Quote:
By taking biopsies from long COVID patients before and after exercising, scientists in the Netherlands constructed a startling picture of widespread abnormalities in muscle tissue that may explain this severe reaction to physical activity.
Among the most striking findings were clear signs that the cellular power plants, the mitochondria, are compromised and the tissue starved for energy.
"We saw this immediately and it's very profound," says Braeden Charlton, one of the study's authors at Vrije University in Amsterdam.
The tissue samples from long COVID patients also revealed severe muscle damage, a disturbed immune response, and a buildup of microclots.
"This is a very real disease," says Charlton. "We see this at basically every parameter that we measure."

From the article:
A new study has confirmed what most sexually active gay men will already know: Less of us are using condoms when we have sex compared to ten years ago. The study, published in AIDS and Behavior, was conducted by researchers at the University of Washington. It drew its data from the American Men’s Internet Survey (2014-2019). It looked specifically at men who have condomless anal sex with men who are not on PrEP. The number of men in the study having condomless sex rose by 2.2% each year. However, the rise was greater in younger men (rising 7.2% per year for those aged 15-24 years) and Hispanic men (rising 18%). Overall, condom use remained more popular than PrEP. This might be partly due to barriers to obtaining PrEP, among other factors. Around 15% of the men were taking PrEP. The vast majority of men questioned believed condoms to be “very effective” (60%) or “somewhat effective” (36%) at preventing HIV transmission. However, 24% said they “never” used condoms, compared to 50% who said they “always” or “sometimes” used them. The remainder said they rarely used them. Clearly, there is a large number of guys having condomless sex who are not on PrEP. If their partner is HIV positive and undetectable, they cannot pass on the virus. However, not everyone knows their HIV status or is on treatment. Besides HIV, condoms can also help prevent the transmission of other STIs. The rise in gonorrhea and syphilis diagnoses in the US in recent years is in part related to declining condom use.

Baby formula maker Glerber has come under fire today for their new "Extreme Caffeine Baby Formula" which features 275mg of caffeine per metal "bottle." This is over 274mg more than the FDA recommended level of caffeine for babies.
According to Glerber Spokesperson Herb Glerber III, "Today's babies aren't your grandmother's baby. These babies are extreme to the max and need a more energetic milk or formula than any typical mother's titmeats can naturally provide." When asked for details on health warnings and FDA approval, Mr. Glerber pulled a gun and shot at us before jumping into a Lamborghini and driving away at 98mph through a busy school zone.
So far no medical harm has come to any infants known to have consumed the formula, as none have been found at this time. Most have simply exploded, run away, or transcended space and time with their new ability to transform the formula into the water of life and take their places as the new kwisatz haderach of the day-care center.

A simple blood test can detect Alzheimer’s up to 15 years before symptoms emerge, with experts claiming it could “revolutionise” early diagnosis of the disease.
Swedish trials found the test to be as accurate at detecting the signs of Alzheimer’s as painful lumbar punctures, and better than a range of other tests currently being worked on.
Experts say it could pave the way for a national screening programme for the over-50s, and that current treatments could work better with the cases picked up earlier.
The test works by measuring levels of a protein called p-tau217 in the blood that indicate biological changes taking place in the brain during Alzheimer’s disease.
It could identify patients as likely, intermediate or unlikely to have Alzheimer’s disease and potentially rule out the need for further, more invasive investigations.

OK. Go on Medicaid, and the US will stick your next of kin with your healthcare bills.
The umbrella that melts in the rain may also render your families homeless! After they direct you to get rid of all your money so you qualify!
I'm not thrilled with the idea that Canada could split me from my spouse if we need different levels of care when we get old and need it. I'm really not thrilled with the precarity of our housing situation here. But I am NOT going back to the States unless we win the goddamn lottery, and we don't PLAY the goddamn lottery.
I do not like how unsafe all our options are, and we're doing WELL. We still have SAVINGS.
This is so bad for so many people already and it's not getting better.

From the article:
A measles outbreak in Florida has gripped the state, with confirmed cases popping in two counties even as the state's top doctor flouts federal health guidance. Nine total cases have been confirmed across Broward and Polk counties, according to the Florida Department of Health. Amidst the outbreak, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo has contradicted medical guidance by telling parents they could decide whether or not to send their kids back to the schools with confirmed cases. Ladapo has previously called for a halt to the COVID mRNA vaccines, which federal health officials have repeatedly said are safe and effective. Validating vaccine hesitancy has been a staple of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration, and that hesitancy has trickled down to routine immunizations for schools, experts said. Required immunization reporting for kindergarteners collected by the Florida Department of Health show the extent of that hesitancy over the last five years, as more kindergarteners go to school unvaccinated against measles.

been trying out some meds against migraines and they've been helping tremendouslyyyyy. i went from having headaches 20-25 days a month to like 5-7 days a month and if I have the they are incredibly mild compared to before.
except one of the side effects is that I get stomach aches like pretty regularly, almost daily and it really fucking sucks. i sometimes even wake up because of it. it's this feeling of feeling really bloated and TMI but also gassy lol and like I gotta go to the restroom but can't
there are other side effects as well but i don't care about those cuz I can live with them but the stomach aches are a bit too much honestly
