[Image ID: A page from “Except for Palestine” by Marc Lamont Hill and Mitchell Plitnick which reads: Scholar Helga Tawil-Souri wrote, "Gaza may force us to glimpse into the heart of darkness, but it equally reveals the heart of humanity that never gives up. Gaza is not a footnote, it is the larger than life shadow of the colonizer's fear: a people that cannot be quelled.... Gaza is larger than life: captivating, awesome, mythical, mesmerizing, extraordinary, impressive, monumental, unreal, burdensome, miraculous, and most of all, durable. Gaza is our obligation."]

All the negative reviews are either completely racist and homophobic (*fake cries* waah it's those evil Arabs who are homophobic and mean, my ethnically pure Israel is so nice!) or mad "Palestinians are evil and think Israel shouldn't exist! 😠" or "you're only talking about the settler colonial violence inflicted!!! It's one sided"
It shouldn't exist, hope that clears it up. Die about it.

to any americans who feel "paralyzed" and "dont know what to do" to help with gaza:
reading a fucking book. i beg of you.
in a time of knowledge suppression is it your duty to arm yourself with knowledge.
read about americas occupations in the middle east.
read about 9/11 from outside of america and see how they inflicted senseless harm and violence to countless amounts of people and have been suppressing your rights for the past 2 fucking decades.
read about any of the countless wars from the past 30 years. especially from a civilian's. and the victims and survivors' perspective. listen to the horror stories and do not plug your fucking ears as to what your country is doing.
and read about fucking gaza and palestine and keep up with what is happening no matter how "sad" or "uncountable" you might get.
dont look away from this.
you dont have the right to be comfortable during countless active genocides.
if you're knowledgeable, you're powerful, and our current state doesnt fucking want that.
you have the power to change things if you open your eyes and scream to the world.
wake the fuck up.
Edit: please check the reblogs there are readings and ways to help

BOOK 20: Except for Palestine by Marc Lamont Hill and Mitchell Plitnick
I've been on a mission to read more about Palestine and the United States' role within the larger struggle. This book really contextualizes a lot of the liberal hypocrisy when it comes to the conditions that Palestinians face as a direct result of US foreign policy. I do wish that the authors would have gone into greater detail as to WHY the Palestinian people are the exception to many liberals' support of human rights around the globe. However, it was still a very useful book to read about the historical US positions in relation to Palestine. Definitely use this book as a jumping off point to get more informed about Palestine, and then go read books from Palestinian authors!

a girl i went to high school with is on holiday to the US at the moment, and she recently posted a photo of her in front of the White House, smiling. I can't stop thinking about it, because my first thought seeing it was "what is there to smile about?"

Interview: TRT News
Last week, I spoke with Ghida Fakhry on her show, Inside America. We discussed the world’s reaction to Israel’s murder of Shireen Abu Akleh and the disgraceful assaults visited upon her mourners at her funeral. It’s wroth watching the whole show, as she also spoke with Adam Shapiro of Democracy in the Arab World Now (DAWN) and Laura Albast of the Institute for Palestine Studies. My segment starts…

israel is going after journalists (to make sure that there's less dedicated reporting coming from gaza) and their families (to intimidate the surviving ones into backing off). even recently as yesterday, israel bombed the family of al-jazeera's bureau chief in gaza. they've bombed major bakeries that were still functioning and providing food to the locals. and as we all already know, israel turned off food, water and fuel supply to the entire strip (to starve the gaza population). gaza's hospitals are ceasing to function because of limited fuel. read this article. medical supplies are running low, and doctors are saving up anesthetic drugs so a lot of minor surgeries are being done without anaesthesia. no one can tolerate surgery without anesthesia but especially think of the children (since half of gaza's population is children). just because israel says that gazans need to evacuate hospitals doesn't mean that they have the resources to do so. evacuate where? they're bombing hospitals, entrances to hospitals and surrounding areas. thousands of ppl are crammed together into hospitals taking shelter and diseases are spreading. doctors are afraid to speak up, and those doing so are doing so anonymously because they think they're being targeted by israel. nearly 50 doctors have been killed in airstrikes so far. or doctor's have been losing their families in israeli airstrikes. it genuinely looks like israel's goal is not only to ethnically cleanse the population but to emotionally demoralize anyone who's left surviving. and don't even try to be that person who mentions hamas or the israeli hostages under this post. how is doing any of this helping the hostages?? or even helping israel root out hamas? "but the hostages" "hamas is using gazans as human shields"... y'all are beginning to sound a lot like "but iraq is carrying weapons of mass destruction". remember that one? and remember all the destruction and loss of civilian life that lead to. DON'T BE THAT PERSON.
