G - Gold
Tumblr media
Written for @laurfilijames - it's Fíli...and the prompt "Gold"
Words: 1 k
Characters: Fíli x OC, Dís
Warnings: Very minute sexual innuendo
Tumblr media
Fíli was ready; together with his mother and uncle, he had painstakingly worked through the meagre chest of belongings that were his to give in preparation for this afternoon.
“Do you want someone to go with you?” Dís asked, fussing with a braid on the side of her firstborn’s head in a wordless admission of nervousness.
While strife and trouble had hounded her line indefatigably, love had been a rare blessing—she had loved her husband dearly and had lost him too early while her brother was still searching for the right lady to capture his heart at his ripe age.
Thus, she couldn’t help but feel her nerves flutter at the thought that her little pebble would ask the strong, wild woman he had the honour of having by his side—in battle and in life—to say the ancient words of romantic promise and vow to never leave.
Undoing a braid of her own hair, the one that identified her as the leading female of her clan, Dís retrieved the simple golden bead her brother had made for her when she had come of age.
“Amad,” Fíli whispered, awed by the depth of that gift when she let this most precious of possessions drop into his hollow palm without much ceremony, as was the wont of her people. “Are you sure?”
“Go now, son of mine,” she urged, “before ill winds find you and blow away your happiness.”
He knew what shadows lay on her soul and so he didn’t argue but made his way down the passage to the chambers of the young dam he yearned for constantly.
They had met on the training grounds where she had been teaching a few dwarves how to use their ponies and war-rams better in an attack—her flowing hair and her twinkling eyes had captured his heart almost immediately and the rest was history.
Not unlike him in temper and taste, the dam of his heart was adventurous and brave, but she also had a tender heart that could weep for the misery of the world as much as it could catch fire in a sudden burst of passion.
“Fíli,” she gasped when he entered without knocking. “I had not expected you so soon. I was just in the process of getting ready for the picnic we had planned.”
At first, this stubborn lady had not been enthused by the idea of being wooed by the prince—dreading that she was to be reduced to a piece of furniture or a ceremonial dagger: only ever taken out and looked at on holidays or on rainy days.
It had taken Fíli some time to convince her of the sincerity of his affection and—ever since—they were almost inseparable.
“You said that you abhorred the idea of a golden cage,” he started in a scratchy voice as if all the words he had prepared on his short walk had scraped his throat raw, “but I hope that your dislike is for the cage and not the metal for here I am, holding some of the finest dwarven craft ever done in that material for you to accept or reject.”
“Fí,” she chuckled, cupping his bearded face lovingly and pressing a less than appropriate kiss onto his shaking lips. “What are you talking about?”
“Be mine.”
“I am yours!”
“Forever.”
She flinched back as he knelt, holding his hands up and presenting her with his mother’s bead and his family’s bracelets as a humble offering.
Seeing the prince—the heir to the throne and the dwarf she truly loved—thus made her knees buckle and, half-undressed as she was, she sank down, facing him.
“Fíli, my dear, is this what I think it is? Do you want to court me in earnest then?”
“I would not offer you the gold of the Durins if I had any less honourable designs on you, woman,” Fíli roared, forcing his eyes never to stray from her luminous face and her merrily sparkling eyes; he could almost discern the soft flesh of her bosom, moving under the thin chemise, but he tore his gaze away from this delicious distraction in a supreme effort of will and self-denial.
“The only gold I want,” she grinned, “is your hair on my naked skin. How about that, Prince Fíli? Would you deny a lady her first request and thus forfeit your suit before it has begun?”
Her slender fingers moved along her elegant collarbones teasingly, pushing down the flimsy straps of the self-same garment Fíli had struggled to ignore gallantly.
He gulped.
“No,” he finally whispered, setting down his valuable gifts on the soft, worn carpet of her room gingerly. "I'll fulfil your every wish gladly if that might sway your wonderful, generous heart in my favour.”
“You have my heart,” she replied honestly, “but is that really all of me you’d have? I accept your suit, Fíli, and your gold. Now, tell me, isn’t all the rest a matter of timeline and formality?”
His eyes grew wide, oceans of confusion and desire churning with indecision. “What…”
“Kiss my hand in the Great Hall,” she smiled sensually, “but, shrewd as we are, we would not blindly agree to wed someone with whom we might not be compatible, would we?”
“I guess not,” Fíli muttered, already utterly entranced by her forwardness—this was the lady who steered and controlled mulish ponies by the strength of her thighs alone, how could he have believed, even for a single moment, that she would be content with the traditional, boorish ways of the court etiquette?
“I’ll show you mine if you show me yours,” she said, standing up. A muted swish made Fíli look up to behold her naked body, gleaming in the afternoon sun falling through the open window. “Now put your Durin gold on me, prince, and let’s see how it becomes me!”

Dating Fíli Headcanons
More headcanons, lucky you!! I figured before I get too big of a collection I might want to post some content about the namesake of this blog lol.
Warnings: None
Word Count: 0.4k
- Y'all ever heard of The Belly (TM)?
- Literal heaven on earth cuddling with this man
- He is THEE best cuddler because: 1) bear 1a) belly 1b) hairy 2) he bathes regularly and makes an effort to smell good (look at that face and tell me he doesn't smell like lavender and thyme)
- He's more likely to fall for dwarrowdams than his brother, probably because he's just always been more appealing to his own folk
- He prizes how interesting and captivating a potential partner is over their rank, much to his family's chagrin (cue Kili aggressively cheering him on)
- He's a very diligent student, and the more cautious of the two brothers
- That's why he takes a while observing you from afar and making sure that he won't be wasting your time if he asks to court you
- That same studiousness makes him very attractive to you
- If he didn't know before, he quickly learns to cook at an artisan/Bombur level to impress you
- He plays the fiddle very skillfully, though he relies on you to come up with new tunes for him to serenade you with
- He loves to read, and if you do too, he will fall HARD when you can discuss the books you read together
- He learned to dance to impress at balls, but he takes to twirling you and waltzing with you in hallways, often early in the morning or late at night when no one else is around
- He definitely spends most of his time forging, however--where do you think all those knives came from?
- You'll have a whole collection before you even get married, with a few gauntlets/bracelets/necklaces in there somewhere
- He gets a huge confidence boost from you oohing and ahhing over his muscles, which thankfully you do often
- One form of affection you both share is playing with each other's hair--it's a perfect way to get each other to relax after long days
- Naps naps naps naps naps naps
- Once again, I cannot emphasize this enough: most ideal and best pillow because he is warm and soft and also he loves you what more could you ask for

Back by popular demand (lol two people but let me have my moment): the Guardianofrivendell Birthday Writing Challenge!
A writing challenge?
Yes! To celebrate Tullaina's and my own upcoming birthday on June 11th, I challenge YOU, my dear mutuals, friends and followers, to write! Because what better way to celebrate my birthday than by being creative?
You can write anything from a little drabble to a full-blown 5k+ words fic story, whatever you feel like. But about what?
Well... If you remember last year, the writing challenge was all about the Incorrect Tullaina Quotes. I’m bringing them back because it was a lot of fun, but I’m adding two more options for those who want to try something else this year or simply don’t want to write about my OC (which I totally understand!!)
You can write fluff, angst, even smut, use every cliche trope in the book if you want, but make sure to tag your work accordingly so no one gets surprised!
You can find the three options further down this post.
How do I participate?
If you decide to join this little writing challenge, I'll be forever in your debt and super super grateful that you helped by not letting this flop!
Send me an ask or dm if you want to join this challenge with the option of your choice. I'll list the participants in this post and depending of if they want to, I’ll add what option they chose so you’ll have a basic idea of what everyone else is doing (because we like that, we’re human after all)
Deadline is Saturday June 11th 2022, this means you’ll have about 6 weeks time to write your work. On June 11th, everyone can post their work on Tumblr using the tag #Guardianofrivendell Birthday Writing Challenge 2022 so we can find the fic and don't forget to tag me in it!
The day after I’ll link all the works in one big GBWC 2022 Masterlist.
Can I post the fic on other platforms too?
Sure! Go ahead and post it on AO3, Wattpad or whatever platform you use outside of Tumblr.
What if I can't write, but I want to draw something or make a moodboard?
Uh... Yes please! You don't even have to ask! Same thing, send me an ask or dm that you’ll join the challenge and I’ll add your name to the list. You can still choose between the three options!
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to send me an ask or message! I’ll probably reblog this post a lot of times the next 6 weeks, so sorry in advance for that :)
I read this post but I still don’t understand what this challenge is or what I have to do?
Don’t worry, we all get that sometimes! Luckily for you (and me!) I did this challenge last year as well. You can read all the works and watch the beautiful art pieces here so you can see how my wonderful mutuals and friends took on this challenge like a boss! Aren’t I the luckiest one?
Alright, alright, we get it! Now get to the options already!
You can choose out of three options, or combine them if you want, go crazy:
Tumblr media
Pick a quote (or quotes if you’re feeling ambitious) from the tag “Incorrect Tullaina Quotes”. Use it as inspiration, build your story around it or use it as part of a dialogue in the fic. Your choice!
Search the tag “Incorrect Tullaina Quotes” in the Tumblr search bar or on my blog and you’re supposed to get most of them that way. There are over 100 incorrect quotes, so I can’t link them all in this post. It would simply be too much. However, if there are enough people who do want a list with all the quotes lined up, let me know and I’ll see if I can collect them in a doc and link that doc here. It’s a lot of work, so it can take a while before I’m able to do that.
If you need more information about my OC Tullaina, you can find fics, arts and her character sheet in my masterlist.
Tumblr media
As you all know I’m a pretty slow writer and cursed to be visited by plot bunnies all the time. This can be quite frustrating because I know I won’t be able to write them all, even if I really, really want to.
So why not challenge you to write them for me?
Under the “read more” cut you can find a selection of Tullaina Plot Bunnies, little moments out of Tullaina’s life that I was planning to write someday. Some are almost summaries of the (non-existing) fic, while others are just “what about so and so”.
Don’t be afraid to write Tullaina OOC because you can’t! If I learned anything about last year’s challenge it’s that I love every version of Tullaina that was created, not once did I think “She wouldn’t say or do that!” because I was so in the moment!
Tumblr media
Isn’t that a question we all ask ourselves sometimes? What if?
Well, now is the moment you can find out! Under the cut are 10 “What if” questions. Pick one and rewrite a scene from The Hobbit or Lord of The Rings, or write a new one!
For example, what if you pick the question “What if Thranduil was the smallest Elf in history?”, you could imagine how the scene in the throne room between Thranduil and Thorin would go a little differently... Let your imagination run free!
Thought of a What If-question that you would love to write but can’t find in the list? No problem, then you’re choosing number 11!

Tullaina Plot Bunnies
Here you can find little snippets out of Tullaina’s life that I wrote down in a doc (literally, it’s a copy paste out of that doc minus two that I really want to write myself) because I wanted to write a fic about it at some point. But you know me, I can’t write fast so who knows when it’ll get done, if ever. Feel free to give it your own twist!
Tullaina has a nickname ‘Tulls’, but only Fili and Kili use it. They get very protective if anyone else picks up on the nickname and uses it to address Tullaina. What would happen if at some point (say at a feast or gathering), another Dwarf uses the nickname when he talks/flirts to her? Could be any period of time: Ered Luin, during the quest, in Erebor, ...
There’s a ball in Ered Luin, the first one since forever (mostly to boost morale a bit) and the first one Fíli, Kíli and Tulls are allowed to go to. It’s the first time Fíli sees Tullaina all dressed up (hair done nicely, a proper dress). His mouth runs dry and he knows it will be a long night this way. How does the evening go?
Tullaina is trained by Thorin and Dwalin, and sometimes even Fíli and Kíli. She has the normal amount of training every Dwarrow gets, but once she decides to join the Quest, her training sessions pick up. What would a training session look like? How is she doing? And why doesn’t she wield an axe? Ered Luin era
When Kili meets Tauriel (? or another OC?) and falls in love during the quest, he tells Tulls he wants to ask her to marry him. And then Tullaina wonders ‘but who am I supposed to marry now?’ because they promised each other when they were teens that if they didn’t find their One they would stick together, maybe even marry each other. And she jokingly says (but secretly also kind of means it) that she’ll forever be alone now. Fili is standing there, he wants to swoop in and say something smooth like ‘you will always have me’ but can’t seem to find his voice. The moment is broken when Bofur says just that, and it becomes one of their ‘almost’ moments.
“Uncle Thorin” moments with Fíli, Kíli and Tullaina
There was really only one other Dwarf who genuinely wanted to court Tullaina, when they're in Erebor. You can imagine how that affected Fili... How is he dealing with this? And Kíli (aka their biggest shipper?)
Fíli runs into Kíli late at night, he’s looking for Tullaina. “Have you seen her? She’s not in her room and I can’t find her anywhere.” They’ve been working all day for the past few weeks. “Do you think she could have left?” “Maybe she finally got enough of being alone, we’ve neglected her” etc etc They look for her in the library, great hall, the stables but can’t find her anywhere. Slight panic, Fíli freaking out, Kíli trying to reassure him. When they’re on their way to alert Thorin and Dís of her disappearance, they find her sleeping with a book in her lap in a nook in one of her secret reading spots.
Once they’re settled in Erebor, married and all, Fíli surprises Tullaina with a grey puppy called Mouse (kind of like a Great Dane but the ME version of it, so... BIG, Fíli hates the name she gave him), as a guard dog for her when he’s out (worried husband y’all). Turns out it’s one big softie and instead of being weary of new people he’s welcoming to everyone. Until one time he doesn’t and everyone is suspicous. Rightfully so.
What If?
Pick a number and (re)write a TH/LOTR scene of your choice with this question in mind, or create a new one (a deleted scene if you want)
1. What if Dís went on the Quest, along with her brother and two sons?
2. What if Ori was the one to fall in love with Tauriel (movie verse)?
3. What if Boromir survived the arrows?
4. What if Hobbits could talk to animals? Like tiny dr Doolittles?
5. What if Gandalf couldn’t keep a secret/can’t lie?
6. What if Smaug was a different kind of animal?
7. What if Víli, father of Kíli and Fíli, was still alive when they leave for the quest?
8. What if Middle Earth was more modern than Tolkien let on?
9. What if Elves can’t tolerate water (maybe it burns them or harms them in some way) ?
10. What if one of the Hobbits is cursed with saying everything the opposite of what they mean? (fe yes means no, I’m sleepy means I don’t want to go to sleep)
11. (your own What If question)

I’m an 18+F who’s dying to do an OCxCanon RP for The Hobbit. I do doubles so please just let me know who you want me to play (or if you want a throuple pairing) and im down for anything!
I'm looking for someone to play ideally Kíli but I’m also down for Fíli or Thorin against my OC. My OC is a human female who’s 20-21 so there’s a bit of an age gap there with Thorin so pls be okay with that <3. Im looking for drama and angst and secret romance and the more theatrical and dramatic the trope the better!
Like I said I can play anyone for your OC if you want or we can do OC x Canon x OC too!!
I love talking OOC and creating playlists and moodboards for our characters!! Let’s create a whole universe with memes and a bunch of headcanons together! I use discord or google docs primary and I tend to get carried away with my answers so please try to match me!!

X - XOXO
Tumblr media
Ah, it's the teacher AU.
@laurfilijames, @lordoftherazzles, @linasofia here is the monstrosity that has grown roots in my silly brain!
Words: 2 k (yes, I know, I am sorry)
Characters: Thorin, Fíli, Ori, Boromir, Legolas
Warnings: It's a Modern!AU, it has too many plot points, and it's entirely idiotic
Tumblr media
“We have to do something,” Aude declared confidently, leaning over the rickety cafeteria table. “I can’t watch that poor man suffer like that.”
Boromir frowned; he was not the kind of young man who liked to meddle in other people’s love affairs, mainly because nothing could fool him into believing that he was managing his own very well so who was he to help someone else?
“I’m in,” Legolas hooted—he, on the other hand, was a kid who loved meddling and he was not above trying to give one of his favourite teachers a boost.
“Let’s say,” Aude interrupted his effervescent joy pragmatically, “we set the concert as a deadline. By the time we go on the excursion, I want melting gazes and seemingly accidental touches to be the standard. Are we agreed?”
Their little ragtag group of friends did not dare disagree with her when she got into one of her organisational moods and so, they simply nodded and started planning their devious machinations.
Tumblr media
It had all started earlier that day.
While they had been a close-knit class for a few years, the teaching staff responsible for them had changed this semester—much to the chagrin of Boromir and Legolas.
Their new foreign languages teacher was a frightening lady, crackling with intensity, and her rather harsh methods had given them quite a jolt in the beginning.
Thus terrified by the educator who was unfortunately also responsible for the choir part of their annual concert, they had been considerably confused by the unusual reaction of their trusty, beloved English teacher when said Xanthippe had knocked on the door to inform them that choir practice would start a little late due to some unforeseen scheduling issues.
As the school was indeed much like a family and the teachers were known by their first names, the youngsters—first and foremost, eagle-eyed Aude—had had no qualms whatsoever to tease Mister Ori about his bashful blush at the sight of the newcomer.
After all, for the longest time, the rumoured dalliance between Mister Fíli—giving workshop classes—and their gym teacher Miss Rena had been the only source of gossip the voraciously inquisitive minds of the youngsters had fed on.
Consequently, it was totally unsurprising that they pounced on this new knot of tension like starved hyenas as soon as they got the first whiff of it.
“Boromir?” Aude leaned over while the flustered English teacher ran after the bits of chalk he had dropped in his nervous haste. “Your brother is in the theatre group, right? We need to have a meeting over lunch—I think Mister Ori has a crush on the dragon-lady.”
Grimacing as the extent of Aude’s plan dawned on him, Boromir thought that—by the time she and Legolas were done plotting—they’d have Miss Libby serenade their mousy, distracted, touchingly kind English teacher.
As he leaned back and gave Mister Ori a compassionate smile, he had to admit to himself that he couldn’t wait to witness the trainwreck those hellish women would bring upon as many poor, unsuspecting, soft-hearted men as they possibly could.
Tumblr media
“They’re coming along nicely,” Rena sighed as she wiped the back of her neck with a soft towel. “I wonder if the new economics teacher will attend.”
“Hmmm?” Libby looked up from the piece of paper that had made its way mysteriously into the stack of lyrics she distributed and collected diligently at the beginning and end of every choir practice. “I think the headmaster has invited her personally, so yeah, it would be rather rude not to come and clap politely.”
“Politely?” her friend and colleague, who was responsible for the dance act, asked pointedly. “I am convinced of the talent and skill of my group. Do you have qualms about yours?”
“Not in the least,” Libby denied weakly. “Here, look at this, do you know what this is?” She held out the intruder amongst the bent and worn pages in her hand accusingly.
After taking a single look at it, Rena chuckled wryly. “Yes, I do, and so do you.”
Even though polite and supportive, Rena didn’t lose time pretending and dissimulating—especially not at this time of night, alone in the auditorium.
“It’s a page out of the play they’re putting on,” she muttered, inspecting the page more carefully now. “And there is a note in the margin saying ‘Meet me in the teacher’s lounge tomorrow at 15 o’clock. XOXO’. I wonder what that is about…”
“Well, it surely wasn’t meant for me,” Libby dismissed the whole thing frantically; already, she sorely regretted having shown this awful missive to her friend.
From day one, Rena had been a much-needed and trusted ally in Libby’s awkward navigation of a completely new school where everyone seemed to know one another from birth; thus, she merely ducked her head and didn’t contradict.
“Lib, it’s not from or for one of the students; they have no access to that room. Moreover, there is no other member of the teaching staff scheduled to be in the auditorium today. If it was meant for anyone, it was meant for you!”
Setting the piece of paper aside carefully, Rena stalked towards her friend on her long, nimble legs. “I’ve heard through the grapevine that you’ve interrupted class today.”
Scandalised, Libby denied having done anything even remotely disruptive.
“What grapevine? Did you hang out with Fí again? He’s one of the only teachers they had this afternoon.” Libby narrowed her eyes—at her previous post, nobody had ever taken such a vivid interest in the lives and proclivities of their peers, and she was not entirely sure that she liked being the subject of gossip.
“Oh no,” Rena grinned, “it’s much more interesting than that. So, the new economics teacher has complained to the headmaster—she is in that office all the time, I swear—that the class was being particularly unruly today. So, Thorin goes to check on the class while they’re walking over to Fíli’s and guess what he overheard?”
Libby waved her hand with as much nonchalant indulgence as she could feign.
“Apparently their English teacher has had a visit from—sorry for the wording—the Dragon-lady and the poor man—bless his soul—didn’t manage to get back his focus for the rest of the lesson. Isn’t that interesting?”
“I…” Libby started and then relapsed into petulant silence; those miscreants were lucky that she had not learned about this before choir practice.
“Do you deny it?” Rena was having entirely too much fun with this.
“No, I don’t. Now, dear, your petty narration does not explain how Fíli’s knowledge was imparted to you though, does it?”
“Ah,” the amazingly brazen Amazon purred, “we were having a little chat in the courtyard…about maybe joining the excursion. I surmise that you’ll be there to chaperone and hound the kids?”
Nodding tersely, Libby waited to see where her friend was going with this.
“Maybe, whoever wrote you this note also only wants to talk about the excursion?”
“As what you call ‘talk about the excursion’ seems to be code for another word containing the letters ‘e’ and ‘x’ in that order, I highly doubt that,” Libby hissed.
“I wish…” Rena grinned; she had much more knowledge than she led on, but—as a trained and experienced athlete—she knew that sometimes, one had to pace oneself if one wanted to make it across the finish line. “So, was it strictly necessary for you to go and startle poor Ori?”
Swallowing fitfully, Libby tried to mobilise the brusque façade behind which she habitually hid her own insecurities. “I had no way of knowing that he’d be that upset by a minor interruption; it’s not as if I knew him well—he seems to avoid me as much as possible.”
Hopping onto one of the props and crossing her legs slowly, Rena leaned towards her friend. “He’s a local boy, Ori, I mean. Fíli talks about him a lot.”
“Ah,” Libby interjected with a knowing smile. “Why are you telling me this? It’s highly unlikely that the one colleague who seems to profoundly and viscerally dislike me would invite me to a meeting, isn’t it?”
“I don’t think he dislikes you,” Rena jeered, “but—in the name of friendship—I’ll investigate a little deeper. By the way, do you mind him terribly?”
“Rena,” Libby sighed, “I would not have chosen his class to burst into if I did not enjoy his blundering, stammering sweetness at least a tiny bit.”
Nodding her head sagaciously, Rena gave her a provocative smirk. “I’ll see what Fíli can tell me about it…”
Tumblr media
“Hey Thorin,” Fíli grinned as he passed the new economics teacher, a truly handsome lady, on the threshold of their headmaster’s office.
“We’ve come to sign up for the excursion,” he announced with a flourish, dragging Ori in by the sleeve of his sempiternal woollen cardigan like a reticent child.
“You’re too old and I am quite pleased with the results Miss Libby is achieving,” Thorin replied sternly. “I’d rather not overtax the woman in her first year at our school with having to oversee that many hormone-fuelled savages.”
Fíli laughed. “Fair,” he admitted, “but I’ve come to offer my services as a chaperone, yes, that is quite right. Me. I’ve even convinced our resident homebody to pack his seven cardigans in various shades of beige and join us. Wouldn’t the presence of the best English teacher be a monumental advantage?”
Thorin paused and pondered that assertion for a long, silent moment before nodding slowly.
“It’s funny,” he then said in a low, languid voice, “you’re not the first to volunteer for the least sought-after extracurricular activity of this year. Though the other two were ladies of course. Seems like we’re well-matched then—the poor students won’t know what hit them.”
“How so?” Fíli asked immediately, his face gleaming with interest and curiosity.
“The new economics teacher and Miss Rena have volunteered as well.”
“The gym teacher?” Ori squeaked, visibly cowed by that idea.
“Well yes, Miss Libby was the first to sign up and Rena thought that she had to keep an eye on the new girl for fear that she’d get cannibalised by our students.”
With a throaty chuckle, he turned his attention back to the papers on his desk, signalling that this interview was at an end and that he had other matters to attend to.
Tumblr media
“Aren’t you off now? Care to go over to the bakery and have a coffee?” Fíli asked his colleague who was dragging his feet as they made their way back down the administrative wing of the school building. “I would very much like to know why the mere mention of the Foreign Languages teacher makes you break out in nervous hives; I’ve known you all your life, my boy, and I know when something is up!”
“Erm…” Ori stammered. “I found a note among my papers of yesterday that told me to come to the teacher’s lounge at 3.” “A note? Do you know from whom?”
Ori shook his head miserably; there had been no person who could have slipped a note pertaining to that kind of meeting other than Miss Libby. She had been in his classroom the previous day—she had stood so close to the desk that he had been able to smell her dizzying perfume and unfortunately, he had truly not paid any attention to what she had been doing other than crowding him.
Secretly, he so desperately hoped that it was indeed her who wanted to see him—even if it was about the class, or toilet paper, or the weather—but he didn’t dare believe it, especially as the note was signed “XOXO” which didn’t seem to be her style at all.
“Well, how about you see what it’s all about and I’ll wait in the bakery?”
Ori looked past his friend through the high window front to see the gym teacher sprint across the street to said locale and he understood.
“Yeah sure,” he acquiesced kindly, “see you later.”
Muttering to himself to be brave and firm, Ori entered the teacher’s lounge…and promptly collided with his most dreaded colleague.

Office’s light
Tumblr media
Relationships: Fíli x female OC
Content: Modern AU, Office AU, smut
Infos: This smut story takes place in my other story “Office’s treasure” with Alice (OC) and Kíli. You can read it here.
Summary: Everyone had always left the office but Emma is still in there, looking for a file in the archive room. She didn’t expect Fíli to help her to find it.
On AO3
Tumblr media
Friday evening was Emma's favourite moment in the week, after the weekend of course. However, when she found herself in an archive room looking for an old information for more than an hour, it was her least favourite moment.
“Why didn't this company have all its data in computers?!” she shouted, her voice echoing in the room as she thought of her friends surely drinking her second or third beer at that very moment.
Except for Thorin Durin, the boss of Erebor Corp. who was still in his office like a second home, Emma was the only one still working. Her manager, Dori, asked her to find a file before leaving, and she already let Thorin know she would stay here for a while. A necessary file for an important project. She wasn’t okay with that, even less now she spent a long time trying to find it, but she had made a mistake during the day and she understood when Dori had asked her.
So, she shouted once again.
“Why is this accounting file so difficult to find?” she shouted as she hit the cardboard box in front of her with her fist.
Why just hit the box? Why not the shelf? Ouch, the shelf was a bad idea. It hurts.
Now, she was upset, and her hand hurt.
The moment she was about to give up, a knock on the archive room door made her jump. She expected Thorin telling he was going to leave but to her surprise, she heard another voice asking if everything was alright as he entered the room.
Fíli, the handsome, blonde man she couldn’t help but dream of, was closing the door behind him as she watched him hidden by the cardboard box shelves. His presence here surprised her. Why was he there? She was sure he already left at the same time as everyone else. She was sure because she couldn’t help looking at him every time she could see him. Who wouldn't? It would be a waste!
Anyway, if we come back to what she had before her…
Fíli walked to her behind a shelving unit. His eyes couldn’t hide the surprise to find her here, alone with a lot of open boxes on the floor around her. After his surprise passed, he let out a laugh.
“I know the accounting department loves organisation, but I’m not sure this is the best time to organise the archives room,” he said with a cocky smile she would see for another thing that to make fun of her.
“I know,” she sighed as she looked at all the open boxes on the floor. “I made a mistake by indicating an approximating data in a file and Dori isn’t ok with that. He wants the exact number of a trade made so long ago that your great-grandfather was managing the company.”
“Ouch. I guess you’re here for a long time then. Let me help you. What are you searching for?”
Fíli’s help surprised her. They never worked together. Why does he want to help her while he has nothing to do with this? She sighed once again before answering him.
“Don't pity me. I will manage. It shouldn’t last much longer.”
“All the more reason for me to help you. Besides, I have nothing to do tonight,” he said as he removed his coat and his jacket’s suit.
Emma had to force herself not to look at his slightly open white shirt without it being inappropriate. She never saw him wear something else than a suit, but she knew it was her favourite outfit on him. Suit trousers were perfect on him.
“Oh that’s right, Kíli told me he would go for a drink with Alice,” she said with a smile. “I hope they’re fine!”
“I’m sure they are,” he said, smiling at her with his handsome bearded face. “So, what are you looking for?”
After she explained to him the file she searched, he helped her while they were talking about anything and everything.
Emma had never been alone with him, especially as close as they were. They already talked when she was chatting with Kíli, or chatted by texts after they decided to go on a hike with the four of them, but never alone together in a room. Her proximity with him made her as nervous as aroused. She almost didn't want to find the file to enjoy the time with him.
Their discussion ended up stopping and they focused on the searching. Contrary to his brother, Fíli likes when it’s quiet but here, it made him a little anxious. Finding himself next to the most beautiful woman he ever saw in a small room, alone together, didn’t help either.
He couldn’t help but raise his eyes to her from time to time, seeing her seriously searching for her file. He had never been so glad to have forgotten his phone on his desk; although he had realised it very late. If it meant he could spend some time with Emma, he would lose his phone more often!
.
At some point, Emma found the file she needed. She finally decided to let him know as soon as she found it. Maybe she could invite him to have a drink to thank him and spend more time with him. She didn’t know the time, but it shouldn’t be so late, right?
“I found it!” she said with a big smile as she turned toward him with a smile.
“Great!” he said as he stood up from the floor he was sitting on. “I started to think we would never find it! We just have to put all these boxes away and we’re good.”
“Yeah, thank you again,” she said as she looked at the file.
“Let me see it. I want to see what I spent my evening for,” he laughed as he walked close to her.
His closeness made Emma’s heart beating way too fast than she wanted. She always knew controlling her emotion but with him, it was easier said than done. As she wasn’t moving, Fíli took the file in his hand, touching her fingers at the same time.
Her cheeks she controlled until now blushed gradually and her eyes raised up to Fíli’s face, closer than she thought.
Nevertheless, Emma wasn’t the only one to freeze. Fíli’s fingers were still on hers when she met his blue eyes. How could she have a skin so soft and hot despite the cold air of the room?
Fíli wasn’t like his brother. He wasn’t able to express his feelings as easily as him. He couldn't approach a woman and tell her she was so beautiful that he couldn't think normally when she was close to him.
But he knew how to act. And seeing the light in Emma’s eyes before him, her blushing face and her tongue licking her parted lips, he wanted to act.
Dropping the file, he placed both his hands on Emma's cheeks to draw her lips to his. As he thought, they were delicious.
In no time at all, Emma let the file fall on the floor. She wouldn’t miss this opportunity for the world!
As she replied to his kiss with as much desire as him, she felt his beard prickling a little but didn’t care about it. When she slipped her arms around his neck and ran her hands in his hair, she didn’t expect it made him groan. From now on, she decided it was one of her favourite sounds.
Quickly, he released her cheeks to run his hands on her body. In a few moves, he pressed her against the wall behind her.
The room was all but quiet anymore. Emma’s moans echoing quietly in the room when Fíli lowered his lips on her jaw, then her neck. Unconsciously, she grabbed his hair firmly and his groans increased. Weakness n°1 found!, she thought gloriously.
With another hand, she removed his shirt from his trousers and slipped it under. She could feel some shivers at the contact of her fingers on his skin.
Pressed against each other, it wasn't the only thing she could feel. His trousers were too tight for what was growing inside and she could easily feel it. Her arousal was only increasing for her as well. Especially when Fíli’s hand unbuttoned her shirt to find her breasts. He didn’t unbutton all; they didn’t have the time for that. He did just enough to taste her nipples already awake.
Fíli regretted where they were but not what they were doing. He couldn’t take his time, but that didn't mean he couldn’t stop here. He wanted her now more than anything.
Emma had never been so glad to wear a skirt when Fíli slipped his hand under it. She always knew he had thick fingers but on her buttock, it was something else. It was making her so aroused that she pressed herself against him with a leg wrapping his.
Her action made Fíli’s lips come back from her nipple to her lips. He kissed her like she was going to leave and they would never see each other, like this was the only time they could do that together. But Emma didn’t want to think of that for the moment. After a small backward movement, she reached his trousers to open it.
After unbuttoning and unzipping it, she was about to slip her hand under his underwear but a knock on the door made them both jump.
“Emma, are you still here?” a low man voice asked.
“Y-yes! I’m still here, sir,” she hurried to reply to Thorin before he opened the door. “Please don’t open the door, I have put boxes in front of it. A-and I found what I was looking for. I just have to put everything away!”
“Alright, don’t forget to turn off the lights when you leave.”
“Of course, sir!”
Then, she could sigh as she heard his footsteps moving away. Now, it wasn’t Fíli’s fault if her heart was beating fast. She couldn’t imagine Thorin’s face if he would have opened the door.
Meanwhile, Fíli used the opportunity to slip a hand from her thigh to her womanhood. A low moan escaped her mouth before understanding what he did. He easily found her little bud among her folds.
“You’re a very good liar, Emma,” he said in her ear as he lowered his lips toward it, making her shiver from his breathing on her skin. “Even in this kind of situation, you can act normally. It’s impressive!”
As he was talking, his fingers slipped from her bud to her entrance. He could feel her desire and her wanting to go further, so he didn’t waste more time and plunged one finger in her.
Emma’s breathing cut for a moment, and she restarted to breathe when his finger went in and out at a regular pace.
“How can you be this wet with just a kiss?” Fíli murmured, still in her ear.
“Maybe because I have been thinking of this since you walked into this room…” she replied as she could despite the second finger he added inside her.
The sensations he gave her were too much for her. Even if he still wore his shirt, Fíli could feel her nails digging into his skin. Thorin already left but they weren’t safe from someone else interrupting them because of a forgotten object in the office, so Emma was biting her lips to contain any sound she could make.
When Fíli saw it, he stroked her lips with his thumb and removed his fingers from her womanhood.
“Don’t hurt yourself, Lukhdel…” he whispered as he kissed her again, licking her damaged lip. “If you want me to stop, tell me.”
He moved back just enough to let her speak and looked at him. The expression on her face showed anything but refusal. She wanted this as much as him.
In a rapid move, she bent down to take off her thong from her skirt with a proud smile.
“Should I help you or are you going to take your trousers off by yourself?” she said with a seductive tone which made Fíli’s trousers tighter.
This simple question was enough to make him remove his trousers and his underwear as fast as he had never done. Emma couldn’t help but lick her lips at the view of his hardness. Everything had happened quickly and she realised now what was going to happen here. She was truly about having sex with the handsome man she always wants since she started working here.
His blue eyes came back to hers, making her shiver of desire before reluctantly moving back to his bag in a corner of the room. Oh right, a condom. They needed a condom. Emma almost forgot it and it would be a bad idea. She was glad he still had his capacity to think, unlike her.
When he came back with the condom on, she couldn’t help but look at it.
“Should I let you watch it or are you going to let me resume where we were?” he said with a cocky smile she hurried to hide with her own lips.
Pressed once again against each other, Fíli didn’t wait to slip his hand under her skirt and pull it up higher. Her moans resumed when his hardness rubbed her womanhood. The sound she made aroused Fíli more than she wanted and he couldn’t wait longer to be inside her.
In a few moves, he took her legs to place them around his waist and pushed into her as slowly as he could, not wanting to hurt her. Luckily for them, the wall was solid, and Fíli was surprisingly strong enough to hold her.
Patience had long since abandoned him, so he couldn’t wait to thrust into her at a slow pace before gradually accelerating. By dint of his powerful back and forths, her heels ended up falling to the floor with a low sound compared to their whimpers. His name continuously escaped her lips when his lips lowered to her neck.
“Oh Mahal, it feels so good into you…” he panted in her neck, without reducing the pace.
Overwhelmed with pleasure, Emma had lost her ability to speak long ago, but when he slowed down, put her feet on the floor and withdrew from her, she let his name escape with interrogation.
The astonishment on her face made him smile. Again his cocky smile.
“Turn over, hands on the wall,” he said as he moved back to make her room. “It will be easier like that for both of us.”
Her arousal couldn't get any higher. She complied with his request without saying a word. She barely put her hands on the wall than Fíli was already into her again, resuming the same previous pace. Their heights were perfect. The right height to bury her to the hilt again and again.
Even though Fíli would take his time with her and show her what she deserved, they had to finish quickly. His hand on her sensitive pearl made her walls contract and her hips moving at a complementary pace than his.
When her climax came, waves of pleasure ran in every part of her body, transporting her in a full bliss, forgetting everything around her except Fíli.
With her walls tighter than ever and her spasms of pleasure, he could hold on any longer. A few powerful thrusts at a merciless pace with his hands firmly grabbing her hips was enough for Emma to hear her name in a low groan behind her as he released himself.
When he stopped his moves, Fíli bent over Emma and kissed her from her back to her neck. The delicacy of his kisses warmed Emma's heart.
“I’m going to the restroom, hoping no one is there,” he murmured, out of breath. “I’ll come back quickly.”
After a new kiss, he removed slowly from her and took his clothes. Once he left, Emma turned over to lean against the wall. She had to catch her breath and put her mind in order. Everything happened so quickly, as if she fell asleep and woke up from a wet dream. Except the sensations in her body showed her the opposite of a dream.
She ended up finding her thong on the floor, buttoning her shirt back, and putting on her shoes. Once her mind was clearer, she did her hair like she could and checked her makeup, in case she met someone outside.
.
At some point, she heard Fíli coming while he was talking with someone. When he entered the archive room where Emma was sitting in a chair, she saw him talking on his phone. To his mother if she heard him well. Following the tone he used, she needed his help for something and he didn't seem to want it.
After hanging up, he walked to Emma with sorry eyes.
“You’ll hate me, and I could understand it, but I have to go. My mother needs someone, and no one answers their phone,” he said as he slipped his hand on Emma’s cheek. “I– would. I shouldn’t leave like this.”
“It’s ok. I’ll take care of all of this,” she said, showing the boxes on the floor.
“I wasn’t talking about this. Mahal, this family will make me crazy! Concerning the boxes, leave them like this. I will help you Monday. And if Dori says something, tell him it’s my fault.”
“I don’t know how I’ll explain to him,” she laughed. “But alright. See you Monday”.
The last sentence Emma said stuck in her throat. What could she answer? She wasn't even his girlfriend. Why would she make a scene?
Even if Fíli's departure was sudden, she didn’t want to look troubled. The thing that comforted her was when he helped her to stand up and kissed her in the same way he had previously. The same desire he had when he was into her, as if he never had enough of her. It’s a good thing, isn't it?

Note: I’m not used to write a Fíli smut story… I tried to write him differently from Kíli and Bilbo because Fíli is very different from them, right?

Playing With Fire ~ Chapter Twenty
Dunraven Pub - Modern AU
A/N: A bonus chapter today because when I was revising Chapter Nineteen, I realized it was a monster of a chapter and so broke it into two. Enjoy!
Summary: Thorin Durin likes his life just the way it is—his pub is successful, he’s happily playing the field when it comes to women. He wouldn’t change a damn thing about it. At least, not until he meets Leda Andrews, who stops to help him when his car dies on the side of the road.
Leda is new in town, and late for a job interview when she stops to help a guy with his broken down old car. The last thing she expected was for him to be the same guy who owns the pub where she’s applied to be a bartender, never mind to be one of the hottest men she’s ever seen.
Sparks fly, and while Leda’s got a few ground rules that Thorin is more than willing to abide by, neither one of them expected their fling to turn into anything more serious, or that they would be faced with a situation neither one is prepared for. So, what happens when a no-strings-attached affair teeters on becoming the real thing…
Summary: Leda finally meets Thorin’s family, and it doesn’t quite go as well as either she or Thorin hoped it would…

When she opened her eyes, Leda was alone in the queen-sized bed. The windows were cracked to let in a hint of frosty air, which made snuggling under the covers even cozier. Sunlight poured in through the panes in the French doors leading to the balcony, and she had no desire to move.
Besides, her stomach bubbled liked mad and she felt better if she lay perfectly still.
Perfectly…
… still—
“Oh, God!” She lurched from the bed, and made it to the bathroom just in time as her entire body revolted. For the next ten minutes, she did nothing but heave and sweat, until she was positive she’d been turned inside out and twisted into knots like a wrung-out towel. Her stomach still jumped. It kinked. It clenched. But thankfully, she wasn’t sick again. She sank back against the cool tile and pressed her cheek against it. She’d bought that What to Expect book and although she’d read up on morning sickness, she’d so hoped she’d be one of those lucky women who didn’t suffer from it, despite what Mary told her.
It was not meant to be.
Finally, when she was pretty sure she wasn’t going to be sick any more, she dragged herself up to brush her teeth, then went back to crawl into bed once more. She didn’t want to move, but really had no choice. She was meeting Thorin’s family, which probably didn’t help her angry gut at all.
“I meant what I said last night. I’m not looking to meet your mom or dad or your brother or sister or their families. You’re not meeting mine.”
And yet, that’s exactly what she was doing in less than three hours. It was his nephew Fili’s twenty-first birthday and she had no idea what she’d been thinking when she agreed to go with him. Meeting his family. Almost entirely moved in with him. All that was left was marriage and death.
She scowled as her stomach lurched. Okay, maybe that was a bit much, but still… six months ago, she would have laughed in the face of anyone who suggested she’d find herself in this very situation. Besides, it was probably just nerves all around. She hadn’t expected so much change in so short a time span.
Her stomach calmed enough where she could move, so she rose and padded back into the bathroom to get the shower started. As she waited for the water to warm up, she dug out the scales, pulled her clothes off, took a deep breath, and stepped onto it.
“What the fuck?” She glared at the readout. “Six pounds more? It was just four the other day. Where the fuck did these last two come from?”
She didn't know why she was surprised. This was the week she accepted that she couldn’t fasten her jeans anymore unless she used a rubber band. Only ten weeks in and she threw in the towel, began wearing leggings instead of Levi’s to work, all the while wondering if anyone noticed. She hoped not. They already busted her balls over dating Thorin, what would they do when they found out she was having a baby with him?
“Don’t think about that.” The shower hooks rattled as she moved the curtain to step into the warm spray. Hot water washed over her, washed away the last of her nausea as she lifted her face to it.
The curtain rattled again and she smiled as Thorin angled his big body in behind her. He slid his arms about her waist. “I thought I heard you moving around. How’re you feeling?”
“You’re safe. I’ve already barfed and brushed my teeth.”
“You’re almost there, mesmel.”He gently squeezed her, then splayed his hands along her lower belly. She peered at him over one shoulder. Water already beaded across his shoulders, the steam made his wavy hair curl even more. He looked almost good enough eat. Damn hormones. All she wanted to do was fuck him. Not make love, like they suggested in movies, but fuck him like she’d done the night with the scarves. She wanted to throw him down on the nearest flat surface and ride his cock until they both screamed from the pleasure. And while she didn’t think he’d mind it, the fact that she might also throw up from the motion remained a very real fear and that he would definitely mind.
“Can you feel anything?” She covered his hands with hers. “Because I feel huge. That lying scale said I’ve put on two more pounds.”
“It’s your mind playing tricks on you, love. And maybe I should hide the scale for the next six months,” he said, his fingertips brushing from hip to hip. Then, his smile widened and his hand went flat against her. “But… there is a small bump, amrâlimê.”
“What?”
He turned her toward him and then crouched so he was eye level with her stomach. “You’re starting to show already.” A hint of wonder crept into his voice, one that made her heart actually skip a beat.
“What? But… the book said most women don’t show this soon, that first babies take forever to pop.”
“You’re one of the lucky ones, mesmel.”
As he spoke, he looked up and the wonder she’d heard in his voice was matched by the same in those steel blue eyes eyes and it snatched the breath from her lungs and made her eyes sting. Stupid, fucking hormones!
“One of the lucky ones?” She curved her hand against his cheek, his beard softer from the water, but still on the scratchy side. “I don’t know I’d go that far."
“Yeah, one of the lucky ones. I think it’s beautiful.” With that, he brushed his lips over her lower stomach, then straightened up to loom over her.
She looked down at her slightly rounded stomach. It was never perfectly flat, but now it definitely seemed rounder than usual. “I feel like an elephant.”
His arms tightened about her. “Well, you don’t look like one. You’re the same sexy biker chick you were when we met.”
She gazed up at him. Water droplets clung like silver beads to the dark hair across his chest. “I know I sound like a whiny little needy bitch, but really?”
The skin at the corners of his eyes crinkled as he smiled. “Really.” His hands slid down over her ass, cupping her cheeks to pull her closer. “I’d do you.”
“Funny.”
He winked, then bent to kiss her. It started out innocent enough, but not five minutes later, he lifted and lowered her easily as he thrust into her. And when he came, he took her with him, growling, “Leda…” as he did so.
She trembled in his arms, her head spinning. “Damn…”
“That’s right.” His laugh came soft against her ear as he set her down and reached for her shampoo. He lathered her hair, saying, “Tilt,” so he could rinse it and as warm, sudsy water sluiced along her ears, she thought she could be quite happy right there, just like that, forever.
An hour later, they were pulling up in front of a dark gray Colonial in a tree-lined cul-de-sac. Thorin explained they’d be celebrating at his brother Frerin’s house, since Dís and her sons shared a townhouse that was short on both space and parking. As she stared over at the gray  house with the dark red shutters and dark red flowerpots on either side of the wide front porch, Leda swallowed hard as her stomach swiftly knotted once more. Although part of her did want to meet his family, the other part of her urged her to run like hell in the opposite direction and never look back.
Still, there she was, slipping her hand into Thorin’s, letting him steer her up the flagstone walk to the dark red front door, smiling as a tall woman with beautiful auburn hair said, “Oh, my God… do my eyes deceive me? Did you bring a girl, Thorin?”
“Funny.” Thorin tugged open the storm door with his free hand. As the woman stepped aside, he gave a gentle tug on Leda’s hand to urge her into the house as well. “Toni, this is Leda Andrews. Leda, my sister-in-law, Toni. Don’t let her give you the third degree.”
Leda smiled as Toni’s hazel eyes slid in her direction. They were friendly and warm, as was her voice when she said, “It’s very nice to meet you, Leda. That’s such a pretty name.”
“Thanks. My dad was a history nerd who convinced my mother to name me that. He told me it was the name of a Spartan queen, the mother of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra. I think he had high hopes for me.”
Toni laughed as the door banged shut and she closed the inside one as well. “He put a lot of thought into it, as it’s very unusual.”
“Tell me about it. I could never find anything with my name on it when I was a kid.” She looked up at Thorin, who winked and she added, “Thorin’s talked about you and your family so much, I feel as if I already know you.”
“Well, the opposite is true for me. Here, let me take your coats,” Toni said, gesturing toward the sunken living room. “He’s been amazingly tightlipped about you. Come on in, and make yourself comfortable. What can I get you to drink?”
Leda shrugged out of her coat, which Thorin took, handing both his and hers to his sister-in-law. “Just water is fine, thank you.”
“Thorin?”
He offered up a long look. “Seriously?”
“Right.” Toni winked at him as she stowed their coats in front closet. “Show her it’s okay to sit, Thorin. I’ll go get your brother. Last I checked, he was playing chess with Flynn.”
With that, she disappeared into the kitchen, while Leda followed Thorin into the family room. “You haven’t even mentioned me?”
“I haven’t really had a chance to. I haven’t talked to Frer in a while because we both run like maniacs.” Thorin gestured to the dark brown velour sofa. “And I haven’t said anything about the baby, either.”
She settled into the comfortable cushions with a sigh. “It’s probably just as well. That will lead to a million and one other questions.”
“Exactly. And I don’t mind putting them off for a little while longer.”
“You and me, both.”
“Thorin?” A tall man who looked like a slightly thinner, slightly shorter version of Thorin, only with much shorter hair, strolled into the family room. He held out a hand. “Oh, you must be Leda. It’s nice to finally put a face to the name. I’m his brother, Frerin.”
A face to the name? She shot a look at Thorin, whose eyes were almost perfectly round as he stared at his brother and gave a subtle shake of his head.
How did Frerin know her name, if Thorin hadn’t mentioned her to him?
A sour taste rose in her mouth. This was the brother who was a doctor. Had Thorin mentioned anything to him at all about her being pregnant? He just said he hadn’t mentioned the baby to anyone in his family.
Her stomach clenched but thankfully, she remained outwardly calm as she stood to shake his hand. “It’s nice to meet you, Frerin. Like I said to your wife, Thorin’s told me so much about you, I feel like I already know you.”
Two girls came into the room. One had to be Thorin’s niece—she had the same dark hair and piercing blue eyes as both Thorin and his brother did. The other one was taller, with honey brown hair and she did a literal double-take when she saw Thorin.
“Hey, Dad, can I go to the mall with Holly?” She looked over at them. “Hi, Uncle Thor.”
“Not now, Moira,” Frerin said. “Everyone else will be here soon.”
Moira rolled those pale blue eyes. “When isn’t everyone here?”
“You could try being polite, you know.” Frerin reminded her in a low voice. “Leda, I’d like to apologize for my daughter. Moira, this is Leda. She’s a friend of Uncle Thor’s.”
Although she still looked pouty, she nodded. “Hi, Leda.” She gestured to her friend. “This is Holly. Holly, this is Uncle Thor’s—ah—friend, Leda.”
While Holly greeted everyone, Moira stared balefully at her father. “So, I can’t go?”
“No, you can’t, but Holly is welcome to join us for dinner.”
Moira turned to Holly. “Want to stay?”
She shrugged. “Sure.”
“Okay. Come on.”
Moira turned back toward the staircase and as they left the room, Leda grinned as Holly muttered, “Damn, Moira, I forgot how fucking hot your uncle is.”
“Holly!”
“Well, he is. Tell me I’m wrong.”
“Shut up.”
Thorin chuckled as Frerin mumbled, “Son of a bitch,” under his breath.
“Don’t worry about it.” Thorin draped his arm about her shoulders. “They’re fourteen. They think every guy over the age of eighteen is hot.”
“I’ll remind you of that when you’ve got kids of your own. And besides, you’re way over the age of eighteen. You and I are old guys compared to them.”
“Yeah, but I don’t look it,” Thorin replied without missing a beat. “Now, you, on the other hand…”
Leda bit back a smile. If she didn’t know Thorin was the oldest of the three of them, she wouldn’t have guessed it on her own. True, there were those silver streaks in his dark hair, but Frerin had them as well, and from the looks of it, a lot more of them. Either way, Thorin did not look to be nearly forty on his worst day.
With a low sigh, Frerin moved to sink onto the arm of the sofa. “She’s growing up too fast. Has a boyfriend now and Toni found condoms in her sock drawer when she was putting away laundry last week. Fourteen years old, man.”
Leda shrugged, her hand resting on Thorin’s thigh. “Maybe they handed them out in school. I think they do that now during health class.”
“That’s what she said, but I don’t know… you see her friend… girls didn’t look like that that when I was fourteen.”
“You shouldn’t be looking at her at all, freak.” Thorin brought his left foot up to rest on his right knee. “I’m surprised Toni hasn’t kicked your ass.”
“Funny,” Frerin replied drolly, his expression grim as he went on, “They’re here all the time, man. Last summer, I had a dozen of them hanging out by the pool and Toni would lose her mind if Moira wore what those girls were wearing. Or not wearing… Flynn almost drove the tractor into the big oak near the woods because he wasn’t paying a damn bit of attention to where he was going.”
Leda sighed. “Boys stare no matter what.”
“Yeah, but still…”
Toni came into the room carrying a pint glass of dark stout and a glass of ice water. “Is Holly staying?”
“Yeah. Moira wanted to go to the mall, but I told her no.” Frerin took the beer from her to pass to Thorin. “It was my way of compromising.”
“I don’t like that girl.” Toni handed the water to Leda and sank into the matching armchair on the far side of the glass coffee table. “Since she met her, Moira only cares about two things: boys and makeup. And did he tell you what I found in her drawer?”
“Did you ask her where they came from?” Thorin brought the glass to his lips for a long drink.
“She said Health class, but she’s got a boyfriend now and I… I just don’t know what to think about it.” Toni tucked a lock of dark red hair behind her ear. “Do me a favor and don’t say anything to your sister. I don’t want her lecturing Moira in front of everyone, and we all know she’ll do just that.”
Thorin nodded. “My lips are sealed. Besides, once she sees Leda here, I’m pretty sure I’ll be her favorite target once more.”
Leda sipped her water as the conversation turned to Dís and her two boys, who were doing their best to follow in Thorin’s footsteps, apparently and their mother was at her wits’ end with the way they ran about and with the girls running with them. Leda had yet to meet either of Thorin’s nephews, as they only worked on their breaks from school, but if they were even a fraction as attractive and charming as the older generation of Durins, any girl in their sights was doomed.
Her gut twisted when she heard a car pull into the driveway and a moment later, a small, dark-haired woman, and two men, both about the same height, one blond, one dark, came into the living room.
“It’s about time,” Frerin said, pushing up from the sofa arm. “I thought you got lost.”
“I had to stay and talk to one of my professors,” the blond said, glancing over at them. “Uncle Thorin? Who’s this?”
Leda swallowed hard, willing her stomach to remain somewhat calm as Thorin stood and walked over to his nephews and clasped the blond’s hand. “Fíli, Happy Birthday. How does it feel to be legal?”
“Like I’m going to have to work more now that break is just about here. But,” Fíli smiled, “At least I can have a shot or two after work with you guys.”
“Only if you let your brother drive,” the small woman told him.
“After one shot, ‘amad? How much of a lightweight do you take me for?”
“It’s not worth the risk.”
Kíli chuckled. “Nice. You’ll be at my mercy for a change.” He glanced over at Leda. “Who’s this?”
Thorin smiled. “That is Leda. Leda, my sister, Dís, and her sons, Fíli,” he gestured to the blond, and then the brunet, “and his brother Kíli.”
Leda smiled, swallowing hard at the brackish taste flooding her mouth as Dís sharp eyes moved slowly over her. Somehow, she had the feeling Thorin’s sister could see right through her, and could actually see the baby.
But then Dís smiled. “So you’re Leda. It’s nice to finally meet you.” She crossed over to clasp Leda’s hand with both of hers. “Thorin’s told me about you.”
This was news. Leda looked over at him. “You have?”
“Well, yeah. I might have mentioned you once or twice.”
She smiled. “But not to Frerin?”
“I talk to him maybe once a month, but Dís calls me an average of five times a day. You were bound to come up.”
“I do no such thing.” Dís shook her head and turned back to Leda. “Ignore him. My brothers are asses. Both of them.”
“Me?” Frerin pressed a hand to his chest. “What did I do?”
“I’m sure there is something I’ll find out about.”
Thorin slid his arm about Leda’s waist and gave her a gentle squeeze. “Dís forgets she's not our mother from time to time.”
Kíli snorted. “I wish she’d forget she’s mine sometimes.”
“Kíli!” Dís reached up and smacked him in the back of the head. “Mind yourself.”
“See?” Kíli scowled as he rubbed where his mother had hit him. “She’s mean.”
“Mean. Me?” Dís shook her head. “Just you wait. Someday, you’ll have sons of your own and I hope they are just like you.”
Fíli chuckled. “An empty threat, ‘amad.”
“You say so now,” she replied, shaking her head, “which will make my I told you so even sweeter when it comes.”
Toni came into the room then. “Ah, I thought I heard the three of you arguing. What is it this time?”
“My sons, as usual.” Dís said this with a smile, turning to Leda as she added, “They live to make me crazy.”
“And we’re very good at it,” Kíli added, a devilish glint in his dark eyes. “You’re the newest bartender at the Dunraven, aren’t you? I remember Dwalin mentioning a new girl with pink hair.”
Dís looked up at Thorin. “An employee, Thorin?”
Leda’s gut twisted sharply and the nausea returned, only held at bay by Thorin’s growled, “Not the time or the place, Dís, and definitely none of your business.”
Dís looked from him to Leda and sighed softly. “No. I don’t suppose it is. And either way, I am happy to meet you.”
Leda breathed a soft sigh of relief as Frerin’s sons came into the room and the younger one challenged his cousins to a game of pingpong in the basement. She leaned against Thorin when they returned to their seats on the sofa, and the conversation turned away from her and the Dunraven to other, slightly more boring topics.
It was an interesting evening as everyone else chatted almost nonstop, at times almost shouting over one another. They were a loud, boisterous clan who and they all seemed to genuinely like one another, which was odd to her, considering her family gave dysfunctional a whole new meaning.
After dinner, they did cake for Fíli and gifts and then Dís sighed as both of her sons excused themselves, citing papers each was writing that were due before midnight to their respective professors.
“So, tell me,” Dís’  hand came down onto Leda’s wrist, “how long have you and Thorin been seeing each other?”
“Since September, more or less,” she answered, glancing over at Thorin, who’d gone into the family room with Frerin. Toni was in the kitchen and Moira and Holly had retreated back to Moira’s room, leaving just Leda and Dís in the dining room.
“September! So, why didn’t he bring you to Moira’s birthday dinner?”
Because we were just fuck buddies then. She certainly couldn’t say that, so instead, she shrugged. “It wasn’t serious then. We’d just started—ah—seeing each other and everything.”
“You have no idea how much of a surprise this is. My brother doesn’t ever bring a date to family gatherings and I’ve always wished he would, so this is wonderful. I do hope he brings you around again. One of our cousins’ wives is due in mid-February, so we’ll be having a shower for her. I’ll make sure Toni sends you an invitation.”
A baby shower? She didn’t want to be caught dead at something like that, but she certainly couldn’t say that. All she could do was smile. “That sounds great. Thorin has my address.”
Dís’ smile widened. “Wonderful! I look so forward to seeing you there. It’s been forever since he’s had a girlfriend and the last one was just awful… Oh, I won’t go into details, but she really wasn’t good for him. But I don’t get that feeling about you. In fact, I’d go out on a limb and suggest he actually seems happy— much happier than I’ve seen him in a long time.”
“I hope so.” Leda fought the urge to fidget under Dís’ piercing blue eyed gaze, because she again had that feeling Thorin’s sister could see right through her—right through her, through her clothes, could see the baby itself—and she held her breath waiting for her to say something about it.
But if she was going to say anything, Dís had no chance, as Thorin strolled into the dining room. “You aren’t giving Leda a hard time, are you, Dís?”
Dís sat back in her chair. “Not at all. I was just telling her I’ll make sure Toni sends her an invitation to Corrine’s shower next month. You should settle down with her.I like her, Thorin. It’s nice to see you with someone who doesn’t take their clothes off for a living.”
“Dís, that was ages ago. Get over it.”
“She was a whore.” Dís’ voice was flat and hard. “Plain and simple.”
“Enough. Not the time or the place.” Thorin’s hand came to rest on Leda’s shoulder. “You ready to hit the road, mesmel?”
She nodded. “I think so. I have to be at work for noon.”
Thorin winked. “I know the owner. I think he’ll be okay if you came in a little later.”
Dís chuckled. “You never learn, do you? What happened with the other bartender? And the waitress before that? You’re going to run out of employees, if you aren’t careful.”
Leda’s gut kinked sharply, a sour taste rising into her mouth. As soon as the words left her mouth, Dís’ expression grew pained. “Oh, damn it all, I’m sorry, Leda. I didn't mean that quite the way it came out and it sounded a lot better in my head.”
“And that’s really where it should’ve stayed.” Thorin narrowed his eyes at her. “Regardless, it’s more than enough, Dís. If you really want to make this your business, I’ll let you in on a little secret.”
With that, he leaned over and in a low voice, growled, “I asked her to live with me. So, I think this is a little more serious than my flings with a bartender and waitress.”
A scarlet flush swept up into Dís’ cheeks, all the way to her hairline, and when she looked over at Leda, it was with a look of utter remorse. “I am so sorry, Leda. I’m such a jackass at times who needs to think before I speak.”
Leda really didn't know how to respond. Her instinct was to agree with Dís, but seeing as how they just met and she had the feeling there’d be many more gatherings like this one in the coming days, she decided to take the high road. Besides, she actually did like Dís and it was hard to fault her for being so maternal with Thorin. There were times when it seemed he needed someone to keep him in line, and somehow, she thought that role often fell to his sister.
Either way, it wasn’t worth getting angry over, so she shook her head. “It’s okay. I may have said the same thing to him once or twice myself.”
Dís smiled, clearly relieved. “Is he for real, though? Did he really ask you to move in with him?”
“He did and I said I would.”
“So,” Dís turned her smile to Thorin, “does this mean we might be hearing wedding bells in the future? You don’t even like having women at your house for an afternoon, never mind living with you.”
Thorin rolled his eyes. “Leda is the exception to the rule and I like having her there. And as for wedding bells? Don’t you worry about it, little sister, because that’s really none of your business.”
Leda bit the inside of her cheek to keep quiet, to keep herself from telling Dís to mind her own fucking business. But, to her credit, Dís looked chagrined once more. “You’re right. It isn’t and I’m sorry. I’ll keep my nose where it belongs.”
“Good. Besides, you just got finished saying how you like Leda, so let it go.” He gently squeezed Leda’s shoulder. “So, we’re going to go before this gets out of hand.”
“It was nice meeting you, Dís.”
“Likewise, Leda. I’ll remind Toni.”
Leda nodded and let Thorin steer her back to the family room, where she said her goodbyes to everyone else, and when they were tucked back into his Mustang, she sighed. “Your family really is nice. A little overbearing, maybe, but still nice.”
“They’ll make you crazy in no time flat.” He slid the key into the ignition and kicked over the engine.
“Ah, it wasn’t so bad. You all seem to like each other and that’s a good thing. We don’t all have families like that.” She shifted to glance at him. “What did you tell Frerin about me?”
“What?” He depressed the clutch, shifted into first, and eased away from the curb.
“He knew my name, Thorin. He knew my name and I saw how you looked at him when he used it. So, what did you tell him?”
“Nothing. Why?”
“He knew my name, that’s why. And I hadn’t been introduced to him and his wife said you hadn’t mentioned anything about me. So, how did he know?”
He looked over at her. “I asked him about the morning after pill.”
Her gut kinked. “You did what?”
“He’s a doctor, Leda. I wanted to know how effective the morning after pill was.” He shifted into second. “For all the good it did. You still ended up pregnant, so, I should’ve saved myself the lecture from him.”
She could only stare at him. “So he knows I’m pregnant?”
“No. He knows it was possible that you were. But, since I haven’t said anything else to him,  he probably figures it worked.”
“Why would you do that? Why would you ask someone else something so personal? And it wasn’t even about you.”
“Because he’s a damn doctor, Leda. An OB/GYN, that’s why. He’d know.” He shifted into third. “And what the fuck do you mean, it wasn’t about me? I’m the baby's father, remember? It’s almost as much about me as it is about you.”
“It’s—Christ, Thorin, this is no one else’s business and now…” She rubbed her eyes with one hand. “And what happens when I have the baby? Will your sister refer to me as a whore as well?”
At the intersection of Grove and Main, he slowed for the light. Lightly drumming his fingers on the steering wheel in time to the Creedence song on the radio, he said, “Maybe we should get married, then. Save ourselves the drama and the hassle.”
Forget twisting into knots. The pit of her stomach fell clean away. “What?”
“It’d be a lot easier for everyone. Baby’s not out of wedlock. My sister won’t have a stroke. My brother won’t care that we were fuck buddies once upon a time. No one will ever question it.”
An icy chill sank into her. “Wait… he knows about our agreement?”
She watched as a dull flush rose along Thorin’s cheekbones. He didn't say anything at first, but just looked ahead, waiting for the light to change.
“Thorin? Did you tell him?”
He flinched. “I—I might have.”
“You might have? You might have told your brother that you and I were nothing more than fuck buddies until you got me fucking pregnant? Are you fucking kidding me? Why? Why on earth would you do something like that? What were you thinking, Thorin?”
“At the time, we weren’t going to be anything more and who knows how long it would’ve lasted.” Now he looked over at her. “At the time, I didn’t think you’d ever meet them because you were pretty damn clear about not wanting anything to do with them. Remember? I’m not meeting your family. You aren’t meeting mine.”
“Oh, Christ… Thorin…” She sank against the seat, a hand clapped to her forehead. “I can’t believe you told your brother about that…”
“He doesn’t care, except maybe he was a little envious at the time.”
“A little—Thorin!”
He winced. “I know. I’m sorry… but I think he was.”
“I cannot believe you would do such a thing… it was no one else’s business.”
“Trust me, if I’d thought we were going to end up here, I never would’ve said anything to him. But I didn't know.” He reached over and let his hand come to rest atop hers. “So, why don’t we just get married?”
“And make it easier on everyone, right? That’s why you want to this now?”
“Well, yeah… it would, so… yeah.” He nodded.
“Easier for everyone. That’s your reason.” Her mouth went dry and that sick feeling returned. He didn’t want to marry her because he loved her. Because he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
He wanted to make it easier on  everyone. Bullshit. He wanted to make it easier on himself.
“Yeah,” he went on, without looking at her, “easier. I mean, they’ll know you were pregnant at the time because you’re due in six months and we’d only be married that long, but as long as it’s before the kid arrives, no one will care.”
“That’s, like, the shittiest reason ever to get married,” she told him flatly, turning back to stare out the window at the storefronts. “So your sister doesn’t get upset. So your brother doesn’t—I don’t even know what… Fuck me, are you serious? You don’t want your sister mad at you. You don’t want anyone in your family to know you’re going to have an illegitimate kid?”
“Why’re you getting angry? I thought this would make it easier on you as well.”
Her stomach curdled, the nausea returning, swift and sour and she swallowed hard against it. “You don’t give a damn about that. All you care about is making it easier for you. Just admit it.”
“No, I care about making it easier for both of us.”
“And that’s why you suddenly want to marry me.”
“What’s wrong with wanting to make things easier?”
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me, Thorin.” Fury bubbled up, thick and hot. “You don’t want to marry me because you want to be with me. Because you love me. It’s because you’re afraid someone will be, what? Upset with you for having sex outside of marriage and be faced with the proof that you did? When did it become anyone else’s fucking business, is what I want to know?”
The light turned green and he gunned it. “I didn’t say that, though,” he growled, his voice low and gravelly. “And of course I love you. I’ve said it, haven’t I? More than once, no less.”
“You might as well have and so what? You didn’t say that’s why you want to marry me, though. Your reason is because you’ll avoid any drama that way. What a shitty reason to give when you suggest getting married.”
“Why are you getting so upset? It will make things easier. Mahal, I can’t wait for your hormones to level off.” He angled the car into his driveway. “Do you have any idea what it’s like dealing with you when you’re this moody?”
“Yeah, well do you have any idea what it’s like dealing with you when you're acting like a total asshole sometimes?” To her horror, tears pricked her eyes. “And you know what? I don’t want to get married just to make your life easier. This whole thing is one big fucking mistake! I don’t want to go to another family dinner, where your sister thinks she’s being magnanimous because she likes me simply because your last girlfriend was a fucking stripper—and I don’t want to know anything about her, either. And it’s really none of her fucking business whether or not we have any plans to get married, and I also don’t want to sit at some stupid baby shower! And I don’t want to marry a man whose only reason for asking me to marry him is because he’s terrified of what his sister thinks about him having a sex life! Because seriously, that’s fucked up.”
At the garage, he killed the engine and she shoved open her door. Her bike was in the garage, so she popped the handle and slid the carriage door open. Without turning off the headlights, Thorin jumped out. “What are you doing?”
“I’m going home. I just don't really want to be around you right now.” She wheeled her Harley out, balancing it between her legs as she tugged the helmet on. “Do you know how it feels, to know you’re with me because you’re afraid of what people will think otherwise? Because I’ll tell you, it feels lousy. Absolutely awful."
“Is that what you think? That's the only reason I’m—Leda, this is nuts. Hold on. Just—hold on…” He straddled the front tire, holding onto handlebars. “You’re upset. I’m upset, let’s just go inside and go to bed. We can talk about it in the morning, when we’ve both cooled down.”
“Cooled down? Do you think that’s going to change what you said to me? Or how hearing it made me feel?”
“What I said—? What the fuck did I say that upset you so much?”
She held his stare easily even as those fucking tears blurred her vision. “It’d be a lot easier for everyone. Baby’s not out of wedlock. My sister won’t have a stroke. My brother won’t care that we were fuck buddies once upon a time.”
He winced. “Leda, you know what I meant.”
“No. I know what you want me to think you meant. But, the truth is you don’t want to marry me for any of the right reasons, which means you don’t want to marry me at all. Because if you did, you would have said it was because you loved me, because you wanted to be with me, because you couldn’t see yourself with anyone else. Christ, if I wasn’t pregnant, we’d still just be fucking in your office or my apartment, wouldn’t we? There would be no dates. There would be no bringing me to birthday dinners. There’d be no living together.”
“So, if that’s true,” he countered, his voice sharp, “why did I ask you to live with me, huh? If I just wanted to make it easier for me, why did I ask you that?”
“Because I’m fucking pregnant! Otherwise, no one at the Dunraven would ever know about us. Your family wouldn’t know I even existed. It would be you bending me over the arm of the sofa in your office and hoping like hell no one walked in on us. It would be you leaving my apartment in the dead of night, after getting what you wanted. It would be me walking in to find you fucking someone else on your desk and all you’d do is ask me to close the goddamn door on my way out. The only reason you gave me that crap about not wanting to be with anyone else is because of this baby and that’s no reason to stay together. It’s actually a really shitty reason.”
“Me fucking someone—god damn it, Lacey told you about that, didn’t she?”
“Does it fucking matter?” Her throat squeezed tight and to her irritation, her eyes began stinging. This was not how tonight was supposed to end. “And I noticed you didn't say it wouldn’t happen again, did you?”
“Do you want me to?”
“Not if it’s a fucking lie, I don’t!” She kicked over the bike’s engine. “Look, the fact is, you don’t really want to marry me, at least not for the right reasons. So, why are we even doing this?”
He released the handlebars and stepped back. “I don’t know, Leda, why are we? You’re going to believe what you want to believe and I’m too tired to keep fucking arguing about it.”
“Fine. At least now you’re finally being honest with me.”
She regretted her words the second they leapt from her tongue, holding back a wince when Thorin’s face went blank. He stepped away from her bike, folding his arms over his chest and just offered up a frigid glare. “I’ve been nothing but honest with you, Leda. Since the beginning. But, you want to believe the worst about me, go ahead. I’m obviously not going to change your mind.”
“Good. I’m glad we understand each other then.” With that, she nudged the throttle and lifted her feet, leaving behind a swirling dust cloud in her wake as she rode down the driveway and out to Route Seven.

“You’re staring again,” she said without taking her eyes off the page of her book. As handsome and charming as her companion was, the story she was reading was too intriguing and she really wanted to know what the heroine would do next.
But there came no response to her comment and eventually her curiosity got the best of her. She peeked over the edge of the paper, straight into the bright blue eyes of her intended.
“See? I knew I was right,” she teased with a smile.
Fíli chuckled, the sound reverberating in his chest, making her smile even wider. There truly wasn’t a lovelier sound.
“Such beauty as yours is meant to be admired, ibrizinlêkhê, you cannot fault me for doing so.”
She twirled a lock of hair around her finger as she resumed her reading, a blush colouring her cheeks at the given praise. Even after months of courting she still wasn’t used to the numerous compliments Fíli showered her with.
“Your hair’s getting quite long,” Fíli commented as he let his fingers glide through her deep brown curls. “I suppose it’s almost time to cut it again.”
She didn’t miss the disappointment in his voice, even though she knew he’d tried to hide it. She usually let her curls grow until it reached her shoulders, or until it was at ‘proper Hobbit-length’ as she’d always say, before the scissors would appear. Even though Fíli knew hair wasn’t as important to Hobbits as it was to Dwarrows, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness every time his future wife took out the scissors.
But now it almost brushed her collarbones, the longest it had ever been and Fíli loved it. How the curls danced around her face as she was running around the kitchen, cooking yet another feast, or how they framed her perfectly round face as she was engrossed in one of her books, shielding her from prying eyes. His fingers itched to braid her auburn locks, to take three strands and weave them together, following an all-too-familiar pattern, sealing it with a bead containing his sigil and making her truly his in the eyes of Mahal. But he respected her too much, and the last thing he would want for her was to abandon her own culture.
“About that…” she began, pulling him out of his thoughts. She went to the heavy wooden chest of drawers, took something out of the top drawer and placed it in his hand with a shy smile. A pair of scissors.
Fíli’s eyes went wide at the suggestion. “You cannot ask me to… I can’t-”
He loved her with all his heart, she was his whole world without any doubt, and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do if she asked him to, but this request was really pushing his limits.
The Hobbit girl laughed, her giggles like tiny bells in the evening breeze, and she folded her small hands around his large one holding the scissors, closing it with an encouraging squeeze.
“I don’t want you to use them,” she reassured him, “I want you to keep them, since I have no need for them anymore.”
Fíli stared at her, his features twisted in confusion, before he realised what it meant. He dropped the scissors and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into his chest, the book she was reading toppling to the ground but neither of them noticed. As he let go of her, his hands moved from her waist to cup her cheeks, brushing a strand of hair out of her face with his thumb.
“I know how important this is to you, and your kin. You’ve done so many things to make me feel at home. So I decided I wanted to grow out my hair, long enough for you to braid it. And I think we’re there, don’t you?”
Fíli positively beamed with happiness, blinking a few times as if he couldn’t believe what had just occurred. He closed the already small distance between them with a small tug, and kissed her hard, a kiss full of passion and promises and want.
As they separated, both catching their breaths, he took something out of his pocket, and opened his hand, revealing a silver bead. “I’ve carried this with me ever since we started courting, but I never thought... Ibrizinlêkhê, would you do me the honour of letting me braid your hair?”
She smiled, her eyes a little teary at the sheer happiness and nodded.
“Always.”

an introduction to fiddy (fíli x paddy (my dwelf oc)), my sweet little queerplatonic ship of two characters that i find very comforting :')
this is pretty long! it's all under the read more :)
my fanfiction about them
art of them
art of paddy (and tauriel)
art of paddy, fíli, and kíli
art and ship meme of fíli and paddy
art of paddy
art of paddy when she first met the dwarves
more art of paddy, fíli, and kíli
background :
- fíli is a dwarven prince and heir of the line of durin (a very important bloodline). he is travelling on a quest to retake erebor, his family's ancestral home, alongside his uncle and younger brother and a group of other dwarves (and one hobbit). he is 82 years of age, which makes him a young adult (for dwarves)
- paddy is a dwelf living alone in a part of mirkwood that isn't as affected by sickness as the southern parts. she doesn't know she's half dwarf but she knows she isn't an elf either. she was raised by the elves of mirkwood but without much warmth or love, and she has also been in contact with the woodsmen that also reside in the forest. she has built a small home for herself in a clearing and is living a quiet uneventful life away from civilisation. she is 87 years of age, which makes her a young adult. she matures slower than dwarves, but faster than elves, so despite being older than fíli, she feels closer in age to kíli
how they met :
- while the company was lost in mirkwood, the ri brothers split from the rest of the company (due to having a bit of a fight with fíli and kíli (they were all intoxicated with sickly forest fumes)) and went on their own way until they wandered close to paddy's home. paddy heard them and followed them, not knowing what type of people they were (she had never met dwarves before). fíli was also tracking the ri brothers alone, knowing he shouldn't have lashed out at them now that his mind was clearer, and he spotted paddy following the brothers. not knowing whether she was a foe or not, he snuck up behind her and put a blade to her neck as he made sure she's not armed and interrogated her as to why she's following his friends. once he realised she's not dangerous, he let her go and was much more polite to her, and being very excited to meet dwarves for the first time, paddy invited fíli and his friends to her home where she could feed and host them. fíli left to consult his uncle about this matter, and returned to paddy with the entire company behind him. then they made their way to her home which was not far off, but not without encountering dangers along the way.
their first bonding experiences :
- after learning that paddy is unable to read and that she can't read an inheritance letter she had received, fíli and kíli offered to read it for her and together the three of them learnt that paddy was part dwarf and that her dwarven parent had passed away, leaving behind a set of powerful runestones as paddy's inheritance, alongside some gold coins.
- paddy fed and housed the company for the night and she was immensely happy and excited to meet them and to learn more about them, but by the end of the day after the dwarves had gone to sleep, she became overwhelmed and retreated to her chambers and found herself crying. she had learnt a lot about herself in a very short time, and fíli and kíli offering to help her read her letter was the first real experience she had with people being kind to her, which made her realise she'd been lonely and isolated this entire time, and that she wouldn't be able to go back to her normal quiet life once the dwarves left her in the morning.
fíli couldn't sleep easily that night, and he wandered around for a bit and heard paddy crying in her doorless hut. he tries to console her and brings her water, and they talk for a long while that night. fíli tells her about his mother and about kíli, and about how he wishes he could remain in this refreshing clearing for a while longer, but he doesn't say a word about the quest he's on. paddy pleads him to let her come with them, at least to help guide them out of the forest (although she's never left the forest herself), and while fíli thinks thorin wouldn't agree to have another member join the company, he thinks that a guide would be most welcomed. fíli takes a while giving paddy a definite answer though, and in the meantime he offers her his fur coat and one of his silver beads, seeing as she was cold after giving all her blankets to the many dwarves she was housing, and her loose hair was tangled and messy. paddy didn't know how to braid her own hair or how to use the bead, so fíli helped her with it and put her hair in one simple travelling braid, just to keep her hair out of the way and not have it tangle anymore. he doesn't tell anyone about this, not wanting his actions to be misinterpreted as anything other than friendly kindness, but the next morning everyone notices fíli's bead in paddy's hair, and kíli teases him endlessly about it.
how it's going :
- guiding the company through the forest, paddy and fíli have plenty of opportunities to learn more about one another. when they get imprisoned by the elves and fíli sees how unkindly they treat paddy, he realises that he can't leave her living here all alone surrounded by people that look down on her and mistreat her based on being part dwarf, and he secretly makes up his mind that he wants to help her find a better home. he doesn't tell her or thorin about this, but kíli can read his mind quite well and supports him in his decision (kíli and paddy had also become good friends almost instantly!)
- onwards to laketown, paddy does all she can to help treat kíli, but her healing abilities aren't enough, since she could never receive proper training for her skills. thankfully, tauriel was there to save kíli's life. afterwards, paddy tends to kíli by keeping him well fed and hydrated and warm, and she does the same for fíli (who had gotten sick due to the stress and anxiety he was feeling for kíli)
fíli had hoped that perhaps paddy could find her place amongst the people of laketown, but seeing the true nature of the master disappointed him greatly and he knew he can't leave paddy here either, especially when she was determined to stick by his and kíli's side no matter what. when the town is attacked by smaug, fíli and the others manage to escape to the safety of the shores, and once again fíli hopes he can leave paddy here with the survivors and with bard. at this point he doesn't know what he'd find in the mountain, and if thorin is alive, fíli knows he wouldn't be the same anymore due to probable goldsickness and that he wouldn't accept paddy, so with a heavy heart fíli tells her to go "home". paddy respects his decision and leaves the brothers, and starts making her way towards a different direction from them.
- however, paddy couldn't return to her old life, and she finds herself walking towards erebor. fíli and kíli had already reached the mountain at this point, and paddy knew she can't let herself be seen, otherwise she'd be disrespecting fíli's wish of her leaving his side (she doesn't know this was not his wish at all and that he was doing it purely for her safety), so she spots a tower. ravenhill. and she enters it, and stays there for days. she stays there for a long time before she hears people approaching loudly. she hides as orcs scout the tower and set traps. she doesn't move for so long, and she's terrified. but once she hears fíli and kíli enter the tower, she knows she has to warn them, so she leaves her hiding spot and goes to them as quietly and as fast as she can, and tells them about the orcs. they all quickly exit the tower and in the end, they all survive, though not without serious wounds.
- after recovery, fíli is now certain that he can't turn paddy away again, and he decides that he will do anything to have her stay, even if it meant fighting with thorin. thankfully, this won't be necessary as thorin had changed immensely and is no longer suffering from goldsickness, and he realises that fíli's decisions are valid and deserve being respected. kíli's as well.
they all work hard to rebuild erebor, and paddy makes herself useful everywhere she can. however, she's scared of underground places, and fíli notices this and once again, he wonders if it's cruel to have her stay in erebor if she's so scared. but paddy will not leave his side, and she braves her fear for him. fíli plans to build windows in as many chambers as he can for her.
what the future holds for them :
- fíli will be crowned king of erebor one day, and paddy will be there to support him as any friend would. she hadn't known he was a prince until late into their journey, and finding out about his royal descent made her panic and feel unworthy of him, but she vows to be his friend no matter what and she wants to support him in anything he does. on the other hand, fíli doesn't want to force this kind of stressful lifestyle on paddy and on kíli, and he wants to offer them as much comfort and freedom as possible by taking all the responsibilities upon his own shoulders, task which he will find difficult considering both paddy and kíli want to help and support him as much as possible. together they form a close bond, and slowly but surely fíli learns to accept paddy into his life. he now realises that he wants and needs her in his life, seeing as she's the most genuine friend he's ever had and they both find comfort in one other. paddy doesn't see him as a prince, but as a regular soul not much different from herself, and that helps fíli relax and be himself around her—something that he greatly appreciates.
their relationship forms slowly and gently. neither of them has had a relationship before and they're very mindful of not causing any discomfort to one another, and paddy really doesn't want to ruin fíli's reputation. but they are friends and partners before all else, and when dís meets paddy, she quickly realises that fíli has met his one, and that they will be inseparable from now on.
what paddy feels for fíli is immense. she sees him as someone special, someone magical and worthy of all the love and appreciation she can give him. she sees a beautiful soul in him and she wants to help him see himself the way she sees him so badly, and fíli feels the same about her! he thinks she's so special, and so different from anyone he's ever met before. he's protective of her just as he's protective of kíli, especially since paddy doesn't defend herself. she cannot fight and she doesn't defend herself from verbal insults either, which in turn makes fíli be much more vocal than he normally is. they both help each other gain confidence in themselves.
they are both acespec (fíli is asexual and paddy is demisexual) and their relationship is more platonic than it is romantic, although they are very affectionate with one another. they keep their affections private and only act upon them in their own privacy, never doing more in public than holding hands or sharing a hug. anything intimate they do is between themselves only.
- they go on to have five daughters: four biological, and one that is adopted. the adopted one is the only one that is a full dwarf, and she is also the youngest of them all.
- the eldest is Háni, and she inherited fíli's blonde hair and grey eyes. she wears her hair in a similar style as his, with royal braids on the sides of her head and one braid at the back of her head to signify she's an eldest child in a family of multiple children. she's a very polite and calm person, and she's very interested in the history of her people and in becoming a good future queen. she's very attentive with her younger siblings.
- the second eldest is Lóvi, a more fiery soul with a love for music and baking. she has light brown eyes and warm brown hair which she wears in royal braids as well, along with bows and other hair accessories. she's quite trendy. she's charismatic, but she isn't very fond of her status and doesn't enjoy the political affairs she has to partake in, though fíli never forces any of his children to partake in their royal duties if they don't want to.
- the middle child is Díli, and she inherited paddy's dark hair and personality very much. she is very quiet and lost in her own imagination most of the time, and prefers the outdoors. she loves insects and critters and all outdoor life. she has no mind for politics whatsoever, and she wears her hair in two low braided pigtails. she is also the tallest out of all of fíli's and paddy's children.
- the fourth daughter is Líki, who fíli named after kíli (of course), and who coincidentally takes after kíli a whole lot. she's very energetic and causes a lot of trouble, and she's also the most emotionally explosive out of all her sisters. she wants to be a great archer like her uncle kíli, but lacks the patience and discipline needed to use a bow, which frustrates her. she spends a lot of time with kíli and her cousins! she wears her hair loose, but fíli manages to get her to tie it in the back at least, so that her hair won't get in her face. she has brown hair and grey eyes.
- the youngest and the only adopted child is Elí, a dwarfling with deceased parents that fíli and paddy adopted when she was but a pebble. she's a very happy soul and very well behaved, and although she has had health issues as a youngling, she's gotten better under her new parents' attentive care. she has a biological aunt named Myndis that keeps in touch with fíli and paddy, and who visits Elí often. Elí has blonde hair and blue eyes, and big round ears.
- no one knows this, but fíli has secretly written his will even though he is still Very Young. as soon as he found out he would be a parent, he didn't want his child to have the same pressure placed upon their shoulders as he had, and he wrote his will so that if anything happens to him, the crown would go to kíli until his child would be old enough to decide whether they want the crown or not. fíli has immense faith in kíli and genuinely believes he would make a superb king, he really believes in his brother and knows that he is the only one capable of mending the bad blood between their people and the elves. he really really believes in kíli. (but of course, nothing happens to fíli and he lives a very long life with his family! he's just being very very cautious as usual)
that would be all for now! thank you for reading this far!! :D

Even Autumn Can't Compare
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/0pa2BFD
by Mossy Oak Tree (A_Mossy_Oak_Tree)
A gay one shot about Legolas and an OC because I'm terrible at x readers. But I have only ever found like 2-3 gay/queer shots (not even stories) for any of the The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings characters.
Our favorite dwarven bloodline is still alive because the boys dying destroyed me. Fuck yourself Azog (Azog is my worst hear me out character-).
Honestly this will probably be all over the place because I am, so let's just ride the roller coaster together shall we?
