not me over here thinking about how Ace and Luffy probably made a makeshift grave for Sabo even though they didn’t have his body. like maybe they piled together some rocks and small boulders and stuck a stick in the middle with his little S and crossbones flag attached to it. and they would visit it every now and then, maybe on his birthday, and leave food offerings or drawings and stuff. maybe Makino would bring flowers and maybe Dadan would pour out a little sake over it.
then when Ace died, Dadan and her bandits and Makino probably made a grave for Ace right beside of it on the mountain even though Ace is buried in the New World beside Whitebeard but they still wanted to have a place for him near Sabo. it's a similar grave of a pile of rocks and his Spade pirate jolly roger on a stick and they visit it sometimes.
and maybe when Luffy dies they will make a grave for him there too. I imagine the Straw Hats would probably bury his body in the New World or whatever island he dies on. but Dadan and Makino and Mayor Slap build yet another makeshift grave for him right there beside Ace's and Sabo's. again with the Straw Hat flag flying above it.
so it’s just three empty graves beside each other in a clearing on the mountain and none of the brothers will ever know that these graves exist for them. Ace and Luffy of course know about Sabo's but they will never know about their own, and Sabo doesn't know about any of them.
I just feel some type of way about the ASL Brothers having graves beside each other on Mount Corvo but their actual bodies being buried far away from each other.
in death, they are both together and apart.
I just think it would be neat :)

Ooh would you write a sequel to the one where Luffy tells the crew about Sabo and paints their flag, then Robin goes and calls Sabo to come n visit them??? 💕
sequel to this
x
Luffy is holding his hand so hard it’s beginning to hurt, but it doesn’t even cross Usopp’s mind to let go.
The man who boards them looks nothing like Luffy, or even Usopp’s memories of Ace. He’s very pale and fair-haired, with a graceful, willowy sort of frame that Usopp’s storyteller mind leaps to associate with princes and castles.
The man looks extremely nervous. He holds himself absolutely still with picture-perfect posture, like it was something drilled into him at a young age. Once his eyes find Luffy, they don’t look anywhere else.
He came alone. The solitary figure he strikes on the opposite side of the deck tugs at Usopp’s heart.
Robin makes a disapproving sound under her breath when he stays rooted where he’s at and strides across the grass to meet him.
“Sabo,” she greets him, holding out her hands. He seizes them with equal parts gratitude and desperation but he still doesn’t look at her.
Next to him, clustered as close as they are together, Usopp feels the jolt go through Luffy like a surge of electricity.
It was the name, Usopp thinks. None of them have said it out loud since that shocking conversation with Robin, which Luffy had absorbed without speaking for four very long minutes before bolting from the room to hide with Sunny on the figurehead for the rest of the afternoon.
Usopp tries to imagine being told his mother was alive, after growing up and apart from her for half his life. He tries to imagine the shock and disbelief, and how it would fold slowly into reluctant hope, and how much it would hurt to claw open a wound that’s ten years healed and how ready he would be to do exactly that if there was even a chance he might see her again.
Luffy lost Ace two years ago. It happened right in front of him. It happened in the worst, most traumatizing way it possibly could have. And it happened when his crew had been forced apart and flung to the far corners of the world and he was left to bear that impossible grief all alone.
Take care of him for me, Ace had said, smiling with his teeth beneath an unrelenting desert sun, all reds and golds and warmth.
Usopp holds Luffy’s hand tighter, the rubber skin and bones compressing in a familiar way beneath the unrelenting grip of his fingers.
The morning after The Conversation With Robin, all of them packed around a breakfast table laden with hearty biscuits and gravy, strip steak and eggs, and cinnamon rolls the size of their heads—Sanji’s unspoken spoiling of their captain after the previous afternoon’s bombshell; he even let Luffy try his coffee, which never fucking happens. They were all poised to do and say and be exactly what their captain needed, if he’d only give them a cue.
Luffy, for his part, breezed into the galley bright and early, like it was any other day, and he hadn't spent all of last night all by himself. He called out cheerful greetings, tussled playfully with Zoro, fought with Franky over the spicy potato hash, filled his plate, and then, in the red flag of all red flags, ate exactly zero bites of food before turning to Robin.
“Hey, Robin,” he said, “why didn’t Sabo come find me?”
The only sound in the kitchen was the unobtrusive steaming from the medley of pans on the stovetop and the sharp clunk of the glass Nami accidentally set down too hard.
Robin smiled at Luffy, the special way she smiled that was reserved solely for him. She grew an extra hand and nudged his plate towards him.
“I told you, captain,” she said. “He had amnesia. The only thing he remembered from his childhood was his desperation not to return to Goa Kingdom.”
“Retrograde amnesia is a medical condition,” Chopper piped up, desperate to be helpful. He’d been on the edge of his seat all morning, ready to fly to Luffy at the first tiniest indication that he should. “Several different things can cause it, like disease or injury, but it sounds like S—like his memory loss was probably caused by trauma.”
“Yeah,” Luffy said easily, accepting what they told him without question. He scooted food around on his otherwise untouched plate, expression giving nothing away. “But after that. Robin said that seeing Ace in the newspaper made him remember. That was two years ago.”
Dread sank in Usopp’s stomach like a stone. He glanced quickly around the table and found his friends’ faces mirroring what his own probably looked like.
“He didn’t come find me,” Luffy said. “Does he hate me?”
“No,” Zoro said at once, his tone a guarantee that it would be the last thing Sabo ever did if it was true.
“Why would you think that?” Sanji forced out between gritted teeth.
“Because I let Ace die,” their captain said frankly. “He was right in front of me and I couldn't save him. Now Sabo doesn’t want to see me.”
Everyone started talking at once, and Chopper upset his apple juice in his scramble to finally fling himself into Luffy’s arms, and Usopp decided that getting his ass beat by Mr. 4 and Miss Christmas hurt a hell of a lot less than this.
Robin rose gracefully and rounded the table. An extra arm bloomed out of the table to grip the back of Luffy’s chair and wrench it around, facing it towards her.
She kneeled and took his hands, and then her wrists grew hands so that she could hold Chopper’s little hooves too. But her eyes were all for Luffy when she said, “He loves you. He’s making a better world for you.”
Luffy stared back at her and finally his blank expression cracked. His mouth twisted a little, brows furrowing above shiny brown eyes.
“Then why didn’t he come?”
“Because despite your separation, you two are more alike than anyone could have guessed,” Robin said warmly. “And he’s afraid you hate him, too.”
And now they’re both here, standing beneath the cloudy sky, and Luffy—wild, relentless, unassuming Luffy—doesn’t seem to know what to do. He’s always the one who makes the first move, who barrels right in with a noisy laugh, but instead he just clutches at Usopp’s hand and presses his opposite shoulder into Zoro’s and drinks in the sight of the man across the deck.
Studying him, Usopp realizes. Recognizing him.
Then Luffy blinks, and the wetness in his eyes falls down his cheeks, and the blond man jerks like he’s been punched in the gut.
“I, um,” he says, digging hastily into one of his inner coat pockets, “I brought you something.”
He tosses the gift over and Luffy lets go of Usopp’s hand to catch it. It turns out to be an old brass monocular telescope, shining dully in Luffy’s hands. Worn and scuffed in quite a few places, easily decades old. Luffy studies it very quietly.
“All of my things were lost when my ship was shot down,” the man says. “Nothing could be salvaged. But that was in my pocket. It must have been important if it was the only thing I was carrying with me, so I kept it all these years.”
He tries on a smile. It pulls at the side of his face discolored and puckered by burn scars. It seems like a miracle he’s standing there and smiling at all.
“You wanted a telescope when we were kids, remember? I finally brought you one. I’m sorry it took me so long.”
“Sabo took forever,” Luffy says. He sounds young.
It’s the way he sounded in Alabasta, when Ace showed up and interjected himself in the chase between the Straw Hats and Smoker’s men—like it was his body’s natural response to plant itself like a tree between Luffy and whatever danger was behind him. Luffy ran away laughing, bright and untroubled and certain of his safety.
Peak little sibling energy, Usopp had later thought wryly. It explained so much of who his captain was as a person to know he was the baby of his family of monsters and mad men.
Luffy sounds that way now, his face all screwed up, blotchy and streaked with tears.
“He took forever,” he says again, emphatic and bewildered and hurt. “I missed him so much and he was too busy being stupid to come tell me he’s alive. I thought—”
Robin steps out of the way in time to avoid being trampled when their guest moves the way a missile shot from a cannon moves. Luffy lurches forward, too, but he doesn’t have time to make it a single step before he’s being snatched up in bigger arms and hauled into an embrace that looks like it might leave a bruise. One gloved hand on the back of Luffy’s head cradles it against a broad shoulder and the other grips the back of Luffy’s jacket hard enough it starts to tear.
“Robin told me,” the man gasps, like he’s not getting enough air. “I don’t hate you, how could I hate you? You’re my brother. I’m so—I’m so grateful you survived, Lu. I don’t know what I would have done if you—if—”
He can’t say it, can’t speak the words into existence, as if the world would be a dark, unlivable place if Luffy weren’t in it. In that instant, Usopp understands this stranger completely.
Sabo pulls back, but only so he can hold Luffy’s head in his hands. Luffy goes on tiptoe to knock their foreheads together, a gesture Usopp has seen him do with his nakama, and always chalked up to Luffy’s weird feral energy. It’s a gesture that makes Sabo’s next breath sound like a sob. Or maybe a laugh.
Luffy laughs with him, wet and choked. Neither of them are self-conscious about the state of themselves. They sit right there, a graceless collapse into the warm grass, somewhat on top of each other like clumsy, half-grown wolf cubs.
Usopp feels a weight lifted. He thinks he must be smiling like an absolute idiot and his own eyes are definitely damp, but he’s unselfconscious, too. A person learns a thing or two about what appearances actually matter, sailing with this crew. And tears come easily when you live honestly, the way Luffy always has.
He’s rattling at a million words a minute now, speaking in an Eastern language Usopp is unfamiliar with—probably a regional dialect from the island he grew up on.
Sabo follows along effortlessly, interjecting now and then in the same language, but content, for the most part, just to listen to his little brother talk.
He absorbs every second of Luffy’s presence the same needy way plants unfurl to soak up sunlight.

i’m back to say that magnificent was so so so good!! i love the uta mihawk interactions and how mihawk wants to protect her. i think my favorite part though was when mihawk was talking to shanks all nervous about whether he could call uta his daughter, but shanks answers with an “of course.”
this fic made me wonder why mihawk would do if he was present during the one piece film red… would he come along with the red crew, or would he already be there like the others (luffy, law, etc)?
awh 💖💖 thank u for your continued support! it means a lot :') and im happy you enjoyed the fic haha 🥰
UH, long answer short: i kind of have headcanons that position him before, during, and after the movie hahaha. sorry this reply turned out longer than i expected but my brain's got a mihawk & uta agenda goin' on rn. 😂 thanks again for the ask! ➡️
i actually have a bit of a draft going of mihawk seeing the "shanks destroys elegia" headline, seeing what's up, and finding uta, which i started before i wrote up magnificent lol. that's kinda where i picture him--doing something before everything happens, bc his curiosity makes him wonder why shanks would do smthg so uncharacteristic.
i recognize that's kind of a cop-out answer tho LOL so in regards to the movie itself in the canon(ish) timeline, i imagine he'd probably be there beforehand like luffy etc. he'd be there bc buggy and his crew got tickets and he was somehow dragged there against his will (similar to how law says he's chaperoning bepo but a lot more antagonistic about it aha), probably bc croc decides it might be beneficial to go, for whatever reason. probably scoping the crowd. (pls imagine the cross guild at uta's concert garnering Looks and standing out very obviously, but no one wants to say anything about it LOL even if the crowd is very anti-pirate. like, the strawhats and soen charlottes were there so. why not some ex-warlords?)
when there, he'd be like, "hey wait isn't that shanks's kid? didn't he say she left to sing? huh." and then maybe possibly even dial shanks on his baby den den about it bc if he's the type to bring luffy's poster all the way to an island, he'd probably try to ring up shanks. then he wouldn't be able to connect and clock that something is Up bc he knows shanks is just kinda hanging on his ship rn, on his way out from wano. i dont think he'd be with shanks along with his crew, and i dont think he'd bother going after the fact to help if he wasn't there to start with, which is why i think he'd already be there for separate reasons. ;P
anyways, i also have the start of an idea where the movie happens but uta survives, and shanks, stressed, is like, "hey, y'know what, everything's ramping up and everyone's trying to kill uta and she's still recovering from this wakeshroom shit so she'd probably be safer on land but the marines will be looking for all my known close associates... i'm gonna drop her off with mihawk. he trained those two other kids and the misanthropic fucker (affectionate) has probably found a new island by now anyways, since he isn't a warlord anymore. it should be fine. he'll say yes."
he sets out with his crew to follow mihawk's vivre card. benn and yasopp get the news coo and start laughing about something but they don't tell him, and whatever, he's going to see mihawk soon. he's definitely being led to land, which makes him feel vindicated, until it becomes more and more clear that the structure standing out on the shore is a huge big top tent, and there's an unfortunately very familiar flag flying, and shanks is like, "oh god, don't tell me," and then promptly has to dodge a flying fist and yelling about how he isn't welcome here and what the fuck is mihawk doing with buggy???? and benn and yasopp, having seen the cross guild poster in the news and hidden it from shanks, are laughing so hard at him while he deals with this momentary crisis where two completely different parts of his life have seem to connected without his knowing about it.
(buggy is happy to see uta bc for all that they fight shanks and buggy did make some sort of effort with their brotherhood every now and then so he knows uta and she calls him "uncle bugs"!; mihawk ofc says "yes" to taking care of her bc he feels qualified to handle young adults now lol (he says this with an air of gravitas that is hilarious when considering how he interacts with zoro and perona, which is stoically and poorly); uta makes fun of her dad relentlessly for not having made any moves on the guy he's been in a situationship with since she was a literal child; and croc comes home from a meeting to find international pop sensation uta (that the news said tried to take over the world during her concert or something???) reclined on their couch drinking tea. wild day for everyone.)

I'm trying to explain to my fiance one what I mean when I say Law definitively, but probably Kid and other pirate captains Luffy declares are his friends aren't part of Luffy's crew but they are part of his fleet.
And basically I've decided on that it's like after Luffy becomes Pirate King they (Law, probably Kid, etc) still fly their ships under their own flag but they have a Strawhat Roger. And people learn that if they see they are flying the Strawhat Roger (likely next to their own) it means they're going to war.

✨️Reading One Piece with my Dofladile goggles on✨️
(My English is kinda trash)
Let's start with these amazing panels
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahhh yes Doflamingo kicking Luffy around while talking about Crocodile being defeated because of him.
Now let's go back to the first time we saw doflamingo...
Tumblr media
"Let's discuss what we came here to discuss...Fufufufu! And quickly wrap up this meeting"
He was in marijoa literally bullying the marines to start the meeting, he wanted to know what happened.
Then he says..
Tumblr media
"I wasn't planning to come either, but my business has been going so smoothly as of late, I came here out of boredom"
Hmmmm idk that sounds very sus, he is obviously obsessed he was literally going through the bounties until he saw Luffy's bounty and decided it was him.
Of course he's going to attend the meeting to know what is going on..
And ...
what made me make this post in the first place is this..
Tumblr media
Why did He go to jaya???? The island the Strawhats went to right after Alabasta🤨
Was he fucking chasing after Luffy???
He came from dressrosa (in the new world)-> to marijoa to attend the meeting -> (then after he became sure it's luffy he literally flied across half of the world through sabaody, water 7 and all those islands) -> to reach Jaya
And if you read the page you can conclude that doflamingo probably called bellamy with a din din mushi to tell him to just kick the strawhats out, and not fight them (he knew Bellamy would lose), and if bellamy lost, doflamingo will kill him for humiliating doflamingo's flag, that was the agreement we learned about in dressrosa, he spared him here...
Now why did doflamingo tell him to just leave the strawhats alone, and yet come to jaya running??? I'm just picturing him really mad, flying over the clouds like that scene in punk hazard, and planning to take revenge on luffy himself😂 especially since luffy is a D too.
And when bellamy said: "If I merely kicked them out... they will get to your position eventually"
Doflamingo replied: "That is very thoughtful of you my royal follower. I like that.."
And started talking about the new era and shit, did he decide to wait for Luffy to come to him instead???
Marineford
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Current and former Shichibukai all gathered here...fufufu"
He was very excited to see Crocodile again 🥰
And finally the fated reunion..
Tumblr media
LOOK AT HIM
Tumblr media
He even helped Croc by stopping jozu🥰
Tumblr media
And started flirting OMG DOFFY CALM DOWN
Tumblr media
There's just something about this exchange, it feels very... out of place, everyone around them fighting while they're standing in the middle of the battle field flirting and having a friendly conversation in front of white beard's ship, and doflamingo inviting crocodile to team up against white beard to bring the new era, since everyone knows croc has a grudge against him.
and I think this is the only time we see crocodile smile in this arc, the exchange ends with him being a tsundere as usual which is great, I also feel like this shows they knew each other from a time back when they were rookies, they were both at lougetown the day of Roger's execution, so they probably go waaay back.
So when crocodile switched sides, and started helping white beard (the symbol of the old era) against the government, doflamingo got mad..
Tumblr media
Now why the hell is doflamingo focusing on crocodile this much???
What is Oda thinking?? What exactly is their relationship?
I hope we have a similar scene after doffy breaks out from prison, but in reverse with crocodile asking doffy how he found the bath of blood, and Then doflamingo asking to join cross guild (basically begging to be his subordinate like crocodile said), that would be awesome foreshadowing.
Then they would be working together ushering in the new era for real this time!! Maybe With moria and mihawk too!! They were all at Roger's execution after all, but now they're all fighting against the world government, while in marineford crocodile was the only one on whitebeard's side, while doffy, mihawk, and moria were fighting on behalf the world government.

i'm 88 episodes in to one piece now and. yeah Luffy might be one of my favorite characters in anything ever. i didn't like him that much at the beginning, he was annoying and kind of an asshole, but as time passes i'm just like. god. this guy loves his friends SOO much!! and not just them!! he just cares about people!!!
like this current arc (with Nami's sickness and Dr Kureha and Chopper) is showing it off over and over again. he's dropping everything to save Nami, and later Sanji (climbing up a cliff until his hands and feet are bleeding just for the chance to save both of them!! come on!!) those rabbit monsters were doing nothing but making his and Sanji's trip harder but he sees a young one crying for its parent and he doesn't say a word, he just helps, immediately. he barely knows Chopper, doesn't know anything about Chopper's past, but he sees that this pirate flag means something to him and risks everything to keep it flying.
this boy just has so much love in him and it makes me crazy!!!!!

New Episode!
Wandering Star, Episode 4: The Dark Side of the Moon is now up! You can read it here!
Tumblr media
The first three episodes were essentially set-up, so we're really getting things started with this one! Hope you like!
Under the cut is a sample from the start of the episode:
Red and luxurious, the spanning love hotel hallway was quiet.
But that peace was shattered by one of the room doors flying open, jerking back when it was overextended on its hinges as Carmen stormed out with a scowl. Kid shouldered the shutting door on his mad way after her, his captain’s coat still in hand. Killer hurried to keep up with his captain, but the other three weren’t in such a rush – Law least of all.
Carmen took a sharp right where Heat and Wire were just rounding the corner with a couple of giggling girls. The two pirates took pause and looked after the star in surprise as she flounced past them, but they found themselves even more astonished when their half-dressed and bleeding captain was charging right behind her.
“Cut ‘em loose and come with me,” The redhead was harsh with his command, and his men’s confused glances were pulled from him and the first mate to the other approaching would-be allies.
_
Outside, fireworks sang out their whistles as they rocketed towards the star-filled sky to burst into bright and dazzling colors. Onlookers were gathered at the harbor to admire from below - Sanji, Nami, and Brook were among the crowd.
Shachi and Penguin were both pouting and leaned up against a wall outside of the Rendezvous while a blushing Bepo was being doted upon by a couple of dancers – one pinched his cheek and the other played with his ear as they cooed cute compliments.
_
A back-alley door slammed open and Carmen was still angry on her way out, the others still not quite caught up with her as she rounded around the building towards the still-lively fest.
_
All-smiles, the merchant to a pirate flag kiosk was waving in thanks with his head turned to happy customers as they walked away. The dancer snatched up one of the flags at random – a Heart Pirate jolly roger - and seamlessly wrapped it around herself like a cloak.
_
All three Heart Pirates got curious when they saw someone rush by bearing their mark, the Kid Pirates following close, then two Straw Hats, and finally their own captain.
“Huh…?” Bepo’s blushing disappeared, and Shachi cupped hands over his mouth.
“Captain! Where are you going?”
“We’ll come with you!” Penguin declared, and the three abandoned the annoyed dancers.
_
“Hey!!”
Nami, Sanji, and Brook all turned when they heard their captain call. They were just as surprised as the other crews at the sight, and their captain was waving at them.
“Come with us! We’re going somewhere secret!”
Nami scoffed. “He can’t be serious,” she hurried after her captain. “Luffy, wait!"
Sanji and Brook exchanged perplexed glances, but were just as quick to catch up to their gleeful, questioning captain. “Where are the others? I don’t want them to miss out on the fun!”
“Fun?!”
“I believe Usopp and Chopper were playing more carnival games,” Brook informed his captain just as they were getting on the less-populated outskirts of the harbor, “And Franky and Robin perhaps went on a carriage tour.”
The storming, cloaked lead was quick to speak. “Forget it, they’re too scattered out,” she looked over her shoulder. “I don’t want all of you in my camp until negotiations are sorted out, anyway.”
Sanji was instantly popping heart eyes, “Is that-?!?!”
“Get a hold of yourself!” Nami’s fist slammed the top of his head and reset him before she scolded both Captain and first mate with angry eyes and sharp teeth. “Negotiations?! We leave you both alone for two seconds and you’re signing your souls or all our Berri away?! One of you better start talking!”
“Fine,” Zoro breathily grumbled, and he and his Captain were unintelligible in their explanation as, now at the rear of the group, Captain Kid threw his coat at his first mate.
“Hold this,” he was surly in both toss and demand as he angrily yanked his shirt back up, not caring if it smeared the blood.
Wire had eyes cut over to him and was reluctant to ask, “You okay, captain…?”
“I’m fine,” but his irate tone told otherwise as he snatched his coat back, finished dressing, and lowered his voice. “Dammit…I don’t know what the hell she got me with, but it wasn’t a knife. The only metal I could feel on her was her jewelry.”
That surprised Heat, “The dancer did that??”
“I’m thinking it’s a Devil Fruit,” Killer gave his input as they strolled. “Gotta be…”
Kid gave a low, thoughtful growl, “The trick has a trick…that’s for sure.”
“So why the hell are we following her into the night?” Heat queried, and there was something sinister to his captain’s cold glare.
“Because we come out on top either way.”

Chapter 11: Zoan-Type Devil Fruit! Chopper's Seven-Form Transformation
(episode 88)
"You can't break it! The skull mark is a symbol of faith!"
"Luffy!"
"It's a direct hit!"
"He must've been blown away! Such an idiot!
"See? It didn't break!"
"What?! Can't be... he's stupid!"
"I don't know who the heck this pirate flag belongs to, but since this flag is a person's pledge to risk his life, it's not raised as a joke! This flag isn't something you can just break, while laughing foolishly!"
'Incredible... so this is... a pirate!'
-
"This is a symbol of the belief that nothing is impossible! I will save this country as a doctor! By raising this, I'll fight just like pirates do!"
"What are pirates?"
"Pirates are incredible guys at sea. It's cool to be a pirate! There're tons of incredible guys at sea! Chopper, go out to sea someday."
"Hey, reindeer!" Luffy snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Hmm?"
"I'm gonna beat up these guys now. What do you wanna do?"
"I..."
"What're you saying? You damn idiot! If you wanna protest that bad, stay there forever to protect it!" He aimed a cannon at him.
Sanji immediately leaped into action. "Why don't you stop... right there!"
"Hmm?!"
Sanji was running into battle, when there was a terrible crack. "Ow!"
"Sanji!" Venus exclaimed in concern. "What's wrong?!"
"Looks like his backbone gave out," Kureha noted, as he tried to fight anyway, "That's just natural. You're moving around too much! Stop, doctor's orders!" She kicked him in his back, sending him to the ground, and kept him down with her foot.
Wapol laughed mockingly. "What're you idiots doing?! Just stand there, and watch! I'll blow him to bits, along with that flag! Time to get blown away, Straw Hat!"
"Stop it!" Chopper raged, charging back in.
"That's the idea!" Luffy praised, as he worked on fixing the flagpole. "Get him, reindeer!"
"Wapol-sama! Watch out!" Chopper nailed a punch to... Kuromarimo's face.
"Go, Chopper!" Venus cheered.
"The little brat is showing his guts as if he's a fully grown man," Kureha remarked.
"Chessmarimo" laughed mockingly, and simultaneously. "Sorry. I won't let you lay your finger on Wapol-sama!" A furious Chopper shrunk back down to his small form. "Really, there are some strange creatures in this world. Seems like you're that yeti the citizens got worked up at one time." Kuromarimo both pointed at him. "You must really have spent your whole life disliked by everyone. You poor monster. Why's a loner like you trying to save this country? Don't make me laugh!"
"Shut up!" He snapped. "Even if I don't have friends, I can still fight! As long as Doctor's flag exists, I will-"
"You do have friends!" Luffy yelled from above, and readied his arms. "I am your friend!" He launched himself down, and crashed right in front of the evil trio, knocking them off their feet.
"Straw Hat!" Chopper exclaimed. Luffy chuckled, as he adjusted his hat. "Are you okay?!"
"I'm just fine, since I'm a rubber man."
"A rubber man?!"
"Chessmarimo" regained their footing. "Hey, reindeer. Can you finish that guy?"
"Someone like that is a piece of cake."
"Then it's decided; my opponent is the annoying mouth!"
Speaking of which, Wapol stomped up behind him. "How dare you, Straw Hat, flying around like that!"
"I won't hesitate any longer!" Chopper vowed.
"You can take me down?!" They exclaimed simultaneously. "Huh, you monster?!"
"How dare you..." Sanji struggled through his pain. "Old hag! I will fight..."
She pressed down harder on his back. "Shut up, and watch! If you keep moving around, you won't be able to walk on your own anymore."
"If you can't fight, then I will!" Venus decided, and started to march out.
"N-no!" Sanji protested, weakly grabbing her booted ankle. "Venus-chan, don't!!"
"I can't just stand back, and watch!"
"Stay here, little girl," Kureha ordered.
"B-but I-"
"Don't worry; when push comes to shove, my reindeer can handle things."
She stayed quiet, before standing aside to observe.
"My name is Tony Tony Chopper! It's a name that the world's greatest doctor gave me! Even if Doctor forgave you, I won't forgive you for laughing at how he lived!"
"Chessmarimo" approached him. "I'm the one who'll show no forgiveness! I'll stomp you!"
"Stop talking simultaneously!" Venus shouted. "You're not fooling anyone!"
Chopper pulled a small, yellow ball out of his blue bag. "Rumble Ball!"
-
"Dalton-san! Dalton-san! Wake up!" Vivi begged. "Please! Dalton-san!"
"Vivi," Usopp watched nervously.
"Hey! Dalton-san! Dalton-san!"
Out of nowhere, someone felt his heart. "Dalton is still alive."
"The Twenty MDs!" A resident exclaimed.
"His body's frozen. That's all."
"Will you leave him in our care?"
Everyone looked on in awe. "Hey, there are doctors," Zoro remarked, "I thought I heard that there weren't any doctors in this country."
"These guys're called the Twenty MDs, and they exclusively work for Wapol," Usopp clarified, and narrowed his eyes, "In other words, they're bad doctors!"
"That's right! We can't trust you! Leave Dalton-san in your care when you gave in to Wapol, to the king?!"
"What're you going to do to Dalton-san?!"
"If you want to save him, just do what we say!" One of them removed his sunglasses. "We are still doctors. Even though we were forced to give in by Wapol, and his men's power, we've always worked to advance our medical research, for the patients in this country!" More shades were removed, as the residents were still cautious. "It was because a certain quack taught us not to give up. We can't lose any more... stupid men like him!"
-
"The effect of the Rumble Ball lasts 3 minutes," Chopper said, "I'll take you down in 3 minutes!"
"3 minutes?!" Chess and Kuromarimo laughed tauntingly. "You can't defeat me at all, much less in 3 minutes!"
"3 minutes?" Luffy beamed. "That's amazing!"
""3 minutes? That's amazing!"" Wapol mocked him.
"W-will 3 minutes be enough?" Venus asked worriedly.
Kureha chuckled, now sitting on Sanji's back. "Shut up and watch. We'll be able to see something interesting."
"Dammit! Let me fight too!" He struggled.
"Rumble!" Chopper broke the ball with his teeth.
Chess and Kuromarimo readied a pair of flaming arrows. "What... did you say you could do?! Marimo's Snow Melting Arrow!"
As they were shot, Chopper prepared to change form. "Walk Point! Leg Boost!" He resembled a regular reindeer, as he charged in.
"Whoa!" Luffy watched in awe.
"Humph! Just a transformation?! I was expecting something more! In other words, you have the powers of a Devil Fruit. Zoan-type, just like Dalton! A reindeer human, huh?!"
"Heavy Point! Weight Boost!" He changed into his large form. "I'm a human reindeer!"
"Same difference! I know everything about the three-form transformation you Zoan-types use." They each held two large, wooden mallets. "Marimo's Super Surprise Quattro Hammer! I've seen all your forms. Looks like you're a power fighter like Dalton. But there's no way you can..."
"Jumping Point! Jump Boost!"
"Outpower me!" He changed into a new form, with a humanoid body, a reindeer head, and large triceps, as he leaped out of the mallet's shadow.
"He jumped!" Sanji exclaimed. "He can really jump!"
"Whoa!"
"What?! What's that form?! Wasn't his "human-animal form" the little reindeer from earlier?! How impudent!"
"Guard Point! Fur Boost!" He changed into a large furball with a head and hooves, shielding from a mallet whack, and was sent rolling up to the castle.
"Again?!"
"Whoa!" Luffy continued watching.
Chopper stood on his hooves, and poked his head out. "Can't be... I hit him dead on!"
"It won't work!" He defied them.
"I was sure that Zoan-types had a limit of three forms. What the heck are you?"
"The Rumble Ball is a drug that messes up the wavelength of the Devil Fruit's transformations. During my 5 years of research, I found 4 more transformation points. 3 transformations plus 4."
"Seven-form transformation?"
"Sev-" Luffy gawked.
"What's the big deal with the number of transformations?!"
"A..." Luffy's eyes lit up. "A seven-form transforming, interesting reindeer!"
"What's the matter with him?" Kureha snarked.
"Looks like his happiness exceeded its limit after hearing seven-phase transformation," Sanji remarked.
"You bastard," Wapol loomed over him, "What happened to your fight against me?!"
"To hell with seven-phase transformation! I won't be deceived by such a sham!" Chess and Kuromarimo leaped in the air.
"It's not a sham!" As Luffy continued watching, Chopper bounced up to them. "Arm Point! Arm Boost!" He became a humanoid with a reindeer head again, only now with much thicker arms. They were shocked when he broke all of their mallets effortlessly. "Let me tell you one thing. My iron hooves can smash even rocks!"
"Amazing!" Luffy gushed.
"How impudent, you bastard!" The pair complained. "This'll show you! Marimo's Surprise... Quattro Axe!" They each wielded a pair of huge axes. "Snow Splitting Blade!" The attack left merely a cut on his left shoulder, and struck behind him.
"Hey, the castle wall got hollowed out!" Sanji noticed.
"Tsk! He dodged it! Then, how about... this?!" They charged up to him, swinging their axes. "Omnidirectional Snow Splitter!" Chopper jumped, ducked, and changed forms to dodge them. "What happened to your high spirits from earlier?! You can't win if you just keep dodging, you know!"
Chopper managed to leap into the air. "Brain Point! Brain Boost!" He landed away from them. "It's not that I was just dodging." He began o prepare for a super-analysis. "I was looking for your weak spot."
"What?!"
"This will finish you. Scope!" His held his front hooves together into a diamond, and analyzed his enemy.
Luffy gulped. "A-a beam! He'll definitely shoot a beam!"
"He won't, you idiot!" Sanji exclaimed.
"Shut up! It's definitely a beam! I don't care what anyone says, it's a beam!" Wapol was getting angrier by the minute at being ignored, as Venus facepalmed. "What else could it be?! It's a beam!"
"How can you know?! Huh?!"
"I just know! It's a beam! Beam!"
"Then what kind of beam?!"
"I should use this chance."
Chess and Kuromarimo charged in. "You were looking for my weak spot?! So what?!"
Wapol began sneaking into the castle, oblivious to a certain witch noticing. She turned to look up at the sky. 'A full moon. Perfect.' Stealing the opportunity herself, she began sneaking in as well after him. Kureha turned to her when she started inching away. "Little girl?"
"Shh." She cautiously walked in the castle without a word.
Kureha narrowed her eyes in her direction. 'She's as reckless as the boys!'
"I don't have a weak spot! You're a transforming idiot, who can't even attack! You're the one who'll be finished!"
Once they were right in front of him, he stopped. 'I found it! His jaw!' He then disappeared into the deep snow on the ground. "Where'd he go?!"
"Hoofprint..." He burst out, back in Arm Point, "Roseo!" He nailed a punch to Chess' jaw, sending them flying back, an ultimately defeating them. He shrunk down to Brain Point, and brushed off his hat. "3 minutes."
"All right, reindeer!" Luffy cheered. "You're pretty good, reindeer! Amazing!"
"Shut up!" Chopper smiled with embarrassment, as Luffy laughed.
-
Back in the village, Dalton woke up surrounded by... the Twenty MDs! "Dalton-san!" They all murmured.
"In any event, let's go up the mountain," Vivi decided, "Usopp-san, Mr. Bushido!"
"Huh?" Zoro raised an eyebrow.
"I can't just sit around, and wait! I'm worried what happened to Luffy-san and the others in that big avalanche! Nami-san has a very high fever! If anything happened-"
"You're worried about Nami," Usopp cut her off, "On top of that, you're worried about Dalton-san as well as Alabasta, right?" She stare at him silently. "Vivi, calm down! You're carrying too many burdens on your shoulders!"
"What?"
"Nami is with Luffy and Sanji, as is Venus-chan," He clarified, "I'm sure they're okay. They'll be fine! I believe in them!"
'That's right,' Vivi thought, 'He's right. Usopp-san believes in his friends. That's why he can be so calm.' "Thank you, Usopp-san. I-"
"For you, it's just that you're afraid of going up the mountain, isn't it?" Zoro confronted, poking his forehead.
"B-but I heard that there're things like a yeti, and bear-bunnies there!" He stammered, his legs shaking.
"Then say so from the start! Aren't you worried about Venus, at least?"
"Sh-sh-she's fine! She's with Luffy and Sanji!" Vivi frowned in disappointment. So much for that. "It'll be fine," Usopp assured, "It's Luffy we're talking about. He'll make it work. I can't help it if I'm scared! Any problem with that?!"
"Dalton-san!"
"W-wait!" Against the doctors' orders, Dalton staggered outside with a sled for a crutch.
"Ahh!" Usopp perked up. "Dalton-san!"
"Dalton-san!" Vivi turned with a smile.
"Would someone please tell me who the heck this guy is?!" Zoro exclaimed.
The doctors, plus some citizens, filed out after him. "Dalton-san! You can't!"
"Get out of my way! We can't let Wapol in the castle! Never!"
"Don't tell me they're heading to the castle!" Vivi fussed.
"In your condition... that's reckless!" Usopp scolded.
Dalton glared in their direction. "When will I fight, if I don't fight now? If Wapol goes back to being the king, this country will become rotten forever!"
"There's no way you can fight in that condition!" A resident protested.
"We're no match for them either."
Dalton straightened himself through the pain. "I will settle this! No matter how dirty I have to play!"
He started stumbling off, only for a bold Usopp to stand in his way. Through the silence, he turned away, and knelt down. "Get on my back. I'll take you to the castle." Dalton stared in shock. "You don't need to be modest! I don't wanna waste your determination; that's all."
"Usopp-san," Vivi watched from the crowd in awe.
Usopp struggled, as he kept true to his word, dragging himself with Dalton through the village. "Hold on, okay? I will take you... to the castle now."
"Usopp-san," Vivi grew concerned.
"Hey, Usopp-kun. I really don't think this is going to work."
"It'll work!" He insisted, though he was starting to perspire. "I'll take you there! You're gonna fight for the country, right?! You're gonna settle this, right?! Don't worry. I'll definitely take you there!"
Zoro facepalmed at his obvious struggling. "Geez... that moron." To Usopp's chagrin, Zoro lifted Dalton over his shoulder with ease. "We just have to go up the mountain, right?"
"Zoro..." He glared, and started kicking him. "You jerk! You jerk!"
"Ow! Ow!" Zoro griped. "What're you doing?!"
"Usopp Punch!"
"Look moron, you can impress Venus some other way."
"Hey!" He was pushed away, and spun his arms to stay upright, before he stomped ahead indignantly, his shoulders hunched. "I was just about to use my serious power!" He complained.
"Yeah, I know," Zoro snarked.
"Serious Power!"
"Whoa, amazing, amazing."
Vivi ran after them, gaining a resident's attention. "Wait! If you're willing to go that far to get there," They all stopped, "There's a ropeway to the castle."
"Can't be. There's no rope connected to the castle anymore."
"There's one. Someone has reattached a white rope from a big tree at the edge of Gyasta to the castle!"
"Gyasta?" Usopp asked.
"That's the name of the town that Dr. Kureha headed last," Vivi reminded.
-
"Hey, Luffy!" Sanji called to him.
"Huh?"
"Where is that guy?"
"That guy?"
"He's not here!" Sanji exclaimed.
"Which guy?" Luffy asked obliviously.
"That tin bastard! He's disappeared!"
"Ahhh!" He glanced around frantically. "Ahhh! Ahhh!"
"He came up on the haired hippo," Kureha recalled, "He wouldn't go down on his own."
"When on Earth did he-?"
"While you're fascinated by the transformations, of course!" Sanji glared.
"That bastard! I'll find him right away, and finish him off!"
"Don't tell he got into the castle from somewhere," Sanji frowned, before panicking. "In that case, Nami-san will be..." When Luffy ran inside like mad, he crawled after him. "That bastard! If he lays his hands on Nami-san-"
"Hold it!" Kureha ordered, but was ignored.
"I'll gut him 100 times!"
She sighed in exasperation. "Geez, does he want to die?"
"Doctorine."
"Hmm?"
Chopper pulled his hat brim down over his eyes. "He called me... his friend."
"Where're you, you annoying mouth?!" Luffy demanded.
In the room, Nami felt her forehead. "Seems like my fever is coming down quite a bit. At this rate, it's likely that I can go back to the ship soon." She then shot up. "What am I doing?! This is no time to be in bed, resting here! Vivi is waiting for me!"
Downstairs, Venus was unnoticed, as she spied on Wapol from behind a large snow mound. "What the heck is going on here?!" He demanded. "Is this really my Drum Castle?" She glared silently. "What have they done to my castle? They won't get away with this!" He growled. "I will chew up every single one of them!"

I read the latest chapter, and suffice to say I'm worried...
Ah, pretty sure I know what this is about. Spoilers for One Piece chapter 1063 under the cut.
So I'm assuming this is about Law because his situation is definitely the part of the last chapter I would call the most concerning. And I do have some thoughts on this frankly terribly unexpected encounter.
First off: I don't think he's going to die here. Considering the themes in the story that have been particularly strong lately of a new generation ascendant--which, admittedly, Blackbeard is generally included in--it would seem a weird choice to knock Law out of the story entirely here, especially when he's one of the primary people in the story that lens has been focused on after the Straw Hats.
But, more specifically, I think it would be a genuinely weird choice to do so after all of the focus Law has received in regards to having a new dream to pursue. He has a specific goal--what is the Will of D?--and we've seen him actively pursuing that despite how recently we comparatively learned about it. We see him talking to Robin, affirming his desire to learn about it in the basement of Onigashima, acknowledge he has to go through people like Big Mom to get the information he's looking for, and actively follow up on his leads by taking a field trip (with Robin, again) to see Wano's road poneglyph. (I just. I just really want a Robin and Law team-up so very very much).
It's just a lot of focus to put on a character you're planning on killing as soon as the current arc ends. And here's the thing: Law didn't need this new dream to get him through Wano. He still would have been there fighting. Robin could have eventually learned the information he's looking for (and almost certainly will anyway) and that could have been the way that information was revealed in story.
But we've gone out of our way to establish a D clan member with active interest in the mystery, and since Luffy doesn't care, it feels like Law at the very least needs to stick around long enough to do so, in the name of at least one of the people in question with that name actually giving a flying fuck about one of the series' greatest mysteries.
He's got multiple death flags hanging over his head, sure, and someday one of them might come due, but I don't think that's now.
That said, it doesn't mean he gets out of this unscathed.
Of note, Blackbeard doesn't say he wants Law's devil fruit, which is interesting, because he did explicitly state he wanted Boa's. So there's a good chance he's not here to rip it out of Law, no matter the Ope Ope no Mi's reputation. He wants Law's copies of the poneglyphs, because he's an opportunist.
I do think it's interesting that this is a random encounter: Blackbeard straight up says he was waiting for whichever of the Boys left Wano in this direction. And I think that Law being the unlucky one of the trio here suggests a few things:
First, it makes the most sense for it to be him. It can't be Luffy, because he's the protagonist and needs to be off keeping the main plot going, and Kid is off looking for the 'man marked by flames,' so that means he's busy. Not to mention we still need to learn about his issues with Shanks. So, unlucky draw for plot relevance, I guess.
However, this could be an excuse to reveal some information to the audience, and the two biggest contenders I can think of are the mystery of Blackbeard's weird body, and Rocky Port.
On the first, Law is the natural person to be able to figure this out, because of his abilities. He might honestly actually already know, since it's confirmed in this chapter that they've met before.
Which brings me to my second point: Rocky Port, one of the most mysterious events to have happened in the series. And if Coby is on Blackbeard's ship at this moment, that puts all three key players of the incident in the same place.
Also: Law at the end of the chapter is looking very cocky. Not that he hasn't demonstrated this kind of behavior before, but right out the gate? He's usually a little more serious than this. Which could suggest he has a plan, or knows something he's not letting on.
There is also the fact that Blackbeard likely doesn't know the full extent of Law's abilities--his awakening is broken as fuck and also a new development. Law could genuinely surprise him, and he also has the advantage of likely knowing at least the baseline of how Blackbeard's devil fruit nullification works. This being Law, I cannot imagine him not workshopping the hell out of potential counters to it if he does.
But I think the big thing here is that as much as I think the narrative support is there to keep him alive, I think he's going to lose something here, because part of this is going to be showing Blackbeard's increasing threat. Maybe he's captured (again! So many times!) or maybe his poneglyph rubbings do get stolen, or something else. Maybe someone else shows up who's enough of a threat he can get away, who knows? There are legitimately so many ways this can go.
And I'm not sure we'll even get to see it, unless there really is something the audience needs to learn here. We could not know how this fight shapes up for a really long time; the end of the current arc, even, if it gets off-screened in its entirety.
On a more meta note...this is going to be one of those situations where no matter the outcome, some of the fanbase are going to cry foul. It'll be bad writing if Law lives, it'll be bad writing if he does well, it'll be bad writing if he does poorly, it'll be bad writing if he wins. Some people seem genuinely excited for Law dying, because death seems to be the only thing they think raises stakes. Which is a sentiment I've never understood, but I'm not here to dictate how other people experience their media. I just find it deeply unrelatable.
I, personally, just kind of want him to have one good thing happen to him in canon. I don't care if he continues on being a pirate, or retires to run the world's most unassailable hospital on an island somewhere. Let the boy be happy, for fuck's sake. Maybe it's optimistic of me to want a good end for a character with so much tragedy and lingering death hanging over him, but I'll own the fact that I am a gooey-hearted sentimentalist and say that I think that'd be a better end to his character arc at this point than his death.
(And on that note, to all the people calling out the Heart Pirates for being "too weak" and that Law should have ditched them a long time ago, and that maybe if they die here Law can have a crew worth a damn: you have missed the point of the Heart Pirates, and of a huge chunk of Law's characterization, and shut up).

Okay, so, One Piece is probably my favourite (shounen) manga. I got up to date recently from the beginning in the space of like, two months. However, I despise the anime.
To explain why, I'll talk about my favourite fight, which is Luffy vs. Katakuri. The fight itself goes from about chapter 882 to 897 (so, about 15 chapters). On my last reread I got through it in maybe a bit over hour. At this point in the story Luffy is confronted with an insurmountable obstacle to getting his crew out of Big Mom's territory: Katakuri. To start, Katakuri is presented as Luffy's better in every way. His Devil Fruit power is somehow more flexible than Luffy's. His Observation Haki is so refined he can literally see into the future. On top of all of that, he's been the number two of one of the top four pirate crews for decades. There is literally zero reason Luffy should win.
What followed is 12 in-universe hours of Luffy getting his ass beat, holding on through sheer tenacity. Finally, he pulls out a new transformation he basically invented on the fly to beat this guy. At the end, he wins because he could endure. To get this point across, we get some truly great panels, especially toward the end:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, this fight is fast, and this fight is brutal. It's two guys having a slugfest until one falls down. And it works so well because it reinforces what we already know about Luffy's character.
So what do we get in the anime? A quick look online says that this same section lasts 20 episodes. More than the number of chapters in the manga! It'd take you almost 7 hours to get through it. That's a huge red flag. Generally, an anime should cover the same content in less episodes (JJBA on average fit roughly 4 chapters to an episode, and I still consider it to be slightly slow). And what we get is what we've always gotten from the One Piece anime: attacks that come out slow, and the camera lingering on each shot for wayyyyyy too long. It drags, so bad. It's like the fight scene in my mind has been played in slow motion. I hate it.
Oda knows how to pace his manga, and if the anime wants to be a faithful adaption then the directors need to try and match the pacing.

I was thinking that Neptune and Jimbei were having this convo about how Jimbei secured an alliance with a yonko to keep the Fishman Island safe and was like “oh heck Luffy is causing trouble with said yonko”
But then Jimbei declares his intentions to leave Big Mom and Neptune is like we got all these angry Fishmen who can protect us if she turns against us and I can also fly the Straw Hat flag to deter others too
So y’all really lucky bc Luffy causing a ruckus downstairs and y’all are gonna be relieved you already had this conversation.

Earl Grey Tea with Law

Part of the Soulmate Tea Party Event!
The faint sound of music…ever since you turned 16 there has been the ever so slight tune in your head. Now as an adult, you wonder if you’ll ever meet the person on the other side. Sometimes it gets stronger, but other times it almost fades into nothing. Ever since you decided to sail the seas and explore the world, it has fluctuated violently.
Those who you’ve traveled with have told you that it’s the music of your soulmate; they hear your favorite types of music while you hear theirs. Part of you wonders what they’re hearing on the other end, while another tries to determine just who this mystery person is to whom you’re now audibly bound. You’ve known people who have met their soulmates by bumping into them, but across land and ocean it seems impossible for you.
Sighing, you realize you need food and supplies for your next adventure. You make your way to the mast of your minuscule (in comparison to others) ship. You had heard some big conflict had happened in the country of Dressrosa, so you’re curious to see what the aftermath looked like and if possible you want to scavenge some valuables from the wreckage. But before you can get there you have to stop along the way, and the island just ahead seems like the best bet.
To your bemusement, your music has yet again started getting louder, yet as you circle the island looking for the best place to dock it does not get any quieter the further you go. Any direction, you cannot escape that melody. Whoever your elusive match is, right now they’re here. Thoughts start flooding your brain left right and center. Are they a man, a woman, or other? Are they tall or short, skinny or fat? Strong or weak? You shake your head trying to overthrow the invasive thoughts. You’re here to get supplies and move on ahead.
Heading into port, you notice a yellow metal vessel docked nearby, flying a flag you swear you recognize from somewhere. As you enter the shopping district, the noise is almost deafening and almost painful to hear. So distracted are you with this, in fact, that you don’t notice the crowds parting as a man walks down the street towards you clutching his head. Neither of you have your eyes set ahead of you, and so it’s inevitable when you collide.
Your ears are ringing, not only from the noise of the hustle and bustle, but from the music you’re hearing inside your head. “I’m so-“ You cut yourself off. The music has stopped. Is this man your soulmate? It seems the mysterious man has stopped clutching his head, and has relaxed a bit. “What? Oh great it’s quiet now. Guess that means it’s you, huh? I told Bepo this kind of thing was ridiculous, but here I am being proven wrong. So who are you?“ His voice is deep and warm, and you feel a pang of something you can’t discern.
Clearing your throat, you announce your name to the man. He’s tall and handsome with dark hair, and you swear you’ve seen him before. “My name is Trafalgar Law, and I’m the captain of the Heart Pirates.” Oh. That’s where you’ve seen him before. He’s one of the worst generation.
The realization of what all this meant swept over you at once and left you with a chill up your back. Your soulmate is one of the most dangerous pirates of this era, up there with the murderous “Captain” Kidd or the enigmatic “Straw Hat” Luffy.
“I can’t believe you’re my soulmate! You’re one of the strongest pirates on the sea? What’s a pirate like you doing on an island like this? You chirp, eager to know what your soulmate is up to, and where he’s going. “I’m refueling and restocking. If I’m going to continue to feed my crew and play doctor for them, I’m going to need supplies.” He states numbly. “Really? I’m doing the same thing, I’m on the way to Dressrosa! But wait… you and Straw Hat Luffy were the ones who wrecked that place, weren’t you?”
He raises an eyebrow at the coincidence of all that, but shrugs. “Yeah there’s next to nothing there except wrecked houses and hopeful people. I wouldn’t recommend a visit for a while.” You nod in agreement of that assessment, now having to consider a new destination. “Well, where are you heading then?” “Why do you want to know?” He huffed, pulling his hat down over his eyes. “You don’t exactly look like a pirate yourself, only a wandering traveler who’s lost in this drowning sea. Let’s just say that I’m on my way to somewhere far off, unreachable to those without the knowledge.”
You pout at that dig, knowing fully well that you can get anywhere you wanted if only you put your mind to it. “I’m the one with your music in my head, and you’re the one with mine. I think that makes me plenty qualified to make a request or two of you. So… take me with you! I’ve been a skilled enough pirate to navigate the New World so far, I’ve kept my own ship in good shape, and if you take me on yours I can sell mine for some extra berries you can use for future expenses. It just makes sense, plus you’re not about to turn your back on your soulmate, are you?”
Law sighs and bites his lip. “Alright, you can come with me. But only if you keep the music you play low. To be honest, I’m not a fan of the mixture of genres you have.” Law stifles a laugh, knowing that you had a particularly interesting catalogue of music, not limited to songs from memes. “Oh, says the one who either listens to classical or Black Sabbath.” You retort with a smile.
“So, where to?”

Zeff's Adventures on the Grand Line
Fanfiction mostly Zeff centric but sometimes with Sanji
Chapter 2 (English) Welcoming Weather and Whiskey Peak
Zeff was looking forward to their next destination. He knew he didn’t have the same capacities as a real navigator and he had to say that if he didn’t solve this problem quickly, then their trip might end soon.
He was making sure the boat was still sailing in the right direction when Patty came next to him. He was soaking wet because of the travel down the Red Line but otherwise, he was fine.
“Did you notice the flag on that whale?”
“Of course I did, I’m not blind.”
“That kid is a real hassle isn’t he.”
“Well, that kid took the eggplant with him, he’s a good one. I’m sure he promised something to that whale for it to be so calm.”
“It wasn’t always like that?”
Zeff sniggered and raised his eyes to look at the sky. Clouds were starting to form above them and he knew exactly what was going to happen.
“One day you’ll know. Now go back, it’s only the beginning eh, you might wish to go back to East Blue with what’s coming.”
Patty raised an eyebrow and did as he was told. Minutes later, the boat was hit by massive waves from both sides. The rain was freezing cold, gales making the Baratie tremble under its strength. Zeff was yelling instructions to try to keep them safe and alive. Water flood the deck and some of them were almost sent flying.
Then, peace. But only for a short time because now, it was way too hot and they felt like they were being cooked alive. They all thought they were finally done when the temperature started to cool down, only for it to start snowing.
Zeff was keeping an eye on everyone while trying to get the ship out of this living nightmare. Carne was holding a newbie by the arm, preventing him from falling overboard, Patty was holding the rope to keep the sail on track.
And as quickly as it arrived, everything stopped: they were out of this passage.
Relief came and with that, exhaustion followed. The chef looked at his Log Pose to see if they were still sailing in the good direction and it was the case. He didn't know how long it would take to reach Whiskey Peak, one of the first destinations on the Grand Line but he hoped it wouldn't be days, they were already short on time and, even with amazing luck, deep down he knew they wouldn't be able to reach the Strawhat on time.
It was making Zeff furious to have to let his son deal with his shitty family alone. Don't get him wrong, he knew Luffy would go down to hell if it meant helping Sanji, but he was still his father, which meant he still worried it wouldn't be enough.
And knowing Sanji, it wouldn't be.
Hours passed and Zeff, still lost in his thoughts, finally heard one of the cooks yelling.
There were two possibilities. One, they were under attack. Two, they saw an island.
It happened to be the second option. They slowly arrived and saw an empty village, saved for a handful of people. Zeff really hoped he would find a doctor or a real navigator because for now, he could do it, but it wasn't his field of knowledge.
"Set anchor, we're setting down for a bit."
Zeff left the boat to go and see if someone could help them reach their next destination with more efficiency than what he had been doing until now. But, as said before, not many people lived there. Maybe criminals, pirates, thieves, but certainly not good citizens.
It was a necessity for him to get an Eternal Log Pose because he had heard of an island where it took a year for it to reset and he didn't have that time. Maybe one to Alabasta or someone who knew the way without a Log Pose (that would be a clear miracle). Here, it took mere hours for it to reset, it was a real blessing for them but also a big hassle because they had to leave quickly and that meant he had to have found someone to help them.
He walked a bit with his arms crossed and took a look around until he spotted a group of people with two women and two men hanging around. They seemed to be in their thirties and not actual locals.
"Hey old man, are you lost? You keep staring at us, might give us the creeps."
One of the men, with dark brown hair, chocolate-like skin, deep dark eyes and an outfit we only found in the desert, spoke. His smirk was stretching his face but Zeff could feel the confidence radiating from him. The other man, a thin-but-tall man, placed his hand on his friend's shoulder and gave a smile to Zeff.
"Sorry, he never learnt social courtesy. Can't you see the Log Pose on his wrist? He's waiting for it to reset. Can we help you with anything, sir?"
The two women were staring at him but stayed silent, visibly uncomfortable.
"I am searching for someone who could lead me and my crew to Alabasta. It would be perfect if I got an Eternal Log Pose but I know how difficult it would be to get one. You don't seem to be from here, are you?"
Finally, one of the women who had bright pink hair probably from dyeing it, spoke. She was tall, covered from head to toe with a large white coat, just like her friends to survive under a scorching sun. Her grey eyes stayed unfocused most of the time.
"We're from Alabasta but we left to travel around for a bit. We do have an Eternal Log Pose but I'm not sure it would be wise for us to give it to you."
"Well, maybe we can lead them? It's not like we have many things to do and we're not planning to go really far. We probably can do that." the friendly man said.
"Are you sure? What if they rob us! You can't trust anyone on these seas!" the last woman, smaller than her friends, added.
"We can still ask him." the friendly man said. "Sir, are you going to rob us?"
"Are you completely stupid?! If he's going to do so, he's not going to say it!" the other man yelled while shaking his friend.
Zeff just sighed and waited for them to stop their little argument. If they would lead him to Alabasta, then so be it. But had his pride, he would not beg for them to help him, never.
Finally after what looked like hours, they seemed to settle for something they all agreed to.
"Sir, we will lead you to Alabasta, but if you try anything, we'll tell the guards and the civilian army to come and make you sink." the pink-haired woman concluded.
"Fine by me, but you must know, I'm just a cook trying to realise the impossible."
They stayed quiet for a bit then, they took their bags that were hidden under their coat to put them on.
"Well, lead the way." the first man said, clearly not happy with this outcome.
Zeff turned around and walked back to his ship, at peace to have found what was a miracle for him.

Chapter 1079 is out. Long post below the cut.
A crushing defeat for the Kidd Pirates.
Kidd's mistake here was being too much of a reckless hot head. Luffy failed in the same way at the end of Act One. Oden failed in the same way when he went to fight Kaido. Though unlike Kidd, Luffy had allies from outside to bail help him out, unlike Oden, Luffy never turned his back on his group and again, had outside allies to rely on. Goes back to a favorite older scene of mine, Vivi helping Luffy to earn the citizens' trust, when Nami was very sick on Drum Island and Luffy was about to make a huge mistake.
Tumblr media
Wano gave Kidd multiple chances to gain new allies, tact/social skills, work on his planning, etc. He should have learned these things by the time he faced Shanks in this chapter. It's what the Straw Hats and Akazaya spent all of Acts One and Two doing. I have respect for Kidd's crew for making an effort to settle the situation in the way offered to them, but it was too late at that point.
I like Kidd, though in the grand scheme, he is a side character. His defeat is entirely on him for making no efforts in seeking new allies or reflecting on the success of the alliance during Wano, and his crew paid the price along with him.
Unable to see beyond one alliance falling through, Kidd was shocked that the Straw Hats gained a new ally, Jinbei, just before the raid, often turned down help from others, and repeatedly refused to help anyone beyond his own crew.
Tumblr media
The Straw Hats and Akazaya have been continuously putting in great efforts to make allies in Fishman Island and the New World/past 20 years. Or in the case of the Grand Fleet, the Straw Hats gained them anyway:
-The Straw Hats really got to know the people and histories of Fishman Island and Wano, and both countries are flying their flag.
-They allied with Law and Kin'emon on Punk Hazard.
-The Grand Fleet was formed in Dressrosa.
-They worked together with the Fire Tank Pirates in Big Mom’s territory.
-The Ninja Pirate Mink Samurai Alliance was formed in Zou.
-Luffy worked with Tsuru and Kiku during Act One. Though both Zoro and Law put up some resistance to Kiku at first, they'd later come around to the Akazaya as a whole.
-Various combos of Luffy, Chopper, Kiku, Tama, Momo, Hyogoro, Raizo, Kawamatsu, Olin teamed up during Act Two.
-Zoro got his own side story about learning to respect and be better at working with others during Act Two. Yasu, Hiyori and Toko.
Tumblr media
An example of how important gathering allies I love is how Usopp’s, Tama’s, Kiku’s, and Hamlet’s stories intertwine - Luffy, Zoro, and Kiku rescue Tama early on. Kiku and Tama later helped to rescue Luffy from the prison in Udon, then take it over. And finally, Tama would go on to bring the Gifters, and specifically Hamlet, to the side of the alliance, who would become vital due to him being the one who carried Kin and Kiku to safety. Kaido reaped what he sewed by being disloyal to his own crew.
Law is slow to trust allies, though he will enter alliances. Him and his crew are ultimately open to teamwork and they all worked well with the Straw Hats and the Samurai.
Even after having an argument about betrayal with Shinobu, the Heart Pirates and Shinobu were able to work together when Luffy needed help, after he was abruptly removed from Onigashima and tossed into the sea. Law was also somehow able to get Kidd to agree to a temporary alliance to defeat Big Mom.
Even after everything he went through with Doffy, Law still was on board with the alliance to defeat Kaido.
Tumblr media
At the end of Wano, Law said he will be enemies with the Straw Hats, should they meet again. Let's be honest though, we know he didn't mean it. I think he's probably going to be fine for now, just captured or hurt.
All the more reasons why Kiku showing up soon feels inevitable from where I stand. Apart from Tama, Kiku is the Wano ally who spends the most time with the crew during the arc by far. After everything the Straw Hats and Law did for Wano and the Akazaya and Kozuki clan as a whole, there is absolutely no way that a group as well mannered overall as them would be content with only throwing a party and saying thanks to the two pirate crews.
During Wano, there is precedent for members of the cast disappearing for a while, then showing back up again right as they are needed. Very theatrical. Think Hiyori healing the Akazaya, and later her shamisen music resonating with her father’s blade during Zoro’s duel with King. Or Denjiro arriving just in time to sever Orochi’s final head, at the most dramatic moment. He and Hiyori definitely planed that, maximum theatrics.
The Straw Hats are in a tricky situation on Egghead, Law was likely captured by Blackbeard, who now seems to be en route to Egghead. All that and the first teases of Neko and Izo arriving in Wano being almost 100 chapters ago(981 & 982,) make the next chapters feel like the right time to start hinting at Kiku or start filling in the gaps from the end of Wano.

God damn. You’re really annoying if you think The Strawhats are like every other pirate crew. Zoro is the vice this n Nami is the quartermaster that….
Tumblr media
Like for real. After 25 years you honestly don’t understand the Strawhat dynamics? You’re still arguing about first mates n shit.
Tumblr media
Just stop. The Strawhat Pirates are not like any other crew. They are an absolute unit and when one is gone the entire crew suffers.
Tumblr media
I mean Luffy is barely a captain by regular standards. 🤣 Luffy literally made it perfectly clear as to what his crew is way back in Arlong Park. People he can depend on so they can depend on him.
Tumblr media
Not to mention Luffy already said no to the Grand Fleet flying his flag, he doesn’t want a regular Pirate crew. Kinda like Whitebeard, he wants an adventure family.
