Me, shortly after Trump became president: Some of my Grade 4 students were talking the other day about how worried they are that Trump will start World War III now he's president. One student couldn't understand how he could have won and I had to explain to him about the Electoral College and his response was "That's cheating!".

In a world full of noise, one woman is making a case for silence.
For the last six years, Hilde Lysiak has been living in a remote cabin in the woods of Alaska, where she says the only sounds she hears are the birds and the wind.
It's a far cry from her previous life as a news reporter in New York City, where she was constantly surrounded by the din of traffic and construction.
Now, Lysiak is on a mission to help others find the same peace and quiet she has found.
She has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the construction of a "noiseless room" - a space where people can go to escape the noise of the world.
"There's this growing awareness of the importance of silence and stillness in our lives," Lysiak told The Huffington Post.
"But there's nowhere to go to experience it."
The noiseless room would be located in the middle of a forest, far from any city noise.
Lysiak envisions it as a place where people can go to meditate, pray or simply spend time in nature.
"I think there's a real hunger for this kind of experience," she said.
So far, Lysiak's campaign has raised over $8,000, but she still has a long way to go to reach her goal of $100,000.
If she is successful, she plans to build the noiseless room in Alaska, but she says she is open to the idea of expanding to other locations in the future.
"I think this is something that people all over the world would benefit from," she said.

A 12-year-old Pennsylvania reporter chasing down a news tip calmly faced down a Patagonia, Arizona, marshal who pulled her over on her bike and reportedly threatened to throw her in juvenile detention.
Journalist Hilde Kate Lysiak, publisher and star reporter of the Orange Street News website, wrote a story about the encounter and posted a video of the law enforcement officer. The article triggered several complaints, and the town of Patagonia announced it had taken appropriate “action” concerning the marshal, which it didn’t specify, Nogales International reported.
Marshal Joseph Patterson pulled Lysiak over Monday afternoon as she was riding her bike down a street in pursuit of her story, she reported on her site. She said Patterson demanded an ID, and she identified herself as a member of the press. The young publisher is in Arizona to cover border issues, according to Pennsylvania’s York Dispatch.
“I don’t want to hear about any of that freedom of the press stuff,” he said, according to Lysiak, and added, “I’m going to have you arrested and thrown in juvey.”
Lysiak later filmed Patterson with her cellphone in another encounter soon afterward. “When you saw me earlier, you threatened to throw me in juvey. What exactly am I doing that’s illegal?” she asked.
Patterson gave her a string of reasons, including that she “quickly left the boy she was with” when Lysiak saw him, followed him and disobeyed an order. Patterson also claimed there was a “mountain lion in the area” and that he was only looking out for her safety (though Lysiak reported there were other people nearby who were not warned to leave).
He also told her she was allowed to film him but it would be illegal to post it on the internet. It’s not.
“You can tape me. But what I’m going to tell you is if you put my face on the internet, it’s against the law in Arizona,” Patterson tells her in the video. “So I’m not giving you permission to use my picture or my face on the internet. Do you understand all that?”
Dan Barr, a lawyer with the First Amendment Coalition of Arizona, told the Nogales newspaper in an email that Patterson’s statement was “complete nonsense” and that it was “perfectly legal” for Lysiak to post Patterson’s image. “I hope this is not reflective of the Patagonia marshal threatening people with other nonexistent criminal violations,” he wrote.
Lysiak’s story on her site began: “The OSN was working on a story in Patagonia, Arizona, when a law enforcement officer threatened the reporter with arrest unless she stopped reporting the news.”
Patterson could not immediately be reached for comment.
The town issued a statement on its website that it had received “many comments concerning Marshal Patterson’s interaction with a young reporter from the Orange Street News.” It said the “matter has been carefully reviewed” and the town took “action we believe is appropriate to the situation.”
The statement added: “We do not publicly disclose personnel actions including discipline and will have no further comment on this matter.”
Lysiak later defended Patterson from people posting his personal information on the internet.
Lysiak has been a media star since 2015, when she launched the Orange Street News in her hometown of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
She’s an accomplished journalist who has grabbed scoops ahead of veteran reporters. She’s the youngest member of the national Society of Professional Journalists. An upcoming girl mystery series inspired by her is being produced by Apple TV.

Apple places straight-to-series order for child journalist drama series
Apple places straight-to-series order for child journalist drama series
While Apple is not expected to release its first TV shows until March 2019, they are continuing to create more and more content, building excitement. They have just placed a straight-to-series order for a drama series about a pre-teen investigative reporter, Hilde Lysiak, as reported by Variety.
“The series follows a young girl who moves from Brooklyn to the small lakeside town her father left…

Just as the philosophical question asks, “If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”; if a series is on and no one watches it, does it exists?”  This is my question about HBO Max’s GENERA+ION.
Tumblr media
Seven out of eight episodes have aired and hardly anyone talks about this show. Is it because GENERATION is stylized as “Genera+ion” so people assumed it would be obnoxious? Is it because it’s executive produced by Lena Dunham? Is it because it’s perceived as the poor cousin of EUPHORIA? Okay, there’s something to that, actually. But I really have enjoyed GENERA+ION.
It was sold as an edgy drama but it’s more like SKINS with a heavy dose of DEGRASSI.  The teens (Justice Smith, Lukita Maxwell, Hayley Sanchez, Chloe East, Nathanya Alexander, Chase Sui Wonders, Sydney Mae Diaz and Uly Schlesinger) of HBO’s EUPHORIA and WE ARE WHO WE ARE are world-weary and angst ridden while the teens on this show have their fair share of teen angst, but more than anything they’re - for the most part - joy-filled knuckledheads as they navigate life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Another group of teens dealing with mad drama are the teens of Netflix’s THE IRREGULARS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you ever thought, “Know what’s missing from the Sherlock Holmes universe? Orphans.” - then this show is for you.  Set in Victorian London, THE IRREGULARS focuses on four orphans: Bea (Thaddea Graham), her younger sister Jessie (Darci Shaw) and their friends Spike (McKell Davis) and Bill (Jojo Mancari) as they live a hard-scrabbled life with nothing but each other....that is until John Watson (Royce Pierreson) seeks out Bea’s help on a case. Bea and her friends, with an assist from the mysterious Leopold (Harrison Osterfield), The Irregulars realize there are dark forces at play and a growing threat to London.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I liked the show but the last three hours were a chore to get through. It became truly ponderous, but I stuck with it because the back half of the series is where they get more into the Sherlock Holmes’ bits (played here by Henry Lloyd-Hughes as a Holmes who is decidely *not* a functional drug addict.)
Tumblr media
(Lloyd-Hughes has a Sherlock connection: his grandmother’s godfather was Peter Cushing who played Sherlock in the Sixties’ series)
Tumblr media
Very strong cast and I liked the characterizations of John Watson who has - at least in the incarnations I’ve seen - been the genteel sidekick with a bit of bite, whereas Watson in THE IRREGULARS is a rude, opportunistic bastard whose genius is a near match to Holmes.
Tumblr media
And it’s nice seeing Tom Holland’s former man-servant best friend with a starring role.
Good on ya, Harrison.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sure a quick Google search can find the answer, but I am sure the same casting director/s behind Epix’s PENNYWORTH is behind this series. I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that it has two of Pennyworth’s villains playing characters of dubious natures (Alfred Hogg who is the S2 baddie of PENNYWORTH features of Osterfield’s valet; and Jonjo O’Neill plays devious occultist Aleister Crowley in S1 & S2 of PENNYWORTH and plays a slightly less egotistical Mycroft Holmes in this).
O’Neill is no stranger to Sherlock Holmes.  He recently ended his four-year relationship with Amanda Abbington, former partner of Martin Freeman and SHERLOCK’S Mary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a good watch - a tad dense towards the end, but I would just zone out thinking that somewhere in the UK is a lab where someone mixed a bit of Tom Glynn-Carney, Tom Rhys-Harries and Jamie Campbell Bower to make Jojo Mancari.
Tumblr media
Who I remember from being the guy who gave Agyness Deyn that work on HARD SUN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of HARD SUN, Deyn’s costar Jim Sturgess can be soon seen in series 2 of Apple+’s HOME BEFORE DARK which bows June 11th.
Tumblr media
If you’ve not watched this great show, it’s inspired by the real life youngest investigative journalist Hilde Lysiak. Brooklynn Prince (THE FLORIDA PROJECT) plays Hilde, an investigative journalist who learned the trade at the knee of her father Matthew (Sturgess).  When Matthew is let go from the paper he was employed by, he moves his family to his hometown. Quickly Hilde discovers a decades long mystery and sets to solve it. Series two will further explore the mystery and the ramifications of what Hilde uncovers.
Tumblr media
I love this father/daughter duo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Unlike the three above series, APPLE+’s CALLS did not have to shut down production due to Covid-19.
Tumblr media
Based on Canal+’s series based on the same name and created by Timothée Hochet, the U.S. version is from Hochet and writer/director Fede Alvarez (DON’T BREATHE, THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB) and features a bevy of actors (Pedro Pascal, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Karen Gillian, Nicholas Braun,  Aubrey Plaza, Lily Collins, Jaeden Martell and more) lending their voices to stories of the paranormal.
I thought this would be a perfect show for me because it’s all voice-work so I could do other things, but no, I sat there staring at the screen reading the captions atop Windows Media visualizer background of the series.

A 12-year old journalist named Hilde Lysiak interviewed Michelle Obama for Amtrak's "The National" magazine. She read MO’s book Becoming and asked questions about it. Ms Lysiak is the youngest member of the Society of Professional Journalists. She recently gave a speech to graduating students at the Reed College of Media, West Virginia University. A 12-year-old girl is more prepared for her job than Duchess of Thirst. And we are NOT surprised.
Wow! Wow! Wow!  Thank you!  I nominate her!😁❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Bully officer threatens to send kid reporter to juvy, but kid doesn't back down
Tumblr media
A reporter for Pennsylvania's Orange Street News rode her bike near the Arizona-Mexico border on an assignment when a marshal in the town of Patagonia threatened to arrest her. He wanted her to stop what she was doing. The reporter, Hilde Lysiak, is only 12 years old.
According to her story in the Orange Street News, when she gave him her name and phone number and told him she was working for a news organization, he said, “I don’t want to hear about any of that freedom of the press stuff. I’m going to have you arrested and thrown in juvey."
A bit later, she approached him to ask what he meant about sending her to juvey. "What exactly am I doing that's illegal?"
He tells her if she puts his face on the Internet it's against the law in Arizona. He then talks in circles, not ever giving a valid reason of how she was breaking the law.

I wish there had been some news today.  I enjoy reading the news, but today felt like there wasn’t any news...
I was writing this out like “haha not enough news” when I suddenly got curious what was going on with my favorite journalist Hilde Lysiak, and Orange Street News and...
Tumblr media
Hilde just found Bigfoot, she just cracked Bigfoot wide open, and we’re all so distracted by plagues and war and rumors of war and missile stuff, that we can’t just be like “damn, good job, Hilde.”
That’s messed up.
Anyways, I thought people who had some big issue with Wikileaks were all being dorks.  I hope they hack every single one of us now that they’re running free and loose again.  Everybody everywhere.  Punish us.

TV Review: 'Home Before Dark' Season 2
TV Review: ‘Home Before Dark’ Season 2
A lot happened last year on Home Before Dark (so much so, that if you need a refresher this video is a good place to start). Season two picks up almost a year later, though that time jump is hardly felt, as Hilde (The Florida Project’s Brooklynn Prince) and her dad, Matt (Across the Universe’s Jim Sturgess) have been continuing to look for clues in the Richie Fife (Kiefer O’Reilly) case. Nothing…
