So Ida called up the closest women in her life and asked them to meet her at Enchanted Events to do a little wedding planning.

Brooklynn was delighted. She'd long awaited this day, first vocally, and then privately after it seemed each query just ended in an argument with her daughter. Meanwhile, Estella and Esi were excited for the excuse to take family vacations to picturesque Sulani.

Ida bought cupcakes to sweeten their planning session, but Brooklynn decided to cut one of the display cakes and tuck into that instead. (She had shamelessly pretended to be an interested customer in front of the saleswoman). When Estella gave her a questioning look, Mrs. B reminded her tartly that when you get to a certain age, you can do whatever you want.

By the time Jude finishes his account, Maliyah is all fired up. "Oh, I am going to go have a talk with that teacher!"

A little more measured, Esi wonders why Jude kept engaging Pauline and responding to her in mischievous ways. But as if to emphasize his angelic halo, he begins clearing away the dishes.

Easter

“Hey sis! I’d ask how you’re doing, but... I can see you look terrible.”

“Thanks for that.”

“Let’s get you checked out. Hmm, nothing between the ears  - that’s perfectly as it should be. Well, have something to eat while I go mop a puddle real quick.”

(Poor Ida. Esi [read: me] misdiagnosed her after all that, and she left looking even more miserable.)

On Saturday, Coach Butlaire had the kids practice out in the Spice District to familiarize them with the environment and the court before they would come up against the legendary Timberwolves there the next weekend.

"Nice one, bud!" a familiar voice shouted as Jude executed a beautiful jump shot.

Eyes shining, he pushed back the hair plastered to his forehead and looked up to see his Auntie Ida hurrying across the street.

She joined her sister and sister-in-law on the sidelines to watch the kids play. "Y'all didn't tell me you'd be here today!"
