How to pick the best handle hockey equipment?
With regards to battleground hockey, the stuff you use is significant. To play the game right - and securely - you want to have a ton of equipment. If you anticipate going to a field hockey day camp or simply need to begin battleground hockey as a general rule, you want to ensure you have the entirety of the stuff.
The Basic Field Hockey Gear
Quite possibly the clearest thing, you should play field hockey is a stick. You need to ensure you get a field hockey stick, which has different sides, rather than a stick for some other game.
Nonetheless, there is significantly more you want on your rundown than simply a stick. You need the entirety of the accompanying.
• Spikes
• Shin protectors
• Mouth monitor
• Gloves
Hockey equipment for goalkeeper
Head protector with a full enclosure - this implies that a standard cap isn't sufficient; you need full face security.
• Throat defender - these lashes around your neck to ensure you don't get injured by a ball hitting you in the throat.
• Blockers - this goes with your gloves and assists you with impeding the ball from going in the objective.
• Kickers - these are worn over your shoes and safeguard you when you are kicking the ball back out onto the field.
• Arm defenders - to safeguard your arms.
• Body gear, goalie support, goalie hotpants - defensive stuff that will cover your body.
Field hockey can be played on either regular grass, turf, or an indoor surface. It is ideal to pick your shoes given which surface you will play generally on. For both grass and turf, a cleated shoe (non-metal) is careful. The spikes on a turf shoe, in any case, are more limited and give more grasp than the more drawn-out spikes of a grass shoe, which assist with holding on to a wet or sloppy grass pitch.
You would rather not go to the primary store you see that has field hockey gear and get everything on your rundown. Make sure to search around and get the stuff that is ideal for you.

Can i Kick it?
The kicking experience
To just say the truth, I was a fantastic high school athlete,  and a solid d3 college athlete,  and an athlete who always knew that was about as far as I was gonna get.  I played soccer hockey and baseball, and up until 16 I played internationally on one of the best club soccer teams in the US,  FC Westchester.   However, this story has nothing to do with any of those sports, this is the story about how I tried to be an NFL kicker.
4 years of D3 college soccer, and just like in hs, there was a gentle rivalry between the football and soccer teams.  We had brutal August pre-season workouts next to each other in the 100 degree heat.  We shared lockers rooms next to each other.  It was a small school, you just knew everyone by face after a while.
The football coach looked like a throwback to the days of dick butkis with a flattop haircut, standard coach attire of sweats, a pullover, and a whistle at all tines.  He had a booming deep voice, his players loved him, and even though I wasn't even on the team,  I did too.
My senior year soccer season ended with a sub 500 sputter, which was expected.   The most fun we had was an ice cold case of American light in the shower after home games…i seriously doubt that flys these days.  However, one thing that I had that wasn't d3 caliber was a uniquely powerful kick.  My legs were chiseled from 12 straight years of running, skating, and hiding from cops in assorted bushes throughout the tri-state area.  I always wanted to kick field goals, as it seemed logical.
How hard could it be?
On a Thursday morning a day after our season ended I went to the field house to try to talk the football coach into letting me walk on the team for the last 2 games.  They were pretty bad that year,  maybe 2 and 5, and while coach loved my interest he ending my pitch with a "I just don't think bringing you in at this point makes sense".
Ok
Disappointed but undeterred,  I asked for a bag of balls so I could "practice" for this new budding career that was barely a pimple on fat bastards ass.  He agreed, "good luck".
I took the six balls he gave me made my way out to the game field.  I lined up 2 on the 40yd line, 2 on the 45, and 2 on the 50.  Then I waited..  I knew the team and the coaches would walk out past this field on the way to practice, and I was going to put on a little show.
They filed out, my heart started pumping, and I smartly took aim at the far goalposts which gave me a nice little breeze at the back..  just a little, but a helpful little breeze..
I hit both from the 40 with room to spare….some players stopped.
I hit both from the 45…the coaches then stopped.
I hit both from the 50…6 for 6.  Ok, your turn coach.
I pretended to tie my shoe or some stalling bullshit like that as the coaches huddled together talking.  2 minutes later I hear coach bellow out.."Boyle!….come see me tomorrow ".  Fk yeah I will, but i had no idea what the hell I was getting into.
I had an amazing fraternity of friends, friends that im still in daily contact with to this day, and no one gets away with anything in this group.  Its hazing from love, always there for you to help and call bullshit.  So I showed up at the house and proclaimed that I think I just made the football team.  It was quiet for a second, then laughs and the usual hazing ensued,  completely justified for such a comment.   We will see tomm i told them…
The next day I head to the field house an hour before their regular practice and coach tells me what I wanted to hear…OK kid you are on the team, but don't make a spectacle of this.  You have the best leg I've seen in d3 and I can't not give you a chance if this is what you want to do.  Did I mention I loved this guy?
Now I needed gear.
Gear…besides my shin guards I haven't worn anything since my last hockey game.  The equipment manager Charlie was also my buddy, and I went to go get fitted for pads and a helmet.  I've known this guy forever, and he was the best out there. Loved the kids, loved his bottle of jack Daniel's he kept somewhere in the laundry room, and a true fan of football.   He was not buying it until an assistant coach walked by and confirmed.   Then it was game on.
"Your a kicker you don't need any real pads so we'll just put foam in there"  famous last words…. Thanks Charlie.
That first practice was amazing, since it was the Friday b4 the game it was really just a walkthru and ended with field goal team, where I made 5 in a row.  The guys were honestly so welcoming, it was a little shocking.  The school was small, and I was a 2 year captain in soccer who also had a entry pass to the fball frat for parties so I was known, but I wasn't really friends with these guys.  I felt welcome, and confident this was going to be great.  I don't know if "great " is the word I would use today, but it was incredible.
Gameday….GameDay…. gonna play GameDay football for the first time in my life.  Hit the field house and after getting my game jersey I begin walking to the locker room so someone could help me get dressed, bc I have no idea what order to put this shit on.
While walking down a skinny 80ft hallway, I see a familiar face walking toward me.  Mike went to hs with me (only 100 kids in my class) and we were co athletes of the year.  He played qb, hoops, and we both pitched together in baseball.  We were friends, but not close, probably due to his tendency for arrogance and his father convincing my hs baseball coach to start him over me in a game that likely cost us a state championship.   To this day, it is a sore subject for basically everyone who knows the story.  But no matter how you look at it, this was a massively random encounter…
I was shocked as he was, then he said "what the hell you doing here?"
im playing you today
What?
Yes I'm the new kicker
When that happen
Yesterday
Oh man…I'm the starting qb today
Well I guess I'll see you out there.
And that was it.  I'm not sure he believed me.
So on my 2nd day on a football team I went to the coaches room and told them I have a scouting report on the opposing quarterback.   Oh the look on their faces.
"Great arm, tough guy, can't run for shit" .  Mike would have agreed.
Just the odds of only the two of us, alone in the hallway in a building filled with 2 entire football teams, still to this day amazes me.  It was a sign.
We hit the field, my parents in the stands, and they are scared shitless and thrilled at the same time.  My dad was beyond himself, and likely smoked 2 packs of cigarettes that afternoon.  Which I could understand.   He clearly knew how absurd this was.
My fraternity friends also came out in force, as this was to good to miss.   For them to get up before noon on a Sat was an accomplishment.   They were ready for the show, and brought drinks, anticipating a plane crash or something similar.
Kickoff…looking back it would have been nice if anyone had told me anything at all besides "just kick it far" b4 I got out there.  How hard could it be.
We are now lined up…that awesome line of helmeted power ready to charge into battle.  The whistle blows and I drill one to about the 5 and then like any soccer player standing in the middle of 21 other football players would do, I watch.
I watch this Devin Hester looking guy run and dodge the 1st wave and then break free to my left .  No one else is going to touch him.   Oh fuck fuck fuck.  Run dammit…
So now I guess I'm either going to make a tackle or my football career is going to start with a 95 yard td return.  I was fast, and I ran him down and tackled him out bounds right in front of our bench, and our coach.  I get up…in shock…and coach just says "nice hit boyle".  Nice hit…I'm not supposed to hit…all my pads are fake and I literally had never done that to anyone except my brother in the backyard.  Either way, tragedy averted…temporarily.
After successfully drilling an extra point that almost landed across the street 50 yards away, we got to the 4th quarter down by 9 with 4 minutes left.  A great play puts us on the 8 yard line, 1st down.  Coach then calls for field goal, on 1st down, to the shock and confusion of everyone.  The team is disorganized,  we rush out, I line up and here comes the snap.  It's not great,  the hold wobbles, and my soccer instinct kicks in and I drill it.  I drill it right into the ass of my center.   Needless to say he was surprised.   I really crushed that one.
As the ball bounced around I again stood there, until some guy on the other team decides he wants to stick me.  He does, can he do that?  Apparently so.  So i have now been hit twice in 3 plays.
We lose,  my friends are hysterically enjoying themselves(could not blame them), but my folks were still beaming after the game.  It was a cool feeling, pictures taken with the disposable camera, as this was the most advanced tech my father was allowed to operate.  I still have them.
That night as I took down many beers with my new football fraternity,  I thought this might have a chance.  You know, if I had maybe a little more practice and if someone maybe told me a little more information about wtf im supposed to do.
I played one more game, we lost that too, but it didn't matter.  The thrill on the field was worth it, as was my kickoff that stopped 1 foot from the end zone pylon, the perfect kickoff.
I got a letter(my 9th), and a numbered blanket, at the end of season celebration.  Overall I was actually pretty emotional that day.  The teammates and coaches made it for me, and I thank them to this day for enabling that experience to happen and be worth writing about.
A year later I had a tryout with scouts from both the jets and the bucs, who said I had a nfl leg but needed to play "more than 2 d3 games" b4 anyone would touch me.  I had to agree with them.
"Have you thought about playing in canada?"
"Uh no sir I haven't "
With the roster change to 53 from 57 players on the roster, the "kickoff specialist" was eliminated.  It was then that I thought Manitoba for 20k a year wasn't what I was looking for….and i put the balls away.
I still have that blanket tho….got my number on it.

Touchdown Celebrations
in honor of it being super bowl sunday today, i decided to post this fic a little earlier than planned! all fluff like usual & i hope you enjoy!
word count: 1.3k+
~~~~~
Tumblr media
"Shawn! Channel 5!" You call from your position in the kitchen as you pour a bag of chips into a bowl and grab a Corona from the fridge.
"I know, babe! I've got it!" Shawn yelled back, his adorable chuckle following his words and you can't help but smile at the sweet sound. "You and your football." Your boyfriend mumbled as you enter the living room and see him flipping through the channels on the TV before finding the correct one.
"You're just lucky I already love hockey as much as you do. Now, it's your turn to love football like I always have." You laugh before crossing the room, leaning up on your tiptoes and placing a warm kiss to Shawn's rosy cheek. A beautiful smile spread on his lips at your touch and a surge of happiness rushed through your body.
"Better get started then, my love. I'm not that easy to convince." Shawn said teasingly, a boyish smile on his face and the familiar twinkle in his mesmerizing caramel colored eyes.
Shaking your head, you place the bowl of chips and his beer on the coffee table and settle in on the couch just as the game begins. Not hesitating a second, Shawn wraps his strong arms around you and pulls you closer to him. Cuddling into his chest, your heart soars with love as you look up at him and Shawn presses a tender kiss full of happiness to your lips.
A whistle blew on TV and you quickly pulled away from the kiss, excitement rushing through your veins.
"Here we go!" You cheer enthusiastically, patting Shawn's firm chest as he laughs softly.
Shawn's hand begins running through your hair soothingly and his eyes focus on the game. Almost instantly, he's confused and you can tell.
His eyebrows furrow together and he bites his lip in deep concentration as he tries to follow the ball on the field and decipher the calls made by refs. He runs his free hand through his messy but irresistible curls like he was slightly nervous and you couldn't help but giggle a little at the sight.
There wasn't a minute where you weren't falling more and more in love with him and sitting here, watching him try to understand football without your help was no exception.
Suddenly, your attention was snapped away from Shawn as the whistle was blown loudly and the crowd erupted into loud screams.
"Ahh! Go, go, go! You're right there!" You yelled loudly, pointing at the screen as the teams played just inches in front of the goal line, a touchdown right on the horizon.
The announcement for the first down flashed across the TV and Shawn finally spoke up with confusion.
"Okay, so the Chiefs are close to scoring right?" Shawn asked, eyes glancing between the intense game and your bright smile. You nodded encouragingly, resting one of your hands on his stomach as you met his loving gaze.
"Mhm. If they make it into the endzone, that's a touchdown. How many points is that?" You quiz him playfully and a look of recognition washes over his facial features.
"Six! And if the kicker guy makes it through those poles, they get an extra point right?" Shawn clarifies, pure excitement dancing in his eyes as a huge smile blossoms on his lips.
"That's it! See bub, you're getting it already." You giggle, kissing his cheek softly before snuggling back in and watching the game.
Shawn was quickly introduced to your love of football in the beginning of your relationship and since then, you've been trying to get him into it. Over the last three years, he's watched countless games with you but never fully grasping the concept of the sport or actively cheering because he simply was confused by all the rules.
But today, Shawn knew it was one of the biggest games of the entire football season and asked you watch it with him instead of the other way around. Immediately, you agreed because you could never turn down an opportunity to watch a football game with an over abundance of cuddles with the love of your life.
"Oh wait! No! That's not good," Shawn suddenly yelled, pointing at the screen in disbelief. The Chiefs had just crossed into the endzone but the touchdown was flagged due to interference from the opposing team. "Isn't that like some kind of call for holding?" He questioned, turning to look at you for an answer.
"You've been reading up huh, love?" You tease playfully and Shawn blushes deeply. "But yeah, that should be a call on the 49ers for their defender holding one of our wide receivers when the play began." You explain with a proud smile and rest your head against Shawn's shoulder, attention on the screen. "The refs have to review it and then we'll get the final decision."
"Okay," Shawn mumbled, holding your hand and leaning forward slightly to focus on the referees who were discussing the call. You giggle at the sight of your boyfriend intensely getting into a game he didn't understand a week ago.
After what seemed like forever, the refs stepped forward on the field, ready to announce the decision.
"After reviewing the call, it has been decided that the touchdown will be overturned. Chiefs, second and goal." The ref announced and Shawn immediately leaped off the couch.
"Baby, no way! They can't just- that was over the line! Are you kidding me? That was the dumbest call I've ever seen." Shawn threw his arms towards the TV, gesturing at his current frustration and you couldn't help the giggles slipping past your lips. "Why are you laughing at me?" He asked curiously, quickly running his hands through his already messy chocolate curls.
"Nothing," You choke out between laughs and Shawn rolls his eyes.
"Yeah right. Why are you laughing? How are you not mad about this? Sweetheart, they just screwed over the team you’re rooting for in the Super Bowl. The biggest game of the year! This is not something to laugh about." Shawn exclaimed, making big gestures before cupping your cheeks in his large hands.
"I know, bub. But you're getting so into it that it's hard not to laugh. You're absolutely adorable." You say softly, nudging your nose against his before pressing a sweet kiss to his lips.
Shawn smiled boyishly into the kiss before pulling away and peppering little pecks all over your face, making you laugh endlessly.
"Shawn! You're gonna miss the play!" You say while trying to fill your lungs with air and place your hands against his chest to push him away.
Nothing but pure joy was evident on his facial features as his eyes focused on the game again, intertwining his fingers with yours as Shawn stood by your side in the middle of the living room.
Tightening his grip on your hand as the ball was snapped, Shawn bit his bottom lip as the play unraveled. The quarterback threw the football to a wide receiver who jumped up to catch it with just one hand before landing in the endzone.
The crowd on TV went wild and so did Shawn.
"Touchdown!" Shawn screamed enthusiastically, throwing his arms in the air to replicate the goal posts.
"Baby, they did it! The game's tied now! Ha, take that refs. You choose the wrong team to mess with and your bad calls won't stop us!" Shawn yelled excitedly, glancing at you while jumping up and down like a little kid, his hand in yours again. Not giving you a moment to say anything, he quickly wrapped his strong arms around your body and spun you around.
His sweet chuckle mixed with your content giggle and your heart was so full of love in the moment, you could've sworn it was going to burst.
When your feet touched the floor again, Shawn's bright smile was practically lighting up the room as he leaned forward to place a warm kiss to your forehead.
"You don't like football, huh?" You tease him, running your hands through his chocolate curls and feeling your heart flutter. Shawn rolled his gorgeous hazel eyes but chuckled.
"Alrighttt, you caught me, darling. I like it just a little bit. But only because of the touchdown celebrations I get to have with you." Shawn said playfully, his hands settling on your hips before pulling you in closer to him.
As you play with the curls at the nape of his neck while admiring your boyfriend, you start to speak but Shawn cuts you off before a word falls off your lips.
"Just shut up and watch the game with me." Shawn teased, adoration sparkling in his beautiful eyes as he tugged you down on the couch, wrapping his arms around you for cuddles while commenting on the football game once again.
Klaine Advent 2018
Day 1: Athlete
AO3
He was used to being on the bench. Kurt Hummel wasn’t needed unless coach called him over for a field goal. There were games where Kurt followed along but Coach Tanaka wasn’t the most creative strategizer. It was always the same plays, which is probably why the team didn’t win often. McKinley’s Titans were the most predictable team in all of Ohio. Today’s game was uneventful so far. Kurt was trying to pay attention since his dad happened to be in the stands today. After the game, Kurt knew his dad would want to talk about what went wrong. There were only so many topics his dad was passionate about—Kurt’s football team happened to be one of them. The problem was nothing interesting is happening and they were well into the third quarter.
When Mike or Puck are benched Kurt at least has someone to talk to about the game. They can complain together. Today all the male glee members/ football players are on the field except him. He’s riding the bench with the freshman who don’t get to play often either.
To pass the time, Kurt starts scanning the stands. The visitor bleachers are relatively empty. He recognizes a group of McKinley hockey players, who take their rivalry with the footballers way too seriously, sitting at the top. Closer to the front are some parents and family of the visiting team. There are fellow classmates too, who made the drive to Lima to watch the game. Kurt assumed they are all aware of how awful this year has been for this football team. The only game they won was the first game Kurt played in.
Unfortunately, the kicker can’t always save the game. Especially not when the score is slightly over thirty points different.
The visitor team calls for a timeout, which seems ridiculous to Kurt since they are so clearly going to win this game. All of the Mckinley players come off the field briefly to rehydrate and watch the huddle taking place across the field. His fellow teammates were grumbling about their opponents but Kurt was focused on the boy walking down the bleachers towards the field.
From here, he was hard to see but there was no way to miss those red pants. Kurt was about to stand up and go after the boy but Coach was eyeing him so he stayed put. The rest of the game goes exactly as Kurt pictured: he stays on the bench, the Titans move a few yard lines, the other team continues to score, and Mckinley ultimately loses. Sure, the team is disappointed but Kurt is more occupied with finding red pants.
Typically, Kurt waits until the rest of the football team is showered and dressed before going to the locker room so it’s not surprising for his dad to meet him at the field after a game. Burt Hummel is very familiar with the field. He stops to clap Coach on the shoulder and murmured some encouraging words before sitting beside his son on the bench.
“Shame, you didn’t get to shine today.”
“It’s not a big deal, dad,” Kurt assures him. “I’m going to head to the showers.”
Kurt actually heads to the building but is constantly looking for the boy in red pants. The crowd isn’t thick but it’s still a lot of people to sort through. Luckily, Kurt finds him.
He doesn’t mind to just blurt something out but it happens. “Hey,”
“Hi,” The boy says. “It sucks that the first game I come to, you didn’t get to play in.”
Kurt just smiles. “You sat on the wrong side, you know?”
“We were once on opposing teams, remember?”
“Blaine, we were never on opposing teams.”
“Fine, competing show choirs.”
Kurt just waits for his boyfriend to continue.
“Okay, I was a little late and didn’t want to look like a fool looking for your dad.”
“You’re adorable,” Kurt tells him.
Blaine smiles and pecks his cheek. “Go shower, I’ll meet you in the parking lot.”
Life and Times of Craig Pinto’s Football Journey
    The rays of sun rip through the blinds darting straight into his green eyes where there is a serene sense of calm and easiness. He takes a deep breath as he scans a room full of his past accomplishments. From framed jerseys to helmets that still give off the odor of love, sweat and tears. In an instance he is teleported to kicking a perfect game in his professional debut to then missing a game winning kick in semi-pro. There is no regret in those bold and piercing green eyes. For Craig Pinto, 41, his life started with a love affair with sports and if his home office that is packed with sports memories is any indication it is overtaken by it.
     Many people see sports at the surface, at the scoreboard or wins and losses columns. For Craig Pinto sports specifically being a football place kicker has been more than just a ball going through the uprights. When asked how his romance with sports started a smile from ear to ear came across his face as he said, “My dad, our family [are] big soccer fans and big hockey and Islanders fans [of] the early 80’s. He was my coach in intramurals and in travel soccer..so he is probably my biggest influence in getting started with sports”. To Pinto family and sports were always intertwined, it was something that helped the family to connect and stay connected. Home is where the heart is and sports was definitely home.
     To truly have  success in his football life  was to have the support of his family which was  without question. It was not only his father who played an integral part but also his mother Rosa and two sisters Andrea and Alyssa. His family has always been there every step of the way as his sister Alyssa puts it, “We have always been a very close family. To see him go through all these different phases of football in his life..it was always very important for me to be by his side through all of it because I know when I achieved different things or when I’ve been at different points in my life he has also been there for me. To be able to be in each others lives..has been a blessing for us”. His mother coupled with his father’s coaching instilled that support at a very young age, “Craig was always so passionate about sports. As a parent it is extremely important to support your children in whatever passion they have. It is our duty as a parent to encourage them to pursue their passion”.
    The unwavering support from his family there wasn’t any path Pinto could not of taken. So why Kicker? When asked why he chose to be a place kicker there was a laser sharp focus in those green eyes and the room became eerily quiet when he said, “It was always a focal thing for me especially with field goal kicking. It takes a lot of focus whether it’s the game winning kick or whether there [are] people yelling at you or when a ball is snapped and you have 11 guys rushing you. It takes an extreme amount of focus so getting out there and being able to kick and play that position well. It was basically a way to not think about anything else that was going on and put me in like a tunnel of doing something that I love”. That laser focus slowly turned into a tremble in his voice as Pinto realized that field goal kicking helped him to escape from his everyday struggles. He was diagnosed with Crohn's and Celiac at an early age when there wasn’t as much awareness for it as there is today. For some people kicking a field goal is a simple act with no emotion but it was away to block out the pain, “All the stuff that went on around sports, playing football..was the one constant that was the same regardless how physically things changed or emotionally or mentally things changed in life the feel was always the same. I can go out there with a bag of footballs and kind of be focused in on really the sport”.  With football nothing else matter in that moment.  That led to playing division 1 football at Hofstra University, captaining and playing two years professionally for the Arena Indoor Football League’s New Jersey Revolution and countless years of semi-pro in various different leagues. He has even used his platform as an athlete to help raise awareness for Celiac by setting three Guinness world records that raised money for his now folded foundation, Celiac Disease Foundation to help with research. He holds the record for most 40 yard field goals made in 12 hours (717), the record for the most 40 yard field goals made in 24 hours (1,000) and the record for most 40 yard field goals made in one minute (11). All those feats are great individual accomplishments but they were for causes that were bigger than him.
    As of now Craig Pinto is a director of development at Lawrence Woodmere Academy in Woodmere, NY but as he says, “Whatever tomorrow brings I’ll be there”, as he quotes his favorite band Incubus. Those lines are tattooed on his ribs to give him a daily reminder that no matter what life throws his way he is ready to overcome it. The legacy he wishes to leave is one that remembers him as being a person that was of service to people, unselfish, preached unity, respect and above all love for family. Sports are more than the tip of an iceberg it is what is under the water which reveals the human story.
