2024.04.10 | Day 81/100 days of productivity
Slept in today and that extra sleep seems to have made all the difference to my mood and energy levels (who knew!). I'm hoping to get done with my decision analysis final essay either today or tomorrow so I can edit and move on to my research proposal for qualitative methods (and eventually get back to the research - which I actually enjoy (no offence to my professors)).
Today's goals:
Drink water (2/3)
Finish readings for tomorrow
Finish first draft of decision analysis final essay
Have a good formal dinner :)
Do at least 1 load of laundry
Get enough sleep

jstor, i have a problem.
all i have to do to receive my masters is edit the damn thesis.
i survived and passed my defense last july.
i can’t bring myself to edit and i don’t know why.
i finished my credits, i even moved back to my original city, but i never technically graduated because i haven’t done the final edits for publishing.
what do i do please im so lost
Congratulations on passing your defense last July! That's a monumental achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication you've put into your studies. It's not uncommon to feel a bit lost or overwhelmed at this stage, especially after the intense effort of completing and defending your thesis.
Editing can feel daunting for many reasons: burnout after months (or even years) of focused work, the challenge of shifting from a creative, generative mode into a critical, refining mode, as well as finding the mental space and motivation to tackle those final edits after moving and dealing with such big life changes.
First off, be easy on yourself! You've already accomplished something incredible by passing your defense. Pushing yourself too far past your limits isn't healthy, so I'd suggest starting small. Maybe incorporate an hour or two of editing into your daily/weekly routine, breaking the task down into smaller chunks. Celebrate any progress you make (little treat, perhaps?) and lean on those around you for support.
It may also help to reflect on your journey so far, getting at the root of why you pursued the degree and tackled this research in the first place. It's easy to lose sight of this in the minutiae of actually working on it, so take some time for introspection!
We believe in you and can't wait to see your research contribute to the wider academic conversation.
Good luck, and don't hesitate to lean on the resources available to you as you finalize your thesis. You're almost there!

hi everyone! im almost 2/3 done with my masters (!) and a main part of this semester is prepping for my capstone in the summer semester with a survey.
if you're between the ages of 18 - 35 i ask that you please take this survey - it should take no more than 5 minutes, it's completely anonymous, and it's about scarcity in fashion. i'd also appreciate any reblogs, signal boosts, or even friends/family offline to participate as i need 100 responses by April 23rd, so any and all responses count and it would make a HUGE difference to have you participate!
i thank you in advance for your consideration at all!!

a lot of people in my program really only do their studies and to my other PHD's I urge you: make sure you have other things going on! I have a near endless list of weird hobbies and sports and other interests and I just want you to know that you don't need to eat, sleep, and breathe only your topic and subject! Read a fiction book for fun, paint something badly, find a nice shop to browse in, go for a walk in a green area, take a break and don't rush through it. Pleasure and relaxation are valuable and worth your time. The point of a PhD/Masters is not to work in a hard and unsustainable way until you are done but instead to learn how to be an academic, what type of academic you are, and how you want to live your life/balance your academics and everything else!
When you are studying/working, don't be afraid of being wrong or doing things messily or poorly. On hard days, give yourself leeway, add an extra scoop of sugar to your coffee or tea, and listen to the rocky theme!

2024.02.29 | Day 40/100 days of productivity
Happy leap day!! My day is pretty calm, with an NVIVO workshop in my class this afternoon (which I think I may already know most of) and otherwise just grinding away to get my communicable disease term paper drafted. I don't have any classes tomorrow so I'll just push all my readings for next week until then. After this term paper, the last big assignment I hjave this semester is my thesis proposal, so I should be able to get back into doing more of my research shortly.
I hope you all have a lovely and productive day!
Today's goals:
Qualitative methods class
Draft communicable disease term paper
Drink water (0/2)
Pick up prescription
Buy a few groceries on the way home
Read before bed

Hello!
I am a graduate student working on a final year project about the publishing industry with a focus on Science Fiction and Fantasy.
As part of the project I need to collect data on the degree of interest in those genres and how people interact with the publishing industry.
The survey is only 13—14 questions (depending on what genres you like) and takes less than 5 minutes.
I would really appreciate it if you could take this survey and reblog it so that others can find it.
Thank you so much!

haven't really been going to anatomy, just haven't been feeling it. my grade shouldn't suffer too much from it so thats the only reason i've felt okay with not going. idk other things are just more important like my actual grad level coursework and research responsibilities.
i feel like i have so many things to do before the end of the semester and its not a great feeling, but all i can do is chip away at it day by day. they say the first semester is the hardest, so this is truly the worst it will ever be!
