Wow I realized I haven't posted here in MONTHS
And that my last personal post was a countdown to my official conversion, and then I left yall hanging 😅
On the 11th of Iyar 5782, I went before the beit din, went to the mikvah, and officially joined the Jewish people!
It was a long path to get there, but my real journey started then and continues for the rest of my life as I learn, grow, and connect with my community.
Still working on learning Hebrew, but im slowly getting there - next big goal will be learning to chant Torah and having an adult b'nai mitzvah!

Lag BaOmer 2022 / ל״ג בָּעוֹמֶר 5782
33rd day of counting the Omer 🔥
Lag BaOmer for Hebrew Year 5782 begins at sundown on Wednesday, 18 May 2022 and ends at nightfall on Thursday, 19 May 2022.
Lag BaOmer (Hebrew: ל״ג בעומר), also Lag B’Omer, is a Jewish holiday celebrated on the 33rd day of the Counting of the Omer, which occurs on the 18th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar. One reason given for the holiday is as the day of passing of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. Modern Jewish tradition links the holiday to the Bar Kokhba Revolt against the Roman Empire (132-135 CE). In Israel, it is celebrated as a symbol for the fighting Jewish spirit.

/ee-'yar/ is the 8th month in the Jewish / Hebrew calendar. It visits us in the months of April-May, and is the month we celebrate /lag ba-o-'mer/ lighting up bonfires.
In Israel, it is usually the time when we celebrate Israel's independence day (April 26, not a Jewish/Hebrew year date), the day after its Memorial day for Israel's fallen.

Lag BaOmer (Hebrew: לַ״ג בָּעוֹמֶר‎, LaG Bāʿōmer), also Lag B'Omer or Lag LaOmer, is a Jewish religious holiday celebrated on the 33rd day of the Counting of the Omer, which occurs on the 18th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar. In modern-day Israel, the holiday also serves to commemorate the Bar Kokhba Revolt against the Romans and is "a symbol for the fighting Jewish spirit". The Palmach division of the Haganah was established on Lag BaOmer 1941, and the government order creating the Israel Defense Forces was issued on Lag BaOmer 1948. Beginning in 2004, the Israeli government designated Lag BaOmer as the day for saluting the IDF reserves. (Wikipedia)
The Bar Kokhba revolt, also known as the Third Jewish Revolt or the 'Jewish Expedition' as the Romans named it, was a rebellion by the Jews of the Roman province of Judea, led by Simon bar Kokhba, against the Roman Empire. The last of the three Jewish–Roman wars, it was fought c. 132–136 CE. The revolt erupted as a result of religious and political tensions in Judea following on the failed First Revolt in 66–73 CE, including the establishment of a large Roman military presence in the province, changes in administrative and economic life, and the failure of revolts in the diaspora. The immediate reasons seem to be the construction of a new city, Aelia Capitolina, over the ruins of Jerusalem and the erection of a temple to Jupiter on the Temple Mount. The Bar Kokhba revolt greatly influenced the course of Jewish history, philosophy and religion. Despite easing the persecution of Jews following Hadrian's death in 138 CE, the Romans barred Jews from Jerusalem, except for attendance in Tisha B'Av. The Bar Kokhba revolt was among the key events to differentiate Christianity as a religion distinct from Judaism. (Wikipedia)
The Lord's Day in Christianity is generally Sunday, the principal day of communal worship. It is observed by most Christians as the weekly memorial of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is said in the canonical Gospels to have been witnessed alive from the dead early on the first day of the week. According to some sources, Christians held the Sabbath as resting day, commemorating the God's Commandment, which said that the Sabbath should be the day of resting, according to Exodus. 20:08.
After Constantine the Great's in 321 and the Council of Laodicea from 363, the Christian rulers decided that the commandment of God is no more valid, now being needed to follow the commandments of people, switching in this sense the day of rest to Sunday, and by 361 AD it had become a mandated weekly occurrence. (Wikipedia)
In Christian eschatology, the Antichrist refers to people prophesied by the Bible to oppose Jesus Christ and substitute themselves in Christ's place before the Second Coming. The term Antichrist (including one plural form) is found four times in the New Testament, solely in the First and Second Epistle of John. The Antichrist is announced as the one "who denies the Father and the Son." The similar term pseudokhristos or "false Christ" is also found in the Gospels. In Matthew (chapter 24) and Mark (chapter 13), Jesus alerts his disciples not to be deceived by the false prophets, who will claim themselves to be the Christ, performing "great signs and wonders". Three other images often associated with the Antichrist are the "little horn" in Daniel's final vision, the "man of sin" in Paul the Apostle's Second Epistle to the Thessalonians, and the Beast of the Sea in the Book of Revelation. Wyandot, name of an Iroquoian people (1749) and their language, from French Ouendat, perhaps from Huron wendat "forest" or yandata "village,"or from the people's self-designation wedat, which is perhaps a shortening of a longer form akin to Mohawk skawe:nat "one language." TANAKH (Jewish Publication Society, Hebrew-English): Page 19 Genesis 11:1 Everyone on earth had the same language and the same words. Genesis 11:2 And as they migrated from the east, they came upon a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there. Genesis 11:3 They said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks and burn them hard."--Brick served them as stone, and bitumen served them as mortar.-- Genesis 11:4 And they said, "Come, let us build us a city, and a tower with its top in the sky, to make a name for ourselves; else we shall be scattered all over the world." Genesis 11:5 The Lord came down to look at the city and tower that man had built, Genesis 11:6 and the Lord said, "If, as one people with one language for all, this is how they have begun to act, then nothing that they may propose to do will be out of their reach. Genesis 11:7 Let us, then, go down and confound their speech there, so that they shall not understand one another's speech." Genesis 11:8 Thus the Lord scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city. Genesis 11:9 That is why it was called Babel, because there the Lord confounded the speech of the whole earth; and from there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

Summerville became an official town on 17 December 1847. That year, the town passed a law against cutting down trees, the nation's first such law, and a $25 fine was issued to anyone who did so without permission. The town's official seal reads "Sacra Pinus Esto (The Pine is Sacred)." In 1899, the International Congress of Physicians (or "Tuberculosis Congress"[12]) listed Summerville as one of the world's two best areas for treatment of and recovery from lung and throat disorders, due to its dry and sandy location and the many pine trees that release turpentine derivatives into the air. This notation is credited with aiding Summerville's commercial and residential development. The former Summerville post office built in 1938 contains a mural, Train Time – Summerville, painted by Bernadine Custer in 1939. Federally commissioned murals were produced from 1934 to 1943 in the U.S. through the Section of Painting and Sculpture, later called the Section of Fine Arts, of the Treasury Department. Starting in 1972, Summerville has supported the Summerville Family YMCA in hosting the annual Flowertown Festival to support health and wellness programs at the YMCA. It is South Carolina's largest arts and crafts festival. It is held during the last weekend of March or the first weekend of April in the Summerville Azalea Park. It often coincides with the annual Cooper River Bridge Run held in Charleston the same weekend. During the three days of the Flowertown Festival, Summerville sees about 200,000 visitors. Admission and parking is free to all who attend. No alcohol or pets are permitted at the festival. About 200 artists from around the country are invited and display their works for purchase. Area restaurants are featured in the festival's "Taste" section, where tickets can be purchased to sample their offerings. Children can enjoy the carnival in the Children's Jubilee/Kids Fest section. In 1925, these flowers led Summerville's Chamber of Commerce to adopt the slogan "Flower Town in the Pines." Summerville claims the title "The Birthplace of Sweet Tea." A recipe for sweet iced tea published in Texas native Marion Cabell's 1879 cookbook Housekeeping in Old Virginia has been cited as evidence against this claim. (Wikipedia)

From Abraham Lincoln's "House Divided" speech from Illinois Republican State Convention, Springfield, Illinois June 16, 1858: "A house divided against itself cannot stand." I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.
I do not expect the Union to be dissolved - I do not expect the house to fall - but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other. Either the opponents of slavery, will arrest the further spread of it, and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in course of ultimate extinction; or its advocates will push it forward till it shall become alike lawful in all the States, old as well as new-North as well as South.
We shall lie down pleasantly dreaming that the people of Missouri are on the verge of making their State free; and we shall awake to the reality, instead, that the Supreme Court has made Illinois a slave State. To meet and overthrow the power of that dynasty, is the work now before all those who would prevent that consummation. That is what we have to do. Our cause, then, must be intrusted to, and conducted by its own undoubted friends-those whose hands are free, whose hearts are in the work-who do care for the result.
Two years ago the Republicans of the nation mustered over thirteen hundred thousand strong. We did this under the single impulse of resistance to a common danger, with every external circumstance against us. Of strange, discordant, and even, hostile elements, we gathered from the four winds, and formed and fought the battle through, under the constant hot fire of a disciplined, proud, and pampered enemy. Did we brave all then to falter now? - now - when that same enemy is wavering, dissevered, and belligerent? This result is not doubtful. We shall not fail-if we stand firm, we shall not fail. Wise counsels may accelerate or mistakes delay it, but sooner or later the victory is sure to come.

Army Divisions
27 This is the list of the Israelites—heads of families, commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and their officers, who served the king in all that concerned the army divisions that were on duty month by month throughout the year. Each division consisted of 24,000 men.
The Book of Chronicles scales. Sometimes we are inside our own heads, sometimes we are wholly consumed in God Himself. In between these two lay the human race. This section explains the course of the Light in the Torah from its first moment of expansion through its culmination in 12 month increments.
The Gematria for the divisions of 12 set at 24,000 men each, one per month, is layered similarly.
It bridges from the Twin Flames Union, that moment the penis drips from one end, creating a man either in the womb or after semenarche, [union of man and woman/union of a boy with man], both the topics of much conversation creating unity with other human beings and the wonder one experiences after the penis discharges. Both concepts have a Gematria of 1450, which equates to Adhamoah or...
Noun אדם (adam) is one of a few words for man but means literally probably "product" or likeness-made-from-soil; man as corporeal unit of humanity. This word is never used in plural, and its feminine equivalent, namely אדמה (adama), denotes arable soil or clay-red earth.
Red is the first color a baby learns to see and red or ruddy is indeed the color of rudiment: verb אדם ('adom or 'adem) means to be red, adjective אדם ('adom) means red, noun אדם ('odem) denotes a ruddy gem, possibly quartz, noun אדם ('edom) denotes a kind of red stew, adjective אדמדם ('adamiddam) means reddish, and adjective אדמוני (admoni) means red or ruddy.
The ubiquitous noun דם (dam) means blood; the seat of life, whose circulatory system always sits inside an organic body, isolated from the world at large. When a river turns to blood, it not so much assumes the color and thickness of blood but becomes isolated from the greater hydrological cycle.
The life that is seated in the blood is therefore primarily an issue of waste-management. Without it, the organism pollutes and dies.
Army Divisions
2 In charge of the first division, for the first month, was Jashobeam son of Zabdiel. There were 24,000 men in his division. 3 He was a descendant of Perez and chief of all the army officers for the first month.
Nisan, "setting out", is the first Hebrew month.
Jashobeam, son of Zabdiel=Let the people return the gift God has given...
Perez=what was once broken into pieces.
4 In charge of the division for the second month was Dodai the Ahohite; Mikloth was the leader of his division. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Iyar, "the binding light" is the second Hebrew month.
Dodai=to physical beauty
Ahohite=from a node to the greater economic whole
Mikloth=all that is covered by God
5 The third army commander, for the third month, was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest. He was chief and there were 24,000 men in his division. 6 This was the Benaiah who was a mighty warrior among the Thirty and was over the Thirty. His son Ammizabad was in charge of his division.
The third month is Sivan, "to store" but more accurately means to "receive and to keep".
As spelled by Jewish scribes, our name Sivan (סיון) seems deliberately similar to the names Sin (סין) and Sinai (סיני), which ultimately may derive from the verb אסם ('asam), to gather or store. This appears to be more than a cute coincidence because precisely three months after their departure from Egypt, the Israelites entered the wilderness of Sinai, where the Creator deposited his Law into their keep.
Benaiah son of Jehoaida=
"Build the association between the father, the son, the house and the civilization. Know and also have familiarity between what is known and its modes of expression."
Ammizabad="This, which is kept secret is what is available to the kinsman, the in-crowd."
Anytime the number 30, or "over thirty" is used it means the self has just left Egypt. 30 connects stages of life between the last traces of the boy and the inevitability of certain manhood.
7 The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel the brother of Joab; his son Zebadiah was his successor. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The fourth month is Tammuz, or "son of life".
Asahel son of Joab= What is made and worked with by social fatherhood by the Alpha Male
Zebadiah= whom God has fashioned as the inner self.
=One has to give up idols the ones that whisper to the ego and find the "son of one's own life."
8 The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Av, to stop criss-crossing and go straight across, is the fifth month.
Shamhuth=From the Desert of Desolation
Izrahite=he will break out
9 The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Elul "what sucks the worth out of life", is the sixth month.
Ira, son of Ikkesh=A roused wild ass
Tekoite=will have to produce with sudden force, like a trumpet blast (woof).
These are most likely the complainers, former slaves, who reconsidered their freedom outside of Egypt and were told by Moses and Aaron they needed to grow up and do a few things. They argued with him again when it was time to Cross the Jordan. Joshua had the same problem.
10 The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Tishrei is the seventh month.
The seventh month is one of festive assemblies. In the month Ethanim "all the men of Israel assembled themselves to King Solomon at the feast" in order to transport the Ark of the Covenant from David's Zion to Solomon's Temple.
Helez, the Pelonite, the Ephraimite=
A certain verdict requires one to branch out.
11 The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbekai the Hushathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Heshvan "the library of synthetic wisdom" is the eighth month.
Sibbekai the Hushathite, son of the dawn. "To cast off the chaff quickly and rise up out of the leprosy into the sun."
Leprosy is utter blasphemy against God. Our current world is leprous. It says it is grateful to God but it fucks everything up. This it did on its own in the clear presence of options including the fact most of what has happened to this planet is and has been illegal.
To be a Jew is to fight leprosy with all one's might and resources.
12 The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, a Benjamite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
The ninth month is Kislev, "a belief witout correlated events" like a body without a skeleton, without constellation.
Abiezer the Anathothite, a Benjaminite= The Emanated Instructions, the Eye and the Fountain, which are found in the Southern House.
13 The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, a Zerahite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Tevet "intercourse, to be close to the skin, to define goodness as that which brings about the inevitable, as set by God" is the tenth month.
Maharai the Netophathite, also a Zerahite=
"The swift, the skilled, whose drips distill into gum, also rises, but faces East and becomes free of leprosy."
All superstition about how human beings have sex has to stop. The Most High says this takes His Name in Vain and is the subject of blasphemy against Him.
14 The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, an Ephraimite. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Shevat "the beating rod" is the eleventh month.
Benaiah the Pirathonite, an Ephraimite = "Beat out of the stone, the Little Pharaohs, the Little Confederates of Egypt by spreading out."
15 The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, from the family of Othniel. There were 24,000 men in his division.
Adar "to eclipse oneself with what is majestic" is the twelfth month.
Heldai the Netophathite from the family of Othniel=
Earthlings who submit to pressure from the God Yah become jewels.
The noun חלד, heled, refers to the acts and deeds that sum up one's life on earth, or indeed the whole spectrum of human life: the world.
To refuse submission, including the offering of complete respect for other members of the human race is to forfeit God's Presence and to be subject to the law.
As the Tanakh says, it is the law that turns the mole into a man and it has served us well since the time of Adam.

Month of IYAR Part 2
Month of Transition, Healing, Testing & First Fruit Harvest
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
In the month of Iyar – God desires to reveal the secrets of His Covenant
The month of Iyar is the second month of the spiritual year. It’s a month of transition and increased revelation. The number two is represents ‘COVENANT.’ It’s the verification of the facts brought in by two witnesses, see 1Timothy 5:19. Yashua sent His disciples in groups of two to testify about his teachings and miracles, but also to be witnesses of those who accepted or rejected the gospel (Mark 6:7-13). The shortest verse in the Bible is "Jesus wept" found in John 11:35, containing just two words.
As mentioned above, two represents ‘COVENANT,’ and this is the season that God is calling us forth wanting and desiring to reveal and establish the secrets of His Covenant. Hosea 11:1 “When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.” Romans 8:19 “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.” Our entire lives should be about giving glory to and being witnesses of our relationship with the Living God.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The month of Iyar is also the eighth month of the Jewish civil calendar. The number 8 represents ‘New Beginning,’ meaning a new order or creation.
Eight is also an integral part of Jesus' sacrifice. Like the Passover lamb, Jesus was selected as the Lamb to take away man's sins on Nisan10 (April 1, 30 A.D. - John 12:28-29). He was crucified on Nisan 14 (Wednesday, April 5 in 30 A.D.). His resurrection occurred three complete days after he was buried, which was at the end of the weekly Sabbath day that fell on Nisan 17. Nisan 17 was the eighth day, counting inclusively, from the time Christ was selected as man's sacrificial Lamb. All this bears record of Jesus' perfect sacrifice and His complete victory over death.
Boys were to be circumcised on the eighth day. The number eight symbolizes circumcision of the heart through Christ and the receiving of the Holy Spirit (Romans 2:28-29 and Colossians 2:11-13). Those in Christ become a new creation, with godly character being created by the power of God's Spirit (2Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:10; 4:23-24). https://www.biblestudy.org/
Tumblr media
So, combining the meaning of the number two and the eight we can conclude that we are transitioning, we are on a journey from the old to the new where God desires to bring us into a new dimension of His spirit and desires to reveal, to make known to us the secrets of His Covenant as we journey, as we transition (spiritually speaking) into Mount Sinai.
What does this all mean? you may ask. Well, during the month of Nissan was the festivity of ‘PASSOVER.’ We have ‘Passed over’ and transitioned from captivity into freedom. In this particular season that we are in, we are not celebrating where we are in time. With this said, we should be celebrating where we are going. Just like the Israelites in the Exodus journey, we are in that transition period in our lives where we are moving from the ‘KRONOS’ (living our lives) into the ‘KAIROS’ (MOED – God’s opportune time) time. We are witnessing this happening before our very eyes. Everything has changed. Everything is shifting very quickly and we can’t seem to catch up to it. We have entered a MOEDIM (מועדים Hebrew for appointed times) season and time and the evidence is in the heavens and the earth. It’s all around us.
Tumblr media
Periods of transitions can be difficult as well as times of testing. We are in this transition and testing period. When we read Exodus 13-19, we see the Israelites, after experiencing the mighty hand of deliverance by God, during their journey (transition) they grew weary, thirsty, hungry, murmuring and complaining. These chapters occurred during the month of Iyar. The Israelites quickly forgot that God brought them out of Egypt with an outstretched arm. You and I are not much different from the Israelites.
Periods of transitions are difficult, confusing and uncomfortable. It’s a time between where we’ve been, on the way to where we are going; and oftentimes without a clear vision of where we are going. This is how the Israelites felt. Although God had made it clear to them that He was taking them to the Promise Land (Canaan), they had to make a stop, they had to spend some time at Mount Sinai. They had experienced Passover in Egypt, but Sinai was the place where they would experience Pentecost. Mount Sinai was the place of God’s presence. It’s where He would reveal His glory and give them fresh revelation. Hence God took them to the mountain where they would be equipped for their walk with God and prepare them for a life of victory. Going from Egypt to Sinai meant passing, transitioning through testing in order to enter into their promise, their faith had to grow. Faith grows when it is tested.
Tumblr media
You may ask, how can we avoid repeating history? How can we avoid complaining and continue worshipping God through these trying and very difficult and uncertain times? FEAR NOT! Isaiah 41:10 tells us; “Fear not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yea, I will help you; yea, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.” And 2 Timothy 1:7 reads; “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” The fact of the matter is that God wants us to draw near to Him like we’ve never been drawn before. He wants us to know His character. The Lord is gracious to reveal secrets hidden in His name that will help us trust, praise and worship Him, even in times of transition and testing.
Proverbs 18:10 reads; “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” It’s in the month of Iyar that God reveals Himself as Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah, Jireh and Jehovah Nissi.
Understand that God has many attributes attached to His name, and the above names mentioned are three of the many names in which God through His Word has revealed Himself to us. He revealed Himself to the Israelites and to us as our ‘Healer,’ our ‘Provider’ and our ‘Banner.’ These three are key attributes of God for us to know intimately if we are to make it through transitional and difficult times. The reason why these three are so important during testing and transition is because His names reveal faithfulness, not just in our physical needs but our spiritual needs as well. If during good times we run to worship our God, how much more should we be running to His presence during the hard times! We should be running into His presence calling upon Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah, Jireh and Jehovah Nissi for our hearts to be established and stir up faith to praise and worship Him.
Tumblr media
Are you in a period of transition? Are you in a period of testing? Do you find yourself doubting, discourage, oppress, depress and even finding hard to go on, that you can’t even bring yourself to cry out to God and worship Him? THAT is the time to truly run to Him, run to your HEALER, run to your PROVIDER and to your BANNER. That is the time to ““Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” as Psalms 55:22 tells us. Cast ALL your cares on the Lord, your ox, your burden bearer, (the ox or donkey represented by the tribe of Issachar and Issachar is the tribe representing the month of Iyar). The Lord is our burden bearer, let us draw closer to Him and see how God will draw close to us and begin a mighty work in us that will bring us into victory and walking in victory. “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things which you do not know” Jeremiah 33:3
10- Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest: 11- And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it. 12- And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the LORD. Leviticus 23:9-12
The above scripture is where God instituted the first fruit’s offering to the Israelites. This feast appear in both the Old and New Testaments and are talked about in relation to both spiritual and physical offerings. Offering first fruits when we receive an increase is a demonstration of our faith in God as the true source of our provision (Jehovah Jireh). James 2:17 reads; “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” The Apostle James explains that faith without action is really not faith. The first fruit offering is one way to activate and believe God as our Jehovah Jireh, our provider.
The Feast of First fruits begins with the month of Nissan but continues through Iyar and on to Sivan, Pentecost. They are connected and should never be separated. The bread was essential to Israel. In truth barley is not food for humans though it can be eaten and is by the poor, or times of famine. Therefore when the barley crop at Nissan was successful, there followed a seven-week period before the ripening of the main crop, that being wheat.
In closing, the choice to move in time, in the appointed time of the Lord (MOEDIM, KAIROS) is ours. The transition, testing and the first fruits are all part of a singular drive to bring us into ‘PENTECOST (SHAVOUT). As we journey through this dessert of life, we must reach the mountain of God where we can receive revelation for this KAIROS (MOEDIM) time we are in and hence receive the power of the new outpouring of His spirit as we approach Pentecost. We are certainly going to need this for the days and months ahead that leads us into the year 5784. Time has shifted and what was once were is no more. We are on a journey receiving the new wine skin and wine. Let us move in time with God and live, or we die in our despair, doubt, murmuring and complain as the Israelites did in the desert never able to see or enter the promise land. Choose to be an overcomer.
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.” Revelations 2:7

On the Cusp
This week brought us both Yom Hazikkaron (the Israeli version of Memorial Day on which the almost 25,000 soldiers, sailors, and peace officers of various kinds who have fallen in the defense of their nation are remembered and mourned) on Wednesday and Yom Ha-atzama·ut (the 74th anniversary of the declaration of Israeli independence in 1948) on Thursday.
Originally, these two were actually the same day: in 1949 and 1950, memorial services for those who fell in the War of Independence were held on Independence Day itself. I suppose that must have seemed only fitting at the time. The strange mix of emotions stirred up by the challenge both to mourn and to celebrate on the same day ended up stirring a confusing set of contradictory emotions, however, and so in 1951 the government of Prime Minister David Ben Gurion decreed that these observances would henceforth take place on two adjacent days in the Hebrew month of Iyar. And that is where things stand even today.
The hinge between the two days is particularly fraught. The only time I’ve been in Israel for either was in 1984, when I was getting towards the end of a year-long post-doctoral fellowship at the Hebrew University. It was a fabulous year and not only for my studies: our oldest child was born in Jerusalem that year. And his b’rit milah was held precisely on the cusp between Yom Hazikkaron and Yom Ha-atzma·ut.
After we got married but before we had children, Joan and I discussed the possibility of celebrating our children’s Hebrew birthdays each year rather than their secular ones. We didn’t (and don’t) do that with respect to our own birthdays, but it somehow appealed to us both to imagine bucking the system in that specific way. We left the idea in abeyance—we didn’t yet have any children to try it out on anyway—and then Max was born on Yom Hashoah and that was the end of that.
At the time, we were—like all first-time parents—a little overwhelmed by the complex, multifaceted impact becoming parents was going to have on our lives. My lovely mother-in-law arrived the next day—I went to the airport myself to retrieve her and bring her directly to Joan’s side—which calmed things down a bit. Also, we had a lot of friends in Jerusalem, most of whom were already parents, and their presence and their counsel calmed us down as well. Within a few days, things seemed dramatically less overwhelming. We had somehow turned into a family of three. The future beckoned. Israel itself was in the throes of hyper-inflation, but we ourselves were secure (my stipend was pegged to the U.S. dollar and so, unlike the salaries of so many others, was specifically not in freefall) and so we turned our attention to our major short-term obligation and set ourselves to figuring out how to make a b’rit milah in Israel.
Finding a mohel was the easy part. The date, however, was an issue: Jewish boys are circumcised on the eighth days of their lives, which meant that Max’s bris was going to fall on Yom Hazikkaron, the saddest of all days in Israeli culture.
It’s a small country. There weren’t then and aren’t now many families that haven’t been touched by war—and the loss war inevitably entails—one way or the other. Perhaps, speaking in the broadest terms, there aren’t any. If you add the more than four thousand Israelis who have died at the hands of terrorists since 1948 to the number of fallen servicemen and women, the total is close to 30,000. For a nation of under ten million citizens, that is a staggering number. And so, unlike in our strange land where Memorial Day mostly features picnics, beach outings, and big sales in stores, Yom Hazikkaron is taken dead seriously by Israelis. It is a day devoted solely to remembering, to honoring the sacrifice of those who paid the ultimate price for the privilege of defending their country. The mood is somber and serious. When the siren rings out at 11 AM, everything stops—including traffic. All stand at attention for two full minutes. No one  has anyplace else to be: it is as though the national resolve to endure despite loss and to persevere in a hostile world is somehow simmered down to those few minutes of national silence. It’s easy to describe, but it’s also the kind of thing you have actually to experience personally to understand fully.
So that was going to be Max’s eighth day, the day of his b’rit milah. We ourselves were living in a small apartment on Haportzim Street, but I had a colleague, an older friend, who had a very beautiful and much larger home just a few blocks away, and he and his wife graciously offered it to us for our simchah. We were very pleased and gratefully accepted. And it really was a beautiful home with a large balcony overlooking the whole neighborhood. (We couldn’t have known it at the time, but in the distance was the hill on which we would acquire our own apartment in Jerusalem two decades later.)
To try to play down the somber feel of the day, we scheduled the b’rit for later afternoon. Usually, it’s customary to schedule b’ritot for early morning—but this seemed like a good day to deviate from that custom. It turned out to be an inspired idea. (It was Joan’s, obviously.) The mohel was friendly and talented. Joan’s father’s family showed up from all over Israel to be with us, including two of Max’s great-great-uncles, featured below, men old enough to have emigrated from Poland not to Israel or to British Palestine, but to Turkish Palestine. Lots of our friends from Canada and the States showed up. (Rabbi David Golinkin, who will be our scholar-in-residence next February at Shelter Rock was there too.) Our Lamaze class came too, as did our teacher.
At the time, I thought we were being clever by scheduling our simchah on the cusp of Yom Ha-atzama·ut so as to make the atmosphere less dour than it would have been earlier in the day. But later on it seemed like an inspired choice for a different reason. The circumcision took place, as it had to, before sundown, i.e., on the eighth day of Max’s life. But shortly after that the sunset and fireworks, easily visible from our friends’ balcony, lit up the eastern sky. As the nation turned from grief to celebration, I felt myself—and I say this not poetically or metaphorically, but simply and really—I felt myself stepping into the ever-flowing river of time that connects the past with the future, and history with destiny. I was intimately familiar with the history of Jewish suffering. I had read countless—truly, countless—books about the Shoah. I had read chronicles detailing the savagery of the Crusaders and the even more bestial behavior of the Cossacks in Khmelnitsky’s day. I’ve written about that side of my education many times in this space, but, as I stood on our friends’ balcony and watched the fireworks, I was suddenly possessed of the sense that I had responded to it all with a single series of gestures. I had gotten married. We had produced a child…and not just any child, but a tzabar, a Yerushalmi, a child who was ushered into the covenant as the nation all around acknowledged unimaginable loss and then went on to see a bright future for itself and for subsequent generations of Israelis.
It was, to say the very least, a fabulous moment. It was the first moment, I think, that I was able to think of myself as a player and not just as a student of other players, as someone who was on the stage and not in the audience, as someone who had finally contributed something meaningful to the history of the House of Israel. Joan and I were on exactly the same page, too: both of us slightly overwhelmed by the whole experience of hosting a b’rit milah on the cusp between regret and resolve…and between inexpressible sadness and irrepressible hope.
The psalmist famously declared that those who sow in tears will yet reap in joy. That evening between Yom Hazikkaron and Yom Ha-atzma·ut all those years ago was the embodiment for me personally, and for Joan too (of course), of that mysterious sentiment. And that is what the juxtaposition of those two days means to me.

A Thessalian Calendar
I based this off a few sources in the Gorgoneia server. I showed what I based everything off of, as well as the names, their corresponding Hebrew month, what that then means as those months are based of zodiac signs, and the deity celebrated during the month’s festival. As such the days of the months will be based off the days into each season of a zodiac sign.
New year starts at Itonios:
Name/Hebrew month/Zodiac/Festival for who?
Ἰτώνιος (Itonios)- Elul, Virgo. Athena Itonia
Πάνημος (Panemos)- Tishri, Libra. Pan(?)
Θεμίστιος (Themistios)- Chesvan, Scorpio. Themis, aspect unknown
Ἀγαγύλιος (Agugulios)- Kislev, Sagittarius. Artemis Agugulaia(?)
Ἀπολλώνιος (Apollonois)- Tevet, Capricorn. Apollo, aspect unknown
Ἑρμαῖος (Hermaois)- Shevat, Aquarius. Hermes, aspect unknown
Λεσχανόριος (Leschanrois)- Adar, Pisces. Apollo Leschanrois
Ἄφριος (Aphrios)- Nisan, Aries. Zeus Aphrios.
Θυῖος (Thuios)- Iyar, Taurus. Dionysus Thuios(?)
Ὁμολώιος (Homoloios)- Sivan, Gemini. Zeus Homoloios
Ἱπποδρόμιος (Hippodromois)- Tamuz, Cancer. Poseidon Hippodromois
Φυλλικός (Phyllikos)- Av, Leo. Apollo Phyllios(?)

April 26, 2021
This Year's First Supermoon,
The 'Pink Moon,' Will Rise On Monday.
From The Article
The Next Full Moon is the Pink Moon, the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, the Fish Moon, the Paschal Moon (for Eastern Christianity), Hanuman Jayanti, Bak Poya, and a Supermoon.
The next full Moon will be late Monday night, April 26, 2021, appearing opposite the Sun in Earth-based longitude at 11:32 p.m. EDT. This will be the next day from the Atlantic Daylight Savings timezone eastward across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia to the International Date Line. Most commercial calendars are based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and will show this full Moon occurring on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. The Moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Sunday night through Wednesday morning.
In the 1930s the Maine Farmer's Almanac began publishing American Indian Moon names for the months of the year. According to this almanac, as the full Moon in April, this is the Pink Moon, named after the herb moss pink, also known as creeping phlox, moss phlox, or mountain phlox. The plant is native to the eastern United States and is one of the earliest widespread flowers of spring.
Other names for this Moon include the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes of North America, the Fish Moon, as this was when the shad swam upstream to spawn.
For Eastern Christianity (which bases its calculations on the Julian Calendar) this is the full Moon before Easter, called the Paschal Moon. This is one of the years where the different calendars used by Western and Eastern Christianity make a difference. Eastern Christianity will be celebrating Easter on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Western Christianity celebrated Easter on Sunday, April 4.
For Hindus, this is Hanuman Jayanti, the celebration of the birth of Lord Hanuman, celebrated in most areas on the full Moon day of the Hindu lunar month of Chaitra, which (in India's time zone) is Tuesday, April 27, 2021.
For Buddhists, especially in Sri Lanka, this full Moon corresponds with Bak Poya, commemorating when the Buddha visited Sri Lanka and settled a dispute between chiefs, avoiding a war.
This Full Moon is a Supermoon
This full Moon is the first of two supermoons for 2021. The term "supermoon" was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and refers to either a new or full Moon that occurs when the Moon is within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to Earth. Since we can't see a new Moon (except when it passes in front of the Sun), what has caught the public's attention in recent decades are full supermoons, as these are the biggest and brightest full Moons for the year.
These two full Moons are virtually tied, with the full Moon on May 26, 2021, slightly closer to the Earth than the full Moon on April 26, 2021, but only by about 98 miles (157 kilometers), or about 0.04% of the distance from the Earth to the Moon at perigee.
Full Moons, New Moons, and Calendars
In many traditional lunisolar calendars, the months change with the new Moon and full Moons fall in the middle of the lunar months. This full Moon is in the middle of the third month of the Chinese calendar and Iyar in the Hebrew calendar. In the Islamic calendar, the months start with the first sighting of the waxing crescent Moon shortly after the New Moon.
This full Moon is near the middle of the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is honored as the month in which the Quran was revealed. Observing this annual month of charitable acts, prayer, and fasting from dawn to sunset is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
As usual, the wearing of suitably celebratory celestial attire is encouraged in honor of the full Moon.
