Biden’s Entire Presidential Agenda Rests on Expansive Spending Bill (NYT) Biden’s entire presidential agenda is riding on the reconciliation bill being crafted in Congress right now. No president has ever packed as much of his agenda, domestic and foreign, into a single piece of legislation as President Biden has with the $3.5 trillion spending plan that Democrats are trying to wrangle through Congress over the next six weeks,” Tankersley writes. “It is almost as if President Franklin D. Roosevelt had stuffed his entire New Deal into one piece of legislation, or if President Lyndon B. Johnson had done the same with his Great Society, instead of pushing through individual components over several years. If he succeeds, Biden’s far-reaching attempt could result in a presidency-defining victory that delivers on a decades-long campaign by Democrats to expand the federal government to combat social problems and spread the gains of a growing economy to workers. If he fails, he could end up with nothing. As Democrats are increasingly seeing, the sheer weight of Mr. Biden’s progressive push could cause it to collapse, leaving the party empty-handed, with the president’s top priorities going unfulfilled. … If Mr. Biden’s party cannot find consensus on those issues and the bill dies, the president will have little immediate recourse to advance almost any of those priorities.
Child care in the US is a ‘broken market,’ Treasury report finds (Yahoo Money) A Treasury Department report this week characterized the U.S. child care system as “unworkable” as Democrats push reform that experts say is an “overdue and critical investment.” The average American family with at least one child under age 5 uses 13% of their income to pay for child care, according to the report, nearly double the 7% that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services considers affordable. Additionally, less than 20% of the children eligible for the Child Care and Development Fund—a federal assistance program for low-income families—are getting that funding. “Child care is a textbook example of a broken market, and one reason is that when you pay for it, the price does not account for all the positive things it confers on our society,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement on Wednesday. “When we underinvest in child care, we forgo that; we give up a happier, healthier, more prosperous labor force in the future.”
Inspiration4 Astronauts Beam After Return From 3-Day Journey to Orbit (NYT) After three days in orbit, a physician assistant, a community college professor, a data engineer and the billionaire who financed their trip arrived back on Earth, heralding a new era of space travel with a dramatic and successful Saturday evening landing in the Atlantic Ocean. The mission, which is known as Inspiration4, splashed down off the Florida coast at 7:06 p.m. on Saturday. Each step of the return unfolded on schedule, without problems. Within an hour, all four crew members walked out of the spacecraft, one at a time, each beaming with excitement as recovery crews assisted them.
Haitians on Texas border undeterred by US plan to expel them (AP) Haitian migrants seeking to escape poverty, hunger and a feeling of hopelessness in their home country said they will not be deterred by U.S. plans to speedily send them back, as thousands of people remained encamped on the Texas border Saturday after crossing from Mexico. Scores of people waded back and forth across the Rio Grande on Saturday afternoon, re-entering Mexico to purchase water, food and diapers in Ciudad Acuña before returning to the Texas encampment under and near a bridge in the border city of Del Rio. Junior Jean, a 32-year-old man from Haiti, watched as people cautiously carried cases of water or bags of food through the knee-high river water. Jean said he lived on the streets in Chile the past four years, resigned to searching for food in garbage cans. “We are all looking for a better life,” he said.
Three Weeks After Hurricane Ida, Parts of Southeast Louisiana Are Still Dark (NYT) For Tiffany Brown, the drive home from New Orleans begins as usual: She can see the lights on in the city’s central business district and people gathering in bars and restaurants. But as she drives west along Interstate 10, signs of Hurricane Ida’s destruction emerge. Trees with missing limbs fill the swamp on either side of the highway. With each passing mile, more blue tarps appear on rooftops, and more electric poles lay fallen by the road, some snapped in half. By the time Ms. Brown gets to her exit in Destrehan 30 minutes later, the lights illuminating the highway have disappeared, and another night of total darkness has fallen on her suburban subdivision. For Ms. Brown, who works as an office manager at a pediatric clinic, life at work can feel nearly normal. But at home, with no electricity, it is anything but. “I keep hoping every day that I’m going to go home and it’ll be on,” she said. Three weeks have passed since Hurricane Ida knocked down electric wires, poles and transmission towers serving more than one million people in southeast Louisiana. In New Orleans, power was almost entirely restored by Sept. 10, and businesses and schools have reopened. But outside the city, more than 100,000 customers were without lights through Sept. 13. As of Friday evening there were still about 38,000 customers without power, and many people remained displaced from damaged homes.
Favela centennial shows Brazil communities’ endurance (AP) Dozens of children lined up at a community center in Sao Paulo for a slice of creamy, blue cake. None was celebrating a birthday; their poor neighborhood, the favela of Paraisopolis, was commemorating 100 years of existence. “People started coming (to the city) for construction jobs and settled in,” community leader Gilson Rodrigues said. “There was no planning, not even streets. People started growing crops. It was all disorganized. Authorities didn’t do much, so we learned to organize ourselves.” The favela’s centennial, which was marked on Thursday, underscores the permanence of its roots and of other communities like it, even as Brazilians in wealthier parts of town often view them as temporary and precarious. Favelas struggle to shed that stigma as they defy simple definition, not least because they evolved over decades. Paraisopolis is Sao Paulo’s second-biggest favela, home to 43,000 people, according to the most-recent census, in 2010. Recent, unofficial counts put its population around 100,000.
The barbecue king: British royals praise Philip’s deft touch (AP) When Prince Philip died nearly six months ago at 99, the tributes poured in from far and wide, praising him for his supportive role at the side of Queen Elizabeth II over her near 70-year reign. Now, it has emerged that Philip had another crucial role within the royal family. He was the family’s barbecue king—perhaps testament to his Greek heritage. “He adored barbecuing and he turned that into an interesting art form,” his oldest son Prince Charles said in a BBC tribute program that will be broadcast on Wednesday. “And if I ever tried to do it he ... I could never get the fire to light or something ghastly, so (he’d say): ‘Go away!’” In excerpts of ‘Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers’ released late Saturday, members of the royal family spoke admiringly of the late Duke of Edinburgh’s barbecuing skills. “Every barbecue that I’ve ever been on, the Duke of Edinburgh has been there cooking,” said Prince William, Philip’s oldest grandson. “He’s definitely a dab hand at the barbecue ... I can safely say there’s never been a case of food poisoning in the family that’s attributed to the Duke of Edinburgh.” The program, which was filmed before and after Philip’s death on April 9, was originally conceived to mark his 100th birthday in June.
Relations between France and the U.S. have sunk to their lowest level in decades. (NYT) The U.S. and Australia went to extraordinary lengths to keep Paris in the dark as they secretly negotiated a plan to build nuclear submarines, scuttling a defense contract worth at least $60 billion. President Emmanuel Macron of France was so enraged that he recalled the country’s ambassadors to both nations. Australia approached the new administration soon after President Biden’s inauguration. The conventionally powered French subs, the Australians feared, would be obsolete by the time they were delivered. The Biden administration, bent on containing China, saw the deal as a way to cement ties with a Pacific ally. But the unlikely winner is Britain, who played an early role in brokering the alliance. For its prime minister, Boris Johnson, who will meet this coming week with Biden at the White House and speak at the U.N., it is his first tangible victory in a campaign to make post-Brexit Britain a player on the global stage.
Hong Kong’s first ‘patriots-only’ election kicks off (Reuters) Fewer than 5,000 Hong Kong people from mostly pro-establishment circles began voting on Sunday for candidates to an election committee, vetted as loyal to Beijing, who will pick the city’s next China-backed leader and some of its legislature. Pro-democracy candidates are nearly absent from Hong Kong’s first election since Beijing overhauled the city’s electoral system to ensure that “only patriots” rule China’s freest city. The election committee will select 40 seats in the revamped Legislative Council in December, and choose a chief executive in March. Changes to the political system are the latest in a string of moves—including a national security law that punishes anything Beijing deems as subversion, secession, terrorism or collusion with foreign forces—that have placed the international financial hub on an authoritarian path. Most prominent democratic activists and politicians are now in jail or have fled abroad.
The Remote-Control Killing Machine (Politico/NYT) For 14 years, Israel wanted to kill Iran’s top nuclear scientist. Then they came up with a way to do it while using a trained sniper who was more than 1,000 miles away—and fired remotely. It was also the debut test of a high-tech, computerized sharpshooter kitted out with artificial intelligence and multiple-camera eyes, operated via satellite and capable of firing 600 rounds a minute. The souped-up, remote-controlled machine gun now joins the combat drone in the arsenal of high-tech weapons for remote targeted killing. But unlike a drone, the robotic machine gun draws no attention in the sky, where a drone could be shot down, and can be situated anywhere, qualities likely to reshape the worlds of security and espionage.
Israeli army arrests last 2 of 6 Palestinian prison escapees (AP) Israeli forces on Sunday arrested the last two of six Palestinian prisoners who escaped a maximum-security Israeli prison two weeks ago, closing an intense, embarrassing episode that exposed deep security flaws in Israel and turned the fugitives into Palestinian heroes. The Israeli military said the two men surrendered in Jenin, their hometown in the occupied West Bank, after they were surrounded at a hideout that had been located with the help of “accurate intelligence.” The prisoners all managed to tunnel out of a maximum-security prison in northern Israel on Sept. 6. The bold escape dominated newscasts for days and sparked heavy criticism of Israel’s prison service. According to various reports, the men dug a hole in the floor of their shared cell undetected over several months and managed to slip past a sleeping prison guard after emerging through a hole outside the facility. Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip have celebrated the escape and held demonstrations in support of the prisoners. Taking part in attacks against the Israeli military or even civilians is a source of pride for many Palestinians, who view it as legitimate resistance to military occupation.
Jaw-dropping moments in WSJ's bombshell Facebook investigation (CNN Business) This week the Wall Street Journal released a series of scathing articles about Facebook, citing leaked internal documents that detail in remarkably frank terms how the company is not only well aware of its platforms’ negative effects on users but also how it has repeatedly failed to address them. Here are some of the more jaw-dropping moments from the Journal’s series. In the Journal’s report on Instagram’s impact on teens, it cites Facebook’s own researchers’ slide deck, stating the app harms mental health. “We make body image issues worse for one in three teen girls,” said one slide from 2019, according to the WSJ. Another reads: “Teens blame Instagram for increases in the rate of anxiety and depression ... This reaction was unprompted and consistent across all groups.” In 2018, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said a change in Facebook’s algorithm was intended to improve interactions among friends and family and reduce the amount of professionally produced content in their feeds. But according to the documents published by the Journal, staffers warned the change was having the opposite effect: Facebook was becoming an angrier place. A team of data scientists put it bluntly: “Misinformation, toxicity and violent content are inordinately prevalent among reshares,” they said, according to the Journal’s report.

You know what the coronavirus pandemic hasn't stopped? The Hong Kong protests.
In fact, the protests have ramped up bc the CCP has passed on today, May 28th 2020 (HKT), the death sentence for Hong Kong, i.e. the most sinister plan to take away Hongkongers’ freedoms while we're all busy dealing with the coronavirus. Remember the now-withdrawn extradition law amendment bill (ELAB) that sparked the anti-ELAB protests last year? This new plan not only does that, but it even unleashes a whole new range of assault power.
No, the CCP isn't gonna crack down on Hongkongers with visible violence. They've learnt from the disastrous PR management of the June 4th / Tiananmen Massacre. Also, they need a better excuse for interfering in Hong Kong, 1 of the largest international financial centres and the gateway for the CCP to gain foreign currency and break into global financial markets.
Instead, the CCP’s plan is to force a "national security law" in Hong Kong like what they've been using in mainland China, bypassing Hong Kong’s legislature. The CCP leadership has already passed this law today, May 28th (HKT) and can sign it into effect as soon as early June.
We don’t know how much longer we can continue accessing international communication sites, which are banned in mainland China but freely accessible in Hong Kong, especially Google, WhatsApp, Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. If we suddenly go silent about our fight for democracy, you can assume the censorship resulting from the "national security law" has taken effect.
Who’s gonna define that "national security law"? Most likely the CCP. They have their own legal system, instead of the common law system that HK uses based on the UK system. The CCP has an abominable track record of arbitrarily defining the law to persecute dissidents, violating human rights in the process. They have various means of silencing dissidents even if they manage to escape China. Well known dissidents include:
LIU Xiaobo, a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
HUANG Qi and TAN Zuoren, who advocated for an investigation into corruption in school construction following the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.
LI Wangyang, who took part in Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, tortured while in jail for 22 years and even still kept under surveillance after being released from prison.
WANG Quanzhang, a human rights lawyer who defends political activists and victims of police torture.
LEE Ming-che, a Taiwanese rights activist who promotes human rights and democracy online.
HU Jia, who posted articles on social issues which criticises the CCP.
WANG Yi (pen name: WANG Shuya), a Christian pastor who founded and led one of the well known underground churches in mainland China.
Tashi WANGCHUK, a Tibetan language education activist.
Currently, Hong Kong is the only city among all technically CCP-ruled regions where your freedoms and human rights are protected in practice (though fast eroding) with judicial independence (also starting to skew) following international law.
After the "national security law" passes, Hongkongers will lose all our fundamental freedoms and rights, including but not limited to:
Freedom of expression.
The right to peaceful assembly.
Freedom of the press.
Freedom of thought.
Rights against arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.
The right against torture; and even,
The right to life, liberty and security of person.
Our fight against the CCP will become illegal, since we'll no longer be able to monitor and speak out against the CCP and CCP-backed HK government. Our very existence as Hongkongers could be seen as a rebellion. Hong Kong today, the world tomorrow.
Everyone, no matter your nationality, will no longer be safe from the CCP. The CCP threatens international law. The proposed law plans to allow CCP agents to work in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is one of the largest international travel hubs. Whoever lives in, or simply passing through Hong Kong, could be kidnapped and transported to mainland China if the CCP thinks you’re a threat. Does that sound familiar? Yeah, bc that’s the exact potential loophole we criticised during the anti-ELAB protests. In fact, this kind of abduction already happened in 2015, in the Causeway Bay Books disappearances which include LAM Wing-kee and GUI Minhai. The booksellers were persecuted for selling books on politics, human rights, criticism of the CCP leadership, and any subject that the CCP leadership didn’t like.
After the "national security law" passes, we'll no longer have the freedom to raise the alarm to the world about new epidemics first popping up in mainland China, like the coronavirus now and SARS in 2003 (more from the WHO archive). Fun fact: Hongkongers have been managing the coronavirus relatively well precisely bc we don't trust the CCP-backed HK gov and we’ve been taking preventive measures way before it advises us to, based on previous experience with SARS.
We’ll no longer have the right to be assumed innocent until proven guilty in the court, not even the right to fair trial and equality under the law, since HK will no longer have an independent judicial system under the separation of powers. Hong Kong is run on the rule of law but the CCP runs on the rule by law, and the CCP has increasingly pressured HK’s judges. Foreign judges will be banned from national security cases, likely bc they are more likely to uphold the rule of law and independent judiciary.
We'll no longer have the freedom to talk about the truth. Instead, we’ll be forced to censor ourselves and substitute the truth with CCP approved propaganda. The CCP knows who controls the truth controls society. The coronavirus? “No, it's spread to China by the US armed forces. It's a part of their plan to frame the CCP.” Banning TikTok and Huawei? “They don't cause security or privacy issues. There's no censorship on the platforms provided through these technologies. The ‘accusations’ are a part of an international plan to frame the CCP.” (Notice a pattern here?) Just 3 days ago (May 25, 2020), the Hong Kong exam board, which is independent from the Education Bureau, was forced to cancel a public exam question about Japan’s roles in the development of China from 1900 up to WWII bc it “hurts Chinese people’s” (aka CCP’s) “esteem and feelings”.
We'll no longer have the freedom to connect with the international community (Joshua WONG, Hong Kong activist) and different cultures with open minds, as the CCP looks down on the values and impacts of non-CCP-approved-Chinese cultures. It has an insatiable need to dominate the world through homogeneity, seizing natural resources, and economic expansion. Just look at how the CCP treats Uyghurs and Tibetans. Read about the Belt and Road Initiative especially in Africa - it's practically CCP colonialism. Then look at how the CCP, by building dams in upstream Mekong River, has caused a drought in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The CCP keeps claiming without proof that Hongkongers who want democracy are a minority (Spoiler: We aren't. At least 2 million residents out of 7.5 million, i.e. over 1 in 4 residents, marched for democracy on June 16, 2019. Remember?) are influenced by Western chaos agents, bc the CCP can't afford citizens thinking critically, criticizing and holding them accountable for their actions. Case in point: the June 4th / Tiananmen Massacre. The CCP-backed HK gov has extended the ban on social gatherings until (you guessed it) June 4th, which is rumoured to stop people from holding vigils, even though daily new coronavirus cases are in single digits and schools are reopening a week before.
We'll no longer have the freedom to maintain our identity of being Hongkongers, since according to CCP logic, being local / Hongkongers means identifying against CCP-controlled China → challenging and rebelling against the CCP → directly threatening CCP’s authority → enemy of CCP. The most conspicuous symbols? The Hong Kong anthem, Glory to Hong Kong. And Cantonese, the native language of over 90% of Hongkongers. A similar case has already happened with Tibetan culture and language: Tashi WANGCHUK, a Tibetan language education activist, was persecuted in 2018 simply for advocating to preserve his own heritage.
(Side note: If you ask if somebody speaks Chinese, it's like asking if they speak Asian or European. “Chinese” encompasses a group of languages which include Cantonese, Taiwanese and Mandarin, which currently many people refer to as “Chinese”. If you start talking in mainland-Chinese accented Mandarin to Hongkongers without asking, you'll get responses ranging from confused / pained replies in most likely English, often Cantonese, or rarely, Mandarin; the side eye; the silent treatment; or even a glare. We’re far more welcoming if you speak Taiwanese-accented Mandarin though.)
Hongkongers will keep fighting for our rights, and we need reinforced international support in our most urgent battle. So what can you do to stand with us?
1. Chris PATTEN, the last governor of Hong Kong under British rule, has led a joint statement to protest against the CCP’s move to force the "national security law" in Hong Kong. As of writing on May 28th, the day of passing the law, the joint statement's been co-signed by over 618 political representatives and academics from 33 countries, including the UK, the US, the EU, Canada, Australia, Russia and the rest of Asia. Please write to encourage your local policymaker to cosign the letter (template linked in-text).
2. Sign petitions that support our fight for freedom, e.g. international sanctions against the CCP, the CCP-backed Hong Kong government, and the Hong Kong Police Force.
3. Continue making posts in support of Hongkongers on your regular social media sites, esp Twitter, where there's a higher chance of politicians seeing your posts.
Tumblr media
Yeah, like Matan EVENOFF, who tricked the NBA dance cam into streaming support for Hong Kong.
4. Report content spreading pro-CCP propaganda about the Hong Kong democracy movement; report both the comment / post and the account. Some common insults pro-CCP trolls use: “cockr**ch” (dehumanizing Hong Kong protestors); “sb” (initials of “d**chebag” in Mandarin); “nmsl” (initials of “Your mum is dead” in Mandarin); “biss” (a contraction of “must d*e” in Mandarin); and insinuating in any way that anyone in support of the protests is a “servant” or a “pet” of foreign politicians. People have mentioned that on Twitter, reports on pro-CCP troll content are more thoroughly followed up on and the content more likely to be removed. I've found that on Instagram, reporting as spam has a higher removal rate than reporting to other relevant categories.
5. Stay updated with the situation on HK by following independent and/or pro-democracy journalists in HK:
Hong Kong Free Press (In English. Official website / Twitter @hongkongfp / Instagram @hongkongfp / Youtube @hongkongfp / Facebook @hongkongfp)
The Stand News (Mostly in Chinese, but you don’t need to know Chinese to understand their infographics. Official website / Twitter @standnewshk / Instagram @thestandnews / Youtube @standnewshk / Facebook @standnewshk)
RTHK News (In both English and Chinese news; publicly funded. As of May 28th 2020, it has still maintained objective reporting, but this could change for the worse quickly bc the CCP-backed HK government has plans to interfere in its editorial independence. Official website / Twitter @rthk_enews / Facebook @RTHKEnglishNews)
Guardians of Hong Kong / Be Water Hong Kong (a volunteer page that translates news from Chinese to English; it updates quickly. Official website / Twitter @BeWaterHKG / Instagram @guardiansofhk / Facebook @BeWaterHongKong)
No matter what ultimately happens to Hongkongers, you're helping us make history. And even if Hongkongers still lose in the end, promise us that you'll continue fighting for us.
Remember us for centuries.

Pandemic Pregnancy by Jess Sirizzotti ‘10 (@JezRebelle)
Having your first kid during a global pandemic makes for a very weird experience. Though the much anticipated “quarantine baby boom” turned out not to be the reality, there were still many pregnancies that started, continued, or wrapped up in 2020-2021.
Being pregnant during a pandemic is about as isolating as you’d expect. Reduced immunity plus *gestures vaguely* everything meant that a lot of people grew a person in unprecedented ways. What I struggled with the most (beyond the overarching panic and dread of a world on fire) was that there was no benchmarking. I could have made it nine months at work before telling anyone, because they only saw me on video conference from the clavicle up. There were no hospital tours, no childbirth classes, no expectant parenting groups.
Whenever you’re going through it, there seems to be no middle ground between dry, evidence-based medicine and projecting yourself entirely into the astral plane for communing with the ancestors. Here are a few things that helped me through my pregnancy, and some things I wish I’d known earlier.

There are plenty of guides about how much you should have saved or what kind of physical shape you should be in. Some of that is helpful.
Oddly missing from those guides is “get a handle on your traumas.” Talk to a therapist. Talk to a partner. Talk to yourself in a diary where you ask yourself questions about what you want to carry with you and what terrifies you about having a kid. There are questionnaires for people donating living organs, and it does not hurt to say, “Hey, if there is a problem with ANY OF THE MYRIAD OF THINGS THAT CAN GO WRONG, how would I work through those feelings? What are the boundaries I want for this process that will make me feel safer or in control?””
If you’re getting pregnant with someone who will raise this kid with you, get into it with them. Have very specific conversations about what you will do about parental leave, diapers, daycare, requests for tattoos from a twelve-year-old. My husband and I would read the Care & Feeding parenting column from Slate, debating how we would handle the conundrums of different letters before getting the “answer” from the columnist.
Also, get as full a picture of family pregnancy as you can. You might know your own birth story, but what about the other half of the genetics you’ll be juggling? I, personally, managed to mash up my MIL’s hyperemesis gravidarum and my mom’s gestational diabetes which has been...not a great time.
And ask *lots* of questions. I had pretty low-stakes issues making it into the world, but it turns out all my dad’s generation of siblings all needed to stay in the NICU. My dad had multiple full-body blood transfusions in his first days. That would have been helpful to know!
That said, what I was most shocked to learn is that there is no way to know what kind of pregnancy you’re going to have until you’re in it. Even if you’ve had a kid before—you can have wildly different experiences! There’s literally no way to know in advance!
Pro tip: you can’t know for certain what pregnancy will be like for you, but getting a broad picture can help it seem less like a cliff jump into the unknown.
Getting pregnant will take longer than you think
Once again, for those in the back, GETTING PREGNANT WILL TAKE LONGER THAN YOU THINK.
For starters, you will need to stop not getting pregnant, which has been the focus of most young adult lives since your fertility started. I had to get my IUD removed and also get revaccinated for a bunch of things (rubella, flu, tetanus). If you were on the pill, it may take a few months to get everything out of your system. Then, you will do something to try to get pregnant and wait for two weeks. Whether it takes two weeks, two months, or ten years—it will feel like a very long time.
Especially because by this point, I felt ready to have a child. I looked at the calendar and thought, “Oh good, the kid will be X horoscope sign. They’ll have their birthday during the school year. Their birthday will be X year, and that will be easy to remember.” I made plans.
And then I just...didn’t get pregnant. And kept not getting pregnant. Every month of getting my period was so frustrating. I had charted my cycle! I had taken my temperature to figure out if I was ovulating! I swallowed these giant prenatal vitamins that are the size of a human toe!
Some people do get pregnant instantly, and many blessings on their ultra-efficient plumbing. Some people get pregnant when they don’t want to, and they should be able to have a choice about whether to have those kids.
For most people, there will be a while between deciding to have a child through pregnancy and getting one started. It is happening everywhere, to countless people, and is one of the hardest, loneliest, most unintelligible experiences—made worse by the fact that people are shoving their feet into their own faces around you for the entire experience. You’re surrounded by people getting pregnant (magically! easily! with barely a whisper of effort!), people asking you when you will become pregnant, people congratulating you on not being pregnant because you can go out, drink, get really into aerial silks, etc. And you will have to not punch them in the face.
If you are under 35, most doctors will not even talk to you about fertility issues until you have tried for a year. That’s a minimum of twelve cycles of trying, twelve “I feel really good about this month” conversations, twelve pregnancy tests that say you’re not pregnant, twelve months at a job you may not like but stay at because they have good parental leave benefits or insurance coverage.
After a year (and after you get on their schedule) a fertility specialist can offer you fun adventures like getting dye injected into your fallopian tubes to see if they’re blocked, approval to shoot yourself up with expensive hormones (at home! with a real needle!), and any of the other amazing methods technology and medicine have discovered that tweak any of the multitude of handoffs that need to happen for a pregnancy to “take.”
If I can ask one thing, assume at least one person in earshot of your public conversation is trying to get pregnant and can’t—and be a little kinder.
Pro tip: get the cheaper pregnancy tests with lines rather than the electronic ones with words, because there are few bigger downers than seeing “NOT PREGNANT” month after month.
Find a practitioner you like
Because eventually, you will want to strangle them. It’s important to start with someone you like, so that the strangling phase will be late in the pregnancy and not a sustained hatred for nine full months.
Whether you’re pregnant or working with a reproductive specialist, having someone who listens to you will help. Some people cannot deal with hippie woo woo, some cannot imagine a pregnancy that’s all medical jargon. If you’re a person of color or want to have certain cultural traditions respected from the get-go, vetting at the beginning can avoid being at loggerheads later. Take some time to reflect on good and bad medical experiences you’ve had, and if you have options, choose someone who will not make you hyperventilate every time you have an appointment.
For me, I knew I needed a doctor who would not give me a hard time about weight gain. I have a history of disordered eating and (pre-pregnancy) was competing as a super heavyweight lifter, so am used to plenty of unsolicited opinions about my weight and what I should be doing with it. Pregnancy is fraught enough to take a single off-hand comment to an extreme, and I was deeply uninterested in negotiating an anorexia relapse while battling all the pregnancy changes.
If you have some time, shuffle up your pre-pregnancy appointments to get a feel for different doctors. I pulled up ZocDoc for my insurance network and came up with some finalists: had my annual exam by one, my IUD taken out by another, and my MMR re-vaccine done by a third. I knew my practice was right for me when the doctor offered to take all weight measurements patient-blind for the entire pregnancy.
Pro tip: think about what style of doctoring would make you feel better during this time, and give yourself the gift of one less thing to stress about.
Taking information in
Like the best of us, I enjoy a Wikipedia rabbit hole. I’m an especially good finder and am frequently tagged in as the friend who can unearth the secret Tumblr or yearbook photo of an elusive crush. I can find anything, and have a Jeopardy-level mental trapper keeper for bizarre edge-cases.
This is...not great for pregnancy, especially when unleashed on the “seems legit” constellation of mommy blogs. There are a million things that can go wrong with a pregnancy, and past a certain point, knowing more does not make you more likely to avoid or survive them.
Think of it like a fractal. Having the general shape of the tree: useful. Hyperfocusing so hard on one of the branches that you lose days in front of the computer screen, diving deeper into medical texts and unconfirmed narratives until you completely glaze over: less so.
Knowing this about myself helped me manage the unceasing amount of feedback offered by everyone from doctors to bystanders. I limited myself to one book (Emily Oster’s Expecting Better, which is wonderful), a doctor I trusted, and small doses of the Wellesley pregnancy group. I still couldn’t stop myself from reading every op-ed about miscarriage and stillbirth, but I was able to process them as things I was choosing to read instead of a compulsion I could not turn off.
Pro tip: really think about how much information serves you. It can feel like knowing every little thing will make you an expert who is ironclad against any malady. That’s, unfortunately, not how it works.
Sending information out
Like information gathering, you’ll want to decide how, when, and who to share information with. Having a pandemic pregnancy gave me a lot more power over when I disclosed than I would have had normally—I was sick as hell and it would have been a first-month discussion at work rather than a third-month one. It has allowed others to have entire pregnancies in private, only announcing when the baby has been delivered.
I found it helpful to think of pregnancy updates in concentric rings: my husband and I in the innermost circle, immediate family and some friends next, wider friend group and extended family, and then everyone else. I didn’t have to give minute-by-minute updates to everyone in the world if I didn’t want to, and a quick “Oh actually that’s private” was usually enough to keep any especially nosy questions to a minimum.
There were people who surprised me with wanting to know much more, and some who heard “baby” and unsubscribed. Both are fine!
Pro tip: if at all possible, curate a group of friends who are far from having first kids so that you can be assured of a rapt audience of “WHAT can happen??” Plus, at least one friend with a recent kid who’s very organized who can tell you what’s helpful to buy and what is BS.
Particular pandemic weirdness (good and bad)
While it has been lonely, it has also been wonderfully private. Some particular strange markers:
It is very odd to go from several months of zero physical contact with anyone outside my apartment directly into an intravaginal ultrasound.
My husband is going to meet our doctor at the delivery, because no one except patients is allowed past the lobby at our practice.
I will likely not need to buy any maternity clothes, because my pandemic outfits of blousy shirts and stretchy pants to work from home will suit perfectly.
No one touches my stomach unless I want them to.
Remote birthing classes allow you to snicker as much as you’d like from the comfort of your couch.
Things I did not know and wish I had
The way they count how far along you are starts from the first day of your last period. That is not when you got pregnant, but is the easiest way to have a consistent range for all patients (who may or may not be tracking ovulation spikes).
It is normal to have spotting-level breakthrough bleeding at some point during your pregnancy. The books will tell you this. Your doctor will tell you this. I am telling you this now. It will not make a damn bit of difference, because the moment you see blood, you will panic and be certain you are having a miscarriage. No one will be able to convince you otherwise until you get checked out.
Your entire digestive system slows waaaay down to accommodate a pregnancy, and is part of the reason for nausea. I had heard that you will need to pee all the time, but hadn’t heard that you will almost entirely stop pooping. And then once a week, you will crap yourself inside out.
The placenta can grow wherever it wants, including smack-dab over your cervix. This offends me more than I can say. That’s where the baby needs to go out! (C-section is required in these cases)
A cesarean birth is a horizontal cut, like an envelope opening and then they squeeze the baby through it. I always pictured it vertical, like opening a book.
Acronyms are a minefield on pregnancy forums. For months, I read posts thinking “FTM” meant “female-to-male trans person” instead of “first-time mom.” Don’t be afraid to Google to keep your bearings, but also feel free to create your own—DH can be “Dear” or “Damn” Husband depending on context.
“Morning sickness” is a misnomer. It can happen all day. It can happen for your whole pregnancy, though most women see a gradual decrease after the first trimester. I’m mid-way through my third trimester, and still throwing up six times a day. If I had known that earlier, I would not have tried to “stick it out” for as long as I did: cooking meals from scratch, insisting that pre-packaged snacks were for wimps. If you are sick, get comfortable EARLY. You don’t get extra points or a better baby for staying miserable, so you might as well lean in to Couch and Cheese Central. If it clears up, great. If not, at least you’re not already tired from trying too hard.
Around 4% of babies are born on their due dates. Do not assume your third trimester will be the length you would like it to be. My doctor has proposed a 37 week induction (because of all the sickness and gestational diabetes). While that is technically full-term, that news was given to me in such a way that low-balled the panic of being A FULL MONTH EARLY. As in, LOSING A THIRD OF THE TRIMESTER.
The baby is lower than you may expect—actual location is generally half-way between navel and nethers. If you’re patting the top of a pregnant person’s stomach (with their permission), you are far away from where the kid is.
There is no good news during a pregnancy. The best you can hope for is continuing to meet the baseline. I am so much more understanding of gender reveal parties, because it is literally the only test result that you can have an opinion about. No ultrasound or blood test will come back with, “Congratulations, your child is gifted!” or “They’re going to be so good at tennis!” It is nine straight months of finding out you’re high risk or not for sickle-cell anemia or tuberculosis. I stopped writing them down after awhile because it felt like every one was, “Oh damn, I didn’t even know we were still concerned about that.”
“Round ligament pain” is the technical term for sharp, stabbing pain in your groin caused by all the ligaments in your hips and crotch helpfully loosening to allow for gestation and birth. This can start as early as 14 weeks, which one would think is way too fricking early for it, but nope. You’d be wrong. The general recommendation for this is to keep your knees together, to which I say, “That particular ship has left the harbor.”

Nevertheless, in contrast to in Japan or South Korea, Supercell and King did not rely on huge Tv and outdoor advertising campaigns to acquire users and climb up ranks. Recommendations
I will advise the management to leverage on the new window of opportunity provided by the CBN on their cashless policy which has been in existence since 2011 but later reinforce recently. They should launch their state of the art technology they possess to leverage on this new opportunity as move people will be captured who will be in need of their service as it is now costlier now to transact business with cash.
In another dimension, they should venture into  sponsoring of sporting activities as it commands  large number of followerships in terms of its acceptability among the youths. this will bring the popularity of their products right to the door steps of their potential customers who may not have been aware of their existence compared with their closest rival in their industry.
In the same vein, sponsorship of educational programmes such as quiz competition among the higher institution of learning to discover new talents who may decide to take a career part in both financial and tech industries later in life and also educate Nigerians populate on the need to be financially conscious, prudent in the management of their scarce resources and how to manage their investment optimally.
Conclusion
There is no gainsaying that Flutterwave together with their products has become a household name. It has been proven that with the right environment, Nigerian youths can deliver at anytime. It is hard to believe that a project which was conceived, nurtured and developed by a 26 years old man has achieved so much within a spate of 3 years of its establishment.
For Flutterwave, the future is bright as they continue to build on their core value of their policy of transparency, financial inclusion, seamless and cutting edge technology to dispense financial transactions all over the world. We will continue to lend out our support for the firm to achieve its mission as they take us to the next level where distance and time will not be a barrier to transact business globally.

     By    Patrick Martin
       29 June 2019
Four hours of nationally televised debates Wednesday and Thursday among 20 Democratic presidential candidates demonstrated the gigantic disconnect between the claims of this pro-war, pro-corporate party to be driven by concerns for the well-being of working people and the reality of poverty and oppression in America, for which the Democratic Party is no less responsible than the Republicans.
The stage-managed spectacle mounted by NBC marked the formal beginning of an electoral process dominated by big money and thoroughly manipulated by the corporate-controlled media.
The attempt to contain the growing left-wing opposition in the working class and channel it behind the second oldest capitalist party in the world necessarily assumed the form of lies and demagogy. For the most part, the vying politicians, all of them in the top 10 percent on the income ladder, made promises to provide healthcare, jobs, decent schools, tuition-free college and a clean environment for all, knowing full well they had no intention of carrying them out.
No one—neither the millionaire media talking heads asking the questions nor the candidates—dared to mention the fact that that Democratic Party has just voted to give Trump an additional $4.9 billion to round up, detain and torture hundreds of thousands of immigrants, including children, in the growing network of concentration camps being set up within the US. Facts, as they say, are stubborn things, and this one demonstrates the complicity of the Democratic Party in the fascistic policies of the Trump administration.
The second night of the debate featured the front-runners, former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. Biden has a long record of reactionary politics, including in the Obama administration. Sanders is continuing in this election his role in 2016 of channeling growing support for socialism into the framework of a right-wing party.
The fraud of a “progressive” Democratic Party and presidential candidate was summed up in the near-universal declaration of the media that Senator Kamala Harris had emerged as the clear winner, part of a coordinated effort to promote her candidacy. The African-American senator was lauded for attacking Biden for statements boasting of his ability in the past to collaborate with segregationist senators and his past opposition to busing for school integration.
It was Harris who adopted the most transparently bogus posture of left-radicalism in Thursday night’s debate, repeatedly declaring her agreement with Bernie Sanders and raising her hand, along with Sanders, to support the abolition of private health insurance in favor of a single-payer system. By Friday morning, however, she had reversed that stand, claiming she had “misheard” the question and declaring her support for the continuation of private insurance.
Harris climbed to the Senate by serving for years in the Bay Area of California as a law-and-order district attorney and state attorney general, defending police killers and bankers engaged in foreclosure fraud, including Trump’s current treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin. A member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, she has been among the most rabid of Democrats in attacking Trump as a stooge of Russian President Putin. In Thursday’s debate, her main foray into foreign policy was to denounce Trump for being soft on Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
She is being promoted most enthusiastically by those sections of the ruling class, whose views are promoted by the New York Times, who want the Democratic campaign to be dominated by racial and gender politics so as to mobilize the party’s wealthy upper-middle class base and divert and divide the mass working class anger over social inequality.
Many of the candidates fondly recalled the Obama administration. But those eight years saw the greatest transfer of wealth from working people to the super-rich in American history. The pace was set by the initial $700 billion bailout of Wall Street, which was expanded to uncounted trillions in the course of 2009, combined with the bailout of the auto companies at the expense of the autoworkers, who suffered massive cuts in benefits and a 50 percent cut in pay for new hires, rubber-stamped by the United Auto Workers.
The Obama administration also deported more immigrants than any other, a fact that was raised in a question to Vice President Biden, who confined himself to empty declarations of sympathy for the victims of Trump’s persecution, while denying any comparison between Trump and Obama.
Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado attacked Biden for claiming credit for a bipartisan budget deal in 2011 with Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell. Far from a genuine compromise, he said, the deal “was a complete victory for the Tea Party. It extended the Bush tax cuts permanently,” as well as putting in place major cuts in social spending which continue to this day. Bennet neglected to mention that he had voted for the deal himself when it passed the Senate by a huge majority.
It was remarkable, under conditions where President Trump himself declared that the United States was only 10 minutes away from launching a major assault on Iran earlier this month, that the 20 Democratic candidates spent almost no time discussing foreign policy.
In the course of four hours, there were only a few minutes devoted to the world outside the United States. The silence on the rest of the world cannot be dismissed as mere parochialism.
Many of the Democratic presidential candidates are deeply implicated in either the policy-making or combat operations of US imperialism. The 20 candidates include two who were deployed as military officers to Iraq and Afghanistan, Buttigieg and Tulsi Gabbard; Biden, vice president for eight years and the former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; and five senators who are members of high-profile national security committees: Harris and Bennet on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand on the Armed Services Committee, and Cory Booker on the Foreign Relations Committee.
If these ladies and gentlemen decide not to engage on foreign policy, the reason is clear: the Democrats know that the American people are adamantly opposed to new military interventions. They therefore seek to conceal the preparations of American imperialism for major wars, whether regional conflicts with Iran, North Korea or Venezuela, or conflicts with nuclear-armed global rivals like China and Russia.
In the handful of comments that were made on foreign policy, the Democratic candidates struck a belligerent note. On Wednesday, four of the ten candidates declared the main global threat to the United States to be China, while New York Mayor Bill de Blasio opted for Russia. Many candidates referred to the need to combat Russian interference in the US election—recycling the phony claims that Russian “meddling” helped Trump into the White House in 2016.
On the first night, Representative Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, asked to name the greatest global security threat, replied, “The greatest threat that we face is the fact we are at a greater risk of nuclear war today than ever before in history.” This remarkable declaration was passed over in silence by the moderators and the other candidates, and the subject was not raised on the second night at all, including by Bernie Sanders.

Home Sweet Home (Kacchako One-Shot)
AKA Oh look! It’s another Kacchako short!!
Rating: Teen (for cursing)
Word Count: 2,908
Other Notes: I stayed up last night writing this. I edited it a lot today so it should be better; in terms of flow and detail, I mean. Here, they are all in their late-20′s. You’ll get more backstory as you read along, but this was originally for KPW but I got busy so..... I don’t look at it as that anymore, but just a fic where I can write from Hot Head’s POV and have fun! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!! The story begins at the link below!
“Thank you so much, Ground Zero! I am so glad you agreed to let us interview you here!” The host continue giving his praises, expressing his happiness through wide gestures. Bakugo nods along, somewhat out of the one-sided conversation.
“Anything for a fan,” the Hero says after snapping back into the conversation a moment later. The host’s smile grows impossibly wider and Bakugo can think of a hundred things he could be doing right now rather than sitting in this freezing studio. Cleaning his apartment could be one; going over remodeling ideas for the agency or sitting through another board meeting. Hell, he’d rather peel paint than be here.
Of course, while all of those things could be something he could have left to do minutes ago, he promised a certain friend that he’d go through an interview. Every bit. From the make-up to the closing notes; even this. It’s annoying and grating his nerves--how far does this guy think he’ll get just by flattering Bakugo anyway?--but he isn’t going to back out. Besides, this guy is saying something at least remotely interesting.
“Are you traveling anywhere anytime soon?”
The Pro shrugs. “I don’t plan on it. But if I need to…”
The host jumps forward, earning a pair of narrowed eyes in his direction. “So you keep contact with Heroes from other countries?”
“Yeah.”
“What about Heroes who have moved--and or visited--another country. The same Heroes who are from Japan?”
What is he getting at? “Of course I do; and not only me. We try to keep good ties with Heroes everywhere. In the case that there is an emergency, say, in, France, and they have been severely attacked and they need backup. Then hey, some friends in Germany would go and assist.”
“What is considered an “emergency”?”
“Global panic, natural disasters, an organized rising of a villain or villains.”
Nodding, the host leans back. To the audience, he seems as if he’s thinking, and hard. To Bakugo, it’s all staged; and he can’t help but feel as if he is playing right along with it. “It’s coincidental you mention that, Ground Zero. Because I actually wanted to ask about the most difficult--most dangerous--organized villains in recent history: the League of Villains.
“Is that alright?”
At least he has the fucking decency to ask first, is the Pro’s first thought. His second is to shrug it off. That would be off-putting and crossing the line to his promise though. Which leaves him with two options: Either give his assent, or tell this guy--with as much professionalism and politeness he can muster--to go fuck himself. Neither are ideal, nor do they leave him with any wiggle room. Because if he says yes, those damn feelings will come back; the ones he has conquered and resolved, but still arise. If he says no, then he disappoints his friend and looks like a little bitch. So.
Bakugo straightens in his chair, uncomfortable leather sliding along his slick suit, only to slide back down. He levels his perfected, “you’re on fucking thin ice but you may speak” look at the man. In the steadiest tone he can manage, Bakugo says, “Go ahead.”
---
“You did amazing!!”
“Eat shit.”
Brushing off the good-intentioned compliment, Pro Hero, Ground Zero, tosses an empty water bottle into the nearby trashcan, making his way to the only person who has believed in him since he was a tiny little fuck up.
Izuku Midoriya--or Deku nowadays--beams his trademark smile, unfazed by the harmless remark. “Though I’m surprised you let him ask you about the League…” The shorter man trails off, eyebrows knitted together in thought. Bakugo remains silent. He isn’t all that surprised he talked about the single most traumatizing years of his life. It isn’t as if he hasn’t before.
As they walk down the hall, leaving the small apartment Bakugo has called home the past four years, he looks down at the green-haired Hero and can’t help but smirk. Izuku has stood by him through thick and thin--though more of the former than any. He couldn’t be happier to call this fucking dork his friend.
His sweating hand hits Izuku on the top of his head, roughly rubbing it. “Don’t worry. It’s just a bunch a questions.”
Izuku slaps Bakugo’s hand, moving away and scowling. “I can worry if I want.”
Crimson eyes roll. “Yeah, do whatever the fuck you want I guess.” Izuku crinkles his nose, but Bakugo ignores it. He stuffs his hands into his pant pockets, eyes looking around them.
It’s a habit he picked up at UA: Vigilance. Not knowing where you are or what’s around you, will fuck you up. You think you’re heading home and end up face-to-face with a pile of shit, barely alive ten minutes later. Being lost has never been something Bakugo liked, or liked admitting. It’s annoying, and a pain in the ass. That’s why his memory is so great; he had unconsciously trained himself to remember his location, how he got from Point A to Point B, vice versa, and everything along the way. Going from his agency to the nearest grocery store is only a fifteen minutes walk at worst and he could navigate himself there with his eyes closed.
The apartments and townhouses begin to grow farther apart as they walk down the street. Civilians come by, stopping the Pros as they pass. Bakugo rolls his eyes at Izuku’s own excitement, the work he put into getting to this point sos obviously paying off. It isn’t that Bakugo would ever admit, but seeing Izuku like this, happy smile stretching across his face as bright eyes widen at every “Deku!!! Please sign this!!” Even Bakugo has a wide arrange of adoring fans; not that it’s all surprising.
When the crowd thins, Bakugo notices they have ended up close to one of the train stations. He looks around them, catching sight of the time on one of the clocks. “Where the hell are we going, Deku?” he asks after the last fan leaves.
Izuku perks up at the question, dropping his hand from waving. He nods to the train station, beginning to walk ahead. “Don’t you remember?” he calls by the time Bakugo catches up to him, huffing in fake annoyance. “We’re going to see Uraraka!”
He stumbles. Bakugo fucking stumbles.
It takes him more than a couple seconds to find his voice. When he does, he isn’t proud of his high-pitched, cracking tone either. “She’s back?”
Izuku nods, either deciding it’s wise not to comment on the two-in-a-row blunders made by Bakugo, or not caring. “Not yet; but soon! A few and the other Heroes and I wanted to prepare a welcome home party for Uraraka before she actually gets back.”
Bakugo’s first thought is to wonder why in the fucking hell this dumbass has Ochako’s keys in the first place. Until he remembers that he isn’t the only who has access to her house.
“What the fuck for?”
“She’s coming back home. It’s been two years, Katsuki... Aren’t you excited?”  Not that he needed to be reminded, but fuck you too Izuku.
Of course he knows how long Uravity has been overseas. Training to become a better Hero in other countries; learning their styles and systems to bring back and improve Japan or some shit. It came as no surprise, but Bakugo has to close his eyes over the crashing wave of pain that accompanies the numbers. Twenty-five months. Twenty-five-fucking months.
“Thanks for the reminder, jackass,” Bakugo mumbles. Balling his hands into slick fists, the Pro stuffs them back into his pockets. He kicks at the ground once before stalking ahead. He doesn’t exactly know where Izuku is going, but sticks to the idea that he want to take the train to her house and heads that way. I can’t believe it.
“I’m so--I didn’t mean to upset you, Katsuki,” Izuku says after running to catch up to the other’s fast strides ahead.
“Sounds like an apology,” as tedious as it is. Bakugo has always hated constant apologies. No matter what for. People should only apologize when it matters. Upsetting him doesn’t; it happens. No one can apologize for the number of times Bakugo has been upset or an asshole; and Izuku has tried. “You’re right though,” he grumbles after more than a couple thoughtful moments. It’s painful. Hurts like unlike anything; and he has been throws into a building by a mammoth of a villain before. He’s done his best to forget, to distract, and to push aside the ache that comes with missing her. He’s done it. At least he thought so.
Izuku gives the other a mildly shocked look. “I am?”
Slowing to a stop, Bakugo gives his infamous sharp grin. It wobbles at first, and he panics that maybe it won’t hold. It does. This is familiar at least, pretending to be one thing while all he wants to do is cry alone in his bed. When he finally has Izuku waiting long enough, Bakugo declares with a surprisingly strong voice, “Uraraka’s home.”
---
Urakara is late.
“What the fuck.”
To a majority’s surprise, Bakugo leaves his supposed hiding place. He makes his way to Izuku, Half-and-Half, Earphone Jack, and Pikachu around him by the stove in the kitchen. “What’s going on, Deku?” he all but demands in his barely-shouting voice.
Earphone Jack roles her eyes as Izuku begins to scroll at something on his phone a bit more frantically. “Calm down, Bakugo,” she says in an overly exaggerated tone.
“Yeah man. Are you--I get it.” Pikachu moves a couple inches backwards after being tossed a famous glare. True enough, it has lost some of it luster since his middle school days, but it has gotten easier for his former classmates to tell when Bakugo is not in the mood to be played with. This is one of those times.
Swinging crimson orbs to the left and locking on to his next victim, Bakugo grounds out the same sentence from a moment ago. This time, Izuku passes his phone to Bakugo. “She’s stuck at the airport, Katsuki. I don’t--”
“Are you going to get her?” Bakugo asks, still looking down at the most recent exchange between the two friends. Seems like traffic is backed up again; guess I’ll be here a while:p
For a moment, no one says anything. The other Heroes have gone silent, and when Bakuo looks up, he finds no change in his thought that Izuku is still an airhead. “Since you aren’t, I’ll go.” He pivots on one foot, reaching across one of the chairs for his jacket. Izuku calls out to him, but Bakugo responds in only lifting his hand to flip him off. He stomps across the wooden floors, staring only at the door. The few other Heroes scattered across the living room avert their eyes as he passes them, but he could care less. “Damn extras.”
Once the door is closed behind him, Bakugo realizes that he left his phone in there. “I’m not going back,” he mumble as he jogs down the porch steps, and then to his car. He stops in front of it, keys dangling from one finger. The black thing needs a wash. The  few wrappers and papers left behind need to be cleaned out as well.
A passing car’s honk disturbs him from his thoughts. He scowls. Of all the times to worry about cleaning, it’s now. It’s something that strikes a nerve; and a big one. He should be on his way to When pick up Ochako. Ochako.
Exhaling what he can, Bakugo swings open his car door. He slams it shut behind himself, a bit too hard. This is ridiculous. It’s been two years since he last saw her and here he is acting like his teenage self. At least I’m not as shitty as I was back then, he thinks darkly, pulling out of the driveway.
Making his way through the city to the airport, he makes a plan for himself. It doesn’t feel like much, but by the end, he feels...better, but only marginally. The expressway is crowded and the airport is painstakingly more so. By the time he actually gets to the gate Ochako said she would be waiting at--per her text to Izuku--two hours have passed. He feels nerves begin to intensify, gnawing at his stomach. The familiar chemical smell that has become apart of himself intensifies. He tries--stupidly--to wipe his hands on the small towelette in his car. He leaves his car, unbelievably nervous.
The crowd is awful. There is a mass of many brown-haired people, and being as short as she is doesn’t help out all that much. So much so that doesn’t see her at first. He wonders around, standing on the tips of his toes, moving people aside, just to try and get a break through the masses. After a while of passing through people and being stopped, Bakugo comes close to one of the airport shops, and spots a small crowd by the window.
He narrows his eyes, recognizing a familiar uniform. “It’s so amazing to actually meet you!” he hears as he approaches the crowd. A quick scan at the people in the back and he knows they’re fans. Now how many Heroes are scheduled to leave the airport today?
He nears the end, catching the quick reply. “Aww!! Thank you so much!” Bingo.
Bakugo rounds the side of the crowd, pushing newcomers out of his way. He actually feels his heart skip a beat after hearing her soft responses, shy laughs.  Along the way, he manages to catch sight of short brown hair; a dimple; the corner of a smile. It’s like falling in love with her all over again.
The window ends up blocking her in. He notices this as he comes to the side, the small opening just ahead of him. But he also sees why she also chose it. The chair to her right block fans from getting as close as the left side, especially when no one notices the opening behind the plastic chairs when someone they admires is standing in a crowded airport.
He moves closer to the opening. Unlike when he was walking around the crowd, people have begun to notice him. He flashes a quick grin, feeling almost giddy at just how close he’s coming to finally seeing all of her.
She’s finishing talking to a fan, her back turned to him as he calls out to her over the crowd. “Oi! That you, round face?”
The moment recognition registers on her face, Bakugo feels happiness swell in his chest. It took her a couple seconds to spot him, and then she runs to him--something he didn’t expect her to do. If he’s being honest, the first time he sees her in two years, he expected for her to--as crazy as it kind of seems--to hit him for being stupid. For not talking to her, almost avoiding her entirely. Even thousands of miles away.
“Katsuki!” she exclaims as she throws bare arms around his neck. He doesn’t stumble, taking her lift-off and spinning her around. “You’re here!” she whispers.
He chuckles, suddenly choked up. “Why wouldn’t I?” is what he almost asks. He stumbles over the words on his tongue. So instead of being able to say anything at all, Bakugo sets Ochako down, but not yet pulling back from her; just as she continues holding onto him. Looking down at her, he can hardly put it into words; just that it’s making him want to kiss her right now, this warm feeling in his chest.
Brown eyes lift to search his own. From his eyes to his chin, to his hair and ears. He holds his breath as her eyes flicker over his face, searching for something he can’t figure out. He’s as much entranced by her appearance as she is by his. The woman hasn’t aged a day. Her usually short hair seems only a little longer, eyes as deep and beautiful as ever.
He hasn’t talked to her in seven months. He hasn’t seen her in two years. There is a crowd, a packed airport. He is tired and pissed he had to waste two hours in traffic, and search around the building for this woman for nearly an hour. The party is making his eye twitch whenever he thinks about, but all their friends are there. They are the reason he’s here, but he can’t stay angry. Just thinking about going home with her, talking to her--it all makes him want to sweep her up again and take her out of here. He wants to give this woman the world. He’ll suffer a hundred more crappy parties just for her.
There are a so many other things he could be doing the longer he stares down at her; things that he should be doing. Yet he can’t think of a single one as he leans down. He watches her head tip back ever-so-slightly, eyes closed as she leans into him. Seconds later, he’s capturing pink lips in his own.
This is what I missed. He breaks the connection some time later, breathless and face red. The crowd around them--how did he forget?--make assorted noises, but he ignores them. “I missed you,” he whispered hoarsely. Ochako just smiles, an awestruck expression on her face. I feel just right in these arms.

The Global Race for Online Learning
Today online education has established itself as a global phenomenon. The World Wide Web, which affords so many educational applications friendly to users, and has lived up to its name by reaching nearly every single country through the internet infrastructure. Nowadays, intranets and other systems of digital devices such as media for formal education and informal learning. Online learning serves only one objective, and that is, all the
learners at least have the option of studying and communicating with the other world through the global internet.
Global online education represents a technical revolution in access to valuable information for people in developing countries with a paradigm shift from education to perpetuate elite classes of hereditary privilege--in all countries--to UNESCO’s motto of “education for all”--through the internet. Globalization here described a positive diffusion of educational opportunities beyond Western or wealthy countries, so the geographical coverage focuses mostly on remaining regions. But if we go behind the scenes, we see endless efforts and sacrifices of Westerners who collaborated internationally to create a level playing field.
School Management System
Further when we proceed, “Global” also represents global issues, which are raised by the advent of online education. Today, the massive growth of specialized knowledge and paradigm shifts in education has made the need for lifelong education mandatory. As per the current scenario, every educational institute is replicating the classroom with online learning and eager to take advantage of new media. In today’s fast-paced world, educators want new ways to communicate, implementation of new educational techniques, a completely renewed professional development for educators in virtually all fields. Hence, educators are also utilizing the internet for professional networking regionally and globally to learn from one another about the new media and their applications in education. Although until last year, the pendulum of opinion about e-learning may be swinging through pros and cons in economically fortunate countries today, there are not any disadvantages of online learning. According to The Print, almost 320 million students were impacted due to this pandemic in India alone. Further, as the cases of the coronavirus are increasing rapidly, the risk of opening schools again is getting higher and higher daily. Thus, online learning is the only source of education today, and hence it gave birth to furthermore technologies, such as online learning management systems. These systems are providing a stable platform where a teacher can easily interact with his/her students, and students can respond accordingly.
Further, the government has made it compulsory to complete a few specific online programs to achieve a specific degree. This step was considered as one of the major steps taken by the government to show that online learning should be accepted by every student. Moreover, many universities from all over the country are applying this philosophy to provide better skills to their students.
Mentioning a few online learning courses during the interview shows that you are not just only a well-organized person but you are also a motivated potential worker. Thus, online learning can be termed as the future of education, and all of us should accept it as a new opportunity to reform our education system.
Many companies all around the world are coming up with various types of technologies that can revolutionize the education industry. Out of these, Adaptive learning will prove to be the most effective when it comes to making the student understand and learn. With great potential, students can outperform themselves using adaptive learning in an online Learning Management System. The possibilities can be endless as the main objective of these companies is to bring out the individuality of every student. This will prove to be very helpful when it comes to understanding the unique needs of every student because it tracks all the inputs from the student and provides them with feedback accordingly.
The companies who can create the best possible machine learning algorithms for students and come up with the best online Learning Management System will surely win the race of online learning.

MIYEN Matthew (@Miyen_mimdit) - Personally in the Horn I SUPPORT H.E Dr.
@WilliamsRuto, the Chief Hustler, for PRESIDENT in #Kenya come 2022, August. His political ideology and strategy on the BOTTOM–UP ECONOMIC MODEL are APPEALING to me as a regional Youth. IMPROVE 100% individual n House building hold Money bag-sufficiency.
For those who hold STRONG divergent opinions about Ruto and the Bottom–Up Model, we accommodate your views. We are simply fighting an ELITE SYNDROME that for one to be anything he/she must have had a KNOWN father, or political party or a social status. That mindset is SLAVERY.
William Ruto: The Bottom-Up Economic Model that we are advocating is premised on a candid and genuine conversation that puts women and young people at the centre of our country’s economy. The two groups have remained marginalised despite their huge potential in the transformation of Kenya. The low-interest rate regime that the Bottom-Up Economic Model propagates presents a new investment environment that delivers SMEs and entrepreneurs from the bondage of shylocks, helping them access affordable loans to fulfill their start-up, cash flow and investment needs.
We aim to reemodel our economy to give priority to small and medium-sized enterprises will facilitate growth at the grassroots where majority of Kenyans are struggling to get financing to expand their businesses.
On South Sudanese Update
Miyen - Most foreign states' interests center around CONTROL of oil investments oppts &the use of South Sudan to buffer the spread of Islamic fundamentalism. The US intends to use SSD to check the spread of Islamic fundms in the Upper Nile Valley+counter Chinese interests in the country.
Dear; Your Lordship the Mayor, Juba City Council,
There are NO LAWS within the legal jurisprudence of your office and that of State Government to fine SMEs, Mama Mbogas, Hawkers,& vendors for not op(ening)erating their bizs. Its ILLEGAL n IMPUNITY of the highest degree.
The #SouthSudan National Revenue Authority (NRA) should robustly encourage REGISTRATION of SMEs, Boda Boda guys, Small Scale Processing and Manufacturing company (s) both FOREIGN n local so as to tap into the GROWING TAX POOL that requires harnessing. Paying taxes is PATRIOTISM.
Decades and decades of South Sudanese whoring their time away in East Africa have produced citizens who think they know the East Africa region more than the Rutos and Musyokas of Kenya. Here is a young man who is talking South Sudanese politics, while at the same time spewing some truth who Kenyans should choose come August 2022. The time is ripe for the East African Federation to be realized already. Will Salva Kiir Mayardit become the next president of EAF, and followed by Ruto?
Below is an article from Harvard Business Review's August 2003 issue by Gardiner Morse on Bottom Up Economics; Bangladesh is way ahead on how best to empower vulnerable communities with microcredit loans.
Africa Update
H i s t o r y V i l l e (@HistoryVille) -
With a population of 793 million people, the United Nations has predicted that by 2100, Nigeria would be the third most populated country in the world, just behind China (1,020,665,216) and India (1,516,597,380).
Below are designs of Cape Coast International Airport by Kofi Anto, a final year Central University architecture student - Akorfa Ama Akoto.
Bottom-Up Economics
By Gardiner Morse
From the August 2003 Issue
Iqbal Quadir is best known as the founder of GrameenPhone, now Bangladesh’s largest phone company in terms of subscribers. During the 1990s, Quadir stitched together a global consortium that launched GrameenPhone in 1997 to provide mobile phone services throughout Bangladesh. His innovative scheme has allowed local entrepreneurs—mostly women—to buy cellular handsets with loans from microcredit pioneer Grameen Bank and then rent the phones, with airtime, to neighbors. Today, GrameenPhone has nearly 1 million direct subscribers, in addition to the 30,000 entrepreneurs whose handsets provide phone access to 50 million people. Quadir is now a lecturer in public policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In an interview and follow-up e-mails with HBR’s Gardiner Morse, Quadir argued that investing in local entrepreneurs, rather than funneling aid to their governments, may be the best hope for the world’s developing economies.
If GrameenPhone is so successful, why hasn’t it been widely replicated?
Good ideas aren’t replicated instantly; GrameenPhone took nearly five years to go from concept to launch. In most developing countries, it takes months to incorporate a new company and years to get a cellular license, not to mention the difficulties in assembling management and attracting capital. And in many countries, government bureaucracies resist entrepreneurial activities that may redistribute power. Vested interests protect private and public monopolies and quasi monopolies. There are systemic obstacles and huge barriers to entry.
Remember, also, that companies are not replicated outright anywhere. Specific features are. The question isn’t, Why hasn’t GrameenPhone been duplicated? It’s, Are there features of the GrameenPhone model that can be replicated in other environments? Its most important feature isn’t the phone system itself but the microloans that mobilize an army of individual entrepreneurs to profitably meet an unsatisfied need.
How else could the GrameenPhone model be applied?
Here’s one example. I’ve been talking with Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway scooter, about a new way to bring electricity to villages in developing countries. Dean is reengineering the Stirling engine, originally developed 200 years ago, to generate about one kilowatt of electricity, enough to light 60 small households. Now, instead of, say, Westinghouse building a single 200-megawatt power plant in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, imagine 200,000 microentrepreneurs, each purchasing a Stirling engine and selling one kilowatt in their respective communities in rural Uganda.
Explain the benefit.
Both approaches involve selling equipment from America for electricity in Uganda. But only the second empowers entrepreneurs from below, dispersing economic influence. Historically, such technological empowerment promoted the economic and political climate that gave rise to today’s developed economies. Water mills, eyeglasses, clocks, and other productivity-enhancing tools put power in the hands of entrepreneurs and merchants in medieval Europe, creating a countervailing economic force against coercive authorities. In response to entrepreneurs’ demands and growing economic clout, authorities made compromises, giving rise to important reforms such as property rights, enforcement of contracts, separation of the judiciary from the executive, and other checks and balances, creating the fertile ground for capitalism and democracy to take root. Similar economic and political changes need to take root in poor countries.
But isn’t lack of capital the real barrier to economic growth in developing countries?
The real problem is where the capital goes. Capital given to entrepreneurs creates jobs, economic growth, and, ultimately, improved governance. Capital given to predatory government bureaucracies only reinforces centralized authority and strengthens vested interests.
Foreign aid to governments in developing countries is based on conventional “wishdom”—it is more of a wish than a fact that poor countries consistently benefit from capital from rich countries. This aid is “wished” by rich countries to achieve geopolitical ends, to support the sale of their equipment and consulting services, and to alleviate poverty. The problem is, meeting the first two wishes by aiding governments can jeopardize the third. Supporting small entrepreneurs, however, promotes democracy and eventually helps satisfy all three wishes.
How should companies engage developing countries?
By promoting trade. Trade creates and sustains entrepreneurs who will pressure their governments to adopt pro-business policies. It creates jobs, drives innovation, and gives the people a political voice.
Consider the difference between giving $500 million in aid to the government of Kenya versus buying apparel from Kenya that allows 500 different entrepreneurs to make profits of $1 million each. While building identical foreign-exchange reserves, the latter creates many more jobs, produces bigger economic ripple effects, aligns the government’s interests with the country’s prosperity through taxation, and disperses power to a large number of businesses—all of which promotes democracy and growth.
Corporations can engage the citizens of poor countries in commerce. First, don’t just sell: Open factories in poor countries and create jobs. Develop and sell technologies that enable citizens to produce more; sell productivity tools, like cell phones and power generators, not soft drinks and cigarettes. Second, partner with small entrepreneurs, which is increasingly possible because they’re becoming connected through information technologies. Third, procure. Data processing and call centers can be moved to poor countries. Supplies and furniture can be bought there. Why couldn’t large corporations buy office furniture made in Africa? Why does office furniture need to be so uniform and boring in America?
What’s in it for companies? Isn’t their business ultimately about making profits?
All of these are profitable moves. Cost reduction and market expansion are always profitable. Locating production facilities in poor countries, partnering with local entrepreneurs, and procuring goods and services there reduce costs. Because buying from poor countries expands their purchasing capacity, rich countries’ corporations, in their own interests, should urge their governments to lift barriers for importing from poor countries. All these actions will expand markets. Focusing solely on selling to developing countries is self-defeating. Unless productivity and purchasing power in developing countries are raised, companies in rich countries cannot boost their sales or profits there.
Businesses cannot ignore the broader contexts. Profits should be seen as a means, not an end. I put together GrameenPhone with that in mind.
If capitalism is based on profit maximization, why shouldn’t profits be an end?
I don’t see capitalism in that limited way. GrameenPhone’s 2002 profits of $44 million allowed the company to expand its services. Profits attract investors and allow old investors to exit. So profits remain the means for assembling the project, expanding the services, and rewarding investors. Adam Smith and his followers argued that under certain conditions profit maximization automatically leads to the common social good. That is, profit maximization can be a means.
Even if profits are a means to build things, corporate managers are forced to see them as an end.
That’s because they are focused on the short term. Increasingly, they will come to see profits as a means. Remember, companies face an evolving set of standards that affects their conduct. How those standards change depends on the knowledge and organizational ability of citizens. For instance, after citizens groups—acting directly or through their governments—demanded higher environmental standards, companies could no longer ignore damage they may have been causing to the environment. Similarly, citizens groups are emerging with the help of new technologies, locally and globally, to demand better labor standards and more socially responsible behavior from companies. These types of demands on companies are bound to rise, requiring them to be more mindful of social needs and less focused on the single-minded pursuit of profits.
Companies will find, I think, that they generate more income when they proactively meet social needs than when they struggle to maximize profits each time they are forced to adapt to new, more exacting social and environmental standards. When they take action to address social needs, they are making profits a means to an end: the common social good.
