#Haru could also be so interesting bc he’d be torn between taking down and protecting Makoto

Can’t get this idea out of my head, where Makoto is like a villain and Haru is like a hero/detective. Haru doesn’t know Makoto is kinda evil because they met in a coffee shop and started getting to know each other. I don’t really even know how Haru eventually finds out. But he convinced Makoto to stop whatever he was doing with the power of love and Makoto quits cause he’d rather be with Haru. Makoto is probably like the charismatic unsuspecting type of bad guy, and he ends up running a medicine monopoly, because his patients get addicted and they only go to him.
Part of the idea came from this fic where Makoto started playing a mobile rpg game, and became like the number 1 player because he was nice and no one suspected his schemes lol. If your interested in reading it I can try to find it again.
I adore Makoto and think he’s a ball of sunshine but there’s something so ~fascinating~ about him taking on a morally grey or villainous character role. The big thing with him is that he’d love to charm people and be proud of his seemingly good reputation, but part of being such a professional people-pleaser is being a master manipulator who tries to subtly control the environment. I think part of it too is that it wouldn’t just be him charismatically or openly running the show, y’know? He’s a great leader, but in a supportive sense, like a “humbled” puppeteer behind whatever chaos he’s involved in.
With Haru as the person breaking down Makoto’s case, I feel like it’d start to happen the more he observes Makoto and realizes how many masks he wears depending on the situation — like it’s more than just an overly-sweet demeanor when they go on dates, but moments when Haru catches him almost snapping in rage/frustration but reeling it in almost too quickly. It could even be a rivals-to-lovers thing between hero/villain or detective/criminal where the big shift for Makoto to think about changing comes from realizing Haru is one of the only people who has made him feel like he doesn’t need a mask and now he doesn’t even know who he is at his core without those masks. Soooo much potential !!!
(Also I’m always down for fic recs! I remember one where Mako was an undercover agent and Haru was an unsuspecting photographer that I can try to link later 😌 it’s kiiiinda similar to this concept but not completely; like it’s an adjacent type of story idk)
