Parallel Paradise
Tumblr media
In my last Azur Lane check in, i wrote about how i completed my Iron Blood quest with finally getting that ever illusive Orthant rerun and the surprise addition of U-110 to the Construction Pool. I cannot express how hype i am that i finally completed my Kraut dock. I literally got into this game because or Prinz Eugen so to see how far I've come, in only about two years, legitimately fills me with a sense of accomplishment. I did not expect to enjoy this gacha game so much, especially considering how much of a goddamn chore Fate/Grand Order turned out to be but I'm glad i took the dive. The issue, now, is trying to decide what happens next? Obviously, I'm still an KMS main so whenever an event or ship drops for that faction, i am all over it but what do i do n the meantime? Do i even give a sh*t about other Faction Events? Do i just, i dunno, grind out the other PR ships just for the sake of the grind? Hakuryuu and Chkalov are very interesting. I love a solid Carrier and anytime i can add a Rainbow to any fleet, I am inclined to do so. That last bit will come into play later. Anyway, i was at a loss. Fortunately, Manjuu gave us a brand new Eagle Union event that included a brand new Ultra Rare Carrier. I have a mighty need!
Tumblr media
Or, at least, i did, because you know i made a run at that banner with gusto! And if you’ve been around these parts long enough you know i have the luck of the devil when it comes to Event ships! Parallel Superimposition would prove to be no different. Quite the contrary, actually, this one was straight up gangbusters! I actually had a ton of extra Wisdom Cubes because of the aforementioned completed quest. I figured I'd throw a hundred of them at the banner. That’s about five rolls. On my first attempt, i got two Northampton II so i was feeling pretty lucky. Figured I'd need the other three rolls, for sure, before i even saw a hint of the UR get, just based on rarity odds. Didn’t even need them because, on the second, with a total of forty Cubes spent, i popped another copy of Northampton II and two f*cking Yorktown II! That’s right, i popped two UR ships, on my second roll, with the third Northampton II in between them! I couldn’t believe my f*cking eyes! I've never got a UR so quickly, let alone multiple in succession. I think the earliest i ever got a UR was Musashi and it took four rolls and change? Pretty sure my Ulrich popped after seven attempts but i could be wrong. Either way, it took those last three planned rolls on the current event banner, to get Hammann II. F*cking thing gave me two Ultra Rare ships and three Super Rares for forty Cubes, but took another sixty for an Elite? Whatever, bro. I was still within budget and was able to Limit Break Yorktown II once without using my Rainbow Bulin stash. Still came out ahead!
Tumblr media
All that’s left is Hornet II and Langley II, both of which are basically just unlocks. Hornet II is the Event Shop Ship and Langley II is a Point Accumulation Reward. Langley pops at ten thousand Points and, after the first day, i had a little or three thousand. Considering Hornet II cost eight large, the Rainbow AD-1 Skyraider costs ten thousand, and there’s another ten thousand points worth of Rainbow Priority Five Blueprints, it stands to reason my general grind at these maps will unlock Langley II sooner than later. I am always super tentative when it comes to the Banner ships during events because luck is a fickle mistress. There might come a time when I'm at the mercy of the Pity Draw for that UR but the grind ships are always a get for me. As long as i like them. Hornet II is actually my most anticipated ship in this vent. I just genuinely like her art but I'm not mad at the overall haul i got during Parallel Superimposition. Plus, as a bonus, i was able to level up a lot of my KMS newcomers, too. Prinz Heinrich and Peter Strasser are completely maxed out a 125 after they received quit a boon from the map grind. All in all, I'm pretty content with my decision to make a run at this particular event. Sh*t ended up being so much more than another UR carrier for my Fleet. Also, can I just give an enthusiastic acknowledgment of Heinrich's new costume, Rabbit on Watch? I don't have a lifeguard fetish or anything but, goddamn, that is some nice use of L2D, I must say!

SHIPGIRL APPRECIATION DAY - Kearsarge
Tumblr media
USS Kearsarge. Let's start this post strong: Kearsarge is single-handedly the most unique character in the game (for legal reasons, in my opinion). Her design should already let you know why, but if you aren't seeing why, I will explain.
This post will divert a little bit from the formula I established post-DoY post (the first I did). It will include very, very heavy use of headcanons that are in no way supported by the lore, but I think are neat.
Personality-wise, Kearsarge knows she is superior. She is better than those other shipgirls that have decades of experience. That's simply a fact to her, and since it's a fact; all her actions do not come as arrogant. She just does things - she disregards your orders if she thinks they're not very efficient, she organizes your documents in a way she finds to be perfect regardless of what you prefer, she charges by herself or stays behind depending on the situation.
On occasion, I neglect your will and prioritize the here and now on the battlefield. While you are the Commander, sometimes you have to let your soldiers handle things – the sooner you accept this, the better.
Her approach isn't necessarily wrong, either. Despite this, Kearsarge is a very reliable shipgirl. She is, indeed, strong - her twelve 406mm main guns are accurate and devastating by themselves, but she also has access to a squadron of five F8F Bearcat attack aircraft. Her firepower is incomparable among Eagle Union backliners.
However, her personality doesn't stay like this forever. When you as the player character get closer to her, you discover she's just autistic. She deeply cares about you, but is so expressive about her emotions and trains of thoughts, it's easy to think she's just a self-centered arrogant woman who speaks with a detached tone. She will not outright tell you she's in love with you, but she will make you some borscht! (I should point out Kearsarge is, originally, a ship commissioned by the Soviet Union, hence her Russian influence). That's her love language.
Tumblr media
USS Kearsarge, steel version.
Design-wise, I adore how the artist YD managed to take one of the ugliest ships in World of Warships and turn her into such a beautiful, unique, one-of-a-kind shipgirls. An angel descending from the machine, a seraphim clad in steel and powered by steam. A herald from another timeline, where the Eagle Union necessitated the construction of Kearsarge. Her rigging divided symmetrically in half, her turrets and their support structure taking the shape of 4 wings of white metal, the faux wings and herself connected to a floating halo device to act as a mediator between the flesh and the steel. Her planes up in the air, a ghostly echo. Her arms stretched outwards, "fear not".
In the event Parallel Superimposition the commander visits a simulation based on the anomalous data from the hull of Anchorage. We learnt a lot about Anchorage, Dr. Aoste, Dr. Anzeel, and the Type-II hulls. We also learnt Bon Homme Richard exists in this simulation. Now, I believe this realm to be strictly speaking a simulation - not a real universe. However, when the event ended; TB had managed to gather enough information on Yorktown II, Northampton II, Hornet II, Hammann II and Langley II. Laffey II, as much as she made an appearance, couldn't be studied. I am guessing the same goes for Bon Homme. Who is to say Kearsarge doesn't come from this simulation? Or that she comes from a universe that parallels this simulation?
Tumblr media
Hopefully I shouldn't have to point the obvious similarities between Anchorage's rigging and Kearsarge's rigging. Anchorage is like a cherub accompanying the cyber-divine orchestra of Kearsarge's guns and planes.
-------
THIS WOMAN WILL NOT LEAVE MY MIND I HAVE SO MUCH BRAINROT FOR KEARSARGE
hopefully it's entertaining to read and y'all can see why i like her.

A mushroom cloud rises after a heavy explosion on board the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Lexington (CV-2), 8 May 1942.
This is probably the great explosion from the detonation of torpedo warheads stowed in the starboard side of the hangar, aft, that followed an explosion amidships at 1727 hrs.
Note USS Yorktown (CV-5) on the horizon in the left center, and destroyer USS Hammann (DD-412) at the extreme left.

Storia Di Musica #312 - Kaki King, Legs To Make Us Longer, 2004
Neanderthal stupisce per la dolcezza, All The Landslides Birds Have Seen Since The Beginning Of The World è misteriosa e quasi gotica, fa impressione la sua capacità di creare emozioni con la tecnica e il suono.

Mostly Extensive List of my Comfort Characters
Friends told me to embrace the potential cringe and create a list of characters from media I like that I consider my comfort characters. I'm going to put all of them under a cut since there might be a lot.
If this makes me cringe, then I am cringe, but I am at least free.
Also I will say a lot of my OCs are my comfort characters, but this is for characters that aren't my OCs. Italiced characters are like some of my personal favorite characters.

Parallel Superimposition thoughts
It did a really good job at keeping everything in the cyberspace Very Obviously not real, showing things and conversations that never happened while still keeping it just close enough to reality to leave a little bit of "... what if?" in there. Played out like someone's dying dream until shit the fan; but it wasn't the Arbiter's and it wasn't yours.
Helena apparently having Helena META on speed dial raises some interesting questions about her companion cube thing she has with her SG radar. When she's freaked out she talks to it like it talks back, now we have a tinfoil that it probably was. I can only imagine how those two actually interact now that Helena's aware of her incredibly creepy and dangerous other self for real.
Cyber Memphis realizing it was her real-world self's fault that you're stuck in there and likely going to die because of it then into a near complete psychotic break was great. The events have been getting steadily darker for the Prime Timeline girls, but most of them have been pretty unflappable even if the shrimpier ones get a bit panicked occasionally - they were quite literally born for war, so it's not exactly a surprise they can deal with pressure. Now, though. the stress is starting to show on everyone. They're on the one (1) timeline that has a real chance and a singular fuckup that even incapacitates you at the wrong moment means Game Over for everyone. It's A Lot and good to see some actual impact from that.
The elephant in the room though is Yorktown, Hornet, Northampton, and Hammann coming back which is great for the Union girls... but then we see them being introduced to Enterprise. We even get her Trauma Montage™ with Yorktown narrating how sorry she is that they all died and left her alone to carry everyone that reminds me of this post I made
And then we get Enterprise's reaction, which is literally "..." and then the Hornet Crew™ goes into comic relief mode. She says nothing. Her reaction to it is to completely shut down. Enterprise.exe has stopped. Yorktown has to awkwardly try and close out her monologue in the face of her sister's non-reaction, which made me feel like she was just staring at her with a blank face the whole time.
Which is hilarious but also pretty realistic. I can't imagine any movie tearful reunion if any of my dead people just sort of walked into my room one day. I don't think I'd be able to process it.
This event comes right after the last major Sakura spotlight, which had Akagi fully commit to damning herself for the power to save her people and see Amagi again, because she's that scared and desperate. It was a nice juxtaposition: here's her 'rival' getting their deepest wish on a silver platter and the reaction to it is.... Nothing.
