Okay, if you want to catch me on Office Hours, I time stamped where I call in & talk to Tim Heidecker in my David Attenborough voice. If it doesn't work, I call in at minute 41, 41 seconds. Haven't seen it yet, due to nerves, but I'm sure I will someday. Enjoy!

Unattainable Part V (Eddie X Theater Girl)
Tumblr media
Warnings: Cute Eddie Munson, mentions of abuse, Theater girl has an alcoholic mom
Word count: 3,091
The bar smell smacks me in the face as soon as Eddie opens the door. The distinct odor of cigarettes and liquor cling to the air. The building is slightly packed with people dressed to the nines in their grungy wear. As we make our way to a table, I notice there are a couple of groups here about our age if not a little bit older. A band is already thrashing around on stage to a song I do not recognize. It’s amazing.
Eddie’s hand lightly grazes my back; pulling me closer to him as he talks over the music. “I’m gonna grab a drink! What do you want?!”
“Surprise me! I trust you!” He grins and slides towards the counter. I’m not a huge alcohol person so I don’t really have a preference. My mom loves her Vodka. My dad was always partial to Whisky. Usually in Hawkins the kids just chug back whatever they can get their hands on. I close my eyes and take a deep breath in. I’m immediately transported back to when I was little. My dad standing on the couch, cigarette in hand, playing an air guitar along with a song on the radio. I try mimicking his motions with my little hands.
“There you go! There you go, baby girl! Strum that guitar!”
The sound of glasses clinking down on the table startle me. “Hey. You okay?” Eddie asks voice filled with concern. The band that was on stage finished their set and the bar was now much quieter.
“Yeah. I’m fine. Thank you. What,” I bring the glass of liquid slowly towards my lips, “is this?”
“Just regular Berger beer, my lady.”
As I take a small sip, I notice Eddie take two big gulps from his own glass. He notices me looking and sets his glass back down on the table. “Thirsty?” I ask, amused. He gives me a wicked grin as he reaches into his pocket to pull out his cigarettes.
For the next few hours, we sit there and talk between sets. The bands that play are actually pretty good. Some play their own songs but most are playing covers. Like the first time since I saw him with the Hellfire club, I can tell Eddie is in his element. The way he talks about the music and bangs his head while singing along is just a wonderful sight to behold. It’s extremely infectious and has me laughing along with him.
“Do you wanna dance!?” Eddie shouts over the table.
“Oh god no! Trust me! You don’t want me dancing!”
“Oh, come on! You’re fine!” He lightly pulls my arm, guiding me out of my chair. He leads us towards the stage area near where the band is playing. He takes both my hands in his, pushing my arms back and forth, making me sway. His head start banging and moving around with the beat of the drums. I try to stifle my laugh, biting my bottom lip. I start to move with the music as well, banging my head along with the rhythm. The sound of the beat starts to tether off. All I hear now is Eddie and my heavy, out of breath cackling.
“You guys have been great! Thank you for listening and coming out. We have one more song for you here. Hope you enjoy our version of it. I know my girlfriend does!” The lead singer shouts into the microphone on stage. There’s a brief pause before the band begins to play “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton. Goodness, I haven’t heard this song in so long.
Eddie grabs my hand with the intent of leading us back to our table but my feet don’t move. He turns around abruptly, slightly confused. It’s my turn to grab both of his hands, leading him back where we were near the stage.
“It's late in the evening She's wondering what clothes to wear She puts on her makeup And brushes her long blonde hair”
Reaching around me, I place his hands on the lower part of my back as I wrap my arms around his neck. We slowly start to sway side to side dancing with the music.
“And then she asks me "Do I look all right?" And I say, ‘Yes, you look wonderful tonight’”
Eddie leans his head down, placing his forehead on mine. I can feel his arms wrap tighter around my waist.
We go to a party And every one turns to see This beautiful lady Who's walking around with me
Moving both my hands to cup his face, I pull his lips to mine. The kiss is extremely soft at first; almost like he’s afraid of pushing a boundary with me. But then it slowly builds into something more determined.
And then she asks me "Do you feel all right?" And I say, "Yes, I feel wonderful tonight"
Our lips pull way but his forehead stays resting on mine. My hands slide down from his face to his chest. I can feel his heart beating extremely fast. I let out a tiny laugh, “Are YOU ok?”
He lifts his head so his eyes meet mine wearing a smile that stretches from ear to ear. “I’m good. It’s just… if you had told me my stalking tactics would have worked this well, I would have done it sooner.” I playfully push him away.
The song ends and people in the bar begin to clap. “Hey dude!” The lead singer leans into his microphone and points at us. “Do not fuck that up! She seems like a good one!” Eddie’s arm reaches around my waist again pulling me to his side.
“Hey man! She’s the best one!” he shouts. I can hear a few “Awes” ripple through the bar making me roll my eyes.
“Ok, dork. Let’s go.” I pull on his jacket sleeve leading him away. “I need to get back home.”
########
Eddie pulls over about a block away from my house.
“It’s just a little further up.” I say, pointing up the road.
“I know.”, he pauses as if he’s trying to find the right words. “You know you don’t have to go back there tonight.” I glance over at him, confused.
“I’m not sure what you’ve heard about me, Edward Munson, but I’m not a ‘sleep with someone on the first date’ kind of gal.’”
“Oh my god. No, no no! I don’t mean it like that.” He starts to ramble over his words. “I definitely didn’t mean it like that. I just…look I’m just going to say this. I don’t know what your home situation is like and I never want you to feel like you have to tell me anything you don’t want to. But when my dad was being himself, I would leave and stay with my uncle or friends or just anywhere else till he cooled off. I don’t know if your situation is anything like mine was but—”
I turned his face abruptly towards mine and kiss him. His big hand reaches up to cover the one I had resting on his cheek. When we pull apart, Eddie lets out a deep sigh and his brown eyes meet mine.
“I don’t like the way she talks to you.”
“I know--”
“No,” he interrupts,” I don’t like it. I don’t like the idea of you going in there and being alone with her like that.”
“Hey. “, I start calmly trying to reassure him. “Listen to me. I’ve been living with her like that for years. She’s all bark with very little bite. She’s…” I exhale as I look out the windshield up the street. Eddie’s eyes never leave my face. “She’s just been through a lot. She needs someone to take care of her.”
“Yeah? And who takes care of you?”
His words make me flinch. I had been taking care of myself for so long I hadn’t really thought about it. I couldn’t afford to. I felt myself start to get angry. Not at Eddie exactly but at being questioned, upset at the situation.
“I do!” I snap at him, yanking my hand away from his. “I do and you know what? I’m fine with that! I don’t need anyone to take care of me. I can take care of myself and if that’s a problem for you then I’m sorry.” I gather my things and jump down from his van. After slamming his door, a bit too dramatically, I start to make my way up the subdivision.
I don’t very far till I hear the sound boots shuffling quickly behind me. “Hey! Ok, wait wait wait!” Eddie maneuvers around me so he’s blocking me from walking farther.
“It’s fine, Eddie. It’s seriously not a big deal. Just move.”
“Can you wait a minute?!” he shouts. “I’m not…you’re acting like I’m attacking you. I’m not. I’m worried, ok!? I know what it’s like living in a home like that!” He runs his hands frustratingly through his mane of hair. He lows his voice and I can see his eyes soften with empathy. “I just want you to know you have a safe space to go to. You’re safe with me.”
I feel my defensive wall start to deflate. Taking small steps towards him, I reach out to hold his hand and guide him towards my house. We walk in silence till we reach my front door. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you. I appreciate the offer. I really do. Trust me. I’m ok.”
He reaches forward putting a lose strand of my hair behind my ear. “You can keep telling me you’re ok but I’m still going to worry. I meant what I said. You deserve better. And I’m telling you now if she tries anything like that in front of me again—”
I reach up to cover his mouth with my hand, smiling. “Ok! Ok. You’re my knight in shining armor. I get it.” He delicately pulls my hand away and uses it to pull me in for another kiss. “I had a lot of fun tonight. Thank you.”
He places his palm over his heart and bows. “My pleasure, my lady. I’ll call you tomorrow, ok?”
I nod as I turn my key and enter the front door. After I lock it, I can hear snoring on the couch in the living room. Silently practically tiptoeing over, I see my mother passed out. I reach across her to grab the blanket hanging off the back of the sofa wrapping it around her sleeping frame. I glance at the coffee table and notice a grumbled piece of paper next to her empty vodka glass. When I open it, I am met with the smiling faces of my mother and father holding me as a baby. I always wonder what they were like in those early years. I imagine they are really happy like they seem in this photo.
Did they have dates like the one I just went on? Did my dad ask her to dance? Did he make her laugh? Did they talk on the phone for hours? Where did things go wrong? How did things get to where they are now? What if I do that to Eddie? What is he hurts me? What if…
I throw the photo back on the table and make my way upstairs. Thirty minutes later I still find myself wide awake staring at the ceiling. I roll over in my bed and reach for the phone.
“Geez. I said I would call tomorrow. Why are you so obsessed with me?” Eddie’s voice is filled with fake disgust.
“How did you know it was me?”
“I have a great view from the bushes outside.” He laughs at his own joke. “Who else would it be at 2 in the morning?” Eddie pauses for a moment. “You ok?”
“You ask me that a lot.”
“You’re right. I should stop caring.”
“I’m fiiiiiine!” I exhaustedly giggle out. “Just can’t sleep. Will you talk to me for a little bit?”
“Of course.”

The next couple of weeks go by in a blissful blur. Eddie and I went on a few more dates. We went to the theater to see an utterly disgusting scary movie called “The Fly” which is about the ever-sexy Jeff Goldblum turning into a gigantic fly. Eddie grinned the entire time.
“Ugh! How can you stand those gross effects?!” I ask sticking out my tongue in disgust.
“Because they are fake and awesome and disgusting and I love it!”
He invited me to witness a D & D Campaign with his friends in Hellfire. I genuinely tried to pay attention and learn the rules but it just flew right over my head. It didn’t help that I was distracted by Eddie once again with his theatrics. How can you not be? He gets so animated and invested in the characters and his stories.
“Not that I’m complaining but what was that for?” he asks after I suddenly pulled him in for a light kiss on the lips as he was gathering his materials for us to leave.
“No reason. You’re just adorable is all.”
We went to the pizza place a couple of times after school where I tried to help him with some of his homework.
“NONE of this makes any sense.” Eddie whines, leaning his head on my shoulder pretending to cry.
“Ok, now you know how I feel you try to explain your game to me.” I chuckle at him.
“Yeah, but it’s still cute as hell watching your nose crinkle when you’re trying to understand.” He leans in and places a peck on my cheek.
“Oh, and this”, I gesture at him, “isn’t cute?”
“To be fair, I’m never not adorable.”
“Oh my god.” I sigh out a laugh as I roll my eyes.
Today, we were supposed to have another movie date but once he hopped in the van, he glanced at me before starting the ignition.
“I was wondering, uh, would you like to come over and watch a movie at my trailer? We can order in and just relax.”
“Oh. Okay. That sounds like fun.” I would be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly nervous. It had been a while since I’d been to ANYONE’S house let alone a boys.
“Don’t forget to wear protection! That’s how we ended up with you!” I hear my mother’s voice echoing in my head as the van starts to drive down the street. No, no, no. I’m not going to let you ruin this. It’s just a movie night anyway. It’s okay. Shut up! As we come to a stop light, I feel Eddie’s eyes peek over at me. He casually reaches for my hand, lacing our fingers together. His thumb tenderly rubs the back of my hand as if he’s trying to comfort me.
It doesn’t take long for us to get to his place. Once inside I take in my surroundings. I had talked to Eddie so many times over the phone but this the first time I actually get to see where he’s talking to me from.
“Sorry. The maid’s on vacation.” He states half jogging ahead of me to grab any trash he sees.
“It’s ok. Really.” I respond while grabbing his arm to try and slow him down. We walk down the hallway into his bedroom. It’s exactly what you would picture Eddie’s room to look like. There were metal band posters all over the walls. Different size amps for his guitars were everywhere. On the dresser was his stereo and scattered around was many cassettes. There were cassettes everywhere! I leaned down and picked up the closest one on his bed holding it up in the air for him to see.
“Metallica.” He grins as he grabs it from my hand. “What? It’s music!”
“I didn’t say it wasn’t!” I say smiling back at him as I tilt my head in amusement. “I’m curious as to why it’s over here and not, say, near the stereo?”
“I just bought it! I was going to listen to it but then some girl called me and we ended up talking for hours.” I playfully nod my head at him while making a face like I don’t believe him.
“Oh. Yeah sure. She sounds like a nuisance.” My smile grows as I take the tap back from him and place it on the table near his bed.
On his wall above the dresser in front of a mirror is the infamous guitar I hear him playing almost every night. I walk over and lightly run my fingers over the strings. I feel him come up beside me. “It’s beautiful. Is this the only guitar you have?”
“She’s the only guitar I need.” His smile widens as I roll my eyes again at him. “No, this is the only the guitar I have for the moment. I do want more. Maybe like a whole set of them.” Eddie turns and slowly walks towards the bedroom door. “I’m going to grab a chair really quick and then we can pick a movie.”
“Wait. Why are you getting a chair? We can sit on the bed or the floor. I don’t mind the floor. “
“Oh, sweetheart, trust me you don’t want to sit on my floor.”
“Well, then we can sit on the bed.” I sit on the mattress and lean my back against the wall. “Good view of the tv from here.” Eddie almost cautiously sits on the end of his bed. “Is…that ok?” I start to panic a little. “I can sit in a chair. I don’t want to be a burden or anything.”
His eyes widen with amused surprise. “No, it’s fine. I just didn’t want you to be uncomfortable or think I was trying anything.” He places his hand on my jeaned leg and squeezes lightly. “Do you do that often? Convince yourself that YOU are the problem? Because you’re not you know.”
Lean forward, I reach my arms out to wrap them around his shoulders. “I do. I’m sorry. I’m trying to be better at that.” He reaches up to rub his hand along my arm.
“You don’t have to worry. I told you. You’re safe with me.” I give him a tiny smile and he replies by leaning in to kiss my forehead. “So, I have C.H.U.D. or a Nightmare on Elm Street. Which do you prefer?
