The well-known phrase “only God can judge me” is something from the late singer Tupac Shakur, not Scripture. Although we are indeed commanded to judge other people (Ezekiel 3:18-21; Matthew 7:1-6; Matthew 13-20; 1 Corinthians 5:11; 1 Corinthians 5:12; 1 Corinthians 15:33, etc.), none of this judgment will come close to what someone will experience when they are judged by God. We can only judge one’s visible fruit, but what if they live a secret life of sin we know nothing about? God will judge your thoughts (Ecclesiastes 12:14), all your secrets laid bare before Him (Romans 2:16), all you’ve said (Matthew 12:36-37), and all your deeds will be known (Romans 2:6). Unlike being judged by human beings, you will not mock God (Galatians 6:7). Unless you repent and believe unto salvation (2 Corinthians 7:10), you will be found guilty of your sins. However, God offers us a way out of the condemnation against us. We have had “the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us... nailed it to the cross” (Colossians 2:14). Those who have been crucified with Christ will no longer live for themselves but they’ll now live for Christ (Galatians 2:20) and will no longer be slaves to sin (Romans 6:6). God either sees all your “good deeds,” which are filthy (Isaiah 64:6), or God will see the righteousness of His Son imputed to you (1Corinthians 1:30). As George Whitefield said, “Christ's righteousness delivers believers from the guilt of [sin]: Christ is their Savior, and is become a propitiation for their sins... By having Christ's righteousness imputed to them, they are dead to the law, as a covenant of works; Christ has fulfilled it for them, and in their stead.” God will judge you. The question is: will He see your righteousness or the righteousness of Christ imputed to you?

People want to recommend themselves to God by their sincerity; they think, 'If we do all we can, if we are but sincere, Jesus Christ will have mercy on us.' But pray what is there in our sincerity to recommend us to God? ... therefore, if you depend on your sincerity for your salvation, your sincerity will damn you.

If you are rich, think not yourselves too high to stoop to Jesus; for he is the King of kings; and you never will be truly rich until you are made rich in Jesus.
