made a sacrilegious tntduo au where wil is a mix of lucifer n adam and q is just. lilith
oops? 👉👈
summary of the au under the cut
[let me just say i had to do it to em I HAD to. cwilbur is so lucifer coded and cq is ALSO lucifer coded, but he's ALSO LILITH CODED]
[lucifer being god's most beautiful angel and leading the war against heaven and his fall parallel to l'manberg and pogtopia. lilith's fleeing from the garden of eden and adam parallel to cq making a coalition with schlatt instead of Wilbur in the elections. their sin of pride being the death of them and the themes of the deadly sin of lust shaming the sexuality of lilith and q. sorry.]
BUT THE SUMMARY OF THE AU is that tntduo is kind of adam and lilith. instead of humans, they're an instance of angels (holy creations built to serve god) that were sent to live in a newly built earth instead of heaven beside god. let's call them avians. theyre meant to found a paradise, and cwilbur (adam) is made in god's image (crowgod man maybe) and therefore the most beautiful creation, given most of the pressure n development of pride to create paradise. quackity doesn't like how he's treated when wilbur is blinded by his pride and insecurity, so he runs off one day.
when angels (probably ctechno) are sent after him and tell him he must come back or he'll be banished from paradise, he realizes he doesn't truly have freedom or respect in all of this. he refuses, and is demonized for denying the higher plan. wilbur is distraught, and sooner rather than later a new avian is introduced, clearly to replace his ex companion
(it's sally she has blue heron wings and she's eve and she follows a similar path to q seeking higher knowledge and progress n evolution and wilbur does move on n love her and love their son fundy but he also understands where q and sally were coming from with their disobedience towards higher authorities and he had sally's back but he understands now that he wants to change paradise n he wants to change heaven)
I'm still figuring out their demonized designs for the au as well as what happens next, but lilith was the first to enter hell. then lucifer and his army followed. there's a lot of confusion as to who is satan, ruler of hell. supposedly it would be the creator of hell, but who created it first? lucifer or lilith? i want this angsty yip yap of them being the "monsters" of this world, the root of all evil, symbolized by their shameful pride and lust(in addiction and casino self indulgences). at the end of their story they find each other again. aight ty for coming to my tedtalk 😊

You know what I've been brought on board the forty year old wilbur train. He'd still end up forty by the end of it anyways his relationship with his dad was still weird when he was in his twenties and it makes Fundy's whole thing less of a headache. In my au Fundy was not raised in L'Manberg though because if that place existed for more than a few months it begins to hurt my head
LOVE FOURTY YEAR OLD WILBUR IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO GROW IT IS NEVER EVER TOO LATE TO TAKE THE NEXT STEPS FORWARD!!!!!
Also about the lmanberg thing. Yeah… I personally think fundy was raised in the area that *would* become l’manberg. (Though he was born in the real life UK) Sally and Wil were basically crazy teens living out in a van in the woods and neither of them had any interest in staking a claim on the land. But then years after she was dead and a bunch of other friends were living in the area Wilbur like wanted to title it at least…. Unfortunately he’s a very dramatic dickhead and kinda fucked himself over with it lol.
What’s the situation like in your headcanons?

Villain Pool AU
guess what! I'm still on my shit and I was thinking about the different groups in the Dream SMP. The Syndicate particularly. The big 4 would be Phil, Technoblade, Niki, and Ranboo. That's them.
They're our beloved mobsters and with that thought I circled back to the MANY supervillain au's where the Syndicate is made up of basically all of SBI, Beeduo, Jack is there with Niki, and then our lovely Las Nevadas bois Q and Slime. I have yet to see Foolish there but he's an honorable mention
ANYWAY
The Dream Team and their various comrades are commonly seen as "heroes" so-
This got me thinking. The real Syndicate, the og 4 mentioned above is a mafia group. They're mean and exclusively do things themselves. They have money, they have power, but it's all their own and no one has dared take it from them. Except for our lovely rival mafia that was founded out of spite by the Syndicate's head honchos oldest son who basically stole his youngest son to keep him from being influenced.
L'manberg. Aka The Revolutionists. They specialize in causing havoc without hardly lifting a finger or revealing who the hell they really are. They're great at expressing their intentions without being seen. Some call them cowards, and those people are quickly snuffed out.
Now, who is L'manberg you might ask.
Well obviously Wilbur is the eldest son I mentioned and he took Tommy when he was young to get away from Phil's violent business before Tommy got drug into it as a child as Wilbur did. Wilbur tries to convince Technoblade to join them but his brother craves violence and is forever loyal to their fierce father.
In a habit of taking in those who he wishes to keep out of Phil's violent path, Wilbur finds Fundy and takes him in as well. Then along comes Eret, and eventually Tubbo. Others come and "help" L'manberg but they never get close enough to find out who exactly is a participant in the Revolutionists.
There are a few that get in but go through a process to leave as long as they promise to help when called for, and L'manberg will extend their protection to them as well.
These people are few and far between, most of them never being heard from again. But one man...one man causes issues for both the Syndicate and L'manberg.
Quackity Nevadas forms a vigilante group called the Butcher Army where both people from L'manberg and the Syndicate join in. This causes issues and under an alliases of Orpheus and Theseus, Wilbur and Tommy meet with Phil and Techno (who is the Army's target) to get their men back. Of course, everyone from L'manberg is require to keep their identities secret under any and all circumstances. Fundy, Eret, and Tubbo are not real names. They're covers. Even Wilbur doesn't know their real names and they don't know his. They call him Mr. President, and Tommy is Vice.
In the Butcher Army they keep their identities secret as well, Quackity being one of the only ones who flaunts his. In L'manberg he was known as Q which was short for his new allias Quackity but people don't know this and assume that Quackity's parents were just odd since it was weird for a villain to go by two names without one of them being their real one.
With time, Techno dismantles the hunting party for his head without much trouble and both Fundy and Tubbo return to L'manberg with a thourough scolding from their President. Fundy is particularly affected by this because at this point he has considered Wilbur a kind of father figure, or at least a big brother.
(Side note: Everyone in L'manberg doesn't know Wilbur and Tommy are actually brothers. Phil and Technoblade don't know Wilbur and Tommy are Orpheus and Theseus.)
I've gotten a little off track here and forgot to explain in depth how the Syndicate/L'manberg meeting went.
No one has met President and Vice. No one's seen their faces, no one even knows if they exist really besides the ones in L'manberg and even then the both of them stay behind screens during meetings. Wilbur has made sure of that because he knows that if Phil wants to, he can find out who is running the show with the smallest bit of information. Fundy is the closest one to Wilbur and all he knows is that he's tall and has brown hair.
This leads to Phil (who is known on the street as Zephyrus) and Technoblade (The Blood God) not having a clue that their forgotten family is right in front of them. (who they think either left the city or were killed in one of the many villain hero fights (Wilbur totally didn't plant evidence of their bodies to get Phil off their tracks when they first left or anything))
Wilbur knows, Tommy doesn't because he was too young and Wilbur never exactly told him who Zephyrus and The Blood God really were. Anyway here's the little scene I cooked up from the POV of Wilbur:
"I was told we were meeting with the heads of L'manberg. Not some two bit lieutenants." The Blood God snarled. Technoblade. Wilbur itched to punch him, it was always like that when they met. Only one of them knowing everything.
"Who are you calling two bit Tusks?" Tommy spat and Wilbur held back his little brother from lunging forward. Tommy's temper was vital and it made Wilbur smile underneath the carefully crafted mask. The voice modulator distorted Tommy's voice to a much lower pitch which didn't fit his height, but then again Tubbo sounded like a fucking smoker of 30 years some days with hardly even a surgical mask on.
"Easy Theseus." Wilbur warned.
"Get your dog under control." Technoblade demanded and that hurt. That made Wilbur's blood burn in confliction. If only he knew it all.
"Zephyrus if you would refrain your comrade from insulting mine that would be appreciated. This is business, not pleasure." Wilbur said cooly. His voice sounded so smooth, no cracking from dusty rooms and cheap cologne. Ivory keys in a symphony.
"Blood." Zephyrus obliged. Phil, oh Phil made Wilbur angry. All he saw in the glimpses of his face behind the veil was the violence of his own childhood. Phil wasn't abusive, he was rough when he needed to be and overall it was fairly normal. But his expectations...they crushed Wilbur even now. Good thing he thought he was dead.
"Blood God is right, we were told we were meeting with President and Vice of L'manberg. Not their subordinates. We don't even know who you are." Phil was careful in his tone. Cold and daring for aggression.
"We're who they send to do their business. I'm Orpheus and this is Theseus." Wilbur kept a steady hand on Tommy's shoulder. The tight leather gloves over his hands flexed as Tommy tensed to move. Impatient as always.
"Cowards." Technoblade scoffed and Wilbur snapped his head to the one he used to call his brother. If there was one thing he couldn't stand to be called, it was coward. Bastard, fucker, idiot, two bit trash. A burning ship drowning everyone around him. Call him anything but coward. He was just trying to protect those he loved.
"Say that again." Wilbur said low and the voice modulator almost didn't pick up his voice correctly and there was a fault. A glitch and the illusion of Orpheus' voice was ruined.
"You use voice modulators?" Zephyrus inquired and Wilbur cleared his throat. Tommy was practically begging to jump at Technoblade, but Wilbur knew he'd be skewered before he even moved an inch.
"Our identities are sacred if you couldn't tell." Wilbur lifted his chin to reveal just how high his turtleneck went and a dark beanie fully covered his hair. The mask he wore took up his entire face and another mask under it covered his lower jaw and anything on the side that might show. Tommy had his hoodie and similar ski mask material covering his features. The hood over his hair was secured to the mask, so any possibility of it coming off was unlikely.
"Right." Zephyrus examined them and Wilbur could feel those bright blue eyes running alone every crack and crevice of his body to try and find something to use. A description of his hands, a fault in his stance or posture. A habit. Anything.
"Orpheus and Theseus. Mythological heroes. Interesting choice." Phil noticed and Wilbur's blood ran cold.
"Don't analyze, don't analyze, don't analyze." He begged in his head and tore the conversation away from the topic.
"Orpheus wasn't a hero, and Theseus killed his father technically. I wouldn't call them heroes." Wilbur hissed and he saw Phil's eyes blink knowingly. There was his information. All he needed. Wilbur knew his greek fairytales. In a city full of crime, those who were educated enough to even think of those stories were few. Let alone be well versed in them enough to know the technicalities of them all.
"We're not here to chat over aliases." Technoblade cut in and Wilbur clenched his fist, removing his hand from Tommy and folding them neatly behind his back.
"Right. The Butcher Army is after your head and it consists of both our people." Wilbur smiled behind his mask. Force of habit to appear charming and all.
"No habits. Stop it. Phil will notice." He reminded himself and dropped the smirk. He didn't know if there was anything in his body language to show the grin but he didn't want to risk it.
"Your men are leading it." Technoblade reminded him and Wilbur felt the sting of Quackity's betrayal. And just after losing Eret. It hurt like a bitch to remember.
"Quackity is not one of ours. He completed President's exit trial." Tommy had stilled his temper apparently and Wilbur sent a silent thanks to the heavens.
"I wasn't aware people could leave L'manberg." Phil observed curiously and Wilbur bared his teeth behind the mask.
"It's a difficult task, like everything else and if you'll notice, Quackity isn't exactly untouched." There was an ugly scar running down the man's chest where Wilbur had sliced him. Quackity had earned his keep, and his silence, so Wilbur was forced to send him to a healer known as Ponk. Ponk was in a duo with a technician Wilbur knew as Warden. Warden made all their technology at a costly price, and his loyalty was undecided. He was a neutral party and Wilbur had reluctantly agreed to offer them protection in exchange for services.
"That doesn't change the fact that two more known L'manberg members are in the Butcher Army." Phil reminds him and Wilbur straightens his back at the threatening tone.
"Doesn't change the fact that one of your trusted members is as well." Wilbur looked to Technoblade. "I wonder what violence you must've done to him to make Ranboo hate you enough to join your own murder gang."
Technoblade growled. Oh he growled and Wilbur growled back.
"Prince doesn't hate me." Technoblade growled the code name and Wilbur chuckled, stepping in front of Tommy and facing his brother.
"Ranboo, has met with us a few times himself. He's taken a fondness to-" Tommy kicks Wilbur in the calf and Wilbur blinks. The enchantment vanishes and Wilbur steps away.
Adrenaline; that was part of Technoblade's powers. Causing so much of it to go through a person they don't think clearly until its too late. Perfect for hunting down those who've crossed him and the Syndicate.
"Fond of who? Go on." Technoblade dared and bared his fangs in an ugly smirk. Wilbur scowled.
"This was supposed to be peaceful." Wilbur muttered, lacing his Influence into his tone. Technoblade blinked away the magic quickly, it was weak, only meant to suggest the idea of calming things down. nothing that would alert Phil at whose powers his own were so similar to.
"It is." Phil said, Wilbur's voice had never worked on him. Probably something to do with those damn bird traits of his.
"You've done nothing but threaten and accuse." Tommy stepped back to Wilbur's side.
"Allegedly." Phil said and flared his black wings. "You take care of your own, and we'll handle ours. how's that sound?"
There was something ominous. Something warning and teasing and something that told Wilbur that Phil knew something he shouldn't. A habit of presenting himself as charming and intelligent surely couldn't be enough to narrow it down. Phil did like the hunt though.
That much Wilbur knew for a fact.
Hehehehe
Anyways, I'm working on maybe making an A03 account and publishing this fic there. I need a title though. I didn't expect this to turn into something. This started as an AU rant...now I need titles and I'll figure out a proper name for the AU later

Metaru i came up with another au concept
basically, everyone in L'manberg (minus Jack) and c!Dream ge sent back to the days of early L'manberg, all of their previous memories intact
the interesting bit?
they're not all from the same time period.
to quickly summarize:
c!Tubbo and c!Dream: close to around the end of the lore, think Spetember 2022. basically, these two are the only ones who know how everything will play out
c!Wilbur: basically got yanked out of Limbo
c!Tommy: pretty much mid-Exile arc. like...he's Really not doing too well
c!Fundy: mid-April 2021 (having nightmares, basically a week or two before he'd be asked to join Las Nevadas)
c!Eret: mid-December 2020 (so basically around the same time as c!Tommy. Is Also Not Doing Well)
c!Niki: late-March 2021 to early-April 2021 (not doing well and also recently attempted to murder a child)
c!Quackity (when he finally joins): May-July 2021 (Las Nevadas)
c!Ranboo (when they finally join): April-May 2021 (brother-in-law (c!Tommy) is Having A Bad Time, just trying to chill with his family, dealing with Enderwalk/c!Dream and c!Punz related issues)
so yeah. some people are just relishing in the fact that they've got a second chance, others are trying to Not make the same mistakes they did previously (*cough* Eret *cough*), and a few other are effectively questioning reality (c!Tommy thinks that this whole thing is a dream he's having in Exile, and Fundy believe that everything pre-Reset was a prophetic nightmare (he's wrong, but keep in mind that he Is coming from a time where he's realizing that he has prophetic dreams))
but c!Tubbo and Dream?
well...Tubbo's trying to Un-F**k Everything Up to the best of his ability
and Dream? he's trying to RE-F**k Everything Up Somehow Even Worse Than It Was Previously
Aaaaaaa this is so cool

25. Have you ever upset yourself with your own writing?
yes. many times. writing process typically swings between getting really emo about the characters and going full sickos mode about it all. things that I would call upsetting would probably be all of I speak as one about to die. mmm tragedy. and the torture scenes in NO SAFE PLACE. especially the part about Lazar. Um. Crumbling like a wet cookie? turns out writing torture deals psychic damage to me, who knew. other fics have been sad for me and lived in my brain for a while but i would not call them upsetting on the same level.
12. Do you have a playlist for your current WIP(s)? Share it!
I don't have playlists for my current WIPs. I haven't really gotten into the habit, though I totally should, but usually my character/relationship playlists serve the same function. Anyways I did make one for the cquackity / karlnapity & cdream slasher wedding fic that is currently. not being worked on at all. it is. entirely made up of songs from Bleed Out and MCR songs.
15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?
I use a lot of song lyrics! A lot of mountain goats lyrics. 13 out of my 32 works use tmg lyrics for titles. I look for songs that I feel like match the vibe or theme of the fic. The Mountain Goats have many songs with many themes. Otherwise I like using lines from the source text, if the fic in question was inspired by or was an au of something. Silver Dollar is from Arguing with the Ghost of Peter Laughner About His Coney Island Baby Review by TMG. because like. Dead guy. Elegy. gestures vaguely. put on your chairman mao coat because it pleases me to have that as a title and because commandante can be about dream and sapnap actually, if you look at it from the angle i'm standing at. Harlem Roulette can be about fundy and q, etc etc.
Everything Now As Day is a line from the Menelaiad by John Barth and WE ALL THINK YOU'RE A GRAND GIRL is a line from Antigonick by Anne Carson. I speak as one about to die is from Anne Carson's translation of Agamemnon. Kassandra says it :) you don't have to love it is a line from CM Punk's snake promo. left pining for transience is a line from the deeply wonderful Fiona Lu's poem Turing Test. dawn and mourning dove grey and turning from the plow are both lines from a song from the webcomic Sword Interval by Ben Fleuter, since both those fics exist in the SI au. The chapter titles for dawn and mourning dove grey are the names of the entries in the apocalypse log that reveals the circumstances of the worldbuilding and sets the stage for the final arc of the webcomic.
Titles that aren't direct references to something are still made with consideration to the fic itself. sometimes a fic is big enough 2 warrant a very simple and encompassing title as The Death Poem. The fox who traveled to the end of the world is called that bc I was trying very hard to emulate the style of the fairy tales and fables I read growing up, and those are like. Decently straightforward and referring 2 fundy as a fox emphasizes his trickster-ness. NO SAFE PLACE and BED [DIS]ASSEMBLY are like that because i appreciate all caps quite a lot, maybe an ill-advised amount. also sometimes its just the vibes. the vibes call for all caps.
before we cut to Alexandria is. hm. Well I can't recall atm the exact leaps in my thought process but the general gist is that it's a study of a very specific and liminal period of cabinetduo's relationship, set between the larger and Historical events of the election and the red festival and nov16, and Alexandria is this big important city and it's also a place that gets kind of famously destroyed a little but this isn't yet about Alexandria/L'Manberg. The poem doesn't even leave the White House. I also know it was inspired somehow by tmg's album Songs for Pierre Chuvin.
Journeying Into the Center of the Earth To Retrieve Your Dead Ex Boyfriend because that is what the fic is about and though it is not an instruction manual it is still a detailing of a process. and also because the concept was inspired by Carmen Maria Machado's Help Me Follow My Sister Into the Land of the Dead

Sorry for the wait! I attempted to work on some art for this but very quickly lost motivation!
With AUs, the one I've probably talked about least is The Death of a CEO.
The Death of a CEO (which could be shortened to TDOAC or maybe TDCEO I suppose would be easier) was inspired partially by a friend recounting some of the plot of Spy x Family to me which caused me to get interested in some of the general ideas (spies, disguises, work romances, assasinations, etc.) The setting was inspired by the game Sub Rosa for reasons I don't really remember.
Tumblr media
The gist of the plot would be a mixed around retelling of the Manberg Pogtopia conflict as well as the Badlands. It's set in a large lawless capitalist city in the middle of a desert. A few people vye for power as plutocrats while many more are made to work to largely pointless tasks. As of the time of the story, the Badlands have taken complete control of the city and have ruled it for several decades, though in more recent times it has mainly been Badboyhalo and Skeppy acting alone, Puffy falling into depression, Sam going off to work on a project deep under the city and Ant going missing.
Tumblr media
The other main focus is L'Manberg, an independent faction based around equality and peace that has constructed a town deep within the supports of the city. They fought hard with police/security, but have come to a fragile peace just before the events of the story by negotiating with the local security captain (Dream) to keep them unnoticed. Prior to the story Eret sold the town out in an attempt to become a high ranking politician and possibly fix things that way (it's not going well for her) so the area currently consists of Niki, Jack, Ponk, Tubbo, Fundy, Tommy, Quackity, Dream (kinda), and Wilbur.
Tumblr media
The story itself begins with the return of a businessman who left the city years ago and is coming back rich off of oil drilling and with a powerful company. Jschlatt arrives by train with his two sons (Grunk and Ty from SMPLive) and an assistant (Ranboo.)
Tumblr media
The bulk of the story focuses on the interactions between Jschlatt, The Badlands, and L'Manberg, and would possibly culminate in his death and something with the Egg.

for some comfort, have some Eret headcanons from a Modern Au i have:
- they aren't just a descendent of Herobrine, they're also a bat hybrid! :] they've also got REALLY light pink hair, to where it practically looks white. i dunno, there's something about c!Eret with that color of hair that feels right, can't explain it.
- she's also got a bit of a goth aesthetic going on, too. also feels like it fits her.
- not sure about his profession yet. maybe a pretty famous artist? works at museum? both somehow?
- they live in the L'man Apartment with everyone else. (the place where most L'manberg members live, along with a few others; Wilbur, Niki, Jack, Fundy, Clem (c!Tommy), Tubbo, Quackity, Ranboo (eventually), and of course Eret :])
- Eret and Dream have a rather. complicated history with each other. nobody knows what it is or what happened there, they just know that the two didn't date, they're just ex-friends of sorts.
- nobody knows how old Eret actually is. the current range guess is between about one hundred years and As Old As Society Itself. he looks like he's in his twenties, for reference.
- a lot of people, usually upon first meeting Eret, usually think that she's pretty calm and regal, given how she looks and dresses. no, she's just as chaotic as anyone else in the apartment.
This is really cool, is the fic already up?

RIGHT so the pirate au
well it's nothing very original don't get your hopes up or anything BUT. basically it's mainly lmancrew (with a crimeboys focus) and tntduo centered and it's set in like a medieval-esque fictional setting like basically six of crows minus the magic. like i literally typed six of crows into pinterest to get good images those are the vibes
wilbur's captain of this ship called the l'manberg (ok no but i hesitated between naming the fish or their og town lmanburg but i ended up naming the ship that because i just think it's such a good ship name like . she/her in a boat way. does this make sense) and the crew is niki, jack, eret, fundy and tubbo (well obviously theres more people cause how would a ship Function but the rest of those are Unnamed background characters).
wilbur's also a pretty high ranked official like idk general or captain of the guard idk how the military works i would have to figure that out, but basically he's kinda famous and so's his ship. they aren't participating in a war it's more of like an explorer position because wilbur's known for being a brilliant cartographer and so the previous king just kinda appointed him to this new position to let him fuck off & do his own thing mapping the whole world with his crew. the issue is the old king died with no heir and replaced by his nephew (dream) who's much more controlling and power-hungry than he was and who doesn't want to waste money & resources on some bs like maps. this will create Conflict (im so good at narration guys. Help)
tommy's like a homeless orphan (as he alwyas is) and really needs a job and money and all that and he hears the l'manburg isn't at sea for once and wilbur & his crew are taking a rest at the capital for a couple days before sailing back off again. naturally he sneaks in, lives in the storage room for like a week or two, surviving off scraps of food . then tubbo stumbles across him and almost reports him, but tommy convinces him not to and so tubbo helps him for a couple days. then someone else finds him, and he's brought to the captain and they all threaten to throw the stowaway overboard (they wouldn't actually they're all kinda softies) and tommy's like pissing himself from how scared he is especially cause wilbur's like . this really famous general who's had books and songs written about him and shit (he doesn't know yet hes just an annoying pretentious prick (/lovingly)) so he's like Ohmygod im dead and then wilbur's like . "Can you cook" "erm no" "can you clean" "yeah ig" "Can you fight even somewhat decently" "yeah bitch me and my knives are the best they call me th-" "Ok you're hired" AND THUS tommy joins the crew
and so they keep on sailing with their mission yadda yadda and WHAM they encounter the most notorious pirate crew of the continent, named, you guessed it, las nevadas. and tommy's heard a lot of proper horror stories about them and he's terrified but the crew have fought them off a bunch of times before so they're mainly annoyed because they're gonna have to deal with the frankly disgustingly homoerotic rivalry that their captain and the pirate captain have been passionately engaging in for several years now. THATS RIGHT TNTDUO BABY oh they are so pathetic and so gay it's actually embarrassing they'll have like sword duels . wilbur's the uptight, bitchy, and somewhat pretentious general with perfectly styled hair and ornate coat always huffing and puffing and waxing poetry meanwhile quackity's the fuckin bad boy stereotype with like a half unbuttoned poet or blackshirt (slut) (wilbur cannot stop staring its embarrassing) and he's always hanging off ropes and shit and doing sick acrobatics and taunting wilbur GOD they're so. and yeah they have sword duels where all they do is "distract the opponent" in order to "efficiently win the battle" which is code for "practically make out while hurling insults at each other"
also crimeboys is like "in awe of the legendary general" "who is this child on my boat" >>> "oh my god the general's a prick" "oh my god the child's a demon" >>> "maybe he's not that bad but i would rather die and curse his entire family line than admit that" >>> "that is my brother i would die for him and if you lay a hand upon him you won't have hands anymore" (the funny thing is they both end up with that same level of protectiveness and making the same threats despite wilbur being a like Adult and high ranked official with power and influence and decades of training of elaborate swordsmanship behind him . and tommy is a stowaway fifteen year old orphan with three knives and teeth and a whole lot of anger . but they're both like "no i must protect and die for the other" im sorry i just love them ok theyre so stupid) i just LOVE crimeboys having to go through begrudging bonding instead of instantly being ride or die brothers GIVE ME TO MORE ENEMIES TO FRIENDS TO LOVERS anyway
also we also get emerald duo in the form of them being co-captains (please pretend that is a thing i know Nothing about anything ever) of this other ship and they're like independent merchants or whatever idk i have not figured out that whole bit yet MY POINT IS they're not affiliated with anyone they just sorta do their own thing and only help people if they want to or are indebted . they help out wilbur sometimes cause he's a dumbass
speaking of wilbur like i said he's had books and songs written about him (his age is kind of a grey zone like on one hand he's pretty young for a general but he's also had time to become this like famous and mysterious figure so can't be Too young . so i think probably like 27-29? smth like that) and one of them was a legend about how he fell in love with a mermaid . yes she had red hair and teal scales and her name was sally BUT SHE'S STILL AN OCEAN MERMAID I KNOW SALMONS LIVE IN RIVERS anyway . also for little tntduo crumbs he's called quackity a siren multiple times (in his mind he's insulting him like "ooh you manipulate people" and everyone around him is like "that is the Gayest thing you could possibly have said") and quackity's like "didnt you date a mermaid" "yeah but sirens are like evil mermaids" "so you want to date me" and then wilbur stabs him
ALSO more about wilbur's character development (this is a bit spoilerish but also it's not like im ever writing this full fic so you're not exactly risking much but just be warned) he starts out like i said as this really uptight military official who started when he was really young and trained really hard and flew through the ranks really fast because he worked his ass off . And so he's Very protective of his rank & title & prestige not so much because he's snobbish but because he worked so hard for it but so it often comes across as him being this like pretentious fuck (well he's also pretentious but thats just wilbur) . also he originally dreamed of being a cartographer and he spent his whole childhood drawing up maps but then he realised he couldn't make a living out of that so he decided to work hard enough to be at the top and then do what he wanted. and so he wears like his tricorn hat with a feather and his ornate coat and neatly tucked in shirt and everything cause for him it's like Proof that he Did it yknow . but then as time goes by, especially in the presence of quackity (who's very antihero-esque and so does not give a shit about ranks or whatever he's a pirate he does his own thing) and also a bit tommy (who was literally dressed in rags until they clothed and fed him but still behaves like a street rat on the most famous ship of the country) he slowly loosens up and he ends up ditching the coat and the hat and instead wears more stuff like loose poet shirts (open because he's a slut) . and so yeah character development through clothing and whatnot
ok so YEAH those are the tidbits that were plaguing my mind the most but there's definitely a whole lot more in my head like ive got a pinterest board and shit

i’d love to hear abt that first modern au you mentioned (the Niki centric one)
link to where the au was mentioned here! going to say big content warning for suicide on this one because it is literally about c!wilbur's suicide in a modern au context
oh yeah that one is freaking tragic. okay so essentially the original l'manberg crew all lived near each other and were good friends in relative late teens-early twenties harmony (i imagined this fic being set in aust because of course i did... more on that later) and wilbur ends up working in electoral offices. unfortunately for as much as he loves politics, politics does not love him back - he has a lot of deep-seated issues with anxiety and paranoia which only exacerbate with the stress he takes on at work. after taking on some big new role he moves across the country with tommy, who manages to drag tubbo with them. niki and fundy make him promise to stay in touch and predictably he does not. the few times niki does manage to get a hold of him, he's evasive; when fundy yells at him over the phone, he does little to disparage the insults. the rest of so-called l'manberg moves apart.
and then wilbur dies.
it is extremely bad. the only friends or family to speak of that wilbur had in his new home were tommy and tubbo - tubbo is very barely keeping things together enough to sort out paperwork and funeral proceedings and the other grim administration that follows an unexpected death, and tommy is not keeping things together at all. the news rocks the far-flung members of their once-little family. wilbur had been distant, maybe down on himself - but no one expected him to kill himself. niki didn't. niki had just trusted that this was some adjustment period and he would be okay and wilbur would start replying to her texts again or maybe even move back and it would be okay. this wasn't supposed to be the end. the news absolutely wrecks her, and she can't tell how much of her is sad and how much of her is angry and how much of her is a fucked up combination of both - a seething mass of barely-held-back tears and shouting.
niki, who had moved back to their childhood city in the interim, books a flight across the state to go see tommy and tubbo for the funeral. she is alarmed and pissed off to run into phil and techno at the airport, on the very same flight as her - wilbur's dad and his uhh techno (dad's friend? brother-ish-person? acquaintance? no one could get a consistent story out of them). they're not super happy to run into her and her attitude either - wilbur had not been close with his family even while l'manberg operated as a unit, and niki had made her judgements of his family accordingly. in a very c!niki way. i.e. with stubborn vindictiveness. if wilbur was struggling so much that even she didn't realise the severity until it was too late, where was his family?
phil and techno, on the other side of the coin, had figured that wilbur's friends were nothing to be impressed with - especially given wilbur's apparent struggles with mental health that kind of blindsided them. where were his friends? i'm assuming they might have taken an incidental reputation hit in letters wilbur wrote to phil as he tried to stress that everything in his life was going Perfectly.
(niki blames phil and techno because the alternative means that she has to blame herself. she needs to lash out at something to survive! phil and techno blame wilbur's friends (not just niki, she's just the one who is standing there...) because the alternative means blaming themselves. they're all being a bit shitty and spewing these unfair takes on each other because no one can cope with the idea that it's their fault their friend/son died.)
anyway airport! they snip and bitch their way at each other through check-in until it happens that the flight is indefinitely delayed due to freak weather or something - but all three of them need to cross the country by like, early next week to make it to the funeral. they do not have time for flight delays.
so eyeing each other with suspicion - and knowing damn well they are going to the exact same place - they trundle over to the hire car service, and find a wagon available for them to hire right away.
the catch is (probably because niki is too young to hire a car on her own. sorry niki) they have to hitch a ride together.
(okay circling back to the australia setting thing! imagine niki, phil and techno living in sydney, and wilbur, tommy and tubbo moving to perth. driving from sydney to perth and vice versa is A Thing, although it's far less common now due to air fares becoming more accessible. y'know driving across the nullabor? it's like, that plus the little bit between adelaide and sydney. if you're gunning it (for example, if you have three drivers to tag-team between), you can make it from sydney to perth in 3 and a half days. now, you'd probably only want to go that fast for something really important, like if you were driving to a friend's funeral with his shitty family who you've decided that you hate.)
oh, also they find a kid in the parking lot who begs them to take him with them when they tell him that the flight was cancelled - he's in an absolute tizzy because his online friend has had something really bad happen, like really bad, and he impulsively bought a plane ticket because he needs to go see him now now now. they let ranboo in because they're so nice and also because techno peer pressures him into stealing them potato chips for the road or something idk
anyway! hence ensues three and a half days of bonding as niki, phil and techno are stuck in a car with nothing but each other and their grief (and ranboo). they talk about wilbur. they realise there are things one of them knew about wilbur that the others didn't. they watch stars stream past as they constantly drive and the sunrise spill over the sand when they pause at a rest stop to get more food and water. they share different parts of wilbur's life that they were each there for - phil has the baby stories, but niki has every stupid anecdote from uni. they bond with each other independent of wilbur. niki and techno talk about baking and try to kick each other in the sand when they stop to stretch their legs. ranboo sees a kangaroo for the first time (how?). phil reveals the absolute blowout fight he and wilbur had shortly before wilbur died and for the first time since the phone call from fundy, niki doesn't blame someone for his death
i'm just thinkin.....they've stopped for the night out in the middle of nowhere, its an endless orange dustbowl as far as the eye can see, night sky stretching up above them. they're miles away from anything but a petrol station, and the stars are brilliantly bright. and someone just says, "wilbur would have loved this"
eventually they do make it across the country - right on time, they have to take turns getting changed into their funeral blacks in the back of the car as the others guard the windows - and they're tentatively, but permanently, friends. and then they can grieve.
(and yes, the second they find tommy and tubbo in the crowd, ranboo comes out of nowhere to scoop tubbo up into a hug and ask if he's alright - because yes, the world is That Fucking Small.)
anyway. i imagine it being a very melancholic piece - very fraught tone at the beginning as everyone is grieving and can't handle that so they shove all their grief and confusion into anger and shove it at each other, picking petty fights until they realise they are literally not going to back it across if they don't pull their shit together. they try to get along, but the only thing they know they have in common is wilbur. and from there the assumptions spill out, followed by the corrections to those assumptions, then the stories, then how they're all feeling... eventually they settle on the fact that, well, wilbur's dead. they can kick around who they blame and whose fault it is (including their own) for the rest of their lives, and it's never going to bring them back. so instead, they lean on each other - knowing extremely keenly what each other is going through as they process all that cloudy confusion and anger and devastation in the direct aftermath so they can all properly grieve, and properly lay wilbur to rest.

I'm having too many thoughts of fucking soulmates aus now so have some little tidbits for a potential fic or smth I may write. This is dsmp based I'm sorry.
Soulmates take a while to form, and the bond is only truly established during moments of large emotional impact with your soulmate, whether it's stressful and traumatic or an extremely happy moment. Before then, the bond isn't final and therefore any effects such as intertwined lives doesn't get taken into account until the marks show up. Soulmates also don't form until people are around 16.
Soul marks! They show up when the bond is finally established, and tend to be something mutually significant. It can be a scar, a birthmark or even like a tattoo.
Soulmate bonds can break in certain circumstances, such as an event that may make them feel severely disconnected from their soulmate/others.
Lives are intertwined, if one dies, then the other also dies.
List of people I think would be soulmates:
Wilbur and Quackity, they realised during the burger van arc.
Sapnap and Karl.
George doesn't have a soulmate for reasons (XD wanted George so he was made off-limits)
Tubbo and Ranboo, obviously. The bond doesn't sever with Ranboo's death.
Techno and Phil. It's not romantic or a qpr, they're just destined besties and that's okay.
Ponk and Sam, but after the whole mess their bond was severed. Neither have picked up a new soulmate bond yet.
Ant and Velvet.
Skeppy and Bad, though their bond became severed after the eggpire shit.
Lazarbeam and Vikkstar, their bond was established during the revive book experiment stuff. Platonic or not, your decision.
Niki and Puffy have a sort of strained bond, however they still remain soulmates. Niki and Jack are self-declared platonic soulmates, destined besties if you will.
Purpled and Fundy are platonic soulmates, becoming so bonding over the whole betrayal from Las Nevadas thing.
Schlatt and Quackity were soulmates, though during Manberg it faded until it severed during the red festival.
On the line of faded bonds: Eret and Wilbur (platonic), who's bond was severed during the final control room.
Eret and Foolish become platonic soulmates when Foolish comes to the smp.
Tommy and Tubbo are unofficial platonic soulmates, with Ranboo being pulled into the mix when his and Tubbo's bond is established. They're besties for life and have little marks for each other they all redo. Tubbo still refreshes his mark for Tommy. Tommy keeps both of his.
I feel like these wouldn't have soulmates:
Slimecicle due to his species not having soulmates.
Punz simply because they have no interest in soulmates.
Jack doesn't have an 'official' soulmate but he has an unofficial soulmate.
Connor is too busy being sonic.
And, of course, the last ones I've got some modicum of an idea for: Tommy and Dream, platonic soulmates. Dream specifically fostered that type of bond during exile to keep Tommy linked to him, so he wouldn't be killed during the final disc confrontation.
To expand on discduo, here's some fun tidbits about them:
Their bond is established during the beach party, as that is when Tommy accepts Dream is truly his only friend and the only one to care for him. It's one established due to extreme stress and desperation, and due to the unhealthy obsession on Dream's part.
During exile, Dream purposefully damaged the area Tommy originally kept his mark for Tubbo, punishing him if he tried to fix it or redo it. Tommy eventually stopped doing it all-together.
Little sidenote: Techno was the one who encouraged him to redo it after exile, despite thinking that nobody in L'Manberg wanted Tommy, because he values the importance of soulmates despite everything.
The only reason Dream went with them during the disc confrontation was because Tommy threatened to die otherwise, which would reveal their bond and Dream wanted that secret for fucked up evil reasons. Except, their bond doesn't have their lives intrinsically intertwined, only their mortality (so if Tommy is mortal, Dream is, and if Tommy is immortal, Dream is immortal too).
Their bond hasn't broken despite the prison and such, as revival caused it to become a permanent bond due to Dream being the one to revive him. Tommy tries his best to cover the mark.
Anyways that's my fucked up evil lil soulmate au, just some good old discduo shit going on. Feel free to give more fucked up evil ideas.

did i ever say anything about my factionswap au? here's my factionswap au:
corrupted snowchester/team drift compatible (eggpire/snowchester swap): one day while trying to retrieve lost items, jack manifold finds the beating heart of snowchester. it kills him to look at it, but, as always, he returns from hell with a new gospel to spread. strange animals the size of buildings begin to walk the smp, changed permanently by the heart. after converting tubbo, ranboo, puffy, and foolish, team drift compatible (bad, skeppy, ponk, punz, antfrost, and hannah) form in opposition
the lonely city/strange roots (kinoko/niki's secret city swap): unwilling to be ignored ever again, niki built the city to touch the sky, with high peaks and enough supplies to feed the server. it doesn't matter that she's the only one in the city; its entirely self sufficient, with every building hiding a different farm. friend to all, ally to none. meanwhile, karl, fearing the worst for his library, retreated deep into the caves underneath the city and reads by the light of the glowberries. they say the residents of kinoko (karl, sapnap, george, tina, and corpse) only appear on the surface at night- if you see a man with glowing eyes, don't be scared. he'll probably just ask you if you want to watch cartoons with him.
city of angels/the speakeasy (syndicate/las nevadas swap): tired of being powerless, quackity forms a secret society (quackity, fundy, foolish, slime, and purpled) dedicated to wrestling control over the server. their first target is the mysterious city of angels, a strange faction whose goals are unknown, but whose members (techno, philza, niki, ranboo, whoever the fuck harpocrates is, and connor) walk freely among all others
mad king's domain/knights errant (l'manberg/greater dsmp swap): eret sees the writing on the wall before anybody else does- wilbur is cracking under the pressure, and she's not going to be there when he snaps. she takes the knights errant (eret, puffy, punz, ponk, hbomb, eryn, hannah, boomer) and makes a run for it. unfortunately for her, wilbur (as well as tommy, tubbo, niki, jack, and fundy) takes this as an act of rebellion, and declares war.
i wrote all this in march lmao i still kinda want to do something with it

OH IF WE'RE TALKING ORIGINS. This isn't super related to the last ask i just saw origins and went 👀 but if youd like. i have some headcanons !!
so in my mind. origins takes place in a canon divergent au from the disc smp . kind of.
cwilbur's death threw l'manberg into ruin and it was quickly abandoned. a final battle occurred much sooner than anyone expected, exile never happened, and many members of the server never joined since it technically ended in season 1. the details get a bit muddy from there, but many people ended up on a new continent.
Wilbur had taken a different path after his death. Instead of going to the train station, he essentially tore a hole through limbo, fused with his ghost and became a phantom. He wanted another chance to make up for what he'd done, so he decided to dedicate his "life" to making people feel safe and at home by building The Pub. Fundy went with him.
Tubbo became an engineer and with a bit of work, modeled himself a permanent pair of wings and antennae based off of bees, since he they made him happy (and being able to fly is awesome). He happened across the pub next, reconciled with Wilbur, and continued working on his inventions.
Tommy, being Phil's son, lived with him for a few years while his wings grew in, and eventually they set out for new lands where they found Wilbur and his pub, and where Tommy and Tubbo reunited.
c!Ranboo had never existed in this au; instead, Origins!Ranboo was exiled from the End after working her whole life to join The Council. Disgraced, she became hyperpossessive of anything she could find, hence her spoiled attitude, and also happened across the Pub where she became close with both Tommy and Tubbo, and realized she was a trans woman.
Techno is a shapeshifter in this au. Leaving his days of war behind him and going with Phil and Tommy, he took on the form of a rabbit instead of a boar. When asked why, he said that rabbits could actually do quite a bit of damage if they wanted to, but were content avoiding conflict and living in peace, and that this form represents that.
I LOVEE THIS (and not jsut bc i have an osmp is postcanon dsmp fic)

I find your Cyberwave Au really interesting, but my mind is blank on things to ask about so here i go :
What plans/insight might you be able to give us about Tubbo’s inventions?
Also do you have anything more about how tubbo and ranboo incorpate their respective skills into a final product? I know the doc already talks about prototyping, but any other ideas about the workflow would be really cool.
thanks a bunch, your work is awesome btw.
!! I am glad you like it :D
So! Tubbo's specialty is weapons, but he was one of the first people to figure out how to make things glow at bright levels and for a long time. It is a very difficult process that sort of mixes brewing skill, chemistry, and engineering. The basis of the ingredients would be glowstone dust and dyes but it gets more complicated when you want it to be bright and long lasting, especially incorporating it into things like paints.
This was a big breakthrough that several people were working on at the same time, namely Sam and Fundy. They'd all gotten close but Tubbo had perfected his recipe and it's what is widely used everywhere. Tubbo is sort of a mad scientist/inventor in the sense that he just throws together all sorts of things to see what the outcome could be.
Other than crafting weapons for both Snowchester & L'manberg's use and to sell to Las Nevadas, he's also helped manufacture things like holograms that project and shine onto walls. He's not the only person producing this stuff. Sam is also really big into production.
The way Ranboo & Tubbo work is really interesting!
In this au, Ranboo arrived in the place well before the New L'manberg era would've been, just because all that stuff didn't happen. If you want a timeline? He would've arrived more so around the election, which is just before everything went dark. Because of this, he and Tubbo have had a lot longer to get to know each other- really everyone. Ranboo and Tubbo still wind up married, and they still wind up with Michael, though it's under very different circumstances.
Tubbo has one invention that perplexes everyone, but no one really knows he was the one who made it, well all but the owner.
Tubbo crafted Ranboo's shield. This shield is super strong in durability, resistant to even his own weapon which disables most technological based ones, and it has a unique feature of letting him teleport. Some suspect that it's Ranboo simply being half enderman, others are onto the fact that it's the shield and are very curious on how it works, but none quite know it's Tubbo's doing. He has more in the works.
Ranboo's expertise and natural talent lies in blacksmithing and enchanting as well as just general metal working. He used to help keep L'manberg suppled, and when lights went out Tubbo went to him for help.
Tubbo is sort of the creative genuis when it comes to the stuff he makes, creating diagrams and blueprints on how things should work, and Ranboo helps put together parts for prototypes and testing, though because he knows how things are put together easiest, he'll also help Tubbo with planning parts to fit together better. He only really handles prototypes and test parts though. Once they've created things that function, Tubbo will present it to Quackity in Las Nevadas.
9/10 times, Quackity accepts and will take the blueprints. He has the materials and means to mass produce objects with ease and perfection each and every time. If he doesn't accept, it's usually just because he thinks Tubbo can come up with something better, so it's back to the drawing board.
Ranboo does create things that aren't meant to be mass produced. Most of the parts in Tommy's gun was smithed by him and put together by Tubbo. He's supplied plating for Wilbur when he was making GHOST-bur, and he generally just helps around when he can.
Other than just metal smithing though, Ranboo is very skilled in enchantments, and has been able to enchant quite a number of newer inventions and objects that weren't able to be enchanted by others. He's even been able to enchant some of the clothing and fabric that Tommy crafts, which then is put into other uses.
They just sort of blend together smoothly- they help each other whenever possible, and they've been around each other long enough to know their strengths and weaknesses and how to apply them to each other.
Though, there is quite a lot of the 'fuck around and find out' mentality.

This is also a sleepy bios inc family au, Philza is their father and Mumza their mother. Techno and Wilbur are twins with Techno being older than Wilbur by two minutes and Tommy being the youngest.
Mumza is the goddess of death, not long after Tommy was born she died (she was human) and then after her death became the goddess of death. She's not around because of her being dead and the goddess of death.
Also, Sally the Salmon does exist, but as soon as Fundy was born (like a few hours after) she left Fundy with Wilbur and disappeared and was never seen again. They were young when they had him, they were around 18 at the time. Wilbur started L'Manberg when he was 19.
Also since Fundy is a fox, he'll age like a fox which means his growth is so much faster than abnormal humans. A fox that's 1 year in fox age is 14 in human years. Now, Fundy will age slower than that. His 1 fox year will be 4 in human years. So 5 year after his birth, he would be 20 years of age. He would look 20 years old, not 5 (he will age in his fox years, not human).
So when Wilbur was 23, he died due to losing the election and blowing up L'Manberg
Anyways, hope you enjoy!

Wrote a little something for the “L'Manberg loses” AU. Might put this on AO3 it ended up much longer than I expected.
TW: Imprisonment, kidnapping, complete loss of control, abuse, Stockholm Syndrome, manipulation, gaslighting, body image issues, isolation.
It is a Sunday, and so Tommy wakes up at eight AM on the dot.
Weekends mean little here, but those few scant hours of extra sleep are something he treasures. Those few moments he can spend pretending everything is fine, he’s back at L'Manberg which exists and is not destroyed with friends who didn’t abandon him, they were the best part of the day. He would never tell Dream that, of course, but it was true. That, he supposes, is his last act of rebellion.
His quarters- his glorified cell- in Eret's castle is larger than the embassy that was his home, but it still feels suffocatingly small. The canopy bed he is in threatens to consume him in its softness, in the delicate pillows and blankets, but he forces himself out of their maw, blearily walking into the en-suite and turning on the shower. He'd always preferred baths, himself, but he wasn’t allowed anything he could use to hurt himself after the incident, and besides he only had thirty minutes to get ready before Dream showed up so there was hardly time for a nice bath.
The water is warm and the soap smells of flowers Tommy can't name. He spends as little time as possible in there, throwing his pyjamas hap-hazardly in the clothes pile he kept near the door and throwing together whatever clothes he could find. All he had was fancy shit- not like ties or anything, but the sort of shit Wilbur would wear, button shirts and sweater vests, and he has no idea nor care on how to style it. The fabric is the same sort of soft his hoodie was.
Part of being disciplined was taking care of yourself, that’s what Dream always said. Dream was always trying to help him out in ways like that. L'Manberg would have just let Tommy run wild, while Dream was here trying to help him get over his behaviour, become a good kid. Discipline, education, manners, obedience, Dream teaches Tommy that and more out of the kindness of his heart. Maybe he has to be harsh, but Tommy means it when he thanks him at the end of every session.
Hair was always difficult. That was Tommy's fault, though. He'd cut his hair short before he'd joined the server so no one could doubt he was a Big Man, but he’d always preferred it long. In the first few days here, Dream had trimmed Tommy's hair daily, but he'd sheepishly asked to grow it out and Dream obliged without issue. Tommy didn’t feel grateful then, but now he knows that any choice is a victory, something you have to earn. Didn’t stop detangling the knots each morning from being annoying as fuck, though.
By the time Tommy's hair is as soft as he can make it, he can head the sound of the lock to his room opening, and today the excitement of that feels a little less sickening than it did the previous day. As always, Tommy stands near the door in wait, smiling, and waits patiently for Dream to enter.
Dream is in a good mood today, Tommy can tell, by the fact he's not holding anything in his hands. Sometimes, when Dream is upset because of how people treat him, he enters already holding a tool and needs to punish Tommy straight away. Tommy's not sure if those days are better or worse. Those were the days he didn’t have to learn anything, and Dream would apologise while tending to his wounds and tell him how much he didn’t want to do it but Wilbur or Tubbo or Fundy forced his hand and they’d spend the whole day on Animal Crossing or drawing or some stupid but fun shit.
But, since Dream is in a good mood, that means it’s Tommy's job to learn, and he better put in the fucking effort to do well else the punishment would hurt more than the days Dream came in already pissed off. It’s fine, though, as long as he tries his best. He might even get a reward (once, even, he got a second meal for the day, and that was the greatest thing ever and he felt so impossibly good for like a week until the hunger set in again), so he supposes that does make it the better possibility.
“Good morning, Dream,” Tommy chirps like he's taught to, and Dream ruffles his hair in a way Tommy can pretend it’s Wilbur.
“Good, you remembered your manners today.”
“Course I did, I'm the fuckin' best.” Dream laughs at that, but worry still bubbles in Tommy's stomach that that was the wrong thing to say. He isn’t hit, so it must be okay. Dream motions to allow Tommy to sit, and Tommy goes to the table by the barred windows as Dream hangs up his mask. The leaves outside are orange and yellow, falling from the trees. The fact it’s autumn still doesn’t feel right, the last time he could remember going outside being when the sun was bright and heavy. He hasn’t been here that long, has he?
He wonders what the people outside are doing. Are they listening to leaves crunching under their feet, jumping into piles like Tommy did when he was young? Are they having picnics, under the falling leaves? Are they laughing and smiling, are they free? Do they even still remember him?
Probably not. Dream would have mentioned it if that was the case, right?
The minutes Dream spends inspecting the room after arriving in the morning are always nerve-wracking. Another part of discipline is keeping the room spotless, to the best of his abilities with the limited amount he had in there. A single spot of dirt, too much dust in the corners, and most commonly bloodstains not adequately cleaned would mean severe punishment, because it was a sign he wasn’t even trying. Which, of course, lead to more blood needing to be cleaned up.
He'd gotten caught up in a vicious cycle with that before, but by now he'd mostly managed to get a handle on it. There’s more than enough time in the the day to keep a room and an en-suite cleaned, even with Dream keeping him busy. Dream only visits for a few hours in the morning and at night, so if he manages his time correctly, Tommy can keep the room clean, keep his diary properly updated, and even have the time to chill and play on his Switch or something on the weekends. It’s fine. It has to be fine.
After all, Dream is Tommy's friend. He always has been. Yeah, he might be a dick sometimes, with the discs and stuff, but truthfully Tommy has always looked up to him and thought he was cool. And even as Dream had to get harsher and harsher with Tommy, he made it clear it wasn’t Tommy's fault, so it couldn’t be Dream's fault either, right?
After all, the whole reason Tommy was here was because L'Manberg needed to be made an example of, but Dream didn’t want to hurt anyone. So instead of just executing the members, he took a kinder path and let them join the SMP again with no further punishment, in exchange for one of their members being kept prisoner to ensure good behaviour. Tommy had immediately volunteered, of course, because it was his whole fault missing the shot that L'Manberg couldn't just go on.
Tommy thought maybe he could have convinced Dream to let L'Manburg come back from the ashes, maybe let him go and let everything be fine, but Dream must know better. After all, Tommy is the one who has to learn all this shit, while Dream knows everything. And he let Tommy do pretty much anything he wanted until people started acting up, so he really had no choice. Even if Tommy feels suffocated, hurt, this must be the better option. It has to be.
He flinches as he hears Dream's voice, calm but firm. “Tommy, what's with the feathers under the sink? Have you been pulling them out again?”
Tommy cringes, curling small, misshapen wings across his body as best he could in an imitation of a hug. “No, no, it’s fine, man, it’s just- I've started moulting and shit. Sorry.”
He flinches as Dream walks over, expecting a slap, but Dream just examines his wings, touch gentle but still itchy on the sensitive flesh. He hums, before looking up at Tommy, expression curious but not angry. “How long has it been happening? You won’t be in trouble, I promise.”
“Few days, I think.” Tommy tries not to look down at his wings, painfully aware of how the malformed bones and flesh underneath looked when not covered in a thick layer of inky feathers. He despises moulting season.
“Why didn’t you tell me? Did you think you’d be in trouble for something you can’t control?”
“I just- I didn’t want you to notice, because you can see all the lumps and shit on my wings, and they look all weird. I know I’m meant to look presentable, and-“
Dream quirks an eyebrow. “I don’t see an issue with your wings. They look fine to me.”
“No- they’re all fucked up and shit, they were all atrophied and then they got broken a few times and they look hideous, I'm sorry-“ Tommy feels his face turning redder the more he goes on.
“And? That’s not something you can control.” Dream sighs. “How long have you been worrying about this?”
Tommy doesn’t answer, shrinking in on himself further. There’s an awkward silence before Dream continues. “Tommy, you know you can tell me about this stuff, right? That’s why we have the diary.”
Tommy curls in on himself more. Stupid, stupid, stupid. He should have just written it down, so he could discuss it at the end of the day without any fear of punishment. “I'm sorry, I'm sorry, please, man, I'm sorry-“
“It’s fine, Tommy.” Dream grabs onto one of Tommy's hands, and gives it what Tommy is pretty sure was meant to be a comforting squeeze, but it just irritates the bruising he still has on some of his fingers from a mistake a few days ago. “It’s not your fault for getting anxious. I should have made it clearer, shouldn’t I?” He sighs. “Just- get some rest.”
“You're going?” Tommy's face falls. This was worse than a punishment. At least then he wasn’t alone. “I don’t want you to go.”
“I’ll be back by night, just… I think you need some sleep now. Some time to calm down. You’re not in trouble.” Dream gives a small smile that feels like a kick in the teeth.
“Please, please, I’ll calm down, it’s fine, it’s fine!” Tommy's voice is hysterical as Dream walks to the door. “I don’t wanna be alone, please, please. You’re the only person I have left, right? I'll be good.”
The silence is deafening.
The door slams shut.
