TOS slash pairings prevalence, according to site Fanlore.org:

Tumblr media
I expected K/S to be much more popular than the others, of course. But certainly wouldn't have thought that Kirk/McCoy is a "rare" pairing.
Ironic when you think about some of those blooper reels...

Fandom 101: Getting Started on Fanlore.org
Not long ago, we at Duck Prints Press decided that we’d like the Press to have a page on Fanlore. To accomplish that, Press contributor Shea Sullivan made an account and figured out the nuts and bolts on how to add pages to Fanlore. Turns out, it’s not very hard, and now in this guest blog post, Shea will teach y’all how to do it too!
Making Your First Fanlore Page!
Hello! I am an editor on Fanlore as of a few days ago. Before that, I’d worked with mediawiki (the open source platform Fanlore uses) for unrelated projects, so I had a general understanding of how things worked, but no idea how Fanlore preferred their pages to be formatted or organized or linked.
This is how I got started!
First: What is Fanlore and Why Should You Care?
Fanlore is a wiki specifically dedicated to the fandom experience. It’s not for canon info about a specific fandom; rather, it’s for information about how fans interact with media and each other. Fanlore is run by the OTW, the same organization that brings us our beloved AO3. This context helped me in understanding the focus of Fanlore. It’s about fandom: the ups, the downs, the trends, the drama…all the things that can get lost forever when sites disappear or there’s a purge. And that said…well, you may still not care. But if you do, read on!
Second: You Care. Now What?
Get an account. Right now. It’s worth getting the account, because you won’t be able to create new pages for a few hours. So, get the account first, figure out what to do with it later.
Go to fanlore.org and click on “Create Account” in the upper right-hand corner:
Tumblr media
Third: You Have the Power (Soon)!
Read up! No need to invent the wheel in this post – they’ve got some great resources for getting started already written on their webpage.
Fanlore Getting Started Page
General Help Pages on Fanlore
Four hours after you create your account, you can create pages! Congrats! There are a ton of help pages out there, but the questions I had initially were:
How do I make sure this page doesn’t exist already?
Search. Search for the page. Search for key phrases associated with the page. A page name is a fiddly thing, so search for significant phrases in a few different ways before you determine it doesn’t exist. Always make sure you check before you set out to create page!
How do I add this page?
If it’s not there, you’ll see it come up in red when you search. Type the page name you want to create in the search bar. Click “Search” to get all the results, and then click on that red link.
Tumblr media
How do I format this page?
You now have an empty page. When I was getting started, my big question was: what should my page look like? Well, Fanlore has templates that can help with that! The templates are in a markup language, but do not fear! Copy and paste the template (everything in the blue box on the template page, typically starting with curly braces), make some updates, and click “Preview.” You can repeat those steps indefinitely until you get the hang of the markup. There’s also a ton of information on the Fanlore.org cheatsheet. (If you’re still confused, keep reading, there’s more specifics under the infobox section.)
Once you have the page created and published, you can edit it without the markup language if you prefer – there’s “Edit,” which gives you a non-code-based option, and an “Edit Source” button, which gives you the code-based option.
Tumblr media
If your proposed page topic doesn’t have an official template created for that topic, you can look up similar pages and see how they’re structured.  If you’re not sure how they managed to make something look a certain way, click the “Edit Source” button and look at the code there to get a sense of what they did. Be sure to cancel out of the edit when you’re done so you don’t make unintentional changes to someone else’s page! Some pages are locked down (like the template pages) so you can’t make edits, but most “normal” pages will have those links at the top so you can dig in and see what’s there and how the people who wrote that page made it look the way it does.
How do I add an infobox?
Those infoboxes on the right of a lot of pages give a quick overview of important information. These are templates, and you can find a list of available infobox templates here.
Tumblr media
The templates, when you click into them, have a heading and some info that you can fill in. You can’t remove items from the template without making a new template, which I don’t recommend trying when you’re getting started. Use the template, fill in the information, and mark “N/A” if you don’t have information to insert in a specific field. A sample template for an infobox looks like this, and you fill in information after each “equals” sign. You can add a list, and you can add links to these after the equals sign using the markup for internal and external links on the Cheatsheet.
{{FanProfile |name=  |alias(es)= |type= |fandoms= |communities= |other= |url= }}
If you’re still confused, let’s go to Astolat’s fan page and click “Edit Source” and see how the infobox looks behind the scenes:
Tumblr media
See how everything that was in the original template is still there, there’s just a list of information after the equals sign?
And here’s how it looks formatted:
Tumblr media
How do I categorize this page?
Categories are important because they help Fanlore’s back-end coding group pages together so people can find the page you’ve created and so the page is in the right place in the site map. If you can’t figure it out, though, don’t worry, there are people who will find it and take care of it!
If you have an infobox from a template, this is taken care of.
If you didn’t use an infobox template, you can add a Category to index the page.
Finding a Category can be a little overwhelming. If you have an example page (another page that contains the same type of content as yours), you can scroll to the bottom of that page and see what Category has been assigned to it. You can add that Category to your page by editing the source and adding that category into your page at the bottom with 2 square brackets, like this: [[Category:YourCategory]]
Use “Preview” to make sure you set it up correctly before saving the page.
If you need to find a category and can’t find a good example page, I recommend going to the sitemap, finding what fits your article the best, and clicking into it. Categories are set up in hierarchies, so click through until you find the Category and Subcategory that fits best.
Add it at the very bottom of the page, and it should show up when you preview, at the very bottom of the page.
Tumblr media
How do I add those nifty citation references[1]?
Review theFanlore page on citation formatting for details. The basics are:
Add a blank References heading at the bottom of the page.
Add tags and include the source information.
What is the difference between a citation and an external link? Good question! I don’t know for sure, but the way I’ve been using it, if I make a statement about a thing and I want to direct you to the “proof” (article, webpage, etc), I will use a citation. If there is a thing I’m linking to because it is relevant but not as proof of what I’m saying on the wiki, I will add it as an external link.
Fourth: Don’t Worry
You’ll find there are a lot of instances when you might not be sure what the “right” way is to do whatever it is you’re trying to do. Don’t let that stop you! Do a little research, do your best, and be okay with a learning curve.
The thing about wiki editing in general, and this includes Fanlore, is that it’s a community project, and everyone is doing their best. It’s worthwhile to think about trying to make your pages consistent with other pages where you can, because it will help people who are trying to find what you’re providing. So, poke around similar pages first and look for common trends in how they’re organized, and mimic that for your own page.
All that said, there is very little hierarchy in editors and few rules set in stone. It’s a community site put together by volunteers. You may find that you’ve labeled, referenced, cited, categorized, etc, a page incorrectly, or that you added a page that was already there under another name, or you may have put in a canon page when that’s really not what Fanlore is for. No problem! A page can be reverted to a previous version. It can be removed by a “Gardener” (higher-level editor), or edited by someone else who is more familiar with the inner wiki workings, or you can even tweak it yourself when you learn a better ways to code the page.
There is always a path forward, so get in there and get started!
Happy creating, happy fandom, and welcome!

The Tale of Young Fisher (The Little King)
King Fisher Saga (Part 1)
The kingdom of Patchland used to be part of the galaxy's system until Fluff's father (King Fisher) hid it away... And thus, the kingdom of Patchland became a legend. It was a kingdom where poverty didn't exist, no one ever went hungry, and the people were always happy... It had been lost for ages until a certain pink puffball found their way in. (Kirby's Epic Yarn.)
In the past Patchland itself was never really taken seriously...
It was in the far reaches of the galaxy, the place itself was not technologically advanced, the people had absolutely no fighting ability & very little magic ability. The rest of the galaxy could not take the place seriously. (Plus, it was filled with happy-go-lucky yarned people... so yeah, it was seen as a laughing stock... )
It was something King Tulle (Fisher's father) couldn't accept. He tried so hard to get into the galaxy's inner circle (their ver. paraliment)... he was enamored with joining the big leagues. Tulle convinced his people (& son) that this was necessary for the betterment of everyone in the kingdom. No being able to see that the kingdom was fine & prosperous just the way it was.
While Tulle spent his days trying to get accepted into the elites, ignoring his royal responsibilities.... Leaving a young Prince Fisher in charge of carrying out his father's duties. The people of Patchland... felt sorry for the young prince... while Tulle was their king in name, the citizens saw Fisher as their true king. (They knew who was really taking care of them.)
Fisher tried his best to get his father's love & validation by being the dutiful son. He even used all his resources to learn magic (self-taught light mage) in hopes of impressing his father, but he was never going to get it. King Tulle only saw Fisher as his successor... nothing more. King Tulle quite literally died trying... (ignoring his health & well-being).
And thus, it passed down his ambitions to Fisher... who felt that it was his duty to finish his father's unfinished work. Fisher tirelessly studied the culture of other planets & galaxies to find a way to make the Galactic Council see Patchland's worthiness.
Which was difficult because each planet had its own different set of values & virtues he needed something big to please all of them. And realized the one they all had in common was money.
Patchland had an untapped source of raw crystals and materials (cloth & such). Which held a bit of magic in them. So he figured the best way was marketing & trade. He created a series of enchanted fabrics and cloth he'd marked off.
(Ex. capes that would increase HP, a coat of chain mail to increase defense, etc.)
King Fisher was a brilliant businessman; he slowly introduced his product into the galaxy & mapped it out to trickle down to the top. (Basically a self-made man.) Eventually, getting supporters who wanted to move his products, creating the galactic trade route.
Patchland's exports and goods became extremely popular. And now the higher-up planets that once looked down on his little humble star system wanted to trade with them. Causing to sees him & his people to be seen in a new light.
Seeing his homeland as something to be admired, "Wow. Patchland must be a great place..." The people had long accepted that they weren't the most advanced corner of that galaxy (which they were fine with...) But now... the citizens of Patchland feel a sense of pride in themselves.
Fisher felt that this was all the recognition needed; after all those wretched days alone, studying & working on his craft had finally paid off... Seeing the confidence and self-worth it brought to his people... the joy it brought them.
(Navievly Fisher thought "this was what his father was talking about in what the kingdom need... " Well, It wasn't... truthfully Tulle sought glory for himself, while Fisher did it for his people & his father(Tulle)...
Fisher couldn't help but imagine what'd be like once he was able to secure a place in the elite council. The joy it would bring to him and his people... (well, it wouldn't.)
Then, the war with Nightmare broke out & soon, the galactic council & the GSA approached Fisher...They offered him a seat in the government should he choose to get involved and fund their efforts. Raising his kingdom's status (as well as his own), along with turning a profit for his goods to a wider market on a galactic scale. And protection from Nigthmare's forces as well... giving his kingdom top priority! Basically, he became the master of the coin... (Game of Thrones ref.)
He had finally accomplished what his father's dream... But at a cost.
These higher-ups didn't just want his products. The upper crusts of the galaxy were using Fisher's trade route to smuggle goods and would hide them in the fabrics he traded with. And not only that but weapons as well...
When Fisher first raised concerns his colleagues merely said, "This is just how the world works... you wanna fit in don't you..." There was an underlying fear this could all his success easily taken away. He knew far too well that they only valued him & his kingdom could give them.
Foolishly optimistic, he thought, "I'm sure it's for good reason" or "We're in a war, it makes sense..." He had worked so hard for this for so long that he just couldn't risk this. Soon, his passion project... became more of a smuggling operation.
Of course, Fisher felt guilty... at first, but it was all drowned out the more & more he did it. He was enamored and captivated by this new life at the top. Being swayed by their compliments & sweet words, he started willingly to impress his new peers. The praise he was getting (even more than his own father did...), how could he refuse.
Slowly, forgetting the values of virtues and the kind nature of his kingdom. He became jaded, losing his gratification for his work... the more his business became... a business. Back then, Fisher was truly at his happiest when he saw his work bring smiles to others... but now work was just work.
Despite this, Fisher still remained a great king... Some of the people in his kingdom were worried about getting involved with outer planets, but that all changed when the war with Nightmare started... His people weren't fighters... and Nightmare was coming after everyone in the galaxy. Making the citizens of Patchland nervous... they'd be slaughtered for sure! Then, when Fisher presented them with outside protection... with the new title he gained, and all their worries from before vanished.
"Wow, we shouldn't have doubted our king, he knows what he's doing!"
Plus, he had been looking after them since he was a child; Fisher was just doing what he had to for their kingdom.
The people were happy, but they started to notice their king would spend less time in his own home. But every time he did he showed them a (fake) smiling face, and everything was fine: he was just doing fine (he was just dying on the inside). And so the people were blissfully unaware of it all. They were happy, untouched by the war,... not knowing their once good-natured beloved king was lost in the world of the corrupt and greedy.
To be continued...
King Tulle's obsession with getting to the elites comes from a place of wanting to "prove them wrong" mentality. I also wanted to show how (in KBASW)... if your star system was considered unadvanced you're shunned from society.
Named Fluff's grandfather Tulle because... he's a tool.
Fisher's corruption is very similar to the Onceler from the Lorax movie. (And yes, I used Onceler simp in my middle school years... please don't judge.)
A well-meaning, adorkable, sweet boy... becomes a greedy, selfish man who sells his soul & morals to get recognition. But unlike the Onceler... There is no joy in it... become rather lifeless going through the motions. (similar to his Arthurian counterpart Fisher, King during his time of being injured...)
Very much based him on Robin Williams's telling of the Fisher King.
youtube
(Plus, I love this movie so much...)
Truthfully, he has the same journey as P.T. from The Greatest Showman. That's why Fisher's Theme is "From Now On."
Fisher learns his lesson just in time... which will be in part two.
(The Grand Escape of King Fisher & the Crowning of a Fool)
Stay Tuned~

hellsing werewolves fanlore
- unlike vampires, there are no conditions (such as virginity or gender) to turning someone into a werewolf
- the bite scars very slowly, and permanently stays a dark red mark instead of the usual skin-like tone
- the bite is terribly painful, but the curse can be avoided if the bitten body part is cut off with a silver blade before the transformation process starts
- the reason they’re so rare when the curse is so easily transmitted is because most people die during the transformation process; it can take over a week of excruciating pain for the body to fully adapt, during which the signature abilities are gained; however if the person is weak or sickly, they will most likely die because of the sudden changes
- the newly turned person will be bedridden for up to two weeks during the transformation, during which their hunger and mental state will go out of control without enough willpower
- the person stops aging once they’ve gotten a taste of their first human flesh
- the instincts change during the process ; for a person to stay "themselves" during and after it they have to have an undying human spirit
- the size of the wolf form varies from person to person
- the full moon is only a power boost
- holy items are no use against them, but silver is deadly and scars them permanently
- physical traits that change after the transformation include : body pilosity, teeth shape, eye color and iris shape, ear shape, fat/muscle mass
- human meat is more nutritious to them, if they don’t eat it enough they can become weaker
- silver through the heart is the one true way to kill a werewolf; a shot to the head will slow it down tremendously, but its body will heal slowly if not properly disposed of (one knows the werewolf died for sure if they erupt in blue flames like vampires and other undead do in the series)

fuck it, new monolithic lumian homeplanet script
this time, not just totally random shapes, but actually designed with purpose; this script is vaguely inspired by patterns found in mold and algae, which are things associated with bio-luminescent caves, where my version of the race evolved within.
also somewhat repurposed methods from my initial lumian language script

Hi! On your site you mention this zine being in the tradition of great Spock/McCoy zines of the past. Would you be willing to share what those zines were so I can google for them? I'm very new to Trek zines but would love to learn more. Thanks!
Hi anon!
Happy to. Here's a brief history for you.
The longest running Spones zine was @spicedpeacheszine run by Tempest, which ran more or less without interruption from 2005-2019. There were also other zines earlier (before the 2000s) that were usually combined with other ships, but Spiced Peaches was the first and only Spones-only zine I am aware of. You can read about the history of Spiced Peaches on Fanlore, and check out the history of other older zines on the TOS Spock/McCoy Fanlore page.
Of course if I am missing something, please let me know in the replies. I'm one of the editors for the Fanlore pages so if there is a scrap of Spones fandom history that is missing there, I definitely want to know about it. :-) Thanks for the question! - Mod Elian
