Etc. Jam 2023 has finished up in our Discord server, and here are the results! We had a really great turnout, with 27 entries by 11 participants.
6 of those entries were completed within the first 24 hours of the event, and 6 of our participants took on the variety challenge, where they made at least two submissions of different types (e.g. a balloon and a calendar skin)!
A lot of folks tried out making things they'd never made before, and several of the entries were made specifically for the benefit of other aspiring developers! So if you're interested in becoming a ghost developer, be sure to check out the new offerings!
Without further ado, please check under the cut for the entries from this event! You can also read more about the event on it's page of our wiki.

The people of the Shirogane clan do not live long.
Centuries ago, they thought it was due to a curse- a natural thing to think, given their line of work. But in the modern era, they understood it was actually due to a hereditary disease that ravaged members of their main and branch families alike. Either way, the result was the same- most of those in the Shirogane family die before they turn fifty.
Shiro's grandmother, the head of their clan, is an exception.
His parents were not- and neither is Shiro. He knew from an early age that he was doomed to see the same early grave as the rest of his family. He's not afraid of death- he's more afraid of dying without ever making a mark on this world instead. He's born with the stars in his head, always looking up.
He tells his grandmother he does not want to become an exorcist. He wants to be a pilot. He wants to go to space, defying the odds just like those on the Calypso mission did. He knows that there are many in his clan who do not want to let him do this. They talk about his natural talent, his affinity for his clan's work.
His grandmother just smiles and tells him he is free to do as he wishes.
Shiro enrolls in the Galaxy Garrison the following month.
(But his past follows him anyways.)

lmao I was rereading Shell Game and suddenly got smacked in the face with a Batman reference and how it would feel like if dealing with him, while Kei is talking to Aizawa. (Chapter doppelgänger)
I know they’ve definitely been other Batman references by Kei, but this suddenly felt so funny, especially with what’s going down in the latest crossover chapter.
Yep! Kei likes bits of Batman's aesthetic, and maybe some of his spookiness and how it relates to fighting while constantly outnumbered
BUT
she doesn't really...necessarily like Bruce as a person. She can't trust him because she has a half-dozen competing mental profiles of the guy, and getting the guess wrong is how you get Cask of Amontillado'd (like KGBeast) or get your neck broken in the Siberian tundra (KGBeast, again).
Or left on a derailing train. Or plummeting down an empty elevator shaft because whoops "dying of fundamental forces" is the same as the death not being Bruce's fault.
(Hooray, Dark Knight trilogy)
Or maybe the version you end up with is just a cagey asshole who has half the number of sidekicks as expected and also runs a digital panopticon with which to stalk Literally Whoever and also WILL HIT YOU WITH HIS CAR. (Arkham games universe, but TDK!Bruce does at least half of this)
Like, the sheer number of cooks in this kitchen makes for a very hard guessing game. Is the resulting recipe going to put someone into anaphylactic shock? Will it merely scorch the roof of some poor diner's mouth? Will it be totally fine and all the worry was for nothing?
Hard to tell.
Better plan for the worst.
Meanwhile, Aizawa is a ninja high school teacher/pro hero who only has one writer and therefore is not randomly going to whip out complete nonsense and have it called canon via someone citing an elseworlds story written forty years ago. Probably.
Also Kei is about five times meaner in her head than out loud.

i just finished reading "come out of your shell" and i just wanted to say WOW, i haven't read anything this good in??? months??? i just love how you characterized them and the epilogue made me so so happy, fantastic job
omg thank you so much!! 🥺💓💓💓 I put a lot of time and effort and love into it, it's honestly my pride and joy, so I really appreciate you taking the time to come let me know!!! i know i play fast and loose with my "inspired-by" fics, but one of the works I marked as inspired by "come out of your shell" IS a direct sequel (featuring pickle cellar smut), if you haven't seen it yet and you're interested! that's when wings emerge from the crucible chrysalis! :)
but come out of your shell is like... god. it was a perfect storm of "I've been honing my writing in rare pairs and small fandoms for years", combined with a brand new and popular miniseries... that enjoyed WILD success. and was so fun to write. and i made so many cool new fandom friends because of it?? 🥺💖 my heart is truly so full and filthy... 🥰💞
honestly my ego is never recovering from how fast it outstripped my other highest kudos'd fic. the ripples of its influence throughout the fandom make me giddy... (imagine having the highest kudos'd fionna and cake fic... I'm honestly still reeling from the positive reception...)
ANMYWAY. thank you again for your wonderful message!! i still have more in store for my vaguely-interrelated, pseudo-canonical-to-each-other fionna and cake extended universe fics, so I hope you'll continue to enjoy them if they continue to hold your interest! 💗🪲✨

dai is so strong. not talking about violence though i mean the way there's so much pressure on him but he still manages. one step at a time one day at a time, think positively, think proactively, do your very best for not only yourself but also everyone else, and it's never baseless optimism, it's courage in the face of difficulty, it's i want to be able to do something, there has to be something i can do, so i'm going to do everything i can to do it,' that's a completely ordinary yet extremely touching human sentiment that some people don't stretch themselves out to, but so many dnangel characters do, and not just the ones with weird magic bloodlines. that being said, is it unfair for daisuke as a phantom thief, as a kid raised since birth for the sake of a destiny, to have to do a lot of what he's doing? yeah, and dnangel acknowledges this; recognizes this in the form of his 'powers,' his inheritance being a 'curse,' his loneliness and misery and terror whenever he and dark are out of sync and he feels strangled rather than pushed forward by the way he was born and raised to be a phantom thief. the sins of his ancestors persist and become his, dark's existence remains miserable and unchanged for centuries and centuries, his magic is first and foremost a punishment, sleeping beauty pricking her finger on the spinning wheel, the beast for his lovelessness, until his very own love alongside everyone else's cures it and lifts the curse, not just for himself but for dark too.
he couldn't escape the circumstances of his birth, (neither could dark,) but he's always trying to step forward with a retained romantic passion and love for his life and the decisions he can make for himself, the things he can control about his own life - making art even if he isn't talented at it, engaging in new hobbies at every opportunity, sticking close to his friends, utilizing what he's learned since he was born to try to selflessly help, rather than selfishly take and hurt. 'in this world, magic is something born out of human hearts.' daisuke's healing and dark's 'trickery' at its core really isn't supernatural, it's completely ordinary; they're magicians, illusionists, entertainers and comforters, they make what seems impossible possible, they're incredibly skilled and clever, but more than anything they've almost aaaalways had a positive, enduring, and protective attitude. don't be afraid of change, don't be afraid of moving forward, don't hesitate around those that you truly love and appreciate, That's Really Strong!!!!!
