Stay Over in A Hotel Near Amsterdam Airport Next Time You Visit
ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport – a hotel near Amsterdam Airport. Image via ibis website
Whether you have a late arrival or an early departure, picking a hotel near the airport is ideal. After my exciting trip to Amsterdam recently, I decided to choose a hotel near Amsterdam airport prior to leaving the country. Since I had stayed at hotel ibis Amsterdam Centre, it seemed kind of obvious to pick another ibis property. My hotel of choice? ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport, of course. ibis is a brand from the Accor group of hotels and they always make budget look really good.
Taking the Shuttle Bus to My Hotel Near Amsterdam Airport
Waiting in front of Schiphol Airport
After exiting Schiphol Airport, I had to locate the shuttle stop for the shuttle to the hotel. I didn’t have to go far as there were many others also in search of this shuttle to take them to their hotel near Amsterdam airport.
TSG Tip: Look for the shuttle bus with Accor Hotels on the side as well as the bright red ibis red logo.
Waiting area for the shuttle to the hotel
Always worried I might be in the wrong spot, I verified with the signage at the shuttle stop that I, indeed, was in the right place.
TSG Tip: There are shuttle bus timetables posted right at the bus stop and the ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport shuttle is scheduled to arrive every 20 minutes. However, it can be late so don’t panic if it is. Learn to kind of roll with these things as I fully expect airport shuttles to never be on time. Rest assured, they do eventually show up.
Inside the shuttle bus
I climbed aboard the nearly full shuttle bus and sat in back. The ride was all of 10 minutes to my hotel near Amsterdam airport, the ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport.
The shuttle drops off guests at this airport hotel first before heading to the other nearby hotels. This includes ibis Budget and Dorint Airport-Hotel Amsterdam and then circles back to the airport.
Shuttle bus route
TSG Tip: According to the hotel, the shuttle bus arrives every 20 minutes at the airport and hotel. After it drops everyone off, it then starts the process in reverse by picking up hotel passengers to take to the airport. The shuttle operates from 5 am – 1 am daily.
Hotel Reception
Reception area while I waited in line
Upon arrival, guests can check in at the reception area opposite the front entrance from where you entered.
Another view of reception area
TSG Tip: Save time waiting in a queue and check into your room in advance online. You’ll get an email from ibis showing you how to do this a day or two before your arrival. With 644 rooms in this hotel and during busy times, the lines can form quickly. Checking in online will most definitely save you time and help you avoid long lines.
Sweet Wing
Sweet Wing
My Superior Room was located in the “Sweet Wing” of the hotel. You can’t pass through here without scanning your room key making this area extra safe and secure for a solo traveler.
Bunnies!
Then on cue, it’s as if the bunnies were told to appear outside. Well, maybe not, but c’mon — there are bunnies outside and lots of them. Who can resist bunnies?
Sweet Lounge inside Sweet Wing
Inside the Sweet Wing you’ll find the Sweet Lounge. Here you can enjoy a complimentary beverage and a few different places to sit and relax. Choose from the flavored water, tea, or coffee available all day, every day, for free.
Hallway in Sweet Wing
I took the elevator up to the fourth floor and went in search of my room. The hallways are tastefully decorated in a cool, funky modern decor.
My Room
My room #4425
A quick left off the elevator and I arrived at my Superior room in the Sweet Wing.
Room 4425
Inside a Superior room you’ll find all the necessities you’ll need for an overnight stay before a flight.
Inside room 4425
Each Superior room includes a large double Sweet bed by ibis, air-cooling system, free access to the Sweet Lounge, free premium WiFi, USB charging hub, and a flat screen TV.
Inside room 4425
The Sweet Bed is appropriately named because it’s super comfortable. Climb in and you’ll fall right to sleep on it in no time flat.
Desk area inside room 4425
There’s a desk area adjacent to a small wardrobe to the right and a bench on the left. Inside the wardrobe is also a small room safe, if needed.
View from room 4425
While the window may not offer the most spectacular views, it does open. This was helpful because on an unusually hot September day in the Netherlands, the air conditioning wasn’t working. It was on in the hallways and public spaces, but for some reason it wasn’t on in my room. So I had to open the window up and then I went down to reception to see what I could do. Thank goodness they offer great service because they immediately provided me with a fan. My stay was definitely better because it was so hot that night.
TSG Tip: Full disclosure: I had a restless night’s sleep during my stay because of the heat and a strange smell in my room. I told the staff at reception who were very apologetic although I’m still not sure what the cause of the smell in my room was.
Bathroom inside room 4425
The bathroom was compact, but had everything I could possibly need during my stay.
Final Thoughts on My Room
Overall, the room was more than ample in size for an overnight stay. While I was staying alone, it would’ve easily fit two people comfortably without having anyone tripping over their things or each other. I’ve stayed in both budget and luxury hotels where the rooms were way smaller. In the end, I was definitely pleased with the size, cleanliness, and overall look and feel of my room despite a few minor bumps along the way.
Public Spaces
Lobby
Whether you’re flying in and out of Schiphol airport for business or leisure and you’ve decided on a hotel near Amsterdam airport, you probably don’t want to spend all of your time in your room.
Seating in lobby
I was worried that there wouldn’t be anywhere to eat or anything to do at this hotel since it was an airport hotel, but I was wrong. You can always grab a seat in the lobby of ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport to work, chat, or look out the window and daydream.
Business Center
There’s even a business center near reception if you need to go online or print something off during your stay.
Bars
Perhaps before heading to dinner or your room you’re thinking you might like a drink. If that’s the case, then head over to the Grand Cafe where you can choose from a variety of cocktails like a Mojito or a Margarita and stretch out in one of the many seats available. As a frequent traveler, I like that there’s a dedicated bar area inside this hotel and not just a place to purchase alcohol in the lobby.
Toastie Bar
Menu board outside Toastie Bar
Looking for a quick meal instead of a sit down dinner? Stop in at the Toastie Bar on the second floor of the hotel. Choose from soup, toasties, pie of the day, or a beverage. The Toastie Bar is open daily from 12:00 until 17:00.
Take Away
Take Away area in lobby
I checked out the Restaurant L’Estaminet, but decided I only wanted to grab something and take it back to my room. The 24-hour Take Away area in the lobby near reception was absolutely perfect for what I needed.
TSG Tip: The restaurant did have one vegan option of Veggie Curry, but I wasn’t in the mood for it. That’s why I opted for something take away vs. sit down.
Take Away
From sandwiches to salads, fresh fruit, beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and snacks, you can find pretty much everything you could possibly need or want at Take Away.
My dinner was a simple one of a hummus and peppadew wrap with barbecue paprika Crack Jacks rice cakes. YUM! I didn’t have a lot of hopes for a prepared sandwich, but it was so good and vegan. I had to pull up Google Translate to search the ingredients before eating, but yes — it’s all vegan.
Breakfast Buffet
I guarantee there's absolutely no way you can leave ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport hungry after their breakfast buffet. Click To Tweet
Elevator decal showing the breakfast buffet
On your way to and from your room via the elevator, you’ll probably notice the elevator decal displaying the ibis breakfast buffet. When you book your room, consider paying a little extra for the buffet breakfast because it’s definitely worth the added expense.
Walking toward breakfast area
The morning of my departure I headed up to the ibis Kitchen Buffet for my buffet breakfast. All you have to do is give the staff member your room number, grab a tray, and choose your breakfast items. The full buffet is available from 6:30 am until 10 am.
Breakfast buffet
There’s a massive variety of food available from cold items like crackers and biscuits as well as croissants and other breads and fruit. Not enough? How about yogurt, colds meats, cheeses, and fruit juice, too?
Breakfast buffet
But if hot food is your idea of breakfast, then dig into the eggs, beans, sausages, and the like for a rich and hearty breakfast. I guarantee there’s absolutely no way you can leave ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport hungry after their breakfast buffet. Don’t forget to grab a coffee, cappuccino, or latte, too.
TSG Tip: The hotel’s restaurants are located near reception and are accessed via escalators. Check the board in reception for hours of operation before you head upstairs.
Shuttle Back to Airport
Sitting in front of hotel looking toward water
Since the shuttle back to the airport is supposed to circle around from the airport to the hotel every 20 minutes, I knew when to go outside. I saw one leave from the window in my room and I used that to time when to go downstairs. I checked out, grabbed my bags, and took a seat in front of the hotel looking toward the little water area out front.
ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport was the first stop from the airport on the shuttle bus. However, on the way back to the airport, this hotel is the last stop so there were zero seats available. I had to rearrange some luggage to get my bag in the corral and then I stood for the duration of the 10-minute ride back to the airport. Since I use public transportation at home, this wasn’t a big deal, but expect the shuttle bus to be full at busy times like in the morning.
Image via ibis website
Although I only stayed overnight, ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport hotel was a perfectly sized airport hotel option. It had more hotel options and amenities than I expected, which is great when you’re traveling either for business or leisure.
Final Thoughts
It would’ve been easy to just stay in Amsterdam and take the train to the airport in the morning. But I wanted to be near the airport before my flight to cut down on my travel time. That meant finding a convenient, affordable, and safe hotel near Amsterdam airport. ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport was definitely the right choice for me. I loved the many options for food and beverages, the large public spaces, and my room in the Sweet Wing that was accessible only to those with key cards. Having a safe and secure room is so important anywhere I travel to, including a hotel near Amsterdam airport. For an affordable option the next time you’re looking for a hotel near Amsterdam airport, consider ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport.

On my new SPONTANEOUS TRAVEL SCALE of 1-5, with 1 being super easy and spontaneous and 5 being you better plan far in advance, this is a 1. I think it would be fairly easy to get a last minute reservation at one of the many hotels in and around Schiphol Airport, including ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. That counts as a huge TSG thumbs up as far as spontaneous travel goes.
While I was generously provided accommodations from ibis Schiphol Amsterdam Airport, as always all opinions and photographs, unless otherwise noted, are my own.

LA Restaurants With Drive-Thrus And Curbside Pick-Up
A few months ago, drive-thrus were reserved for road trips and late nights after consuming too much of one thing or another. But these days, they’re a big part of safely eating out. So if you’re looking for a place to pick up food without having to leave your car, we’ve put together this guide to 16 non-fast food spots with curbside delivery, including a few places with genuine, real-life drive-thrus.
Featured In The Ultimate LA Delivery & Takeout Guide Check out all our guides THE SPOTS  Jakob Layman Broad Street Oyster Co. $ $ $ $ American ,  Seafood  in  Malibu $$$$ 23359 Pacific Coast Hwy 8.6 /10
Since converting their dining room to an actual drive-thru, Broad Street Oyster in Malibu is now a place where you can actually hear the phrase, “Please pull through to the second window.” But more importantly, it’s also a place where you can get some truly excellent local seafood, like Morro Bay oysters and Santa Barbara uni. The Beach Burger and hot lobster roll are two of our other favorites, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Order in-person at their window in the back of Malibu Village, or call ahead (weekdays only) for pick-up - (424) 644-0131.
The Brothers Sushi $$$$ 21418 Ventura Blvd
This Woodland Hills sushi spot is offering curbside pick-up of their excellent sushi sets. They’ve got super-high-end options like “The Omakase” set, which feeds two for $250 and involves sashimi, sushi, king crab, and wagyu and sea bass lettuce wraps, but also some more affordable options. That includes a $30 DIY hand roll set with bluefin, yellowtail, salmon, and spicy tuna, along with rice, nori, and radish sprouts. Order online, then call when you park and they’ll bring it out.
 Holly Liss C & O Cucina $$$$ 3016 Washington Blvd
A classic Venice Italian-American spot, C&O Cucina has all the carbohydrate-based comfort food you need at a time like this. This includes linguini with clams, calamari fritti, chicken parm sandwiches, and, of course, their totally addictive garlic knots. Order online, and add Curbside Pick-Up to your cart with your car make and model in the notes.
 Jakob Layman Cafe Birdie $ $ $ $ American ,  Italian  in  Highland Park $$$$ 5631 N Figueroa St 8.3 /10
This recently reopened neighborhood spot is an excellent choice if you’re looking for something slightly fancy that won’t cost an entire week’s grocery budget. We love the pastas (especially the ragu with house fennel sausage), but you can’t go wrong with the Birdie Burger or the Morrocan-spiced fried chicken with harissa aioli. Don’t forget a cocktail, either - we like the Adventures In Paradise, a rum-based drink that’s ideal for summer. Order online, and select Curbside Pick-Up when you check out.
 Phillip Guerette Casa Vega $ $ $ $ Mexican  in  Sherman Oaks $$$$ 13301 Ventura Blvd 7.6 /10
This classic Sherman Oaks Mexican spot has converted their parking lot into a drive-thru. And whether you’re getting the house enchiladas combo, the three taco special, or a behemoth carne asada burrito, your order must also include one of their margaritas. They come in a few different size options, but we recommend going for the half-gallon, which is $30 and approximately eight servings. Order online or call (818) 788-4868 for curbside pick-up.
Chuy's $$$$ 1397 E Los Angeles Ave #A
Chuy’s is a super-affordable drive-thru Mexican spot in Van Nuys. They’re best-known for their tacos dorados with carne deshebrada (shredded beef), loaded with cheese, in a fried hard taco shell. Their burritos are also good, if you want something more substantial - get the carne molida with chorizo and beans. Drive-thru only.
Clark Street Bread Clark Street - Echo Park $ $ $ $ Cafe/Bakery  in  Echo Park $$$$ 311 Glendale Blvd Not

Baking sourdough and reappropriating mushy bananas into bread is great for some, but if you’re a little less, ahem, skilled in the kitchen, leave the baking to the professionals. Which in this case, means Clark Street Bread. This wonderful little shop has everything - flaky kouign-amann pastries, hearty meals like the Nordic breakfast, as well as some of the best merch in town, and you don’t even have to leave your car to get any of it. Order online, then just pull up to their curb on Glendale Blvd. and call (213) 529-4252.
 Jakob Layman Hail Mary Pizza $ $ $ $ Pizza ,  Sandwiches  in  Atwater Village $$$$ 3219 Glendale Blvd 8.1 /10
Hail Mary makes inventive, excellent sourdough pizzas in their small Atwater Village kitchen. Your options here include the Maddison (kale, chard, mornay sauce, and raclette), the Abbot (porchetta, Calabrian chilis, and olives), and a great $10 margherita that’s loaded with basil and mozzarella. Every pizza has a bit of funk from the sourdough crust, which complements the toppings perfectly. Order online - they’ll text you when it’s ready, and bring it out to the curb once you’re there.
 Jakob Layman King's Burgers/Got Sushi? $ $ $ $ Burgers ,  Sushi  in  Northridge $$$$ 9345 Reseda Blvd 8.4 /10
This two-for-one spot in Northridge has always been at the forefront of innovation (killer sushi and burgers fit for a king, all on the same menu?), so of course they’ve also perfected the art of the curbside service. When placing your order online, just leave your license plate number in the “Special Instructions” box, then give them a ring - (818) 885-6456 - when you’re parked outside. Picking up salmon belly nigiri, hand rolls, and pastrami burgers has never been so easy. Seriously, give these people a MacArthur Grant or something already.
 Holly Liss Langer's $ $ $ $ Diner ,  Deli  in  Westlake $$$$ 704 S. Alvarado St. 9.2 /10
Living through “unprecedented times” isn’t easy, especially when that means you just spilled ice cream all over your bed for the first time (maybe you shouldn’t have white sheets?) Right that wrong with something familiar, like The #19 from Langer’s, a.k.a. the best pastrami sandwich in the world. Stuffed with perfectly cut pastrami, Swiss cheese, and homemade coleslaw, then served between two slices of their famous double-baked rye bread, this is exactly what you want whenever you need a reminder that times weren’t always this tough. Call Langer’s at (213) 483-8050 to place a curbside pick-up order.
 Holly Liss Loqui $ $ $ $ Tacos ,  Mexican  in  Culver City $$$$ 8850 Washington Blvd. 8.1 /10
This awesome (and affordable) Culver City taco spot is doing pick-up via the Platform Drive-Through, which is great for when your wallet is telling you to cook, but your brain can’t handle the idea of doing more dishes. Get one of the plates - either chicken or mushrooms - which are around $11 and come with tortillas, pickled onions, rice, beans, and tremendous guacamole. Go ahead and get a 12-pack of their fantastic flour tortillas, too. Order online, and follow the signs for the drive-thru once you’re there.
 Jakob Layman Neptune's Net $ $ $ $ Seafood  in  Malibu $$$$ 42505 Pacific Coast Hwy 7.7 /10
Holy sh*t, Neptune’s Net has a drive-thru. Is this how Isaac Newton felt when he invented calculus? No, this has got to be better, because you can actually eat it. The iconic roadside diner has converted their parking lot into a full-blown drive-thru, where you enter from PCH and leave via the little side street adjacent to it. Is it quick? No. Does it feel a little freaky to eat raw oysters in your Toyota Corolla? Absolutely. But tell us that pulling out onto an empty highway, and eating clam chowder from a bread bowl while watching the waves crash over the horizon isn’t one of the best things to happen since… oh, we don’t know. That apple fell in front of Newton? You can’t.
Rice Box Rice Box $$$$ 541 S Spring St #131
Thank god Rice Box has curbside pick-up, because even during quarantine, Downtown LA is still filled to the brim with bikers with death wishes and far too many one-way streets. And we’re not saying that we wouldn’t order from here even if we did have to find parking - their boxes of affordable Cantonese dishes like honey-roasted char siu and wild mushroom bao are worth the trip alone - but let’s just say, much like having your debit card memorized, curbside service makes life a whole lot easier. Email [email protected] or call (213) 988-7395 to place an order, then give them a call when you’re outside.
 Jakob Layman Roberta’s $ $ $ $ Pizza ,  Italian  in  Culver City $$$$ 8850 Washington Blvd 7.6 /10
Brooklyn transplant Roberta’s is serving their excellent Neapolitan-style pies curbside via the Platform Drive-Through. They’ve got a bunch of our favorites, including the Bee Sting (spicy honey and salami) and the Famous Original (tomato, chili, three kinds of cheese), along with a new pie called the King Kong, involving Thai basil, lemon juice, Calabrian chilis, and toasted fennel seed. Order online, and follow the signs for the drive-thru once you’re there.
 Shin-Sen-Gumi Shin-Sen-Gumi 2Go Sansei Mall $$$$ 18203 S Western Ave #104
The words “Drive-Thru Ramen Window” might seem like they were ripped from Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, but guess what? That movie was set in 2019, and this Torrance-based to-go operation is here to stay. All you need to do is download the Shin-Sen-Gumi 2GO App, head to their Gardena storefront, and then pull up to the window for bowls of rich Satsuma ramen, beef curry udon, and pork cutlets over rice. Enhance that, Deckard.
 Jakob Layman Spoon By H $ $ $ $ Korean ,  Dessert  in  Beverly Grove ,  Hancock Park $$$$ 7158 Beverly Blvd 8.7 /10
This casual Korean dessert spot just so happens to also makes some of our favorite dishes in the city - think rich and creamy pork belly dumpling soups and kimchi cold noodles - but what’s been in everyone’s to-go order lately, and what frankly, should be in yours, is their dosirak, or Korean packed lunch. Featuring 24 different items, from meatballs to kimchi to ground pork with rice cakes, this reads more like a roster of the heaviest hitters in Korean cuisine, and less like whatever horrors you used to find in your brown paper bag at lunchtime (one time it was just a single, sweaty slice of American cheese). Pre-order your meal on Tock, then when you arrive, pop your trunk, call (323) 930-0789, and one of the employees will drop it off for you.
