#End Rape Culture

this news about h*kimi made me wonder if we’re also supporting some people because they play for our club who has done things like that idk I hope not
This has been a tough pill to swallow. It already happen to me with Dani Alves. I mean, he and most of the Brazil NT give me the ick because they supported Bolsonaro, that fascist, for $ reasons but I never expected our “good crazy and wholesome” Dani Alves to be a fucking rapist. Seeing video from Barça last season hurts now, videos from our Barça glory days hurts bc he is there. There are girls, men etc that has his jersey and are so hurt. The only person I know is sketchy in the current team is Marcos Alonso but not in a rapey way, he had a mildly drunk car accident in his Chelsea days where one person died, he paid & and did community service for it I think. He is very well liked in the dressing room tho, by the young ones too. But no known harasser or rapey rumors. The problem is this footballers are in a culture of celebrity, “yes” culture and some expect for everything to go as they say. That creates big egos, power trippers and narccisists, which very compatible with rape scenarios. Gross. I’m gonna puke. It’s easy, no means no, and stop means stop even in the middle of sex. Thanks, everyone. I’m sorry you are going through this.

“It’s good for kids to work so they can support their families” and why a 13 year old gotta support their family hmmm? Maybe cuz you don’t pay their parents enough for the labor they produce??? Maybe THAT’S the issue you should be working to solve instead of taking someone’s childhood away from them

Ok heres my real problematic hot take:
Yandere stuff CAN be cool but only if it's handled well and respectfully towards the actual victims of stalking and possessive abuse and isn't just the fantasy of some creepy basement dweller guy who can only make fictional crazy women love him.
#levi speaks#and its non fatal#like im a victim of stalking and possessive abuse#its not sexy and bloody and hot#its fucking terrifying#and usually the end result of a break up from an abusive relationship#i had an ex who loved to talk about locking me in a basement so only she could have me#and poisioning me#the same ex whose beaten the shit out of me#so seeing this person whose mentally scarred me like that isnt sexy#its traumatizing#and i get the obsessed killer stalker crush thing#its an interesting take on psychology if done eloquently and non-ablesitly#cause sometimes these are typicalist as shit towards people woth bpd dpd and ocd#when that isnt the reality of those conditions#also realistically#its gonna be mostly male stalkers with female victims#but heres the reality#its mostly being peddled by cishet grown ass men with crazy teen girl killers#with no actual intent on tackling the issues with possesiveness and stalking thst links into misogyny and rape culture#but when it is tackled correctly and realistic and sensitive to the actual harm in stalking?#ugh its so good#i love psychological horror and slashers#but when you actually artfully create a yandere story and not just slap a bloody smiling face on an anime girl?#they are so good and so insightful and just ugh so good#i dont hsve an example off hand but the well handled yandere stories ive seen are amazing#the shitty ones are a dime a dozen and just bloody for the sake of blood but those actually doing it well?#amazing

can people tell whats theater and whats real
#im watching an 1963 interview with malcom x and the manner of speaking was different then no yelling and splicing off words like a classic#election debate though obviously this was no election broadcasted debate. some theater is useful but i feel like progressively it has been#just theater now. the liberalism the wokeness the canceling cultures the men who say they are allies the women who say they are allies the#queer people who say they are allies. like a lot of it feels like theater. progressively so. liberally so. the ai the obsession with open#access with native american knowledges and indigenous knowledges broadly. the publicized and streamed violence and genocides. the state#mandated body cameras on the bodies of police as they go for the kill or for the maiming. the tiktok nurses and the tiktok isrealis. this#all feels like theater. the protesting with the cops inside the pride with the cops inside the happy lny! with cops inside the#isrealis blocking water and basic needs trucks the mass protests in egypt that had gang rapes at their epicenters the white american who#votes and then shames those who abstain the nonprofits that profit its funders where their criteria for who deserves help grows stricter an#stricter and more hoop like more circus like than anything resembling dignifying. the flood of ai generated art of sterile images that are#literally propaganda. and have been actively used for such ends - against the most vulnerable people here there everywhere.#this feels like theater. progressively. increasingly. liberally.#soy talks shit

So tired of everything being derailed by racists.
Want to talk about jobs? Blame immigrants.
Want to talk about the state of housing? Blame immigrants.
Want to talk about post-secondary education? Blame immigrants.
Want to talk about healthcare? Blame immigrants.
Want to talk about the state of the economy in general? Blame immigrants.
And it's never about the systems in place that lead to immigration or the how companies exploit young workers from elsewhere in the world (by taking advantage of their inexperience, their lack of support network, taking their money, and so on), it's all about how those dastardly non-whites are trying to screw honest Canadians out of everything by taking advantage of us, and they're personally going after you.
You can be talking about something and even be open to talking about the complex issue that is immigration but it immediately gets taken over by THEY TOOK OUR JERBS! assholes.
It's at the point where as soon as immigrants/immigration comes up, I peace out unless I know the person and can expect them to have a point beyond bigotry and fascism.
Because it's never about our systems, decade(s) of neglect, neoliberalism or conservatism, or anything like that, it's about how selfish, rich, and anti-white brown kids are and things would be perfectly fine if not for them.
#seriously i have heard so many people say the reason why housing is so bad#is because immigrants come from cultures where sharing a room is normal#so that's why it costs $2k to rent a room in a house you share with 4 other adults#it can't possibly be because the lack of social housing or that landlords were given a free pass to do that#or that many of our politicians have 'investment properties' including the federal housing minister#or that students (esp female students) end up being taken advantage of with housing#'cause living with a guy who rapes you for $500/month is feasible while $2k/month is beyond your means#and is preferable to dropping out and being homeless#also all it takes is one tiktok video of an immigrant saying they're taking advantage of something#and the racists will run with it and say *all* immigrants are doing that#e.g. that immigrants are taking food out of our mouths because someone said they go to food banks to get cheap/free food#i'm sure some of it online is psyops#but these sentiments have existed for a long time but now people have no problem saying them to your face#emboldened by american propaganda and pp fearmongering and appealing to xenophobia#also it should be noted since i was a kid it's been warned about how the country's economy couldn't be sustained without another baby boom#once boomers and older gen xers retired#immigration literally keeps our economy from utterly collapsing because we don't have enough workers to replace retiring ones#or enough workers to pay pensioners#it is a massive massive complex issue that goes back decades#and sure the federal government is complicit in all of it#but again for decades and that includes the conservatives who supposedly would fix everything if only we voted them in again#i'm far from a fan of trudeau but this started well before him#and you can't even criticize him without it being derailed to be about xenophobia or being assumed to be a fellow bigot#hell i avoid criticizing singh because the moment you do you're assumed to be racist or a fellow racist#canada is a fucking racist and xenophobic country and has always been so#stop assuming we're not or that we're no where near as bad as america or uk tories or anything like that#if you can believe that the british queen wasn't a nice old lady who never did anything wrong and the british monarchy is perfectly benign#you can believe that canada's pr and propaganda is wrong and it's not a good country#and maybe listen to canadians about this instead of what media tells you canada is like and how canadians are

Popular Hades & Persephone "retellings" are, rightly, getting dunked on all over the socials right now and, as a Pagan who has an altar to the Queen, I could not be happier. But also, I feel like a lot of people miss WHY they're bad - aside from just plain bad writing and lazy tropes. Which are, yeah, also REALLY bad.
Pretty much all retellings try to wave away, or excuse, or twist the whole kidnapping bit. And I actually do have sympathy and understanding for why, when speaking from a modern perspective.
But honestly...you gotta get over it. There are other stories to play fix-it with, not this one.
The Abduction is The Thing.
Were I a little more sober I could bring up chapter and verse of the Hymn to Demeter but frankly, if you know even the middle school mythology curriculum version of the story, you SHOULD know the themes. The story of Persephone was one mothers and daughters in the ancient world held dear, because it was a reality: you will, one day, be swept away from your home to go cleave to a man you most likely know nothing about. You will miss your mother, but chances are very good that he will be a good husband, once you get to know him, certainly better than Zeus or Ares, and he will make you a queen of his home.
Leaving home to marry was often scary, and violent (look up the history of the tradition of Bridesmaids, if you don't already know it - they were originally decoys on the marriage road). Centuries later we'd have tales like Beauty & The Beast serving the same function: comfort, hope, you are leaving your safe loving home to figure life out with a (often older, powerful) stranger. Your trauma over this sudden ending of your childhood made manifest in a Beast, or a God of The Underworld.
It's wonderful that we don't NEED stories like this anymore to comfort us (here, at least, in this culture). But if you try to force them into modern vernacular it just will not work, not really, because you're gutting out the whole point just to have a more tidy romantic male hero.
I have read MANY very good ...novelizations? fanfic(? however you would frame them, but they're certainly not "retellings"), etc. that simply take advantage of the blank spaces in the myth, and there are many!
It's not explicit that sexual assault happens - "The Rape of Persephone" as a title was coined in much earlier eras, when the word was just as often used to simply refer to abduction.
"She was starving!" the gods didn't need to eat. So it's easy to read her eating the Pom seeds as a deliberate choice on her part. Like, shit, people, scholars have written whole papers on the symbolism of this moment, between marriage rites and even yeah, Seph choosing both worlds with her husband's knowing consent.
And that, I think, is the real heart of the thing. People want an utterly mundane, spelled-out story here, as opposed to what it really is, has always been, just like any other myth or religious parable: IT'S A METAPHOOOOOOR.
They don't need to be destined, or meet at a goddamned BALL and then CONSPIRE to fake her kidnapping, or shit, I once saw one where Hades got MIND CONTROLLED by Zeus?! Jesus.
Persephone was yoinked into the Underworld against her will.
That's how it went.
I don't mean this in a "stay out of my belief system!" way, shit I'm a white American chick with delusions of witchery. I mean this in a "stop stressing yourself out trying to make things palatable" way:
This is a very real, very precious myth to many people, BECAUSE for at least that one event, Persephone had no autonomy, BECAUSE for thousands of years most women had no autonomy. Erasing that, sanitizing the fact that a girl is ripped out of the spring, from her mother's arms, is erasing the thing that gave comfort to women for centuries. And people can and should still find power and healing in it now!
Fill in the blanks the story leaves in whatever manner seems fit to you, there's plenty of room, but. Come the fuck on.
