arthur repealing the ban on magic and sitting merlin and morgana down to figure out who is going to be court sorcerer and ready to mediate a debate but before morgana can even open her mouth, merlin passes to position onto her. arthur and morgana just stare, morgana makes feeble attempts to spark an argument, to instigate merlin to at least fight for it. even arthur is like “…you don’t even want, like, a room or something for your magic work?? none of the perks?? a different position in the court?????” and merlin’s just like “nope! i’m good!” and morgana and arthur exchange a look before arthur asks why. merlin’s answer is that his position, where he belongs, is at arthur’s side. besides. morgana deserves it. she was snubbed from becoming queen so it was only fair.

#in the end merlin continues to serve at arthur’s side as his queen #teehee #just thinking about the implications of arthur being surrounded by those who love power and glory #his father who only looked on him with pride when he conquered an enemy #his sister who went wayward for a bit because of her desire to sit on the throne and used her magic in cruel ways to get there #his uncle who sided with morgana and manipulated arthur to try and gain power through morgana’s coup #versus merlin who was proud of arthur for being arthur #who didn’t need arthur to vanquish enemies to look at him as if he hung the stars and the moon in the night sky #merlin who despite having the power of the gods - who could bend nature to do his bidding - kneeled before arthur and cleaned his boots #merlin’s who even in the end turned down power and recognition for all he had done just to stay at arthur’s side and continue serving him #queen merlin #king arthur #redeemed morgana #merthur #court sorceress morgana #IVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THEM FOR DAYS #HELP MEFJZBAKAKNSNCA #bbc merlin #merlin emrys #arthur pendragon #morgana pendragon

i think the actual disconnect between nie mingjue and jin guangyao is that nie mingjue is dying and knows he's dying and has to stick so so so closely to his morals and virtues or else it'll have been for nothing and then he'll have to come to terms with the fact that maybe he didn't actually have to die after all vs jin guangyao who wants to live, he wants to live and be safe and have all the things he was told he could never have-was told he was never good enough to have-and will do almost anything to make it so. and these are two like irreconcilable point of views right (and both Correct and Wrong at the same time) and so they can't understand each other because they aren't even having the same argument and neither of them can see that

Y'all can keep complaining about the lack of queer representation in anime, and the fact that when there is, it's usually censored. I mean, it breaks my heart to see that in 2022, a certain studio felt the need to cover up a kiss scene with a very convenient shot of a sword (Requiem of the Rose King, I'm looking at you!) Hell, I'm all for demanding more from these studios. It took us a while to get to Yuri On Ice where we had a gay relationship at the forefront (which, might I add, also had a kiss scene that was censored, a choice made outside of the creator's hands), and only about 5 years ago did Bloom Into You get adapted, plus Given shortly after that. Yeah, it's taken way too long for progressive anime to enter the limelight. Sure, there are a few wonderful queer series out there today (ex. Stranger by the Shore & Sasaki and Miyano) but when another series takes a step back from where we are, it's disappointing to say the least. That doesn't mean we should give up hope though. I believe it's important that we're grateful for what we have, and remember that anime won't always spell it out for us (cough cough SK8: the Infinity cough cough), and that's something we're unfortunately going to have to live with. Have hope, my friends. And if you're looking for a pick me up, a David Wald dub is always the way to go!
