Four years ago today (March 13th), then President Donald Trump got around to declaring a national state of emergency for the COVID-19 pandemic. The administration had been downplaying the danger to the United States for 51 days since the first US infection was confirmed on January 22nd.
From an ABC News article dated 25 February 2020...
CDC warns Americans of 'significant disruption' from coronavirus
Until now, health officials said they'd hoped to prevent community spread in the United States. But following community transmissions in Italy, Iran and South Korea, health officials believe the virus may not be able to be contained at the border and that Americans should prepare for a "significant disruption." This comes in contrast to statements from the Trump administration. Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said Tuesday the threat to the United States from coronavirus "remains low," despite the White House seeking $1.25 billion in emergency funding to combat the virus. Larry Kudlow, director of the National Economic Council, told CNBC’s Kelly Evans on “The Exchange” Tuesday evening, "We have contained the virus very well here in the U.S." [ ... ] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the request "long overdue and completely inadequate to the scale of this emergency." She also accused President Trump of leaving "critical positions in charge of managing pandemics at the National Security Council and the Department of Homeland Security vacant." "The president's most recent budget called for slashing funding for the Centers for Disease Control, which is on the front lines of this emergency. And now, he is compounding our vulnerabilities by seeking to ransack funds still needed to keep Ebola in check," Pelosi said in a statement Tuesday morning. "Our state and local governments need serious funding to be ready to respond effectively to any outbreak in the United States. The president should not be raiding money that Congress has appropriated for other life-or-death public health priorities." She added that lawmakers in the House of Representatives "will swiftly advance a strong, strategic funding package that fully addresses the scale and seriousness of this public health crisis." Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also called the Trump administration's request "too little too late." "That President Trump is trying to steal funds dedicated to fight Ebola -- which is still considered an epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo -- is indicative of his towering incompetence and further proof that he and his administration aren't taking the coronavirus crisis as seriously as they need to be," Schumer said in a statement.
A reminder that Trump had been leaving many positions vacant – part of a Republican strategy to undermine the federal government.
Here's a picture from that ABC piece from a nearly empty restaurant in San Francisco's Chinatown. The screen displays a Trump tweet still downplaying COVID-19 with him seeming more concerned about the effect of the Dow Jones on his re-election bid.
Tumblr media
People were not buying Trump's claims but they were buying PPE.
I took this picture at CVS on February 26th that year.
Tumblr media
The stock market which Trump in his February tweet claimed looked "very good" was tanking on March 12th – the day before his state of emergency declaration.
Tumblr media
Trump succeeded in sending the US economy into recession much faster than George W. Bush did at the end of his term – quite a feat!. (As an aside, every recession in the US since 1981 has been triggered by Republican presidents.)
Of course Trump never stopped trying to downplay the pandemic nor did he ever take responsibility for it. The US ended up with the highest per capita death rate of any technologically advanced country.
Precious time was lost while Trump dawdled. Orange on this map indicates COVID infections while red indicates COVID deaths. At the time Trump declared a state of emergency, the virus had already spread to 49 states.
Tumblr media
The United States could have done far better and it had the tools to do so.
The Obama administration had limited the number of US cases of Ebola to under one dozen during that pandemic in the 2010s. Based on their success, they compiled a guide on how the federal government could limit future pandemics.
Obama team left pandemic playbook for Trump administration, officials confirm
Of course Trump ignored it.
Unlike those boxes of nuclear secrets in Trump's bathroom, the Obama pandemic limitation document is not classified. Anybody can read it – even if Trump didn't. This copy comes from the Stanford University Libraries.
TOWARDS EPIDEMIC PREDICTION: FEDERAL EFFORTS AND OPPORTUNITIES IN OUTBREAK MODELING
Feel free to share this post with anybody who still feels nostalgic about the Trump White House years!

Finally caught up with both "The Giggle" and "The Church on Ruby Road".
The Giggle:
RTD really said "Fourteen needs therapy and time to heal, and he's gonna get it with Donna and her family."
Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker is alternatively hilarious and pure nightmare fuel, but this was perfect casting.
I cackled during the Toymaker’s recap of the Moffat era. I’m not a fan of the Moffat era, so that scene was hilarious to me and felt like a Take That for all the times Moffat was needlessly, maliciously petty about the RTD era and his OCs being better than RTD’s Doctors and companions.
The section with the creepy dolls and the man with his head on a life-size puppet's body. Nooo thank you. That was genuinely creepy.
The switch between the German accent and NPH’s natural American accent was great too, in a black comedy way. NPH is great at putting on a German accent, so I don't mind, and love that there were snatches of German throughout the Toymaker's dialogue. (Grammatically correct German, too, for the most part.)
The Toymaker making his entrance to UNIT with the Spice Girls was both hilarious and terrifying, and made even better by Fourteen's "you have got to be fucking kidding me with this shit" face. "First the Master dancing to Rasputin and now this, and it hasn't even been a full 24 hours."
I don't have a problem with the bi-generation, actually. Fifteen is great and I love him already, plus this gives Fourteen time to heal.
The Church on Ruby Road:
I'm liking the new companion Ruby Sunday so far. She reminds me of a mix of Rose Tyler and Sam Jones.
Fifteen in a nightclub with a white tank, long kilt, and a leather jacket? Yes, gimme.
I was half expecting “Magic Dance” to start playing when Fifteen and Ruby were on the Goblin ship, ngl.
I love Fifteen's burnt orange leather trenchcoat. And man, he is pretty. Very, very pretty.
RTD continuing to reference the Timeless Child thing, yes. Also love that Ruby was happily adopted and there's the mystery of her birth parents. She wants to know where she comes from, but that doesn't make her adopted family any less of her family, and she clearly loves her mum and gran.
Fifteen continuing the trend of the Doctor being sarcastic and sassy in danger, plus mild swearing first brought in by Nine and Ten. I love it a lot.
"I am learning the language of rope!" More of Fifteen being put in fantasy settings, thanks. I need this. (It wouldn't even be the first time. See: the novels feat Seven and Eight.)

Looney Tunes Home Video Thoughts #6 - The Looney Tunes Video Show No. 14-19
August 1984 - The Looney Tunes Video Show (Vol. 14-19)
Format: VHS/Betamax
Original Price: Unknown
Next up while I cover the history of Looney Tunes on home video, While in America, the two compilation films, 1001 Rabbit Tales and Fantastic Island were released. The Looney Tunes Video Show was expanded in the United Kingdom as Volumes 8 through 13 were released in January 1984. And making their video debut in this market are a combination of some of the most popular and some rare findings of Warner Bros. Post-1948 cartoon catalog.
And expanded from 7 cartoons, each tape contains 10 cartoons. And they are only mastered in PAL format, which has a higher resolution than the NTSC 480 format. However, cartoons mastered in PAL are technically sped up by 4 percent resulting the audio to be pitched up almost one semitone. That’s normal for most international markets but not for US, Canada, and Japan markets.
Variety still plays a huge part. The cartoons still have the same low quality transfers. Telecine scan from 35mm prints onto 1-inch videotape.
——
Vol. 14
Tumblr media
Broom-Stick Bunny
Duck! Rabbit, Duck!
Gonzales' Tamales
The Hasty Hare
A Hound for Trouble
The Lion's Busy
Mouse Wreckers
Tweety's S.O.S.
Bugs and Thugs
D' Fightin' Ones
With 4 of 10 shorts being Bugs Bunny cartoons, they are different nonetheless. Vol. 14 is packed with a collection of colorful shorts, in addition to the marquee characters, it includes one with Charlie Dog and one with Beaky Buzzard. With many fan favorites, this a great tape.
Vol. 15
Tumblr media
One Froggy Evening
French Rarebit
Tabasco Road
Hyde and Go Tweet
Little Beau Pepé
Much Ado About Nutting
What's Opera, Doc?
Bear Feat
Daffy Duck Hunt
Each Dawn I Crow
Vol. 15 is an excellent video collection filled with popular favorites, rare gems, and a variety that's outstanding. Including 2 Chuck Jones classics, comedy capers in different settings. Hyde formulas, French chefs, a grand opera, and Daffy as Santa Claus. Brilliant.
Vol. 16
Tumblr media
Frigid Hare
Henhouse Henery
Hyde and Hare
Little Boy Boo
Mutiny on the Bunny
Zoom and Bored
Beep Prepared
Bugsy and Mugsy
Daffy's Inn Trouble
Baton Bunny
BONUS
Bell Hoppy
Chili Weather
A majority of this Vol. 16 is filled with Bugs Bunny shorts, Foghorn got two, and Road Runner & Coyote got two. Nonetheless, the bonus cartoons are a nice surprise, and the presentation does present some variety based on the premises. This is still a good tape compilation.
Vol. 17
Tumblr media
From A to Z-Z-Z-Z
Here Today, Gone Tamale
The Hypo-Chondri-Cat
Little Red Rodent Hood
My Bunny Lies over the Sea
Zip 'n Snort
Design for Leaving
Gee Whiz-z-z-z-z-z-z
High Diving Hare
Jumpin' Jupiter
Vol. 17 improves from the previous video from its selection to order of presentation. Beginning with a one-shot cartoon and saving the best until the end like "High Diving Hare" and "Jumpin' Jupiter" make it a great viewing experience. Great cartoon choices, a great tape
Vol. 18
Tumblr media
Long-Haired Hare
My Little Duckaroo
Bewitched Bunny
Bunny Hugged
Devil's Feud Cake
Fast and Furry-ous
Gift Wrapped
Hip Hip- Hurry!
A Kiddies Kitty
Lovelorn Leghorn
Vol. 18 puts more focus on the marquee characters. Starting right off the bat with four Chuck Jones cartoons, with the remaining of the video focusing on the marquee characters. Still a good collection with the addition of some rare findings even on VHS.
Vol. 19
Tumblr media
Napoleon Bunny-Part
Tweet Tweet Tweety
Big House Bunny
Canary Row
Dog Pounded
Going! Going! Gosh!
Kiss Me Cat
Nelly's Folly
Touché and Go
A Bird in a Bonnet
Despite the last cartoon finishing this series off on a wimper (the musician's strike of 1958 forced Termite Terrace to use stock music), four Tweety and Sylvester cartoons, this tape is alright. Vol. 19 is definitely a worthy extension if you in search for some rare oddities.
This concludes The Looney Tunes Video Show. Excellent front cover work by the artists. Warner Home Video's UK division gave us more cartoons than what was seen in America at the time. The UK did not have The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Show or syndicated program plots. Some of these shorts are seen once a day on BBC.
Up next, is the Warner Bros. Cartoons Golden Jubilee 24 Karat Collection - Wave 1 (October 1985).

Three Celebrity Podcasts: Naomi Osaka; Johnny Knoxville; Jay Glazer
Tumblr media
When existing health organizations collaborate with celebrities, then people pay attention. In effect, the celebrity's fans get converted into podcast listeners. That's what's happening here, and it just so happens that the celebrity athlete and the health organization make an excellent fit.
Modern Health, which is a leading global workplace mental health platform, and Naomi Osaka’s Emmy Award-nominated media company, Hana Kuma, have announced the release of their podcast video series, Can’t Wait To Hear From You. The series delves deep into the psyche of high-performing individuals, exploring their daily connection with their inner voice, pivotal moments that shaped their self-expression, and the effective mental care strategies they employ to nurture their identity. Can’t Wait to Hear From You features two rotating hosts – New York Times bestselling author Luvvie Ajayi Jones as well as renowned YouTube influencer Franny Arrieta.
“I am so excited to be officially launching Can’t Wait to Hear from You,” said Naomi Osaka. “It’s such an impactful series where we openly talk about mental health. Since speaking out about my own experiences, I’ve felt so much empowerment in my vulnerability and I’ve received so much love and support from my close circle, my fans, and Modern Health. I want others to feel the same and I hope this video podcast series will encourage them to have open discussions and feel less shame.”
“Mental health as a topic has always faced stigma, and that is something we are on a mission to change,”  said Alyson Watson, founder & CEO of Modern Health. “By showcasing vulnerable and intimate conversations with high-profile business leaders, sports personalities, actors, and activists, we aim to normalize this topic and underscore the power of aligning your inner voice with your personal purpose.”
The series premiered on Thursday, March 28 at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET on Hana Kuma’s YouTube channel, with the first guest entrepreneur, author, and former Chief Marketing Officer at Netflix, Bozoma Saint John. Additional upcoming guests include actor and activist Kendrick Sampson; eight-time All-American and distinguished four-time member of the USA Gymnastics Junior National Team Katelyn Ohashi; founder and CEO of lifestyle brand Market Mike Cherman; entrepreneur and founder of Lyons Wines Chris Lyons; in addition to a special edition episode hosted by Osaka featuring the United States Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy.
This series serves as a continuation of Modern Health’s partnership with Osaka. The company has launched a series of children’s meditations, developed and narrated by the tennis champion, covering important topics, including how to conquer overwhelming feelings and apply skills like self-compassion. Osaka was also featured in Modern Health’s first-ever Family Huddle series, designed to empower families and caregivers to discuss strategies for building positive mental health habits.

Check out this show. We need more conversation about mental health in our society.

SmartLess Media has announced its next original podcast, Pretty Sure I Can Fly. SmartLess Media is a joint venture between Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes. Off the success of their mega-hit podcast, SmartLess, the trio founded SmartLess Media to branch out and create more comedy content – for the podcast space and beyond. Pretty Sure I Can Fly, hosted by Johnny Knoxville and Elna Baker, explores and celebrates the remarkable and slightly unhinged people who have pushed history forward and redefined the limits of human potential.
Listen to the Pretty Sure I Can Fly trailer here:
“Nothing makes me happier than reading about some wonderful nut who has achieved an extraordinary feat under impossible conditions while everyone is telling them it couldn't or shouldn’t be done,” said Knoxville. “I find their stories endlessly inspiring and now, with this podcast, Elna and I will get to pick their courageous brains and see why they do what they do. Why in the hell would someone want to surf a 100 foot wave or battle -56 degree temperatures and polar bears for weeks trying to reach the geographic North Pole? I mean sheesh am I the only sane one here?”“It takes a particular kind of fucked upness, or blind positivity or just being off your rocker to do the things our guests have done,” said Baker. “When you have an opportunity to create a podcast with Johnny Knoxville and Elna Baker, you say yes,” said SmartLess Media President Richard Korson. Pretty Sure I Can Fly guests will include Travis Pastrana (professional motorsports competitor and stunt performer), Garrett McNamara (professional big wave surfer, Amplify Pictures’ 100 Foot Wave broadcast on HBO), Dudley Stokes (legendary Jamaican bobsledder), Ann Daniels (polar explorer), Tori Murden (first woman and the first American to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean) and more. PRETTY SURE I CAN FLY Premiere date: April 8 on Amazon Music/Wondery+, April 15 on all podcast services What can we expect? Based on the guests, this show should be a massive upgrade from Jackass. I mean, how many times can you punch a guy in the balls and get a laugh? Apparently, a lot of times. **************************************************
Another excellent podcast about mental health,“Unbreakable with Jay Glazer: A Mental WEALTH Podcast” is an extension of Jay Glazer’s widely-acclaimed, best-selling book “Unbreakable.” The podcast features Fox NFL Insider Jay Glazer as he shares his personal mental health journey with the audience, including the tools and techniques he’s developed to “live in the gray” – his term for living and thriving with anxiety, depression and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Welcoming mental health experts, athletes, coaches, celebrities and others, Glazer and his special guests share personal stories of overcoming adversity, the tools they use to incur MENTAL WEALTH, and their paths to success to help motivate, uplift and inspire listeners, and help set them up to win. New episodes are posted on Wednesdays, with frequent check-ins where Glazer updates listeners as he navigates the path to mental wellness.
If you're not a sports fan, Jay Glazer, national television personality, Fox NFL Insider, best-selling author and host of “Unbreakable with Jay Glazer: A Mental WEALTH Podcast,” set up the first-ever, in-person reunion between former Iraq War POW Shoshana Johnson and her rescuer, U.S. Marine Curney Russell. Retired U.S. Army Specialist Johnson, the first U.S. black female prisoner of war, was among the members of the Army’s 507th Maintenance Company from Fort Bliss who were captured in Nasiriyah, Iraq, on March 23, 2003, and held for 22 days. Russell was part of the U.S. Marine squad who rescued Johnson and six other American soldiers who were held hostage. Johnson and Russell have not seen each other in person since the rescue operation in 2003. Glazer, who previously interviewed Johnson and Russell for his “Unbreakable” podcast, made a promise to get them in the same room so they could see each other once again.  With this past Saturday marking the 21st anniversary of Johnson’s capture, she and Russell were invited to Glazer’s home for a special reunion. “These are two of the most amazing, courageous, inspirational people I’ve ever met, and I made a promise during our first podcast to reunite them,” said Glazer. “This was about keeping my promise, but it turned into something even more beautiful. Seeing them connect after all these years was incredible. Plus, two other members of their unit came to surprise Shoshana. It was an absolutely magical reunion!” Watch the reunion HERE. Johnson and Russell are also featured on last week’s episode of “Unbreakable with Jay Glazer: A Mental WEALTH Podcast” for a follow-up conversation to their interview last November. Johnson and Russell’s “Unbreakable” interview is available now on iHeartRadio and everywhere podcasts are heard.  Listen HERE.

25 years ago today, Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones completed the first round-the-world balloon flight. Theirs, of course, but also that of their team, their family and the millions of people who followed their adventure. At the dawn of the internet, at the end of the last century and the age of exploration, this race was one of another time. Reminiscent of the exploits of the great explorers in search of a new sea route or a new territory, and the space race between the USSR and the United States, this time it was the dream of the last Grail of aeronautics. No geopolitical games, but a race that was both ruthless and friendly between American, British, Australian, Dutch and even Swiss teams who, 216 years after the invention of the hot-air balloon, wanted to achieve, like Magellan and his crew, the feat of a lifetime.   So it was the Swiss team that, on 21 March 1999, by landing in the heat of the Egyptian desert, succeeded where so many others had failed. An adventure that most fans experienced in 20 days, but which in reality was the fruit of years of work, sacrifices and failures.

Joel Embiid breaks Wilt Chamberlain's 76ers record with a 70-point game.
The Process Unleashed: Embiid Erupts with 70 Points, Shattering 76ers Record
The Philadelphia 76ers faithful erupted Monday night, not just from the thunderous dunks and silky post moves, but from witnessing history unfold before their eyes. Joel Embiid, the man affectionately nicknamed "The Process," unleashed an offensive torrent unlike any seen in recent memory, pouring in a career-high 70 points to not only lead the 76ers to a 133-123 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, but to etch his name forever in Philadelphia's basketball lore.
Embiid's performance was a masterclass in offensive dominance. He was unstoppable down low, bullying defenders with his signature blend of power and finesse. He drained fadeaway jumpers with effortless grace, and even surprised with a newfound confidence from beyond the arc, knocking down four three-pointers on the night. The energy in the Wells Fargo Center was electric, with every basket met with an eruption of cheers and chants of "MVP! MVP!"
This wasn't just any 70-point game; it was a historic feat. Embiid surpassed Wilt Chamberlain's 68-point franchise record, a mark that had stood for nearly 55 years. The "Big Dipper," a legend not only in Philadelphia but throughout the NBA, had cast a long shadow over 76ers basketball history. But on Monday night, Embiid stepped out of that shadow and into the spotlight, claiming his own place in the team's pantheon of greats.
Embiid's scoring spree wasn't a lone wolf effort. He received stellar support from his teammates, with James Harden contributing 25 points and Tobias Harris adding 17. But this night belonged to Embiid. He was the conductor of the Philadelphia symphony, orchestrating the offense with a blend of power and precision that left the Spurs defense bewildered and the fans ecstatic.
The significance of Embiid's achievement transcends mere statistics. It represents the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Drafted as a raw, injury-prone prospect, Embiid has transformed himself into one of the most dominant forces in the NBA. He's the face of the franchise, the cornerstone of their hopes for a championship. And on Monday night, he proved that he's not just talented, he's historic.
Embiid's 70-point performance will be remembered for years to come. It was a night of raw athleticism, unbridled joy, and a city united in its celebration of a basketball icon. It was the night Joel Embiid became more than just a player; he became a legend.
Here are some additional points you may want to consider including in your content:
The reactions of Embiid and his teammates to the record-breaking performance.
The historical context of Wilt Chamberlain's record and what it means to have surpassed it.
The impact of Embiid's performance on the 76ers' playoff chances.
The overall significance of this game for the city of Philadelphia and its basketball fans.

Record-Breaking Champions Shine at Monumental Marathon
Tumblr media
  Monumental Races Rewrite History
New Course Records Set in Marathon and 5K In an extraordinary display of athleticism and determination, the 16th annual CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K took over downtown Indianapolis this morning, attracting a massive crowd of nearly 15,000 participants. The event left its mark on history with not one, but three new course records, while 19 remarkable athletes achieved the unofficial Olympic Team Trials - Marathon standard.
New Marathon Champions Triumph
In the heart-pounding Men's Marathon, Lyle O'Brien from Boulder, Colorado, emerged as the victor, crossing the finish line in a stunning 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 41 seconds. Notably, O'Brien's performance bested the previous course record set in 2021 by almost a minute. On the women's side, Rachel Hannah, hailing from Post Elgin, Ontario, showcased her extraordinary prowess. She broke the women's course record, finishing with a time of 2 hours, 35 minutes, and 17 seconds, an achievement that left the 2019 record of 2 hours, 35 minutes, and 36 seconds in the dust.
Monumental 5K Smashes Records
The Monumental 5K witnessed a smashing new record in the women's division. Mackenzie Callahan, a Boulder, Colorado native, clinched the 2023 title in 16 minutes and 3 seconds. Her performance outshone the previous record of 16 minutes and 18 seconds, which had remained untouched for seven years.
Monumental Champions and Their Victories

By • Olalekan Fagbade BREAKING Labour Party suffers huge set back as 21 LG Chairmwn dump party ahead of Guber polls The Labour Party (LP) on Friday suffered a setback as all its 21 Local Government Chairmen defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the defected chairmen defected to the ruling APC with with scores of their supporters. NAN also reports that they were received by the state APC Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, at the Lugard House, Lokoja. The leader of the defectors, Mr Awe Kayode, said that they decided to collapse their structure into the APC in order to support the party’s Governorship Candidate, Usman Ododo, in the forthcoming Nov. 11 governorship poll. Kayode also said that their defection became imperative when they realised that the LP was no longer viable in state. “Another reason for our defection is our conviction that the APC candidate, Usman Ododo, has shown that he is a unifier whose nationalist qualities are needed to consolidate on the achievements of Gov. Yahaya Bello. “I was in APC before I left to join the Labour Party. I am back today with more people and we are ready to add value. LP got more than 76,000 votes in the last presidential election; we still have the same people that worked to achieve that feat. “The state belongs to all of us and we have decided to jettison ethnic or religious agenda to support the candidate of APC who promotes the Kogi Agenda. “Indeed Labour Party structure in the state was a formidable one that delivered massive votes to the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, without inducement or support, but we want to do same to APC and Ododo this time around,” he said. Kayode added that their decision to collapse the LP structure into the APC was to join forces with the progressives to actualise the ‘Kogi Agenda’ which sought to further unite the people and ensure even development across board. Similarly, the LP Chairman for Bassa LGA, who doubles as the Chairman of LP Chairmen Forum, Jimba Emmanuel, noted that a political party was just a platform to power. He added that good governance was about individuals passionate about development and attracting dividends of democracy to the people. He said that the governorship candidate of the LP lacked the required quality, hence their decision to abandon “the sinking ship”. According to him, “I and my colleagues here have agreed to mobilise all our structures across the 21 local government areas to deliver massive votes for the APC candidate come Nov. 11. The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wemi Jones, commended the leader of the “Obidient Movement” in Kogi, Awe Kayode, for his doggedness and mobilisation ability. Jones said that the crowd seen was a testimony of the genuineness of their decision to join the progressives. He urged the defectors to join forces in canvassing and mobilising for the victory of the APC governorship candidate to ensure sustainability and consolidation of the gains made by the Yahaya Bello’s administration. Receiving the defectors, the Kogi APC Chairman, Abdullahi Bello, said “APC is a party that believes in development, equality and has good reward system.” Bello, assured the new members of enjoying all the privileges as other members of the APC, adding that he was glad that the defectors were passionate and reasonable enough to distinguish between right and wrong. “Your decision to join the APC shows that you appreciated the developmental efforts of Gov Yahaya Bello and his unwavering commitment to the unity, security and wellbeing of the people of Kogi State. “Aside from the character and leadership qualities of Usman Ododo, who is a critical member of the New Direction Administration, our governor has further equipped him with the needed knowledge and experience to lead the state and consolidate on his achievements,” he said. He urged members of the APC to disregard noise makers in opposition parties and go all out to ensure massive victory for the APC candidate.
According to him, as far as the Nov. 11 governorship election is concerned, APC has no rival as victory is sure. (NAN)

From Vaqueros to Cowboys: Unveiling the Evolution of Western Tack and Riding Gear
At Showtime Awards, our horse and rider tack evolved from the spirit of the Old West.    We offer both the cutting edge and the vintage in our authentically designed western trophy buckles, bits and bridle silver, spurs and saddle pads.   That means our inspiration is the American cowboy.
The American cowboy draws much of his history -- especially his history with horses -- from a long line of explorers from Spain who cross pollinated with Mexican culture beginning around 1519.
Shortly after the Spanish arrived in the Americas, they began to build ranches to raise cattle and other livestock.   Horses were imported from Spain and put to work on the ranches.    Mexico’s native cowboys were called vaqueros, which comes from the Spanish word vaca (cow). Vaqueros were hired by ranchers to tend to the livestock and were known for their superior roping, riding and herding skills.
Charros were originally land, horse, and cattle owners who had a high social and economic status. They would meet during ceremonies and festivals and demonstrate their skills through several varieties of rodeo games called charrería.  Charros and charrería remain important parts of Mexican traditional culture. During these festive events which were early horse shows, charros could display splendidly decorated horse tack and spurs.
By the early 1700s, ranching made its way to present-day Texas, New Mexico, Arizona. When the California missions started in 1769, livestock practices were introduced to more areas in the West.  Though they originated in Mexico, American cowboys created a style and reputation all their own. Throughout history, their iconic lifestyle has been glamorized in countless books, movies and television shows—but the rough, lonely and sometimes grueling work of a cowboy wasn’t for the faint of heart or the weak of body.
Even though the cowboy’s role began to decline in the 1920s, Hollywood movies popularized the cowboy lifestyle with Westerns from the 1920s to the 1940s. These films featured stars like John Wayne, Buck Jones and Gene Autry. American audiences tuned in to see the fictional adventures of the Lone Ranger and Tonto, Will Kane in “High Noon” and “Hopalong Cassidy” on screen. Comic book fans could read about The Black Rider and Kid Colt.
They typically wore large hats with wide brims to protect them from the sun, boots to help them ride horses and bandanas to guard them from dust. Some wore chaps on the outsides of their trousers to protect their legs from sharp cactus needles and rocky terrain.
Everyday work was difficult and laborious for cowboys. Workdays often lasted 15 hours, and much of that time was spent on a horse or doing other physical labor but they still looked for ways to recreate.
The first American horse events involved cowboys testing their skills against one another by performing in rodeos—competitions that were based on the daily tasks of a cowboy.  Rodeo activities included bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, bareback bronc riding and barrel racing -- events that they still include today.  The first professional rodeo was held in Prescott, Arizona, in 1888. Since then, rodeos became—and continue to be—popular entertainment events in the United States, Mexico and elsewhere.  The trophy buckle was imported from Mexico as a way to commemorate special feats of horsemanship.
Cowboys were always looking for better equipment to give themselves an advantage in their daily work and the competitions that would spring up.  Many spent their spare time tooling better pieces of gear for their trade.    They designed new bits and bridles, spurs and boots, chaps and saddle pads to make their work easier and more efficient.
For example, the snaffle bit is the oldest style bit recorded in history, originally used on war horses and pulling horses.  It was first seen in the American West in Nevada.  At the Showtime Awards, we designed an O-RING SNAFFLE BIT that has a break in the center and when put in the horse's mouth, bends to a V-shape.    In addition to being a beautiful bit, it is a humane training bit.  Picking up one side of the bit with the rein is the best method for the rider to teach the horse to soften in the poll area and bend his body.
Our handsome CORRECTION BIT which descends from the Spanish spade bit  is for use on horses with more advanced training.  These bits took their inspiration are designed for lighter contact with the horse's mouth than the snaffle bit.
Showtime Awards will also design custom bridle and spur silver for your needs.   We have stock designed silver too for bridles and spur straps.
Today the ornate Spanish and Mexican style spurs have been streamlined into a more useful modern version.  Spurs are a very useful aid for cueing the horse with minimal leg or boot pressure.  At Showtime Awards we offer 3 styles with heel bands that can be bent to stay securely on every style of cowboy boot.   The shanks of the CUTTER SPUR angle upward so the rider can easily raise his leg and rub the rowel on the horse's side or lower his leg and rub it on the horse's belly.   The shank on the REINER SPURS is straighter so that the rider can accurately touch a spot on the horse's side by reaching his leg lower or back on the horse's flank.   The ROPER SPURS are designed for ropers and barrel racers to encourage their horses to move forward.
Our STIRRUPS are heavy duty aluminum designed to keep a rider's feet down and in place so he can do fast events like reining or slow ones like Western Pleasure.
Saddle pads in the Old West were to protect the horse's back from saddle rubs.   Today, our SADDLE BLANKETS still fill that need but have become part of the horse and rider's ensemble at horse shows too.   Our saddle pads all have wear leathers and come in two types.  Our patterned pads have rotary engraved plates and our solid-colored pads have beautiful custom plates created by our silversmiths.
No matter what Western riding event you compete in we've got you covered with handsome, well designed, affordable riding gear.

The video was Directed by George Panagakos of 525 Media. Watch the Video on YouTube Regarding the genesis of this tune, Mark explained, “At The Border” was originally written about the struggles of the people fleeing the war in Ukraine, but is also inspired by the millions of people all around the world trying to escape oppression and hunger on an ongoing basis”. In a pre-production meeting, Newman told the director, “This has been going on since the times of Ancient Egypt. People have had to leave their homes to find better lives elsewhere throughout history.
