A pic from my first visit this year to my secret cow island. So nice to finally be able to go there again after six months.
The fresh group consists of sixteen sweet heifers and one young bull. Stay tuned for more.

Grazing.
Dig in, fellas. It's been a hard day standing in the fields, in the pens, by the mountains: it was sunny for a time, then cloudy for a time, then rainy for a time. As domestic livestock, that is the way of things. But that's not to say it's not hard work. And all that standing, and experiencing of changing weather conditions, is a famishing enterprise.
It's #grazing time, so bon appétit  x

Kansas Research Shows Reintroducing Bison on Tallgrass Prairie Doubles Plant Diversity
Findings from decades of data also point to resistance to extreme drought.
Decades of research led by scientists at Kansas State University offered evidence reintroducing bison to roam the tallgrass prairie gradually doubled plant diversity and improved resilience to extreme drought.
Gains documented in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science were among the largest recorded globally in terms of species richness on grazing grasslands. The research involved more than 30 years of data collected at the Konza Prairie Biological Station near Manhattan.
Zak Ratajczak, lead researcher and assistant professor of biology at Kansas State, said removal of nearly all bison from the prairie occurred before establishment of quantitative records. That meant effects of removing the dominant grazer were largely unknown, he said.
“Bison were an integral part of North American grasslands before they were abruptly removed from over 99% of the Great Plains,” Ratajczak said...

Grazing XII: The Final Chapter (AO3)
Unlike their last goodbye, there isn’t a little note perched on Klaus’ pillow in place of him. Instead, Caroline wakes to the gentle stirring beneath her and Klaus’ fingers sleepily tracing the curve of her back. His chest rises as he takes a disorientated breath before settling into a contented smile at the sight of her. Caroline can only blink at him in return. She wonders if this is a taste of a normal life. Not the small-town, step-by-step picture book she previously had in mind but the life in which Klaus is present, the life in which she sets foot on his doorstep with every intention to embrace her immortality.
After almost four years, the end is here.

Rabbitkin (or any prey animal) tips- FORAGING!
It’s easy to forget that we have nutritious food right in the yard, park, or the woods! For animals like rabbits or deer or anything that likes to forage we can safely forage If you know your plants well!
(REMEMBER- ALWAYS do your research! Look up different plants/mushrooms and MAKE SURE TO POSITIVELY IDENTIFY any plant before eating!)
Heres some yummy forage that’s super good for you:
🌸 Dandelions! The cute yellow flowers are delicious and all parts are edible! Best in early spring before they get bitter.
🍓🫐 wild berries! Blackberries are easy to identify in the wild by spikey bushes and familiar leaves. The fruits are amazing and the leaves are edible in moderation- makes a lovely tea! Wild strawberries are delicious but hard to find!
☘️ Wild sorrel- one of my favorites! A tangy, yellow-green clover looking plant- tastes like sour patch kids! Contains oxalis acid so eat in moderation!
🧄 Wild garlic- A tall, garlicky smelling stalk, great to put in recipes or eat right off the ground. 🧅 Wild onion- These are easy to identify by dark green stalks and oniony smell. Great right off the ground or in recipes!
Kudzu- Everything but the seeds are edible on a kudzu plant! This is a southern growing vine that has taken over the south- but it’s edible and very delicious!
Nasturtium- I plant these in my garden to repel pests- but the leaves and flowers are delicious and taste like peppers! They grow really fast and are so fun to eat!

In a groundbreaking experiment in the Iberian Peninsula, the Garrano horse along with European bison, both ancient breeds, have joined forces to combat the risk of wildfires. These endangered animals are playing a crucial role in clearing scrubland and vegetation that serve as fuel for devastating blazes.
