It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

In all the times Jemma had imagined her post-Hydra reunion with Fitz, she’d run through the full gamut of emotions. She’d pictured everything from smiles and embraces to anger and shouting. On her loneliest nights, she imagined being swept up into a kiss of joy. When she was feeling more pragmatic, she told herself she shouldn’t expect it to be all rainbows and sunshine. It couldn’t be, not with the circumstances of her mission.

But she’d never guessed the actual reality of it: an awkward hello, Fitz avoiding her gaze, then a silence that stretched into painful emptiness before he begged off to go back to work. Stunned and hurt, Jemma had watched him disappear into the depths of the lab while a gulf opened up inside her heart, taking any hope for a happy reunion she’d had with it.

Before I asked if anyone else would be interested in the @fsadventanthology (and found out that there's a lot of people interested in it), I was planning to write a 24-chapter Four Swords AU, with one chapter being posted every day of Advent. This plan was scrapped when more people got involved, but the idea for the AU stayed with me, so here's some doodles while I work on writing more than one incomplete chapter for the actual thing:

Top right: Red going out for dinner with Blue, and his younger half-sisters demanded to do his hair

Middle left: Red's primary mode of transport (when he can't get the bus) is his motorcycle

Bottom right: Red is almost always listening to music (except for when he's sleeping or painting), and his hair can be classified as A Complete Mess

I've thought way too much about this AU, and may or may not have the better part of an entire plot planned out, so feel free to throw some questions at me!!

Remember when I said that I get distracted by inspiration? Oops have a BNHA FS AU. Don't take this too seriously. cabinet man au thoughts i've been having while working on stuff

cole really becomes jay's grounding point physically and mentally, being the more rational one when jay's flying off the handle while also being able to ground his lightning without experiencing shocks

we're going to delve into kai's character more during the first part of secrets of the FS and he's actually going to have. an arc. and not just "man his fire got yoinked oopsie"

thanks to morro a lot of events are getting changed simply because He's There

speaking of morro i think i accidentally made him?? a key foil to nadakhan in skybound???? i don't know how that happened

echo and morro Will Interact and it'll be gay

some seasons will barely have changes to the events like Hunted and Master of the Mountain so the biggest challenge will be making those seasons entertaining to read about without being repetitive, likely by showing jay's unique perspective on things given that a lot of those seasons aren't very jay-centric aside from key points

delving into the ninja as celebrity type figures is fun and leads to chaos

the overlord is Very Important to this story i'm not elaborating further (unless people ask in which i will be Vague and Ominous huehue)

I got an ad for joining the NPS for a summer job, and maybe I read fire watch au too recently because my first thought was “you want me to do that? Grian did and look what happened. He found the dead body of his best friend and nearly died in a wildfire”

i always find it so funny whenever people send me an ask or write a review that to some effect implies i scared them off of hiking/camping/backpacking/seasonal jobs because honestly the entirety of Firewatch AU is written with the context that me, the author, is someone who is barely holding themselves back from applying to every NPS or FS job listing on USAjobs because I already have a job. every now and then i haunt the job listings for fun

Anyway to be absolutely fair, Scar did that for like 8 years and never had any of this happen to him, so maybe Grian's just the unlucky one LOL

elaborating on what i will now call the susie save your love au‼️

sort of inspired by @faunshii and their art of s1 robin bc it absolutely works w this idea! pls check them out they’re so awesome😭

but! the idea is that robin and nancy become friends in season 1, teaming up to find barb since they were both her friend. in this scenario robin basically replaces jonathan, who’s on his own hunting for will instead of teaming up with nancy. i think they collaborate sometimes but main pairing is ronance fs

this shifts their dynamic slightly! nancy isn’t stretched so thin when she meets robin and they bond over mutual worry, robin’s rambling is a comfort to nancy way sooner and she readily accepts liking robin, grateful to have a friend especially after barb is confirmed to be dead. when nancy narrowly escapes the upside down robin stays to comfort her just like jonathan did, but this time steve doesn’t assume nancy is cheating bc its the 80s and girls can’t love girls. (DISCLAIMER i dont think nancy ever cheated on steve its what he assumes)

he ends up getting tied into all of it anyways when he tries to find out what nancy is being so secretive about and why she’s talking to robin buckley of all people and its the near the same scene (why r jonathan and robin so similar hold on) and by the end of s1 robin is head over heels for nancy wheeler who hates the nuclear family and is really good with guns. nancy is also enamored with robin but it sorta terrifies her that she seems to have romantic feelings for another girl (nancy is NOT oblivious she’s just scared) so she clings onto steve and their safe relationship.

this is where susie save your love comes in. nancy is really struggling with steve, he keeps trying to get her to forget about barb, he keeps dismissing her grief, she doesn’t even see him the same anymore, or perhaps she was thinking more clearly about the way she saw him. either way, she’s struggling, and the only solace she finds is spending time with robin, who just gets it, and gets her, and ends up inviting robin to come with her hoping to some stupid halloween party to maybe unite the way she feels around robin (so happy) with these social events.

and she obviously gets fucking drunk when robin isn’t there (as far as she knows)

and THEN gets into The Fight with steve and then

When Jemma awoke the next morning, she was the most relaxed, warm, and comfortable she could remember being in a long time. Well, that was a lie, she thought the more her brain came online. She’d started feeling this rested once she’d started sharing a bed with Fitz. Just, this morning, there was a completely new component to it: they were both naked, and they’d shifted in the night so Fitz was spooned tight against her back, all of his warm, bare skin pressed to hers. It was the height of luxury, as far as Jemma was concerned. The only thing that could possibly make it better was if they were in some large canopy bed with sunlight streaming in through French doors that led out to some paradise destination. But she would take what she could get. 

Jemma felt content to lay in Fitz’s arms for a long time and just doze, but unfortunately nature called. Carefully, doing her best not to jostle or wake him, she extracted herself from his hold and rose from bed to go to the ensuite.

When she returned, Fitz had rolled onto his back and was still deep asleep. She smiled and shook her head. They’d only been sharing a bed for a short while, but she was half-convinced it would take a bomb to wake him up some mornings.

General Story Synopsis:

Somewhere outside of time, the golden goddesses fued. A cycle of no end plagues their souls after they have let it push on across time and space alike. One of hatred, blood, and spirit; one of light and shadow. The goddess Din plots to destroy it all, at odds with her sister, Farore, who wishes rather to destroy the evil. Nayru, who trusts in the balance of the eternal struggle, proposes a solution. She will allow Din to put the worlds created by different ripples of time to the test. Din shall choose to revive a single puppet, and they will set the determining factors of the universe's fate into motion. She makes her choice, and Nayru begins with her work.

In a world still set in the era of A Link Between Worlds, a fabric is once more torn between realities. However, this is one far greater than anything before. It tears through time itself; a power only previously carried to the mortal world by Hylia herself. At the same time, an evil sealed away in this realm returns to life. The fused beast from light and dark worlds alike attempts to take control of the head-start the goddesses have given it; but there is no telling what the crack in reality may cause for existence now.

Premise:

The general idea for the AU is to focus on the narrative themes of The Legend of Zelda games, as well as Demise's Curse. It will heavily focus on the bond between Link and Zelda across lifetimes, and how their loyalty to one another affects the fate of Hyrule and those who live there.

Extra Notes:

I intend to focus on the Links and Zeldas equally, as a big part of the story refers to their relationship in the grand scheme of like... the entire universe. This falls under the idea that every incarnation is a reincarnated form of a singular spirit and goddess.

Certain unnamed heroes from the games are given proper backstory and titles.

The two Zeldas in LoZ and AoL are combined into one Zelda; more on how the Hero of Hyrule's story goes later.

Some events in the games may be slightly dramatacized or combined with elements from their respective manga. More on this later.

While I will be using headcanons for post-game, I am making it my goal not to do so excessively. I like my canon compliancy, sometimes. I will mostly only use headcanons to fill in plot/character gaps or make sense of timeline.

A lot of posts will just be designs and ideas dumping early on. Comics are hard, I'm afraid. :')

Henry saw El at the rink and then looked at both Brenner and Jim like: She’s my daughter now. Grand Theft Offspring.

Jim doesn't go in the kiss-and-cry booth much anymore due to the combination of unpredictable subjective point totals and his own unpredictable temper when he thinks a score is unfair. He’s upset on El’s behalf, he loves her, it’s just unnecessarily stressful for everyone involved. The kiss-and-cry booth tends to be Henry's territory, since he's more accustomed to dealing with the Everything about it. (In addition: Scott “it was totally political” Clarke makes an appearance rink-side)

Henry “You are better than they are. Superior.” Creel makes an appearance in the context of “Your competitors and their coaches, they want you to feel like you’re less-than. Don’t let them.” after El gets shoved around by a few of Brenner’s other students at Junior Nationals.

This was the same Junior Nationals where Brenner tried to “reconnect” with El after seeing her success at the previous competition. El isn’t having it, but having a big public blowout is not the way to handle things you Don’t Like in FS. That can kill your subjective scoring. Henry, more than aware of this and only somewhat afraid of Brenner after years of Fixing His Damage, catches him rink-side during warmups. He only has 10 whispered words for Brenner, the first he’s spoken directly to the man since The Injury: Come near her again, and I will kill you. Brenner’s half-convinced he means it literally. It was said so quietly that none of the surrounding cameras picked it up. Oh, how the tables have turned on the concept of “our little secret”.

Victor also wanted Henry to play hockey back in the day (because he played hockey as a boy and enjoyed spending time/having a shared hobby with Henry), but after watching little 8 year old Henry at hockey practice for One (1) hour, he went hm...maybe not. Victor “loves his son so much” Creel 100% supported Henry getting into FS instead (no one could have predicted the shitshow it would spiral into).

The Injury (pulled from Henry’s head injury in the canon electrocution scene) left Henry with a sick silver streak on his left side where they put the titanium plate in. The Party has a running joke that he looks like a supervillain because of it.

Henry stuck with Brenner from age 12 to about age 30, something of an unwritten record for a coach-athlete relationship. He only stuck with him so long because Brenner had secrets to leverage over him/had backed him into the “I’m the only one willing to have you” corner by building his cold/unfeeling/hard to work with persona.

Brenner 100% tries to cover his ass later by trying to paint Henry as a troublemaker, that really, if you think about it isn’t he the victim here, having put so much time and effort into Henry only to have him squander it by lashing out the moment he realized there might be a new winner? That little façade lasts a good long while, right up until Henry’s case is reopened and the truth of the matter comes out. The reader can fill in whatever blanks they want about what, exactly, was brought to light. The details aren’t super important atp!

El totally whoops ass at Junior Nationals, btw. She wipes the floor with all of Brenner’s newest round of students. If Henry’s a touch smug about it…well. Why shouldn’t he be?

In his day, Henry 100% had Yuzuru Hanyu style outfits, typically in some sort of white/grey/blue. Practice and coaching outfits run more along the lines of black pants and white sweaters/turtlenecks. (Scott is appreciative. If you've ever seen the pics of Yuzuru Hanyu's practice fits...you get it)

Brenner is the kind of coach to subtly rag on you from the boards. Henry is the type to actually demonstrate the skill he expects you to perform. (That’s canon, actually, shdhsjdhsj)

El's pink dress outfit from Season 1 is one of her first competition outfits. Yes, it's still a hand-me-down from Nancy. Yes, she still looks absolutely adorable. Yes, Henry's hovering behind her like a demon, daring anyone to so much as breathe wrong near her.
