Hi! I would love to hear why you think Klaus and Bonnie would be a compatible or at least fascinating match :) I can tell you're going to turn me into a Klonnie shipper even though the last thing I need in my life is another doomed OTP!!
Hey :D I love a good doomed ship it makes the fandom more interesting especially in terms of creativity tbh.
Bonnie had proven herself to be just as morally corrupt as other characters as needed. Sure, it wasn’t to the extreme of others but it existed especially if her friends were threatened. That type of loyalty and strength would be what Klaus would like because of how possessive and selfish he is.
There’s Bennett-Mikaelson connections through the lore of TVD. Ayana was Esther’s mentor. Abby entombed Mikael. Then in present there’s Esther prasing Bonnie for being the one to fight Klaus. Elijah recruited Bonnie to do it. Both Bonnie and Klaus have parental struggles on both sides. Klaus is more forefront than Bonnie’s but it exists. Tagging my friends content here :).
Tumblr media
Klaus was introduced with an affinity for witches (Gloria, Maddox, Greta..)it was just dropped after well you know ;). But in a sibling light I could see both Rebekah and Kol taking a liking to Bonnie. Rebekah wanted that normal highschool experience and Kol was formerly a witch. We got a little bit of Kennett moments in s4 but that was dropped. Bonnie is the only TVD character to never have her own side friend out the group.
Narratively TVD would’ve just had to work with their few key points to make Klonnie a slow burn ship from s2-4 tbh. Bonnie kept getting the short-stick. Season 3 she got cheated on, her mother abandoned again, she had all the reasons to distant herself from her friends and end up in someone’s darker arms. The Mikaelson Ball ep Esther is leeching off Bonnie and her bloodline yet Bonnie is no where to be found… huh… Bonnie doesn’t get enough in universe credit for her actions because she has not only nearly killed Klaus she has saved his life(and everyone else’s.)
Season 4 Bonnie was dipping into a darker side with Expression and she blindly trusted Shane just to learn magic. It would be another moment for Klaus to try and get in her good graces. Klaus would have to open up emotionally for Bonnie to sympathize with him. I think they would challenge each other. Bonnie is one of the female characters who can fight back to people who are trying to harm her in a way Elena or Caroline can’t tbh.
Bonnie wasn’t just any witch either she was a Bennett which her family is responsible for nearly everything in TVD. I don’t think Klaus would’ve suddenly became a “Disney prince” type of BF by any means but I could see the relationship working. Klaus is still an elitist bastard with years of knowledge Bonnie would want. Bonnie is willing to give that loyalty to anyone who is good to her. Cami is seen as good and she even falls for Klaus lmao.
Last point people only play morality clauses with Bonnie because the series does. By the end of TVD Bonnie considers Damon not Elena or Caroline or Matt her bestfriend. That should say enough about what Bonnie would allow but….The writers and fans will argue that Bonnie doesn’t deserve to be paired up with toxic men or women but TVD never introduced anyone that was “morally good” by our world standards. Even Enzo physically harmed Bonnie pre-relationship. The other leads are white and never held to the same standards. Elena said it was Stefan until it wasn’t. Caroline said no to Klaus until she didn’t. Hayley’s arc includes with her fucking Klaus and dating Elijah… the list could continue.
Hope I made it all clear 😁.

————
“can’t you just do your voodoo magic and fix her?”
“that’s not how it works, damon.”
“well, it works whenever elena needs it. just admit it, you don’t like y/n.”
“i do! this is just more complicated -”
“bullshit! i know you don’t know her very well, but we’ve known her since she was born. she’s my best friend and the love of my brother’s life, who, by the way, is about to go into a frenzy if you don’t fix her!”
“i’m trying! but whatever those traveler’s did, i don’t think i can reverse it.”
“argh!” damon growled, putting his hands under a table and ripping it up.
“okay, you need to calm down,” bonnie said. “throwing a fit won’t help.”
“well, i can’t just stand here and watch her die!”
“she’s not dying, she’s just asleep. the doctor said she will wake up soon.”
“oh, as if the doctor knows anything,” damon muttered.
“she actually knows a lot, and we’ll give her the treatments the doctor recommends before we try any magic.”
damon sighed, running his hands over his face. he looked over to you, tears prickling at the corner of his eyes. he walked over to you, holding your hand in his.
“please wake up, y/n. please.”
it seemed as damon’s wishes were granted. your eyes fluttered open, a soft groan filled your throat as you tried to move your head back and forth. you peered at bonnie and damon, brows furrowing.
“who are you? and why-why are you holding my hand? get away from me!” you hissed, barring your fangs.
“well, she definitely knows she a vampire,” damon muttered.
bonnie ignored him, coming over to you tentatively. “hey, y/n. do you know who i am?”
“no. i-i want to go home. where am i? why-why does this look so strange? hospitals at home don’t look like this,” you gasped as you looked around your room.
“is she still stuck in the 1800s?” bonnie asked.
“let’s see. uh, y/n, what’s the date?” damon asked.
“1866, right?” you guessed.
“oh, shit,” damon muttered.
“what’s wrong?” you frowned. “y/n, you’re in the 21st century. it’s 2013,” bonnie explained.
your eyes bugged out of your head. “what? how-how can this be? you’re lying! you’re some witch! katherine warned me that you would try to trick me. who are you with? wha-what do you want from me?!”
“okay, crazy pants,” damon sighed. “do you know who i am?” he asked.
you took a good, hard look. “you look familiar… like you’re from a dream.”
“good, good, but do you know my name?”
your brain scrambled for the answer, but it all came up was blank.
“no, i’m sorry.”
“well, crap,” damon muttered. “what if we get stefan? he’s been her boyfriend for like, a hundred and fifty years. plus, they’ve been married for 50. she’s got to remember him,” bonnie suggested.
“yeah, okay,” damon nodded. “go and get him. i’ll stay with her.”
“why don’t i stay with her, and you go get stefan. you might irritate her enough to make her snap your neck,” bonnie snorted.
“fine. i’ll be back in a second. try to use your powers on her,” damon asked.
“no. now go,” bonnie shooed away damon.
he left, zooming through the halls to go and find his brother. meanwhile, bonnie went to sit next to you, taking your hand in hers.
“what are you doing. i said don’t touch me,” you hissed.
“what is your name?” bonnie asked.
“y/n,” you said. “what’s your full name?” she asked.
“y/n l/n,” you answered. “why are you asking me this? do you think i do not know my name?”
“no, no. i just…” bonnie sighed. “what’s your mother’s name?”
“louise,” you said. “and your father’s?” bonnie asked.
“martin. and before you ask, my sister and brother’s names are anna and christopher. are you studying me or something? oh, my… i-i swear i’m not dangerous. i don’t feed on people. not usually, anyways. please, spare me. if you want a real vampire, catch katherine pierce. her real name is katerina petrova. or klaus mikaelson, his whole family needs to be killed. please, i -”
“i’m not going to kill you. no one is going to kill you. and katherine is already dead,” bonnie explained.
“oh, really? well, then ignore what i said about her."
bonnie smiled a little. “it’s alright. do you remember anything that’s happened in the last 24 hours?”
“no, i’m sorry. i must ask again, where am i?” you questioned.
“well, you’re in 2013. about one hundred and forty-nine years from when you were turned into a vampire. that man who was here is damon salvatore. he’s been your best friend ever since you were born. you grew up together, and he turned you into a vampire. i’m bonnie bennett. i am… i have a sort of friendship with damon. i’m a witch from the bennett line. i am here to help you. we’re friends, too, actually.”
“oh,” you pursed your lips. “i’m sorry i don’t remember you. i think i remember one of your family members, though… emma, ella, em-”
“emily, yeah,” bonnie smiled. “well, it’s good to know i’m in good company,” you sighed.
“yes, you are. oh, and there’s one more person i forgot to mention. he’s damon’s brother, stefan. he’s your -”
“y/n!”
your head snapped to the door. a handsome young man stepped into the room, worrying filing his features.
“hello?” you frowned.
“it’s me, stefan. you’re husband,” the man said.
your eyes widened. “i-i- excuse me? my husband? i didn’t know i was-” your breath hitched as you saw the ring on your finger. it was a beautiful silver ring with a blue jewel in the middle, stefan and your name carved in the middle of it.
“oh,” you gasped.
“do you remember me?” he asked, coming closer to you.
you looked back up at him, furrowing your brows as you tried to remember. you shook your head in disappointment. “no, i’m sorry. i wish i could. what happened to me that i can’t remember my own husband?"
“travelers took your memory,” bonnie answered. “travelers? l-like the evil witches?” you guessed.
“yes, precisely,” bonnie nodded.
“well, can you get back my memories? you’re a witch, right?” you asked her.
“exactly! that’s what i was saying. i’m so glad someone gets it!” damon exclaimed.
“i-i’m sorry, who are you again?” you frowned. “damon. i’m damon salvatore. the best salvatore, and your best friend,” he grinned.
“oh, right - damon. and you’re uh, you’re bonnie, correct?” you turned to the brunette.
“i am,” bonnie nodded.
“and you’re…“ you turned to stefan.
hope was shining in his dazzling green eyes. his lips were pulled into a frown, his brows furrowed as tears clouded his eyes.
“you’re stefan! my, uh, my husband whom i can’t remember. i’m so sorry, again.”
“it’s okay,” he sighed. “you just woke up. you’ll probably remember later.”
“yes,” you nodded, “that’s probably it.”
just then, the doctor came in. she checked you out, telling you that you had to stay in the hospital one more night before you could be discharged. after she left, damon, bonnie, and stefan made up a plan.
“i can’t just put her memories back. i don’t have any access to them,” bonnie said.
“can’t you just pull them out of the air or something?” damon asked.
“magic doesn’t work like that, damon,” bonnie glared.
“what if we take her to all her favorite places? places she’s been to lots of times,” stefan suggested.
“yes! that is a great idea, except for the fact that she thinks she’s in the 1800s and most things that were there have been torn down or rebuilt!” damon seethed.
“well, then what else are we supposed to do, damon! we can’t just sit here and hope that her memories will come back. what if they never do!” stefan yelled.
“shut up you two! you’re scaring her!” bonnie hit both of them, then pointing to you.
both of the salvatore’s face softened as they saw your eyes wide with fear.
“look, she doesn’t know you two yet. she doesn’t trust you two. she literally thought we were going to capture her for being a vampire. we need to just take it easy and gain her trust, which won’t be hard, i hope. but i think that stefan’s idea is great. and stefan, you should be the one to do it. you deserve to build the strongest bond with her and to spend the most time with her,” bonnie explained.
stefan smiled at her gratefully. “thank you, bonnie.”
“of course, stefan,” she smiled back at him.
“what about me! i was her friend before you were even born!” damon poked stefan.
“she was literally a baby, damon. she didn’t even know who you were,” stefan scoffed.
“oh, she did. and she loved playing peek-a-boo with me,” damon huffed.
“well, i’ve been her actual best friend just a few months after she was born. you’ve been like the brother she’s never had,” stefan stated.
“same difference.” damon rolled his eyes.
“b-bonnie?” you stammered.
“yeah, what do you need?” bonnie came over to you immediately.
“um, i need to use the bathroom.” you whispered.
“oh, yeah, of course. gentlemen, please exit the room.” bonnie said to the two men.
“alright. hey, y/n, you hungry? we can get you something to eat,” damon asked.
“yes. i’m famished, honestly. um, can i have some meatloaf, please? with some wine?” you requested.
“um, y/n, i’m afraid to inform you that -” damon started, but stefan cut him off.
“we’ll see what we can find,” stefan said.
“thank you… stefan, was it?” you guessed.
“yeah. it’s stefan,” he smiled. “okay, c’mon, lover boy. the lady needs to use the restroom,” damon grabbed stefan, dragging him out of your room and shutting the door.
bonnie then helped you out of the bed and into the restroom, waiting behind the door until you called for help.
“thank you so much. your kindness is very much appreciated.” you smiled at her as she helped you back to bed.
“it’s not a problem.” bonnie sighed with a smile.
“will you be able to get my memories back?” you asked.
“um… no. not right now, i’m sorry,” bonnie frowned.
“oh, well, it’s alright. maybe it’s for the better. i can’t imagine all the horrible things i must have done to you and your friends,” you laughed sourly.
“what do you mean?” bonnie asked.
“well, i… i overheard you a little when i was waking up. damon said that you didn’t like me much. i don’t blame you, i mean, i can be crass and judgmental, but i’ve changed over the years. i-i think, at least. otherwise i suppose i would be dead from those travelers now. no one wants to help a horrible person,” you explained.
“well, you’re not horrible, at all. for someone who has been with damon for like, almost two hundred years, you’re very kind. you’re also very funny and you try to help people the best you can.”
“oh, thank you,” you smiled shyly. “um… what do you mean about being with damon?”
“oh, he’s just um… not my favorite person to be around is all. you’ll see,” bonnie chuckled.
“i think i have, a little,” you giggled. “but he seems to care a lot about me. i suppose he’s known me since i’ve been born.”
“no, he does. honestly, like stefan said earlier, damon is the older brother you never bad.”
“and stefan, he is supposed to be my best friend and lover?”
bonnie smiled, “yes.”
“can you tell me about stefan? do-do you know him well?” you asked.
“i do, actually. he’s so kind, always wanting to help people and be the best. i swear, he works himself to death trying to be the hero. he’s very level-headed and extremely smart. he’s more mellow than damon, definitely, but he has his funny, savage moments. he’s dealt with a lot of pain in his years, and you’ve been there to experience it all. in fact, he always tells us how you are his light. it’s really sweet. i wish someone talked about me like that.”
heat crept up your neck and you couldn’t help but smile. “well, i understand why i fell in love with him, then.”
bonnie chuckled, “yeah, he’s a great guy. he’s probably more rough around the edges now than he used to be, though.”
“well, that’s what happens when you’ve lived for so long,” you chuckled. “i personally think i’ve softened over the years. i remember when i was a little girl, i used to be so quick and temperamental. my mother always tried to reprimand me, but i had a mind of my own, i guess. or that’s what my father used to say. now that i think about it, i think stefan is the reason why i have changed. he’s seemed to rub off on me.”
“wait, are you starting to get your memory back?” bonnie asked, getting excited.
“no, i’m afraid not. well, not of current things. i just am remembering things about myself. i still don’t remember damon or stefan,” you frowned
“oh, well, it’s okay. you only woke up an hour ago. we’ll give it time.” bonnie patted your arm.
“thank you. you must forgive me, i’ve always had a horrible memory. and now with mine taken away, i probably will be a burden.”
“no, no,” bonnie shook her head. “please, you’re our friend. i’m sorry if damon made it seem like i don’t like you, but i do. we just don’t spend time with each other that much, but we definitely will now.”
“i hope you don’t mind it, then.”
“i definitely don’t, don’t worry.”
you two sat in a comfortable silence, stefan and damon coming back only a few minutes later.
“so, you can’t have any wine, so we got you the next best thing: grape juice. and we also didn’t find any meatloaf, but we did find some spaghetti and meatballs,” damon said, setting it all down on the table.
“oh, thank you two so much.” you smiled. you began to get up, your feet slipping suddenly.
stefan rushed to catch you, his hands going under your arms. your eyes met his immediately, your breath getting caught in your lungs. you fell into a sort of a daze as he lifted you back up on your feet.
“my, you’re handsome,” you muttered.
“thank you. you’re beautiful,” stefan smiled.
your jaw fell open, your eyes widening. “o-oh. did i say that out loud? i am so sorry -”
“no, it’s okay. it was really nice to hear that,” he assured you.
“alright, thank you,” you smiled. “of course. my pleasure.” he let go of you, pulling out a chair.
“so, i say we compel the doctor to let you go home now so we can get this show on the road!” damon announced.
“no, they need to monitor her-”
“she’s a freaking vampire, bonnie!” damon exclaimed in a hushed whisper. he then turned to you. “you feel fine, right?”
“yes. a lot better now that i’ve eaten,” you answered.
damon grinned, clapping his hands. “see? she’s fine. i say we get her into her room and let her sleep in her bed.”
“damon, that’s not-”
“excuse me,” you interrupted stefan, peering at him through your eyes. “if you don’t mind me interjecting, i’d quite like to go home. and damon is right, i am a vampire so besides my memories, my body has healed me completely.”
stefan looked at you for a few moments, sighing before talking again. “yeah, that makes sense. are you sure you’re okay to go home? i mean, you almost slipped -”
“i am okay, stefan,” you smiled. “these floors are quite slippery with these socks on.” you moved your feet to show them.
“right,” he nodded. “okay, well, damon? i assume i can trust you to compel the doctors?”
“on it!” damon grinned, rushing out the door.
“is he always this eager to help?” you asked. “only when it comes to you,” stefan chuckled.
“well, i suppose that’s okay, for now,” you hummed.
“yes. you are our first priority,” stefan smiled.
“oh, please don’t let me ruin your daily routine. like you said, damon likes helping me. he seems to not have anything important to do, anyways, no offense.” you lowered your head sheepishly. “but he can help me while you two go to school and such. do you go to high school still?”
“no, we don’t. well, stefan doesn’t, anyways,” bonnie chuckled. “i’m going to college in the fall.”
“oh, that’s wonderful! i see the women have made lots of improvements. what are you going to study?” you asked.
“research and analysis. it’s not really a study, but that’s what i’m majoring in.”
“wow, you must be so smart, then. good for you. i wish i went to college,” you frowned slightly. “
“you did,” stefan spoke up. “oh? what did i study?” you perked up.
“literature. you went around the world teaching english and literature. part of it was to fit in as a human, but another part was because you always had a passion for it.”
“sounds like me,” you smiled. “i loved reading so much. i remember my mother had to hide my books for when we ate dinner.”
“woah, you’re remembering things now?” damon walked into the toom
“not really. i’m only remembering things about myself and my family.”
“damn,” damon muttered. “it’s alright,” stefan said. “anyways, we good to go?”
“indeed we are. let’s roll,” damon said.
stefan helped you out of your seat. you took out your IV, damon rushing you to his car.
“wow. this is beautiful,” you admired his chevy.
“i know! she’s my pride and joy.” damon sighed happily as he opened the door for you.
“thank you,” you smiled at him. he returned the smile, getting into the passenger seat.
“i’ll drive her home, i-”
“actually, can stefan drive me? i’d like to get to know him more. he is my husband, after all,” you said.
stefan’s chest swelled with happiness, his lips upturning into a bright smile.
“i suppose. don’t total my car,” damon warned stefan.
“no promises,” stefan smirked, getting in the driver’s seat. “you know i’m kidding, right? i won’t crash the car.”
“i know, don’t worry,” you smiled. “great,” stefan breathed out as he started the car.
“this is amazing technology. so much faster than the horses.”
“yep. it’s amazing how far we’ve come.”
you nodded, turning your head to look at him. you looked down at his left hand, smiling a little as you saw a silver wedding band.
“how long have we been married for?” you asked.
“50 years. 51 this summer,” he answered. “how long did we date for?” you asked.
“well, we actually didn’t date until we turned vampires. as you probably know, your emotions are heightened once you turn. and our crushes on each other were just too much to ignore, we started dating. we helped each other out a lot, you helped more than me. i mean, i-i was a wreck. with katherine turning us into vampires and all, me killing my dad, damon abandoning me. you were the only person who stuck by me. you know, you were, and still are, my light,” he explained.
you grinned, “bonnie told me that that’s what you call me.”
“ah, she’s told you about me, then. what did she say?” he asked.
“well, she said that you’re very kind and are always wanting to help people. she also said that you are smart and serious, but that you have your breaking moments. she also said that you have experienced a lot of pain. i am sorry to hear that,” you frowned.
“bonnie is very kind. too kind, actually.”
“oh, don’t say that. i happen to think it’s all true. just from what i’ve seen today.”
“thank you. i’m glad i’ve made a good impression.”
“well, you are my husband, so i would think that what bonnie said is true.”
“makes sense,” he nodded. “so, where do i live? with you, i presume?” you questioned.
“yes, and with damon. we live in the salvatore boarding house. it was built for uh, well, boarding in mystic falls.”
“do we have separate rooms?” you asked.
“u-um, no. but, if you’re not comfortable with that, there are plenty of spare rooms-"
"no," you said quickly.
stefan glanced at you, eyes wide in surprise. you chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of your neck.
"u-um, what i mean is that it is okay. i'll get to know your quicker if we share a room. just um, let me have my privacy?" you requested.
"of course, of course," he nodded. "lovely," you exhaled deeply.
you looked out of your window, observing all the people walking around town square.
"so much has changed," you said, a little nostalgic.
"i know, it's crazy," stefan laughed. "but, i'll take you to all the old places we used to go, and the new ones you have gown accustomed to."
"sounds like a deal. you know, i'm excited. is that um… strange that i am so lively after having just woken up from my memories being taken away?" you chuckled a little.
"no, no, not at all. you were always really happy and upbeat, even on the darkest days. that's one of the reasons why i fell in love with you. you may not believe this, but, i'm kind of a debby-downer. you keep it light and fun, much like damon, actually. seems as though all that time you spent with him, as young as you were, you developed someone his behaviour."
"is that a bad thing? bonnie insinuated that damon isn't a good guy," you frowned.
"no, no. you're different. you pick and choose when to be a little um… eccentric. damon just says whatever comes out of his mouth, no matter what the situation is."
"i suppose that's another reason why you love me?" you grinned. "yes, you suppose right," he nodded.
"is this the boarding house?" you pointed to the mansion stefan was pulling in to.
"yes, it is. and, you can call it your home. that's what it is," stefan said.
"alright. it's beautiful." you admired the front.
"it's even better inside. especially our bedroom. you really know how to decorate." he got out of the car, opening the door for you.
"you're very chivalrous. i like it," you giggled. "well, anything for my girl," he flashed a warm smile.
your stomach flipped suddenly, a similar feeling to your heart hammering in your chest awakened. if your heart was still alive, then you it would be palpitating and ramming into your ribcage. you smiled back at him, getting out of the car.
you two walked together to the front, stefan opening the door without unlocking it.
"do we always keep the door unlocked?" you asked. "yeah. you know, the only people we are really worried about are vampires and well, you can't get in unless you invite them in," he answered.
"oh, right. well, that's nice. we don't have to worry so much about security," you said as you stepped inside.
he nodded in agreement, closing the door behind him once you two went inside.
"wow. you're right, it is better inside," you gasped. "mmhm. so, let me show you around. this is the grand study. it was mostly used by our nephew zach, but damon killed him as soon as he got here," stefan sighed.
"o-oh. and damon is supposed to be my best friend?"
"he's better than that, don't worry. you'll see, you'll remember," stefan patted your back.
"alright," you nodded. "anyways, right here is the library's and just out here is the grand hall. here is the dining room and the living room. back there is the kitchen, and next to it is the hearth room." stefan walked you around the house.
"it's amazing. wow, and to think this is my home," you laughed. "yep, all yours," stefan smiled as he heard your laugh.
he admired you as you walked through the living room, feeling around the bookshelves and the furniture. he missed this, seeing you back at home. before you woke up in the hospital, you had been kidnapped and tortured for two weeks before the travelers dumped you in the backyard of your house. after that, stefan rushed you to the hospital and about a day later you were awake. and now here you were, making yourself at home again. you looked so pretty in the setting sunlight. stefan almost wanted to cry at the relief of finally having you home.
"show me the upstairs?" your voice pulled him out of his thoughts.
"yeah, yeah, of course," he nodded. he reached his hand out to you, you taking it graciously.
you both smiled at each other, stefan leading you up the stairs.
"so, up here is damon's room. that's where elena, his girlfriend, and him usually are. they have so much sex, you won't be able to get much rest here," stefan snorted.
"i'll make sure to wear my earplugs," you giggled.
stefan smiled at you, walking you to the next rooms. "these are the baths. and right here is our room. every other room up here is a guest room, but uh, this is the main event, i suppose." he opened the bedroom door, letting you peer inside of it.
he was right, you were a great decorator.
the room had green walls, bookshelves on the walls, and a few plants here and there. there was a big bed in the middle with gray sheets, pictures of the two of you hanging above the bed frame. there was a desk and chair in the middle of the room, books and papers strewn all over the desk top. there were picture of you two all over the walls, making you smile whilst also crying.
"what's wrong?" stefan rushed to you.
"oh, it's nothing. i just…" you sighed, turning to him. "these pictures are so lovely. i-i wish i could remember these events."
stefan took your hand in his, giving you a small smile. "don't worry about it. it's not your fault that you can remember.”
"right," you nodded, still disappointed in yourself.
"why don't we go and walk around town? maybe that'll help get your memories back," stefan suggested.
"that sounds fun, but i don't think walking around will reverse dark magic," you joked.
stefan chuckled, nodding in agreement. "you're right, but, you're starting to remember your own childhood. we don't know what the travelers took from you, so maybe they didn't take the memories of you and i. you might just have amnesia."
"i'd love to do anything to try and remember," you said. "me, too. before we go, do you want to change clothes? you've had these clothes on for two weeks," stefan gestured to your ripped shirt and dirty jeans.
"oh, yes. i didn't even realise i was wearing these." you looked down at your legs, eyes widening at the fact you were wearing pants. "when did they invent these?"
"1873, but women still couldn't wear them until the 19th century. and even then, women didn't wear them as regular clothing until the mid-20th century," he explained.
“well, i’m glad that i’ve stayed alive this long to be able to wear these. what are they called again?” you asked.
“jeans,” stefan answered. he walked over to your closet, opening it and presenting all your clothes. “and you have lots of jeans. so, go ahead and get changed into whatever. if you want to shower then go ahead, the bathroom is to the right.”
you nodded, “thank you. i’ll be done in a few minutes.”
“no problem. take your time,” he smiled.
you returned the expression, watching him as he left the room, shutting the door behind him.
you went to your closet, running your hands over your clothes. you had lots of grey, purple, and blue shirts. you saw lots of ripped jeans, some were their regular blue and others were white or black. you chose a light purple, short- sleeved shirt and a pair of dark-wash jeans. you found a pair of black panties and a black bra to match.
you went into the bathroom, turning the shower on and undressing. you put your dirty clothes in a near pile on the floor as you didn’t know where the hamper was. you set your clean clothes onto the bathroom sink, jumping into the shower.
the hot water felt so good, it was hard to get out, but you didn’t want to keep stefan waiting too long. you dried off quickly, looking at yourself in the mirror after you got dressed. you didn’t realize, but you were very dirty and tired-looking before showering. you looked better now. more awake, clean, and pretty.
you didn’t bother putting on makeup, not even knowing where you kept it. you went downstairs, finding stefan in the living room reading a book.
“i am ready,” you announced.
stefan looked up, jaw dropping as he looked over you.
“you look gorgeous,” he spoke.
you smiled shyly, lowering your head in bashfulness. “thank you. it’s not much, just a comfortable outfit.”
“doesn’t matter. you look amazing,” he shrugged.
“thank you, again.”
“of course,” he smiled. “let’s go ahead and go, yeah?”
you nodded, slipping on your shoes as you followed him out to the garage. you got into stefan’s car, driving back to town square.
“a lot of places have been built or torn down. i’m going to take you to the places we used to go to in this century, then go to the places from long ago that have been torn down,” he explained.
“sounds good,” you nodded.
he parked next to the strip mall, getting out and opening the door for you.
“are men still as chivalrous as you?” you jumped out of the car.
“no, not at all, but i like to be known as a gentleman. it sets a good first impression,” he answered.
“that’s sad,” you frowned. “it is. honestly, most guys nowadays are jerks and are selfish. no one teaches kindness anymore,” he sighed.
“well, i’m thankful i chose a man who still cares about those things. it really reflects on what kind of man you are.”
“i agree,” stefan nodded.
you two walked onto the side walk, stefan lacing your fingers together and guiding you into a store.
“this is your favorite store in the whole
town square. you always rave about the good deals and i’ve bought you lots of jewelry here,” he explained.
you hummed in reply, looking over the store. “it’s quaint. i see how it would appeal to me.”
“yeah, this store is the most popular one here, i’m pretty sure.”
“the owner must be rich, then.”
“probably is,” stefan nodded.
he then led you out of the store, explaining all the other stores and restaurants in the town square before stopping and showing you a specific place you liked.
“this is the grill, the most popular restaurant here. you and caroline, who you have yet to meet, love to sing karaoke here. you and bonnie and elena, who again, you have yet to meet, play pool here and get tipsy on the weekend.”
“what is karaoke and pool?” you questioned.
“karaoke is when you pick a song you like, and you sing it with a friend, or sometimes yourself. a lot of bars have karaoke, and some restaurants do, like this one. it’s just a fun activity for drunk people, honestly. and pool
is this game over there. you see those people
shooting the balls with the sticks?” he pointed across the room.
you studied them, seeing as they would curse in disappeared, or jump and clap in happiness.
“yes, it looks fun.”
“it is, and you’re quite good at it. maybe tomorrow you can meet everyone else and i’ll teach you how to play,” he suggested.
“i would like that very much,” you smiled.
“me, too,” he smiled back. “are you hungry? we can take a break from walking and get something to eat.”
“my stomach does ache a little. what kind of food do they have here?”
“burgers, fries, salad. classic american stuff, basically. i can order what you usually do.”
“sure, but i’m afraid to tell you that i have no money,” you sighed.
“it’s not a problem. this is my treat. plus, we have a joint bank account so, it doesn’t really matter who pays.””
“wow, that’s nice.”
“it definitely is.”
stefan then led you to a small booth, ordering immediately once the waiter came.
“tell me more about yourself,” you prompted.
stefan stared at you, not expecting you to want to know about him. it wasn’t completely surprising, but you just seemed a lot more interested in the town than him. he was happy that you asked, though. it reassured him that you two had a chance, even if you two had to rebuilt your relationship.
“okay, well, my birthday is november 1st, 1846. my favorite color is blue, my favorite type of alcohol is bourbon, but i do like a glass of whiskey every once in a while. one of my best friends was lexi branson. she was also your friend, too, but damon killed her for absolutely no reason.”
“oh, my - i am so sorry, stefan,” you gasped. “oh, it’s alright. damon has uh, since proved himself to be better… unfortunately,” stefan sighed.
you put your hand on his, looking him in the eyes.
“it’s not alright, stefan. i know you say damon is a lot better than people say, and that he has proven himself better, but that doesn’t justify what he did. i’m so sorry you lost lexi. i understand what it is it like to lose someone so close to you. i’m sure you remember, but i lost christopher only a few years after we became vampires. i don’t remember all of it, but i do remember terrorizing a whole village because of the anger and depression i felt. i’m sure lexi was an amazing young woman. one day, i would love it if you told me more about her.”
stefan smiled at you gratefully, eyes prickling with tears. “thank you, y/n. it means a lot to me. and yes, i’d love to tell you about her.”
“fantastic.” you squeezed his hand for support, the gesture warming his chest. “anyways, go on,” you said, keeping your hand on his.
“alright. well, i love i love lucy, which is a ‘50s sitcom that, funnily enough, you hated,” he chuckled.
“what is a sitcom and why did i hate it?” your brows knitted together in confusion.
“well, a sitcom is a comedy tv show. and a tv show is content that is broadcasted onto something that is called a television, which was the big black screen in the living room of our house. sitcom is a type of tv show. there are sitcoms, dramas, romance, horror, and lots of others. a lot of these genres bleed together, much like books. and as for why you hated the show, you just thought it was annoying because i would watch it all the time.”
“well, i do have a short temperament, so that explains it, i suppose. that tv show thing is a little confusing. can you show me how it works when we get home?”
“yes, of course. i can show you your favorite tv shows and movies,” he nodded eagerly.
“lovely,” you smiled at his enthusiasm. “so, what else do you like?”
“well, i am a fan of scorcese, who is a famous tv director. he directed taxi driver, which is a film i am a fan of. i love to cook, and i’m quite good at it, if i do say so myself. um, let’s see… what else is there…” he trailed off, looking at the table as he thought. “i am a bit or a hoarder, as you probably could see in our room. i enjoy any and all types of music, i have a rose tattoo on my right shoulder, and i am a scorpio, if that means anything to do.”
he looked back up at you, the tips of his ears turning pink as he realized you were staring and smiling at him the whole time.
“why’re you looking at me like that?” he asked.
“it’s just nice hearing all these things about you. i can piece together who you are, who the man i am married to is. it’s obvious you don’t open up to people a lot, and i appreciate you doing that with me,” you explained.
“oh, well, it’s no problem. you’ll remember all these things, anyways. but this is just surface level stuff, nothing special.”
“i think it is special and important. now that i know you a little better, i’m able to talk to you more and be more comfortable.”
“mm, that’s true,” he nodded.
you gave him a small smile, your food then arriving.
“wow, this is a lot,” you chuckled, looking at the cheeseburger and fries.
“it’s really good, too,” stefan said.
“how do i eat this?” you asked. “pick it up in your hands and take a bite, like this.” stefan took a bite of his burger and fries.
you followed in suit, groaning in pleasure.
“my, they never had this food at home. this is delicious.”
“i know, right? so glad america stopped the wine and beef soup at dinner.”
you giggled, nodding in agreement. you two ate in silence, stefan paying before you two left.
“do you want to continue going around town, or are you tired?” stefan asked.
“i want to continue,” you stated.
“alright. time to go to all the torn down places now,” he sighed, walking you back to his car.
you two drove a little ways away from town square, finding yourselves at the cemetery.
“are anna, christoper, and my mother buried here?” you asked.
“yes, they are. do you want to see their graves?” stefan asked.
you sat in the car for a few moments, holding your seatbelt in thought. you shook your head as an answer.
“no, i would hate to put a damper on this lovely evening.”
“oh, well, it’s okay. you always manage to make things bright and happy, even when we’re visiting the cemetery, but if you really don’t want to, then i’ll take you to the salvatore estate, and where your house was located.”
“mm, i am sure. we can visit some other time,” you smiled.
he returned the expression. “alright.” he got out, going to open the door for you, but you had already jumped out.
“sorry, i um, wanted to see how the door works,” you admitted sheepishly.
stefan grinned, finding your curiosity adorable. “no worries. ready to go?”
“indeed i am,” you nodded.
you took the initiative and laced your fingers with his. stefan glanced at you, his chest swelling with joy. it was almost like old times.
“so, where is the salvatore estate?” you asked.
“it’s just a mile into the woods. there’s only a singular pillar there because it got torn down, but the pillar marks the spot where the house stood.”
“why did it get torn down? it was such a beautiful home. surely someone from these days would want to live in it,” you frowned.
“you’d think that, but i guess folks these days want something more modern. but, wait, do you remember my house?” hope filled his eyes, carrying all the way through his voice.
“i think i do. it seems… familiar in my mind. i remember the front of the house, the beautiful entrance and the pretty rose bushes, the steps that led up to the door. i remember a room… it was of medium size. there was a big bed in the middle, a deep-sea blue carpet under it. there was a bug mirror across from the bed, a painting or two hung up on the walls. there was a small desk in the corner next to the closet. the room is very empty, but it brings back feelings of warmth and calmness.”
“yeah, that was my room. you spent most of your summer’s in there with me.”
“oh,” your eyes lit up. “you said that we didn’t officially get together until after we were vampires, but i remember being in the bed in lots of white, button-up shirts. did we-?” you looked to him, eyes wide and hoping he would say yes.
his cheeks were tainted pink as he nodded. “yes, we had lots of fun nights, but not all of them consisted of sex.”
“i see,” you nodded, a little smile on your face. “what else did we do besides sleep together, then?”
“well, most times we just laid there in each other’s arms. sometimes i would read to you and you would fall asleep in my arms. other times we danced, sang, talked about the future together. and let me tell you, we definitely did not imagine an eternity together, but i’m really glad it turned out that way. despite all the pain we suffered.”
your chest warmed as you imagine you two in the 1800s, doing more and being more than just friends with intimate relations.
“does damon know of this?” you questioned.
“he does, but no one else doesn’t. to make things easier, we just told everyone that we started dating after we became vampires, and that we got married in 1963, which we did.”
“and how was the wedding?” you asked.
“the best night of my life,” he grinned. “we have lots of pictures of that night in the living room and our room, which i will show you when we get back.”
“i can’t wait,” you smiled giddily.
you squeezed stefan’s hand, the gesture making both of your body’s shiver.
“here it is,” he said, taking you closer to the singular pillar.
you let go of his hand slowly, walking around the property. you closed your eyes, feeling the cool breeze fan your face. you stood in the middle, right where the living room be. lots of memories then flooded back to you, making you snap your eyes open.
“your father didn’t like us together,” you stated.
stefan furrowed his brows. “yes, how-how do you know that?”
you didn’t answer him, continuing to reminisce.
“i was meant to wed damon, yet, i fell in love with you. your mother would let us play together, knowing that the fate your father decided wasn’t going to happen. she accepted us. she actually liked us better together than damon and i. she thought damon was too wild, too untamed to settle down so young. he was like her, in that way. but you, once you saw me at our first ball at age 14, you knew i was the one. i remember you telling me this one night on my sixteenth birthday. you had taken me up to your room, sneaking up extra cake for me, and we laid together on your bed. that was both of our first time that night - it was amazing. you told me before we went to bed about your growing feelings for me. that night we both said ‘i love you’ for the first time.”
stefan stared at you, mouth agape and tears welling in his eyes.
“you-you really remember that?”
“i do,” you smiled slowly at him. “i remember the marks you left on my skin, the joy i felt as you held my hand, the way i cried when you told me that you loved me. i-i’m afraid that this is all i remember, but -“
“no, no, it’s enough. it’s more than enough,” he sniffled, coming closer to you. he slipped his hand into yours, his other hand wrapping around your waist.
you smiled, putting your free hand on his cheek, rubbing your thumb up and down on his cheekbones. you looked into his eyes, studying his face as your hand went up and ran itself through his hair. you brought your hand back down to cup his cheek, your fingers dancing along his jawline.
“i also remember skipping school, playing football in the backyard, me wearing your shirt for the first time and it leading to us sleeping together again,” you giggled.
“how do you remember all of this?” he asked.
“the travelers must’ve just took all the important information about us, which we can deal with later. i want to enjoy this moment now,” you breathed out.
“thank god that they took that important stuff. it’s not that important once you think about it,” he nodded.
“i agree. i bet damon wouldn’t agree about that, though,” you joked.
“well, damon has never been madly in love until the last couple of years. but, me? i’m been in love with you forever.”
your lips spread widely and you looked deeply into his eyes, feeling yourself falling for him again.
“i love you,” you exhaled. stefan grinned, “i love you more.”
“nu-uh,” you shook your head. “mmhm,” he smirked.
you moved in closer, your nose bumping his softly. your eyes flickered down from his eyes to his lips multiple times before closing the gap. your lips met his in slow motion, immediately moving with his. his lips were soft and kissed you well, like he had done this a million times before, and couldn’t wait to do it again. he held you close against him, breathing in deeply at the taste of your lips. he felt at peace once again, whole and complete. and as for you, you felt alive.
every atom in your body was humming in pleasure. the feeling of his hands in your body, fitting right in with your curves, were like finally finishing a puzzle. it gave you butterflies, the way he tasted and smelled. the way he kissed you was delicious. it was gentle, but passionate. his lips worked against yours quickly, his tongue sliding against yours, eliciting a small moan from your throat. your teeth bumped each other gently, causing the kiss to then become fast, needy, hot.
you pulled away before anything else could commence, your chest heaving up and down. a line of spit broke off from your lips, breaking off as the breeze ran through it.
“remember anything else now?” stefan breathed out.
“just how much i’ve missed you,” you stated.
“i’ve missed you, too, baby. wanna go and see where old home was now?”
“yes, i’d love that,” you nodded. “great. come and follow me, then we can go home and i’ll make you your favorite meal, okay?” he suggested.
“that sounds amazing.”
“i’m so glad to have you back, y/n,” he squeezed your hand.
“i’m glad to be back.”

Just a sort of canon-ish Drabble that I got a little carried away with.
Set after the events in TVD excluding the “Hell” storyline in Season 8, the miracle babies, Caroline dating Alaric, Marcel taking the serum, and a few minor changes that are hopefully recognizable.
He could feel the irritation crawl along his skin like a serpent slithering itself up and around a tree. With the irritation, came anger.
Sometimes he enjoyed the challenge that came with others riffling with his plans. He has theories as to why he does but deep down he knows the true reason. His wolf. The thrill and excitement that came with the thought of the hunt. Predators such as wolves are born hunters who thrive on such games.
But, he is not only a wolf. No, he is a strategist- a remarkable one at that. There had been no plan, no despicable machination of his that hasn’t had a fail-safe.
Except for this one.
He had gotten himself into a situation where he finally became comfortable again after nearly ten centuries of running. And when he got comfortable, he began to lose his edge.
After successfully re-stabilizing the Quarter and allowing his brother to take a leading role in the peace treaty between the factions, New Orleans fell quiet. Of course, every so often there’d be a dispute between a couple of the factions that rose a concern within his elder brother, but that was always unavoidable. Werewolves, witches, and vampires alike have fought for centuries, that type of violence and warfare doesn’t automatically stop with a peace treaty. His brother may hope for that positive outcome but Klaus had always been a realist. And, unfortunately as he predicted, the peace was temporary.
“Niklaus, this is not a situation that we should ignore.” His brother’s voice sounded through the phone that he had pressed against his right ear.
No, this isn’t something we should ignore. He thinks, tentatively keeping his lips pressed together to keep himself from speaking of something that perhaps his brother shouldn’t know.
“Should Marcel make a regretful move, this treaty we’ve formed could very well be null and void.”
If Marcel were to make a move, it may start a gruesome war between the vampires and werewolves. If Klaus knew Marcel well enough, his former right-hand man is most likely planning something rather ill-conceived. He hasn’t theorized whether the harsh consequences will weigh the heaviest on either the vampires or werewolves, or even the whole Quarter all together. No matter what they may be, he’s most certain his brother won’t be quite pleased with what he has planned.
Although Klaus once held a tight hold over the vampires, it came to his attention that Marcel continued to be respected amongst both the day and nightwalker community. Thus, why in the time of tension, they clamber to him in search of a leader to choose the decisions that will benefit them. Which is why Klaus has chosen to keep the werewolves as an ally. The werewolves have proven to be loyal to Hayley and his daughter because they both are seen as part of the pack, which unnerves Klaus but gives him the relief that those wolves will protect his daughter. The connection that Hayley holds with those werewolves is bound to be manipulated, might as well be him to do so in a beneficial way. For both the stability of New Orleans and the safety of his daughter.
“Brother, do you understand me?”
His shoes crunch against the small layer of gravel underneath his feet.
“Yes.” Klaus tries his best to keep the irritation out of his voice but his answer still sounds short.
The hybrid immediately ends the call, noting that the conversion was to be continued in person. While pocketing his phone, he takes a few steps further along the rooftop and then steps up onto the ledge, giving him a grand view of the Quarter from a few buildings away.
A rough shuffle and a few voices could be heard from a little farther down the alley below him, but he didn’t much care about the happenings within the alley. From what he could hear, there were two men speaking in hushed tones, their heartbeats slower and more quiet indicating their undead nature. The fast and erratic heartbeat that was a few paces in front of them was a clear indication to Klaus of what the vampires below were planning to do.
His lips turned up slightly. He, himself, was feeling a bit peckish, perhaps he’ll grab a quick bite before he returns home to his disapproving older brother.
The vampires eventually closed the woman in, murmuring to her about where she was going and why she was out at such a time. He found it interesting that she stayed quiet. Ninety-nine percent of the time, the women would say something whether it be a plea to let them go or an angry curse.
Wanting to stay out of the house- more like away from his brother- for as long as he can, he turned his head to look down the alleyway. If this ends to be unentertaining, he’ll most likely grab a drink at Rousseau’s.
There, he could see both the vampires crowd into the blonde woman’s space. She has her back pushed up against the rough brick.
“I don’t think it’s very safe for a lady like yourself to be out here.” The vampire states before his eyes transform and fangs replace his blunt teeth. Usually, this is when the victims begin to scream or mutter that modern saying, oh my, God. But the woman doesn’t seem as scared as a normal human would be.
“You’re making a mistake.” She murmurs and Klaus’ eyes widen a hair, recognizing the voice. But before he can think of anything else, the woman is thrusting a wooden stake into the vampire’s stomach.
The vampire doubles over and the other vampire goes to attack the human but he’s no match for Klaus’ speed. Without a second thought, Klaus appears before the vampire, shoving him back before he could get to the woman. The other vampire has now pulled the stake from his torso and was looking to kill but Klaus turned toward him.
“Enough.”
The vampire pauses but scowls at him, a look of disgust and anger apparent in his eyes. His hand rises and points to the human. “She stabbed me! She’s a tourist! Tourists are fair game-,”
“And you would be in the right if it weren’t for her being under my protection.”
The vampire looks a little surprised at Klaus’ declaration and is about to protest once more but Klaus beats him to it.
“Now, I suggest you scamper off to Marcel before I’m tempted to rid you both of your hands.”
Both vampires share a glance and Klaus continues to stand his ground confidently. Eventually, the vampires figure out that it’s probably best for them to avoid any conflict with an Original, the Original Hybrid no less. Thus, they both give the human one last threatening look before flashing away into the night.
With the vampires disappearance, Klaus had began to turn around and quip something sarcastic but his whole expression changes when Caroline’s knees give out. His hands come out at vampiric speed as he catches her by her upper arms and kneels down as he slowly lowers with her.
It’s then that he sees her clearly. Her hair isn’t as perfect as she normally used to keep it, almost like she hasn’t had access to the proper equipment. Her clothes were a little wrinkled and two small dark red dots bled through her white shirt indicating that a bandaged wound was leaking. Concern now flooded through him as his eyes connected with her face. It was as beautiful as ever but there was a deep exhaustion and a line of stress etched into her forehead. Oh how his heart now aches. He thinks that he hasn’t felt as worried for someone as he is with Hope, but yet here he is, holding her just enough so she doesn’t slump over.
He now realizes that she hadn’t just lost most of her strength, but had been keeping herself from showing any weakness towards those vampires. If he wasn’t so concerned with her health, he’d be praising her for her stubborn strength.
“Caroline, look at me, love.” He aides her by tilting her head up gently by her chin. Her eyes are tired and look so vulnerable.
She looks as if she’s about to say something but Klaus shakes his head. “Conserve your strength. You’re alright, I’ve got you.” If those words were spoken to anyone else, they’d have a right mind to be worried but she seemed to feel relieved. He takes that as permission to pick her up, holding her from underneath her legs and shoulders.
His thoughts of what his brother will think of him are completely wiped away when he races to his home. It’s quiet but he knows his brother is lurking somewhere. He’s not quite concerned about Freya, Rebekah, and Hayley’s absences. Ever since the incident between the werewolves and vampires, Hayley has taken it upon herself to help with the remaining pack. Freya is most likely working on another miracle to save this city’s peace and it’s no surprise that Rebekah is with Marcel.
Klaus contemplates taking Caroline to a guest bedroom but the closest one to his is farther than he’d like so he figures that taking her to his bedroom won’t be the worst idea. At least he’d be able to keep a close eye on her for the time being.
He sets her down gently to the dark grey covers and takes a sharp turn into the bathroom. Klaus comes back out a few moments later with a wet washcloth and a couple different sizes of bandages. Caroline shifts a little and grazes her hand against the side of her torso where the wound was which seems to instantly sober her up. She lets out a small gasp and grimaces in pain. Her hand hovers over it as if it’d take the pain away. Klaus walks back over to her and sits on the edge of the bed, a few inches separating himself from her.
Extending his hand, his eyes travel up to her face seeking silently for any sign of rejection before pulling the edge of her shirt up to reveal a blood-soaked bandage. His hands slowly peel away the bandage and Klaus didn’t know what to expect but he hadn’t expect something quite as brutal as this. No, this was not a wound from an accident, this was intentional and by someone who was trying to harm Caroline. In fact, he was quite knowledgeable about this particular wound, or had been when he was human. By the sharp angles of the shape of the wound, he could tell it had been an arrow tip that pierced her skin. When he was human, Kol had been recklessly playing with his father’s bow and accidentally shot Finn in the shoulder. He had kept that arrow shaped scar for as long as he could remember. But just because Finn had survived, it only made Klaus more concerned.
By the tear of the wound, it seems to have been reopened due to stress. Although, he imagines that it’s good news that it’s not infected. Klaus is as gentle as he possibly can be when he pays the wet washcloth along her wound. She bites her lip hard and grasps his arm in a painful grip but he allows her to do so, hoping that if a fraction of his pain can dull hers, then so be it.
After a few moments, she slowly takes her hand away and he begins to clean around the wound.
“Klaus-,”
“Don’t.” He begins, “not now.”
His words come out a tad harsher than intended but she knows he’s just concerned and doesn’t know how to healthily deal with it like a normal human.
“I need you to listen just for once.”
“Caroline, let yourself rest before we speak of anything.”
She appreciated the notion that he valued her safety and well-being more than an explanation of why she showed up in his city as a human. But this couldn’t wait, for her safety and his own.
To truly get his attention, she places her hand on top of the one that was still cleaning the blood off her skin. It pauses its movements and he looks up to her.
“I- I didn’t want to do this. I didn’t want to use you for your contacts but I didn’t have anywhere else to go.” She hesitates to continue because after she asks, his involvement becomes concrete. Because she knows that he’ll help her. “I need a witch, someone powerful. Someone who can do a cloaking spell that can’t be broken by another witch.”
His face doesn’t express as much emotion as she thought it would but she doesn’t think that it’s a bad thing. He obviously seems to be contemplating something as his eyes bore into hers.
Setting aside the washcloth, he straightens out and takes a sleek black phone out of his jacket pocket. Without hesitation, he clicks a few times on the screen and places the phone against his ear.
“Freya, I need you at the Compound immediately.” With that, he puts his phone away and reaches for a bandage. Taking the plastic off, he softly places it over her wound, pressing along the outside, securing it to her skin without causing her pain.
His eyes refocus onto hers and she spots the anger that has now manifested within those blue orbs. “Who did this?” He asks and Caroline Knew she should have known better than to think the wound wouldn’t show any foul play.
“Silas.” Klaus’ lips part in confusion. For all he knows, Silas had been put in a safe and thrown down the quarry. God, things got complicated since he’d left. Much more complicated than she would have liked.
“For a while he pretended to be Stefan. We didn’t know because we thought he could only mess with a couple people’s perspectives but turns out he’s a doppelgänger.” She mentally cringes when remembering how Silas continuously terrorized her and her friends. She also remembers how Silas had made everyone think he was dead when Stefan killed him but had used it as an out to chalk up another plan that revolved solely around revenge. Against her.
Caroline begins to pull herself up into a sitting position so she’s resting against the headboard and is thankful when Klaus helps her. “Before you came back, we thought Stefan killed Silas but he’d used some last resort spell and it gave him the perfect out to recollect himself.”
“I guess he waited for a few years for things to settle down and for us to be off our guard.Damon was as happy as he could be considering Elena, Bonnie was back, and Stefan and I were getting back on good terms. Silas approached me on the last day of my Senior year.” Klaus notices as she bites her lip and looks down at her hands that have begun to twiddle in slight nervousness. “Silas made me think we were making some kind of deal. I leave my friends behind and never go back to Mystic Falls, or he kills me and everyone I care about. I chose to leave.”
Swallowing, her eyes darted from her hands to Klaus’ face to gauge what he might have been thinking but he wasn’t showing any sign other than that he was just listening to her, allowing her to pour whatever worries she had onto him.
“I don’t know if he thought that I would just settle down in some other place to get the opportunity to know my whereabouts while he tried to kill my friends but he called negotiations off when I skipped the third town I went to. So, he went after me.” When the single tear fell from her eye, she was a little surprised at how vulnerable she was allowing herself to be. “I told everyone that I was taking off for a little bit to go travel since I had finished college. I didn’t want them to try to find me and end up as one of Silas’ next victims.”
She pauses and wipes the stray tear away, trying to recollect herself. She must look like hell, crying would only make it worse. Caroline needed to man-up. There was no doubt that what Klaus had gone through with his father, or step-father, was worse.
Klaus leans forward and takes her hand into his, letting him drop a feather-light kiss along her knuckles. “You are safe. If I ever promise you anything, I will certainly promise you that.”
Caroline can’t help the small smile that forms on her face, knowing that he is being truly genuine. His lips turn up as well.
A small knock on the door interrupts them and Klaus rises from the bed. A taller dirty blonde woman stands in the doorway, analyzing both of them. Klaus crosses the room and pulls the woman further into the hallway, speaking to her in a hushed tone.
After a moment of back and forth conversation, they both advance into the room. Klaus pauses for a minute, watching as the woman approaches the side of the bed. She offers Caroline a reassuring smile that tells her she’s most likely a friend of Klaus’ or at least someone in his good graces.
“Caroline, right? I’m the older and wiser Mikealson sibling, Freya.” Caroline blinks for a moment and looks to Klaus in confusion. Although, she assumes what the woman, Freya, is saying must be somewhat true because all Klaus does is slightly roll his eyes in such a brotherly manner before turning towards the liquor tray.
“Niklaus tells me you need a little bit of a complex cloaking spell.” Caroline nods. Being that Freya must be a Mikealson, it is always safe to walk on eggshells around the ones she’s not very familiar with, no doubt the ones that she never knew about.
Freya turns towards the hybrid who was sipping his drink. “Will you fetch my grimoire and my herb bowl from the study, brother?” Klaus doesn’t seem all too eager to be ordered around but he does as asked and walks out of the room. Freya turns back towards Caroline and motions to the space when Klaus had sat before.
“May I?”
Caroline gives her a short nod and Freya smiles.
“Why are you being so nice to me? I thought all Mikealsons were kinda bordering on the ‘I don’t help anyone but my family’ ideology.” Caroline was going to be more subtle about it but she’s injured and doesn’t feel well, might as well rip off the band-aid.
Funnily enough, Freya laughs. “I’d agree with you but I’m quite aware of who you are.”
Now, that was surprising. Did Klaus say anything about her to his siblings? It didn’t seem like something he’d do. Her mouth opened to say something but she couldn’t find her words. It seems like Freya had an idea of what she was thinking and thought to correct her.
“I saw you when I entered my brother’s mind. If it weren’t under life and death circumstances I wouldn’t have done so. Trust me, I’ve already heard a mouthful from Niklaus.”
That made Caroline even a bit more nervous. Did this woman know everything about her and Klaus then? Had she watched some of their interactions? “How much do you know?” She asks.
“Just enough to know how important you are to my brother.”
That’s not cryptic at all. Caroline isn’t sure if that means Freya knows a little too much than she should or not but she imagines that she can’t push the woman any further than she’s willing so she shuts her mouth. And she also really doubts that Klaus is out of earshot, he can probably hear almost anything from the other side of the house so it’s best not to speak out of turn. Or maybe just not too much about him.
Speak of the devil, because he then walks through the door not even a few moments afterwards, carrying a grimoire and a small bowl with a few items in it that looked close to medical supplies.
He comes up behind his sister and sets her grimoire down on the bed and intentionally hands her the bowl, making her notice the extra supplies within. A sterile needle with surgical string and a couple other medical supplies. As he hands the bowl over to her, he murmurs, “perhaps you should also take a look at her wound, sister.”
By the look in his eye, she could tell he was a bit more concerned about the girl’s physical wound than the cloaking spell being down. Then again, both siblings knew that with all of the magic surrounding the Compound, it would take a highly skilled witch at least a couple hours to work through a location spell for anyone who was there.
Freya nods and takes the bowl from him. Klaus steps back and takes a seat directly across the room from the bed in one of the leather chairs, still allowing Caroline to see him.
The witch silently asks for permission to have a closer look at Caroline’s wound before pulling the new bandage away. Caroline watches Freya’s eyebrows furrow as she inspects the wound. Freya’s eyes look back up to her.
“Have you had this looked at before?”
Caroline shakes her head lightly. “But I tried to keep it closed.” Her lips turn up into a ghost of a smile. “You only learn so much in high school and college level health classes.” Freya understands the lightheartedness within the statement and offers her a smile.
“Well, it seems like you at least kept it clean.” Freya begins. “But I’ll need to stitch it up a little and possibly do a proper cleaning just in case. It’ll probably be easy to put you to sleep for that.”
Caroline’s eyebrows furrow at the lack of a surgical syringe. “Like a witchy anesthesia?”
Freya seems to enjoy her lack of magical knowledge and find amusement in it. “Something along those lines.”
“You’ve done it before, right?”
The witch lets out a small laugh. “Yes, but I can certainly do a demonstration.” Her head turns over her shoulder towards her younger brother but Klaus seems unimpressed.
It was a little reassuring seeing him naturally take up his brotherly role. She hadn’t ever really seen that side of him and never saw him actually interact with his siblings before. It was nice to know that even the Original Hybrid could act like a typical brother once in a great while.
“I promise it’s safe and when you wake, your wound will be patched right up.” Freya reassures and Caroline nods. She knows that Klaus will go just about as far as he possibly can to keep her safe which tells her that Freya is trustworthy. So, she doesn’t think about it too long before she murmurs, “okay.”
———————————————-
Upon breaking the fog of sleep, she doesn’t feel as weak as she had before Freya had put her to sleep which was a good sign. She begins to lift her head off the pillow and suddenly feels a warm hand help her sit up.
Looking over, she sees Klaus hovering beside her. “Easy, love. No need to tear your new sutures.”
His words remind her and she looks down, pulling her shirt up and the bandage aside to see her wound stitched up neatly with a strange light paste spread on top.
“My sister assured me that her little remedy,” he nods towards the paste on her wound, “should have healed you just enough to allow you to shower, if you wish to do so.”
The thought of a steaming hot shower is so appealing to her right now. “God, yes.” She sighs. It’s been so long since she’d been in any type of shower that wasn’t in a hotel or had some sort of modern day technology.
It seems Klaus enjoys her enthusiasm and takes it as a good sign for her health. “Would you like me to fetch my sister to help you?”
Caroline shakes her head. “No, it’s okay. I’m okay.” She silently thinks that should anything happen, he’ll most likely be listening in on her. It was a little creepy to think about but also made her feel a tad safer knowing that he’d always make sure she was safe.
He respects her choice and helps her stand. Waiting a moment to make sure she gets her bearings, he keeps a hand on the small of her back and leads her towards the entrance of the bathroom. She silently thanks him before he closes the door to a crack after her.
Looking around the bathroom, she’s not surprised about how lavish it is and how neat it’s kept. She never really took Klaus as the person who kept his personal space in disarray. As clean as it was, it still held the feeling of being used daily. One of the medicine cabinets was left cracked open a little, a small tin and classic shaving knife was left on top of a white cloth, and a bottle of cologne sat on the counter. If Caroline had possibly thought of a bathroom Klaus would ever call his, this is probably as close to it as she’d get.
Caroline decides that if she takes too long, Klaus may think something is wrong so she strips quickly and turns the water on. She’s pleased when it takes a whole couple seconds for the water to warm. Stepping into the shower, she sighs at how good it feels. The water runs down her, rinsing away all of the dirt and grime from the past couple days.
After getting her hair wet, she reads the minimalist labels on the three bottles that sat on the shower shelf. Thank God they weren’t the typical soaps that guys used nowadays. She shivers at the thought of two-in-one products. These were just simply packaged products that were obviously a little more on the manlier side of things but it’ll have to do.
Rubbing the shampoo and conditioner in her curls, she almost felt a weight lift off of her. Once she finished up basking in the warmth of the shower, she turned the dial off and stepped out. Grabbing the white towel, she wraps it around herself and tries to dry up as much as she can.
Upon walking back over to the bathroom counter she notices that she can’t exactly wear her old clothes but she does choose to wear her bra and underwear again. Hopefully she can ask Klaus to rile her up something for her to wear.
When she exits the bathroom, she immediately notices that the French doors that had led to the balcony outside were now closed with the drapes shut and the sliding door to the bedroom was almost shut all the way. She could hear a little movement in the next room over and assumed it was Klaus.
Stepping further into the bedroom, she sees that she doesn’t even need to ask Klaus for clothes because there’s a pair of yoga pants and t-shirt folded neatly on the bed. It was also accompanied with a hairbrush. Her heart warms at the thoughtfulness but then again, Klaus had always put thought behind a lot of things that involved her.
She’s quick to take the precious privacy that he allowed her and got dressed.
He finally emerged when she was finishing up brushing her hair. He held a plate of food and a glass of water. Caroline places the hairbrush down and into the drawer of the nightstand before scooting herself further back on the bed to give him enough space. Klaus sits down on the edge of the bed and places the glass of water on the nightstand, then handing Caroline the plate. At the sight of the scrambled eggs, bacon, and assortment of fruit on the plate, she was almost worried her stomach would growl. She doesn’t even remember when she last had a proper meal.
“Thank you.” She murmurs when he hands her a clean fork.
His smile is genuine and tells her that he doesn’t find helping her to be a chore. When he watches her carefully as she began to eat, she knew that if he’d done so a few years back she’d find it extremely creepy, but now she’s come to find out that it’s his way of communicating his reassurance. He’s silently telling her that he’s here, he’s going to protect her.
“I’ll leave you to eat. Perhaps get a few more hours of sleep, it’s only a quarter after six.” He states as he rises from the bed. His eyes drift for a moment down to her torso where her wound is covered by her shirt. Something in his eyes changes and he leans down close to her head. She pauses as his lips softly connect with her forehead. He pulls back a little and looks deep into her eyes.
“So long as I have a say in the matter, Silas will never get close enough to touch you again.” He then rises to his full length and exits the room.
——————————————
After eating and getting a couple more hours of sleep she’d ventured out of Klaus bedroom to find him again. When she did he was insistent about getting her at least a week’s worth of clothing for herself. She didn’t make a second objection, knowing that either way Klaus will get her clothing, it was just a matter of if she’d pick it out or have some compelled vampire do it. Thus he’d taken her to a few local shops. In typical guy fashion, Klaus hadn’t been too animated about watching her pick clothing out. In most of the stores, they’d parted ways- her towards anything that caught her eye and him to any empty seat he could find.
Caroline tried to be as time efficient as possible knowing that even a man who has waited a thousand years to break his curse, he still had his limits of patience. As much as she thought he dreaded chaperoning her, because he refused to have a possibility of another vampire thinking they could harm her, he still offered her considerate smiles. There were a few instances where she could feel the heat of his gaze as she walked out of the dressing room. She didn’t know what to make of it and brushed it aside.
This is hopefully the first and last time Caroline thinks this, but she is thankful that Klaus has the ability to compel vampires. He had a vampire, she forgot her name, retrieved Caroline’s brand new clothes and took them to the Compound so they could continue to stroll down a few of the streets.
If Caroline hadn’t spent the last couple years skipping from city to city, she thinks she may have been a little more amazed at the New Orleans architecture. But still, it was truly stunning. She liked that Klaus didn’t directly guide her but just allowed her to wander. Soon, they’d found themselves in a bar. The bartender that approached them seemed very familiar with Klaus and when he’d introduced her to Camille, the woman was welcoming.
It didn’t escape her notice how Camille had laid eyes on Klaus for a few seconds too long before walking off to let her and Klaus enjoy their drinks.
Caroline smiles a little at the situation. “You know, she likes you.”
His lips turn up and he sips his whiskey.
“You may not be aware of this, Caroline, but you are on the exceedingly short list of women who have rejected me.” His head turns towards her with a smug smirk. “You should feel lucky, most of those women are dead.”
Caroline rolls her eyes lightheartedly. “So lucky.” She breathes and looks away from him. His chuckle is rich and deep, making her crack a small smile.
“Quite a number of women find me charming, you surely had at one time.”
The statement brings out an instinct in her to say something snarky or quip something a little harsh but she chooses not to. Instead, her teeth catch her bottom lip as she lowers her gaze to the vodka soda. She doesn’t exactly know what to do. All she’s ever done with him was constantly impolitely reject him with statements about who he killed or what bad things he’s done.
Her eyes go up to see the bartender come out from the kitchen in the back. The girl gives them a small glance and Caroline offers her a friendly smile. Camille seems a little surprised by Caroline’s friendliness, almost as if she was expected to be ignored or brushed off. Caroline has no doubt that the crowd that Klaus would spend time with would be most certainly supernatural, thus their lack of interest in simple human servers. Although, Klaus seemed a little keen of her. Truthfully, she didn’t know what to think about it. If it was a few years ago, she would have rather drowned before admitting that she was a tad jealous when it came to Klaus, but she was older and more mature. So, yeah. Maybe she felt a little jealous that the girl’s feelings towards Klaus could be mutual. But she also wasn’t going to be spiteful of it.
Stirring the small straw that floated in her untouched drink, she murmurs, “If you want to go talk to her, there’s nothing stopping you.” Her voice is as neutral as she can make it.
Even now without her vampire senses, she could still feel his fiery gaze in the side of her head. He lets out a low chuckle.
“Camille is a close friend of my family. She’s sacrificed quite a bit to aid my family’s survival and I’ve repaid her loyalty with protection.” He begins. “Our relationship may have developed into somewhat of a complicated friendship since she’s known me, but that is simply it.”
Caroline turns her head towards him and his eyes are as clear blue as ever. “But by no means do I wish to be in anyone else’s company other than yours.”
There’s a brief moment between them where both of their solid barriers were dissolved and their eyes just simply met. They said nothing but their eyes communicated plenty. But, that moment was only brief.
The bell over the door to the bar chimes when it opens, the noise from the street could be heard for a moment before the door closes again. Both Klaus and Caroline are shaken out of their moment when a voice chimes.
“Now, this is interesting.”
Caroline is a little taken aback even though she should have expected to come across another Original. Hell, she wouldn’t doubt that the whole Mikealson clan was crawling around New Orleans at this point. It seemed to be almost like a hub for them.
Klaus is the first to turn in his seat and greet his sister. “Sister, a bit of a surprise to see you on this side of the river. Has Marcel finally bored you enough?” His tone has dramatically changed from the genuine one before to something more smartass-y.
When Caroline scoots on her stool a little to look more properly at the female Original, she notices how annoyed Rebekah gets because of Klaus’ comment.
“No, I came to visit my niece. Whom, in which, has noticed your lack of presence.” Rebekah then gives Caroline a disapproving glare. “But I think I know why.”
Klaus sighs quietly and Rebekah is about to say something but pauses. Her eyes scan Caroline carefully. After a moment, her eyes widen and she flashes towards Caroline, aggressively yelling, “who the bloody hell gave you the cure!?”
Caroline stumbles out of her stool as fast as she can and takes a few steps back. Rebekah is about to get into her face again but Klaus zips in front of her, blocking her way to Caroline.
“I-,” Caroline doesn’t know what to say or how to even start to calm down the Original. She’s not as strong as she once was. One little neck snap and she’ll be done.
“Rebekah.” Klaus growls in warning, earning a glare from his sister before her gaze goes back to the blonde.
“Why do you get the choice? You, of all people?”
Caroline is beyond grateful that no one else was in the bar because she’s sure that there could have been a bloodbath if there were.
Klaus is about to say something but Rebekah beats him to it.
“How is it that you get to have a normal life?”
Those words seemed to trigger something in Caroline. Something emotional.
“You think I want this? Do you think I chose to have a normal life where I’d meet some regular guy, marry him, have a few kids, and work for the rest of my life?” Rebekah frowns and Klaus turns his head just enough to look at her. “I didn’t. I don’t want that life and I didn’t choose to become human again. So, blame me all you want for being a bitch to you or whatever, but don’t blame me because you didn’t get the human life you’ve always wanted.”
It seems like Caroline’s words have an effect on Rebekah because she shrugs her brother’s hand away from her and takes a step back. Caroline can’t exactly know for sure but she thinks that maybe Rebekah can somewhat relate to her. Rebekah had always wanted to be human but was stuck as a vampire. Now, Caroline wants to be a vampire but is stuck as a human.
When Rebekah takes that step back and Klaus is sure she’s not going to try to attack Caroline again, he fully turns his body towards the blonde human. She can’t gauge exactly what he’s thinking but it could have been a cross between surprise and sympathy.
The younger Original looks almost a little guilty when she casts a glance towards Caroline but instead doesn’t say anything before flashing away. As the light breeze wafts over them from Rebekah’s exit, Klaus takes a step forward towards her.
“Caroline.”
She shakes her head. “I-,” her eyes shut for a moment. “Please don’t make me talk about it.”
She fully expects Klaus to struggle with her request but he quickly proves her wrong and gives her a short nod in understanding.
————————
Caroline’s fingers drum silently against the cold metal of the railing she’s stood behind. The city has now been cascaded in darkness but people still mull about on the street beneath her. The very idea of the liveliness of this city brings a smile to her face. The neon lights of shops and street lamps were now lit up to shine down on the passerbyers below, their drunken ramblings slightly muffled due to her human hearing.
She finds that Klaus was right. There was something about this city that not only attracted the party-seeking humans, but also the darker creatures who lurked in the shadows. She may not be a vampire any longer but that doesn’t mean the connection she holds with the darkness was shaken. There is not just history in this city, it is the home of the supernatural. Caroline bets that if she were still a vampire, she could have spotted a couple dozen supernaturals that had walked by in the past thirty minutes she's been up on Klaus’ balcony.
She only hopes it doesn’t attract a different kind of supernatural.
Out of the corner of her eye, she can sense movement just as a figure joins her. Their hand grasps the railing casually and when they sigh, a white cloud escapes their lips from the continuing dropping temperature of the night. He doesn’t attempt to make a move to slide closer to her and she appreciates the space he’s giving her, along with the time of silence.
As they stood in silence, listening to the noises of the city before them, she could recall how nervous she used to get during long periods of silence. She had always tried to fill them up with mindless chatter or something to that nature. But now? She finds that she sort of enjoys it. His presence may be a little nerve-wracking at times of tension but, as of late, Caroline seems to feel at ease knowing he’s just right there- not totally offering her comfort but the reassurance of his presence.
“You’re cold.” His voice murmurs smoothly through the air. It’s only then that she notices the goosebumps that trek along her arms. The light breeze flows around them once more, reminding Caroline that she doesn’t have as much tolerance to the weather as she once had when she was a vampire.
Her eyes lifted towards him to watch as he slid the casual high-collared blazer off just to then gently place it over her shoulders. Caroline’s arms cross and grasp the sides of the coat, pulling it closer to her body before offering him a smile in thanks. Although his eyes seemed to be light, there was a hint of concern to be seen.
“Caroline, what aren’t you telling me?”
The words surprise her, not because he’s asking them, but because he’s asking them now. She should have felt lucky that he hadn’t asked her earlier or even within the first ten minutes she was in New Orleans.
A lot. She thinks.
When she doesn’t speak, he sighs and shifts closer to her.
“You should be aware that I will do everything in my power to keep you safe, but I can’t very well do it if I don’t know any of the details.” He pauses for a moment before continuing. “I understand that these past few years haven’t been as undemanding as you’ve hoped, but you need to tell me something- anything- so that I can help you.”
Caroline contemplates just shrugging it off and telling him there’s nothing to talk about but that would be a lie. A big lie. She came to him for help, slept in his bed, and ate his food. It would have been foolish of her to think that she could take full advantage of his protection and not have to give him a detailed explanation. But, she doesn’t know exactly how to start and how to proceed. There are specifics that he doesn’t want him to know about, but if she were to leave them out, she’s sure that he is intelligent enough to put a few pieces together, or at least tell that she’s leaving a few key details out. She had two options. Either she tells the truth or she omits, telling him that she doesn’t have the courage to give him an explanation. The last option would be the easier route, but one that would most likely drive a wedge between them, thus possibly compromising their safety.
If she were younger, she would have grappled for a third option. But she was older and more mature now. Even though the prospect of what Klaus may think of her afterwards held a sizable weight over her head, she knew that she couldn’t avoid telling Klaus the truth.
“Silas isn’t just chasing me because I helped in the plan to kill him.” She breathes.
Klaus’ eyes blink in surprise, as if he’s shocked that she’s actually opening up to him. But he allows her to continue.
“When you came back to Mystic Falls, I didn’t tell you the whole truth about what happened with Silas. When Stefan lured Silas outside, I was left alone on the far side of the boarding house. Someone had grabbed me and I acted on instinct because I knew Damon, Elena, and Qetsiyah were in the parlor, so I assumed it was Silas.” Caroline looks away from the Original and out towards the night sky. “It turned out to be Amara.” Her eyes slowly drifted back over to him to gauge his reaction. He stood still, eyes just taking her in and processing the information that she was offering him.
“Silas’ one true love.” Her eyes hold guilt and a sadness within them as she remembers the events that occurred nearly five years ago. “She was innocent and I killed her.”
A stray tear begins to form in her eye and bubbles over, making a thin wet trail down her cheek. Klaus’ hand doesn’t move as fast as it normally does when he gently wipes the tear from her face, making sure not to make any moves that she wouldn’t be able to reject. The heat of his palm against her jaw and the pressure it holds gives her an odd sense of comfort that she wouldn’t have expected.
“I don’t know how he found out after he faked his death, but he-,” she begins to struggle to speak, the emotions beginning to take advantage of her. “He approached me in my dorm one day and I’m not sure if he planned it or not, but Tyler happened to walk in.”
Caroline lets out a small exhale to try to keep her emotions slightly underwraps but she can’t help the couple tears that escape her eyes. Turning her head away, she feels a shade of guilt run through her. “He- he killed Tyler right in front of me.” She also tried to explain how after Silas left her with his ultimatum, she had to find a place to bury Tyler and come up with a story for his absence, but she thinks she would have totally broken down if she spoke another word. It didn’t take much longer than a couple seconds before his arms had brought her closer to him and she didn’t shy away from pushing her head into his shoulder and wrapping her arms around his torso.
The heat radiating off of him almost felt like it began to wrap around her, comforting her in her grief. Klaus kept one arm around her back and another in the hair on the back of her head. His head craned down and he gently pressed his lips to her temple. He doesn’t say anything, but he doesn’t have to. She feels the most safe she has ever felt in the past two years in his arms. The sandalwood cologne fills her lungs when her nose digs deeply into his shirt, surely ruining it with her tears but she's not too worried about that right now.
After a few long moments of being wrapped up in his body, he halts the slow brushing of her hair that she had just noticed he was doing. Klaus’ head pulls away to get a better look at her and she tilts her head up to do the same.
“Come. Let’s get you inside.”
Caroline nods and lets Klaus guide her back into his bedroom. He shuts the French doors behind him and closes the cream drapes, the sounds of the city now greatly muffled by the extra barrier. Caroline walks over to the bed. Once she’s sat down, Klaus is already over by the fireplace and starting the fire. She tries to catch her breath. Although she wasn’t sobbing, she still finds it hard to regain herself. A crackle comes from the fireplace and when Klaus stands from his crouched position, she can see the small flames of the fire begin to lick at the wood inside. In no time, Klaus is right there, taking the coat from her shoulders and silently encouraging her to lay down on the bed. She pulls the soft covers over herself as Klaus’ eyes rove over her.
“Will you stay?” The words escape her lips before she can understand what she had said.
Klaus studies her for a moment but his attention is pulled towards the sliding doors that are cracked open just enough for him to see his brother. His brother’s presence now reminds him of the factions meeting they were supposed to attend tonight in light of the recent events between the witches, werewolves, and vampires, but Caroline is in a sensitive emotional position. Although he finds it surprising for her to feel comforted by him, he doesn’t feel as inadequate for the job as he would with anyone else. He decides then what he will do. New Orleans can wait. If anything, his brother is more than equipped with handling tonight’s meeting without him.
His head turns back towards Caroline. The deep blue of his eyes already indicate his answer to her and she slides to the other side of the bed to give him room. Klaus toes off his boots and just before he lays down, his eyes glance up to see the sliding door closing all the way and his brother’s footsteps retreating away.
When he’s settled onto his back, Caroline quickly tucks into his side. The move isn’t unexpected with her trying to seek a source of comfort. He slowly pulls his arm out from under her and instead wraps it around her body, placing his hand just above her hip as she buries herself into his ribcage.
Klaus lays there for a while, listening to the changes in her heart beat and studying the way it slows when she falls asleep. He only allows himself to shut his eyes when he hears his brother return an hour later, feeling more comfortable being asleep when at least one other Original is awake. He won’t take any chances with Caroline. He won’t risk losing her.
-------------------------------------------------
When Caroline wakes up that next morning, she isn’t shocked that she’s alone and the place where he had once been was vacant of his body heat. She never assumed Klaus to be the type of man to sleep in by any means being as paranoid as he usually was but it had seemed like he’d been gone for quite a while. As much as she wants to think that maybe he had some weird bout of inspiration to paint or do whatever artistic thing he prided himself with, she has the better judgement to know it was business related.
From what she could tell, he and his brother were the main one’s calling the shots in the French Quarter. Not unexpected, considering Klaus is, well, Klaus. But he has subtly mentioned from time to time whilst they were out yesterday that there was some tension between a few of the supernatural factions. Caroline imagines that it's more of a regular occurrence and something that comes with ‘ruling’ (Klaus’ words, not her’s) over the supernatural community within New Orleans. Thus, it doesn’t take a genius to understand Klaus must have a decent amount of business to conduct most of the time. She wouldn’t be all too surprised if he was out handing threats out like flyers first thing in the morning.
The mere idea that Klaus has probably been awake for at least a couple hours now prompted her to get motivated for the day. Although she didn’t directly have any plans other than possibly not getting her throat ripped out by Rebekah, she still needed to eat.
It didn’t take her long to get dressed and make her way out of Klaus’ bedroom. But when she made it to the hallway outside of Klaus’ study, she was a little torn on what she should do next. Klaus hadn’t exactly shown her around the Compound so she really only knows the way in and out of the Compound from his living quarters.
There were a few doors on each side of the hallway. She chose the route she was more familiar with and decided to start there. Fearing that she might be interfering in his family’s privacy, she only ventured into the rooms that were already open. She first found a parlor room with dark red couches and a small wet bar, next she found a very extensive library where she read a few of the titles of the books. Some were familiar and some were totally unknown to her, but she imagined that she wouldn’t know any books that were written in other languages like the French one she decided to flip open. After finding a few first editions, she thought it best to move on and keep her human, clumsy hands away from books that could be worth more than a couple thousand dollars. When exiting the library and finding the courtyard, she climbed down the stairs and got lucky when she found the kitchen.
Walking over to the fridge, she crosses her fingers that she doesn’t just see blood bags. Upon opening the fridge, she’s satisfied to find a tray of eggs, milk carton, a drawer dedicated to fruits and vegetables, a couple bottles of water, some condiments in the door slots, and a couple other assorted food items that were relatively healthy. She would do just about anything right now to satisfy her sweet tooth that she woke up with but she’s also grateful that the Mikealson’s even have food in general, so she’ll take what she can get. So, Caroline takes the grape jelly out of the door slot and then goes to search for bread. Surely if they had food in the fridge, they had to have some non-refrigerated items too, right?
Looking through a couple of the cabinets, she mentally notes which cabinet held the plates, glassware, coffee grounds, and such. She finally finds the bread and limits herself to two slices. She may be hungry but she’s also human.
Grabbing a plate and spotting the toaster conveniently placed on the counter next to the coffee machine, she places the slices of bread inside.
In that moment, she thinks of the simple weekday mornings just before school. Those so easy and simple times where she had convinced herself could be the worst for her. How wrong she was. Now, she misses those mornings where all she had to worry about was boys and if she was going to pass that week’s pop quiz. In fact, she can even say she misses the times where the worst that could happen was an unexpected visit from a particularly moody Original hybrid in which had a 50/50 percent chance of ending with a pair of toxic hybrid teeth in someone’s throat.
Now, Caroline realizes that Klaus must have either grown to enjoy watching her and her friend’s failed attempts to end his life or preferred to use ‘kid-gloves’ because if he were to kill any of her friends, he knew better than to think she’d ever forgive him. Either way, she feels somewhat lucky in an odd way that he hadn’t reacted as badly as she now knew he could have. Unlike Klaus, Silas had no attraction or reason to extend any amount of mercy towards her, which was extremely terrifying. Silas may be mortal now but he is also a very powerful witch. One that was able to keep up with her when she was still a vampire.
The ding of the toaster brings her out of her reverie. Caroline reaches into the toaster to carefully pull the slice of bread out. The front of her finger grazes the hot metal inside and she pulls it out as quickly as she can on instinct. “Damnit!” She whispers heatedly, knowing there were other vampires within the house. In the process of taking a step back as the pain still sizzles underneath her skin, she could see something in her peripheral vision. Turning her head quickly, she yelps.
“Shit!” She curses, jumping slightly in her own skin when she finds an unexpected figure in the entranceway of the kitchen.
A smirk graces his features and a deep chuckle escapes his lips.
“God, you can’t do that. I can’t exactly sense when you’re creepily stalking me anymore.”
He doesn’t respond but she thinks he gets the point. Klaus walks over to her and easily deposits both slices of toast onto the plate she had out. Fishing out a butter knife from one of the drawers and opening the lid to the jam.
“I’d like to take you somewhere.” His eyes glance over to her as she watches him spread the jam over the slices of toast before placing the used knife into the stainless steel sink. He then slides the plate closer to her and walks back over to the fridge to put the jar of jam away.
Caroline takes the plate and takes a couple steps over to the island counter where a couple stools sat. She sits and takes a bite out of her toast. “Now?”
“As soon as you are ready.” He then grins at her, clearly hiding something from her. “Although, I recommend you wear something you don’t mind getting dirty.”
----------------------------
They’ve been in the car maybe five minutes before Caroline began to question him on where he was taking her.
“Seriously?”
His eyebrow rises and he glances towards her with lighthearted eyes that tell her he was certainly enjoying her irritation. Caroline just resorts to glaring at him but it doesn't hold nearly the same weight that it had a few years ago when she’d glare at him then and he clearly knows it. Klaus’ eyes return to the road and Caroline sighs, settling further into the leather seat of his luxury SUV.
“If you can’t tell me where we’re going, can you at least tell me something?” She asks, thinking that maybe he would want to play the ‘hint game.’
A sly smirk puts the edge of his lips up. Instead of giving into her, he decides to veer off into a different topic altogether.
“Do you recall the period of time when Alaric helped train the doppelganger in the ridiculous hope that it would somehow keep her safe from my siblings and myself?”
Caroline is a little taken aback by his question. Obviously, she remembers. Elena had once tried to get her to join her and Alaric. What surprised her about it though was that he even knew about it in the first place because Elena had thought they’d kept it all ‘hush hush’ specifically so he wouldn’t find out. Although, Caroline now thinks that he would most likely know from pulling the information out of Tyler or having a hybrid tail them once in a while. Both scenarios are equally as realistic.
The Land Rover slows and turns down a dirt path that is cascaded with tall trees. Clearly, he was taking her somewhere in the countryside.
“Yeah, but I don’t see how that’s relevant unless you plan to drag me out into the middle of the woods and kill me.” She turns her head to look at him. “Because I will put up one hell of a fight.”
His chuckle is low but not in a dark way. The blue in his eyes gets a little brighter when he parks the car at the edge of a large clearing. There’s a few fallen logs and if Caroline squints just enough, she can make out the shape of a couple makeshift tents a couple hundred yards away. She feels the Original turn towards her after shutting the car off and she looks his way.
“Trust me, sweetheart, if I were to make you my victim, I wouldn’t need to take you to the Bayou.” The tone in his voice is as casual as if he were talking about dinner plans and the smile he dotes is edging on the side of diabolical.
She raises a brow and turns away from him as she opens the passenger side door. “Because that makes me feel reassured.” Caroline knows his lips tug higher up into his cheeks, enjoying her slight sarcasm and their back-and-forth banter. Sometimes she thinks he likes making her angry, she can’t really think of a reason why, but he seems to always draw that emotion out of her at times when he doesn’t really have to.
Upon getting out, she notices he rounds the back of the car and opens the tailgate. Klaus pulls two objects out and closes the tailgate before meeting her a few paces away from the black vehicle. Her eyes widen a hair and her eyebrows rise dramatically when she sees what he took out for the back of his SUV.
He holds two long medieval looking swords, one in each hand. Stepping up to her, he readjusts his grip on one of the swords and holds it by the blade, offering it to her by the leather wrapped handle. She physically hesitates, clearly confused about what his end goal was.
Klaus seems amused by her reaction and tips his head to the side.
“Go on, it won’t bite you.”
Her eyes shift from the sword in his hands and his eyes. Slowly, she grasps the handle of the sword and Klaus lets go. Caroline struggles for a moment, the sword being heavier than she had anticipated. Not knowing what to do with it, she lets the end of it sit on the ground.
On the other hand, Klaus holds his sword by the handle and holds it out diagonally in the air.
“Strike it.” He orders.
Caroline does nothing except look at him strangely before rolling her eyes. “Seriously? You brought me out here for your own amusement? Newsflash, I’m not exactly some minion you can drag out to weird places and play ‘swords’ with.”
Klaus sighs and lowers the sword down, expertly thrusting the point into the grassy ground.
“This is no game, love. As much as I’d like to be showing you my city, I have a vested interest in your safety and to keep you protected. From what I have come to realize within the past years in residing in New Orleans, I can’t be in multiple places at once. Thus, why we are here.” His empty hand motions along as he speaks and his eyes glance around the clearing at it’s mention. “I’d like to be able to say that I will be by your side at all times, but that would simply be false. Which is why I think it is pertinent and rather of astronomically great import that you have some ability to defend yourself.”
Caroline glances down at the sword in his hand. “With a sword?” She asks with a stifled laugh, almost amused by the thought of using a sword in an actual realistic fight.
“No, but it gives you a starting place and the ability to learn how to use spare objects as weapons.”
Klaus then raises the sword again and nods. “Now, strike it.”

So long time no see huh?
I just wanna say that I never thought that anybody would acknowledge my input in a million years. No one in my friend group really watched either tvd or to, so this blog is the first time I’ve ever let this out, and the fact that there were people that actually liked what I said meant so much to me I can’t even describe.
Onto why I haven’t posted in a while, that’s just my slow brain. With work and family, my brain likes to fixate on something related to writing and I become obsessed for a while. What started to grind on me was the amount I was putting out versus everything else I had to do in my life, so I decided to take a little break in which time I relearned my love of drawing, but I digress.
I still wanna post on here and plan to do so (maybe some actual tvd analysis idk), but it’s not gonna be as frequently as it was last month. That being said, I still adore each and every one of y’all especially those interacting with me and would still be honored to answer any asks I get the privilege of receiving.
With that introduction out of the way, I’ve decided to talk about some characters rather than another ship (mostly because I’ve already tackled the big ones as far as to is concerned), and these characters are none other than Matt Donovan and Jackson Kenner!
Finally talking directly about the vampire diaries (yay)! Confession: I don’t like Matt. Here’s the thing, the show tries to position him as the “nice guy” of mystic falls. This worked because they place him next to the other male characters (all problematic) during season one. I mean, there’s Damon (narcissistic psychopath), Stefan (recovering addict and vampire), Tyler (abusive bully), and Jeremy (temperamental and moody addict). When we look at Matt next to these guys of course we’d be forgiven for thinking he’s a good person, but what happens when he’s placed next to humans that are considered good individuals?
First example, Caroline! Disclaimer: if you are the kind of person who thinks Caroline was a horrible character until she became a vampire and basically like to tone police her for being an alpha female with completely human flaws that made her such a relatable character (not for me specifically, but even I could notice how real she felt), you’re wrong. I’m not gonna get mad at you, I’m just asking you to take a good look at what you consider a “good female character” and ask yourself what that says about you. That being said, as much as I love Caroline’s characterization in season one, I don’t like how the writers just made her story being a victim the entire time. The most obvious case of this was with Damon, which I know might take y’all a second because Damon fans love to sweep his season one actions under the rug just like the writers. What Damon did to Caroline was disturbing and made me uncomfortable (and they say Klaus compelling Cami was the first time compulsion was broken down with how messed up it could be). The worst part is seeing other characters be aware of this and doing nothing to help her, but this isn’t about Damon. That was the first half of the season, the second half shows a potential ship of Matt and Caroline which was…yikes.
I don’t wanna assume the worst, but I do find it rather clever in a sick way how the writers placed Caroline in a physically abusive relationship with Damon only to place her into an emotionally abusive relationship, so we’re too busy comparing Matt to Damon that we miss how Matt would stand on his own (but that’s just a theory). I know this was season one, but after rewatching a fiftieth time, I can’t help but notice how much Matt belittles her (ex. calls her crazy in a diagnosis kind of way instead of joking), this doesn’t even get into the Elena situation. I do respect him flat out telling Caroline that he’s not over Elena, but there’s that and reminiscing about his relationship with her in front of Caroline and Stefan! And they show Caroline so upset by it and Matt doesn’t even care, but he can’t do anything wrong! Seriously, looking back every argument always ends with Caroline being completely in the wrong and needing to apologize while Matt doesn’t have to do anything. Matt treated her like she was second best, something we knew from the pilot was a big insecurity for her. Why is this ignored?
Second reason: he’s so controlling. Like, it’s not just the writers and the characters singing his praises, he does it to himself. He can hate vampires, but it’s the fact he goes around saying “man, it’s hard being the only nice guy in this town, I have to be the moral center while all of my friends make horrible decisions which I will repeatedly tell them because I’m so smart and know what’s best for them. Man, it’s so hard being me.” This Matt challenges Damon for most insufferable character on screen. Best example is in season three when he drugs Elena and drives her out of town because it’s what’s “best for her” (okay dude). Again, I get he hates vampires, but so does Bonnie, yet despite this she still respects her friends choices because she understands it’s their lives (also I hate that every time Bonnie does get judge mental of her friends the show treats it like she’s being unreasonable and a bad friend, but Matt’s like that the whole time and it’s waved off as “he’s just being a concerned friend”).
Lastly is something everyone already talks about, when he’s not being incredibly toxic he’s so boring. Like, I understand that’s the point in a way, he’s the human, but after seeing how well they integrated Cami into the story in the originals despite her being human that excuse lost all weight for me. He does nothing but complain! If you’re not gonna do anything interesting with him, get him off screen (the later seasons are boring enough! I mean what?)! What really concerns me about Matt as a character is if he is what the writers genuinely believed was the perfect example of a “good guy.” The worst part is it worked! Technically, Matt is the best guy in the tvd cast by default and calling him out for being a toxic human is only a recent trend. Conclusion, Matt Donovan is trash and we deserved better male characters in tvd.
Now, if you think I’m stopping there you’d be wrong. Matt really is a bad person and character, and what kills me is how the community likes to compare the tvd mains to characters in to. Ex. Hayley is Elena (kind of accurate, but at least Hayley had her own story separate from the men in her life in season one) and Bonnie is Davina (I mean, they both do get screwed over by the writers, but I’d argue Bonnie is closer to Vincent since the pain they endure throughout the seasons is much more personal and vindictive). Lastly, and most frustratingly, Cami is said to be the originals equivalent to Matt because they’re both human. At least, I think that’s the reason because I have no idea why else people would say that (is it because in their deluded minds Cami is boring despite being so much fun for reasons I’ve already explained in another post?). So you’re probably thinking who do I think resembles Matt more if anyone? Who could it be? Or maybe I already spoiled it.
So…Jackson Kenner. It’s not a perfect comparison (Jackson has an active story in the show that plays a significant part in seasons one and two). However, in terms of personality they have the most in common. If it’s not clear from what I said about Matt, I don’t like Jackson either. I find him to be an insufferable hypocrite who always talks about keeping the peace yet is quick to start beef with the vampires (who are always portrayed as being the perpetrators and werewolves the victims and showing the conflict as black and white instead of gray on both sides, but I might be the only one who has a problem with how the werewolves treat the vampires in both shows). That’s in season one! Then there’s his controlling behavior towards Hayley and trying to get her to leave the Mikaelsons just cause he can’t be big alpha male next to Klaus (disclaimer: as much as I think Hayley is wrong for trying to abandon the Mikaelsons for good, I did stand with her on getting away from and daggering Klaus for a temporary amount of time. Complex discussion for another day). Then there’s season three where he gets so angry cause Hayley chooses to help find Rebekah (y’know the woman who protected Hope for months!) that he storms off to the Bayou and ignores his wife and insists she must choose between the wolves and the Mikaelsons (keep in mind Elijah never insists she has to choose a side and always refers to both as her family). This is a grown man by the way. I mean, at least the show doesn’t make Hayley bend to his will like season two (progress I guess?). So controlling, egotistical, hypocritical, and the show treats him like he’s the messiah of men because everyone around him are the worst (except Marcel). Sounds like a Matt clone to me.
Why are these two considered the prime example of how men should be by the writers? If it isn’t clear, just because they aren’t killing people every five minutes does not make them good! That could’ve been a decent message if it was noticed by people, but instead we hear how great Matt and Jackson are when they are the most relatable (in a bad way) kind of men in the show. That’s another problem, why are all the men in this show such toxic individuals to be around. The closest exceptions are Stefan and Marcel who personality wise are good, but are killers. Matt could have been what the writers wanted, but what we got was disappointing and annoying. So the women are butchered shells and the men are toxic, so I’m not allowed to like anyone!

not gonna lie I would love to hear more about the drama and infighting that went on in The Vampire Diaries fandom if you have the time (and also want to use that time to give your experience with the fandom, which from the snippets you've told sounds Not Fun so I get it if you don't want to lol)
oh god, there was like, SO MUCH, i just
i really feel like tvd is one of those fandoms that is so hard to describe without a lot of ‘you’d have to have been there’, but it really felt like this huge and all-consuming beast for about five years until the show finally imploded and the fandom basically turned on it en masse. (you ever see that post going around that’s like ‘if you ever want to know what true regret feels like, ask someone who once called tvd their favorite show’? still a mood, all these years later. basically the entire fandom thought the show should have just bowed out with whatever shreds of dignity it had left at the end of season 6, and became more of a hatedom than a fandom for the last two seasons. when you have an entire fandom cheering news of your show’s cancellation, i think that’s a sign you done fucked up, julie.)
first and most infamous, of course, are the ship wars. which are pretty much inevitable in any teen-centered drama, and i really think the CW fucking thrives on them, but it was particularly egregious in TVD’s case because not only was the base premise of the show a love triangle, but the two main romantic leads were brothers that the show constantly pit against one another--in pursuit of elena’s affections, but also because it kept up this insistence on the ‘good brother/bad brother’ dichotomy which stopped making sense after about season 2 (by which time we have found out that the good brother was never as good as he appeared, and the bad brother has been growing and isn’t nearly as bad as he pretends to be)--and the question of which brother ‘deserved’ elena (and no, what elena wanted very rarely factored into these discussions, especially in the team stefan camp because they turned on her when what she wanted was no longer The Good Brother, but i’ll get to that in a bit) was hotly contested.
i’m not kidding when i say the shipping wars were vicious. i started watching tvd shortly after it began to air, which was late 2009, and kept up with it fairly sporadically over the years. i didn’t come onto tumblr until 2011/2012, and by then, the fandom was already pretty much a garbagefire. there were anti ship and anti character blogs, any time something bad happened for one ship the rival ship would invade the tags to gloat about it (seasons 3 and 4 were especially rough, and i’m not gonna pretend delena fans weren’t just as bad about tag invasion and shit, but as that was my side of the road i saw a lot more of the stelena shippers being assholes, which soured my opinion on the ship a long time before i started rewatching and realized the red flags were there from the start), confessions blogs were popular also toxic as fuck (so much fighting happened in the notes of those posts, good gods), and this was right around when twitter’s popularity was on the rise and the line between Celebrity and Fan was thinning, so the fandom was absolutely atrocious to much of the tvd cast and crew.
(some of them deserved a lot of the later backlash, but in the early years a lot of it was ‘how dare you write the story in a way i dont like, you terrible fucking person’, and gods don’t get me started on the dobsley vs nian Thing)
i think what really encapsulates my feelings on the tvd fandom as a whole, though, is the way they (to this DAY) treated elena gilbert, which can be summed up in one meme that gained a lot of traction around season 3 if i remember right: that gif of pam from true blood, with the text altered to read “i’m so OVER elena and her precious doppelganger vagina!”
i swear at one time i had over half the active tvd fan accounts on tumblr blocked, because i got to a point where i would no longer tolerate elena hate, and she was (and still is, in what remains of the fandom; you’ll see a lot of ‘elena was one of the worst things about the show’ takes from ex-fans, too) one of the most widely despised characters in the entire fandom. because she -checks smudged writing on hand- was a traumatized teenage girl who -reads off a crumpled notecard- couldn’t always perfectly sort out her own feelings and -squints at the ceiling- sometimes made mistakes or bad decisions. (except a lot of the fandom also insisted that she was a mary sue who had no character traits or flaws or faults and it was like....make up your fucking minds???? is she a calculating conniving bitch whose somehow manipulating these centuries old vampires to tie them around her little finger or is she a boring flat character with no depth and no flaws??? jfc)
there was this massive double standard, too--like, stefan and damon could fuck whoever they wanted and that was fine, but elena was constantly raked over the coals for the crime of developing romantic feelings for the two men who had become constants in her life and whom she cared for deeply, and oh my GOD the slut shaming that happened when elena slept with damon was fucking wild. (and also happened in canon lmfao. like the show had one of elena’s best friends basically call her diseased on screen for falling in love with someone other than stefan. it was gross and ridiculous and the friend in question was also being a giant hypocrite at the time since she was happily flirting with someone who was directly responsible for the deaths of like four of elena’s loved ones and her own boyfriend’s mother but that’s beside the point) but like elena was called a slut and a bitch and a whore for ‘cheating’ on stefan (she hadn’t, and she had in fact broken up with him on screen the episode earlier) and ‘immediately’ jumping into bed with damon, even though none of them said fucking boo when stefan had one night stands or damon had fuckbuddies or whatever.
shit, caroline didn’t get any of this treatment when she started falling for tyler while dating matt! which isn’t to say i think she should have, just that i think it’s fucking ridiculous that elena was absolutely demonized by the fandom for daring to have feelings for two guys at once and eventually acting on them--despite the fact that the entire premise of the show was a love triangle. it’s not a love triangle if both sides don’t eventually get explored, and the crew had been pretty explicit about the fact that delena was going to happen at some point--but when it did, a huge chunk of the fandom absolutely threw a fit.
and a lot of these elena haters were alleged stelena stans, and i say alleged because they hated her so much for not wanting stefan’s dick anymore that it was clear they were really stefan stans and only wanted stelena to be endgame because they wanted stefan to ‘win’ at the end of the day, because ‘he’s the good brother’ so he deserved elena more.
it was all very gross and very misogynistic and very sex shaming (apparently delena was a ‘shallow’ and ‘superficial’ relationship because they had sex after two years of unrequited feelings slowly becoming requited and then pining for ages on both sides, and because they had a lot of on screen chemistry that the show capitalized on for years so of course they did a lot of making out and shit but it’s not like stelena didn’t have its fair share of making out and sex scenes, stefan was just too much of a coward to let elena top i’d apologize for that joke but i’m really not sorry because it’s true), and when i say it was egged on by the crew, that’s because they refused to let the love triangle die back in season 4 when it should have.
they insisted on stringing stelena fans along, dropping little bread crumbs to keep them invested, like dreams of a future where they were married and revealing that stefan was also a doppelganger and he and elena were descended from a pair of star-crossed lovers (a plot that ultimately went nowhere, to no one’s great surprise), and then fucking like. julie plec turned around and threw nina under the bus after she chose not to extend her contract and pretended that stelena might have happened again if she hadn’t left the show, which....i mean frankly i wouldn’t put it past her, but it would have been shitty writing. then again, she thought having a vampire pregnancy where a uterus was magically transplanted from a witch into a vampire that could somehow......carry the babies to term.... made sense and was a good way to accomodate candice’s RL pregnancy rather than like literally ANYTHING else, soooooo. but anyway julie saying that around like, end of s6 sparked off a new wave of nina hate and elena hate and ship wars bc they SEers took it as ‘confirmation’ that stelena was REALLY meant to be endgame and it was all just a hot fucking mess
another thing is that, while tvd was in its prime before the anti/purity culture shit started picking up any real steam, there was still this pervasive attitude throughout the fandom that if you liked Damon, you were A Bad Person. liking damon was apparently grounds for insults and harassment, and apparently he was The Worst Person on the Show even though literally nothing he does on screen is any worse than shit we know stefan has done (and frankly every other vampire too, but i mention stefan specifically because he was always held up--in the show but especially in the fandom--as the Good Brother while damon was the Bad One, and if you liked damon more then that had to mean your morals were dodgy and you clearly couldn’t appreciate what a heroic and saintly figure dear stefan was and....oops, i’m sorry, my salt keeps leaking -cough-).
meanwhile klaus quickly became a fandom darling despite not even really having much of a redemption arc (on tvd anyway, he just became more ‘affably evil’ as the show went on and more inclined to work with the main characters rather than try to kill them; i have no idea what went on over on his show, though), and like i can 100% appreciate liking villains and not caring that they do dodgy villainous shit, even just liking them bc they’re hot and wanting them to kiss a main character bc they have insanely good chemistry (yes i ship klaroline, no i won’t apologize for it, they could have been Really Great), it’s just really the double standard that gets me.
and all of this, incidentally, required ignoring some truly gross shit stefan was responsible for wrt his relationship with elena, that frankly it has always bothered me never really got addressed in the show. i get why elena herself would never be able to actually call him on it, but the fact is that he stalked her for months after he first saw her and thought she was katherine (meanwhile it only took damon .5 seconds to realize she was someone else entirely, but that’s another topic entirely), and then he deliberately inserted himself into her life because, in his words, ‘i have to know her’. he never gave a thought to how his presence in her life might affect her (or rather, he did, and tormented himself about it in his internal monologue, but never let this actually dissuade him from disrupting her life), and elena would wind up blaming herself for every tragedy that befell her friends and loved ones as a result of getting mixed up in vampire bullshit even though none of it was her fault--she literally blamed herself for existing but most of the fandom didn’t give a fuck about that lmfao--and stefan did shit like find out that she was adopted and then withhold this information from her until she got pissed about another secret he was keeping (her resemblence to katherine) and drop it on her to try and distract her from her very reasonable anger, and like... i should stop before this becomes a whole rant about how much i hate stefan fucking salvatore, but the point is, he did a lot of really sketchy shit he never answered for and elena never really took him to task for, and the fandom just kept eating up his insistence that he was the Good Brother and therefore he deserved to have elena, and if she didn’t want him anymore it was because she was a heinous bitch who didn’t deserve him.
uh.....i think i got off track there. and there’s probably a lot of shit i missed, like i think i was incandescent with rage for most of seasons 5 and 6 so i missed a lot of the interfandom shit cause i was too busy being increasingly pissed off at the show itself, but if nothing else this should give you an idea of how much of a goddamn cesspit the fandom was while the show as in its prime. there’s a reason both the show and the fandom have such a lousy reputation lmfao.

Let’s go down the list shall we:
Katherine: gets impregnated with child out of wedlock, child torn away from her right after birth. Her entire sympathy arc is based on a child she didn’t even connect with.
Rebekah: Believes her trashy life will all be fixed with a hello kitty bandaid if she just had Kids and a Hubby, (when all she needs to do is get away from her toxic brothers and experience life on her own)
Isobel Flemming: Teen mom ™ who regrets child but loves child who wants child but doesn’t want child, who looses child because the guy is a coward, leads person who clearly wants to use/kill child to said child, then turns around and says I love child. (It’s like they couldn’t stick to a single villain arc because how could a mother possibly not care about her child when even the shitty dad does all the while having eight different dad hates child story lines sitting in the back burner.)
Valerie Tulle: gets pregnant with Stefan’s child and has child LITERALLY beaten out of her, has child PHYSICALLY beaten to death inside her, is pushed to the fucking ground and kicked in the stomach till child dies, commits suicide because of loss of child, is not even given the dignity to choose her own death, comes back as first Heretic to exist, all of this to push plot and create dRaMa b/w steroline. Yes they actually used a women who was violently beaten to near death and experienced an even more violent miscarriage at the hands of a guy who believed the child will make him late for a bone sesh, revolve around steroline and how Stefan wouldn’t love Caroline if he just had that child, THERES HALF A EPISODE JUST DEPICTING STEFAN’S MANPAIN ON LOOSING A COULD BE CHILD, when Valerie literally acts like a mechanical robot reiterating facts and her entire emotional “reaction” so to speak is her committing suicide AND NOTHING ELSE (as if they couldn’t be bothered to write female trauma) Like JFC you CANNOT TELL ME THIS IS DISGUSTING FUCKING SHIT THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST.
Jo Saltzman: Looses twin foetus children on her wedding day, is literally killed by her abusive psychotic brother on the fucking alter, to cover up Candice’s pregnancy, JESUS, HOW DID A PERSON WHO IS NOT UNHINGED IN THE BRAIN SIT DOWN AND COME UP WITH THIS, and not for one second think how fucking traumatising ALL of this is FOR NO GOOD REASON. Not even good plot, this was all for logistics they could’ve fucking covered up in a hundred other different ways.
Caroline Forbes: Do we even have to mention it? Is forced to endure pregnancy she has NO obligation to endure, is not even given a single scene to process the pregnancy and come up with a coherent response that isn’t “I will do it for you” forces herself to marry a man who is as old as her dad in human years for said children, said man turns around and tells her she is not these children’s mother to her face when she was literally FORCED into giving birth to two children that aren’t even her own. Looses all character development and becomes Mother of child ™.
Hayley Marshall: Nah bro I shouldn’t have to TELL you, but ok, gets pregnant with an abusive psychopath’s child, ykw the list is too long, y’all know the drill choked when wanting abortion, experiences atleast 7 near death experiences in the nine months she was pregnant all because Klaus wanted to play King to three streets and one marsh, and she was KWEEN of the werewolves, has the most violent birthing experience, her child revolves around Klaus’ redemption, hence her character fully revolves around said child and directly/indirectly Klaus, is turned into a fucking animal when she decided to do one damn thing for her own child, is nothing more than “Mother of Hope” throughout the show.
Freya Mikaelson: Of ALL the different things a women in literal captivity FOR HER ENTIRE LIFE can experience for backstory Trauma™ OF EVERYTHING they could choose, they yet again go for traumatic pregnancy, a self-induced miscarriage and a SUICIDE story revolving around said pregnancy, her selling point to the Mikaelsons is “I lost a child I won’t let you lose yours.” LIKE ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Forget misogynistic writing that’s just paper-thin-rumpled-trash-in-trash-can writing.
Esther Mikaelson: Chooses to give up her first born child for the prospect of multiple children, in Lenore’s body actually bloody tells Hayley she can have more babies if Hayley allows her to make Hayley Human, Hayley CONSIDERS THIS SERIOUSLY. Is actually shown to want to become human so she can have more babies.
Sarah Salvatore: Black woman who is KILLED by Damon to give manpain TO DAMON, like bruh wtf?? You seriously had Damon kill a pregnant black woman and give him manpain in the form of guilt to redeem him? YOU MADE A WOMAN’S MURDER ABOUT HER MURDERER’S GUILT?? JP and her team of writers cannot get more fucked up than this
Feel free to add to this, and if any fucker ever dare come to your page trying to fight that tvd/to is not MISOGYNISTIC in its ENTIRETY, you send them to this post, and this post only contains pregnancy related batshit crazy misogyny in the show, if we went through everything that is misogynistic, I’d say the transcript of the show is an entire comprehensive list of all of it. And seriously anybody who believes JP’s writing isn’t the most misogynistic sexist piece of writing that’s just a steaming hot pile of rotten shit, Well then I sincerely suggest you fuck off to some other corner of the world where TO/TVD stans can gather and lick white manpain experiencing male dick.
Sincerely someone who has watched TO/TVD top to bottom and is traumatised.
LOL yes exactly, like I don’t understand how someone could see this and say that it’s not so soaked in misogyny that nothing in the show can be separated from the violent sexism. Saying “well this character stood there in one scene and didn’t say anything sexist so you can’t call the entire thing sexist and if you do then you’re basically doing the same thing as calling all men sexist” (and like I don’t want that anon to start that argument again but LITERALLY WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ANALOGY) is an absurd, fatuous argument.

The Vampire Files/1
Tumblr media
Fanfiction
Part 1
AU crossover story
Elena  Gilbert and Nick Amaro are FBI agents, investigating paranormal activity and all different strange cases involving demons, witchcraft, vampires.
There will be other tvd/to characters in it. All of them and they will all have different roles, completely different than those on TVD/TO and some Law&Order svu characters like Olivia Benson.
As always- love plays a great part too!
I hope you enjoy this story- as always thanks for reading. xoxo
@miguelsbrat
a/n: blame this one me still watching Law&Order svu and other shows  like Penny Dreadful, City of Angels. And been rewatching X files and - cuz I can’t get enough of Nick, the detectiveguapo.  😊
****
Elena Gilbert extended her condolences to her partner's wife.
"I am so sorry", the Agent said,"Jackson was a really good man."
"Yes, he was."Freya said numb. Elena could see in the woman's eyes that she still blamed her for her husband's death. To tell her that she was going to do everything to avenge her partner was not appropriate at that moment. Elena just nodded as a goodbye to the woman and walked off.
To be a Special agent of the FBI was a tough job. Death was everywhere. A daily occurrence. She has seen the most heinous crimes in the seven years she had been with the Bureau, and although she looked like she was stoned faced and nothing much moved her, she hid a very warm and tormented heart under the made up facade. The picture of Jackson with his heart ripped out kept lingering in her head and although she tried to block it with her usual methods of removing herself from the pain, it still was so vivid and it made her contemplate leaving her job altogether.
****
At the FBi HQ- the Executive Assistant Director stood up greeting Special agent Nick Amaro offering him a seat. The Agent  sat down ready to listen why he was brought in taken away from a case he was investigating. The two men obviously knew each other well, but still there was a certain coldness that made this meeting a very brief affair.
"It is the extension of the X-files, you are familiar with I know. Elena Gilbert, your new partner, has been working on it for the last two years. I believe you have heard that she had lost her partner two weeks ago."
"I have. And I suppose you are assigning me to the X-files?!" Nick said with no particular emotion.
The EAD passed him the file Elena and Jackson were working on adding a simple yes.
"That is all, I guess." the Agent  said taking the folder standing up.
"This is off record" Rafael Barba said. "Just so you know, you were not reassigned because of the shooting. We thought that agent Gilbert would need someone with your expertise."
"Is that all?" Nick sais standing up, ready to leave.
The man just nodded and with that Nick left the office. He wasn't particularly surprised at the reassignment. And it had all to do with the shooting. Him losing his cool for a moment was something he knew he would pay severely. He took his phone and pressed the speedial.
*********
Meanwhile
Elena walked in her office. Another agent was waiting for her to leave the last forensic data she had received.
"Wasn't expecting you here today." Olivia said as she handed her the file over.
Elena sat down at her desk. "If I work and get Jackson's killer then I am useful. I just couldn't be there any longer or go the house. Freya still blames me. And maybe she is right. This is all my fault."
Tumblr media
"Come on. He was a professional. And you were in far worse situations before." Olivia said.
"We should have done it differently. Like all the the text book stuff got lost on the way. I don't know. I am playing it over and over in my head at what moment the investigation went so out of hand. I will almost believe he was cursed. Like that voodoo priest said." Elena lamented.
The women were interrupted by the knock on the door and a man walking in greeting them politely as he introduced himself, "Hello. Agent Nick Amaro. I've been assigned to -  I’m your new partner."
Elena stood up looking at him nodding a little. She knew that eventually someone would be assigned to take Jackson's place, "Gilbert -uhm, this is Olivia Benson, FSS ( Forensic Science Service)"
Olivia welcomed the Agent and then excused hersel, leaving the Agents.
Elijah looked around at a very small office. with the most strangest posters and a board of It felt like he was demoted. But it actually it didn't matter. They would be out in the field lot more than in his place. He walked over to the desk that was set exactly opposite from Elena's. It was still cluttered with Jackson's things and notes, other personals stuff, like the photo of his wife.
"Yes. I have not yet come to clearing it up. It will be done today." Elena said standing up, taking the photo off the desk and collecting the notes jotted on the papers scattered on it.
“I know how it feels.”Nick inhaled softly.  He remembered his own loss. Losing a partner is one of the hardest things, as this person is more than a friend. Someone you put your lives in hands on a daily basis, especially in their line of the work. He knew of her, seeing her in the building numerous times, and always wondered how someone like her got to work with the Bureau. 'She is tough as nails' Rollins said to Nick once as they had heard of a case a kidnapping of a little girl being solved by her and Jackson a year before.
"Nick Amaro - Ah, I remember now. You worked on the cold cases, and then with the Jeffersonian. Here it is about monsters and paranormal. Voodoo, witchcraft, demons. Take your pick."
"I heard you have PhD in demonology?!" Nick said.
"Did you not read my resume. Anyway, how do you stand on that?" Elena shot back.
"Demons? am here to investigate criminal activities. I had a fair share of twisted cases."
"Twisted cases, ha?" Elena said not so happy his take on it.
"Maybe not a clever choice of words." Nick corrected himself seeing the deadly look she gave him.
Tumblr media
"Maybe." Elena said. "so, I guess you read the file?!"
"I did. Actually skimmed through it. I heard also that another body was found in Virginia, Mystic Falls." Nick said.
"Yes. All drained of blood. No markings on the obvious places, suspecting vampire activity."
"Vampire activity?" Nick said with a surprise in his voice.
"Yes," Elena replied,"File under the number 88. Vampires, beings from who subsists by feeding on the life essence, generally in the form of blood, of living creatures. "Oh, I guess they will finally send someone down to install your own computer. We are here like non-existent as you can see. It's like weird doesn't really is real."
"Agent Benson brought the forensics in? Nick now asked to change the mood.
Elena handed the latest update sheet to him."There."
As soon as he entered the room she noticed a certain assurance and command in his demeanor. He was about the work. There was no reason for her to act so defensively towards him. She knew very well that someone would be assigned to take Jackson's place. But, his appearance made the reality that Jackson was gone for good absolute. And it was harsh. Jackson's dead face came back to her and suddenly went pale.
Nick noticed the change in her. "Gilbert, are you all right?"
"Fine." Elena replied coolly, obviously trying to hide the pain.
"No, you're not. And it's perfectly acceptable. You are allowed to grieve."
Elena just put a small dismissive smile on as if thanking him for his truthful concern, but she was not ready for anything personal yet, so she overrode the moment and continued to talk about the case.
Nick listened, letting her brief him fully. It was clear that there was vulnerability under the facade of a woman made out of steel. He listened to her like in a trance. Everything about her captured his soul from the moment he walked into the office. This he could not deny, although he ignored it.

Elsewhere
Rebekah walked in the diner, and sat down at the table at the end, taking her phone out, reading a message. The waitress came around with the cup of coffee, serving her, "Bad day?"
Rebekah thanked her for the coffee and replied, "I had worse."
The waitress left and she put the phone aside and looked out. It was still raining. There were days one wish they could be erased altogether. This was one of these days for Dr Rebekah St. Claire. She looked at her finger, where once a diamond ring was.
Flashback "I can't do this Bex. And it's noz because I don't love you. But, I am not myself. Everything inside of me is about the kidnapping. You've seen me. I could have hurt you yesterday. I can't. Let's call this all off" Marcel said.
"Please- we can do therapy- together. You can't just- go-" Rebekah said tearing up feeling like someone had kicked her in the guts.
Marcel felt the same- and looking at her so cut made his psychosis brew up wanting to set the world on fire for having messed with him.
”I can't” he slipped and walked out of the room.
Her attention was soon diverted by her friend Caroline, who sat down opposite from the doctor.
"Hey" Caroline just said without adding anything else. She knew all about her fiance's trouble.
"It hurts. And - you know what today is?"
"Yes. Would have been W-day"
"And look at it- pissing down with rain," Rebekah said, "maybe it is telling me something."
"I know this sounds like a cliche- but it will get easier" Caroline said.
"Not till I know that he is healed - somehow"
"You still blame yourself - the kidnapping had nothing to do with you" Caroline tried to comfort her friend.
"Come on, Caroline, we know it's not true. I had the evidence."
"And you could not give them - we don't negotiate with criminals" the blonde reminded her.
"No-" Rebekah said pensively.
Caroline's phone buzzed and she answered it-
"Klaus?- No. Still waiting the evidence to be released. Yeah- Later"
"You still hate his guts?" Rebekah now remarked "Pretty much. Hate having to work as his deputy" Caroline said.
"But since he was appointed as DA things are getting done- and you rock as a team"
"Can we not talk about him and work. Pie?" Caroline suggested.
Rebekah  nodded as in yes, please.
********** At the FBI HQ
Nick was left reading Elena's notes from the File 88 - as she was called away to the Field Director.
He tried to cross-reference the data with the present case. Everything indicated that Elena was right. This murder was very much related to these mythical creatures.
A knock at the door made Nick look up as a man entered asking for Elena.
"Hi. Elena?" the man said, obviously inquiring for her whereabouts.
"Out," Nick said simply,"you are?" He knew who the man was, but he still wanted formal introduction, "Agent Salvatore, Stefan."
"Nick Amaro" the Agent replied turning away from the file.
"You"re her new partner?!"' Stefan cocked an eyebrow at the Agent.
"I am." Nick replied adding,"leaving a message?"
"No. I will call her later. See you" Stefan said and exited the office.
Nick returned to reading the file when his phone buzzed.
"Third body appeared in the woods," Elena informed him, “I’m outside.”
Swiping the call off, he put his coat on and went out.
*******
Elsewhere
Caroline walked in the pub called 'Georgetown' putting down her bag on the bar stool next to Stefan.
"What are you having?" Stefan asked.
"The same as you." Caroline said."it stopped raining."
"It did. I went to see Elena. She got a new partner." Stefan informed his friend.
"So, she did?! Who is it?"
"Nick Amaro" Stefan said.
"Right." Caroline said."I tried to call her. Today was Jackson's funeral. She hasn't answered any of my calls yet."
"She has just sent me a message that she is going to be out of town for a few days. The case." Stefan updated the attorney.
"She is allowed time off, but she has not taken one day off," Caroline said,"one day she will come crushing down."
"Not until this case is over and they find Jackson's killer." Stefan said."But even then she might just sweep it under the mental carpet."
Caroline now took the Bourbon that was served- and inhaled sharply.
*******
Three and a half hours later, Elena and Nick arrived in Mystic Falls. Although it was quite late, Elena wanted to see the Sheriff and get a brief update.
"Sheriff Donovan? Elijah said.
"Yes," Matt said,"come to my office."
Elena and Nick followed the Sheriff in. As they recieved the report, Elena asked when she could see the body. And of course it was first thing in the morning.
“Right.” Elena muttered and then asked if there was anywhere they could grab something to eat.
"The Grill. It’s the best place if you like home made type of food." Matt said.
"Pie - I actually really need some pie." Elena said.
“They served the best pie in all of Virginia” the Sheriff replied putting his hat on. “I’m on my way there, too.”
Soon, Elena and Nick were at the Grill with a burger and a slice of apple pie each.
After taking a bit of the pie, Elena seemed to change into a different person, making Elijah say, "Lack of sugar?"
"I think better when I had something sweet.” Elena said raising her eyebrow at her new partner.
Nick looked at her as if taking notes.
"Ready for the vampire hunt?"
"Excuse me?"
"Everything you said on the way here makes perfect sense, but trust me everything will defy logic." Elena said.
She spoke as if she already knew that they would be tapping in the dark, and there was a whiff of darkness from her heart kicking at him. A strange kind of resignation. It was not that particular case, it was clear to him that she was talking about Jackson's case.
"Agent Salvatore is on Agent Kenner's case?!" Nick then said.
Elena nodded with a small bitter smile.
How, why- at that moment he wished he could take the pain away from those stone cold dark eyes.
Come out while the rain is gone Slow down breathing on your road And the world keeps spinning around while we dive in it And the world is . in stone leaving marks on our skin

TVD 9x04 (part 1) Enjoy! =)
Cut to – freaky old mansion library. Darius is sitting on a couch having a gin and reading what seems to be a really old book, the door opens… Matt enters.
Tumblr media
DARIUS: Sheriff Donovan, I’ve been expecting you…
Tumblr media
MATT: I know… (hands him an engraved wooden black box, then walks away).
Cut to – Whitmore College, Elena’s dorm, early morning.
Tumblr media
Elena wakes up with a terrible hang-over. Bonnie hands her 2 aspirins and a glass of water.
BONNIE: Here, take these.
ELENA: Thank you, Bon… Listen, I’m really sorry about last night, I was way out of line… a royal bitch, really… I’m sorry.
BONNIE: Don’t sweat it, it happens sometimes… what’s important is that you figure out what you want and go for it… O.K.?
CAROLINE: And maybe stay away from shots for a while… (they laugh)
ELENA: I love you guys so much… Sure you can’t stay a bit longer?
CAROLINE: We’d love to, but we need to head back. We’ll see each other at our Halloween/reunion party, right? You better come!! And bring Sam!
ELENA: I wouldn’t miss it; and yes, I’ll bring Sam but only if you promise not to tease him the entire night!
CAROLINE: I’ll be on my best behavior, I promise.
BONNIE: Don’t make promises you can’t keep, Care… (Caroline winks, they hug and say their goodbyes).
Cut to - Salvatore mansion, later that morning. Damon comes into Stefan’s room.
DAMON: I hate to say I told you so… but I told you so! Bitch is gone and took my car! My car, Stefan!
Tumblr media
STEFAN: (Still snoozed, lying in bed) Wait, what? No… she wouldn’t…
DAMON: Did becoming a human, dying and resurrecting give you brain damage? I can’t believe I let you do this! I knew this was gonna happen and yet I chose to give you the benefit of the doubt… Now, zombie Kat is out there somewhere, driving my car! My car Stefan! I and only I can drive my car!!
STEFAN: (Mocking) Bonnie can drive your car…
Tumblr media
DAMON: Shut up…
Katherine walks in with a bag of bagels.
KATHERINE: Bagels, anyone? Got them fresh from the store…
Tumblr media
Oh, Damon (throws him his car keys), I hope you don’t mind, I took your car… (winks). By the way, it’s a piece of crap…
Tumblr media
Anyway, I’ll leave them in the kitchen, but don’t take too long; I swear, this coming back to life thing makes me so freaking hungry! (Walks out).
STEFAN: (To Damon) You were saying?... Now, please leave, I need more shut-eye.
Tumblr media
DAMON: (As he is walking out) Maybe not today Stefan but trust me, it will happen.
STEFAN: Shot the door on your way out! (Damon leaves it open to spite him; minutes later, Stefan hears Caroline yelling).
CAROLINE: Oh, no, are you freaking kidding me! Who the hell unleashed the stray cat!!!!!
STEFAN: (To himself) Oh, no… (gets out of bed, Caroline vamps her way into the room).
CAROLINE: Care to explain to me why the psycho bitch devil is calmly eating bagels in my kitchen?
Tumblr media
STEFAN: (Trying to be funny) She was hungry?
CAROLINE: Stefan! What’s going on?! Talk, now!
STEFAN: Care, I know it’s a risk, but she can help and right now we need all the hands we can get to pull this off…
CAROLINE: I know we do, but we can’t trust her! It’s too risky.
STEFAN: It’s just as risky as trusting Klaus…
CAROLINE: That’s a low blow…
Tumblr media
STEFAN: Listen, Care, do you trust me?
CAROLINE: You know I do, so what’s your point?
STEFAN: I promise to make sure she doesn’t pull a Katherine… but we can use her help; plus, we might be surprised, maybe she is capable of changing, right the wrongs… we’ve all done some pretty horrible stuff and we found it within ourselves to be better…
CAROLINE: Well, you do make a good point. Fine, I will accept as long as you make sure she doesn’t make any trouble! I swear, I will break her neck at the first sign of deviation.
STEFAN: Deal! (They kiss).
CAROLINE: Let me talk to Bonnie before she takes care of Katherine on her own terms. Oh, and start getting ready for the memorial.
STEFAN: Sure… what about the twins, did you talk to them?
CAROLINE: We did, they can’t wait to see you. (Kisses him, then leaves).
Tumblr media
Cut to – Damon and Bonnie talking in the living room.
DAMON: He’s crazy, am I right?
Tumblr media
BONNIE: He is. But I get where he’s coming from.
DAMON: Bon-Bon, this is Katherine we are talking about, the badest bitch of all!
BONNIE: I know but people can change, Damon; I mean, you did… so, there might be some hope…
DAMON: Well, can’t argue with that but I’m still not trusting her.
BONNIE: Oh, hell no; it’s one thing to be hopeful, another to be stupid.
DAMON: Anyway, how did it go with Elena, is she on board?
BONNIE: No, we had to abort mission, she’s going through an existential phase so we thought it would be best to leave her out of this one.
DAMON: But this is a huge one Bon, we can use as much help as we can get.
BONNIE: I know, but she needs a time out.
DAMON: Ok. Listen, Bon, I talked to Alaric about what we saw in that book… he thinks it has something to do with this crazy-ass cult called The Liberatus, Radka is helping him decipher an ancient scripture that might just hold the key to what we are looking for…
BONNIE: The Liberatus? I’ve heard that name before… or read it somewhere? Yes… I think I saw something about them in one of the Bennion’s grimoires… not sure.
DAMON: You probably did, Bon. The source… the link…  the Bennion coven… this freak cult… Darius… you… it’s all connected, we just need to figure out how…
BONNIE: Maybe Klaus’s house guest can tell us more?
DAMON: I’m sure she can… Batman & Robin team-up?
BONNIE: (Gives him a smirk) Oh, for sure!…
Tumblr media
(After they finish their drink, she gets up) Well, come on Robin, let’s go fight some crime (mocking him).
DAMON: Robin? Oh, no, no, no…
Tumblr media
I’m Batman! I’m Batman, Bon! Bats are associated with vampires and pretty birds with witches…
BONNIE: Pretty birds with witches, really? Ah…no. I’m Batman, and I get to drive the “batmobile”, so… (signals him to give her the car keys)
Tumblr media
DAMON: (Rolls his eyes with resignation, give her his keys) Fine, but I get dibs on the music!
BONNIE: (Mocking) I’m pretty sure they don’t play Boyz II Men on the radio anymore…
DAMON: That was Stefan’s!
Tumblr media
BONNIE: (Still mocking) Yeah, sure… (laughs, they leave).
Cut to - Matt and Khuyana’s house. Ty and Khuyana are talking in the kitchen, Matt walks in.
KHUYANA: Hey, sleepy head. Didn’t hear you come in last night. Want some breakfast? More like late lunch…
MATT: Sorry, I got home really late, the Mayor needed my help with some things.
TYLER: I see exploitation is still a thing…
MATT: You know it. Listen, I have to go to the office, probably gonna be an all-nighter again. You two heading to the memorial?
KHUYANA: We are, aren’t you coming?
MATT: Sorry, I can’t, please tell Caroline and Radka I’m sorry…
KHUYANA: But you were the one that arranged everything… don’t you think it’s important you attend?
Tumblr media
MATT: I do, but I really can’t (kisses her). I’m sorry, the Mayor needs me… and I need to pay the bills, you know?
Tumblr media
KHUYANA: Fine, but they won’t be happy… and, we are supposed to team back afterward, grand plan and all, remember?
MATT: I do, please don’t make me feel worse than I already do… I’m working on my part of the plan, trust me.
TYLER: Sorry to change the subject, but you guys really don’t mind me staying here?
MATT: Ty, are you insane?! This is your house! If anything, we are the ones that should be looking for another place.
TYLER: No, this is now your house, I left it to you, Matt. I’ll find something else.
KHUYANA: Nonsense! You are staying here with us! This house is huge.
MATT: Yes Ty, you ain't going anywhere… this is our house.
Tumblr media
TYLER: O.K., but if it gets awkward, let me know…
Tumblr media
KHUYANA:  It won’t.
MATT: Great, so it’s settled then. I need to head out (kisses Khuyana, bro hugs Ty).
Cut to – Mikaelson mansion, Bonnie and Damon ring the doorbell, Klaus opens.
KLAUS: I thought we were meeting later today, after the memorial? Did I miss something?
BONNIE: We need to talk to Danae, Aelish, or whatever her name is…
KLAUS: I’m afraid that won’t be possible, she is feeling under the weather.
DAMON: We really don’t care how she feels, get her, now.
KLAUS: Do you think just because you are some sort of vamperstain I feel threatened by you? (Lashes out at him) Know who you are talking to, Damon.
BONNIE: I suggest you do the same… (Displays her powers, brings him to the ground)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
KLAUS: Bonnie… stop!
BONNIE: Get her down here, right now! (Attacks harder).
Tumblr media
KLAUS: Stop! Bonnie… you’re killing me! She stops).
Tumblr media
BONNIE: If I wanted you dead, you would be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
KLAUS: (As he recovers) Careful Bonnie, remember what we talked about… You seemed to have enjoyed that a bit too much… I will go get her.
DAMON: Bon, you O.K.? Gotta say that was pretty scary…
BONNIE: To be honest, I have no idea where that came from (looking concerned) … worst part is, I did enjoy it… feeling all that power… Damon, I’m worried…
Tumblr media
DAMON: We’ll figure this out, Bon, I promise. Whatever is happening to you, we’ll find a way, we always do.
BONNIE: I really hope so cause I’m beginning to think Klaus maybe right… what if I can’t control it?
DAMON: You are much stronger than he thinks, you can do this, Bon. And, whatever happens, I’ll be with you every step of the way... I’m the Robin to your Batman, remember?... We got this. (Hugs her).
Tumblr media
KLAUS: Oh, lovely (mocking); I figured you had better taste, Bonnie. A woman like you deserves a real man, not a child… Anyway, you may come in now, she is waiting in the living room… (Damon and Bonnie walk in).
DANAE: (To Bonnie) So, you are the precious “link”, I presume? You have no idea how long they have been searching for you… God damn the day you came into existence…
Tumblr media
DAMON: Hey!
BONNIE: Listen, I’m just trying to figure out what all of this means…  I didn’t ask for any of it.
DANAE: Guess that’s true… I’m sorry, I just never thought this moment would actually come… that they would get away with it.
BONNIE: Who is, they?
DANAE: The Liberatus…
DAMON: So, they are real…
DANAE: Very much so; have been around for thousands of years. Generation after generation, they have been the puppet masters behind every single power structure, and responsible for the most heinous crimes humanity has ever seen. Rumor has it that Hitler was a Liberatus… they are obsessed with “cleansing” the world.
BONNIE: How come nobody knows about them?
Tumblr media
DANAE: They have power over everything, never get their hands dirty, always have others do the dirty work for them and leave no traces that can connect back to them; that’s how they have managed to remain incognito this whole time.
BONNIE: And how are they involved with your coven?
DANAE: My ex coven, I don’t associate with psychopaths. (With disdain) That family was one of the founding members of the Liberatus…
DAMON: One of? Who are the others?
Tumblr media
DANAE: I don’t know. All I know is that the Liberatus are, beyond a doubt, lords and masters of the world… Absolutely everything is a chess piece in their board.
BONNIE: How can we stop them?
DANAE: (Laughs) Oh Bonnie, is that a serious question? You can’t.
Tumblr media
BONNIE: I have all this new power, I’m pretty sure I can.
DANAE: You do, but this is not about that kind of power… you are a weapon to them, a very dangerous one, yes, but still just a weapon, which they can arm and disarm at their will.
BONNIE: I might be struggling to control this source thing, but I will not bend to their will.
Tumblr media
DANAE: You won’t have a choice. You see, Bonnie, as supernatural beings we think we have power over humans because we have special powers that make us stronger, but we underestimate the human mind and what it’s capable of accomplishing… There are many highly intelligent humans with better tactics and strategy than most of us. They also have power, money, and therefore, access to very sophisticated and advanced technologies. And, let’s not forget, that they can be as ruthless, if not more, than any supernatural being.
DAMON: We don’t need a sermon on us vs. them, if you actually have any useful information, spit it out.
Tumblr media
DANAE: As I said, that is all I know… But, Bonnie, you really need to be careful, that kind of power can make anyone go mad… Oh, and one other thing… don’t block your psychic powers because of your ethics, they can be very useful if you are attempting to fight them…
BONNIE: (Sarcastically) I’ll take that under consideration, thanks. (To Damon) Well, seems like that’s all the info we are going to get, so let’s go.
DANAE: As a closing note, some insight on my dear brother; you and Darius are the only psychic witches ever to exist, and it’s no coincidence you met. Trust that the bond you share will confuse you, and when the moment comes you might not be able to deliver the final blow…
BONNIE: Oh, I’ll deliver, don’t worry about that, but, thanks for the tip.
DANAE: You may be more powerful than him, but make no mistake, he is the master of illusion, and persuasion...
BONNIE: He’ s very good, no doubt. But I’m prepared this time.
DANAE: You better be... (Damon and Bonnie leave).
KLAUS: You didn’t tell them everything…
Tumblr media
DANAE: I told them what they needed to know.
Cut to the Mayor’s office, Matt walks in.
EDWARD: Sheriff, I trust you delivered my package?
MATT: It’s done.
EDWARD: Excellent, believe me, it’s for the best; keep your enemies, closer and all…
MATT: I don’t understand, we know where he is, why not just take him down right now?
Tumblr media
EDWARD: Patience Sheriff, this is like a chess game, doesn’t matter how long it takes as long as it’s checkmate.
MATT: What about the rest of them?
EDWARD: Bring one down, bring all of them down.
MATT: Listen, I have to go back to the station, I still need to go through those documents…
EDWARD: Yes, please do, and let me know if you find what we are looking for. (As Matt is walking out) Sheriff, do you like clowns?
MATT: What?
EDWARD: Clowns… do you like them?
MATT: When I was little, I guess. Why?
EDWARD: Just curious... (Matt leaves).
Tumblr media
Cut to – Salvatore school, student’s memorial. The twins see Stefan and run to hug him.
 LIZ & JOSIE: Uncle Stefan!!!!
STEFAN: Girls!! I’m so happy to see you!!!
LIZZY: I can’t believe you are alive! Are you alive? (pinches him to make sure).
STEFAN: Ouch! (Laughs) Yes, yes, I am.
JOSIE: Please don’t leave us again!
STEFAN: I won’t, I promise. (they keep hugging).
Tumblr media
KLAUS: Ah, isn’t this sweet? (To the girls) Hello ladies, delighted to see you.
LIZ & JOSIE: Uncle Klaus! (They hug him).
STEFAN: (To himself) Uncle Klaus?
KLAUS: What have my favorite twins been up to?
JOSIE: Learning some really cool magic stuff from Aunt Bonnie!
KLAUS: I’m glad, she is one, if not the best, so pay attention.
JOSIE: We always do.
KLAUS: Good for you.
LIZZY: Josie, come, let’s go get dad! (They leave).
STEFAN: Klaus, what are you doing here? We are supposed to be meeting later.
KLAUS: I came to pay my respects.
STEFAN: You didn’t even know them.
KLAUS: Well, neither did you… but this is important to Caroline so, here I am. (Caroline approaches them).
Tumblr media
CAROLINE: Klaus, you came… Thank you.
KLAUS: Of course I did, you ask, I come… Plus, I would not miss an opportunity to see you in a black dress, love. (Stefan rolls his eyes).
CAROLINE: Come on you two, it’s about to start. Where the heck is Bonnie and Damon? They were supposed to be here over an hour ago!
KLAUS: They are not here yet? They left my house more than an hour ago…
STEFAN: They were at your house? Why?
KLAUS: Wanted, or rather demanded, to talk to my friend Danae.
CAROLINE: And? What happened?
KLAUS: Nothing, they talked, they left.
CAROLINE: (Calls Bonnie’s cell) Come on Bonnie, pick up (Damon and Bonnie arrive) Nevermind… (hangs up). Bonnie! Where were you?!
BONNIE: Sorry we’re late… we’ll talk later, O.K.?
Tumblr media
CAROLINE: (Looks at Damon and Bonnie suspiciously) Oh, you bet we will! Everyone take a seat; the ceremony is about to start.
The memorial is held, filled with kind words, tears and laughter.
Cut to – Police Station, Matt in his office looking at some documents, a Police Officer knocks on his door.
POLICE OFFICER: Sheriff, something came for you, can I come in?
MATT: Yes, come in. (Police Officer comes in).
POLICE OFFICER: Here (hands him an envelope).
MATT: Who sent this?
POLICE OFFICER: I don’t know, got delivered by mail. There is no name or forwarding address… (Matt takes the envelope).
MATT: Thank you Officer (the Officer leaves. Matt opens the envelope, it has an antique key engraved with the letter L and a hand-written scripted note with a date - October 31st, a time - 24:00 and some coordinates).

Shall We Dance? - Kol
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kol x Reader (eventual)
Warnings: Bad pickup lines??
***
The Mikaelson ball was truly a sight to behold. The men in their tuxes and the women in their best gowns. You hadn't been to an event like this in decades. You had been invited by both Elijah and Klaus but it was Elijah's invitation that brought you there. You got along well enough with the hybrid but you didn't trust him. He always seemed to want something from you but you weren't about to fall into the trap of being one of his pet witches. You were far too powerful and intelligent for that.
Elijah, on the other hand, respected your position and the two of you had become great friends over the years. His gaze fell on you as you made your way to the bar for a new drink. Something stronger than the champagne they seemed to be pouring by the gallon. His eyes lit up and he gave you a warm smile. He continued his conversation however and you knew he would find you later.
"Whiskey neat, please," you said as you reached the bar.
"That's quite a drink," a voice said from beside you.
You hummed in agreement but didn't even spare a glance for the man. The bartender placed the glass in front of you and you sipped at the dark liquid. It burned all the way down and you enjoyed every second of it.
"What's your name?" he asked. "I'm Kol. Perhaps you've heard of me."
Of course you had, the younger brother. Ladies' man. Impulsive. Klaus tended to keep him daggered to keep the rest of the family out of trouble. Of course, with Mikael gone that wouldn't be necessary any longer. Interested now, you turned to take the man in. "Can't say that I have," you told him, not wanting to inflate his ego any more than necessary. "My name is Y/N Y/L/N."
"Beautiful name for a beautiful girl."
His cheeky smirk, dark hair and dark eyes, made a rather attractive package truth be told, but you'd never been that easy to win over and you weren't about to start now. "That's what you're going with?"
His brow furrowed and you glanced past him to see Elijah watching your conversation, his lips twitching in amusement. "What do you mean?" Kol asked drawing your attention back to him.
You arched a brow. "I mean of all the words in the English language those are the ones you chose to put together? Beautiful name for a beautiful girl? How many women have you said that to over the years?"
He smiled wide and looked you over from head to toe as if enjoying the realization you wouldn't be easy prey.  "A few. I never meant it until you."
You rolled your eyes as you downed the rest of your drink. "Casual pick up lines won't work on me."
"And what does work on you, sweetheart? I'm dying to know." He leaned closer until he was only inches away from you. Your heartbeat quickened and you saw his knowing smile as he heard.
Elijah appeared beside you and offered his hand, which you gladly took. "Honesty is usually the best policy when it comes to Y/N. You should try it sometime."
Elijah spun you out into the middle of the dance floor. "Hello, Y/N."
"Hello, Elijah. It's good to see you again. Thank you for the invitation."
He smiled. "Of course. What fun is a ball without my favorite dance partner in attendance? Is Kol bothering you? I can get him to leave you be if you'd prefer."
He twirled you causing you to laugh as he spun you back into his arms. "He's not a bother, but it's no fun if you don't make them work for it. What I would like is to know why you really invited me, Elijah? Why did Niklaus invite me?"
"You always were intelligent." He turned as you danced so he could take in the room immediately around the two of you. Pulling you closer to him, he lowered his head to yours so he could speak in your ear. "My mother has returned from the dead. She says she wishes to unite the family. I don't believe her. I need to know if she's up to something."
"Of course," you answered with a smile. It should be a simple enough task. Before Elijah could say anything else, someone tapped on his shoulder.
"Mind if I cut in, brother?" Kol asked.
Elijah tilted his head to you then handed you over. "Hello again, Kol," you said. "Have any new material you'd like to try?"
"You wound me, Y/N. You honestly do," he responded, full of mock sincerity.
Suddenly, the music ended and an announcement was made. "Please join us in the entryway for a toast."
"Ah, it's mother's turn to be the center of attention," Kol stated. "Shall we?" He offered his arm and you looped yours with his. You ended up standing between Kol and Elijah. Klaus caught your eye and you gave him a smile and a slight bow of your head. He saluted you with the glass he'd just taken from the waiter.
Elijah turned to speak with a petite brunette as Kol handed you a glass. An electric shock went through your fingers as you took it from him. Not a spell, but something else. Preparation for a spell, perhaps? You closed your eyes and inhaled the aroma from the champagne as you whispered your own spell for insight. Blood in the drink to bind the family. There could be no good purpose for that. "Don't drink it," you said in a low tone, knowing the vampires on either side of you would hear.
You watched out the corner of your eyes as both men pretended to drink without actually swallowing any of the liquid. They quickly put their glasses, as well as yours, on the tray of a passing waiter. Elijah leaned down and laid his lips against your ear. "Klaus heard your warning as well I believe. Would you care to elaborate?"
You gave him a small smile. "Not here."
"Of course," he said and kissed your cheek.
Kol took your hand and turned you to face him. "Now, Ms. Y/L/N, if it is honesty you wish, it is honesty you shall have. My eyes haven't left you since you walked through the door. You outshine every other woman here without even trying. You are simply stunning."
With that he kissed the back of your hand and you couldn't keep the smile from your face. "Well done, Mr. Mikaelson."
His smile mirrored your own as he bowed before you and offered you his hand once more. "Shall we dance?"
You slid your hand into his, vowing to worry about Esther and whatever magic she wished to weave tomorrow.

'Do you think the Universe fights for souls to be together? Some things are too strange and strong to be coincidences!'
Emery Allen
💭
Parting from the kiss, Elena stood looking at Elijah like in a daze. tasted like-of vanilla-apple with a dash of cinnamon, so fruity and fragrant with divine effect on her whole being.
Had this just happen? Was it yet another dream, one of so many she had over the years. Elena could not believe that he was right there, in front of her, and had just kissed, and his eyes were gazing at her lovingly.
Snapping now out of her momentary dream like moment, she now kissed him back.
And it felt like flying. To Elijah as well. And her kiss spelled that all of her wanted all of him.
Forehead to forehead, nose to nose now enchanted in the moment of the sweet realization that immense feelings exploded.
"I had these feelings... always had them-"- Elijah then said.
"You did?"- Elena whispered smiling a little trying to catch her breath.
"Yes, Elena. But I never thought that you might feel anything for me"-he now looked at her dreamily.
"Oh- if only you knew!"- she then said and kissed him again.
*********
In New Orleans
"They are killing me"- Caroline said to Klaus-"Can any of them just send me a message and tell me how it went!"
"And how do you think it went? I don't think she kicked him out of the apartment?!"- Klaus replied.
In Toronto
Elena didn't kick him out of her apartment, of course not- they made it to the sofa eventually-
Elena caressed his face.
"You are here- I can't believe this"-
"Believe it"- he replied and he cupped her chin placing a butterfly of a kiss on her lips.
This is a dream- this is a dream- Elena's head bounced with the thought still not comprehending that all was very real and not make believe.
Moving out of the kiss, Elijah removed a streak of her fringe aside saying-"I love you"
"Say it again"- Elena said.
He smiled now and said -" I love you"-
She now gazed at him as if wanted to capture this moment for all eternity.
"Elena?"- Elijah now uttered-
"Ha?"- she muttered.
"You floated away- just checking if you're still here?!"
He flashed back to the first time she had met her in the conference room, coming to him with a hand held out to shake his introducing herself with an amazing positive, friendly and yet fierce look on her face. There was this immediate magnetism, which translated in their work at first, denying and suppressing anything else. And he had not seen her overtaken by her emotions completely- looking somewhat lost in space.
"I am processing- huh"- she then said-"I tried to stop loving you- huh-"- she inhaled and exhaled-"and then I saw you at Caroline's wedding- and you melted my frozen heart"
"What? It didn’t look like you were happy to see me. It was more like- OMG- he is here.”
"I - was just startled to see you. I didn’t think you would be there.”
“You would have ran a mile, I guess.- Elijah joked a little.
“Come on, I was not - awful to you”
“No. But you have been quite dismissive.”- Elijah reminded her.
“Well -oh, please- don’t remind me. But - you also - stepped back - but -Ok- enough of talking anyway- just one more thing- how strange was it that the thing with the book??"
"Coincidence"- Elena uttered.
"I don't know. Coincidence, serendipity- call it what you want- it kicked me into gear - though- you know that Caroline and pretty much all my siblings were plotting to bring us together? "
"Oh, I can imagine Caroline doing something like this, but - your siblings- seriously? Nah"
"Yes. All of them were involved in the plot to bring us together"- Elijah nodded confirming it was so.
They chatted some more about the plot and that he, himself, wanted to surprise her in the ski resort. And in between more kisses, they talked about life, about why they held back, touching the heavy subject of Hayley.
"I was so reckless - and- oh, God- I only married her because she was pregnant. Sometimes I think that deserved to be punished. Don't really deserve all this - you loving me- I am not such a great guy"-Elijah sighed, looking down, going all serious and dark.
"Hey, stop it."- Elena now took him by the chin, making him look at her - "you made mistakes. I made mistakes. Most important is that you learned from them."
"Oh, I have learned. I have been so lost. And - after Hayley’s death - I - it shook me profoundly. It put so much in perspective. The person I became after M.J. left me - oh, I was such a jerk. I don’t know what made you fall for me  "- Elijah said.
“Let’s see - well -under that smouldering exterior - there was a sweet and good person. The amount of pro bono you did- you always assisted the young associates, and you never made anyone feel unwelcome. Helping us with the Bar exam- no one in the office would have done what you did for the people who started in the Firm. And I knew about M.J.”
“You did? How? Nobody knew about it - Klaus had just told Caroline a few months ago.”- Elijah looked at Elena baffled.
”I heard Rebekah talk to Klaus about it once when she came to the office. I wasn’t eavesdropping. I had to take some papers to him and - there they were talking about it. Sorry.”
“It’s all right. I - just - was so in love with her - and she”
“She walked all over you.”- Elena finished the sentence.
“Yes.”- Elijah said and then sighed- “and then I - kind of froze my heart like you did.”
“Like Gerda did Kai’s”- Elena said.
“Excuse me?”
“The Snow Queen.”- Elena now pointed over to the book that was on the coffee table.
“I’m sorry, but I never read it.”- Elijah said.
“Well, it’s a great read. But - now - I really don’t want to do any more talking or reading”
“No?”
“No.”- Elena now leaned over to Elijah and she gasped as his soft lips captured hers now, causing her body to flush with heat, that travelled through everfacet of her being. Straddling him now, Elijah’s hands tangled in her long, dark silky hair, pulling her lightly to him, adding more pressure to their lips, deepening the kiss. As they parted she saw his eyes sparkle into hers, and his lips curled up a smile. Elena smiled back now, whispering - "My room is on the left."
Elijah nodded and now walked them to the bedroom.
Letting her down on the bed, softly, he gave her a small kiss now slipping- "Are you sure?"
"I am so very sure- and you?"
Elijah nodded with a little gulp.
"But we can - talk more about serendipity if you want?" - Elena teased-"if you -"
But his lips covering hers now stopped her from talking further.
___
A couple of months later
“I am proposing today. It is all set.”- Elijah said to Klaus as she gave him the call about their visit to Toronto.
In the background, he could hear Caroline screetching extatically.
“I am on loudspeaker, I take it”- Elijah said then.
“I am sorry - I pressed it wrong when you picked up - and she just walked in the apartment.”- Klaus apologized.
“Where - what - what have you planned? Why didn’t you tell us anything?”- Caroline now spoke.
“I am not doing anything particular - just maybe - something.”- Elijah said.
“Something? Please, tell me it is romantic - Elena loves romantic”
“I know.”- Elijah said, and continued -” In the Mimico Waterfront Park, there was a gazebo with a wonderful view on the lake. We often go there for run, for walks, sit with little Jenna.”
Later that afternoon
The florist put the last of the flower decorations and saying bye to Elijah, wished him good luck.
Putting little Jen on the bench, he now picked up his phone. And just as he wanted to dial Elena’s number, Jen pointed to Elena -
“Mommy”
Elijah turned and now saw Elena standing still not far from the gazebo, completely gobsmacked. Putting his phone back in the pocket, he now met her at the halfway to the gazebo.
“What is this?”
“Just - a gazebo - with flowers - and uhm- I thought that - you might like it”
“Might like it -? You did this?”
“I did this.”- Elijah now said as they walked inside the gazebo-”Because there is something I wanted to ask you - and -”- Elijah now gulped.
Jen stood up and walked to her mom. Elena gave the girl a hug and a kiss.
As the girl went back to the bench, sitting back on it, Elena turned to Elijah.
“Ask me- what?”- Elena took a small breath, knowing full well that all this was not just a random thing.
Elijah now got the box with the ring out of his pocket and opening it, knelt down -
“Will you marry me?”
Tears of joy now welled up in Elena’s eyes, and she nodded over and over again, finally uttering a big yes.
The sun, the sea, all  spread such splendour all around as Elijah put the engagement ring on her finger.
Elena whispered in his ears as she wrapped her arms around his neck with love-
"When I'm with you there's no place I'd rather be!! I so love you!!"
He whispered back at her- "And I love you!!"
****
The wedding was not a small affair, and Caroline and Rebekah stood as the maids of honour, and Klaus and Kol as the best men. They honeymooned in Europe- starting from the French Riviera, Italy, finishing the trip around Greek islands.
At one point in the trip, Caroline and Klaus joined them. They loved having their friends and family with them for a long weekend in Rome.
"It so feels like I am in a dream - some days. Then I wake up and he is there, sleeping next to me. And he loves me!"- Elena said to Caroline in one of their chats as they took time for themselves after the shopping.
"Believe it!"- Caroline said- "and you look so good together."
"You know - he is my soulmate- we can talk about anything, joke about anything, and we are finishing each other's sentences and even before he says something I know what he wants just by the way of his look."
"You two are like two peas in a pod!"- Caroline concluded.
***
Life was good. And they truly were like two peas in a pod. Even when they were choosing to buy a house. Nothing big. A nice family house, which they both decorated with loads of love.
And finally, there was one anniversary they celebrated extra specially. And it was at Christmas, when Elijah surprised Elena travelling all the way to Toronto to tell her that he loved.
And so this particular Christmas, after they had put the lights on the bare tree in the garden, they walked back in the house to open the presents, with little Jenna being first in undoing all the wrapping with both their help.
"This is yours"- Elena passed a little package to Elijah.
He shook it- but there was no particular noise.
"What is it?"- he joked.
"Open it- and you will find out. It is a surprise!"- Elena said smiling.
Elijah ripped the wrapping off and opened the small box and there was an envelope in it.
He looked at Elena trying to get the clue from her eyes and all he could read a happy sparkle-
"Open it!"- Elena now said impatiently.
"Right"- he said and opened the envelope- taking a paper out with the results stating that Elena was expecting a baby.
"You're pregnant!!"- he exclaimed now with the same sparkle in his eyes pulling her into a hug.
"Yes! We're pregnant!!"- Elena said holding him tight-"I just- I wanted to make it a surprise."
"And everything is fine? Sorry-I just- you know"- Elijah said, and Elena knew what he was referring to.
"I know! Yes, everything is fine!"- Elena confirmed now brushing away a tear from his eye.
"I love you!"- he exclaimed.
"Love you, too!!"- she pulled him in a hug again.
The happiness were complete. And Caroline had to assure them over and over again that they were good and compassionate people that deserved it all.
The End
P.S. It was a baby boy, and a couple of years later another girl. Well, the Mikaelsons always had a big family-

_________
That evening
Elijah got in the Whitmore diner, where Klaus and Kol waited for him already.
"Where are you? Last night you bailed on us! Today, you're not answering any calls?"- Klaus said-"wearing a suit? Did someone die?"
Elijah took his tie off and putting it in the jacket pocket answered Klaus -
"Yes, someone died, but this is not why I am wearing a suit. I got a job. Hey, it's good to see you, Kol."
"Same here, mate."- Kol said.
"A job?"- Klaus now cut in.
"Yes."- Elijah confirmed.
The waitress, who was their friend from school days came now to them and they ordered some food before he continued telling his cousins how it all came about.
"What's the job?"- Kol as asked.
"Driving. A chauffer's job"- Elijah replied.
"What?"- Klaus couldn't believe it-"you said you will never do that!"
"I know, but this is - different."- Elijah said.
"Different? How? You didn't say you are looking for anything? You could have worked at the garage."
"As what?"- Elijah said-"I am no mechanic."
"True."- Klaus said-" but - we would think of something. Anyway, who is it for? And how is this different?"
Elijah now told all that had happened the night before, how he met Y/N, and all that had occurred since.
"You are kidding me?"- Klaus couldn't believe the extraordinary story.
"Y/N- wow!"- Kol said.
At that moment, Davina got in, and as they were sitting in the first booth, she heard Kol's exclaiming.
"Y/N- what?"- Davina said sittind down next to her brother-"- her look wide-eyed awaiting an answer.
"He is driving Miss Y/N "- Klaus replied before Elijah could.
"This is a joke, right?"- Davina could not believe what she was hearing,
"I am."- Elijah now said.
How, what, when - questions ensued again. And Elijah had to explain to his sister how it all came about.
"This is wild!"- Davina was elated-"OMG! I got to call Monique!"
She got her phone out and immediately texted her friend. Her friend called her right back and Davina now went out to take the call.
Klaus and Elijah exchanged looks as to say - Davina's gone nuts.
What no one noticed was Kol,staring at a woman the moment she walked in the diner. It was Bonnie Bennett, her friend from college. He had not seen her for years. Now, his heart kicked a flatter, seeing her looking gorgeous. He now made an excuse that he had to go to the bathroom.
“What’s up with him?”- Elijah asked as he had noticed Kol’s odd behaviour.
Klaus waved it off as he didn’t know. He now went off telling Elijah about the blonde goddess he had been with last night.
Returning from the bathroom, Kol stopped at the booth, Bonnie now sat down at greeting her.
“Kol? Hey- how are you?”- Bonnie said cheerfully.
“I’m good. How are you? What are you doing - here?”
“Ahm- my boyfriend is from here. We are visiting his parents.”- Bonnie replied.
“Your boyfriend?”
“Yeah. Kai Parker.”
“Kai is your boyfriend?”- Kol said with a tad of surprise and disappointment in his voice. He had the loathing cleverly behind his eyes. He now saw Kai walk in, and not wanting to meet up with him he now said see you around maybe to Bonnie and went to join his brother and his cousin.
Both Elijah and Klaus now asked him why his mood was suddenly so very off. He now told them about Bonnie, and her date.
“Haven’t seen him here for ages. Or any of his sisters.”- Klaus said.
“I can’t believe she is with him.”- Kol now said.
“Seriously, what’s up with you and her?”- Elijah now asked.
“Nothing. I just fancied her like hell in college, but she always managed to be with one or the other jerk”- Kol replied.
“And never gave you the time of day”- Klaus now remarked.
“Anyway, what’s up with you and Greta?”
“We broke up.”- Kol said-”she wanted to go to California, and I just was not up for leaving at the West Coast.”- Kol explained-”can we talk about something else? Tell us more about Y/N”
“There is nothing to tell”- Elijah said tucking into his food.
“Oh, come on. You can do better than that”- Klaus now said.
“As I said. There is nothing to tell.”
Hayley Marshall now walked in the diner and Klaus now remarked-
“Here is trouble.”
The brunette now seeing the brothers and her ex strolled up to them, greeting the bunch. And the way she was, she sat down next to Klaus and started chatting to them as if they welcomed her presence.
All three of them were happy to see Davina return and one bye one they excused themselves and left the diner. But before Elijah could escape, she kind of grabbed him by the hand asking him out for a drink.
“Yeah, maybe”- Elijah said and swaying his look to his sister, telling her not to stay out long he went.
A bit later in his apartment, Elijah laid down in his bed, thinking of only one woman. Y/N. Wondering how she was doing, as he left her all sad.
💘
The next day, Elijah arrived at the Gilbert house half an hour before the agreed time.
A woman walked out of the house, now greeting the driver.
"Y/N said that you should wait for her inside. She will not be ready yet. She has an emergency conference call."
Elijah nodded a little and followed the woman into the house.
"I am Rose."- the woman said.
"Elijah Mikaelson."
"I know. Nice to meet you."
Aiden, who had arrived quite early that morning already, now got out of the study and greeted Elijah. Rose now left the two, as Isobel had already demanded Rose come to her aid.
"So, sorry about this."- Aiden said to Elijah-"but, can't let her go, before she talks to the Belgians. You, have a cup of coffee or some refreshments. Oh, and- whenever she let's you go today, please call me so we can talk her schedule for the next week. It is completely changed."
"Ok, I will."- Elijah said.
Y/N now appeared at the door of the study, wandering where Aiden got to.
"Hello"- she said to Elijah seeing him there with Joel- "Sorry, we are running late. But, I will be ready as soon as we wrap this up."
"Hello."- Elijah said back-"it's all right. I'll be - in the kitchen."
"Thank you."- Y/N said and now swaying her look at Aiden that said please hurry, went back to the study.
"Kitchen?"- Elijah asked Aiden.
"Down the corridor to the end. On the left. Mary makes the most divine  mini cinammon rolls."
Elijah was like- Mary, who? Aiden told him that he will find out. And so, Elijah ventured to the kitchen.
Mary was the family's cook. And she greeted Elijah like she knew him forever.
"Sit down. Coffee? Black with milk."
"How did you know that?"- Elijah asked.
"Never mind how I know things. Hungry?"- Mary said.
"No, not really."- Elijah replied.
"Two eggs and bacon?"- Mary continued.
"Thank you, but I was told that we will be leaving soon to wherever Ms Y/S is going."- Elijah replied.
"It will take a while till Y/N is ready."- Mary said.
"I thought that she is always on schedule."- Elijah was confused.
"Yes. That is when life doesn't throw you a kick in the gut."- Mary said.
"I don't quite understand."
Mary now served him the coffee and continued- "Ms Y/S as you called her, is juggling her mother, the news that she got engaged, which is all over the news, as well as trying to have the factory run smoothly. They are not even letting her grieve."
"She had a special connection with - Alaric? I’m sorry but I don’t know who he was”
"The family's butler. He came when Y/N was a little girl. And yes, they had a special connection. You see, her father worked all day and night to get the business going, and whenever she really needed a parent to talk to, Alaric has always been there for her."- Mary explained.
"I understand."- Elijah now said.
The way Mary now looked at Elijah, like she was sizing him up, which made Elijah say-
"Is something wrong?"
"No. Everything is just right."- Mary said-"she will be fine."
"Excuse me?"
"Nevermind me. How about a brunch?"
Elijah sighed a little and agreed to it.
💘
Elsewhere
Klaus' garage, Whitmore
Caroline, who has always been a person living the life to the max, didn't waste her time or waited for the life to come to her. She would always grab it. She now parked her grandfather's oldtimer right in front of the garage. Marcel, one of Klaus' men, now greeted her as she got in, looking for Klaus.
Klaus now got from the little office and greeted the blonde.
"How can I help you?"- Klaus said in his charming smirky way.
"I was wondering if you could service it?"- Caroline said pointed to the car-"I heard that you are the best."
"Am I?"- Klaus said.
"Well, the guys from the bar think so. If it is not so I can always take it somewhere else."
"I will look at it."
Klaus now went to the car, admiring it-
"Classic Pontiac GTO. 1968. A beauty."
"So, you can look at it? It makes a strange sound when I change gears."
"Let's test drive it and see what is wrong with it?"- Klaus said.
"Let's."- Caroline accepted with a smirky smile.
"Marcel. Hold the fort. I won't be long."- Klaus said as he got in the car, accompanied with Caroline.

At the Gilbert' house
An hour or so after Elijah had arrived, Y/N finally got out of the study with Aiden. And before she could escape to the kitchen, her mother got her in the corridor now asking her about Lucien and the engagment as it was all over social media.
"I really don't want to talk about it now. Aiden will deal with that."
"Ok. Have you decided who will take over running the house?"- Isobel asked.
"No. But Rose is willing to do the job for now, until we find someone. I have to go now, mom."
"Yes. You always have somewhere to go to."- Isobel was complaining-"how will I manage everything?"
Y/N wanted to scream that she never had managed anything, but she kept quite and now apologized and went to the kitchen.
Elijah got up from the chair at the island as Y/N walked in.
"I am so sorry that you had to wait for such a long time. We can go."- Y/N said.
"Right."- Elijah said.
"Ok. We can get out here."- Y/N said and indicated they exit through the kitchen back door. She went out first, and Elijah followed her.
Mary, who was at the cooker preparing the dinner, noticed the very interesting dynamic between the two and smiled a little. Aiden, who now got into the kitchen, for the famous mini rolls, having noticed the cooks smile said-
"I think that you are thinking what I am thinking."
Mary now turned to the assistant- "I have never heard her apologize to any other driver for waiting for her."
"Exactly. Caroline told me that- but you have to keep this to yourself- they met under very unusual circumstances in Whitmore."
"No gossip, please. Y/N is not like Caroline. No matter, how much I like Caroline, she is way too much of a free spirit."- Mary said-"but what of this engagement?"
"Let's not even go there. I have a feeling that the Doctor Disaster felt that she was slipping away."- Aiden said-"I hope she falls for our Mr Gorgeous."
"Let's hope."- Mary said-"He is such a sweet young man."- the cook referred to Elijah.
"He is a dish."- Aiden said-"All right I got to go and work."
Aiden now left as well.
💘
An hour later, Y/N and Elijah arrived at the place outside of the city. It was an old people's home. Y/N spent a little while inside, and as she got out, she said to Elijah -
"Can we go somewhere- anywhere. I just don't want to go home just yet. And I got my phone if Aiden calls."
"Yes, we can. What did you have in mind? Do you want to eat something or-?"
"Yes. I am hungry a bit."- Y/N replied.
"Ok. I know a place."- Elijah said and remembered a small fish place on the beach a couple miles away.
It was a nice Seafood Schack and Grill that his father used to take them when they were kids.
"This is great."- Y/N said as they got to the place.
"They have fresh produce and it's- family friendly. I loved coming here. Every summer he would take us here. We would spend a day on the beach. "
The way Elijah spoke about it, said what a great time he must have had there.
"Do you mind if I take the suit jacket off?"- Elijah then said.
"Yes. Sure. Oh, this is not right. I should not be - taking your time -"- Y/N said suddenly realizing that they stepped over the line of employer and employee-"maybe we should go back."
"Why? I thought you were hungry?"- Elijah said.
"Yes, but - it's not right that you spend time with me - I mean- this is not work. This is - me- usurping -"
"Y/N- can I call you, Y/N?"- Elijah now said.
"Yes."
"The last couple of days were not exactly easy for you and- I completely understand if you want to escape for an afternoon- and I don't mind- "- he stopped there for a second trying to gather his thoughts-"You are not usurping my time. On the contrary- we- if you want- this can be like- two friends went out of the town- for an afternoon."
Y/N now smiled a little-"Ok. So- friend- what do you recommend?"
"Grilled fish. Sea bass. Salad. A glass of white wine. Simple."- Elijah said.
"Excellent."- Y/N was happy.
They got in the Grill, and they had exactly what Elijah suggested. And all during the meal they shared stories about their childhood as if they were friends that were going down the memory lane.
A bit later, as they finished with the food they went down the beach for a little walk. It was an afternoon of real escape, for both of them. They were not a rich woman from the Falls, and he was not the ordinary guy from Whitmore. Just Elijah and Y/N.
Come and take a trip on my rocket ship We'll have a lovely afternoon Kiss the world goodbye and away we'll fly Destination moon Travel fast as light 'til we're lost from sight The earth is like a toy balloon What a thrill you get riding on a jet Destination moon We'll go up, up, up, up Straight to the moon we two High in the starry blue I'll be out of this world with you And away we steal in a space mobile A supersonic honeymoon Leave your cares below, pull the switch, let's go Destination moon
It was like they were both on the moon. Y/N did pull the switch. She didn't know when it was the last she left all her cares behind.
"And this is how you became a race driver?"- Y/N said.
"Yes. Just like that. They thought that I was born to do it. I signed the contract and- there I was."- Elijah said as he finished telling  Y/N how he became an Indy car race driver."
"It's great to do what you dream of doing?"- Y/N said.
"Don't you? I thought that the factory is your passion?"
"Well, it- the new recipes and the whole process of getting a new product, but- everything else- making deals and always trying to be on top of everything. It- it sometimes- too much. But I am not complaining. It's just- Caroline is right - sometimes I just need to take time for myself. So, I want to thank you for this- for today- it was - really a great day. "
"I am glad that you had a great time- Y/N-"
And there they were- Elijah's eyes delightfully probed right into Y/N's.
