So- update:

Got a text out of the blue from a dear friend the other day who just moved and was asking if I wanted her old American Girl Dolls because she’s downsizing. She provided me pictures of an Elizabeth and a JLY 6. I enthusiastically agreed- but I already have Elizabeth so what was I to do?

I was looking at the JLY 6 when it hit me… she kinda looks like Angela Lansbury… and my absolute favorite musical of all time not only stars Angela Lansbury in its OBC, but also possesses generations of stunning costumes across multiple productions. Elizabeth sort of looks like a performer I was fortunate enough to see live in 2017, Eryn LeCroy (who went on the play Christine Daae in Phantom 💕)

NOTE: if you’re under the age of 16, this musical is very dark and I’m not recommending it for you, hence me not naming the show (still easily guessed from context).

ALL of that being said, I will be adding Miss Johanna (Elizabeth) and Miss Angela (JLY) to my home in the coming days and I’m working on making costumes accordingly. I also splurged and decided to make a dress for my JLY 29, Scarlett, based off of Helena Bonham Carter’s performance. Will also not be naming the JLY 6 after the character because “Nellie” is already taken.

ALSO, I wanted to note… I despise when people take children’s toys or products and make them “adult” or edgy. These dolls will not physically reference any of the darker material in the show such as gore- they will only resemble the ladies and their dresses above. I adore Sondheim musicals, a number of the actors who have performed these characters, and this show means so much to me. I also think it will be a fun challenge (specifically HBC’s because movie budget costume, WOW).

Do you know if there’s a way to find out every main christine/raoul/phantom that’s been on broadway?

This page has a pretty good list of all the main actors for a lot of productions, including Broadway. Now bear in mind that it only goes up to 2013 for Broadway; the comments below it may have additions. Also note that this list goes by brochures and such, so there could very likely be an actor that came in for a shorter time that's missing.

Which Christines that you know of have also played Joanna in Sweeney Todd?

Oh geez, um... the first names that come to mind are Lisa Vroman (she was in a filmed concert version), Rachel Barrell, and Eryn LeCroy. Looking through my trading site and elsewhere, I also see Dale Kristien, Rita Harvey, Annalene Beechey, Katie Hall, and Emilie Kouatchou. Also, the original Johanna, Sarah Rice, played Christine in both the Ken Hill production and a local Montreal production of the ALW version (according to this paper)? So that's interesting.

The Sarah Rice Phantom in Montreal is the Kenley/Noll adaptation.

I'm sure there's way more, but Sweeney Todd is not my forte and there isn't much of a database for the casts (plus it seems there have been a ton of small productions put on by opera houses and local theatres, which is great but makes it harder to track casts). Anyone who knows more, especially of international casts, feel free to reply or add to this post!

I saw 1776 tonight.

The show was fucking amazing.

Carolee was INCREDIBLE as Dickinson, like I knew she would be. But it wasn’t just Cool Considerate Men. It was every scene she was in. The fight between her and Adams - and wowww if that didn’t hit something in me that was unexpected.

But Carolee was not the only amazing performer. Kristolyn Lloyd played John Adams, and her passion and voice was electric.

Elizabeth A. Davis fucking KILLING IT as Jefferson, playing the violin, and doing it while being Very Pregnant is a feat.

And Eryn LeCroy as Martha Jefferson…wow. Wowwww. Betty Buckley’s He Plays the Violin has always been a favorite of mine, but Eryn’s puts Betty’s to the test. Really, really good.

I enjoyed the staging a whole lot. I do agree with some of the points Sara Porkalob made in her article. I can also appreciate the intentions and goals of the directors.

Mamma Look Sharp was haunting - hats off to Salome B. Smith for that amazing performance.

Sara Porkalob was out for this show so Mehry Eslamenia was the standby. And FUCKKK she was so good. So. Good. And Molasses to Rum was fucking powerful and also super uncomfortable, as it should have been.

I’m just so in awe of this show. I wish I could see it 100 times. I wish I could see it again, even just once more.

Just. So. Good.
