Having just read up to the storming of the dragon pit I don’t want to say that she didn’t have agency in the war cause it felt like there wasn’t that much focus on HER. The focus always ended up being on daemon more than anything? I dunno I dunno. I don’t vibe with the idea that she lacks agency during the war but I can’t quite explain or back that up lol

As to the charge of laziness I just think it’s more to do with entitlement. She was NAMED heir. She’s the purer Targaryen. She rides a dragon. As far as she’s concerned - the throne the crown kings landing the seven kingdoms are all OWED to her. Why should she have to work for what’s owed? She’s entitled to those things and if you don’t give them to her then you’re a traitor. It would have been a different thing if she had ascended the throne and then proven herself to be a lazy incompetent ruler like her father but we never really get there.

So yeah in story, both book and show, I think her greatest flaw is entitlement not laziness. We don’t really see her turning down responsibility cause she doesn’t feel like doing it, you know? We just see her being denied the opportunity until she just accepts that she’ll get the crown without the proper “work” that supposedly makes a good ruler.

#does any of this make sense #I don’t even know #she makes choices throughout the war #but even though she’s a queen on the board #she’s never really treated as a many player #in book or show #so the choices she makes get kind of glossed over for the ripples/the reactions if that makes sense #she’s interesting to the master writing because of her relation to the men in her life #her sons #her husbands #her father #her hand #her fool #those are the people the story gives action and focus and weight to #like the way the book tells #it you could almost take rhaenyra out of the mix entirely #and the dance would probably still have happened #the show and the book treat her like a pawn in the telling of the story #but in the living of the story she views herself and acts as a queen #do you get it? #I feel like I’m rambling now lol

my mother taught me to crochet when i was young. she was left handed, so she taught me how in the bathroom mirror so her hands would be in the right position.

she learned to crochet from her grandmother, who was right handed. her grandma was the one that originally used the bathroom mirror to teach her granddaughter properly.

i find something poetic about that. here in this bathroom mirror, through generations, we adapt to our young who have a different way of learning and interacting with the world
