AN OPEN LETTER to THE PRESIDENT & U.S. CONGRESS
No more arms transfers! Ceasefire now. The hostages must come home.
637 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!
Last week, President Biden expressed his outrage over the Israeli military’s killing of seven World Central Kitchen workers directly to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Within hours, the Israeli cabinet voted to increase aid deliveries in Gaza — a welcome sea change in its months-long siege that can help tens of thousands of people avoid famine.
There’s no need to wait for the Israeli military to make another deadly decision for President Biden to do all he can to save lives now. President Biden should enforce U.S. law immediately to suspend U.S. military aid to Israel and ensure the indiscriminate killing of aid workers and mass starvation of Palestinians ends today. We need the focus to shift to peace negotiations, rescuing the hostages, and rebuilding.
The U.S. government is likely the only one capable of swaying the Israeli government from deepening the crisis and tipping the entire region into all-out war. It must do so. Americans overwhelmingly want the carnage to stop.
Thanks.

Indian Foreign Policy
India’s foreign policy is based on the principles of amity, collaboration, and peaceful coexistence among all the countries of the world, regardless of their political differences. It aims at preserving positive and healthy relations with all nations while advancing global peace and security. We will outline the fundamentals of Indian foreign policy and its guiding principles in this blog post.
An Introduction to Indian Foreign Policy
India became an independent nation-state by the middle of the 20th century. At that time, Indian leaders formulated a foreign policy with distinct goals and objectives. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first honorable Prime Minister of India, was the founder of this policy because he was concerned about world peace and had a lifelong interest in international affairs. However, the main target of establishing Indian foreign policy is:
To encourage the peaceful and political resolution of global conflicts.
To maintain unity
To oppose the apartheid policy
To promote harmony among people
To stay unaligned and uncommitted
To protest against imperialism
The implementation of this policy entails strengthening political, socio-economic, trade, and defense connections between countries as well as participation in multilateral forums involving several countries. Thus, it is clear that the foreign policy of India is an important factor in shaping various aspects of the nation, including its economy, history, terrain, and even ethos and culture.
Basic Principles of Indian Foreign Policy
The fundamental principles of IFP have withstood the test of time and are firmly established in international law and India's history of foreign policy practice. It has five basic principles, which are described below.
Panchsheel
India aspired to have cordial relations with all nations, especially with the major powers and its neighboring nations. In the process of signing a peace agreement with China, India promoted devotion to the Panchsheel, a set of five guiding principles. The five ideologies included in the Panchsheel are:
Mutual respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Mutual respect and nonviolence.
Mutual respect for privacy and internal concerns.
Mutual benefit and equality.
Harmonious coexistence.
Additionally, Panchsheel was introduced in 1954 and has become the controlling principle of India's international relations. It is also known as the "Five Ethics of Peaceful Coexistence," which are still used to guide Indian foreign policy.

Non-Alignment
One of the main tenets and characteristics of Indian foreign policy is "non-alignment." Choosing not to join the military alliances that the United States of America and the Soviet Union have formed, explains the fundamental aspect of India's upholding neutrality in international affairs.
India desired to avoid these alliances because they were a key component of Cold War politics after the Second World War.
The non-alignment principle was a positive and dynamic idea that substituted for objectivity, non-interference, or segregation.
It declares taking an independent stance on global issues based on the unique circumstances of each situation, but it also makes clear that it is not committed to being swayed by any military alliance.
Moreover, the non-alignment philosophy gained widespread acceptance in many other developing countries. As a result, many nations found it necessary to refrain from joining any military or superpower alliances to preserve their independence in foreign policy.
Anti-Colonialism, Racism, and Imperialism
India has always believed in upholding humankind's equality. The foreign policy of India was affected by its fight for independence from colonial authority as well as its opposition to the negative effects of colonialism and discrimination.
The nation views colonialism and imperialism as threats to international peace and security because it was a victim of both for a long time.
In 1946, India was the first country to raise the subject of apartheid at the UN, which advocated for Indonesia's independence and spearheaded the Asian Relations Conference in support of this cause.
14 African nations were freed from the shackles of colonialism in 1964 as a result of India's persistent efforts through the NAM and other international forums.
Furthermore, the notorious apartheid policy in South Africa was strongly criticized by India. Not only did India sever diplomatic ties with South Africa in 1949, but it also used its clout to push for the imposition of broad sanctions on the racist regime in South Africa that discriminated against the country's white majority.

Peaceful settlement of international disputes
One of the cornerstones of Indian foreign policy is its unwavering belief in the peaceful resolution of international problems. This notion has been incorporated into the UN Charter, the Directive Principles of State Policy, and the Indian Constitution.
However, India's foreign policy is built on the concept that foreign militaries should not be involved in resolving international issues.
India was instrumental in mediating the Korean War and backed negotiations to resolve the Palestine conflict, conflicts over the countries' shared borders, and other similar disputes and issues.
Foreign Economic Aid
India deeply respects international law and/or the UN's tenets of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and the sovereign equality of all nations.
India contributed significantly to the decolonization process and actively participated in United Nations peacekeeping efforts, which helped to maintain international peace.
When India presented its nuclear disarmament plan to the UN in 1988, it was incredibly ambitious. Besides, the nation continues to remain dedicated to the goal of global disarmament even though the other UN members do not approve of the idea.
Conclusion
It is understood that the above-mentioned principles seek to realize the main objectives of India's post-independence foreign policy. By extending these concepts, India may meet its objectives and continue to have positive relations with other nations. India may thus achieve success in all spheres, including politics, economics, and strategy, and, in the future, become a superpower.

October 19, 2023: It is truly sad to see so much wanton violence occurring throughout the globe. Instead of waging war, the various nations of the world should practice genuine diplomacy and wage peace! Endeavor to win hearts and minds with food & medicine, not with bombs & bullets. Violence only begets more violence. We are no longer in the brutal 20th Century. We should have learned from its many hard lessons as we move further ahead into the 21st Century. #WagePeace 💙🌍💚
