the platonic love that unites you and i is like a constellation in the sky.

“okay, okay, seriously. this is a really bad idea. i mean, what if you like- what if you fall? then what am i supposed to do, huh? drag your dead body all the way to the Apollo cabin?”

Percy laughed at Grover’s panicked words from beneath him. he stood safe on the ground, watching as the other boy rather dangerously climbed up an extremely tall tree. every little slip or low grunt that came from his friend made his heart stop for a second or two. “just- just be careful, okay? don’t die or i’ll be like- so mad at you.”

the two boys made quick eye contact as Percy briefly glanced down at him, an amused grin on his face with his leg halfway up on the next big branch. Grover sighed when he heard Percy laugh at him again. “yeah, yeah, okay. i’ll be careful, i promise.” Grover grumbled at him under his breath, wandering away from the tree – but not too far.

now, Percy was high up in the tree, throwing his head back and sighing at the cool breeze that surrounded him. so far, all was going well. standing at a nearby lake, skipping rocks was Grover. he wasn’t really paying attention to his best friend who was currently up in the trees like a bird.

it all happened in a quick flash. First, Grover heard the abrupt yell of his best friend, then, he saw all of the water that was in the lake fly out in less than a second. after snapping back from his frozen state of shock, he quickly rushed to his friend.

his friend who was sitting on the ground, completely soaked in gross lake water, and sulking like he knew what he did. Grover placed his hands on his hips as he stared at Percy like a disappointed mom. Percy shrank away from his eyes, crossing his arms like a small child and muttering out a quiet ‘don’t.’

a look of amusement flashed over the satyr’s face as he reached his hand to the boy on the ground. grumbling, Percy took his kind offer, pulling himself up to his feet. “didn’t i tell you to be careful?” he chirped. Percy chose to ignore the question, instead, wringing out his soaked flannel and shaking out the water from his head like a dog.

Grover used his arms to shield his head from the water, a dramaticized look of disgust on his face. he yelped, shoving the golden retriever-like boy away from his presence “whatever-” he groaned, “be grateful i didn’t die, at least.” Grover snorted, sadly looking over at the dry, empty lake. “well the lake did.”

Percy followed his gaze over to the deserted lake, grimacing at the obvious lack of water. “sorry about that.” he made a quick flick of his hand and suddenly the lake was full again. not as full or clear as before, but it was the best he could do, considering how new all of his powers were.

a smile rose on Grover’s face as he ran back to the revived lake, picking back up his previously dropped pile of rocks. Percy laughed at his friend, who was quickly able to forget what he’d done, then followed him. the boys spent the rest of their time skipping rocks together – though Grover swears Percy somehow cheated using his water powers.

there wasn’t much noise other than their growing laughter and the splash of water from failed skipping rocks. they formed a challenge, who could get their rock the farthest. let’s just say Grover wasn’t not losing. though nothing was said between the two, they relished in the company of the other, which was more than enough.

after successfully disturbing the poor body of water multiple times, they decided to make their way back to the main part of camp. they walked slowly, endless conversations coming up one after the other. no moment was dull when the boys were with each other.

laughter floated through the air, jokes and teases constantly coming from both boys. Grover softly shoved his shoulder, a bright smile still lingering after his lousy chuckle, a reaction from his best friend’s stupid words. distant voices of the other campers were heard a distance away from them, but they paid no mind to it, continuing to carelessly walk around submerged in their own little world.

“i’m so serious!” Percy loudly exclaimed, ignoring disturbed looks from people around. “my whole mouth was blue! when my mom saw it, she couldn’t stop laughing.” neither could Grover. he had stopped in the middle of his walking, doubled over, painfully holding his stomach. heaved, uncontrollable laughs spilled from his lips as his friend stared at him with boredom.

once Grover had controlled himself, the boys were off again, wandering around the camp with no specific destination in mind. they spent their time together basking in the mere presence of the other, reminiscing on the bright, exciting life they shared together.
