"Must you bore me with your inane questions? You know who I am." Puffing her lips, the Lady lounges back in her seat. Of course, it's no use. They are sticklers for process, it seems. "Lady Indira Dhar of the Mughal Empire. I am lover, caretaker, and advisor to the Empress. As is Eesha."

And who do you believe to be your closest allies, either nations or individuals? Do you trust your allies?

"Anyone who isn't us can't be trusted." She means the Sharma's, of course. There are just as many snakes in the Mughal Empire Court as there are outside of it. "I've been impressed with the Germans so far. Only they understand what the Memoriam is made to be. Lady Feyre and Lord Cailean of Scotland are good sorts. A potential ally in Scotland, perhaps."

Ah, yes, I see... how about your enemies, then. Who do you not align yourself with, and why?

"You, Ariyan." Indira purposely looks away from the scribe, haughty glare back at the immovable advisor to her wife. "Because you are filth. Scum of the Earth. A pathetic excuse for a child of the Empire." The scribe clears his throat, forcing a break from another one of their classic spats. Should he be writing this down? "The Ethiopian royals are in a league of their own self-importance and ego. High and mighty and as false as they come."

Interesting. Do you have a personal vendetta against any of the courts, or even individuals, here?

"What do I look like? A storybook villain." Alright, so she's not the main character either. Doesn't everyone love an anti-hero? "My only vendettas are against those who threaten the Empire... Or who are boring and humorless." Really, it should be treason to bore an Empress.

What are your thoughts on the mysterious deaths in so many royal families?

"It's tragic. Who knows who is next? Which is why it is imperative you put an end to this time suck and let me get back to my guests."

How do you feel about the system of monarchy as a whole?

"There is a reason why the Empire shines, and it is because of the monarchy. People need a representative on Earth. That's who we are." Of course, the jewels and gold help.

So, what would be your best theory as to what is going on, then?

"Isn't it obvious?" Indira nods out the door. "One of the mourning countries did it. Who else benefits from the death of an existing monarch, than the next one in line?"

India: Day 2

01/04/2024

This morning we sat around and talked about plans for the days ahead, foods I should eat, and things I should buy for home. Then Eesha and I went to Bandra to walk around by the ocean. We took an open cab which is essentially a mix between and electric bike and a car. This is even more terrifying to ride in because they lane split like bikes but are closer to the size of a small sedan.

At the ocean there were lots of little tide pools. A few people were washing clothes in them. There was also some art along the board walk and lots of trees with pretty flowers. Out in the ocean through the haze you could see boats and oil rigs.

This area also has a large catholic Church and is hillier than other parts of the city. Shah Rukh Khan lives in this part of the city and apparently every morning waves out his window to hundreds of adoring fans. One interesting thing is that the snack stands by the beach take Google pay and it seems everywhere does. The dichotomy between old and new is confusing sometimes. Below is a photo of a good girl.

After we went to Santa Cruz. I have found Bandra and Santa Cruz to be the most beautiful part of Mumbai so far. Unlike other areas, there are lots of large trees that line the roads making the area very green and beautifully shaded. The architecture has lots of stone walls outside buildings and we drove down a road with lots of shops and wedding stores. The dresses in the windows were so beautiful. We drove by Eesha's old secondary school as well in this area which was fun to see. After Eesha went to physical therapy, we walked around the neighborhood. We took a photo outside her (now demolished) school building (the school has multiple buildings).

Then got her favorite after-school snack, vada pav from her favorite food stand. Vada pav is essentially a burger but with a seasoned mashed potato patty. It was so soooo good. Everyone kept telling me I had to try it and now I understand why.

After this we got a Nutella waffle. I was mesmerized again about the scenery and we headed off to the new mall in town where we window shopped and I got a pretty book. Below is a photo of Santa Cruz near Eesha's old school. The stand in the back left is a dosa stand that we didn't have room to try.

That night I met a lot of family friends of Eesha's family. They were all so funny and sweet. They made an amazing dinner of lots of foods I had never had before like mutton biryani. They got a cake because I was visiting and sang my happy birthday but the candle was blown out by the fan. Of note, it is not my birthday haha. Today I finally got tired at a reasonable time (aka before writing this post) so I will now be going to bed in hopes that my jet lag is gone. Goodnight!

It was a quiet day, somewhat of a rare necessity nowadays. The quiet, at least now, was comforting, and Wen Qing found that standing at the side of the ship, looking out onto the water, did wonders for her mind. It was here that she felt that she could breathe, and it was here that she was able to admire the ocean for what it truly was. A thing of beauty and mystery.

She had always loved the ocean, it being third on her list of loves, right after her family and the human body. She had always admired how the light shimmered on the surface of the water, showing an almost perfect image while hiding the mysteries below. She had always wondered about what was below the shining waters, and she loved to imagine when she would, if she would, see them. 

She continued to stand at the side of the boat, laughing slightly when some water splashed onto her hands. She took a deep breath and smiled as the ocean breeze played with her hair, a comfort that never failed to cheer her up. She continued to look out onto the water and wondered what treasures the crew would find today. Hopefully it would be a dolphin. A-Yuan always liked to see the dolphins jump out of the water, chattering happily as they did so. 

Or, maybe it would be some fish, with their bright colors as they swam through the sea, always showing off various tricks as they stuck with their family. 

Wen Qing laughed softly thinking about her own family. It was her, her brother, her uncles and aunts, Granny, A-Yuan and Wei Wuxian. She never thought she would be living in the same place as the former prince of the Yunmeng Kingdom, but it had worked out. She loved her family to death, and seeing it expand, to fit two more princes, two, and Mianmian, caused her heart to expand with love she had never thought possible after that fateful day at the Lanling kingdom. 

She smiled again before looking back at the water, feeling happier and safe. She was safe, and she had her family with her, and they had the many oceans and seas to explore. Life was good.

ok i have a ton to say about the worldbuilding but i'm just gonna start by saying that writing this fic was so fun bc like. it's completely out of focus and by all accounts and purposes keefe and fitz should be the central characters. they're the prince and cinderella, the ones that have to mastermind a fake fairy godmother so they can be together. but instead our mcs are Cinderella's Little Sister and a very short very sarcastic girl and they flirt by talking about the weather

(plus every scene gets exponentially funnier when u realize that keefe and fitz are in the background reenacting Every Romantic Tragedy Ever while marella and biana go to the in-universe equivalent of starbucks)

but besides that creating all the kingdoms was super fun bc i love the idea of a world where magic is inherent in the ground + the kingdom itself and it's sort of the foundation for non-magical life. in my head this is a world that used to be overflowing with magic and fairies (who founded all the kingdoms and crowned the original kings) but is now stepping into some sort of future where people without magic have to take it into their own hands. magic is growth and regrowth, etc, and sometime soon fairies are going to be gone and people are going to figure out how to tap into the world around them by themselves.

i'd really love to write smth set in one of the other kingdoms (preferably choral) where they're more connected to their fairy and do something with the idea of, like, magic being more a feeling on the wind and in the earth than something a person can hold in their hands

anyway this is all super rambly and conceptual and idk if i'll ever actually do anything with it but!! thank u so much for letting me talk i love you dearly <33
