wy’all ready for my awkward ship commentary

1. jane bennet / andrei bolkonsky - i mean…….that seems like it could? work? which is funny considering andrei is supposed to be the “mr. darcy of russian literature.” anyway, i think they have interesting similarities and differences? clearly, y o u ‘ r e the resident andrei expert, but i defs think both of them have that quality of shouldering the world on their own? like they’re....more self-critical?? and also i definitely think the most interesting contrast is his kind of depressive cynicism vs her almost blind optimism? i’d be curious about what his reaction to her view of the world would be? also there’s the added layer of like.....the fact that andrei was so t i r e d of everything in society bc it is so....insincere to him? but here jane is, unbelievably the definition of a Good Girl to the eyes of the world, but she’s blindingly genuine about all of it. so i think there’s Conflict to be had there.

2. meg giry / ophelia - I can see it! It would probably not even be super hard to work in to hamlet canon? meg could be a lady’s maid or something, just a more peasant-y girl who loves to dance, and she just....basically tells ophelia “screw hamlet, let’s run away together.” I think meg is the right amount of spontaneity and kookiness and genuine heart??? and ophelia...i mean is very honor bound, so idk, maybe this wouldn’t End Well, but it’d sTART WELL SO YOU KNOW WHAT. anyway, meg giry is here to steal your gf so you better watch out, hamlet. 

3. athos / fitzwilliam darcy - a little ironic considering they were each, at one production, played by matthew mcfayden. ok all jokes aside about being twinners, in all honesty they probably wouldn’t do too well together? both of them are taciturn enough that put in a room together they probably straight up won’t talk to each other?

4. natasha rostova / christine daae - oooooh! i think they’d definitely get along very well? natasha is like…..very shook by The Opera in general. Like she’s very fascinated by the way everything works and how beautiful everyone is (read: “Sonya, the leading lady is s o pretty”) and their characters are and she’d probably find christine after and they’d probably hit it off? like natasha has that slightly childlike quality, as does christine, and she’d probably stick really close to christine and beg her for all the stories that old Papa Daae used to tell and all the things that happen at the opera and just make herself a general nuisance because she just full heart eyes at christine.

5. dmitry sudayev / lise bolkonskaya - this is……probably the pairing that nobody ever thought of? i personally don’t know what to think of it because……..wut? i mean i think even thinking about their possible relationship i’d cast it in a more platonic light? like dima would be the awkward lil brother who wants to help to lise’s “i’m The Mom Friend of the Century and you have a sMUDGE ON YOUR NOSE.”
