Tensei Oujo to Tensai Reijou no Mahou Kakumei 5
Tumblr media
Author: Piero Karasu
Illustrator: Yuri Kisaragi
Label: Fujimi Fantasia Bunko
Release Date: 20 August 2022
My Score: 3/5
English Release: Yen Press is releasing this series in English as The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady so please check it out if you are interested in the series.
Notes on names: with an anime announcement and English release come new romanised names so from here on out I’ll be changing how I spell some of the characters names. I apologise for any confusion caused.
This volume has a few different plots going on and it leads to it feeling a bit messy, especially as not all of the plots are interesting or well written. The first plot concerns Euphy’s younger brother. Her brother - I believe his name is Kynde? -  is struggling a bit with his sister’s new status as Queen. She’s no longer legally part of his family and he’s concerned about her wellbeing but he hasn’t been able to talk to her. Anis tries to fix this. I don’t remember Euphy’s younger brother ever being mentioned before which led to this plot feeling hollow. Clearly, if he hasn’t been important to the plot enough to show up before now, he’s not important to Euphy. He doesn’t even meet Euphy directly in this volume and he doesn’t show up after the first chapter and is only briefly mentioned. I think what the author was trying to do here was introduce a theme of siblinghood for the volume as that ties into the third plot but it wasn’t executed well.
Then we move into the second plot of Euphy’s and Anis’s “honeymoon”. Really, it’s a political trip to see other parts of the kingdom and help them with their problems but it led to a lot of flirting between Euphy and Anis and they were so cute and I was happy.
The third plot takes up the back half of the volume as Anis reunites with her younger brother Algard when they visit the location of his exile. It also features a new character by the name of Acryll. Acryll is a lycanth - she has wolf ears and a tail. Acryll was saved by Algard and is very fond of him, leading to her hatred of Anis. While I understand why the author wanted to bring Algard back into the story and it makes sense to reunite him and Anis, I never cared for Algard personally and I found myself really bored during this half of the book. There are these particular two chapters that are told by Acryll about how she met Algard and these took me out of the story. They weren’t interesting and it particularly annoyed me that they were narrated by Acryll when in the narrative, but Algard is the one who is meant to be relating this story to Euphy and Anis. Like, one of the chapters ends with Algard starting to explain the story, and then the next two chapters are told from Acryll’s POV without any warning or explanation. The chapter after those two even starts with Algard concluding the story as though he was the one relating it. It bothered me and it took me out of the story.
Another thing that frustrated me about this volume was how there’s a part early on where they’re establishing who’s going with them on their honeymoon. This party includes Illya and Lainie, among others, and reasons are given for why each of these characters are coming along. However, none of them ever become important to the plot. This is especially a shame with Lainie who has a history with Algard and whose existance as a vampire is close to Acryll’s existance as a lycanth but these two facts are barely brought up outside of a couple of lines. It’s such a waste!
Anyhow, I sadly didn’t enjoy this volume as much as I wanted to. I enjoyed the flirting between Euphy and Anis and I enjoyed seeing the character development that they have gone through since the start of the series but I was so bored by the second half. This plot could have worked but it didn’t for me.
That being said, I am really excited for the anime and I really hope I get to watch it. It looks so good so far!

D&D's influence is so great that upon asking to order the Kadokawa imprint Fujimi Fantasia Bunko's Dragon Magazine, still in publication, the Japanese bookstore sent back to me "Is that a Japanese magazine? We only carry Japanese magazines."

High School DxD: Ragnarok After School
By Ichiei Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero. Released in Japan by Fujimi Fantasia Bunko. Released in North America by Yen On. Translated by Haydn Trowell.
If you’ve read the previous volumes, you know what the plot of High School DxD is: breasts. Everything else is secondary. That said, it is a shonen battle manga, which means that the breasts are not even there to titillate the reader or make them horny. They’re there as a weapon in Issei’s arsenal. Indeed, every new book brings with it a new breast power-up, and so we may as well talk about Issei loving breasts the way that we talk about Izuku using All Might’s Smash moves in My Hero Academia. It’s also very telling that, in universe, Issei’s shtick is popular with little kids rather than women. The kids don’t really get the sex part, they just see him busting out cool moves. It also shows off Issei as someone who really should mature a bit more before he starts getting his harem… something he seems to know anyway, rejecting Akeno’s offer to sleep with him because she “looks sad”. If you’re going to do a harem, do it properly.
Our heroes have been busy lately, as a bunch of heroes/terrorists keep showing up to try to fight them. The motivation of the other side is rather baffling till they figure out that they’re trying to force Balance Breakers by repeated combat. Which is, well, a tad unethical. That will have to wait for future books, though, because Odin is in town, supposedly here to meet with the Japanese gods but more accurately to go on a pub crawl and look at large-breasted women. (Notably, his hot Valkyrie bodyguard, Rossweisse, is not good enough – indeed, he abandons her at the end of the book.) Not everyone wants Odin to talk with other gods, though, and Loki shows up prepared to stop things by force if necessary. And he’s brought Fenrir with him. As a result, well, the subtitle of the book is accurate.
We finally get Akeno’s backstory here, and is it a bit disappointing at how normal it is. Well, as normal as a backstory can get when your relatives murder your own mother in front of you, but it really boils down to “I hate daddy because he’s never home” to a much larger degree. That said, things get resolved a bit too quickly here, and it feels like the author, having shown us how Akeno acme to hate her father, now feels it’s not necessary anymore. As for the rest of the book, well, lotsa fights. Indeed, we even get enemies teaming up, as in order to stop Loki, Vali and company are brought in, with him agreeing to put off his fight with Issei in order to fight someone equally badass. I did like his scoffing at Issei’s idea of peace, and pointing out that would be a nightmare to people who live for battle. Not everyone wants a Happy Harem After.
This was not quite as good as previous books, feeling a bit like it was filling in time. It did introduce Rossweisse, but she doesn’t do much here aside from whine and moan, so I assume we’ll develop her in later books. Average DxD, which is to say below average in terms of normal light novels.

Tensei Oujo to Tensai Reijou no Mahou Kakumei 8
Tumblr media
Author: Piero Karasu
Illustrator: Yuri Kisaragi
Label: Fujimi Fantasia Bunko
Release Date: 20 February 2024
My Score: 4/5
English Release: Yen Press is releasing this series in English as The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady so please check it out if you are interested in the series.
While volume 7 focused on Anis, this volume focuses on Euphy as her body starts becoming more spirit-like, leading her to be unable to sleep or have an appetite. The change comes about as she hears a noble spouting off about how Anis beating the dragon was just a front when Euhpy actually beat the dragon. After all, the noble says, how could someone born without magic be capable of defeating a dragon? Euphie's angry, and Anis is even angrier when she finds out about this and what it's done to Euphie's body. There's always been a difference in the ideals held by Euphie and Anis, and the ones held by the noble families, and this finally comes to a head in this volume.
Well, this is the best volume this series has had in a while. I came into it with rock-bottom expectations, but it definitely surpassed them. It's still rough around the edges and there were plenty of scenes that made me bored by the end of them, but it was still much more interesting than a lot of the recent volumes have been. My favourite part of it was probably seeing Lumi again. I feel like it's been a long time since we've seen the Spirit Covenantor and she's a welcome presence as she helps Euphy with the changes in her body and with her relationship with Anis. It's good stuff. I like that this volume focuses on Euphie and I liked seeing cute Anis and Euphy moments, even as they have their drama. While it's not the best volume this series has ever had, it's renewed my interest in the series and made it much more likely that I'll pick up the next one.

Which Light Novel should get the Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood/second anime adaptaion treatment?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To clarify what I mean by by a second anime adaptaion, it means these would follow the events of the original Light Novel from beginning to end (or up to the current point) and retain the original character personalities and development.
For example, Shakugan no Shana's first and second seasons had slighty changed story bits [Margery appearing innthe Friagne Arc when she didn't originally and Season 2 adding an Anime Original character/Arc in Fumina Konoe] as well as having anime Original endings. Additionally, Shana and Yuji's personalities were slightly changed [In the original Novel, Shana was more calm and yet more pyshically aggressive when agitated while Yuji responds to Shana's abrasive behavior by being snarky and needling her in addition to having some more dark moments], so the original character personalities/development should be retained.
Another example would be The Familiar of Zero. The fourth season has an original ending while the characters of Louise and Saito got flanderized to high heaven (Louise being insanely violent than she would be and Saito being more perverted than he normally is) while also killing off a villain that is still alive in the Novel while one other villain is never seen again after season one.
Hope it clears things up.
