Fortunately, neither of them had to wait long-June and Wilhelm, unable to sleep on account of their son's absence, had been sitting up wide awake in the living room, and were thus able to run to the door when they heard Emily's call. June threw open the door, and Randall, in an effort to stand on his own two feet, moved to collapse against her, mumbling, "Ma...Emily...saved me..."
"What?"
"She didn't...hurt me..." he continued, voice strained as he spoke-even through the haze of pain hanging over him, he wanted to make it as clear as possible that Emily saved his life. "Got mugged...she saved me..."
"Shh, shh, don't speak," she soothed, her expression uncertain as she looked between her badly battered son and the vampire standing on the front porch. She wasn't sure what to say, but for now, she settled for bringing Randall inside, asking Wilhelm to bring her the first aid kit, something he rushed to do, sparing an equally uncertain look towards Emily as he hurried upstairs.
Once he'd had a chance to lie down and recover, letting his mother tend to his wounds, Randall was able to explain the full story of what had transpired that evening-how Emily had coming seemingly out of nowhere to rescue him, opting not to drain his attackers, but instead give them a good scare before rushing him home.
"And she didn't...bite you...?" Wilhelm asked, keeping his voice low as Randall took a deep drink from his water glass, saying, "No, Pa, she didn't." She had every opportunity to do so, but she didn't. He hoped that would be enough to change their minds about her, as he ventured to ask:
"Can you...can you please bring her in?"
At this request, his parents exchanged a nervous look-should they? Would she turn vengeful as soon as she crossed that threshold? The look in their son's eyes said no...
...but that was a painful concept in itself, as it meant that they had been wrong about her all this time...
Swallowing back their worries, June gave her husband a curt little nod, and so, with some hesitance, some lingering uncertainty, Wilhelm slowly opened the front door, letting Emily into their home once more.

it has been so weird getting into live action film in the past little while because prior to late 2023 i was basically only into video games, comics, and cartoons (i have pretty bad face blindness so i can find it difficult to follow live action movies, especially if characters have similar hair or clothes. top gun maverick was a NIGHTMARE for me), and now i'm like? recognizing actors? it's kind of weird to think that when i'm my parents age kids aren't going to know who. chris evans or like. finn wolfhard are. and i'm going to do the exact same thing my parents always do like "what? you don't know who chris evans is? he's only captain america!" and the kid is going to be like... "why would i know who captain america is...? that movie came out before i was even born... no one cares about captain america these days gramps" and then i'll go to bingo or something and cry about it.

rant incoming: persuasion 2022
saw the netflix trailer for an adaptation of persuasion and i am Not Ok D:
persuasion is one of my fav novels and to see such a terrible-looking film adaptation just...hurts me. like?? who is this woman?? SHE'S anne? quiet, compassionate, tender anne?? long-suffering, guilt-ridden, well-read anne? anne who helps a man heal from heartache by being a good friend, talking to him and giving book recs?? anne who looks after her injured nephew so his parents can go out for the evening?? anne who was the ONLY ONE to remain calm and take charge of helping louisa when she fell??
that anne would not paint jam on her face or spill gravy on her head!! she is not a manic pixie dream girl or a wine aunt!! she is everyone's confidant, everyone's mediator, everyone's helper. she is kind and thoughtful and patient!! how can a single trailer convince me so thoroughly that whoever wrote/directed this film never read an austen novel in their life?? or at least never understood it!! i just!!! it's not??? that hard???
wentworth, what little there is of him in the trailer, seems a bit dull, which sucks--wentworth is probably the second-best male lead in all of austen's works, he has only slightly less character development than darcy imo, and his love letter to anne is so fucking romantic. there's nothing of his playful, lively manner in the trailer. he looks bland, and anne looks obnoxious, and everything looks slightly...off. the clothes, the colours, everything!! is this film trying to be bridgerton (derogatory)??? i appreciate that from what i could see in the trailer, the cast is not all white (which is the only good thing bridgerton ((slightly less derogatory)) does, otherwise it has absolutely nothing redeemable about it and i HATE IT AND I WILL RAGE--ahem sorry) bc a lot of times the way england is portrayed in adaptations like this is ignorantly ahistorical at best and outright prejudiced at worst, but that's not enough to justify this film being an adaptation of a well-known and well-loved novel!!
i'm not saying i don't want jane austen adaptations--i do!! i WANT them!! they made my gay little heart so happy and fluttery when i was a teenager!! i learnt a bunch of old songs from around austen's time just bc i wanted to know what music she and her characters would have listened to!! i read books by ann radcliffe bc the mysteries of udolpho was referenced in northanger abbey!! i can fucking EMBROIDER, DAMMIT!! i, a dumb teenager, took an interest in history bc of stories that i love----and this film is NO '''adaptation''' of ANY of those stories. UGH!!
(ps if u want to see a GOOD adaptation, the bbc or granada or someone made several series back in the 70s and 80s, which were imperfect but still MUCH better. the three best ones were persuasion, pride & prejudice, and sense & sensibility. if u can get past the lil flaws here and there, i think u'll find them a more rewarding experience than this shite!! D:<)
