You perplex him. How someone would move through the world as you do while riddled with so much worry. Most he’d seen with a condition as sever as yours confined them to their bones. Unable to leave their homes or speak with a clear vision, but somehow here you were.  

Sometimes it gets so bad that he watches your chest to make sure you’re taking the breathes you’re supposed to. If not he’ll gently remind you with a tap on your spine.

Other time’s he’ll watch the hives that pull up tiny islands on your skin while in a conversation and he’ll find an excuse to get you away, though you always assure him that you can take care of yourself. 

He knows you can. There was never a doubt in his mind that you could take care of yourself. You have for so long without him, but espessially because of that he feels the want to be there when you need it. 

On nights like tonight when your body has fallen victim to the creativity of your mind and you can’t seem to settle he waits. He’ll take some time to sit at his desk and pretend to work. It always starts out this way, but somehow he actually falls into a task and that’s the time you’ve also been waiting for. 

You wait for his eyes to lose themselves in his work to slowly pull yourself from the book you haven’t been able to focus on. 

You crawl under his desk, cross your arms over his lap and lay your head down. He doesn’t say anything. If he did you would leave. Instead he switches his letter to his non dominate hand and begins massaging your scalp. 

He’s careful not to tug on your hair, sometimes switching to tracing the tips of his nails across your temples and down your nose. whatever catches his minds rhythm. 

If either of you remember the first time you’d done this neither of you mention it. A few times you’ve fallen asleep like this and he’s taken you to bed. He’s been so careful never to deny you this, even on nights he himself is stressed. Somehow feeling the tension melt from your arms down his legs strains some of his away as well. 

Tonight he can feel the slight shake in your muscles as you settle onto his lap and he struggles not to look down at you. He knows there are likely tears in your eyes from a monster of your minds design. Tonight he decides to take out the method of emergencies. 

He smooths his palm down your jaw, dusting a thumb down your eyes waterline. He claws your hair over your shoulder, sneaking his fingers under the collar of your shirt. the pads of his fingers knead the nape of your neck tossing between gentle and slightly forceful. 

He controls his breathing to the right breaths you should be taking until the rise of your chest matches his. 

He feels your body fight against itself to relax, your firsts tightening until your knuckles turn white, but he knows he’ll will win. Never has he not. 

Sometimes after you’ve fallen asleep he’ll stay like this a bit longer. just to look at your fluttering lashes and unclenched eyebrows. If he’s lucky he’ll leave a kiss on your brow, but he hasn’t been brave enough to try again since you nearly caught him the last time he tried. 

He will never tell you how much you amaze him. He had nightmares of his own that you helped battle, just by moving through the world with the patience you did. You looked to each other for the strength to keep going and maybe one day you would actually tell each other that, but for now, this was enough.

A/n: Yes, I just got done having this particular panic attack, and yes, my husband did do this for me. I put all the people I did because I could see them all doing some variation of this and I didn’t want to confine it to anyone.
