Hi! I’m CatboyBiologist.

Formerly a femboy, now a trans woman just starting HRT, and a PhD student in molecular biology. I started using this online persona as a fun, shitposty way to explore gender a few years ago. I post selfies (generally sfw, but somewhat sexy, so minors and ppl who don’t like that have been warned), rambles about science, tutorials and advice from the stuff I’ve learned by being a femboy in the past, nature pictures, stuff about the ocean, my adorable grumpy little tortoise, and unsolicited opinions on random nerdy topics. Any pronouns are fine. I don’t plan to socially transition for a while, and still present as a man most of the time, so I’m used to whatever you wanna use for me (for now, I’ll update this if that changes). Please send me pictures of your pets or other cute animals in your life!

As a scientist, I’m also documenting my transition! This google sheet will be updated at least monthly. I also have additional metrics I’m keeping to myself, and pictures that go with this, but I’m not sharing them publicly yet. Keep in mind that this is just one person’s experience with HRT, and may not represent universal trends!

Adding a little something here, bc I think it was an interesting bit a writing: if you want to see me respond to a transphobe about what "biologically female" means, here's a thing I wrote about it. CW for transphobia and discussion, obviously.

As for terminology, I personally do think of myself as a “man who is becoming a woman” as opposed to having always been a woman. If that doesn’t resonate with your experience, I totally get that! But that’s why I freely call pre-HRT me a femboy, while still calling post-HRT me a trans woman. I’m also keeping the blog name as CatboyBiologist for the forseeable future, because at this point, Catboy just seems like a gender neutral term to me.

I’m also trying to put together a script for a podcast regarding how studying biology influenced my perspective on sex and gender- lmk if there’s any interest in that! It’s probably gonna be way too long and indulgent but oh well.

Thought I'd post about the latest lesbophobic hate crime since it's looking like a lot of powerful people are trying to make this go away:

In Hong Kong on the 2nd June a lesbian couple were brutally stabbed to death by a man in a shopping centre. The couple, 26yo Fang Xiaotong and 22yo Liu Jixi, who had recently moved in together and were on their way to dinner with Liu's family, were accosted by the 39yo man.

The man snuck up on them from behind and began repeatedly stabbing Fang Xiaotong with a 12 inch long sashimi knife. Liu Jixi tried to intervene, repeatedly tackling, hitting and kicking the man and trying to drag Fang's bloodied body away from him. He would slash at her with the knife and then return to stabbing Fang's prone body. The footage is extremely disturbing. Both Fang and Liu died from their injuries.

Following the attack the man stood over Fang's body as she bled out and just waited calmly for police to arrive. During this time a random man picked up a stool and stood in the murderer's proximity, so naturally he's being proclaimed the hero of the situation instead of Liu Jixi who literally threw herself at the knife over and over again trying to save her girlfriend.

Initially local Chinese media outlets reported Fang Xiaotong and Liu Jixi as a couple (see these archived links for evidence, it's in Chinese but Google translate will help you). However Chinese authorities have now released statements that they were 'just friends' and so all evidence of their relationship is currently being scrubbed from the media. Western media has followed the lead and in the very few stories on the case the lesbian couple are always referred to as 'friends'.

Additionally the police seem to be trying to garner sympathy for the murderer by framing him as mentally ill (lol who cares) and that the attack was just random and not a lesbophobic hate crime (which if you watch the footage, that is absolutely not the case, out of the whole crowd of people he picked the butch lesbian and just kept laying into her and only her, this was definitely a targeted hate crime).

So in conclusion; as is often the case with lesbophobic hate crimes this is being made to disappear. However in this instance there is plenty of evidence and footage of what really happened. Authorities are urging people not to watch or share the footage because it's disturbing, and that's exactly why you should watch and share it. This is the disturbing reality for most lesbians around the world. It adds insult to injury when these types of lesbophobic hate crimes are covered up, watered down and made more palatable (i.e. non-existent) to the heterosexual masses.

The deliberate erasure of lesbophobia is why we have a LGBTQIA2SSP++ movement that thinks the letters are arranged in order of societal privilege. They have to erase the experiences of lesbians to maintain their fantasy world, and we gotta start making it harder for them to do that by shoving reality in their face. Even if that reality is gruesome.

(as an aside the TRA movement is already getting their meat hooks into this bc Fang Xiaotong's English name is Daniel, but it's common for Chinese butch lesbians to choose a male English name, and it's not necessarily an indication of 'trans', especially when all of Fang's friends and relatives know her as a lesbian woman, but TRAs gotta narrate the lesbophobia out of this somehow🤷‍♀️)

In any case, I think it's important to share the truth of this hate crime and the lesbian couple who were targeted. The footage of Fang Xiaotong and Liu Jixi's murders is difficult but important to watch, if only to see how this man specifically targeted Fang Xiaotong and to witness Liu Jixi's bravery in trying to save her girlfriend when no one else would.

You can see the footage of this hate crime here (at least before some heterosexual gets it scrubbed from Twitter). Do be warned though, this ain't no dude getting misgendered at a cafe, this is what an actual hate crime looks like.

Hey that might be a dumb question you probably have good reasons to believe that but how do you know LEQ is male ? She doesn't strike me as much different from the average female TRA, granted I've never interacted with her directly. But like... is it just a hunch or do you KNOW it's a guy ?

So. I'm still new to radical feminism and still in the middle of my peak trans, so I'm trying to be careful with my critical thinking and tonight I genuinely wondered about that injunction that feminism must by default ve trans inclusive. Because does it, really? What do trans people actually bring on the table for feminism? Or are they only beneficiary/exploitative of feminism without bringing on anything in return but misogynistic anon hate? I wondered "hey, if "trans women are women" is a true statement, then what is statistically the involvement of trans women in women's rights? In abortion's rights? In thing that allegedly concern womanhood even if it doesn't concern them personally?"

Because I'm a lesbian and chances are I'll never need an abortion in my whole life. Hell, due to personal reasons, I'd have more chances to want to keep my pregnancy going if I had to have one because I might not be able handle abortion psychologically. Yet, I'm fighting for every woman to be able to have an abortion, to have that choice. Even if more likely than not it doesn't effect me as an individual as much as it effects me as a woman. Because women always have to bear the weight of all the women's rights anyway, we get little privileges in terms of individuation in comparison to men. So I wondered -genuinely, in good faith- if trans women were feeling the weight of this as well or if it was going to be full male "not my problem, don't care" entitlement. And ladies. Let me offer some more exhibit (I swear these are all the first results I had for TWO different wordings on Google):

So let's do the midnight/mushbrain quick unpacking of this :

- No stats

- No arguments, we're supposed to accept trans women benefit feminism because They Said So™

- Lots of vitriolic takes on anyone questioning it ("cruel" "appropriative of the rhetoric of women's rights" that "inflict life-threatening harm on trans people"-lol-, "narrowly interpreting a statement", "bigoted", "anti feminist", weakening feminism)

- Many of those are made by trans women and also denying biological reality [not surprising, BUT an argument of TRAs is that most trans people believe in bio sex...despite hating radfems, somehow]

- It's so focused on pushing the trans activism, trying to prove that trans women don't have male privileges (an idea in these examples often defended by...other males) and that uwu but transwomen experience misogyny too uwu + trying so hard to prove us that there's no threat to women's rights here whatsoever. Nope. None. Please, look elsewhere. That it doesn't answer my question directly.

And by that lack of answer I ironically found it. It's male centered. It's gaslighting us in believing women's rights are ok and NEED trans activism (cause women need saviors and haven't been handling feminism themselves on their own and under hatred all of these centuries, y'know /s?). Nobody cares about women's rights here. It's not based on facts, it's all based on the fact we should blindly believe what TiM say. That including them will benefit us somehow and that it's not male violence because they identify as women so they allegedly can't reproduce male violence. All that while packaging disagreement from female feminists in diverse degrees of insults and misogyny and misinformation...say again how there's no trans agenda here and how it's not like, oh, I don't know, literal male entitlement and narcissism?

Man PinkNews really can't stay away from Jo for too long lol, they're back at it again with more slander, this time with a supposed like of a pretty offensive tweet. And as always people are eating it all up.

Now I went to check and that supposed like wasn't there which makes me think it's fake(either that or much like few years ago when she liked and then unliked that one tweet-I forget what was it about, and if her like was real then it could be the same case again, an acidental like).

But like, I really don't get these people...I get it, they hate her, but why make up stuff? Is it cause perhaps normies are waking up and seeing that Jo isn't this evil person the likes of PinkNews and TRAs are trying to paint her as...it's so weird.

Well they can't exactly go and talk about anything wrong she would have actually done, can they, since when you look up what Jo really does with her money it's all charity and paying her taxes. We're still waiting on that list of anti-trans organisations she would have supposedly funded or donated to - you'd think they would line up to claim her patronage, and yet! Crickets! Strange, isn't it?

So they are reduced to this: dishonesty, defamation, and just making shit up when they run out of ideas. Take this week's example of what has the gendiboos shitting themselves: Jo liking a darkly humourous tweet saying "at least the Talibans know what a woman is". Someone tried to paint that as a) original tweeter was supporting the Talibans (yes, in this era where people can just say "kill yourself" to a celebrity over them claiming to like raisins); b) JKR herself implicitly supports the Talibans by proxy because she liked the tweet. Now, the person who said that claims to have received a cease and desist order. Gee, why would that ever happen??

… Yeah, i guess Jo's a little sensitive about that particular brand of defamation of her character. It's almost like, unlike these bozos, she actually cares about hate crimes against women.

Honestly i wish she'd actually take them to court, just once. She would absolutely wipe the floor with them and that would set the record straight for any more who wants to try her. And i'm not even saying that with her sake in mind tbh.

But for the sake of the ACTUAL WOMEN IN THE MIDDLE EAST SUFFERING THROUGH ISLAMIC REGIMES RIGHT THE FUCK NOW.

(Except, it's not actually funny, not when you take two seconds to think about the implications that a whole generation of people apparently think that this is what antisemitism is, OR, care so little about antisemitism that they are happy to pretend that this is it.) It's a whole 'nother business to pick victims of current wars and religious extremism and make up a story about how it's all some writer you don't like's fault. Those are real people ffs. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? probably Like Attracts Like - it's a companion piece to my legend of korra mash au sometimes you hear the bullet, and ends with zhu li (the radar of the story) getting word of varrick's plane going down a la henry blake in abyssinia, henry. truthfully, i'm not a big writer of angsty endings. angsty beginnings and middles, definitely, but i prefer all my fics to have a happy ending.

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? see basically all of my fics have happy endings, but i think the happiest ending i've written goes to the end of I Know I'm Home, my robisanya au where sam matched with dani on bantr and not rebecca. in the final chapter, all the loose ends get tied up: richmond wins the premier league, roy and keeley get married, and sam and dani have the 'i'm going to marry you someday' talk. nothing but sweetness all around.

8. Do you get hate on fics? the only hate i've ever gotten on a fic was for one of my star wars sequel trilogy rewrites, and that was from some reylos who didn't like the anti-reylo things i was saying on my star wars sideblog, so... nah.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? i do and i have definitely gotten better at it over the years (though i still have a Long way to go lmao). i've only published m/m, but i've written some f/m smut (as you will see when i publish my degas/paris fic next year 😏)

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? indeed i do. craziest (or at least most ambitious) has gotta be there's a raging fire in my heart tonight, my top gun/mcu crossover. (craziest crossover i've ever come up with is the night court / perry mason hbo crossover that @saltyfilmmajor and @bornforastorm have been enabling me to write)

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? i'm picking three for how they have influenced me and my writing: boasami, finnrey, and icemav.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? there are So Many of these....my google drive is essentially a graveyard of unfinished wips

16. What are your writing strengths? dialogue for sure. i've also been told my characterization is great and i have good comedic timing.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? action scenes and smut

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? i've done this before - usually i run it through google translate and then check other translation sites to be sure it's as accurate as possible. i've included the to-english translations in some fics (namely my top gun ones where i've written ice speaking russian) but mostly leave out the to-english translations these days. usually when my characters speak a different language you can pick up what they're saying from context.

19. First fandom you wrote for? the first fandom i wrote for was (i think) icarly, but the first fandom i published fic for was legend of korra.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? varies depending on the mood i'm in (and also i have written a Lot of fic so it is difficult to choose lmao). right now i'd say Word on the Street - i'm still really proud of how that one came together.

Can I talk about my experienc here, and be honest? Sorry if I will bother you with this ask.

I tthink people sooner, or later will leave this "Vive is so good of a writer" thing behind, especially if they are younger, or children. I have been somewhat of a toxic fan if thingsbut as I got older, and started enjoying, and being fan of more things, and interact ed with more people I started criticaly thinking about the things, and creaters I enjoyd, and realise it's better to have a critical look, and see the negativ in things you like, then never seeing them. I know that Viv will always have her super fanatic fans, but a lot will leave. This was the honest part, now I would like to talk about my experiences, or how should I call them.

Okey. So I was a really big Vivziepop fan. I enjoyd both Helluva Boss, and Hazbin Hotel. I was always on the look out to watch a new fan theory video, and fanart. I did not see the problems of both. I was around the age of 16, or 17 when it come out. I loved it, and given me hopes of having my own animated series. I watched drama debunking videos, where Viv was shown as a victom of a baseless hate mob who fabriceted lies, over reacted things, and made things up only to cancel her, and ruin her career. I believed that the things were lies, and slender. I did not see any flaw the show had. But I grown. I speant less and less time in the Viv fanbase. I went back and speant more time in fanbases I was already a part of, and joind new ones. And I grown, I started critisising the things I like, and listen to critics of it. I went back to look at the fanbase, and I imidietly feelt old, and didn't wanted to be there. Especially when I listen to critics.

Now I'm here more found of the critical side, then the fan side. I feel imature about the fect that I ever believed the Viv defender's lies, especially when they call her critics like you "Lifeless low lifes who can't see someone being more sucsesfully then them sucsed so they speand they life traing to ruin it". I know that not all fans of Hazbin Hotel, or Helluva Boss is like that. I know a guy who doas not know about the dramas, doas not like Stolas, and did not like parts of episode, and a girl, who just casually watches, it and knows nothing about Viv's dramas. I like her, she seem to understand my fustretion whit getting Helluva Boss result at first when I type Stolas into the Google, and is genuenly intrested demonology beyond how Viv represented it, when I told her about it. But they way other fans act online I just get a really bad feeling.

I'm just taird. I just whish that I was not imature, or impresionable, enough to believe in what Viv defenders told me.

I'm sorry for venting here, I know this is probably not a place for it, and that I sound pathetic. I'm sorry, I just wanted to say, that what Viv defenders can do.

ugh back when i first moved here i went to a bag sale at the local lgbt bookstore and they had a couple copies of lesbian connection magazine that i got and i subscribed to the magazine (for free, haven't donated) and then i realized they publish shit by transphobes all the time. it fucking sucks and tbh the last straw was this latest issue putting a button that says "female by birth, lesbian by grace" on the cover (my issue being with the insistence on female by birth, obviously; last straw bc the publishers actively chose that, it's more than just publishing write-ins) but i don't even know how to unsubscribe except by contacting them and asking them to take me off the mailing list??? why isn't there a simple unsubscribe option. i googled "lesbian connection unsubscribe" and got nothing except a thread from fans about how "TRAs write in sometimes and whine about how they're going to unsubscribe, like anyone cares".

Considering that radical feminism is the reason why women and women of color specifically have rights to vote, own property, and be treated as human beings, there are already blatant errors to be pointed out in that claim. Feel free to Google "second wave feminism".

Now, why would the feminist movement that made such huge leaps of progress into equality and progress towards liberation, be labeled as "racist" of all things? Let's take a look.

I emphasise women of color because intersectionality - in its true form - is a theory about how different axes of oppression (e.g. race and sex) intersect and feed into each other; women of color, for example, black women, are oppressed on the basis of both sex and race. Race causes her to experience oppression such as slavery, if she lived in the past; segregation, closer to the future. Sex causes her to experience oppression such as rape, objectification, and forced servitude; all three of which are still commonly experienced by black women - every woman - today.

This means that the true form of feminism is radical feminism. It recognizes social classes, analyzes them as they are in reality and not as they are in theory, and works towards the goal that it has always had: female liberation. In countries where men have more control over societies, such as Iran and South Korea, feminists cannot afford the weak and defanged feminism of liberals in the Global North. I will keep this as succinct as possible. In plain terms: Western feminism has lost focus and surrendered to the patriarchy because women still do not have class consciousness. It is useless. Spineless. Weak.

Women in the Global South cannot do campaigns for buccal fat removal, nor can they espouse bimboism and choice feminism - they are fighting for their lives and their rights to exist as a human being, in societies where male supremacy is worse than it is in the West, where patriarchy already dominates. Do you think that the South Korean women going against the societal expectations to tolerate a man, and be forced to have children, have any use for a form of "feminism" that cannot even define what a woman is?

To say that radical feminism is racist is to deny reality. I am aware that this is a favorite pastime of TRAs, but women all around the world, women of color, their feminism is radical feminism because there is no other form of feminism that has ever worked. Liberal feminism has brought nothing but AGPs and male predators into female-only spaces.

Brown and black women all around the world fight for reproductive rights, bodily autonomy, and how can they fight a fight when they cannot tell you what the cause is? It is female liberation; female liberation from sex-based oppression caused by males. It is also ridiculous to outright say that radical feminism is racist when radical feminism is one of the only few ideologies and movements that can identify classes in society. It is far more racist to insinuate that a "cisgender" black woman has more in common with a TIM because you think black women are more "masculine". A black woman is a woman - a man in a dress is a man.

There is no Euro-centrism, or racism, or white supremacy in radical feminism. Feminism is inherently incongruent with those beliefs, unless it is the false, tepid, pathetic excuse of "feminism" adopted by the West used to uphold the patriarchy rather than dismantle it. Shameful.

I just have to say that tras calling radical feminists nazis is so ironic given that one of the pioneers of transgender sex reassignment surgery, Erwin Gohrbandt (who performed Lile Elbe's first surgery) was a literal nazi who performed experiments on prisoners in Dachau. Yet when you google him you results calling him a 'pioneer,' articles titled "The Forgotten History of the World's First Trans Clinic" and In Memoriam pages. All this, right alongside grim stories of how he participated in medicalised torture

they just don't care that the 'pioneering' trans surgeries were specifically with the intention of trying to 'cure' homosexuality.

If she had done wrong and her blog had been found out, why is she still posting on it? That's proof she didn't do anything wrong or she would have switched blogs, right? If you search for her username or satoryuga's username literally the only people talking about either of them in this context are TERF blogs, which is pretty damning and makes it look like y'all picked a random woman in the fandom to choose as your scapegoat for your own actions. You say others were harassed, can you prove trans people were involved in that either or is it just wishful thinking on your part? Satoryuga in their own post does not mention trans people even once. And yes I highly doubt MRA groups in Korea exist and if they do, they exist the same way they do in the rest of the world which is a bunch of fringe men on the internet who aren't actually taking action in real life or have the power to attack some random person.
