Enjoy What is Good in Life
12 I realize that there’s nothing better for them to do than to be cheerful and enjoy what is good in their lives. 13 It is a gift from God to be able to eat and drink and experience the good that comes from every kind of hard work. — Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 | God's Word Translation (GWT) The Holy Bible, GOD’S WORD® Translation Copyright 1995 by God’s Word to the Nations. Saturday June 18th 2022 🔯 Read Ecclesiastes 12 🔯 The span of a life 🔯 Ecclesiastes 12: 3 - In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows are darkened, 4 - And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low; 5 - Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: 6 - Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. 7 - Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return to God who gave it. 8 - Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity. The Morning Devotional: WCF 32.1-2
The Morning Devotional for October 12, 2023 The Westminster Confession of Faith 32.1-2 I. The bodies of men, after death, return to dust, and see corruption;a but their souls (which neither die nor sleep), having an immortal subsistence,b immediately return to God who gave them. The souls of the righteous, being then made perfect in holiness, are received into the highest heavens, where they…

This Memorial Day may bring somber memories of loved ones who’ve passed away. Your heart may be broken all over again as the thoughts of servicemen and women who have served this country wholeheartedly and paid the ultimate sacrifice with their life weigh heavy on your mind. You may be burdened with grief and tears, finding it hard to face the reality of a tombstone at the gravesite bearing the…

Ecclesiastes 3:11 "He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot fathom what God has done from the beginning to the end."
As a mother, I have often done the wrong things and spoken the wrong words. We all regret our actions. We might have hurt our loved ones. We all fall short and yet as we commit ourselves and our family into the sovereign hands of Jesus, He brings beauty out of those ashes. God illuminates those dark places and ugliness in our lives and makes everything beautiful in its time. You see, in creation, God brought beauty out of chaos. Jesus is a specialist in transforming our lives in the same way. He gives hope, peace, joy, healing, redemption, reconciliation, and comfort to His children even in our utter brokenness. He has put eternity in our hearts. We know that our hope in this great God who died to give us life, and life more abundantly and His grace is enough for us. (2 Corinthians 12:9).

It stands to reason, in the deep and cutthroat waters of commercial fishing, that the bigger the fish one is hoping to catch, the less one should worry about the size of the holes in their net.
The logic here is simple. For every juvenile herring that falls prey to the beach-dwelling child’s trusted SpashNCatch, there exist a thousand more who somersault through the sturdier—but wider—nylon nets cast by boats in international waters, while the bigger fish flop helplessly, awaiting their fates.
Churches, in a way, work just the same. That is, as far as demons are concerned.
It is a grave mistake to assume that, just because a cathedral is big, this makes it safer from the forces of darkness. Quite the contrary, in fact. A high ranking Minister in the infernal hierarchies might trod freely in a smaller church, but Dukes of Hell aren't in the habit of dropping by Earth to take a stroll in the pastures. The modest country chapel is, however, perfectly suited to keep out any of the lower ranking demons. Where the grandiose cathedrals of the past might pose a threat to a Lord or Duke of Hell, the ethereal biospacial interference is so much greater, that the negative effects on lower demons are close to zero. A low class demon walking into the Vatican will do so with no ill side effects other than a not altogether unpleasant buzzing in their head.
A great percentage of the catholic church's tourist trade is, in fact, comprised of young demons for this very reason. Although they are as interested in the history of the catholic arts as their young european counterparts who visit Amsterdam coffee shops are interested in cocoa power blends.
The Catholic Church is surprisingly both aware and fine with this. After all, some of the paraphernalia sold in christian tourist shop could be appealing only to a highly intoxicated mind. And business is business.
It’s been theorized, by Mediaeval architects both on, and under the Earth, that given a very specific and calculated planimetry, it would be possible to achieve a holy structure so perfect, it would be capable of keeping out all creatures of the night alike, from the smallest of infernal gerbils, to Satan himself. No records of such a structure have ever been found in human history, however.
[FN: But exist it did. St. Adelaide Chapel of The Merciful was first constructed in Logan, Utah in the year 1926 by a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints separationist who didn't agree with the turn the old faith had taken, and had decided to take things into his hands. Its incredible planimetry, resembling the shape of a rubber duck, made it, by all accounts, the most successful banisher of evil that has ever been built. The reason no records remain of this peculiar construction is directly tied to this outlandish achievement. Not only could good ol' St. Adelaide drive away all manner of the devil's agents, but, through a combination of outlandish decor and the reverend's own rancid personality, it managed to drive away any human, animal or ecclesiastical creature attending as well. Because of this, its founder declared the project a sound failure after only two weeks, and eventually repurposed the building into a casino.]
The church Crowley was standing in was small enough to give him the worst headache of his life.
He glanced at his watch, which was still shining after picking it up from its latest “technical upgrade”. The 17th capital in his repertoire rolled on idly at its hour of 16:57 [FN: Crowley had commissioned it with the 24h military system. It was one of his better achievements overseas: if there was one thing that the American populace hated, it was having to count past the number 12 on a daily basis.], although as far as Greenwich time was concerned, the hour was a lot closer to 3. Ante meridian.
Crowley rubbed at his temples with a hiss of pain and glared, half cross-eyed, at the church song pamphlets lying on the benches. The lyrics were always more or less the same, but the melodies… It was the sort of useless thing that could cause blood feuds between neighbouring parishes.
Normally, Crowley would skim them like the funny pages. Tonight he just wanted to set them on fire.
He breathed a hiss between his teeth. One more week. One more bloody week of the most mind numbingly boring work he'd had to do in decades, and then he'd be done. Oh, there was an art in it. He was, after all, ridiculously proud of it. But he'd asked himself more than once over the course of the project, if maybe he'd got in over his head this time. But after taking his suggestion on electronic communication, Hell had grown all the more vigilant of his movements on Earth, and his plans for the M25 would get them off of his tail for the better part of the century.
Crowley didn't dislike computers, as a rule. On the contrary, he rather fancied them in his own way. And that way rarely extended beyond aesthetics. He'd never taken classes on cyber security, but his hacking strategy of zipping through the company's intranet connection and scaring the daylights out of whoever happened to sit at the other end had worked well enough—up until the day he had risked getting stuck in an ill placed floppy disk, at which point he'd decided a change of approach was in order.
That was Monday. On Sunday, without any other alternative, he was going to spend the night tracking through the mud to manually move the remaining marker pegs. His last step—and chance—to bring his plan to fruition.
It would mark the end of years of work.
Twenty four hours before that moment, and he was loitering on consecrated ground with a massive migraine.
The Arrangement, of course.
Aziraphale had tipped him off on the situation at one of their dinners. Angelic gossip reported that a lost soul would attempt to steal a moderately irrelevant reliquary held at a similarly unremarkable town for a few days. The object itself held no particular importance compared to its fellows, but it was sparkling. And where there is a sparkle, there is a thief, ready to hang their soul on it. Pressing matters to resolve in Soho, terribly busy, so won't you just drop by, give them the old Thou Shalt Not Steal angelic apparition, and set them back on the straight and narrow for me, there's a good chap.
Crowley stopped. The moon outside offered little to no light through the stained glass windows, but demons didn't need light to see. There was the distinct sound of rubber soles squeaking on the church floor. Then a figure hurried towards him from the end of the aisle.
Well, thought Crowley, here goes nothing. He cleared his throat, drew himself up, and raised his arms above his head.
“Halt!” he cried, summoning a glowing, hopefully angelic-seeming light behind him. “Be not afraid! I knoweth what marred purpose brings thee to the House of-”
“Crowley,” the figure hissed, waving its hands urgently. As they came closer, Crowley could see how well-manicured they were.
Crowley lowered his arms, “Aziraphale?”
“Yes! Yes, it's me. Be quiet now, won't you.”
The angel gripped his arm and tried to catch his breath for a moment, lost it, then caught it again. It sounded like he'd run all the way there [FN: Or for the sake of comparison, like a brachycephalic dog after trying to outspeed a car].
He gave Crowley an airy smile and cleared his throat.
“Hello.”
“Hi,” said Crowley, a growing sense of unease making its way to his stomach, “What are you doing here? Didn't you have business in Soho?”
“No. I mean, yes I did. But I have received some additional, illuminating information, and our priority at the moment is getting out of this church as soon as possible.
“Why? What's going on?”
Aziraphale licked his lip, “I may” he said, nervously wringing his hands, “I may have slightly misunderstood the scale of the crime about to take place.”
“...Slightly how?”
The angel gave him a panicking little smile.
“...Slightly a lot. Now, if you please—”
“Wait, do you mean—”
There was a rattling at the far door. A jingle of metallic instruments not unlike keys in their purpose, although far less discriminatory in which locks they would open. Then, finally, a click.
A dark figure crept into the church. Another one followed it, shortly, then another one, shorter. A fourth figure stuck its head through the doors and, after briefly conversing with the taller of the group, quietly crept back outside.
The doors clicked shut. They weren't alone anymore.

Midshipman Juba Fortune
Here's a nice little thing I don't want to keep from you.
From 1613 onwards, so-called "clandestine fleet marriages" increasingly took place in the somewhat unusual surroundings of Fleet Prison in London. English marriage law was only precisely fixed by an Act of 1753 ("Lord Hardwicke's Marriage Act"). In the previous legal uncertainty regarding the formation of valid marriages ("common-law marriages" had been legal until then), a brisk marriage business developed in Fleet Prison and the surrounding area in the 17th and early 18th centuries. This was because prisons could claim to be outside ecclesiastical jurisdiction and so made it possible to marry in secret. But what exactly was meant by a secret marriage? A secret marriage could come about because the groom was not yet 21 years old (i.e. of age), the bride was pregnant or her parents did not consent, or the groom was not in a position to pay the marriage tax. The advantage of such marriages was that they could be entered into without the consent of the parents, without witnesses or even a certificate of residence. However, children were also allowed to marry, as the minimum age was 14 for the groom and 12 for the bride. Due to these circumstances, these marriages were very favourable and were considered legal, even if clandestine.
During the 1740s, some 6,000 of the 47,000 annual English marriages were performed in the Fleet area alone.
But let us now turn to such a secret marriage. On board HMS Invincible in 1757 (one year after she sank) was a young man named Juba Fortune, Mishipman, born in the East Indies in 1713.
Tumblr media
HMS Invincible’s muster roll, by Brent Piniuta (x)
Also on this muster roll is Edward Fortune, Captains Servant born 3 September 1738 in Marylebone, London. Interestingly, Juba married Elizabeth Howell of London in a secret wedding ceremony in Fleet Prison on 27 July 1738, and Edward appears to be their son and revealed the reason for their quickly secret marriage.
Tumblr media
What happened to them after the sinking of HMS Invincible is not known, so they are not listed. It is possible that they were no longer at sea after that.
If this is indeed a case of father and son, then this would also be an interesting matter for other pattern roles and could by all means point to other secret marriages and family connections. Which in turn should be kept in mind for further research in the field of muster rolls.

Top 5 Bible verses :)
oh boy....... um, I don't have a lot memorized :'( but here goes...! I'll try to think of ones that have been important to me. I'll look them up to make sure I get them right.
Hebrews 12: 1-2. Dad had us memorize it once and it still comforts me sometimes. Cloud of witnesses....
Revelation 7:12. What the angels will say. I have this one memorized solidly and it's been a mantra for me in the worst times.
Galatians 3:28: Neither male nor female in Christ. My one lone verse of defense for a long time. there is a lot of crying out to God in agony over gender roles in my past :')
Ecclesiastes 2:24-25: Finding joy in eating and drinking and labor; this kind of joy is from God. Please note that I do NOT take this verse apart from its context; the entire book of Ecclesiastes is important to me. Affirming the joy of labor and eating and drinking is particularly meaningful in the context of Ecclesiastes, and a concept that is very important to me.
ummmmm 5th verse 5th verse 5th verse
OH. ISAIAH 55:1-3. I MEMORIZED IT ONCE AND IT STILL DELIGHTS ME.
Actual verses below the cut, because I, miserable queen worm of not having Bible verses memorized, do not expect anyone else to have these verses memorized <3
Hebrews 12: 1-2: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (2) looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."
Revelation 7:12: “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”
Galatians 3:28: " There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Ecclesiastes 2:24-25: "There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God, (25) for apart from him who can eat or who can have enjoyment?"
Isaiah 55:1-3:
“Come, everyone who thirsts,     come to the waters; and he who has no money,     come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk     without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,     and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good,     and delight yourselves in rich food. 3 Incline your ear, and come to me;     hear, that your soul may live; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant,     my steadfast, sure love for David."

Today we venerate Ancestor Bishop C.H. Mason on his 157th birthday 🎉
Tumblr media
Bishop C.H. Mason founded the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), THE largest Black American pentecostal church in the U.S. In doing so, he preserved and cultivated the religious culturesof our Afrikan ancestors while fighting for ourreligious freedom of expression and integration in the church house.
Brother Mason born to former slaves in Shelby County, TN. Due to his family's impoverished status, young Mason worked as a sharecropper and did not receive a formal education. Yet he still learned how to read and write. As a child, Mason was greatly influenced by the religion of his parents and other former slaves. He admired their prayer rituals, spontaneous singing, & shouting. At age 12, he embraced the Afro-Baptist faith and was later baptized in his older brother’s church.
In 1895, Brother Mason met Charles Price Jones, a popular Baptist preacher from Mississippi. Mason and Jones started preaching the doctrine of holiness and sanctification together in local Baptist churches, which led to their expulsion from the Baptist & Methodist churches. They, and others, established the Church of God and Church of Christ. Their movement consisted of both Black and White folk were grossly dissatisfied with mainstream denominations. From COGIC’s inception, Brother Mason ordained and allowed whites to join his denomination. He dreamed of an integrated church and believed that all races were entitled to equal rights and authority therein. Their principal belief was that being sanctified was an internal experience that resulted in external changes within individuals & their communities. They taught their followers to seek higher spiritual development and encouraged them to rekindle the dynamism of "slave religion".
In 1897, Brother Mason established St. Paul COGIC in an old cotton gin located in Lexington, Mississippi. He then started using the name “Church of God in Christ”, because, "God told him that if he used that name it would cause people to follow him". By 1904, Brother Mason established pastoring 4 churches: St. Paul in Lexington, Saints Home and Dyson Street in Memphis, and a COGIC church in Conway, AR.
In 1907, he attended an interracial service in Los Angeles, CA. After which, he declared that he'd experienced a spiritual metamorphosis and that he now believed in speaking in tongues. This is what spurred Jones and others to excommunicate him from their Holiness association. This ultimately led to Brother Mason and Jones’s 12yr partnership ending over theological differences, rights to church properties, ecclesiastical power, and the COGIC name itself. After 3 years of legal battles, in 1911, Mason’s legal victories catapulted him into historical prominence and placed COGIC in the Mid-South’s religious pantheon.
Brother Mason was also an outspoken conscientious objector. He was arrested in 1918 and probed by the FBI for teaching pacifism and encouraging Brothas to refuse being drafted into WW I and II.
By the early 20th century, the Black Christian middle class frowned upon any & everything associated with Mother Africa. They believed shouting, dancing, & especially speaking in tongues, were shameful & hindered Black progress. Defiantly, Brother bMason encouraged his followers to embrace their Afrikan heritage and gave them space to express themselves in church. He allowed the working classes to dance shout, testify, speak in tongues, string musical instruments, & sing gospel. His preservation of the Afrikan heritage, freedom of religious expression, & leadership spearheaded COGIC’s astronomical growth.
In the 1920s, COGIC had 30K members &, as a result of the Great Migration, 68.7% percent worshiped in urban cities. By the 1930s, COGIC was an urban phenomenon. During the Great Depression, Brother Mason’s churches fed and clothed poor Whites and Black Peoples across Memphis
Today, it has an estimated 6.5 million members and 12,000 congregations. COGIC is the largest African American denomination in the United States, with eight million members worldwide.
We pour libations & give him💐 today as we celebrate him for his passion & commitment to the preservation & cultivation of our Central/West Afrikan cosmologies, cultures, & belief systems via our religious of expression.
‼️Note: offering suggestions are just that & strictly for veneration purposes only. Never attempt to conjure up any spirit or entity without proper divination/Mediumship counsel.‼️
Offering suggestions: COGIC bible/prayer offerings, water libations, gospel songs of praise/dance

What should have our attention?
Tumblr media
Ecclesiastes 7:13
Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what he has made crooked?
John 5:19
So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.”
We should pay attention to what God is doing and the way he is working in our lives and in the world around us.
Hebrews 2:3-4
So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.
Luke 8:18
So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.
1 Corinthians 2:2
For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.
We should pay attention to the message Jesus has for us. What Jesus says is reinforced by who he is—God’s Son. If Jesus was not God’s Son, he would be incapable of raising us from the dead. He would have no power to save us and take us to heaven. Think of the most important person on earth. If that person wanted to talk with you, would you listen? Would you give him or her your full attention? How much more important is the Son of God!
Psalm 119:78
I will concentrate on your commandments.
2 Peter 1:19
Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.
God’s Word deserves our attention. Through his Word, God speaks to us and brings us life that last forever.
Proverbs 16:20
Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful.
Proverbs 19:27
If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will turn your back on knowledge.
Proverbs 22:17
Listen to the words of the wise; apply your heart to my instruction.
Proverbs 5:13
Oh, why didn’t I listen to my teachers? Why didn’t I pay attention to my instructors?
Proverbs 5:1
My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel.
It’s essential to pay attention to the instruction we receive from God’s Word and from wise counselors or teachers. If we don’t, we may be turning our backs on God himself.
Matthew 7:15
Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.
Matthew 16:11-12
Why can’t you understand that I’m not talking about bread? So again I say, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.’” Then at last they understood that he wasn’t speaking about the yeast in bread, but about the deceptive teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
We must be alert to the deception of false prophets and false teachers, those who twist God’s Word to make it say whatever they want. Pay attention to their wiles, but not their words. If a person is not speaking for God, we should not accept that person’s teaching as from God.
Mark 13:32-33
However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!
Luke 21:31, 34-36
In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that the Kingdom of God is near . . . Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware, like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth. Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.
1 Thessalonians 5:4-6
But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.
Be prepared for the day when Jesus promised he would return again by paying attention to the way you live. Live as if he is coming back today.
Ephesians 6:18
Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
Colossians 4:2
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Matthew 26:41
Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!
Your prayer life deserves your focused attention. That’s how you best connect to God himself.
1 Corinthians 16:13
Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.
1 Timothy 4:16
Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.
1 Timothy 4:8
Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.
The growth and strengthening of our spiritual lives deserves our attention. If it pays to exercise our bodies so we keep them healthy, how much more it pays to build our souls so they are healthy.
