Remember when Rotom was just a one-time event Pokémon that you found hiding in an old television? And now it's just out and about everywhere, like on top of random cliff sides.

And it's MODEST nature too? Truly I have been blessed this day.

I can never decide which Rotom Form to use though.

Random Fact of the Day
Daily Pokémon that was randomly selected: Rotom!
Did you know that Rotom assumes this form when it takes over a refrigerator powered by a special motor? It battles by spewing cold air, and when it’s like this, this Pokémon likes to play pranks that are freezing cold. You may find it’s turned your bath you just filled to solid ice!

Pokemon Card of the Day #2707: Frost Rotom (Ultra Prism)
Tumblr media
Frost Rotom brought another role to the Rotom deck. This time the goal was to be a big hitter, but only against decks that piled Energy into play. That meant it was rather poor against a deck like Zoroark-GX but could hold its own against Malamar decks and a lot of the later Tag Teams. The Energy cost without Roto Motor, for whatever reason, was also slightly lower here. This made it a little more accessible outside of the gimmick, though a perfect landing spot had to be there to include a Pokemon like this.
90 HP, as usual, was nothing special, and Frost Rotom often would get one attack in before falling. The Metal Weakness didn’t mean much at this point due to the rarity of the type and the low HP. Being able to retreat for a single Energy was nice if there was any Energy to attach, but with Energy bring so precious in most decks you’d ever use this in you might want to run Switch or something similar anyway.
Roto Motor was the same as all the other Rotom cards in the set. Attack costs on Frost Rotom were ignored if 9 or more Pokemon Tools were in your discard pile. Nothing new here.
Frost Crush was an attack that really helped in some games. 10 damage was the weak base, but 20 was added for each Energy attached to all of the opponent’s Pokemon. Any deck that wanted to get a bunch of Energy into play would likely take a big hit from Frost Rotom, and if the main Pokemon had a Water Weakness it was even better. The trade-off was that you were doing almost nothing to the lower Energy decks like Zoroark or any control deck, so there was a lot of inconsistency here.
Frost Rotom was probably the scariest Rotom for some people to face due to the punishing of large amounts of Energy. While the Rotom deck was still a gimmick, there was a window of time in the SUM-On format where Reshiram & Charizard-GX was a big deal. That deck had a Water Weakness on its main attacker and liked to have loads of Energy in play, making Frost Rotom a decent answer to it. The cost of just 2 Energy meant that decks that had fallen behind could use this and Counter Energy to access the attack. While this was only in place for a few months and not every deck would really need it, Frost Rotom got into some lists for some insurance against one of the best decks at the time. This gave what was meant to be a gimmick a notable, though small, role in serious games.
