#Hypothetical discourse

I think we're starting to dilute the meaning of "terminally online". Like, no, it's not terminally online to have eccentric opinions about a popular TV show – people like that existed before "online" was a thing. Unless we're talking at least an "it's homophobic for gay furries to have rat fursonas because they're depicting gay people as vermin", the onlineness falls well short of terminal.

my eternal take on literature discourse is that we would all be a lot happier and more well-read if we remembered the Rights of the Reader
Tumblr media
specifically the very last bit, which reads 'Don't make fun of people who don't read - or they never will'

If Madoka Magica was released in 2014-2017, you'd have tags like #pmmmcritical containing unhinged and opinionated discourse posts like: "Unfriendly fucking reminder to STOP fucking joking about He/ad/less Ma//mi because her death fucking TRAUMATIZED Mad//oka and Sa//yaka and you're a monster if you think a 15-year-old getting decapitated by a witch in front of her friends and giving them PTSD is funny", alongside various random posts rabidly hating on Kyubey or Madoka's little brother.

Elves are such an odd concept. Like, if I was a human in a world where some people get to live for centuries and I won't. At the bare minimum, I wouldn't be having more short lived children. The implications of this are only concerning because some people in the real world do legitimately believe that minute differences in ethnicity justify eugenics if not outright ethnic cleansing. But in a world where elves existed honestly I would hope my own species goes extinct.
Some takeaways:
Elves don't exist
If elves existed, nazis would still see them as inferior somehow because it's not about actual ethnic superiority
Elves existing would still not justify ethnic cleansing, forced sterilization or even most if not all forms of eugenics
If nazism needs a universe like Warhammer 40k to justify itself it kinda shows how ridiculous of an ideology it is in the real world
Hottest take:
Gattaca is a fine movie in other ways but if you have children who will die at the elf equivalent of 20 years that's no different than having real life kids when you know they'll die at literally 20 years old because of a genetic disease.

The tumblr queer community discourse is like the physics when you get down to the subatomic level and everything just goes wonky and stops making sense and none of the normal rules apply anymore.

Just found out about the transunitism tag and I'm having a ball seeing posts from trans people that don't want other trans people dead for arbitrary reasons

I want to reply to the anonymous who suggested Finn and Noah might kiss to 'practise' beforehand.
This is not only very unlikely, but highly unprofessional. The actors aren't on a date, and it's their job. That may seem unglamorous or unexciting, but this is the odd paradox of acting. It's called acting for a reason.
Anon did say they would be in character when practising, but this is still very unlikely unless in a professional rehearsal environment. For example, it is very likely that there will be highly technical rehearsal about movement, camera angles, what the audience can see, and they may kiss for this. But it's still the job.
That's not to say that real feelings cannot be involved. Serious actors, focused on their craft, will say they want to become, not perform. So yes, they will put everything they have into the role, and that includes really feeling the kissing scenes and nudity scenes. However, the feelings, as intense as they are, are funnelled into story and character, and must end when the scene does.
This is quite an odd thing and it's no wonder many actors struggle with compartmentalisation and boundaries, especially without training. The actors in ST are quite young, so they may have spoken on the subject of learning this but I'm not sure. It's much easier with formal training to disconnect.
We are human and things affect us. The key is to manage that and be in control of it. Sadly there is little pastoral care and no traditional HR dept in show business, so much of it falls to the actor to set their own boundaries.
Sorry to burst anyone's bubble. I enjoy this blog and don't mind questions about the actors in real life, but wanted to make sure it doesn't get too fantastical when it comes to that discussion.
Thank you.
very interesting counter-points!

are people really acting like the dark urge origin getting a few more lines to separate their dynamic with gortash from tav & other origins is somehow to blame for other act 3 storylines remaining incomplete?

guys I don't think a petition to make a character canonically queer makes sense

There is negative chance that Alex would actually do it (in fact I'd actually be fine if he DIDN'T for Very Specific Reasons) but it'd be really funny if he canonized Bill being like fourteen. Like he just came out and said 'Oh yeah, that triangle's actually, like, a fetus'.

this kind of shit annoys me like idk how to phrase it but i think its actually perfectly fine to dislike landlords for being lazy if youre working your arse off to pay rent and they. arent. Obviously the idea of laziness is like a product of capitalism to make ppl feel bad about not working hard enough blahblahblah but i mean just on a basic level, people are toiling in the retail/amazon mines to earn a pittance that then goes to your landlord who has done fuck all to earn that. They literally get to be "lazy" BECAUSE of your hard work its a privilege. Am paying this cunts mortgage for him am allowed to call him lazy
also people working 40 hour weeks in 'unskilled' jobs, get called lazy/told to get a "real job" all the time as well LMAO why are we dying for landlord rights. Like yes if we lived in the dreamworld were we'd moved past the very concept of laziness and disentangled peoples worth from the amount pf work they do this would be different but we uh dont. It's actually praxis to tell landlords to get a job in mcdonalds

As someone who has only been around for Cr2+Cr3. I have somehow, luckily and against all odds, never had a single PC that I've actively disliked. Including guest characters. Like even Yu and Bor'dor despite being very much "against the party", I still 100% enjoyed and find objectively interesting.
However it also means I get a little sad any time I'm exposed to character hate in the tags. Cuz like, for certain characters I know they're intentionally complicated and difficult and make bad/wrong/obnoxious decisions. So seeing "criticisms" that are just chalked up to "why is this character complicated and making wrong decisions, it's obnoxious." my brain can't connect to empathize with that point of view. I'm too objective. That's the whole point, it makes complete sense so it's not even really a criticism it's just. Being annoyed about a thing that was meant to be kinda annoying.
