The Security of a Free State
This July 4th I am reminded that our democracy was not a gift bestowed on us with butterfly kisses by a benevolent monarch. Armed citizens wrested it from that tyrant. That thought focused me on the key words in the second item of our Bill of Rights: the security of a free state. Did the Founding Fathers envision our free state remaining secure because our revolution was the final war on tyranny and it was gone from the world for good? Or because future tyrants would wither in the face of us all sitting in a drum circle singing Kum Ba Yah? No. Our free state remains secure when there are no infringements on “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms.”
We are—still?—a democracy. We can infringe on our own rights—even the basic human right of self defense—if we so choose. But before we succumb to the siren song of safety we should ask ourselves this: Who wants us disarmed? And why? Once disarmed, we can only hope that our leaders remain benevolent—and join us in the drum circle. Our alternative is to remain vigilant. To quote Joseph Story, former associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States: “The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them.”
Our current leader may end his anti-gun tirades with the words “God save the Queen.” I prefer the words “Screw King George!” Happy 4th of July everyone.

Times have passed like the breeze
Breeze that blows through my heart
When I think about the transkei seas
Urban rendition left for me
A sea of trouble that I wade everyday
Deep in the city
12 Revolutions of moon
It’s a been year it’s been too long
Persevere urban child
In your struggle there lies hope
For the ones you left behind
Let their prayers carry you
Although afraid be resolute
They’re all looking up to you

Take your place in the sun
You’re the hope you’re the one
You can always come home
Home is where you belong
Where the city meets the night
I’ve heard so much
I’ve seen so much
I’ve seen people fight to stay alive
I think of you to hustle on
I think of you don’t belong
Here in the city
I came to make you proud
I came here to see the sunrise
Over dreams and skyscrapers
Take your place in the sun
You’re the hope you’re the one
You can always come home
Home is where you belong.

UN said: Gaza needs 70 years to be livable, at least 70% of the infrastructure is destroyed.. Gaza, the most beautiful city that I have ever seen in some before and after pictures that shows a little part of the destruction.

“You simply cannot fit more America into a single incident than a man dying a horrifying death in protest of war crimes while a first responder screams at cops to stop pointing their guns at him and go get fire extinguishers. If you were to pick a single moment in history to sum up the essence and expression of the US empire, that would be it.”

#OTD in Irish History | 11 August:
In the Liturgical Calendar it is the Feast Day of Saint Attracta (also called Araght, and Naomh Adhracht in Irish), the patron saint of the parish of Tourlestrane, Co Sligo. Her legend states that she fled from home and took her vows as a nun under St Patrick at Coolavin. She then moved to Lough Gara, where she founded a hostel for travellers at a place now called Killaraght in her honour. The…

We are witnessing the grotesque reality of the martyred Palestinians and thousands of their massacred children being written off as mere afterthoughts. The way western media outlets steadfastly refuse to call the Israeli aggression and onslaught for what it is, which is genocide and ethnic cleansing, is just another way of dehumanizing Palestinians.

This. I have not seen ANY videos/pictures/media showing destroyed buildings in israel like I have seen in Palestine. We have seen Palestine being totally leveled: bombed hospitals, houses, schools, everything. But you know what I have not seen? The same in israel. And do not even try to say "oh khamas controls israels media!!!". How? Because thats makes you sound like an antivaxxer flatearther 💀 so your opinion is automatically worthless and waste of space.
Like people make it sound like what happened on oct 7 was like The Rumbling yet I havent seen anything of that level. Yet you could think that it happened in Palestine because of all the evidence.

Bisan's recent post. I think it's important for you to read it. Tonight 03.12.23, journalists in gaza share their last messages. There are no words to describe the horrors unfolding in gaza right now.
Tumblr media
I no longer have any hope of survival like I had at the beginning of this genocide, and I am certain that I will die in the next few weeks or maybe days. I have been sick with severe viral infection for days and cannot move from the mattress!
I suffer from nightmares that are so closely resemble reality that I no longer differentiate between reality and dream.
I live in a world other than the one I claimed to be building! I am a community activist who lived on the fantasy that the world was free and just, and I sought to bring rights not only to my people, but to many men and women in third world countries!
I was shocked that I was not from the third world! Indeed, we are the most humane and moral! Yes, because the world approves, supports, and finances the genocide we are being subjected to, legislates it, and gives reasons for for 58 days! While we are a people who have been living on occupied land for 75 years and are still searching for our rights and communicating our voice to the world!
My message to the world: You are not innocent of what is happening to us, you as governments or peoples that support Israel’s annihilation of my people. We will not forgive you, we will not forgive you, humanity will not forgive you, we will not forget, even if we die, the history will never forget .
A Message to friends: Thank you and the supporters around the world. You have been compassionate and very strong. We ask you not to lose hope, even if the world seems completely unfair and your efforts have not yet resulted in a ceasefire.
