It's been a while: Time to enjoy
It's been a while. I hope you enjoy it!
“A mixture of trees purifies urban air best” (source). Let’s get right to it. Cue music (something gentle): Still Corners “The Trip“. In this blog, a mixture of philosophies has been presented. Rather than one way of thinking, an eclectic approach has been taken. A philosophy of enjoyment mixes philosophies and accepts wise insights from anywhere and everywhere, including: 1) Epicureanism:…

I have a question if your able to answer it. So according to Grim’s Lab Coat and Ortho’s school uniform vignettes Grim is part of the Gastronomy club, but I’m pretty sure that in the original Japanese it was the gourmet food club. Do you have any idea why they changed it?
It's not a matter of whether it was "changed," really. The Japanese term for the club is 美食研究会. This was never given an "official" translation until Grim got his first card in the EN game. Therefore, we had to rely on fan translations of this term. You may have seen "Gourmet Food Club," "Epicurean Research Club," "Gourmet Research Society," among others. None of these were wrong, as they all embodied the club's want for Gastronomic Glory (to quote the Culinary Crucible)! But since EN has given us the name of "Gastronomy Club" that's what I (and I'm sure others) have chosen to use for his club name, adhering to the localized version.

A/N: Decided to post it here too. Uh this is my first time posting here.

Over the years, Soho evolved and adapted. It became a haven for the creative minds that flocked to its streets. Musicians, writers, and artists found solace and inspiration in its coffeehouses and underground clubs. The melodies of jazz, soul, and rock 'n' roll filled the air, drawing both the curious locals and the adventurous tourists to its lively margins.
Beyond its artistic allure, Soho pulsates with culinary delights. From hidden speakeasies to renowned Michelin-starred restaurants, its diverse array of flavors tantalizes the taste buds. Soho is an epicurean's paradise, inviting food enthusiasts from all walks of life to explore its gastronomic offerings.
The neighborhood cherishes its working-class heritage, weaving the stories of the past with the energetic rhythm of the present. Traditional pubs frequented by laborers still stand proudly on street corners, their wooden interiors echoing with laughter and tales of days gone by.
Soho may be a small corner of London, but its spirit is immeasurable. It is a place where creativity knows no bounds, a hub of artistic expression and cultural revolution. The legacy it leaves on those who venture through its vibrant streets is one of inspiration and acceptance.
(Y/N) has been living in a big city their whole life, so moving to Soho was a dream come true. Even though they were excited, the hustle and bustle of the city was intimidating and overwhelming. They started to wander around and got lost in the busy street.
As they were trying to orient themselves , something caught their eye. It was a grand old Bentley, parked across the street. (Y/N) was mesmerized by it. The car was sleek and elegant, totally different from anything they ever owned and different from anything they’ve seen before.
The Bentley’s owner was leaning against the car, with his fiery red hair and a black jacket. He remained stern-faced despite the chaos brewing in his mind as he leaned against his sleek Bentley, his gaze fixed at the vintage little bookshop across the street. Even though (Y/N) had made eye contact with the Bentley owner twice, the person never responded which made them feel like they weren’t welcomed.
(Y/N) couldn’t peel their eyes away from the beauty of the Bentley. To them, the car was much more than a vehicle, it was a symbol of adventure. With that car they could travel the world, explore different places and meet people from all kinds of backgrounds. It was a dream come true.
(Y/N) already knew that living in Soho was going to be an amazing experience. They simply had to take this opportunity and make something of it. With that thought in their head, (Y/N) smiled.
"What?" The man spat out impolitely.
(Y/N) flinched.
"Excuse me...hello, I'm really sorry for staring. You have such a lovely Bentley, I can't help but to stare" (Y/N) awkwardly stumbled not only on their words but on the steps too, talking to a stranger in a place you don't know can be dangerous. Slowly, (Y/N) walks to him but stay a few feets away from him.
"Oh, also I'm new around here so I don't actually know what to do besides walking around..umm" (Y/N) whispered to themselves, Crowley could barely hear them.
(Y/N) does not want to make a weird first impression to Crowley. Their soft (H/C) hair bounce from every steps they are taking.
Crowley was bored and a bit hungry. But the human seemed rather polite. (Y/N) had that innocent puppy dog look on their face. Maybe the human wasn't so bad after all, especially because they admired his car.
He raised an eyebrow at them, wondering why they were approaching him. He didn't want to be bothered by someone looking for directions or something similar.
However, he still asked, "Are you lost?" Maybe he could give them false directions, he smirked internally.
"Oh! No no... I'm not lost actually. I'm new to this area. I'm just hanging around here. I did visit some shops and uhh that coffee shop behind me, it was good! " (Y/N) directed their finger towards the coffee shop behind them.
Their bright (E/C) eyes squinted, they smiled awkwardly or perhaps nervously. Their shoulders dropped as both of their hands are at the sides.
"Hmm, new here. I don't know anyone that looks quite like you," Crowley muttered, looking them up and down. Their nervousness amused him, he was sure he could annoy them even more.
He looked at them with a serious expression on his face, "What's your name?"
"Oh, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm (Y/F/N) , pleasure meeting you umm... " (Y/N) trailed off, trying to get Crowley to tell his own name.
"Crowley." He said his name with a straight face, even though he was slightly entertained by the conversation.
Then he smirked, and his voice rang with a bit of sarcasm, "Pleasure is all mine," he said, even though he didn't really think that. "Oh, and are you some kind of exotic tourist around here, (Y/N) ?"
He knew (Y/N) just move into here since they mentioned it earlier but he decided to tease them even more.
Flush creeps across their (S/C) cheeks. Their (E/C) eyes widen for a second before shifting glances all around the streets. "Uh... I'm a freelancer, I move into this neighborhood just to get some fresh air. It looks nice here" They flashes a smile to Crowley as they nervously tucked one hair behind their ear.
"How about you Mr. Crowley? What are you doing here, I guess you're not new here like me since you look like you're seems to park your car here every days" questioned (Y/N) .
"Oh, are you trying to figure out my secrets?" He asked with a smirk. "I've got some time to kill, so I thought I'd come and see if my best friend is in the shop."
He gestured in the direction of the shop. "I'm never far from him," he said with a little smile. "I have nothing better to do. I'm so bored. I wish I could fall through a crack in the world to a more exciting world."
He looked at (Y/N) with a bit of curiosity. "Are you enjoying this part of the world?"
It was indeed a strange question, someone that you don't even know and meeting them for only a few seconds just ask you that. What does he wants? Is he trying to be friendly or just curious.
(Y/N) glances at the bookshop Crowley gestured to, their eyes sparked as soon as they saw the shop. "Ohh! I would love to visit the bookshop, I was supposed to go there just to look around and introduce myself but I'm taking my time out here. Probably just me been nervous" (Y/N) chuckled.
They turned back to look at Crowley "I do actually enjoy the world, there's a lot of stuff to be discovered! I get to do things that I enjoy too! " beamed (Y/N). Their smile widen at the thought of enjoying life with everything that they have.
"It just so happens that my best friend works in that very charming little bookshop." He couldn't help himself, and grinned at (Y/N)'s excitement about the bookshop.
"Is it really that exciting for you?" He asked, a bit amused.
"Are you perhaps a fan of books, then?" Crowley wondered, because he himself enjoyed a good book every once in a while. But he was sure that there were many things more entertaining to do than reading. Or so he thought.
"I love books! It's just the smell of books got me feeling gleeful. Besides reading books, I also love listening to music especially when I'm drawing or reading. How about you Mr. Crowley, do you enjoy them as well? "  curiously, they look at Crowley in anticipation.
"Hmm, you seem like a bit of a nerd," he teased.
"Yes, I might enjoy books and music too," he said with a small smile. His grin widened, and he glanced at (Y/N) in a way that made they feel as if he was looking right through them. He always found it amusing to see someone blush, and he was sure (Y/N)'s face was starting to get a little pink.
He took a breath and then asked, "Speaking of music, what kind of music do you like?"
(Y/N) let out a soft breathe laugh "To be honest, I love music like Queen but not a lot of people seems to enjoy it. Quite rare if I must say" They crossed their arms as they crinkles their nose.
Crowley grinned when (Y/N) started to talk about their favorite band. He loved Queen, and he was actually quite surprised that they mentioned them.
"Queen? Really?" He asked. "I also really enjoy them, they're one of my all time favorites!"
The demon gave a loud laughter and then said, "I never thought that I would ever find someone in a place like this that enjoys music even half as much as I do!"
He looked at (Y/N) , and then added with a flirtatious edge in his voice, "Perhaps you and I aren't so different after all."
(Y/N) giggles, they hums a bit " Perhaps we aren't, Mr. Crowley " they winked.
"Well, it was nice meeting you Mr. Crowley. I guess... I better go now. That bookshop of your good friend has been intriguing me for almost hours" They look down at their black leather watch, wrapping nicely around their left wrist.
(Y/N) look up back to Crowley, smiling softly "Unless you wouldn't mind to walk me there and introduce me to your friend? "
Crowley was surprised by their sudden flirtatiousness. Were they really flirting with him? A human, flirting with him? He liked it.
"Of course I don't mind," he said with a smirk. "I don't want you to get lost. And it makes me happy to make you happy by introducing you to my friend," he replied with a charming smile.
He started to walk towards the bookshop. It was almost time for closing, and he was hoping that his best friend was still around.
Before they could even reach to the bookshop. Crowley halted. He was hit by a strong sense of urgency, his heart rate increasing rapidly. He immediately stopped walking, turning to look at (Y/N) with a serious expression on his face.
(Y/N) looked at Crowley in concerned " Is something ma-"
"Something is wrong," he said in a low voice. "I have to go back."
He knew that something important had to happen to disturb him, but as always, his curiosity got the better of him. He decided to at least have a look, maybe it'd be worth it.
He quickly started to walk in the opposite direction, trying to ignore all of the people staring at him and wondering what the heck was going on.
Crowley let out a sigh. "Oh, for Go- ugh, what is it now?!" His face suddenly changed to an angry, annoyed gaze.
Crowley stopped for a moment and turned to (Y/N). They seemed confused about his abrupt behavior, but there was really nothing he could do about it.
He said, "I'm sorry for taking up your time, but something urgent has come up, something I can't ignore."
Crowley then turned and ran as fast as he could, disappearing out of sight around the corner and leaving (Y/N) all by themselves with no idea what the heck just happened.
(Y/N) watched Crowley's Bentley disappeared as he drives away from there. They already at the bookshop door so they don't mind at all. Crowley business seems rather urgent so they don't really want to bother him. Crowley was an interesting man, wearing all black and his red colored hair stood out even more.
(Y/N) shook their head, turning around to face the fascinating bookshop that they have been wanting to go inside. They took a deep breath, they look through the glass on the door, trying to find the mentioned friend of Crowley.

Tips for Maximizing the Use of Clubs in The Sims 4
Greetings everyone,
If you've played The Sims 4, you're likely aware that Get Together is one of the best expansion packs ever released for the game! It adds new dynamics to your gameplay and social clubs that can be used to improve your sims' lives. In this post, I'll share my favorite ways to use social clubs in The Sims 4 to help you get the most out of them.
It may be a lengthy read, so proceed at your own discretion.
Using social clubs to control sims' autonomy
One of the most significant advantages of social clubs is the ability to control your sims' behavior. Club activities override individual sims' autonomous actions, allowing you to direct their actions in a more productive manner. You could establish a private club for your household and use it to make your sims do chores, study, have fun, or anything else that comes to mind. You can alter club activities at any time as long as you are the club leader.
Creating your own lore through social circles
Friendships and relationships are easy to establish in The Sims 4, but they are often shallow and meaningless. It's more realistic for sims to be friends with others who share their interests or hobbies. By bringing these sims together in social clubs, you can create your own lore and stories.
In addition, you can cause drama and rivalries between different clubs by encouraging mean interactions or by banning friendly interactions with selected ones. Trust me, it brings so much life to your gameplay!
Using social clubs to explore new spaces
In The Sims 4, you can easily stay on your home lot and self-sustain indefinitely, making the game feel isolated and limited. By using social clubs, you can direct your sims to hang out at designated lots or locations, allowing them to explore the world outside their home.
Here are a few examples of social that I use in my game, based on different interests and social circles:
Interest-based Clubs
Adventure Associates: Join our nature-loving social club! We hike, fish, climb, ski, and snowboard. Connect with like-minded individuals and explore the great outdoors. (Requirements: Traits like Adventurous, Loves Outdoors, and skills such as fishing, skiing, rock climbing, etc.)
Budding Pals: Budding Pals is a gardening club for nature enthusiasts to learn plant care through sustainable practices. From novice to expert, join us in cultivating a beautiful and sustainable community garden. (Requirements: Traits like Green Fiend, Loves Outdoors, Animal Lover, Recycle Disciple, and skills such as flower-arranging and gardening)
Covalent Bonds: Not intimidated by rocket science? Think you could solve the Unsolvable Hetu Hypothesis if only you had enough moral support? Want to share electron pairs to create a stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces? Join the Covalent Bonds! (Requirements: Traits like genius, geek, overachiever, and skills such as rocket science, logic, robotics, etc.)
Desperate Homemakers: Desperate Homemakers is an inclusive group of close-knit stay-at-home folks inspired by "Desperate Housewives". They gather to gossip, play cards, and enjoy a bottle of chardonnay every now and then. (Requirements: Unemployed Sims)
Digital Divergence: Digital Divergence is a social club for gamers, coders, and streamers. Meet like-minded people, share ideas, and collaborate on projects. Join us for LAN parties, coding competitions, and streaming workshops! (Requirements: Traits like Geek, Creative, Socially Awkward, and skills such as programming, video gaming, media production, photography)
Epicurean Elites: A circle of select foodies who appreciate fine dining and culinary experiences. Members gather for exclusive events and tastings, exploring new flavors, techniques, and cuisines. Readaholics Anonymous: Are you a seasoned bibliophile? An aspiring writer? Grab your book and join us for lively discussions and plenty of page-turning fun! Our welcoming club offers a warm community of like-minded readers! (Requirements: Traits like Bookworm, Geek, Socially Awkward, and skills such as Research and Debate, Writing)
Tapestry Posse: Tapestry Posse is a social club that brings together individuals who share a passion for arts and crafts such as painting, knitting, cross-stitching, and candle-making. It's a friendly and relaxed community for artists and hobbies alike. (Requirements: Traits like Creative, Art Lover, Snob, and skills such as Painting, Cross-stitching, Knitting, Fabrication, etc.)
The High Society™ is a secretive society of the world's most influential people, from politicians to celebrities. Its true purpose is unknown, but membership is the ultimate status symbol among the elite. (Requirements: Wealth (Rich), Career: Law, Politician, Business, Actor, Entertainer, Military, Detective, Sciencist, Secret Agent, Criminal, and traits like Self-assured, Perfectionist, Ambitious, Snob, etc.)
In order to foster a sense of community and belonging, I suggest adding the 'Insider' trait as a requirement for membership in all clubs. Sims with the 'Insider' trait are naturally drawn to social groups and are more likely to participate in various club activities, ultimately enhancing the overall experience for all members.
Age-based Clubs
Lil' Wabbits: Lil' Wabbits is a playful and imaginative children's social club, where kids can make new friends and have fun with various activities. From dress-up to play pretend, it's all about having a great time in a safe and supportive environment. (Requirements: Age - Child)
Seasoned Seniors: Seasoned Seniors is a social club for elderly folks looking for fun and connection. Enjoy games, outings, and social events in a supportive environment. (Requirements: Age - Elder)
Youthopia: Youthopia is a social club for teenagers that offers fun activities and events to promote friendships and a sense of community. Youthopia is the perfect group for teens to hang out with and have a good time. (Requirements: Age - Teen)
Occult-themed Clubs
Aristoclaws: The Aristoclaws are a pack of wealthy and influential werewolves who balance their strength and ferocity with skilled diplomacy. They defend their territory with sharp claws and fierce howls, but also rely on their ability to negotiate and form alliances. (Requirements: Wealth (Rich), Werewolf (Trait))
Council of The Forgotten: The Council of Eternal Night governs all vampires globally from Forgotten Hollow. This oldest organization holds high esteem, guiding its members to reach their true power and potential. Register your household to connect with fellow vampires. (Requirements: Vampire (Trait))
Coven of the Dusk: Led by an enigmatic teen warlock, this coven follows ancient beliefs and practices green and dark magic for protection. Teenage witches gather to perform divination rituals, brew potions, cast spells, practice herbalism, and celebrate nature. (Requirements: Age - Teen, Spellcaster (Trait))
Faelwyn Union: The Faelwyn Union unites elves to promote peace and protect their rights. They preserve nature, known for their elven lore knowledge. Strong scholars with mutual respect for other races. (Requirements: Spellcaster (in my game, my elves are Spellcasters))
Glimmerbrook Magistrate: The Glimmerbrook Magistrate governs spellcasters, ensuring responsible magic use. Experienced members oversee training, investigate disputes, and prevent misuse. Respected authority in the magical community. (Requirements: Spellcaster (Trait)) Ivanovich House: Led by patriarch Dmitry, Ivanovich House is a vampire clan of northeastern heritage. They keep to themselves, wary of outsiders, and are known for their refined taste and skillful manipulation of those around them.
(Requirements: Vampire (Trait), Vampire Knowledge Skill)
Nzarogg Clan: The Nzarogg Clan, descendants of Windenburg's merfolks, now reside in Sulani. Adapting to their new environment, they retain their culture and traditions. They have no hesitation in putting anyone who opposes them in their place. (Requirements: Mermaid (Trait))
Steelfangs: The Steelfangs are a werewolf pack exclusively for affluent teenagers. With power, wealth, and influence, they rule their territory with sharp claws and a howl that strikes fear into their rivals. (Requirements: Age - Teen, Werewolf (Trait))
Tideglow Tribe: Native to Sulani, this conservative merfolk community sees newcomers as potential threats. Their strength and agility make them formidable defenders of their territory, and outsiders are only welcome if they earn the tribe's trust. (Requirements: Mermaid (Trait))
Additionally, you can make more clubs for your Sims' high school friends, university friends like "Foxbury Alumni," and organize annual events and gatherings to reminisce on old times and friendships.
I hope these examples gave you some inspiration to start your own social clubs and use them to their full potential in The Sims 4. Remember, social clubs are a great way to add depth and variety to your gameplay, and they can help you create unique stories and characters in your game.

• probably has light ptsd,
• his friendships with nakama players (besides his and miko bond) aren't that strong like they used to. this is "when both of you start to distancing from each other and you become strangers to each other" situation, (he misses them)

they are like brothers. sometimes they fight for dear life and the other time they send each other funny memes at 3 am. in my head, both of them didn't have a great family dynamic, so they stayed together late at night.
miko was more easy going, so he was always worried about tiger when something happened to him. they aren't ashamed to show their love to each other.
• inyo: when they were kiddos she truly loved him in the most sisterly way you can think of. both of them are very careful when it comes to developing relations so they become very important to each other. it hurt when they had no contact with each other for years and then they become super league enemies (they never even have a talk after this).

Ancient Herculaneum Scrolls Blackened by Vesuvius are now Readable
X-ray scans can just tease out letters on the warped documents from a library at Herculaneum.
The lavish villa sat overlooking the Bay of Naples, offering bright ocean views to the well-heeled Romans who came from across the empire to study. The estate's library was stocked with texts by prominent thinkers of the day, in particular a wealth of volumes by the philosopher Philodemus, an instructor of the poet Virgil.
But the seaside library also sat in the shadow of a volcano that was about to make terrible history.
The 79 A.D. eruption of Mount Vesuvius is most famous for burying Pompeii, spectacularly preserving many artifacts—and residents—in that once bustling town south of Naples. The tumbling clouds of ash also entombed the nearby resort of Herculaneum, which is filled with its own wonders. During excavations there in 1752, diggers found a villa containing bundles of rolled scrolls, carbonized by the intense heat of the pyroclastic flows and preserved under layers of cement-like rock. Further digs showed that the scrolls were part of an extensive library, earning the structure the name Villa of the Papyri.
Blackened and warped by the volcanic event, the roughly 1,800 scrolls found so far have been a challenge to read. Some could be mechanically unrolled, but hundreds remain too fragile to make the attempt, looking like nothing more than clubs of charcoal. Now, more than 200 years later, archaeologists examining two of the scrolls have found a way to peer inside them with x-rays and read text that has been lost since antiquity.
"Anybody who focuses on the ancient world is always going to be excited to get even one paragraph, one chapter, more," says Roger Macfarlane, a classicist at Brigham Young University in Utah. "The prospect of getting hundreds of books more is staggering."
Most of the scrolls that have been unwrapped so far are Epicurean philosophical texts written by Philodemus—prose and poetry that had been lost to modern scholars until the library was found. Epicurus was a Greek philosopher who developed a school of thought in the third century B.C. that promoted pleasure as the main goal of life, but in the form of living modestly, foregoing fear of the afterlife and learning about the natural world. Born in the first century B.C. in what is now Jordan, Philodemus studied at the Epicurean school in Athens and became a prominent teacher and interpreter of the philosopher's ideas.
Modern scholars debate whether the scrolls were part of Philodemus' personal collection dating to his time period, or whether they were mostly copies made in the first century A.D. Figuring out their exact origins will be no small feat—in addition to the volcano, mechanical or chemical techniques for opening the scrolls did their share of damage, sometimes breaking the delicate objects into fragments or destroying them outright. And once a page was unveiled, readability suffered.
"Ironically, when someone opened up a scroll, they would write on a separate sheet what they could read, like a facsimile, and the original ink, once exposed to air, would start to fade," says Brent Seales, a computer scientist at the University of Kentucky who specializes in digital imaging. What's more, the brute-force techniques usually left some pages stuck together, trapping hidden layers and their precious contents.
From 2007 to 2012, Seales collaborated with Daniel Delattre at the French National Center for Scientific Research in Paris on a project to scan scrolls in the collections of the Institut de France—former treasures of Napoleon Bonaparte, who received them as a gift from the King of Naples in 1802. Micro-CT scans of two rolled scrolls revealed their interior structure—a mass of delicate whorls akin to a fingerprint. From that data the team estimated that the scrolls would be between 36 and 49 feet long if they could be fully unwound. But those scans weren't sensitive enough to detect any lettering.
The trouble is that papyri at the time were written using a carbon-based ink, making it especially hard to digitally tease out the words on the carbonized scrolls. Traditional methods like CT scans blast a target with x-rays and look for patterns created as different materials absorb the radiation—this works very well when scanning for dense bone inside soft tissue (or for peering inside a famous violin), but the method fails at discerning carbon ink on blackened scrolls.
Now a team led by Vito Mocella of the Italian National Research Council has shown for the first time that it is possible to see letters in rolled scrolls using a twist on CT scanning called x-ray phase-contrast tomography, or XPCT. Mocella, Delattre and their colleagues obtained permission to take a fragment from an opened scroll and a whole rolled scroll from the Paris institute to the European Synchrotron in Grenoble. The particle collider was able to produce the high-energy beam of x-rays needed for the scans.
Rather than looking for absorption patterns, XPCT captures changes in the phase of the x-rays. The waves of x-rays move at different speeds as they pass through materials of various density. In medical imaging, rays moving through an air-filled organ like a lung travel faster then those penetrating thick muscle, creating contrast in the resulting images. Crucially, the carbon-based ink on the scrolls didn't soak into the papyrus—it sits on top of the fibers. The microscopic relief of a letter on the page proved to be just enough to create a noticeable phase contrast.
Reporting today in the journal Nature Communications, Mocella and his team show that they were able to make out two previously unreadable sequences of capital letters from a hidden layer of the unrolled scroll fragment. The team interprets them as Greek words: ΠΙΠΤΟΙΕ, meaning "would fall", and ΕΙΠΟΙ, meaning "would say". Even more exciting for scholars, the team was able to pick out writing on the still-rolled scroll, eventually finding all 24 letters of the Greek alphabet at various points on the tightly bundled document.
Even though the current scans are mostly a proof of concept, the work suggests that there will soon be a way to read the full works on the rolled scrolls, the team says. "We plan to improve the technique," says Mocella. "Next spring we have an allowance to spend more time at the Grenoble synchrotron, where we can test a number of approaches and try to discern the exact chemical composition of the ink. That will help us improve the energy setting of the beam for our scan."
"With the text now accessible by virtue of specialized images, we have the prospect of going inside the rolled scrolls, and that's really exciting," says Macfarlane. Seales agrees: "Their work is absolutely crucial, and I am delighted to see a way forward using phase contrast."
Seales is currently working on ways to help make sense of future scans. With support from the National Science Foundation and Google, Seales is developing software that can sort through the jumbled letters and figure out where they belong on the scroll. The program should be able to lump letters into words and fit words into passages. "It turns out there are grains of sand sprinkled all the way through the scrolls," says Seales. "You can see them twinkling in the scans, and that constellation is fixed." Using the sand grains like guide stars, the finished software should be able to orient the letters on the whorled pages and line up multiple scans to verify the imagery.
The projects offer hope for further excavations of the Herculaneum library. "They stopped excavating at some point for various reasons, and one was, Why should we keep pulling things out if they are so hard to read?" says Seales. But many believe there is a lower "wing" of the villa's collection still buried, and it may contain more 1st-century Latin texts, perhaps even early Christian writings that would offer new clues to Biblical times.
"Statistically speaking, if you open up a new scroll of papyrus from Herculaneum, it's most likely going to be a text from Philodemus," says MacFarlane. "But I'm more interested in the Latin ones, so I would not be unhappy at all to get more Latin texts that are not all banged up."
For Mocella, being able to read even one more scroll is crucial for understanding the library and the workings of a classical school of philosophy. "Regardless of the individual text, the library is a unique cultural treasure, as it is the only ancient library to survive almost entire together with its books," he says. "It is the library as whole that confers the status of exceptionality." The scanning method could also be useful for texts beyond the Roman world, says Seales. Medieval books often cannibalized older texts to use as binding, and scans could help uncover interesting tidbits without ruining the preserved works. Also, letters and documents from the ill-fated Franklin expedition to the Northwest Passage in the 19th century have been recovered but are proving difficult to open without doing damage. "All that material could benefit from non-invasive treatment," says Seales.

What do we know about the Ricords?
Tumblr media
There actually exists a fairly recent biography on Ricord — La République à visage humain: Jean-François Ricord, maire de Grasse, conventionnel, représentant en mission (2019). If you want to learn about him properly I think the best might be to go consult that book, because I couldn’t really find more substantial info on him than his wikipedia article and some dictionary articles. As for Marguerite Ricord, according to the memoirs of René-Nicolas Dufriche, she was born in Grasse, with her maiden name being Rossignoly. Her father, born in the 1710s or 1720s, was an ex-Oratorian and doctor who had never had much work, ”a lazy and caustic Epicurean, [who] had made himself formidable by the most biting satires in verse. […] Quite an old satyr, because of the fire which still sometimes flashed from his eyes, and the convulsive movements of his lips which revealed two or three threatening teeth.” Marguerite had grown up with a mother — a ”remarkably gentle” woman it is said she ressembled — as well as two sisters, one of which was married by 1793, and a younger one named Thérèse or Théréson. More basic info — such as her year of birth, marriage and death — I’ve however not been able to find (and the only reason I even know her name was Marguerite is because different historians have all called her that).
As for Jean-François, he too had been born in Grasse, in 1759, where he, once the revolution rolled around, founded a local Jacobin Club. On January 6 and 9 1792, its parisian sister club lists someone named Ricord as intervening during their debates. This is ”our” Ricord according to the index, though I do have some doubts about it considering he at this point should still be in Grasse, where he had been elected mayor just two months earlier. Ricord and Marguerite most likely didn’t go to Paris until the fall of 1793, when the former was elected to the National Convention. There, he would go on to vote for the death of Louis XVI, rejecting both an appeal to the people and granting the king a reprieve. One day after Louis’ execution, January 22 1793, Lucile Desmoulins writes in her diary: ”Ricord came to see me. He is always the same, very brusque and coarse, truly mad, giddy, insane.” The next day she tells us about having met Ricord after witnessing the funeral procession of Le Peletier, and a week later about dining with Ricord, Sillery and three others.
The military doctor René-Nicolas Dufriche reported in his Souvernirs de la fin du XVIIIe siècle et du commencement du XIXe (1836) that, two months later, March 15 1792, the following scene took place:
I went to take a leave, on the evening of March 15, at my uncle V... and the rest of his family, by then gathered near him, and I thus embraced for the first and last time my adorable cousin Aimée, who died of grief shortly after the tragic end of our uncle. That day, I found at my aunt's house the wife of a deputy from Var who was attending the conferences held at V... This woman, apparently very shy, probably because she had no use of the world, learning that I was leaving the next day for Nice, told me that she was from Grasse and the daughter of a doctor, and that if I ever went to that city, she urged me to see her family, who would welcome me eagerly.
On July 21 1793 Ricord shows up for the very first time in the Récueil des actes du Comité de Salut Public (I’ve honestly not been able to find any trace of him between Lucile’s diary entry and this, neither in official debates nor anecdotes). On that day, he got tasked with going to the Army of Italy, replacing the representative Pierre Baille who had gotten the mission to go there alongside Augustin Robespierre two days earlier. According to Mary Young’s Augustin: the younger Robespierre (2011), Augustin and Ricord may already have been acquainted with one another, seeing as the latter, according to her, had a flat on 5 rue St Florentin, the same street Charlotte had gotten her brothers to go live on after her fallout with the Duplays.
Ricord decided to take his wife along with him on the journey. According to the memoirs of Charlotte Robespierre, it was when she learned of this fact that she asked her younger brother if she too may tag along, something which the latter agreed to ”with joy.” We don’t know when exactly the group set out, but the first letter from them to the CPS is dated August 16, when they for the moment are settled in Sault. Six days later we find them in Manosque. A week after that, August 28, Augustin writes to his brother from Aix reporting that ”I embraced all the prisoners, Ricord first of all” which might suggest Ricord had for a short time been captured by counter-revolutionaries. Finally, on September 8 they had reached Nice, where they would also go on to stay for more than a month (we have letters dated September 13, 16, 18, 23 and 24, and 5 October 5, 7, 8 and 16). Here, they ran into the military doctor René-Nicolas Dufriche once again who left the following anecdote in his Souvernirs de la fin du XVIIIe siècle et du commencement du XIXe (1836):
Walking one evening on the beautiful terrace which borders the sea, I came face to face with the representatives Barras and Fréron, who both flanked Madame Ricord, the wife of their colleague, who followed them a few steps away, chatting to Robespierre the younger. A swarm of young staff officers surrounded the national representation at a respectful distance. I was forced to greet the first group and approach madame Ricord, to ask her for news of her family, who had received me so cordially in Grasse. “Monsieur,” citoyenne Ricord said to me, “aren’t you a bit of a Girondin?” “No, madame, I’m simply a doctor.” Then, slowly retreating, I went to see the husband, who affectionately held out his hand to me and took a few steps away from Robespierre so that we could talk more at ease. “Citoyen representant,” I said to him, “your wife just asked me a very inappropriate question.” And I repeated what she had said. “Certainly, very inappropriate, and it does not surprise me, because my wife compromises me every day… Forget what she told you… I am counting on your silence.” "Admit, however, citoyen representant, that if Madame Ricord's question could cause me some grief, I could not help saying that your wife's suspicions infallibly relate to what she saw me do in Paris at my uncle V... She was waiting for you there, as you well know, chatting with my aunt and my cousin, while you deliberated in the neighboring salon... Isn’t that how it is?” "Certainly; I repeat to you that my wife does not have any common sense. Be calm, and whatever may happen, you will find in me a warm friend who will make use of your services.” While complying with the somewhat interested words of M. Ricord, a loyal man, I was not completely reassured. I had humiliated self-esteem and swallowed too much the ridiculous pretensions of a few Figaros, exclusive patriots and aesculapian servants of the proconsuls, so as not to apprehend the denigrations. Confining myself therefore into a clientele which increased every day, I avoided with extreme care the national representation and all its entourage.
According to Charlotte’s memoirs, it was also while in Nice that Marguerite caused her to fall out with Augustin:
Public spirit in Nice was no better than in all of Provence. But there we had nothing to fear from the counterrevolutionaries; there was a division of French troops. The general in chief, Dumerbion, and his general staff protected us, Madame Ricord and I, when her husband and my brother went out, which happened often. During my stay in Nice I went to the theatre only three times. The first time we were respected; the second time, the box that we had reserved had been taken over; the third time they threw apples at us, which did not reach us. General Dumerbion saw this and sent his aides-de-camp to pray us to come to his box. Then they no longer dared to throw anything at us, but after a few minutes, we left the theatre, and never set foot in it again.
Robespierre the Younger and Ricord had found that Army of Italy, which was soon to become illustrious by its great exploits, in a disastrous destitution. While they visited the different divisions and substituted everywhere order for disorder, abundance for famine, we kept occupied, Madame Ricord and I, in making shirts for the soldiers. In the evening, to relax, we walked in the country around Nice, sometimes on foot, sometimes on horseback. Our equestrian outings made people talk, and fed the viciousness of our enemies. It was written in Paris that we acted like princesses; several journals paid by the aristocracy propagated this absurd accusation, and Maximilien Robespierre wrote me to let me know. My younger brother spoke to me about it too, and I promised him to refuse myself the pleasure of riding from then on.
Madame Ricord, who was the most frivolous and inconsiderate person in the world, made the same promise but with the resolution not to keep it. Here I must give an idea of her character. For long I had believed her to be only coquettish and flighty; but I saw at last, through my own experience, that she was malicious and sought every means to make my younger brother quarrel with me and send me back to Paris. My presence was unbearable to her; a passionate lover of pleasure, and often of pleasures not permitted to respectable women, she found me a strict and rigorous witness who was getting in her way. Indeed, a lady who interested herself in me, and who saw in Madame Ricord’s household that I was displaced in her society, and in that of a lady she spent her time with who was no better than her, told me once: You are too virtuous to remain her; your presence alone criticizes them. I did not at first understand the meaning of those words; later, and when I had been the victim of the blackest treason, I recalled them, and I admired the simplicity with which I had been unable to understand them.
To return to the rides on horseback, which had been formally forbidden me by my two brothers: one day when Robespierre the Younger and Ricord were out, Madame Ricord proposed that we go on one such ride, and here is the occasion: we had been invited, she and I, to dine with some persons of her acquaintance. After dinner, and when the horses were ready as well as a coach for those who did not know how to ride, Madame Ricord said: Let’s go; the coach and the horses are ready; absolutely as if it had been agreed in advance that the ride would take place. I approached her and reminded her in a whisper of my brother’s prohibition; she did not listen to me and left me, laughing. I did not dare to explain myself more fully before the rest of those present; I resigned myself and got into the coach.
For the whole length of the ride I was upset and had a heavy heart, so much was a affected to be disobeying my brother. Assuredly I took no part in the others’ pleasure, and I would have preferred a thousand times to not have left the house. One idea consoled me. If my brother, I said to myself, learns of this ride, as it is inevitable that he will, at least he will know that I was not the one who wanted it; he will know that I protested to Madame Ricord, and that she did not want to take account of them; he will know at last that she was the one who wanted this ride and that I could do nothing other than follow her; Madame Ricord will have to assume the responsibility.
Two days later my brother returned. The day of his arrival he did not speak to me of the ride we had taken, and I believed that, knowing that I had been forced, so to speak, he did not hold it against me. But the next day I was quite surprised to hear him reproach me. I wanted to explain myself; he replied that I was the one who had wanted us to take that ride; so I called Madame Ricord to witness. What became of me and what was my surprise and my indignation when that woman, instead of declaring the truth, reinforced with an imperturbable effrontery that it was I, effectively, who had wanted the ride and had taken her along against her will? I was floored; I lacked the words to respond; those who were present could believe that I was guilty to see the assurance of Madame Ricord and my stupefaction. But should my brother have believed this odious lie? He knew me: he knew I was incapable of lying. Why then did he not want to believe me? When I was alone I wept much. That scene had made the most painful impression upon my heart. But I resolved to hide my distress, not to show it to anyone, especially not my brother. He no longer spoke to me of it, and it would have been possible to believe that nothing had happened, if he had not kept a certain coldness in regard to me that caused me to despair. There is the result of Madame Ricord’s lie. As for her, she had neither more cares nor less gaiety because of it; she still had her laughing and frolicking humor: one might truly have dad, to see her air of satisfaction, that she was happy with herself, and that she had done the world’s greatest act.
It will rightly be supposed that after having been so cruelly played by Madame Ricord, I could no longer have for her either esteem or respect; that is, at least, if I had had any for her before the scene I have just described. In effect, how should one esteem a woman who knows so little of the rules of propriety and her duties as a wife to commit the gravest offenses against them? How should I have loved a person who continually compromised my younger brother with her advances, to which he believed it essential to his honor and duty not to respond? In truth, if modesty did not hold back my pen, I would say some things which would not be to Madame Ricord’s advantage. She was young and charming; but her coquetry was at least equivalent to her beauty. She wanted to shine and be adored at any price, and would do anything to get attention.
Ricord loved his wife, and had unlimited confidence in her. Absorbed as he was by numerous occupations, he did not see her offenses, and could never have suspected them. Ricord had every public and private virtue; he could be equaled but not surpassed in patriotism; he was one of the most ardent and intrepid Montagnards. A faithful and trustworthy friend, a tender husband, he deserved a different wife, and never was a couple, in my opinion, less well matched. Probably he had always been unaware of his wife’s actions regarding me; she would set him against me, and, since he saw only by her eyes in these matters, he believed everything she said.
My departure from Nice was approaching, though I did not suspect it. I did not know then, and I have only learned since, that Madame Ricord unceasingly abused me to my brother, inventing a thousand lies in order to make him lose his friendship for me. My brother’s coldness redoubled with each passing day and I knew not what to attribute it to. Doubtless I should have asked Augustin for an explanation concerning this change; but I saw him so busy, so overwhelmed with work, that I could not resolve myself to do so. We were both victims of the cruelest of hoaxes.
Madame Ricord, who perhaps hoped that my brother would be less insensible to her advances in my absence, plotted my removal. She set a trap for me, and right away I fell into it, so little was the ability to resist that woman in my character. My brother having left Nice on a six-day trip, Madame Ricord proposed that we should spend that time in Grasse, with one of her friends. I accepted, without suspecting anything, and we left. We had hardly arrived in Grasse when a letter was brought to Madame Ricord which had been, it was said, addressed to Nice. Madame Ricord told me that this letter was from my brother and that he prayed me to return as promptly as possible to Paris.
Judge of my shock! My brother, without coming to see me, without bidding me farewell, was sending me away like a reprobate. Nothing could have been more incredible, and yet I let myself fall into this crude trap. Listening for the moment only to my indignation, I reserved a place in a private coach departing for Paris, and I left the next morning.
I have since much reflected, sadly, on this precipitated departure. I should have had the letter where my brother supposedly ordered me to leave shown to me; I should have returned to Nice, waited for him, and asked him whether it was true that he was banishing me, so to speak, from his presence. I would have gotten proof of the contrary from him directly; my eyes would have been opened upon the abyss that had been dug before me, and his eyes would have been opened about a woman whom he had believed until then—all her calumnies and all her lies.
But, to my unhappiness, it was not so. I credulously believed what Madame Ricord told me, and still I do not dare think of all the conjectures that Robespierre could have drawn from my brusque departure. She would have told him that I wanted to leave without seeing him, because I did not care for him; what would she not have told him! She would have embittered him against me in every way. It was easy for me, upon his return to Paris, to judge the effect that the venomous words of the Madame Ricord had had on him. He no longer wanted to see me, and the events of the Thermidor took place before I could explain myself to him. Thus, to the grief of having lost my two brothers is added that of having had this misunderstanding with one of them, who took the idea that I had wronged him to the grave. Is it possible for one to be unhappier than I? Madame Ricord congratulated herself for what she did; she could not have known that she was preparing me an entire life filled with tears and regrets!
(I myself have already speculated on whether this really is the (full) story behind Augustin and Charlotte’s fallout in this post).
On October 17, Augustin writes from Nice that Ricord has gone to Lyon and only he remains in the city (Mary Young speculates that Margueite might have stayed in Nice too and it was now, with her husband out of the way, that the love affair between her and Augustin really blossomed out). One day later, Fréron writes from Marseilles, where Ricord’s made a stop, to Desmoulins and tells him that ”Ricord is going to tell you about so many things. […] [he] will give you my adress,” The same day Fréron also wrote to Lucile Desmoulins exclaiming: ”How lucky Ricord is! So he is going to see you again, Lucile, and I, for a century, have been in exile.” […] He is leaving, this fortunate mortal, and I venture to give him this letter for you, the content of which he is unaware about.” Fréron you f:ing creepo. This instead suggests Ricord had been given a leave and was on the road to Paris. Eleven days after Fréron’s letters were penned down, October 29, Ricord presented himself at the parisian Jacobin club where he, after having denounced a spy hiding in said club and provoked a decree to arrest the man in question, complains about the dragged out trial against the Girondins, saying that Brissot should only need to answer the following two questions: Are you Brissot? and Are you the deputy of the National Convention?  If the answer is yes, Ricord argues, he shall be shot, citing as examples similar judgments he has seen in Marseille, ”which have done the greatest good.” His suggestion was however not received by any hearing, with the deputy Renaudin rising to state that these measures may be suitable in Marseilles, but that in Paris, it must still be the law that condemns, and Ricord being met by murmurs when wanting to justify his opinion. He had to content himself with giving news regarding the south, praising Barras, Fréron and the Committee of Public Safety and encouraging the idea of purging Paris of aristocrats, and this time he was met by a warmer response.
Ricord presented himself at the Jacobin club again on November 23 (this is the last time he’s recorded as speaking there) where he again praised Fréron and Barras and asked that Marseille be left to them. Six days later we find him at Toulon together with Augustin, Barras, Fréron and Saliceti. On December 11 they get the order to march on the city from the Committee of Public Safety, and nine days later, they could report that they had entered it.
In his memoirs, Barras writes the following regarding the Ricords in Toulon:
Bonaparte, after the siege of Toulon, was appointed brigadier-general, with orders to join the Army of Italy, under the orders of General Dumerbion; it was then, through the patronage of Aréna, that he became intimate with Robespierre the younger and Ricord and his wife, afterwards his protectors. From the time Bonaparte joined the first Army of Italy, holding very low rank, he desired and systematically sought to get to the top of the ladder by all possible means; fully convinced that women constituted a powerful aid, he assiduously paid court to the wife of Ricord, knowing that she exercised great influence over Robespierre the Younger, her husband's colleague. He pursued Mme Ricord with all kinds of attentions, picking up her gloves, handing her her fan, holding with profound respect her bridle and stirrup when she mounted her horse, accompanying her in her walks hat in hand, and seeming to tremble continually lest some accident should befall her.
Augustin, who had taken a bullet to the knee during the taking of the city, left for Paris just two days afterwards. According to Charlotte’s memoirs, her brother went to lodge with ”his collegue Record” (she probably means Ricord) during his stay in the capital, no longer wanting to see her after their fallout. Barras’ memoirs similarily contains an anecdote about Augustin and Ricord meeting up with a boy whose mother (who Augustin had known) has been guillotined, and giving him clothes and food while on a stay in Paris together. But this sounds unlikely to be true, considering Augustin and Ricord never went on leaves to Paris at the same time.
Ricord stayed in Toulon throughout the rest of 1793 (we have letters confirming this dated December 23 and 28 and January 5). On December 29 he got tasked with going back to Nice by the CPS, where we find him on January 20. Six days later, the CPS wrote to inform him that he had been the subject of several denounciations:
…Have you studied the men around you enough? Right now, it’s the aristocrats that make up your société habituelle in Marseille. You have moved in with one of these suspicious men, named Saint-Mesme. The patriots making up the Supervisory Committee were molested by you. […] The Committee has also been informed that you plan to decide alone who are those who, placed under arrest by the representatives of the People and the Supervisory Committees, must be detained. And here the Committee reminds you that you are powerless in Marseille. Your mission is limited to the army of Italy and the department of Var; everywhere else your authority ceases, it is null.  Finally, you claimed that the law against emigrants was too rigorous, that the Convention would be obliged to revoke it. Isn't this frightening, isn't it putting off auctions? Does this not call for alarm and distrust in the pledge of national wealth? The Committee of Public Safety, fellow citizen, would have liked to spare itself the painful duty of pointing out such errors, so as not to indulge in the memory of the good you have done. It likes to think that this is only a momentary aberration of yours. […]
Ricord nevertheless remained away on missions up until the fall of Robespierre (I’ve however not found any anecdotes/interesting information regarding him during the rest of the period). We know Marguerite was still together with him up until at least April 5, when Augustin wrote to his brother: ”Ricord and his wife embrace you.” But two days after the brothers’ execution, July 30, a CPS decree signed by Collot d’Herbois ordered Ricord to immidiately return to the Convention. Ricord understood he was under suspicion for his ties to Augustin, and on August 5 he authored the following letter (cited in Young’s Augustin: the younger Robespierre , page 174) from Nice:
Monsters that the Republic still has in its bosom have plotted new assassinations. An unbelievable conspiracy has found place in the hearts of traitors… But their authors have received the just punishment that they merited. It is that you should be aware of this that I publish the proclamation of the National Convention to the people of France... This event will only augment your zeal and make you more vigilant in seeking out the guilty. The Constitution needs all your zeal in unmasking and pursuing the enemies of liberty and equality.
And one day later, still in Nice, he also wrote this letter to the CPS, confirming he had received theirs:
Upon reading, citizens and collegues, your letter and the proclamation of the National Convention, I regretted not being at the Convention to vote for the death of the infamous scoundrels who had the criminal audacity to conspire against freedom. The perfidious! as they had deceived the people! I blush to have been the friend of Robespierre the younger. It is true that I thought him honest; but from the moment of his treason he had no more implacable enemy than me. You will learn without surprise that all hearts are entirely for liberty, the National Convention and the government. The army, the popular societies, the administration, all have sworn once again the annihilation of all kinds of tyranny. In accordance with your decree of the 12th, I am leaving in two hours to travel to the heart of the National Convention. Salut et fraternité, Ricord.
On August 6 we find a letter to the CPS sharing suspicions regarding Ricord. According to wikipedia, Ricord was also accused by Cambon on August 24, though I’ve not found the minutes for the session which he does so… Regardless, Ricord was lucky and these denounciations never went anywhere.
In her memoirs, Élisabeth Lebas claims that Ricord and several other men unsuccessfully tried to seduce her sister-in-law Henriette shortly after thermidor:
Our position was so dreadful that my sister-in-law had to return to her family. It sufficed that, young and pretty, and having lost her mentor, she could not solicit my liberty; those curs, like Ricord and others, pursued her, seeking every means of seducing her, even promising her my liberty. Though she was young, she saw well that those monsters were seeking ways to corrupt her and dishonor her family. She preferred to leave, guessing rightly that they would do nothing either for me or for my brother-in-law François Le Bas, adjutant-major.
After this, it’s not until the following year I’ve found any info on Ricord. But in the aftermath of the Insurrection of 1 prairial (May 20 1795) we find a decree ordering the arrest of ”Charbonnier, Escudier, Salicetti and Ricord, for having fomented movements in Marseille and Toulon whose history belongs to the era which followed the days of Prairial.” We have a defence written by Ricord dated July 30 the same year, as well as another from October 14, but he nevertheless remained in prison until November 1795, when he benefited from an amnesty issued at the closing of the National Convention. But just a few months later he came under suspicion again for participation in the conspiracy of equals. I’ve however not been able to find much info on his role in this affair besides the fact that he again got off the hook.
Finally, in 1816 Ricord was exiled to Belgium as a regicide where he died on 21 February 1818, at the age of 58. I don’t know what became of Marguerite. As of now, I’m also unaware whether or not they had any children.

Chapter 5
seems like a good one is about to come . . .
Tumblr media
So, the brothers are BORED. And with that, they did something outrageous in Tamaki’s eyes -
Tumblr media
Photoshop.
It’s interesting how Tamaki says they are “wasting their talents” which means they do have a knack for graphic design canonically I guess aaaand ... Honey seems to believe it lol? Anyways. They have No time for Tamaki bs
Tumblr media
so apparently boy Kaoru is onto the idea of telling everyone that Haruhi is a girl out of boredom ... ? Lol even if she leaves the club over that? Oh well, sounds like a lie to me judging from the previous chapter.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Honey asks the real questions.
Tumblr media
Anyway and finally here we have a proper introduction to the epicurean twins way of thinking. Interesting to me how at this point both wear very urban street style clothing.

and Kyouya is observing from the shadows as always. Anyway if it’s a voodoo doll Nekozawa is promoting .. if you look at the needle and the doll in Hikaru’s hands. Maybe they should just join ? ? ? NEXT
Tumblr media
AS A MIGRAINEUR THIS LOWKEY MAKES ME HATE THE TWINS
Tumblr media
the harbinger of cold reason Kyouya Ootori
Tumblr media
vs the twins who pretend to reason but are sometimes swayed by clearly irrational things. It’s like the same way Kyouya acutally likes spicy food while the twins pretend to in order to prank others but would rather have sweets lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
spoiled brats alwayss
Tumblr media
okay this right now was huge for many reasons.
First reason: WHAt ? Isn’t it the opposite GRAHWHWHWRRR I don’t know if it’s a translation mistake or if the girls really got it wrong and Haruhi did not bother correcting them because. Like. It’s the opposite from the tiny images - the one on the left (dubbed right parting) is Kaoru and the one on the right is Hikaru and then, on the panel below it’s actually the same order. So I guess Hikaru was shocked about being evil, and Kaoru was like *blushes* right?
Tumblr media
ayy this gun get gud ma am
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Soo .. are you telling me Kaoru knew Hikaru was into Haruhi as far as chapter 5 ? This is particularly weird because 1) Kaoru touches her far more from what we see lol, 2) and Kyouya did ask Kaoru if he expected Hikaru to fall in love so maybe not. Anyways,
Tumblr media
This is of particular interest to me because Hikaru calls Haruhi a little fox and really I must know what’s being said in the original, because Kyouya does call her supposedly a tanuki and not a kitsune. Hmm. But of course there isn’t a translation to tanuki ~
Tumblr media
See this is where it gets weird. At this point Kaoru is stated to have linguistic abilities while Hikaru is the maths guy and like .. this is not true from what we saw so far, truly.
Tumblr media
SEVER ALL TIES !! And be fanservicey while we are at it. Not sure if even Kyouya knows what’s going on, guess they were really just bored and it wasn’t some kind of well-planned carefully thought out business plan lmaoo
Tumblr media
ahh yes, The Fight . . . at this point they are just being mischievous, and Hikaru being aggressive first! Love it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s funny how at this point they still have the perfect synchrony involuntarily. Just ... makes me think a lot of what is to come!
Tumblr media
Honey aka Kaoru’s older mentor everyone
Tumblr media
Kyouya being the realist here but didn’t this age pretty well
Tumblr media
okay so Hikaru is canonically 10% harsher which is cute. soo Kyouya likes soft bois
Tumblr media
lol @ HARUHI NOT TRUSTING HIKARU already
Tumblr media
between Kaoru licking Haruhi’s cheek and going “say ahh” I like how Kaoru is just canonically way .. comfortable with touching somehow? Like it’s canon that Hikaru touches Haruhi more but when it comes to people in general Kaoru seems to be it (and also the kisses but let’s not get ahead lol) or maybe both have physical love language things going on (or maybe Kaoru is just flirtier lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOL at the twins blaming Tamaki for their mistakes. Also, Kyouya being a good boy and cleaning ......... (though he doesn’t seem to be very tired which makes me believe he was doing light work lol) and the twins sneaked away from duties.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
is he mad about the profit or is he mad that they are not getting brotherly love antics anymore? We never know
Tumblr media
And now for reminiscing how they were and how they did not want anyone to get close.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s also super funny how they are always bugging Tamaki at this point and he is always in the middle of the twins :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This panel sequence that follows is a bit confusing to me but I guess both were thinking “ACTUALLY ... “ not just Hikaru. Anyways LOL at Kaoru doing black magic and it’s funny how at this point Kyouya isn’t even looking anymore, because he probably knows what is going on already.
Tumblr media
So Haruhi reacts and then at last - -
Tumblr media
The devilish twins reveal what their plan was ~
Tumblr media
And suddenly they are doing fanservice even though they are not hosting idk why man but you know Kyouya is around and he is their #1 fan so like yeah
Tumblr media
It’s just so funny to me that this bitch Kaoru is like “omg ur so right haha lets kiss <3″ and she wasn’t even right lmao

Osaka japan
Tumblr media
Osaka is a large port city and commercial center on the Japanese island of Honshu. It's known for its modern architecture, nightlife and hearty street food. The 16th-century shogunate Osaka Castle, which has undergone several restorations, is its main historical landmark. It's surrounded by a moat and park with plum, peach and cherry-blossom trees. Sumiyoshi-taisha is among Japan’s oldest Shinto shrines.
Sink your teeth into Japan’s culinary capital
One of Japan’s great cities, Osaka is a destination famous for its pulsating energy, love of food and fun-filled nights. And though it’s loaded with attractions, this is a city where sightseeing comes second to experiencing its epicurean delights. Osakans live by the motto kuidaore – to eat until you drop – and so will you!
Join locals indulging in kuidaore along the blazing neon-lit stage of Dotonbori, Osaka’s nightlife and eating district. Come evening it’s alive with an electric atmosphere as revellers arrive to hit the many bars and clubs, and of course, restaurants. You’ll find all the classic dishes from Japan – and indeed the globe – but it’s the local Osakan specialties that are worth loosening your belt for.
In between meals, there’s plenty to see and do. Osaka Castle is the premier attraction, but there are temples, shrines, aquariums, galleries and many museums to explore. And Kyoto – the heart of Japan’s traditional culture – is just a short train ride away.
Tumblr media
Feast on Osaka’s local dishes
Osaka’s reputation as a city for foodies is one that goes back centuries to the Edo Period. Its culinary scene is dominated by Michelin-star restaurants, street food, ramen and sushi trains – a concept first launched in Osaka. But it’s the regional dishes such as fugu (puffer fish), okonomiyaki, takoyaki and kushikatsu that are the highlights for many gourmands.
Tumblr media
Check out Osaka’s nightlife
Second to eating, a night out on the town is very much a part of Osaka’s social fabric. Dotonbori and Amerika-Mura are iconic areas to head once the sun goes down. You’ll find yourself among a garish maze of flashing neon streets filled with lively bars, izakaya (Japanese pubs) and clubs. Whether you’re in the mood for Japanese cocktails, local craft beer, a boozy meal or checking out the local rock ‘n’ roll scene, it’s worth setting aside an evening for a big night out.
Tumblr media
See the sights
Osaka isn’t all just about hedonistic experiences – you’ll find plenty of traditional culture and sights to keep you busy. Osaka Castle is one of the city’s most popular attractions and one of Japan’s most beautiful buildings. It’s worth setting aside a few hours to explore. For traditional culture, take in a bunraku performance before visiting Buddhist temples and shrines, and fascinating museums and galleries. Family-friendly attractions include the huge aquarium and Universal Studios where kids can explore everything from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to Super Nintendo World.
What is the perfect time to go in Osaka?
Osaka has a fairly mild climate and the seasons are quite distinct. Temperatures range from about 6°C in the winter to close to 30°C in the summer. Snow is rare. Late June to late July is the rainy season, with the typhoon season following soon after.
Given that there are many famous cherry-blossom viewing sites in town and in nearby Kyoto, spring (late March to mid-April) is an excellent time to visit, as is late November to early December for the autumn leaves.
Osaka hosts a grand sumo tournament in mid-March, and late July sees the Tenjin Matsuri Festival – with hundreds of elaborately decked-out boats plying the Okawa River. The third weekend in September is the memorable float-pulling ceremony of Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri.

CSA WEEK 8
P i c k l i s t
Blueberries - cabbage - tomatoes - cucumbers - summer squash - patty pan squash -
 wax beans - dill - potatoes - peppers - eggplant - fennel
This week in farming…
The past week has been extremely chill compared to the past few weeks of fury.  While we are still figuring out what comes next and what takes priority, it is a bit of a relief to usher in cooler, drier weather.  This allows the crops to hold their horses and slow down production.  This is especially helpful in cucurbit land (summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, etc) where it is more often than not that we are culling caveman club sized zucchini from the fields, then picking the more epicurean faves.  Thankfully, it is not just our crew coming in for harvest.  Willing Hands- the awesome organization that assists in food security for the Upper Valley has been dropping by weekly with their own crew to glean from the fields.  To glean, is to pick from a field post initial harvest.  Gleaning is an excellent opportunity for farms to share the literal fruits of their labor.  These crops are known as “seconds” on our farm- still great stuff, but not necessarily the most supreme picking.  Typically in July, we host a strawberry glean for you all, our dearly beloved CSA crew.  However, this July was met with the most extreme rain that brought the season to a real hard stop.  Super fun times for all, amiright?
As far as the current veg situation goes, we are delighted to welcome potatoes to the team.  Prior to our big potato harvest that will start in about a month, we hand dig these cuties.  Digging for potatoes is like searching for buried treasure.  Rather than an x marking the spot, you hone in on the potato plant.  Once you pull the plant, you can get an idea of how glorious the potatoes will be underground by the resistance the plant gives.  The Harder to pull, the more potatoes you reap.  There is also a very satisfying plucking sound that occurs when potatoes leave the plant- pop-pop-pop-pop.  Anyhow, once the aboveground plant has separated from their babies,  you dig until every last sphere is found.  After last year’s drought that culminated in a very small potato harvest, it is a real joy to pluck these beauties from the earth, wash them off, and make some dynamite potato salad.
Another veg to geek out about are the wax beans.  However, a big heads up to you all, we did not wash the bagged beans.  Because there is so much rot in the fields from the very damp weather, we opted to keep them dirty to avoid ushering in any unnecessary rot.  They should keep for a hot minute, but absolutely wash before use.  No one likes a gritty bean salad.
That is all from the fields.  Melon is on the horizon friends!
FARMY FOODIE PRO-TIPS:
THINGS TO GRILL THIS WEEK:
EGGPLANT! SUMMER SQUASH! PATTY PAN SQUASH! PEPPERS! FENNEL! Just add salt!  Also shaved parm takes all the above grilled crops to the next level.
This clever wax bean dish is a cross between a salad and a side dish: it's served warm but loaded with the bright, fresh flavors of tomatoes and basil.
By Jody Williams  Updated on March 31, 2014
2 pounds yellow wax beans, trimmed (UNFORTUNATELY, you only have .75lbs of these beans, but i STILL think the recipe is worth downsizing the rest of the  ingredients for…)
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 ounces thickly sliced bacon, cut into lardons (1 cup)
2 tablespoons sherry vinegar
10 ounces halved cherry tomatoes (or chopped regular tomatoes!)
1 small shallot, very finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, very finely chopped
1/3 cup chopped dill
Kosher salt
Freshly ground pepper
Cook the beans in a large pot of salted boiling water until crisp-tender, about 5 minutes. Drain the beans and cool them under cold running water. Drain well and pat dry; transfer the beans to a large bowl.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil. Add the bacon and cook over moderate heat, stirring, until golden, 7 to 8 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the vinegar, tomatoes, shallot, garlic and dill. Scrape the bacon vinaigrette over the beans, season with salt and pepper and toss to evenly coat. Serve warm.
SOUR CREAM SLAW WITH FENNEL
From my second favorite cook book, START SIMPLE by Lukas Volger
1 small cabbage
1 medium fennel bulb, cored and very thinly sliced, fronds reserved
¼ cup sour cream
1 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon or more herbs de provence (thyme!!! Oregano, rosemary, etc)
½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
¼ teaspoon sugar
Pinch red pepper flakes
In a serving bowl combine the cabbage (kale) and fennel.
In a small bowl, stir together the sour cream, olive oil, lemon juice, herbes de provence (thyme etc!), sugar, and red pepper flakes.  Taste and season with salt.  Add most of the dressing to the cabbage (kale) and fennel and taste, adding more if needed (you may have some dressing left over).  Coarsely chop about 3 tablespoons of the fennel fronds and stir them in.  You can eat this slaw immediately, but the flavors will meld a bit after and hour or so at room temperature.
A crisp salad of pole beans, fennel, and parmesan cheese
From my tried and true old standby eating bible, TENDER by Nigel Slater
Wax  beans
Medium fennel bulb
Small, salad leaves (chop up your savoy!) 4 double handfuls…
White bread- 2 thick slices
Oil for frying the bread
For the dressing:
Tarragon vinegar- a tablespoon
Dijon mustard- a teaspoon
An egg yolk
Olive oil- a scant ½ cup
Grated parmesan cheese- 3 tablespoons, plus a block of parm for shaving
Lemon juice- 2 teaspoons
Trim the beans and boil them in lightly salted water or steam them, until tender.  Drain them under cold running water.  Cut the fennel bulb in half and shred finely.  Make the dressing by whisking the vinegar, mustard, and egg yolk together with a little salt and black pepper, then beating in the oil followed by the grated cheese.  It should be thick and creamy.  Squeeze in the lemon juice, stir, then set a side for a few minutes.
Put the “salad” leaves in a large bowl with the cooked beans and the fennel.  Cut the bread into small squares and fry in shallow oil until golden on all sides.  Drain the croutons on paper towels.  Toss the leaves and beans lightly with the dressing.  Pile the salad into two plates and shave pieces of parmesan over with a vegetable peeler.  I usually do at least 8 per salad, depending on my dexterity with the peeler.  Tip the hot croutons over the salad and eat straight away while all is fresh and crunchy.
POTATO SALAD!
I have no real recipe, but for crunch and flavor, add your fennel!!  Also dill :)

Pittsburgh Steelers Vs Cincinnati Bengals Acrisure Stadium November 20 2022 Pittsburgh PA Shirt
Tumblr media
I wrote about this Pittsburgh Steelers Vs Cincinnati Bengals Acrisure Stadium November 20 2022 Pittsburgh PA Shirt . no-fuss Hanes white tee in my WFH outfits post, and I’ll take another opportunity to sing its praises. I love In addition,I will do this fit because it layers really well under sweaters and tucks easily into pants and skirts. And if you’re the kind of person who, like me, can’t keep your whites white forever, the price point here is quite forgiving when you need to restock. Not long ago, you might have found yourself all dressed up with nowhere to go. But that was then, and this is now. July brings lots to do—especially in the culinary space—from Manhattan to Boston to Atlanta. Gitano Island pops up on New York’s Governors Island, and Midtown gets a lot chicer with the arrival of 53, the stunning Asian restaurant situated at a storied address. Beyond restaurants, an exhibition in Atlanta’s Botanical Garden spotlights a novel take on origami, while a show at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology explores the elegant parallels between the archives of Dior and Balenciaga.
