Edgar Berlanga knocks out Padraig McCrory in six rounds
ORLANDO, FL - The Caribe Royale has become one of boxing’s premier venues, with the intimate convention center consistently hosting a bevy of high-quality cards from top to bottom. This night would be no exception.
In front of a largely partisan Puerto Rican crowd with its fair share of Irish supporters that battled furiously back and forth in support of their fighters, Edgar Berlanga (21-0, 17 KOs) overcame a slow start against Ireland’s Padraig McCrory (18-1, 9 KOs) to score a sixth-round knockout.
After numerous rounds where neither man seemed to take the initiative, Berlanga opened up in the sixth round, landing right hands continually. Finally, McCrory went down, and referee Christopher Young stopped the bout.
Berlanga earned a TKO at the 2:44 mark of the sixth round.
Berlanga began his career with 16 straight first-round knockouts. But since being taken the distance against Demond Nicholson in 2021, the Brooklyn native has looked progressively worse at times. Not only has his power been inconsequential in recent fights, but he looked uncomfortable at times.
After five decisions in a row, Berlanga got the demons off his back and a boost of confidence, finally scoring a stoppage. With the victory, Berlanga has put himself in a position to take on the undisputed super middleweight Canelo Alvarez.
Although Berlanga showed he has the support of the Puerto Rican fanbase, it would do him well to keep improving before cashing out against Alvarez.
Andy Cruz cruises through 10 rounds to earn a unanimous decision
In the co-main event, one of boxing’s most hyped prospects, Andy Cruz (3-0,1 KO), continued his ascent upward on the lightweight ladder. The 2020 Olympic gold medalist was a massive -10000 favorite over his opponent and proved the oddsmakers correct, dominating his opponent, Brayan Zamarripa (14-3,5 KOs), in every round. Cruz showed a majority of his weaponry by applying pressure and throwing in combinations. The Cuban landed pin-point pot shots that froze his opponent whenever they landed.
Zamarripa didn’t present much of a challenge for the Olympian, but at least Cruz gained more experience by going the total 10-round distance. Cruz was awarded the unanimous decision victory with scores of 100-90 from all three judges.
The amount of praise that has been heaped upon Cruz is, at times, overboard. However, much like his fellow Olympian Vasiliy Lomachenko a decade ago, the Cuban looks primed and ready for a title opportunity with less than five fights on his resume.
UNDERCARD RESULTS:
Title eliminator for the WBA welterweight title
Shakhram Giyasov (15-0, 9 KOs) TD11 109-99 x3 Pablo Cesar Cano (35-9-1, 25 KOs)
Title eliminator for the WBA Bantamweight title
Antonio Vargas (18-1, 10 KOs) TKO7 Jonathan Rodriguez (17-2-1, 7 KOs)
WBA and WBC Continental Americas Flyweight titles
10 round flyweight contest:
Yankiel Rivera (5-0, 2 KOs) UD10 99-91x3 Andy Dominguez (10-1, 6 KOs)
Eight-round super lightweight contest:
Joseph Fernandez (18-5-3, 6 KOs) UD8, 78-74 x2 and 77-75 Aaron Aponte (8-2-1, 2 KOs)

Anthony's Stupid Daily Blog (707): Thu 22nd Feb 2024
I set off at half two for my MRI scan of my head. It wasn’t easy as I had to get a taxi into the town, a train from the town to Newcastle then another train to North Shields and finally a bus to the hospital. I could have just taken my bike but I didn’t want to risk the fucker breaking down in the Tyne Tunnel and I wasn’t spending fifty quid on a taxi.
Luckily I’ve recently discovered that you can subscribe to your favourite podcasts on Apple and when you do this it automatically downloads the latest episodes so I wasn’t without entertainment for the trip. Todays taxi driver wasn’t ranting about how a website on the dark web that he regularly visits told him that pronouns were a covert operation by the Israeli government to take our guns away which was a bit of a shame but I did have a nice chat with todays driver about our shared love of Gran Canaria. While I was on the train / bus / hospital waiting room I managed to read the remaining half of The Stranger Diaries and it was just as enthralling as I had hoped. I now have only THREE books left in this ridiculous Edgar Award challenge that I started FOUR fucking years ago. I’m hoping that at least one of the three will be a detective / mystery tour de force but to be honest even that won’t match the euphoria I know I’ll feel when I finish reading the final line of the final page of the final book and at long last being able to take out my pen and cross this godforsaken challenge off my bucket list. I got to the hospital an hour early (which I had a feeling I would but I would rather be there an hour early than a minute late) and sat in the waiting room listening to ambient music. It occurred to me that this hospital was where I got the MRI scan telling me I had a herniated disc three years ago but for some reason the waiting room didn’t look the same. It then dawned on me that I was here in February 2021 which is when I would have been a year or so into my Edgar Award challenge which is fucking frightening. I finally got called in and was warned that in rare cases recent tattoos can have a reaction to MRI waves. She said that the reaction can be bleeding but I was picturing the drawings of Richie and Eddie coming to life which would be awesome. Speaking of the Hammersmith Hard Men while I was in the machine I went through the episode of Bottom where they go camping in my head to keep calm and pass the time. I was worried that I would get one of the violent needle sensations in my forehead while I was in the machine but thankfully I didn’t. The lass said that the results should be back with my GP in three to five working days. I’m sure I’ve done all this for nothing but I’ve read that violent needle sensations in the forehead can be symptoms of a brain tumour and I don’t want to have to go through the tedious process of being given tablets and told to increase the dosage over the next year to see if they release the pain only for them finally to sent me for an MRI in two years and discover it’s too late to do anything about it.

The Power Couple | Alex Berenson | Published 2021 | *SPOILERS*
Tumblr media
From #1 New York Times bestselling author and Edgar Award winner Alex Berenson comes a supercharged thriller about marriage and the dangerous secrets spouses keep.
Rebecca and Brian Unsworth appear to have it all. A nice house in the suburbs of Washington DC. Two well-behaved, healthy teenage children. Important government jobs - Rebecca working in counterterrorism for the FBI, Brian serving as a coder for the NSA. Their lives stand to improve even more as Brian, in his off-hours, has just developed and sold a highly profitable app.
However, the Unsworths’ marriage isn’t as perfect as it seems. After two decades together, they’ve drifted apart, talking little and having sex even less. Seeking to revive their strained relationship, they decide for their twentieth anniversary to take their two kids, Kira and Tony, on a European getaway.
They have a blast...until one night in Barcelona when Kira doesn’t come home from a dance club. She’s gone. Abducted. Over the course of a single weekend, the Unsworths will do everything possible to find her - as Kira herself discovers just how far she’ll go to break free of the trap that’s been set for her. And even as Rebecca and Brian come together for Kira, they realize their marraige is more tenuous than they realized.
The Power Couple is both a fast-paced, globe-trotting espionage novel full of surprisings twists and a nuanced look at modern marriage - the challenges of balancing career, parenthood, sex and love.
Rebecca and Brian Unsworth are a well-connected “power couple”. Rebecca works for the FBI in the Russian counterintelligence division, and Brian works for the NSA. Living on the outskirts of D.C., they are planning on heading to Europe to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary with their two children, Kira and Tony.
For Rebecca and Brian, they are just now getting back into the happiness of their marriage. It started off strong, but overtime it peetered off into near-nothing. Rebecca has spent the majority of her children’s lives working endlessly for the FBI, first in Birmingham, Alabama where she assisted in bringing down a political mastermind, then in Houston where she briefly had a non-sexual affair with a Texas Ranger while working on a case involving a serial killer before finally settling down at the FBI headquarters in D.C.
Brian has spent their entire marriage living in her shadow. Following Rebecca everywhere she went, raising their children essentially alone as a “house husband”, and working odd jobs in order to off-shoot his wife’s insane spending, living well above their means. However, neither of them ever took the time to say that their marriage was over, and they continued to push through it.
Nearing the end of their Euro trip, Kira meets a young man named Jacques in Paris. They were scheduled to leave the following morning for their last stop in Spain before heading home. Kira explains this to him after he requests a date with her, but he insists on taking the train to Spain to meet her the following night. She meets him at a bar, and to her dislike, brings along his sister Lilly, and the two girls don’t get along. However, Kira doesn’t know that her life is about to change.
Jacques, Lilly and Kira move on to another bar, where she partakes in a little drug usage. However, this leads to Jacques and Lilly kidnapping her, taking her to a location in a city about an hour or so from Barcelona. When she fails to return home, the FBI agent in Rebecca won’t rest until she finds what had happened to her.
With the help of local authorities, an almost unreliable witness and pure instinct, they realize that Kira has been kidnapped. Due to the nature of her job, Rebecca believes it is because of her, especially as there has been threats recently. While this can’t be proven, Rebecca does whatever mother would in her case: she fights to bring Kira home, and alive.
Kira is kept inside of a closet, with no lights and nothing. They feed her small portions and bring her water, and Kira plans her escape with each visit. Using to her advantage an attraction one of her kidnappers has with her, she ultimately invites him to come into the closet for sex. While using the restroom, she finds a bottle of acetone-based nail polish remover. Along with a lighter she luckily located inside the closet as well, she would be able to harm and severely injure Rodrigo. When she begins playing with him sexually, she waits until his euphoria is at an all-time high before she puts flame to acetone, and throws it into his face, blinding him.
She is able to get away, but not without some setbacks. While trying to navigate in the dark, she trips inside a hole and injures her ankle, and eventually ends up cutting her thigh on a large butcher knife she took with her from the house. Rebecca and Brian were already on their way to the town to locate her, as her kidnappers were asking for a ransom. When the authorities say that a home in an abandoned real estate development had gone up in flames, the coincidence is too strong to ignore.
Rebecca is flighted there by helicopter. When she realizes that Kira likely had gotten out of the house at that point, she goes in search for her, finding her hiding behind the brush.
When they return home, life returns to normal. Kira, in hopes of returning back to her usual self, goes back to Boston where she attends Tufts University, wanting to prove her independence once again. Brian and Rebecca return to their jobs. However, what we have learned since then is that Brian is a spy for Russia, working with a man named Irlov. He had given Brian $2 million for his insights through his job at the NSA, and used the ruse of a phone app that Brian had “created”.
When Rebecca goes to visit Kira at school as a surprise, Kira suggests they go to a newly opened casino. Using her husband’s app, used to help casinos advertise, she realizes that the app hasn’t been updated in quite some time and it all comes together - Brian is the mole that the FBI has been chasing at the NSA, and the reason their daughter had been kidnapped was his fault. Something that he had kept to himself, and something that he could have done to prevent it from happening, or finding her faster than they had.
She works endlessly to prove this is the case, and she does. But Brian realizes that Rebecca is on to him, and they both, in secret, make plans to end their spouses life. Brian suggests they take another trip, as it is nearing their 21st wedding anniversary, and the last trip hadn’t gone well with Kira’s kidnapping. Brian plans to take her out in the waters surrounding St. Barts and throwing her overboard. But Brian doesn’t realize that Rebecca is well prepared.
On the night, Brian rents a boat and takes them out into the open sea, reminiscent of their honeymoon. They share a bottle of champagne, him in hopes that it’ll get her drunk enough not to notice the Xanax he will eventually slip inside the alcohol, and her, with plans to kill him in some way. When he throws her overboard after a sexual moment, she takes a syringe she has sneakily taped and hidden on her leg, filled with enough epinephrine to bring down a horse, and shoots him in the leg with it. This causes Brian’s heart to essentially explode, and where he dies.
I found this book by accident while browsing at the library. It sounded interesting enough, an almost Taken-like essence to it, and anyone who knows me knows I love me some Liam Neeson. While the similarities are there, this book just didn’t hit home for me. I gave it 3/5 stars because it was entertaining in some aspects. I felt truly sorry for Kira through all of this because her dad was a downright idiot. But, there was a lot within the story that was shared that didn’t need to be shared. Like, what led to Brian working for the NSA - everything had already been explained in Rebecca’s POV, but I do understand that they were showing his side versus her side, wanting us to feel sorry for him.
But, as someone who is married to someone in the military, who protects our state and our country, Brian being a Russian spy just pissed me off and I felt no sympathy for him whatsoever. He could have told Rebecca what was going on at any time, but he was only worried about himself and not the well-being of his child. He was the epitome of a terrible father. Good on Rebecca for doing what she had to do to protect her daughter from the truth. She would go to her grave before telling anyone the truth about what happened between the two of them on that boat.
Either way, this one just didn’t do it for me. I’m glad I read it, but I don’t think I would suggest this one as a “must-read”.

#FlashbackFriday - All My Darkest Impulses (House of Crows) by Lisa Unger #Review / #Giveaway - Amazon Prime Library
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Flashback Fridays I will share with you the books I was not able to review when they were first released that have been screaming at me from my To-Be-Read bookshelf. Lisa Unger has been my go-to author to fill the U spot on my Alphabet Soup Author Edition Challenge for the last few years. All My Darkest Impulses (House of Crows) by Lisa Unger Mystery/Suspense/Thriller 1st in Series Amazon Original Stories (May 27, 2021) Print length ‏ : ‎ 63 pages Kindle ASIN ‏ : ‎ B0919SLYHL
Tumblr media
What really happened to the girl who walked into the woods and vanished forever? It’s a never-forgotten mystery that clings like a shadow in a short story about dark memories and inescapable fears. For disgraced professor Matthew Merle, the inheritance of his grandfather’s crumbling mansion is both a burden and an offer of safe haven. His childhood friend Claire, a psychiatrist, desperately needs a haven of her own after one of her patients unleashes his dark side. At turning points in their lives, it’s inevitable that they should return to the past. And to Merle House. It’s been waiting for them. All My Darkest Impulses is part 1 of House of Crows, a four-part serial about friends with a shared history of darkness. They’ve spent their lives running, but they can no longer hide from the past. Each story can be read or listened to in a single haunted sitting. Dollycas's Thoughts I had mistakenly thought that each book in this series would be from a different character's point of view. It actually is a story broken into 4 books. In this first installment, we meet Matthew Merle who has lost his job. He has brought his wife and daughter to the family home that he inherited. He wants to ready it for a quick sale. His wife has tons of ideas for keeping it. His daughter doesn't care, she is just filled with angst. We also meet Matthew's childhood friend Claire. Her work as a psychiatrist has taken its toll. During a session, one of her patients gets out of control and she is rethinking that event and her life. With the story only totaling 63 pages we have just scratched the surface of their lives and what part Merle House will play. The house, a character itself, and the grounds appear to be haunted but how and why is yet to be detailed. The story ends with a cliffhanger to entice the reader to immediately delve into book 2, Fog Descending. Sadly, I didn't have time to do that now but I did download the rest of the books in the series to my Kindle so when I do have time I hope to read all three straight through.

Thomas F. Burgoyne Sr. - December 23, 1940 - January 26, 2023
Tumblr media
Thomas Francis Burgoyne, Sr., 82, of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Tom was born on December 23, 1940, in Lancaster, Massachusetts, the oldest child of Francis and Alice (Langen) Burgoyne. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved wife of 48 years, Kathy. Tom graduated from Lancaster High School in 1958 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History from St. Anselm College in 1963. Upon graduation, he began work as a clerk with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. In 1965 he graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and began work as a Special Agent, under then-Director J. Edgar Hoover. Tom’s career as an FBI agent started in Miami, Florida where he was assigned to the Fugitive Squad. He was then transferred to the Pittsburgh FBI Field Office. In the late 1960s another transfer brought Tom to Wheeling, where he met and married his beloved wife Kathy. They settled in the neighborhood of Dimmeydale, and once in Wheeling, Tom poured his heart and soul into the community. During his time at the Wheeling FBI Office, Tom headed the Federal Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force. He dedicated numerous hours to the investigation of Wheeling’s organized crime groups and took pride in the numerous convictions which resulted.Tom retired from the FBI in 1996 after 33 years with the Bureau and became the Deputy Director of the Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization, a Division of the National Institute of Justice, where he worked for 4 years. From 1997 to 1999 he taught Criminal Justice at Wheeling Jesuit University as an Adjunct Professor. In 2000, he was elected the Sheriff of Ohio County, West Virginia and was re-elected to the position again in 2004, where he served until 2008. In 2008 he obtained his private investigation license, forming TBI Investigations, an endeavor he continued until his death. Tom made service to others a priority, and he dedicated much of his life to volunteer work. He coached youth baseball in Miami, later helped create and coach the Dimmeydale Rockets little league baseball team, coached YMCA flag football, and was a girls’ basketball coach at St. Michael Parish School. Throughout his life he served on the boards of several Wheeling organizations, including Wheeling Hospital, Crittendon Services; the Homeless Coalition, and Youth Services System, Inc. While Sheriff, he established a program called S.W.E.A.T., Support Wheeling’s Effort at Teens, and seeing his “S.W.E.A.T. kids” succeed in life brought him much joy. Tom’s three children all graduated from Wheeling Central Catholic High School and Tom’s love for Central and its students was immeasurable. He joined Central’s Boosters club in 1985 and remained active with the club for the remainder of his life. He took pride in working as Central’s liaison to the Drug Free Clubs of America and then helped establish Clubs at schools across the Ohio Valley. He also established an endowment fund at Central in Kathy’s name, which provides tuition assistance to qualifying students. On Friday nights in the fall, you could usually find Tom on the sidelines of a Wheeling Central football game rooting on the Maroon Knights, no matter where in the state the game was being played. In 2015, Tom and Kathy received the prestigious Bishop’s Cross by the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston for their dedication and contribution to Catholic education. In 2021, Youth Services System of Wheeling honored Tom with its Good Samaritan Award in honor of his mentorship and encouragement to others, which he often even extended to individuals he had previously arrested. Tom’s love of the Boston Red Sox took root when he was a boy growing up in Massachusetts in the 40's and 50’s. He was thrilled when, as part of the Good Samaritan Award, the Red Sox honored him during the seventh inning stretch of the Sox’s September 16, 2021 game against the New York Yankees as their “Hometown Hero.” He was on top of the world, with his children and grandchildren in attendance at the game. Tom loved joining his family on beach vacations to Cape Cod, where he often ended the day with a plate of little neck clams or oysters on the half shell, a lobster, and a cold beer. He also looked forward to his annual winter trips to Florida, where he had built an entire community of friends. Most of all, he loved spending time watching his grandchildren participate in their respective sports and activities. Of all his accomplishments, Tom was most proud of the family that he and Kathy built together. Surviving him are his daughter Erin K. Reisenweber (John) of Martinsburg, WV; his son Tom, Jr. of South Jordan, UT; his daughter Elizabeth A. Amico (Joseph) of Peabody, MA; and seven cherished grandchildren of whom he was so proud: Jack, Lilly, and Benjamin Reisenweber; Kenadee and Kannon Burgoyne; and Katie and Joey Amico. He also leaves his sister, Kathleen Durvarney (Steve) and brother Bill, both of Massachusetts; as well as beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on Kathy’s side of the family and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were special to him. He also leaves his special friend, Bea Glenn, with whom he enjoyed much laughter and good times over the past couple of years. Family and friends will be received from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm on Monday, January 30, 2023, and again from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Altmeyer’s Funeral Homes – Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1225 National Road, Wheeling, WV. Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wheeling Central Catholic High School Tuition Assistance Program, 77 14th Street, Wheeling, WV 26003. ABC NEWS ANNOUNCES THE SECOND SEASON OF ITS AWARD-WINNING TRUE-CRIME PODCAST SERIES ‘TRUTH AND LIES’
‘Truth and Lies: The Informant’ Documents How an Ordinary Man Turned Hero Risked His Life to Stop a Devastating Terror Attack
The First Two Episodes of the Five-Part Series Premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023
Tumblr media
*ABC News
ABC News announced today the return of its award-winning, hit true-crime podcast series “Truth and Lies: The Informant.” The second season tells the remarkable story of Dan Day, an ordinary man who risked his life to prevent a terror attack that officials believe could have surpassed the death and destruction of the Oklahoma City Bombing. The five-part narrative series hosted by author Dick Lehr (“White Hot Hate: A True Story of Domestic Terrorism in America’s Heartland”) explores how a father and husband in Garden City, Kansas, gained the trust and confidence of the FBI and found the courage to infiltrate a right-wing militia group planning to carry out mass murder. The first two episodes will be released on WEDNESDAY, JAN. 11, with new episodes published weekly.
“Truth and Lies: The Informant” features Day’s secret audio recordings as he goes undercover for the FBI. The tapes offer critical insight into members of the militia group and the terror plot they hatched and methodically planned over several months. The series spotlights interviews with figures central to the story, including Day, the FBI agents and federal prosecutor who led the investigation, as well as members of the Muslim community that the hate group targeted. George Stephanopoulos Productions’ Hulu documentary “The Informant: Fear and Faith in the Heartland” serves as the source material for these firsthand accounts and interviews.
The podcast also features new interviews delving into the persistent and pervasive scourge of Islamophobia in this country and how the politically charged rhetoric of 2016 added fuel to the fire.
This series marks the second installment of ABC Audio’s “Truth and Lies” franchise, following the hit first season “Truth and Lies: Jeffrey Epstein,” which won the 2021 Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Storytelling. It chronicled the rise and fall of the disgraced financier and the stories of the women who fought to bring him to justice.
“Truth and Lies: The Informant” is available for free on major listening platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Google Podcasts, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Stitcher, TuneIn, Audacy and the ABC News app.
About Dick Lehr
Lehr is a professor of journalism at Boston University and the author of eight award-winning nonfiction and fiction books, including “White Hot Hate: A True Story of Domestic Terrorism in America’s Heartland” and “The Birth of a Movement: How Birth of a Nation Ignited the Battle for Civil Rights,” which was the basis for a PBS/Independent Lens documentary. He also co-authored the Edgar Award-winning New York Times bestseller “Black Mass: Whitey Bulger, the FBI and a Devil’s Deal,” which was adapted into a worldwide feature film by Warner Bros.  Lehr previously wrote for the Boston Globe, where he was a member of its Spotlight Team and a Pulitzer Prize finalist for investigative reporting.

Happy 2023 for when it comes. Cat tax paid! Edgar is seeing out his first year on the planet and we're closing out our first months without Smudge, so hold your beloved fur friends close cause we sure will be tonight.
2022 was a strange year, certainly - from being accepted into a London acting school, graduation, being picked up by an agency and led along the first steps into my career by those I love! Working with two namely celebrities (on a film that now has 2 film festival awards!) must be mentioned too.
And I can't forget to mention those shows I discovered brand new love for (I mean Bridgerton and Chicago Fire, Wednesday, as well as Timmy Time xxx) and I'm bringing The Vampire Diaries into 2023. That will never go anywhere! I don't remember the rest, but they're somewhere in some brain cell I don't currently have in my possession. I could have discovered Timmy in 2021 but I honestly do not remember. The years are MERGING.
To the many muses I picked up along the way. To those who have interacted with me, the blog, Stefan, and those who continue to support me. To next year's hijinks. To the Ton, and to you, dear reader, have a fantastic 2023. From me and The Doctor, your local Doctor. Good evening. 💕

Anthony’s Stupid Daily Blog (244): Tue 15th Nov 2022
Today wasn't the best day. For started I made two schoolboy errors very close together after months of having no blemishes on my record. Then I finally decided to go to HR and ask them about the headphone business which didn't end well. I told the HR lass that I understood why we weren't allowed headphones on the floor because we need to be able to hear the fire alarm but surely it should be okay to wear one headphone because then we'd have the other ear free to hear it. Well that's what I tried to say but while I was in the middle of talking this rude cunt barked in by saying "Absolutely not it's policy that no headphones had to be brought onto the floor". I reiterated that I was talking about one headphone not more than one headphones but almost the second I started speaking this ignorant cunt started shaking her head and repeating what she'd just told me like a bootlicking prick. I wanted to say to ask her "If you had one headphone in and the fire alarm went off would you be able to hear it, yes or no?" but it would have been pointless because if I did because she would have realized that if she responded no she'd be talking shit and if she responded yes she'd be agreeing that the company policy is bullshit so she'd likely just repeat "It's bullshit". I tried to not let my anger at this cunt get to me and when I got home I even stuck to my workout plans for the evening and did 1000 stomach crunches in one sitting which is up there with running a half marathon in under two hours as one of my greatest fitness achievements. I want to get into as immaculate physical shape as possible for when I go to WrestleMania next year in case one of the wrestlers in a tag team match needs a partner and selects someone from the crowd like Braun Strowman did a couple of years ago. I finally finished A Dance At The Slaughterhouse by Lawrence Block. I was really into this when I started it about a month and a half ago and got really invested when it introduced a plot where a private detective finds a snuff movie snuck into a VHS case rented from a video store and is traumatised by it to the point that he can't focus on a case he's working on. This was interesting but I got lost halfway through. Normally I have an alarm on my phone that goes off at the top of every hour to remind me to read 10 pages of my book but that's not really doable in my current job. I immediately ordered the next book in my Edgar Award winners challenge “Bootleggers Daughter” by Margaret Maron and hopefully I'll get through it quicker this time. Man I've really let myself down on the reading front this year. In 2021 I read about 20 books and this year I've just about scraped through five which is embarrassing. I need to start making up for the lack of time spent reading during the day, perhaps by reading a few pages early in the morning and then just before I go to bed.

Reading Prize Winning Books--Part 3
Reading Prize Winning Books–Part 3
I’ll start by saying the next three books I read for my prize winning challenge were all on the heavy side. All well-written and I learned a great deal about different places and times, but not exactly uplifting. The first, Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line by Deepa Anappara won the Edgar Award for Best Novel in 2021. The Edgar Awards are given by the Mystery Writers of America and named for their…

Never too old... Book Review
Tumblr media
A gripping, action-packed cosy crime adventure to keep you hooked. Older women often feel invisible, but sometimes that's their secret weapon. Yes. This just shows what women can do when trained right. And yes, the Fini painting exists of a Shepherdess and Sphinxes.  In Venice. At the Peggy Guggenheim collection. Interesting art work. Just an FYI to the author, Lyme disease is in England, and the diseases carried by rat droppings - especially Weils,  is just as nasty. Always wear gloves when gardening! I enjoyed this book immensely and willl forever be wary of  mud wraps, I used to like them. I think this is an important novel to demonstrate that women of a certain age should not be written off too soon, we may be capable of doing more than you expect! Well plotted, good style and grammar and such an unusual topic. Deanna Raybourn New York Times and USA Today bestselling novelist Deanna Raybourn is a 6th-generation native Texan. She graduated with a double major in English and history from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Married to her college sweetheart and the mother of one, Raybourn makes her home in Virginia. Her novels have been nominated for numerous awards including the Edgar, two RT Reviewers’ Choice awards, the Agatha, two Dilys Winns, and a Last Laugh. She launched a new Victorian mystery series with the 2015 release of A CURIOUS BEGINNING, featuring intrepid butterfly-hunter and amateur sleuth, Veronica Speedwell. Veronica’s second adventure is A PERILOUS UNDERTAKING (January 2017), and book three, A TREACHEROUS CURSE, was published in 2018 and nominated for the Edgar Award. A DANGEROUS COLLABORATION was released in 2019, and A MURDEROUS RELATION appeared in 2020 and AN UNEXPECTED PERIL published in March 2021. The latest Veronica Speedwell adventure, AN IMPOSSIBLE IMPOSTOR, will be published in February, 2022. Deanna’s first contemporary novel featuring four female assassins who must band together to take out their nemesis as they prepare for retirement, KILLERS OF A CERTAIN AGE, will be published in September of 2022.
