that ask you got a while ago mentioning the chasingverse made me realize that once you finish legacy of the olympians... it's over. it's the last multichap fic dedicated to pjo you've done in a while, as well as just the last pjo fic you've done in a while since you started it. it's both heartbreakingly nostalgic and oddly, weirdly sweet to realize this might be your last pjo fic ever. you have moved on, you're even writing original content, and it's beautiful to see. it was an honor reading it.

*laughs* Now, please don't invite people to my funeral just yet! Damn, this ask feels final, like a eulogy. xD

Like, I appreciate the love, but... your perception is a little off. My last PJO oneshot was in April. That's been three months ago.

And I've generally only written three oneshots since then. Because I am no longer a student with a fuck ton of free time, I have a job - since April. So I haven't had much time to write, in general.

I'm right now working on a Jercy oneshot for this year's Writer's Month! And though work is keeping me busy and I have no illusions about writing all 31 prompts, I have multiple PJO fics on my list for it.

I've also only had one ongoing PJO fic at a time for many years now, because I'm also active in other fandoms.

And, as I mention in the author's note for Legacy of Olympians, one of the reasons the story is coming to an end next month is because I have a different Jercico multichapter fic idea that I am very enthusiastic about, so I'm wrapping things up on this fic to get to the next.

So, again, I appreciate the love, but I am not done in this fandom. ;)

So, I’ve just spent like the past week or two rereading all of your PJO fanfiction because you’re my favorite writer for that and I missed your stories, and I was wondering if you think you’ll write more with your next gen OCs? I just love them all so much

Well, first thank you for the compliment ^///^ and I’m glad you love my stories!

I’m fairly sure at one point I will get back into my next gen, but it’s not a very close point? I’ve very distracted by many shiny new fandoms at this point that... are still on-going and give me new content that injects me with inspiration. I’ve been circling the drain on PJO for literally more than half a decade at this point. So my focus and attention have largely shifted to other fandoms in general.

I am eager for the TV show though. Because. New content. New inspiration. New visuals too. Like, just, imagine when we actually get to see a Nico di Angelo???? The thought blows my mind. That’s gonna make me wanna dive back into the deep end, which absolutely will include my next gen too. ;)

When I first set out to write Chasing Fireflies, Jack was supposed to be the lead; though back then, Jack was also a teenaged character. Donny was this... super suave demigod, sure in his powers and a guiding big brother. He felt a bit too... overpowered to me so I revamped things and then grew more attached to Donny and that's how today's version was born!

Hi. I just joined the Rick Riordan Fandom and saw you're Alternate Ending to Heroes of Olympus and I was wandering what order I should read them?

And then, well, that depends on where you read it.

If you’re reading on FFNet, I have my headcanon timeline posted on my profile, with links to the stories (the links to the stories are still working. The links to the art aren’t. Because FFNet stopped supporting outgoing links a couple years ago). You just have to scroll past my schedule and the section where I linked my sequel works for easier finding of series, and bahm, you’re at the chronologically sorted timeline of the stories! ;)

If you’re reading on AO3, I have the whole thing in a nice series! The series itself is mostly in chronological order; I say mostly because one work is a collection of short stories that take place throughout the timeline. So, for the same fully chronological treatment as on FFNet; the very first work in the series is basically that. It includes the timeline, with links to the stories (and single chapters of that short story collection) in full order (also, in this one, the links to the art still work too because AO3 is more compliant)!

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (readingor writing)?

Guilty pleasure, huh? Honestly, I feel like I don’t. Like, everything I enjoy, I enjoy en mass. In reading and in writing it. And I think then it defeats the guilty pleasure purpose, since that’s like that… little thing you dare to indulge in every now and again, best yet in secret. *tilts head thoughtfully*

I just… everything I enjoy, I put into my own fics too and throw at my readers.

Maybe some of the rarer tropes, or the ones I used to write a lot and have dialed back on and am now only rarely revisting when I really crave That Particular One Thing? In that case, I guess a good breeding kink fic, yeah.

K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come upwith?

I have vague recollection that I talked about this before, but there was once this idea to write an explicit fic about that time Percy had a miscarriage in my Chasingverse, where it would then be revealed that Nico had to make a choice, when he goes into the underworld trying to save Percy’s life because the whole thing went south badly and the fates leave it up to Nico to choose if Percy survives or if the baby survives.

But… that was too heavy even for me and I decided to not put it into the canon because that’s too much of a burden for Nico to bear and also the idea of writing this specifically about Percy losing the baby, it… just… It goes against my “happy ending” policy and would only be devastating so I never wrote it.

what would your cf ocs be up to on valentine’s day?

Oh, that’s a cute question! :O Mmmmh... lemme think...

Donny wanted to go on a date with Sander, but he ended up having to bail out Percy Junior, who together with her girlfriend got kind of caught being publicly indecent because heeey it’s Valentine’s Day let’s switch it up some. Needless to say, Donny is not in the best mood. But Sander, the loyal puppy he is, will be waiting for him with dinner and chocolate and his hundred watt smile, so the day is not entirely ruined.

Sam made chocolate for his boyfriends, but he is realistic enough to know they’re not going to have a romantic, fluffy Valentine’s Day. Derek bought them chocolate sauce. And Trend is intrigued. Sam’s getting the fluffy cuddles all through the 15th though, because he finds himself utterly incapable of moving.

Joe and Nico accidentally missed the day. They had started working on this project, you see, on the 13th already. And by the time they finally emerge from Bunker 9.2... well, they are being informed that the 14th has already passed. But hey, in a way, they ended up spending the day together and doing what they love the most, so they don’t count it as a loss!

Phyl made all her friends flower arrangements - it’s a day of love and it doesn’t have to be romantic love. And then she organized a single’s event where they gave each other chocolate and watched trashy rom-com movies in the middle of camp together, so no one has to feel alone and singled out today. It was a lot of fun!

Marshall and Sara are the only ones who are having a normal Valentine’s Day date. Marshall made reservations in a very cute little Italian restaurant in San Francisco and after dinner, they walk along the beach together to enjoy the sunset.

Herc’s not getting a romantic Valentine’s Day this year because it’s Thea’s turn to babysit. She and Luke always alternate, to give their moms the chance to have a romantic and nice day without the kids. But it’s okay. Herc offered to take his youngest brother and also babysit so his parents can go on date-night too and in the end, among the babysitting, Herc and Thea do manage to have a nice evening together.

Oooof. I am so bad at remembering things I wrote. xD

Though one story where the dialogue stuck with me is “The Dragon’s Treasure“. I just, personally, found myself surprisingly funny in that one. Most of my humor is “Literally only I will find this funny lol”, but in this case, I was really pleased with it.

"What... in the world. You took the wrong person, dumb dragon. I'm a prince, not a princess."

"Not every dragon likes pretty princesses, some of us do prefer a pretty prince", replied a dark, rumbling voice, echoing through the cave. "And it is not polite to call others 'dumb'."

It took a moment for Percy to place the voice and even then he had a hard time wrapping his head around it. He very slowly turned his head to face the dragon whose black eyes bore into Percy's very soul. The young prince gulped hard, causing the dragon to look nearly amused.

"You... can... t—talk...", stammered Percy, feeling like the ground beneath his feet was crumbling, only that there was no ground because he was still being held by the dragon. "I've gone mad."

"Debatable", hummed the dragon, very clearly amused now. "But yes, of course I can talk. All dragons can talk, we just choose not to because most humans are not good conversationalists."

"So... why are you talking to me? And why did you abduct me?", asked Percy skeptically.

The dragon seemed to frown as he tilted his head – the voice was very clearly male. "If I put you down now, will you be a good, little human and not run away? If you try to run, I will be forced to punish you and I did have other plans for today, little one."

"First of all, I'm not little!", sputtered Percy with a fierce glare.

"Of course, fragile creature that fits into the palm of my hand", drawled the dragon out sarcastically.

Percy's glare darkened even more, though he also looked a bit embarrassed. "Whatever. Yes, yes I won't run away. I just want to know what the hell is going on here."

The dragon cautiously put Percy down before patting his head with a single claw. "There, there. Good, little human. Now, just sit there and wait for a moment. Don't scream, it's annoying."

Percy wanted to ask why, but then it already happened. The magnificent dragon shrank down to... a human-like version of himself. His skin was darker than that of Percy or his country's people, an olive-color, there were patches of scales on his arms and torso. Black curls and silver horns on his head, eyes still as dark and intense as they had been before, with a predator-like look on his face. Percy shuddered under that intense gaze. Around his hips was a piece of leather wrapped that looked pretty much like the dragon's skin had; black, beautiful and adored with sapphire-shards. Thanks to the cloth only around his loins, the human-looking dragon was showing off his very nice physique. Percy felt his face heat up as he stared at the gorgeous creature in front of him. The most stunning parts however were behind the young man – large, black leather wings (though of course smaller than the ones from his dragon-form; proportionally shrunken down) and a black tail whipping behind his body. Percy had never seen anything like this creature before.

"W—What are you?", stammered Percy, clearly frightened by the new things.

"I'm a dragon. I had hoped you would be up to speed on that", sighed the creature disappointed. "My name is Níehkkón tou Chaédez, but you can call me Nico, it is most likely easier to pronounce for your human tongue. I am a dragon. And yes, all dragons can talk and all dragons have a humanoid form. Though we only talk to those we deem worthy. And our humanoid form is normally reserved for our mates. I do have the urge to smack you upside the head however and if I'd do that in dragon-form you will most likely never recover from it."

"Why do you—ouch!" Percy interrupted himself as he was smacked upside the head by a tail.

K: What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come upwith?

That’d be Hanging on by Thread. It would have been part of my Chasingverse. And it’d have been a more elaborate look into when Percy lost the baby. I had only hinted at it in the story prior to when he loses it and then talked about the loss during Chasing Fireflies itself, but for a time there I wanted to make a separate story for it.

The whole deal of it was that, during the Giant War, Nico would have gone to the Fates and made a deal with them to protect Percy at all costs, because the thought of losing Percy was too terrifying.

“A life for a life”, was what the Fates declared. “A debt to be paid in days to come.”

And Nico, being young and not knowing what it would entail, agrees.

2020 rolls around, Nico actually managed to get together with Percy, they’re happily married and expecting their fifth child. And then there are complications. While Percy is in the hospital, fighting for his life and the baby’s life, Nico goes to the underworld, trying the only thing he can do.

But he can’t. Because he made the deal. A life for a life. And now he has to make the choice. Uphold the deal and give the life he hasn’t met yet, or undo the deal and instead lose the love of his life and rob their four children of Percy, rob Sally and Paul and Tyson and everyone else of Percy.

So he makes a hard choice that he never told Percy about.

Yeeeah, that was the idea. But then I chickened out of it because I love happy endings and this would literally just reduced me to tears just writing it. Percy losing the baby, blaming himself, slipping into depression, Nico carrying the burden of knowing what had really happened and also blaming himself and just overall angsty sadness. That idea got canceled.

X: A character you enjoy making suffer.

Jace Herondale! He is a precious boy who is so good to hurt! *^* Physically and emotionally! ^o^ It’s just so much fun, because Dom plays him so beautifully and I know how wonderful he looks when he suffers?

Y: A character you want to protect.

On the risk of sounding like a hypocrite: Jace Herondale. As much as I love making Jace suffer, the show has gone way too far at this point, like seriously even my sadist writer self thinks “Slow down some guys, killing dozens of innocent mundies and murdering Clary in his dreams over and over again and then blaming himself for Clary’s supposed real death really seems enough, did you have to make him murder his only livnig relative??”...

When you were doing the next gen kids, how did you decide who ends up with who (Donny x Sander, Trend x Sam x Derek, etc)?????

Well, part of it is always their parentage when hooking up my next gens. Like, “mh, their parents are an alternate ship for each other, it’d be nice that if they are not together, their kids would be”. Another part is the aesthetics and sometimes, it just... happens during the story.

Sander/Donny

In his original design, Donny was supposed to date Luke Chase (as a nice echo of Luke/Percy as well as the whole canon Percy/Annabeth. I like irony in my next gen shipping). But I revamped Donny and aged him up while aging Luke down, so I needed a new love-interest for him.

That’s where my love for Clarisse came into play. I love her, I wanted her kid to be important. So Sander went from regular trickster supporting character to new love-interest and great hero. Originally, I had Sander, Donny and Thea planned to be the new Golden Trio type, but things developed differently.

Herc/Thea

They are partially an ironic take on Jason and Piper being canon. Reyna and Annabeth on the other hand are my second favorite Annabeth-ship so the idea of Annabeth’s daughter getting together with Reyna’s kid was fun, and Reyna and Piper are also a good ship, and I also ship Jason and Annabeth. So, I liked the idea of mixing up the Jason/Reyna and Piper/Annabeth off-springs and kind of designed Herc and Thea based around the idea of them being a couple. They were always designed to be each other’s endgame, from conception.

Trend/Sam/Derek

Well, this one just did what it wanted. Trend and Derek were supposed to be each other’s endgame, but then I accidentally grew attached to Total Background Bully Nr. 3 and Sam Raser grew in importance for the story. Plans changed, I started to love the dynamic I wrote for Trend and Sam and figured I’d make them endgame, but Derek was still there and aside from him and Trend being supposed to be endgame, I loved the dynamic I had given him and Sam, so... that threesome totally happened by accident.

Luke/Thess

Actually developed out of the original concept of Luke/Donny. Thess was just a blank design. I had his visual down, but no personality. So I took the parts that got cut from Donny when I remodeled him and gave them to Thess, including the love-interest.

Kitty/Percy

The aesthetics, I gotta admit. Legacy of Hades and legacy of Hecate, fuck is that a good aesthetic and power-duo. I love the match-up of magic and death. I loved the way they looked and I loved how casual and mainly sexual they developed yet still supportive of each other.

Nico/Joe

That one also happened on its own. Nico was supposed to stay single, but during the journey to Germany, I grew more and more attached to the dynamic between Nico and Joe in a non-platonic way and realized “Hey, you’re the author. If you ship it, you can actually make it canon”, so I did.

Hunt&Heist/Jack

Again, a case of me realizing I can make it canon when I ship it. They were never really supposed to be this prominent either, but I just absolutely loved writing Jack and the dynamic with the trickster twins.

JP/Milly & Fred/Carry

The four legacies of war. Two sets of best friends, two sets of couples. This one was pure math. I liked the idea of JP Grace as the legacy of Bellona, being best friends with Fred Chase the legacy of Athena and dating Milly Zhang the legacy of Mars. For Carry Rodriguez to have her own four children of war, like her big brother Sander, you know?

Marshall/Sara

Opposites attract. I just really love the “big silent guy with short, energetic talkative girl” pair-up.

Basty/Jimmy/Silly

Don‘t even ask me. This just... happened and I genuinely don’t even know how, because I’m not the biggest fan of actual blood-related sibling incest? But Jimmy and Silly... *vaguely motions at them* Silly was just supposed to be a protective sister over how much time Basty spent with Jimmy, but somehow it... got... shippy? *shrugs*

Bianca Maria: Nico’s sister + mother

Hades Poseidon: well. On the nose, but also the only one named after gods because he was born with both their legacies, making him a more likely target for Zeus so he was named after Hades and Poseidon in honor

Sally Persephone: both her grandmothers

Theseus Paul: Greek hero + Percy’s stepfather

James Charles: Sally’s father + Charles Beckendorf

Laura Silena: Sally’s mother + Silena Beauregard

Jackson Tyson: Percy’s birth name + Percy’s brother

Hazel Pandora: Nico’s sister + a vastly misunderstood Greek heroine

Piper/Annabeth’s kids:

Theadora Tiphane: anagram of Athena + Aphrodite, because I found it kind of funny that Annabeth is basically an anagram of Athena “with additional letters”... so I wanted to one-up that

Lucas Thomas: Luke Castellan + Piper’s grandfather

Tristan Frederick: Piper’s father + Annabeth’s father

Matthew Robert: after both of Annabeth’s step-brothers since I headcanoned that she would fully rekindle with her mortal family

Hercules: Once upon a time before Riordan made Hercules such a jerk, I liked the idea of Hercules being Disney’s Hercules like and Jason having a good relationship with his half-brother and honoring him by naming his son after him

Thalia Hylla: Jason’s sister + Reyna’s sister

Jupiter Perseus: trying to honor Jupiter to gain his favor + after proud godparent Percy

Frank/Leo/Hazel’s kids:

Esperanza Nicole: Leo’s mother + Hazel’s brother because he helped deliver the baby

Sammy Marie: Leo’s great-grandfather + Hazel’s mother

Emily Fey: Frank’s mother + *coughs* me sucking and remembering that Frank’s grandma called him Fey... when it was actually Fai but then I had continued for Too Long with it and figured I’d just roll with it because I liked that Fey is another word for a fairy

I wanted all their kids’ names to be Greek and start with C

Calandra: means beautiful youth

Amarilla: sparkling/bright (you know, like how Athena is bright), a Greek name

Derek Rhys: actually not Derek Hale. Keep in mind, this OC was created in 2010. Teen Wolf started airing in 2011. Nope, a Derek that predates Teen Wolf. Derek Shepard from Grey’s Anatomy. I wanted that brunette suave McDreamy look in there. Rhys after Rhys Williams from Torchwood, because I just... really liked the name.

Trendafil Austin: Trendafil is Greek for rose and since he was originally endgamed to be with Derek the son of Demeter, I found that poetic. Austin... literally just because I wanted him to be Texan and figured I’d just go with it all the way and make its capital his last name

Sam Raser: An anagram of Mars+Ares.

Sara Mers: Also an anagram of Mars+Ares, because I wanted that connection between the two of them.

Marshall Mikaelson: Marshall after Marshall Eriksen from How I Met Your Mother, coupled with the last name of Klaus Mikaelson.

Phylicia Rosenberg: Phylicia as a different spelling of Felicity... Smoak. And Rosenberg is German for rose-hill which seemed like a very befitting name for a child of Persephone.

Joanna Foxx: I wanted Joe to have a non-female-traditional nickname. Joe. So I went with Joanna. And Foxx is honestly... just because I like foxes and they’re sly and it fit her.

Sedanur Aykan: I like playing with names and having traditionally-English sounding nicknames for foreign first names. Now, Danny was from the get-go supposed to have a German-Turkish mother, so I was looking for Turkish names there and Sedanur means “light”, which is a very fitting name for a child of Apollo. And Aykan is such a nice contrast because it means “descended from the moon”.

Hayden & Hunter Hood:Hood, obviously after Robin Hood, because thieves. And then I... honestly just googled popular names for twin-boys and picked a set that both had the first letter H because I’m a whore for a good alliteration.

Bellatrix la Fey: Bellatrix after Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter, though also because I wanted the tough daughter of Ares to be called “Bella” because it’s a nice context. And La Fey after Morgana la Fey.

Rainbow Jordan: She’s a daughter of Iris. Three guesses why Rainbow. Jordan was a very random pick though.

Stella Ribeiro: Ribeiro because it means “river”, so in relation to Aphrodite being born by a body of water, I wanted a water-related last name for Stella. Stella, very on-the-nose, meaning “star” and I mean how’s that not a good name for a kid of Aphrodite?

Phineas DeVorut: Phineas named after the dude from the myths... before Riordan pulled him into HoO. And DeVorut... honestly, also named after someone somehow but I legit don’t remember.

Melissa Montgomery: Melissa, Greek meaning “bee” and Montgomery... reminds me of wine, don’t ask me why. So it kinda fit for a kid of Dionysus for me.

Lila Lovegood: Lila is German and means “purple”. Lovegood after Luna Lovegood also I love alliterations so there’s that.

Loki Murdock: Loki, very obviously, after the Norse Trickster. Now, where I got that particular Murdock from, I don’t remember. It ain’t Matt Murdock, because I didn’t know the guy back then. I heard the name somewhere and found it to sound very trickster-like so I picked that for Loki.

Blance Lamour: Blance, French for “white”, which, come on, snow, daughter of Khione. Super on the nose. Lamour, French for “love”, as a stark contrast to her cold-hearted exterior.

Takara Phenia Thompson: Takara, named after my mascot because I do so love inserting different forms of her into stories. Phenia after an OC kid of Cole/Phoebe from Charmed, because witch. And Thompson... legit just for the alliteration with Takara.

Arielle Schneider: Arielle is the German dub name of Ariel and since she’s a daughter of Triton, I just couldn’t not. Schneider, German “tailor”, just because it’s a super-ass common last name and I didn’t want to be deep when I created them.

Now, not every name has some deep philosophical meaning where I got it from. Some are legit just “I like this rather common first name and that rather common last name and the combination fits this character”, like Charles Smith, Victor Kruger, Leroy Jones, Erik Anderson, Jonas Meyer, Ulrika Schuster.
