he was still dead, she was totally casual and her guard is completely down. On the other hand, when he's in front of her, alive, and listening in this chapter, her tone is that of one putting a distance between them while at the same time retaining the informal tone. Not gonna blame her since he can take advantage of her easily if she doesn't put that distance. Plus, the man has betrayed the Troupe and just fought Chrollo. So they can't be as close or cool with each other as they were back in chapter 55 of the manga or Yorknew City arc.

So, yeah. Hisoka and Machi scenes in Chapter 357 are a sweet treat. Just like chapter 55, this chapter is literally for Hisomachi shippers. Too bad, a lot of this stuff gets lost in the English translations.

So I don’t usually make posts about anon hate, I’m pretty good at laughing it off and the only one issue I can think about that I couldn’t laugh off was when I left the Zoophobia fandom and an anon (might have been one person could have been multiple, but I suspect it was just the one) was using depression as a form to guilt trip me. As someone who knows two people with depression, I did not and will never find this funny or acceptable. 

That being said this morning I woke up to an anonymous ask, I have since deleted the ask but I do want to address it.

I actually got some replies to this, both on Tumblr and Twitter, and everyone was very civil and when I sent my replies back to them to talk about the show, none of them got weird of hateful towards my opinions - then I woke up this morning to an anonymous ask saying this: “Hazbin fans: Haha, I’m in danger”

There was more to the ask but honestly my brain just kinda blocked the rest of it out, I registered it as hate I didn’t want to deal with so I just deleted it. Let me be clear: I do not hate Hazbin. I never said in the post that I hated Hazbin, go back and read it if you have to. The only thing I said in that post that I didn’t like was the writing in Helluva Boss and a few of the Hazbin redesigns. That’s it. I even stretch to say I hate the redesigns, I’m just not a big fan of most cuz they haven’t changed a lot so there’s nothing to go into a big whoop about. I’d say the one I dislike the most is Adam, that’s all. His design so far is the only one I really have a small issue with. The Hazbin fandom has been running on fan content for three years since the pilot came out, which I and others understand since the crew and Viv herself are limited in what they can and can’t say about the show, but it’s the same deal with Zoophobia. Zoophobia was running on fan content for YEARS and that was why my interest started to waver in the first place, we’ve had no real character information from the team. We’ve had redesigns yes, but that’s it, pictures you can look at for a second. Can you honestly - if you get off your high horse for just a second - say that all of the Hazbin fandom would have the same intense love for this show after three years of no animation? ALL the hazbin fans? 

I like having anonymous asks open, I want to give anyone who wants to ask me a question or send in a headcannon or whatever the opportunity too. I enjoy answering your questions, and yes while I know having anonymous asks open is a two way deal situation where you can’t have the kind asks without running the risk of getting some petty hate every now and then, here’s the main problem here. It is NOT the fact that I’ve received hate that’s the issue here, there’s always gonna be somebody that want’s to feel clever and send in a hate ask just to feel something, my issue is what the anon said. 

Saying stuff like that, thinking you’re being funny or trying to crack a joke, just makes me not want to draw for Hazbin.

I actually have many character bio’s scripted out in my Google Docs for NG redesigns and I even have a completed doodle of Iridescence’s new look in my folders - I shared an old WIP of her redesign to my Patreon a while ago - I was looking forward to sharing this work, and now I don’t want to share it. 

It was asks like these that made me glad I left the Zoophobia fandom in the first place, because the moment I said I was leaving I got more hate then I ever have from any fandom. I have gotten zero hate - ZERO - from the MHA fandom, a fandom that is famous for defending ships till their last breaths. That same fandom that sent death threats to the literal creator of the manga if he didn’t make their ships cannon (which we can all agree I don’t need to make a post about for people to understand why this is a massive step over the line). Zero hate. I’ve had some weird asks, but zero hate. Nothing at all.

If the anon is reading this - I’m pretty sure you are since I’ve got a suspicion you’re the same hater that keeps sending in asks like this - while it is very charming you’re spending precious seconds stewing over what I do and don’t draw, if you sent in that ask hoping it would guilt me into drawing for Hazbin, you’ve only made me not want to post stuff for the fandom.

hi bestie don’t worry i got you. this is a pretty open ended question so my answer is also gonna be pretty open ended. cuz i dont know if you have a plot problem youre stuck on or if youre just starting out and totally blanking. (i suspect the latter but it’s a fun mystery.) BUT if you want to specify what it is about plotting that is killing your crops and manifesting snakes in ur house, ur welcome back in the askbox anytime, i enjoy talking about this stuff <3 im not gonna put this under a cut bc tumblr is auto-shortening posts these days sorry to anyone who has that feature turned off lol

first if you want to you can read this and this. these are asks i got w/ similar questions which may help! the first one is me detailing the fic writing process from start to finish, including how i put all of my ideas in order once i have a basic idea of all the things i want to happen in a fic which is important if you’re just starting out. the second talks about solving plotholes, and how to get used to thinking of the plot of your story, and the events, and the mechanics of the world, as tiny moving pieces under your control instead of rigid obstacles to write around. i think that’s a big part of what makes plot Work instead of fight with you

ok, with that out of the way, here is the big question: what do you WANT from this fanfic? this one is easy enough, usually. we are writing fic for a reason! most fic is written by people who thought their idea was too good NOT to write or who couldn’t rest until they jotted it down or who wanted something very specific that canon and other fic wasn’t giving them. there is something you want to happen here. what is it? once you know your answer, think of it this way: your plot facilitates that desire.

here’s some examples (taken from my own fics, sorry, it’s just easier): 

in anchor, i wanted my teen wolf rarepair to spend lots of time alone together in order to develop a relationship that i felt had more potential, and i also wanted a continuation of teen wolf that didn’t write derek out at the end of season 4 - so i put those two on a road trip at the end of season 4 hunting down derek’s enemy, which gave me my continuation and the alone time and got to follow derek even after he was officially written out

in how arthur got his groove back, i wanted a fic that dealt with the fallout of the episode “the sins of the father” in which everything that happened was covered up and forgotten about, and i also wanted to write a fic with arthur who had magic - so i used a curse that gave everyone magic, but could only be broken by acknowledging the events of the episode instead of letting them stay a secret

in broken road, i wanted a more nuanced take on john’s relationship with his family instead of either apologism or character bashing, and for his return to have something to do with the michael plot of that season - so i had what was going on with michael be the mystery he attempted to solve once he got back, and (even let michael represent john and dean’s relationship in a way), but it left lots of time to have john talk with his family and have them talk with each other

...etc, etc. whatever you want to happen, your plot exists to serve that desire. if you want a reunion with tears and kissing in the rain then part of your plot is that your lovers get parted. if you want to write about a murder then a motive is part of your plot. if you want to write a wedding, then at some point someone fell in love (or didn’t?! gasp!). if you want to write about a long journey, part of your plot is where the characters are going and why. (whether or not these things happen “on screen” is of course up to you; sometimes it’s not necessary to write them.) of course, slice of life fics where nothing in particular happens and single-scene fics are also fine, but i get the feeling you wouldn’t be asking if that was what you’re writing lol

also, as you can see, sometimes you have more than one desire (all of the above examples of mine have two), and it is both satisfying and more efficient to combine them. especially with longfic, if you have multiple things going on in there it makes it feel like a fuller story/more realistic world. (plus sometimes you get unique combinations! not to sound terribly self-involved but i have to say i think my merlin fic was pretty unique in its premise, and i’m really pleased with how it came out.) for example, you could write about two lovers separated in a battle, character a dead and character b getting promised to the bad guy, and so character a goes on a long journey, only to find out when they arrive that character b has already murdered the bad guy, and they have a romantic reunion in the rain, now this big planned wedding can be for them instead. see what i mean? 

then you can have subplots. maybe character a’s parents died when they were a baby and they find out on their journey that bad guy was the one who killed them, or that their dad is still alive but has amnesia, or that their dead parents were secretly next in line for the throne, making character a the lost heir. maybe character b learns the bad guy killed character a’s parents and that’ve the motive for the murder. maybe character a travels with some characters who have their own problems that can be solved with this same journey, such as other people who fled the battle or people attending the upcoming wedding between character a and the bad guy. and there you go, i just outlined a 75k fic in a few sentences! obviously the more plots you have the harder it will be to juggle them (i use spreadsheets) but if you have a big blank “middle” section with nothing in it you can throw More Plot in there to pad it out

the point is, if you have even one tiny scene that you are holding in your mind, you can work outward from it. let’s take an example from earlier. if you want to write a reunion, that’s a plot point. two people get reunited. so, you then also need to know how our two lovers got split up. was there a battle and someone was presumed dead? bam, got a second plot point. now third plot point: how do they find each other again? even if it’s as simple as “they got in a car and drove there” that is a third plot point. before you know it you’ll be swimming in them, especially if you are balancing multiple plots/desires. if you have a friend or a beta reader i find talking it out with someone else is very helpful if you’re blanking. if you don’t, you can type into an empty document as though you’re writing into a chatroom or talk to a rubber duck and that might help too! 

remember also the action-reaction idea of events. like for example in broken road, where dean is caging an archangel inside of him, he can’t get too upset or that will weaken his self-control. so if his abusive father comes back from the dead and says too many upsetting things, the archangel could get out and hurt people. or in anchor, it’s hard for hunters to trust derek because they don’t like werewolves, so if he loses control of himself that could cause them to attack. or in how arthur got his groove back, uther hates and fears magic, so if he’s cursed with it he may get increasingly desperate to be free of magic and ultimately wind up hurting himself. 

(all of this is under your control btw! You Are God In This Universe. the second ask i linked to up top discusses how to keep these things in mind as moving parts that belong to you. and putting your plot IN ORDER after you know what all you want to happen is pretty important imo, so if you want to you can read the FIRST post i linked to at the top of this ask for that. sorry it’s so much extra lol <3)

another question you’ll probably need the answer to is: when/where are the starting and ending points of this fic? since you’re not writing these characters from birth to death, at some point you will hit a place where the story begins and another where the story ends. 

for beginnings: most people say it’s best to start as late as possible, but if there are things you just WANT to write you can since the writing “rules” around fanfic are basically nonexistent. you can begin wherever you like - if you wait until the fic is done or mostly done to post, you can always change it later.

endings: this is a little harder. you want to end after the majority of your plots have been “resolved,” but what that resolution is is very subjective and of course unique to every plotline. the same way you can start late, you can also end early, by hinting at the future or even leaving hooks for a sequel, but you don’t want to leave it so unresolved that it’s frustrating. it’s a fine line to walk and another good reason to get feedback from someone you trust to give it to you straight (but nicely) before you post.

a good rule of thumb to whether or not a plot has been “resolved” is to think of an individual plotline as a question. will the lovers be reunited? yes! resolved. “yes but only for a short time” is also an answer. “no” is an answer. “will these characters get married?” is a question, or even “will these characters figure out a way to AVOID getting married?” in my own fics some of the questions might be “does derek ever catch kate?” or “does arthur ever learn the truth about merlin?” or “does john ever find out that dean said yes to michael?” the question is what draws people in and makes them want to keep reading (to find out the answer, or to get a hint at the answer). it doesn’t have to be a yes or no question, by the way. it can be way more complex if you want, like, “why keep going when things seem hopeless?” or “why fall in love when you keep getting hurt?” or whatever. 

finally, i want to touch on there being two kind of scenes/storylines in most fics - the Action Plot that moves things along, like breaking a curse or hunting down a killer or banishing an archangel, and the Character Stuff where two people just kind of talk and their relationship develops and changes. obviously these two things will overlap from time to time, but sometimes the first kind of plot (action) is really just an excuse for the second kind (character) to happen. and the action plot is what can really trip up people who aren’t used to plotting. but to bring it full circle and go back to desires - what you want out of this fic - if the character plot is what you’re really wanting to write, then the action plot exists ONLY to serve it. especially for fanfic, where the readers also typically desire the character plot, if you just use the barebones of an action plot you’ll still do just fine. as with everything, it takes practice, and the more you do it, the less frustrating it will become.

I think matriarchal culture has to mature in the west. And I think that that’s something that Southeast Asian culture understands very well.

I grew up in a Filipino household where my mom was the beginning and end of every important decision in our lives. Did we want to start guitar lessons? Should we buy a new car? It didn’t happen without my mom’s approval.

It was to the extent that laws didn’t even matter much to me. They weren’t in the forefront of my mind. What mattered at the end of the day was whether or not Mom would approve. If she didn’t approve, my comfort and the comfort of the rest of my family would be next to impossible.

(My experiences aren’t representative of everyone’s, but I doubt they’re unique. And there is a real history of matriarchal leadership in SE Asia)

This philosophy sounds like it could be just as toxic, so what makes it better than we have in the west?

Well for the last century, it seems like America has just started to figure out women’s rights. People here are all like “omg empowering women, what a novel idea!” And I find this so silly coming from a culture where the power of women was never in question.

Right now it seems like the west is confused what an empowered women actually looks like.

When you have femininity leading the culture, there’s an emphasis on personal health and wellbeing. Extra resources go towards building a stronger and more resilient core. Stronger families. Stronger relationships.

When you have masculinity leading the culture, extra energy goes towards achievement by an external standard. Usually, more stuff. More food , more money more power. Strength, both philosophically and IRL.

(It should go without saying that the peak of both these ideals requires an above-standard balance. To be the most “masculine man” by societies standards requires a genuine comfort and reasonable embodiment of the feminine: ie, strong relationships and good health. To be the most “feminine woman” requires embodiment of the masculine: strong drive, ability to exert influence, etc)

Right now with the newness of empowered Western woman, things feel kind of cold. Like women have all this power and don’t know where to put it. There’s no sense of focus or clarity.

It’s like queen elsa alone in her frozen castle.

I guess I should acknowledge: Maybe I’m just a salty single male teetering on the edge of incel culture. Forget about the 4 2+ year long relationships. Maybe I’m just complaining cuz I can’t get no pussy.

But I can’t help but get the feeling that the woman I’m surrounded with are starting to get bombarded with the alpha-male productivity culture that’s just UGH so cringe.

Just like, the way some woman act is so self indulgent and petty it just leaves me impossibly confused. Like it hurts my brain. I love a girl boss. But does she think she can Girl Boss her way into fulfillment? Into a comfortable and well balanced life? Because it really feels like she has no other plan besides than swinging her newfound dick around like a 5 year old.

Like didn’t we already agree that nobody likes the ultra alpha CEO male type in charge of all our companies?

But also ugh even talking about it feels cringe because we’re not supposed to criticize women.

Now that the story is over, what will happen to the blog?

Hey there! Yui here, and I’m here to answer some questions you guys might have about the future of this blog. Some stuff I’ve been asked before and some stuff I’m planning for the future~ ❤️

First of all,

I won’t be deleting the blog.

A lot of people seemed to be worried about that, but I assure you I won’t do anything like that to the blog! I want to leave it up in case anyone wants to reread it, or if someone stumbles upon it 4 years from now and wants to check it out, or heck, just for the sake of archiving alone. I’ve made other blogs I’ve ended up deleting after I was done with them and I always end up regretting it QwQ So don’t worry, this story will be available to be read here until the day tumblr as a website collapses and dies.

Secondly, I’m planning some fun ddlitg-related stuff for the future! The fist of those is “What’s the Deal With: This Story Isn’t Ending Anytime Soon (+Epilogue)”, the series where I explain the motivation behind the arcs, narrative themes, the reason I wanted to take the story in that direction, etc. I’ve mentioned this before, but this episode of WTDW will be way longer than usual cuz I’ve got a ton of things to talk about, so I’m planning to make it a video! I’ve never recorded a video before, so this might take a while to come out as I figure out the basics, but in the meantime I’ll be answering asks and publishing the things you’ve sent me! I’ve more than my fair share of asks piled up that I haven’t been able to answer yet, so imma get to that starting tomorrow~ I apologize in advance for taking so long to respond, but I’ve been extremely busy these past weeks, what with working on the Final Update and moving out of my old place ^^;; But now that I’m done with all the art and am more settled at my new place, I’ll get to answering them! Plans into the future also include a Q&A stream that will be either on our Discord Server or on twitch, depending on the setup I can get going and how many people are interested in joining, so please look forward to that announcement 😊

- anyway yiu were bored so you decided to text your friend, usually he answers right back but he didn’t this time

- not even reading the damn thing like wtf

- after like a couple minutes of impatience he came from the shadows behind you

- it was the same Iida, ya know iida

- he cupped your cheeks when you looked at him

- you were surprised at the sudden affection becuase like.. you guys were still friends..I mean it didn’t really matter but holy damn the stick in ass Iida came and did some type of soft physical contact?

- the Blush on the cheeks were visible and then he deepened his touch on your cheeks

- “hey y/n, how are you doing my feminine fellow?” - “did you get the snacks..?” still sorta surprised about the action he chose

- “snacks? What do yiu mean by snacks? You never said such a thing y/n“

- ya were def confused now… does he have long loss memory now?XD

- you heard a noise from the both of yuz

- both of y’all turned and you saw yet another iida

- “WTF” you swing your hands at the first Iida‘s hands phone flying

- “the hell are ya guys problem?!” - the second Iida walked over a bit and saw the first Iida, he basically came like this

- “excuses me? Who are you and why do you look liek me?”(1st)

- “who informed you to be here?!“(2nd)

- you just had the most deadpanned face yet in your history

- the two iidas were scrabbling with each other

- yo just had to look at them in disbelief

- the second Iida somehow managed to get first Iida to get outta here(racing each other)

- the second Iida just looked at yoi

- and you looked at him

- “y/n… this is the real me“

- your brain was fried, you didn’t you could’ve believe him or not

- “how tf can I believe you if there are two of you, of course I’m not. im not gonna believe any of you until I know some fuckin details“

- Iida can hear how pissed you kinda are through your tone of voice so he just started to walk away with a million things on his mind

- so as your mind, but you just sat on the couch again

- Iida had a plan to get everything he knew you loved

- so another day rolled by, so he mustered up the courage to talk to you again after the previous day

- he was kinda unsure about everything but his mind tells him to do it so he does it

- he goes into the living room of UA with hand of a type of clothing that you liked and some flowers

- classic romantic but cute

- but he saw him again

- touching you again

- anger rummaged and boiled through his soul

- Iida (first) was lounging on the couch with you with an arm around your shoulders and a hand on your lap

- you were kinda like fucking it and idfc what he does no more kinda thing

- “Mr. aizawa clearly told you to stay away from this campus until he figures out what exactly is going on, so please so very kindly oblige his exact ask“

- second Iida was a bit stern but yet first Iida was also stern cuz they the same peeps

- “he never told us anything, you just wanted me to go somewhere else, luckily no avail“ the first iidas face had squinty eyes with a mad eyebrow expression

- second Iida was very ticked off at this statement

- they continued to argue back and forth, it was kinda funny about 2 formal dudes trying getting each other mad

- you saw the things in his hand, the first Iida had no idea you liked those things, but yet the second Iida had the things that you’ve been asking/looking for/ wanted /Iida having reading mind powers

- after a while second Iida came up to you with the things in his hand after first Iida went bai bai I wonder why or/and how

- “I want to prove to you that I am the real one, please y/n just trust me. I know when people say that it doesn’t seem true when they are in this situation“

- you hesitate a bit just staring at him

- “ I got you the snacks… so now we can study since I have the pencils I said I would give you”

- everything fucking clicked like it wasnt obvious that it was the real him

- “ Yeahh.. just please don’t go no where without me”

- Iida felt like he was the most luckiest man on earth because you actually believed in him
